Cat Crash! Man Trips Over His Pet Feline And Ends Up In Hospital After Sustaining 'Car Crash Injuries'

Sejal Jakhwal

It’s a cat-astrophe! A UK man had the absolute worst luck after he tripped over his pet cat and suffered “car crash injuries”. The man, identified as Chris Rowley, suffered a broken neck, fractured spine, smashed ribs, blood in his lungs, and other 'car crash-like' injuries after he tripped over his feline pet.

Man Trips Over His Cat, Sustains 'Car Crash-like Injuries'

Man Trips Over His Cat, Ends Up In Hospital

The freaky accident took place back in October 2022. The unfortunate incident went down when the Leicestershire-based professional musician was at home with his hairless Egyptian sphinx kitten, Eric Morecambe, all alone.

Rowley told Mirror , “I can’t remember much, just falling fast — it was quick and it was over within seconds, then I was at the bottom.” The accident occurred when the inside-out kitty out of nowhere turned to Rowley and latched onto his leg while he was trying to get down the staircase.

Rowley came tumbling down the whole 14 steps. He lay still at the bottom of the staircase after the fatal fall as he was unable to move after sustaining severe injuries, “It took a bit of a chunk out my leg then I lost my footing,” explained Rowley.

The Musician Was Unaware Of His Own Injuries While He Lay Unmmoving On The Foot Of The Stairs

Man Trips Over His Cat, Ends Up In Hospital

While Rowley stayed on the foot of the staircase, he was still unaware of the injuries he had suffered. When the paramedics arrived they clarified that Rowley had a “fractured skull, a broken bone in the neck, two fractures in the spine, nine broken ribs, and each rib has multiple fractures, and then I had a bit of blood in the lungs.”

Amid all this, the cat was perfectly fine, without even a single one of its non-existent hair harmed. To make matters worse, Rowley’s wife Jackie was working nights as a children’s care worker and was unable to come to his aid in time which meant Rowley had to lay in the pool of his own blood for over 14 hours.

Rowley remembered, “My phone was dead — I couldn’t get up, I physically couldn’t get up. It’s the hardest sensation — it’s almost like claustrophobia, you can’t get out, you can’t physically get anywhere or do anything.”

Jackie arrived in the morning which was when Rowley could actually get the help he needed. The wife told the outlet, “I normally get home at about 8:30 a.m., but that day, I got held back and I didn’t get back ’til about 10, and I opened the door and heard him screaming and saw the blood.”

Within minutes the paramedics arrived after Jackie had made a panicked call after witnessing the horrific scene.

Tripping over pets can have life-changing consequences, falls caused by pets can cause serious injuries, especially to the elderly..

Posted October 19, 2018

Used with permission of Diana Rayment.

Yesterday, president-elect Joe Biden broke his foot playing with his dog Major. He is in good company.

Take, for example, canine behaviorist Diana Rayment of Melbourne, Australia. One afternoon in May 2016, she was taking Bolt, her Rottweiler, for a walk. Suddenly, Bolt spotted a group of kangaroos and took off after them full tilt. Unfortunately, his leash was tangled around Diana’s legs. As she fell, Diana’s body was twisted around by the leash. She wrote to me in an email, "this effectively separated the bones of my foot from the bones of my leg.” Luckily, she was soon discovered by a couple of neighborhood kids and rushed to a hospital. The x-rays revealed she had suffered “fully displaced comminuted spiral fractures of both the tibia and fibula” – her lower leg bones. Diana underwent three surgeries over the next year. She now has a permanent limp.

The Perils of Falls Caused By Dogs and Cats

Injuries like Diana’s are surprisingly common. In the United States, nearly 90,000 people a year are taken to emergency rooms due to falls caused by dogs and cats. Given the frequency and severity of these injuries, you would think there would be a lot of research on pet-related falls. But this is not the case. While hundreds of research papers have been published in the medical literature on dog bites, I could locate only three short articles on injuries caused by tripping over pets.

I was surprised by the lack of research on this problem, so I posted a one-sentence statement on Facebook . It said simply, “Looking for stories of people injured by tripping over pets.” I expected to get a handful of responses. I was wrong. Over the next couple of days, I received 47 Facebook messages describing falls and other accidents caused by dogs and cats. Here’s a sample of the responses I received.

