The Breakers

The Breakers is the grandest of Newport's summer "cottages" and a symbol of the Vanderbilt family's social and financial pre-eminence in the Gilded Age.

Marble House

William Vanderbilt built Marble House as a 39th birthday present for his wife, Alva. It was a social and architectural landmark that set the pace for Newport's subsequent transformation from a quiet summer colony of wooden houses to the legendary resort of opulent Gilded Age mansions.

The Elms was modeled after an 18th-century French chateau but featured the latest technology of the Gilded Age. It houses an outstanding collection of paintings, statuary and tapestries, and its landscape features formal gardens, terraces, pavilions and fountains.

Rosecliff was built for Nevada silver heiress Theresa Fair Oelrichs, who used it to host many fabulous Gilded Age entertainments. Architect Stanford White modeled Rosecliff after the Grand Trianon, the garden retreat of French kings at Versailles.

Chateau-sur-Mer

Chateau-sur-Mer epitomizes High Victorian architecture, furniture, wallpapers, ceramics and stenciling. It was the most palatial residence in Newport until the appearance of the Gilded Age Vanderbilt houses in the 1890s.

Kingscote is a landmark of the Gothic Revival style in American architecture. Its appearance in Newport marked the beginning of the “cottage boom” that would distinguish the town as a veritable laboratory for the design of picturesque houses throughout the 19th century.

Isaac Bell House

Isaac Bell House is one of the best surviving examples of shingle-style architecture in the country. Its architects and designers drew from a mix of international and American influences to create a unique Gilded Age style.

Green Animals Topiary Garden

Home to more than 80 topiary animals and other figures for more than a century, Green Animals also blazes with colorful flowers from May until October. The 7-acre property overlooks Narragansett Bay.

Hunter House

Hunter House (c. 1748) is one of the finest examples of Colonial architecture in Newport. The house was owned by wealthy merchants who furnished it with decorative arts produced by expert craftsmen. Such a luxurious lifestyle depended on the labor of enslaved people of African descent. Recent research by the Preservation Society has identified at least 13 enslaved individuals who lived and worked at Hunter House. Today's Hunter House honors their perseverance and incalculable contributions to Newport’s past. Guide-led tours only, advance reservations required

Jaeger wins Houston Open for 1st PGA Tour title. Scheffler's bid for 3 in a row ends on 5-foot putt

Houston open golf.

HOUSTON (AP) — Stephan Jaeger couldn't have dreamed up a better scenario for his first PGA Tour victory. He played the final 36 holes with the best player in the world, and he won the Houston Open on Sunday to earn his first trip to the Masters.

“It feels amazing,” Jaeger said.

Scottie Scheffler couldn't imagine a tougher way for his March winning streak to end — a clutch shot to 5 feet on the final hole, and a birdie putt he thought was good until he looked up and realized it wasn't.

“I hit two or three really good shots into 18 to give myself a chance and I feel like I made the putt and I looked up and it was breaking off,” Scheffler said. “So a bit disappointing, but Stephan played great this week and he’s a deserving champion.”

Jaeger closed with nine straight pars, and that was just enough for a 3-under 67 to finally win in his 135th attempt on the PGA Tour.

Jaeger was preparing for a playoff after narrowly missing a 20-foot birdie putt that would have assured the victory. But then Scheffler, who gave himself three good looks down the stretch, saw his putt burn the left edge of the cup.

“I expected him to make it, and I’m not mad at him for missing it,” Jaeger said.

Scheffler was trying to become the first player in seven years to win three straight starts on the PGA Tour, and he was right there with a chance. Two shots behind, he had a 20-foot eagle putt on the par-5 16th and settled for birdie. He missed from 12 feet for birdie on the 17th, and stayed alive when Jaeger missed from 7 feet on the reachable par-4 17th.

His last chance was from 5 feet.

“It would be one thing if I pulled it or something like that,” Scheffler said. "I just misread it. I don’t know why I misread it, it’s part of the game. Maybe I could have hit it with some more speed, I felt like I hit a nice putt kind of how I wanted to, just didn’t go.”

Jaeger, a 34-year-old German who came to high school in Tennessee when he was 16, earned his first trip to the Masters with the victory. He also is in the remaining four $20 million signature events this season.