Emily Patterson Kane, a psychologist who studies human-animal interactions, wrote about her mom, Jacky. While washing her two border collies, she slipped, fell backward, and hit her head on the floor. Jacky was knocked unconscious for several hours, and she also suffered a crushed wrist. For the next year, she experienced neurological symptoms including memory loss and hearing problems. Fortunately, she has now fully recovered.

Nell Thompson's enthusiastic Staffordshire terrier ran into her leg a month ago. She wrote that the velocity of the impact resulted in “my ankle going one way, my knee going the other, and a cracked molar to boot.” She spent a couple of weeks in the hospital, and she will likely be wearing a leg brace for at least a month.

Lauren Novak described one of the more unusual incidents. She wrote, “My mother tripped over our dog while carrying a plate and fork. She fell and the fork went THROUGH HER FINGER!” Her mom was taken to the emergency room for stitches which was followed by several weeks of physical therapy . According to Lauren, her mother had a long road to recovery, and she has never regained full feeling in her finger.

Megan Alexander's wrist was crushed when she fell while walking her three dogs. Two years and three surgeries later, she is still having problems with her injured wrist and is facing the prospect of another trip to the operating room.

Nik Taylor is a foremost scholar in the area of human-animal relationships. Three years ago, Nik was playing with her dogs on the beach when Bailey, a ridgeback cross, crashed into her, fracturing her ankle. The surgeons needed six pins to put her ankle back together. Nik's surgery was followed by eight weeks in a cast and six months of physical therapy. Nik was out of work for six months

Francis Dauster is a professional dog trainer who tripped while walking her own dog. In addition to breaking her leg, she also wound up with a dental infection which required three root canals. She wrote, “Now I am VERY careful walking…I go up and down stairs like a 90-year-old waiting to break a hip.”

Chris Wellman’s grandmother tripped over her dog. According to Chris, “Her recovery did not go as planned. She is now wheelchair-bound and lives in a nursing home.”

The Types of Falls Caused by Pets

The patterns of the injuries reported by my Facebook respondents are instructive.

  • Types of Accidents: Most of the accidents resulted from tripping over pets (24 cases) or being pulled over by dogs on leashes (10 cases). Five of the injuries were caused by dogs who crashed into their owners.
  • Species: When it comes to causing accidents, dogs are more dangerous than cats. Of the 47 injuries, 39 involved dogs compared to 8 caused by cats.
  • Types of Injuries: The injuries ranged from bloody noses to broken pelvises. Twenty-one accidents involved broken bones, mostly leg, ankle, and foot fractures. There were also a few broken pelvises, hips and wrists. Twelve of the incidents resulted in concussions, contusions, or dental problems (broken teeth, infections, and root canals). Eighteen cases fell into the “other” category. Among these were sprains, lacerations, ruptured disks, and torn rotator cuffs.

can see from this graph, nearly half of the injuries were in a severe category.

Pet-Related Falls Are Especially Dangerous For the Elderly

The stories of my Facebook respondents reveal an interesting picture of the suffering caused by accidents with pets. It was, however, a small sample, and I did not have information about the demographics of the respondents. A 2010 study by Judy Stevens and her colleagues at the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control, however, did reveal the types of people most likely to be injured in falls caused by dog and cats. Their research was based on admission to a nationally representative sample of 66 hospital emergency rooms between 2001 and 2006. Stevens found that among 7,826 pet-caused emergency room visits, women were twice as likely as men to be injured in pet-related accidents. And, as with my Facebook respondents, the researchers found that dogs were much more likely to be the cause injuries than were cats.

Graph by Hal Herzog.

But the most striking pattern in injuries discovered by the researchers was related to age. As witnessed by headlines like The Healing Power of Pets for Seniors the pet products industry relentlessly touts pet ownership as a key to healthy aging. But the media rarely mentions the consequences of injuries to elderly people caused by dogs and cats. As you can see from this graph, older people are particularly likely to suffer from pet-inflicted accidents. Indeed, the CDC researchers found that people over 75 were three times more likely to injured by falling over pets than individuals under 35. The late Oscar-winning Hollywood screenwriter Frank Pierson is an example of what can happen when older adults trip over their pets. Pierson wrote the screenplays for some of my favorite films including Cool Hand Luke and Dog Day Afternoon . When he was in his 80s, he was taking his dog, a standard poodle, for a walk in Malibu Canyon. The dog suddenly took off after a rabbit, causing Frank to fall and break his neck. He was in a neck brace for a year. A screenwriter friend of mine who knew Pierson well told me that after the accident, “Frank was never the same.”

Frances Dauster, the dog trainer who broke her leg, nicely summarized the possible consequences of tripping over pets. She wrote, “The sticker warning is that even if you have walked thousands of dogs, it only takes ONE to knock you off your pins and change your life for a long time.”

The bottom line is that claims about the benefits of living with pets should also acknowledge the potential costs. (See Three Reasons Pets Do Not Lower Health Care Costs .)

My 'Car Crash' Injuries From A Fall Caused By My Cat

In a bizarre twist of fate, a simple act of tripping over a pet cat resulted in injuries so severe that they're likened to those from a car crash. Chris Rowley, a 59-year-old UK resident and professional musician, experienced a life-threatening ordeal that began in his own home with his own pet.

In an extraordinary turn of events, Chris Rowley's life was flipped upside down by his own cat in what could only be described as a freak accident. One evening, while descending the stairs, his playful Egyptian sphinx kitten, Eric Morecambe, unexpectedly pounced, causing Chris to lose his balance and plummet down 14 steps.

The fall left him with a litany of severe injuries, including a broken neck, a fractured spine, and ribs shattered in multiple places, alongside internal complications like blood in his lungs.

Rowley’s injuries included a fractured skull, a broken bone in the neck, nine broken ribs and blood in the lungs.

The severity of the situation was compounded by the fact that Chris was home alone, with his wife, Jackie, working overnight. Unable to move and without a means to call for help, he was stranded in agony for 14 hours until Jackie's return.

The sight that greeted her was one of horror: Chris, immobile and in a pool of his own blood, at the bottom of their staircase

Emergency services were swiftly called, and Chris was rushed to a trauma unit, where he spent the next two weeks grappling with the reality of his condition. The road to recovery was outlined as a long and arduous one, with an estimated six to twelve months before any semblance of normalcy could return to his life.

Beyond the physical injuries, the incident took a toll on Chris's livelihood as a musician, unable to tour and thus facing significant financial strain. A GoFundMe was set up to alleviate some of this pressure.

Despite the gravity of his ordeal, Chris harbors no resentment towards Eric, his feline companion. Reflecting on the incident, he views it as an unfortunate accident, a stark reminder of the unpredictability of life.

This story serves not only as a cautionary tale about the unforeseen dangers in our everyday surroundings but also as a testament to the strength and resilience required to overcome them.

A cat dad is going viral for taking his 3 pets on dreamy trips around the world

  • Cat dad Dan Nguyen has gone viral sharing his travels with his three cats on Instagram and TikTok.
  • His wife Olivia is behind the camera, capturing their adventures across America and Europe.
  • Sponge Cake, Mocha, and Donut began as indoor cats but were "incrementally" trained to travel.

New York City-based lawyer Dan Nguyen has nearly half a million people following his journey as he travels the world with his cats.

man trips over cat

Dan Nguyen and his wife Olivia Nguyen run a popular Instagram account @spongecake_thescottishfold, which has over 314,000 followers, as well as the TikTok page @spongecake_cats , which has 199,000 followers as of Friday.

Both document their three cats as they explore the world — Venice, Paris, Milan, and more — from the comfort of Dan's travel backpack.

Olivia started the social-media accounts in November 2021, as the family embarked on their first international trip to Paris. The second video she posted in November showed Dan hugging Sponge Cake with a view of the Eiffel Tower in the background. The video received over 192,200 views and 16,900 likes.

Speaking to Insider, Dan said he and Olivia got Sponge Cake and Mocha, two Scottish Fold cats, and Donut, a British Shorthair, in the summer of 2020. With gradual training, the indoor cats — who Dan calls his "pandemic babies" — have grown accustomed to the outside world, according to their owners.