Alejandro Tosti had a chance to become the fourth PGA Tour rookie to win this early in the year. He was tied for the lead until chipping too strong on the 18th and missing the 18-foot par putt for a 68.

There was a five-way tie for the lead at the start — the largest on tour since 2009 — and eight players had at least a share of the lead at some point during the round.

Jaeger was always in the mix, taking the lead with an 8-foot birdie putt on the par-3 ninth hole at Memorial Park. That was his last birdie of the day, and no one could beat him.

“I was just tried to stay within myself,” Jaeger said. “Birdies eluded me on the back nine. But this golf course plays difficult, especially when you're around the lead. I'm just super happy.”

Thomas Detry, David Skinns and Taylor Moore all made mistakes down the stretch.

Scheffler was one shot behind when he missed the green on the par-3 15th and failed to save par on an 8-foot putt, falling two shots behind with three to play. He got one back with his birdie on the downwind 16th, where Jaeger had to lay up and settle for par.

Scheffler and Jaeger both missed good birdie chances on the 17th, and Scheffler had one last chance on the 18th.

Jaeger finished at 12-under 268 and cracks the top 50 in the world ranking for the first time.

“I couldn’t have dreamed up a better week,” Jaeger said. “Playing Scottie last couple days, he’s been on a tear, so to kind of slay the dragon a little bit this week was amazing. He’s such a good dude, such a good player, I was just happy to play with him a couple days.”

Defending champion Tony Finau closed with two straight birdies for a 66 and joined Scheffler, Tosti, Detry and Moore in a tie for second.

This was the final week for players to move into the top 50 and earn a Masters invitation, and no one from outside the top 50 — Mackenzie Hughes and Tom Hoge had the best chances — did well enough to earn a spot.

Byeong Hun An is the only player from the top 50 added to the field for the Masters, which now includes Jaeger.

Stephan Jaeger captures Houston Open for first PGA Tour title, halts Scottie Scheffler’s bid for third win in a row

Stephan Jaeger kisses the trophy after claiming his first PGA Tour victory in his 135th attempt.

HOUSTON — Stephan Jaeger won his first PGA Tour event in his 135th attempt, closing with nine straight pars for a 3-under-par 67 and avoiding a playoff when Scottie Scheffler missed a 5-foot birdie putt on the final hole Sunday.

Scheffler was trying to become the first player in seven years to win three straight starts on the PGA Tour, and he was right there with a chance. He two-putted for birdie from 20 feet on the par-5 16th and missed from 12 feet for birdie on the 17th.

His 5-foot birdie putt to force a playoff missed to the left, and Scheffler had to settle for a 68 and a runner-up finish.

Who Is Opening Madonna’s ‘The Celebration Tour?’

Flisadam Pointer

Madonna’s miraculous medical recovery brought a new meaning to The Celebration Tour’s name. Initially, it was a party to honor her musical legacy as she performed some of her biggest hits, including “ Like A Virgin .” For the singer and ticketholders, it’s a gathering to show gratitude for life. So, who’s the lucky entertainer taking the stage at The Celebration Tour as the official opener?

Who is Opening Madonna’s The Celebration Tour ?

Instead of tapping another musician as the opening act, Madonna found someone who could do it all. The official opener of her The Celebration Tour is activist, recording artist, comedian, media personality, and drag performer Bob The Drag Queen. The Columbus, Georgia native is wildly known as the season eight winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race reality competition show. Since snatching the crown, Bob has starred in several comedy specials, including Woke Man in a Dress. Bob co-hosted HBO’s We’re Here alongside Eureka O’Hara and Shangela Laquifa Wadley.

Back in March, Bob was added to the tour by Madonna to protest Nashville’s anti-drag legislation . “The oppression of the LGBTQ+ is not only unacceptable and inhumane; it’s creating an unsafe environment; it makes America a dangerous place for our most vulnerable citizens, especially trans women of color. Also, these so-called laws to protect our children are unfounded and pathetic. Anyone with half a brain knows not to f*ck with a drag queen. Bob and I will see you from the stage in Nashville, where we will celebrate the beauty that is the queer community,” wrote Madonna in a statement.

Unfortunately, Madonna fell ill shortly after, and the tour was ultimately postponed. Now, she’s back on the road, and so is Bob.

The First Look: Masters Tournament

The First Look

Change Text Size

It's time for the first major championship of the PGA TOUR season.

Augusta National is primed and ready for the 2024 Masters Tournament after a fabulous finish to the Augusta National Women’s Amateur and the wonderful Drive, Chip & Putt National Final.

Scottie Scheffler recently added a second PLAYERS Championship to his resume. Can the defending champ do the same at the Masters? He is the unquestioned No. 1 player in the world right now, but he will have plenty of challengers.

Here's everything you need to know as the TOUR returns to Augusta.

NOTABLE INVITES AND AMATEURS: Fred Ridley, the chairman of the Augusta National Golf Club and the Masters, extended three special invitations for 2024 to Denmark’s Thorbjørn Olesen , Japan’s Ryo Hisatsune and Chile’s Joaquin Niemann . Olesen, who holds dual DP World Tour and PGA TOUR membership, has won three years in a row on the DP World Tour and finished T6 in his Masters debut in 2013. Hisatsune was last year’s Rookie of the Year on the DP World Tour and has made seven of 10 cuts on the PGA TOUR this season. This will be his Masters debut. Niemann will be playing his fifth Masters… World No. 1 amateur Christo Lamprecht of South Africa headlines the amateur contingent. Lamprecht, who is in the field as the reigning British Amateur champion, made headlines by holding the first-round lead at The Open. Lamprecht also is No. 2 in PGA TOUR University. The other amateurs in the Masters are Santiago de la Fuente of Mexico (the Latin America Amateur Championship winner), Neal Shipley of the United States (U.S. Amateur finalist), Australia’s Jasper Stubbs (Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship winner) and Stewart Hagestad (U.S. Mid-Amateur champion). All of the amateurs except Hagestad are making their Masters debut. Hagestad is playing for a third time; he was the low amateur in 2017.

SIGNATURE EVENT STORYLINES: The Aon Next 10 and Aon Swing 5 for the RBC Heritage will be finalized this week. Though the Masters does not count towards the Aon Swing 5, it could change if Peter Malnati or Thomas Detry are bumped from the Aon Next 10 this week. Malnati and Detry would move into the Aon Swing 5 if they fall out of the Aon Next 10. Click here for the full standings.

COMCAST BUSINESS TOUR TOP 10 UPDATES: Ludvig Åberg and Chris Kirk swapped spots in the TOUR TOP 10 after the Valero Texas Open, with Aberg now at No. 8 and Kirk at No. 9. The rest of the TOUR TOP 10 remained the same… Akshay Bhatia jumped from No. 55 to No. 12 in the standings after his victory and is within shouting distance of the TOUR TOP 10 for the first time… Denny McCarthy , who Bhatia topped in a playoff in San Antonio, moved from No. 85 to No. 19.

FEDEXCUP: Winner receives 750 FedExCup points.

COURSE: Augusta National Golf Club, par 72, 7,555 yards. After multiple changes in 2022 and 2023, there was just one update for 2024, as the par-5 second was lengthened by 10 yards. Over the past three Masters, the second hole played as the easiest each year.

Rory McIlroy, in his pre-tournament press conference at the Valero Texas Open, also mentioned there were changes to the greens on Nos. 2, 4 and 6.

“There's like a back middle hole location on two, there's a slightly bigger area in there where they can sort of move that around a little bit," he said. "On four they've sort of made the back right section a little bit bigger for an extra pin position there. And then six is different, like the top right plateau is definitely bigger and then they've flattened out a section in the back left to maybe have an extra hole location there, too."

72-HOLE RECORD: 268, Dustin Johnson (2020)

18-HOLE RECORD: 63, Nick Price (third round, 1986) and Greg Norman (first round, 1996)

LAST TIME: Jon Rahm won the green jacket in a come-from-behind triumph on a marathon final day at Augusta National. Rahm was four shots back of the leader, Brooks Koepka, to start Sunday and had to play 30 holes due to weather knocking out much of Saturday’s third round. Rahm shot a final-round 69 to win by four over Koepka and Phil Mickelson. Jordan Spieth and Russell Henley finished tied for fourth, along with Patrick Reed.

Eras Tour Openers: What To Know About Taylor Swift’s 10 Opening Acts

Sabrina Carpenter will be joining Swift at her international tour stops.