Sponge Cake, Mocha, and Donut have distinct personalities, but they all love exploring, Dan says.

man trips over cat

Dan said Sponge Cake is "a very adventurous guy who likes to explore" and is "very attached" to him and Olivia, whereas Mocha is "a very sweet boy who is always calm" and enjoys walks on Fifth Avenue. Last but not least there is Donut, the last cat to join the family. Dan told Insider that Donut was hesitant to go outside at first but is now the biggest fan of the outdoors.

Olivia started social-media accounts for their cat trio just as Dan started training them for travel by taking them to local destinations like Central Park. Over time, their trips became more adventurous and their online following grew.

According to Dan, who wrote "Adventure Cats: How to Train Your Cat for Outdoor Adventures," a book published in July outlining his process of training indoor cats to go outside, it's best to teach them "incrementally" with a lot of treats, gentle petting, and encouragement.

To those hoping to emulate Dan and Olivia's success, their advice is to get your cat to trust you and feel safe with you.

Dan said he and Olivia simply don't want to travel without their cats, even if it requires more organization.

man trips over cat

Their first out-of-state adventure was a trip through Orlando, San Francisco, and Sacramento in 2021, Dan said. Dan's reason for bringing the cats was simple: "We wanted them to be with us."

The trip gave them the confidence to go abroad for the first time that November to Paris, which Dan said the cats particularly enjoyed .

Since then, they've gone on to explore Venice and Milan, and Dan said they are aiming to visit Switzerland in the fall.

But taking Sponge Cake, Mocha, and Donut abroad is no walk in the park as most countries have different rules about traveling with cats, he said.

Dan said getting certifications from their vet for certain airlines was helpful, and much faster than the lengthy process of getting certified by the US Food and Drug Administration.

This meant he and Olivia could simply check in with the vet to make sure their pets are safe to fly and have the correct vaccinations prior to traveling. If you plan on traveling with your pet, you can search for your destination on the United States Department of Agriculture's website to find the most up-to-date requirements.

While some airlines require passengers to put their animals in the hold, Dan and Olivia's cats are typically small enough to go in the cabin.

man trips over cat

Dan and Olivia prefer not to put their cats in the hold when flying, instead opting to take them into the cabin with them. For pets that weigh under 10 kg, or around 22 pounds, Dan says you can take them in carriers that qualify as hand luggage and fit them under the seat in front of you. He added that the cats sleep in their carriers whenever they are tired during long flights.

As Sponge Cake, Mocha, and Donut outnumber their parents, sometimes Dan and Olivia need to book an extra ticket, but not all airlines allow them to do this. "At times, when I wanted to buy a third ticket and an empty passenger seat, it's not allowed," Dan told Insider, noting that they only allowed one pet per human passenger and wouldn't allow them to buy a ticket for an empty seat.

The day before a flight, the couple also sets aside one full check-in suitcase for the cats. "In it is disposable litter boxes and a little bit of litter, wet and dry food, and then all their toys, and scratching posts," Dan said, adding that he and Olivia always try to re-create their home environment at the destination.

The globe-trotting cats don't just attract attention online as people who encounter them on the street are equally drawn to them.

man trips over cat

"We get a lot of laughs, a lot of smiles, and a lot of curiosity. We get a lot of people coming up to us and wanting to say hello to them, which is always fun," Dan said, noting that people often ask how he got the cats to be so comfortable outside in busy spaces.

Back home in New York City, Dan said the cats often enjoy spending time in Central Park or Times Square, or outdoor dining with their parents. He added that he and Olivia are wary of not overwhelming their pets with attention from passersby but cat lovers will still come up to them and take photos.

The cats are known for their chic outfits including cozy sweaters and Olivia's handmade colorful neckties.

man trips over cat

Olivia makes the cats' custom bow ties and also purchases knitted pastel sweaters for them to wear.

"All the bow ties and the ribbons that you see are custom-made by my wife," Dan said, noting that Olivia dresses them up for "fun and photos."

He added that Olivia's designs are fragile and need special treatment when they travel. "She actually does not put the bow ties and stuff into the suitcase because they're too valuable to her and they're so delicate, so she actually carries them on hand in a box," Dan said, laughing.

Dan said he and Olivia have learned a fair few things from the adventures they've shared with their cats.

man trips over cat

A few things Dan said he has learned about traveling with cats include just how long it takes for them to pass security checks, which can be extra difficult if they aren't comfortable with the process. He also said it's important to research pet-friendly hotels in your destination and to do extra planning to create a pet-inclusive itinerary.

While the Nguyens have never lost track of their cats, Dan said it can be a challenge when they climb trees. One of his best tips for those bringing their cats to urban spaces is to not let them climb higher than you can reach, he said.

"Sometimes, one of them goes too high," Dan said. "Then we have to gently wait them out. I put my backpack with the top down and I hold it up to them and eventually, they'll jump into the backpack."

After boating in Lake Como and prancing outside Paris' Louvre Museum, it's safe to say no limit to how far these cats will go.

Tips to Avoid Trip and Fall Accidents with Your Cat

Print

Trip and fall accidents involving pets happens more commonly than most people would believe. Our pets love to be with us, and sometimes that means they're right underfoot when we start to move. We don't realize they're there, and we can trip and be on the ground in an instant.

Not only can trip and fall accidents happen to a cat's owners, but it can also occur with visitors to the home, who may not be used to having cats around.

While it's even more common for dogs to be involved with trips and falls than cats, it's still important to be aware of it with your cat and do what you can to avoid it.

Make It a Point to Watch for Your Cat

If your cat tends to be underfoot a lot, make it a habit to look around before you move. This can take a bit of practice, but once you make it a point to do it consistently for a few days, it should become a habit.

Adjust Your Routines

Perhaps there are certain situations into which your kitty tends to inject herself. For instance, many cats hang around nearby when their owner is working in the kitchen because they're hoping to get a taste of something that falls to the floor.

If someone in the home is particularly vulnerable to trip and fall accidents, such as a disabled or older person, keep that in mind when considering the best type of pet to get. A hyper kitten, a small dog that darts around a lot, or a very large dog that can't get out of the way quickly might not be good choices.

If you can identify times when your kitty is most likely to be under your feet and cause you to trip, you can adjust your routines to avoid it. Use baby gates, for example, to keep your cat out of the kitchen while you're cooking.

You can also provide a spot for your cat to sit and watch you from safely. So, if your cat likes to watch you cook, put a cat perch in the kitchen and give her treats and praise when she uses it.

Use a Bell to Alert You

If your cat uses stealth mode to get under your feet a lot, try putting a bell on her collar. That way, you'll always hear when she comes around, and that will help you remember to look for her before you move. Just make sure to use a breakaway collar that will come off if your cat gets into a small space and gets it caught on something.

Make Sure Your Cat Gets Enough Attention

If your kitty is underfoot a lot, it could be that she wants more attention. Make sure you spend at least 20 minutes a day playing interactively with your cat. Use wand toys to imitate prey, and make sure your kitty is getting proper exercise and attention.

You can also use puzzle toys to help your cat stay engaged and not feel bored, which may help if a cat is trying to get attention by always being under your feet as you work in the home or walk around.

Man sentenced to over two years in jail for killing cat in Turkey

An Istanbul court has sentenced a man to two-and-a-half years in prison for deliberately killing a cat, state news agency Anadolu reported on Wednesday.

The court separately issued a travel ban on the man. The verdict is not final.

CCTV footage presented during the trial shows the man chasing and kicking a stray cat named Eros inside an elevator for several minutes until it lays motionless. The incident on January 1 sparked a national outcry.

Several activists and politicians followed the hearing on Wednesday. The defendant said he was suffering from psychological issues, according to Anadolu.

Videos circulating on X, formerly Twitter, showed people inside the courthouse chanting, calling the perpetrator a murderer. The hashtag "Justice for Eros" was trending on the platform.

The punishment is the highest ever imposed under the Animal Protection Act, Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunc said on X.

The Turkish metropolis Istanbul is known for its stray cats.

Violence against animals often makes headlines in Turkey. Animal rights activists criticize legal loopholes and lack of punishment on violence against animals.

The perpetrator had already been sentenced to one year and three months in jail. Shortly afterwards, the court reduced his sentence to three months for good behaviour. Lawyers had appealed against that decision.

Traveling with a cat can be rewarding, but it requires thorough planning. Whether you’re getting ready to drive a short distance and hang out with family or fly somewhere for a relaxing vacation, there are a few factors to consider when traveling with your cat.

Make sure to start the planning process early, particularly if you’re traveling internationally or are going to stay in a hotel during any part of your journey. Below, you’ll find 14 tips and tricks to make your journey with your cat successful.

  • The 14 Tips to Travel with a Cat
  • 1. Invest in a Good Carrier

Cats should always be restrained when riding in cars, and airports require them to stay in their carriers at all times (except during the security screening process). Airlines have several rules and regulations regarding traveling with pets, including guidelines regarding the size of carriers.

Make sure the carrier you use meets the airline’s regulations and requirements. If you’re driving, the sky’s the limit when it comes to the size of your cat’s mobile palace. Carriers should be sturdy, well-ventilated, secure, and easy to clean. Plastic carriers are usually the best options.

  • 2. Give Your Cat Time to Get Used to Their Carrier

Because cats spend so much time in their carriers when traveling, they must feel comfortable in them. Consider leaving your cat’s carrier out so they can get used to it before your trip.

Letting your cat have dinner in their carrier a few times may encourage them to develop positive associations with their traveling home.

  • 3. Invest in a Good Harness and Leash

If you visit a rest stop during a road trip, your cat should be harnessed and leashed when they’re away from their carrier to ensure they can’t run off and get lost if they become scared.

Make sure the harness you choose fits properly, and give your cat time to get used to wearing it so they’re ready to do so when you hit the road.

Are you looking for the perfect cat harness? We suggest Hepper's Cat Harness & Leash Set , which includes a nicely designed, machine-washable harness made from soft, sturdy velvet and mesh.

  • 4. Practice Everything

No matter how you’re traveling, your cat must be comfortable entering and exiting the carrier. If you’re flying, you’ll need to take them out of their carrier during the security screening process in the airport.

You can practice taking your cat out of the carrier when you’re around other people to make them more comfortable during the security check. If you plan on driving, consider taking your cat for a few practice rides to get them used to spending time in the car. Make sure to reward them for their cooperation!

  • 5. Ask Your Veterinarian for Advice

Some easily stressed cats may benefit from medication to help them stay mellow while traveling. However, sedation isn’t suitable for all cats, and most airlines won’t transport pets who have been tranquilized or sedated.

  • 6. Have Cleaning Supplies on Hand

Pack a bag with cleaning supplies and plan to have it close at hand while you’re underway in case your cat has an accident and you need to do a bit of on-the-fly cleaning. It’s best to pack paper towels or cleaning wipes, gloves, and baggies for disposal.

It's hard to beat the convenience of pet-safe wipes after a big adventure, between baths, or when cleaning sensitive areas. Our favorite option is Hepper's Wash Wipes, premium wipes designed to safely and gently remove grime from cats and dogs of all ages and sizes. These hypoallergenic wipes are made in the USA and feature moisturizing ingredients to soothe your pet's skin.

  • 7. Pack Toys and Blankets

Take a few of your cat’s favorite toys and a well-loved blanket that smells like home to keep them comfortable while away from their territory. Putting a favorite blanket in your cat’s carrier may make being on the road less stressful.

A stuffed toy might look a little different than a traditional cat toy but many felines find them quite enticing. The Hepper Plush Whale serves a dual purpose, featuring a faux fur exterior that mimics prey and a soft interior for cuddling during long cat naps when playtime is over. The best part about it is it's an affordable option for ages, sizes, and conditions. Learn more about why your cat needs a plush here!

  • 8. Consider Portable Litter Boxes

If you’re traveling by car , pack a litter box with some of your cat’s regular litter. Plastic poop bags and a scoop are also essential. If you’re staying at a hotel, check their pet policies thoroughly.

Most hotels that accept cats don’t provide litter boxes and litter. Collapsible litter boxes are ideal for shorter trips and can be folded down and packed.

  • 9. Pack Food, Water, Treats, and Medication

If you’re traveling by car, bring enough of your cat’s regular food to keep them happy while you’re away from home. It’s also helpful (and usually mandatory) to pack food and water for your cat while flying, but some cats may be too nervous to eat until you land.

If your cat takes medication, pack enough to last them for your entire trip, and consider putting it in your carry-on luggage to ensure you have access to it even if your checked luggage takes a detour.

  • 10. Consider Pheromones

Commercial synthetic feline pheromone products may help some cats stay calm while underway by reducing stress and creating a sense of safety and well-being. They’re available in sprays and wipes, so your cat can enjoy the benefits of calming pheromones while you’re on the road.

  • 11. Check Your Cat’s Microchip Registration

Ensure that the registry where your cat’s microchip is registered has the right contact information. Losing your cat when you’re out of town is a nightmare, but an up-to-date microchip can significantly improve the chances of their return.

  • 12. Collect Your Cat’s Medical Information

It’s vital to collect your cat’s medical information before you plan to leave and make sure you have a way to access it while you’re on the road in case they require veterinary care while you’re away from home.

Ensure you have all the documentation and certificates your cat needs to travel, including their vaccination status. Remember that the requirements vary based on where you’re headed and how you plan to travel.

  • 13. Double Check Your Reservations

If you plan on staying in a hotel at your destination, contact the property ahead of time to ensure pets are permitted and get information about the rules and requirements that may apply. Don’t forget to inquire about the availability of litter boxes and food and water bowls.

  • 14. Invest in Physical ID Tags

It’s best to attach an ID tag with your name and contact information to your cat’s collar. It will make it easy for people to reach out to you if your cat gets loose and makes a run for it.

Microchips are helpful , but lost cats need to be taken to shelters or veterinarians with scanners for their chips to be read. ID tags make the reunification process far more efficient; if your cat runs off, anyone who finds them can simply give you a call.

Traveling with cats can be stress-free with a bit of planning and preparation. Make sure to get started before you hit the road with your cat , particularly if you’re thinking about flying or staying in a hotel. Also, don’t forget to invest in an appropriate carrier and give your cat lots of time to get used to it.

Armed tennessee homeowner turns tables on would-be burglar trying to climb through window.

A Tennessee homeowner shot an armed man trying to climb through his kitchen window over the weekend, sending him to the hospital with what cops called a “non-critical” gunshot wound.

Alleged would-be burglar Anton Cosby, 32, was tried to break into a Shreeve Lane home in Nashville’s Trinity Hills neighborhood at about 6 a.m. Saturday, according to a statement from the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department.

But the racket he made — which included banging on the front door and the windows — woke the homeowner and his family.

A homeowner shot an armed man attempting to climb through his kitchen window on Shreeve Lane in Nashville.

“The homeowner retrieved his firearm and gave Cosby repeated commands to leave or else he’d fire his weapon,” the statement said. “Cosby then broke the kitchen window and started to climb through when the homeowner shot him once in the arm.”

The wounded intruder dropped a revolver near the kitchen sink and took off running, cops said.

Police found him nearby — but when they tried to help him, Cosby began fighting with them.

Eventually, authorities brought him to Skyline Medical Center, where he was treated for the gunshot wound.

The local district attorney’s office said the homeowner isn’t likely to face charges because he acted in self-defense.

Cosby, however, was hit with a litany of charges including aggravated burglary, felony vandalism and two gun charges, police said.

Crosby ran off after getting shot in the arm and was eventually arrested after fighting cops.

The shooting frightened neighbors, who told WSMV 4 that nothing like that has ever happened in the area.

“I probably wouldn’t have been able to sleep last night,” Linda Thomas, a 15-year neighborhood resident, told the station.

She’s considered adding more security measures, which for her already include cameras and an alarm.

“I feel so secure,” she said. “I really feel people would just not want to walk way up this hill and try to bother me.

“I’m leery that, you know, we have to have guns just to have peace in our neighborhood or our homes,” she continued. “That’s the last thing you really want to have to deal with.”