Who Are Taylor Swift's Eras Tour Openers? 9 Opening Acts & Dates: Paramore, HAIM, Phoebe Bridgers, b...

Taylor Swift has always been ahead of her time when it comes to selecting her opening acts. In 2013, she had collaborator Ed Sheeran open for her on the Red Tour before he blew up to superstardom. The same thing happened to Shawn Mendes after he was an opening act on the 1989 World Tour in 2015, and Charli XCX’s profile only rose after 2017’s Reputation Stadium Tour . So, it should come as no surprise to Swifties that Swift’s openers for the Eras Tour , her first trek in more than five years, are a who’s who of today’s most beloved artists and soon-to-be stars.

Rather than bring one or two artists to open every date as with her past tours, Swift has assembled an army of up-and-coming musicians and Grammy nominees, spreading them across the tour. Paramore, HAIM, Phoebe Bridgers, beabadoobee, MUNA, girl in red, GAYLE, Gracie Abrams, OWENN, and Sabrina Carpenter will all be opening for different dates on tour. In fact, if fans wanted to catch them all, you’d have to go to at least six different shows across the country — and then all the way to Latin America to see Carpenter in action.

Tickets were hard enough to get for one Eras Tour show, so if you’re one of the lucky Swifties who obtained seats, you need to know who’s going to perform on your date. This guide to Swift’s 10 Eras Tour opening acts will give everything you need to know, including each artist’s notable songs and their own connections to the 12-time Grammy winner.

Swift is kicking off the Eras Tour with a bang, having platinum-selling band Paramore open for the first two shows. Swift has been friends with lead singer Hayley Williams for quite some time, having her star in the “Bad Blood” video and bringing her out to sing “That’s What You Get” on the Speak Now Tour, and their friendship will only grow when Paramore also joins the European leg of the tour.

“Having Paramore join me on tour is such an honor,” Swift told Billboard in January. “We came up alongside each other as Nashville teenagers writing our own music, so it feels insanely special to kick off the tour together nearly two decades later.”

In May 2022, Swift posted a TikTok of her getting ready to make her NYU commencement speech, set to the tune of beabadoobee’s dreamy and bittersweet “See You Soon.” Swifties should’ve caught it as an Easter Egg, because the Filipino-British songwriter , who is labelmates with one of Swift’s favorite bands The 1975, will probably sing that ballad at her Eras Tour shows .

“I remember telling an interviewer that my dream support was Taylor Swift, and then I got a call from my manager saying she wants you to go on tour with her,” she told The Times in February. “I messaged all my girlfriends, ‘Guess f*cking what…’”

In October 2022, MUNA covered Swift’s folklore fan favorite “august” for Spotify’s “Live at Electric Lady” series. Just a couple weeks later, the proudly queer synth-pop band, who are signed to fellow opening act Bridgers’ label, were announced as one of the Eras Tour openers . It will be Katie Gavin, Josette Maskin, and Naomi McPherson’s biggest slot to date, after opening for Kacey Musgraves’ Star-crossed Unveiled Tour and Lorde’s Solar Power Tour.

“We were just starting to make music in college when 1989 came out,” McPherson recalled to Variety . “I remember a friend of mine gave me Fearless on a flash drive, and I was obsessed with ‘Fifteen’ and in my feelings.”

After collaborating with Swift on her Red (Taylor’s Version) “From the Vault” track “Nothing New” in 2021, Bridgers is taking the next step in their musical partnership by opening for Swift, even taking a small break from her supergroup boygenius for the Eras Tour. The duo has constantly praised each other’s catalogs, with Bridgers calling Swift’s music “high art” on Charli XCX’s radio show Best Song Ever . “She’s like the king of her craft,” she said. “She’s just a perfect example of someone who uses all the resources at her disposal to be completely genuine.”

Swift has a special fondness for the color red, so it’s no surprise that she quickly became a fan of girl in red , supporting her debut album If I Could Make It Go Quiet on her Instagram Story in May 2021, which would also double as a hint about Red (Taylor’s Version) . The emerging artist said that Swift even sent her an email that was as long as a “f*cking book.” “I was like, ‘I love you so much... you’re my everything,’” she told iHeartRadio.

Swift and the HAIM sisters have a long history. The band appeared as opening acts for a few shows on the 1989 World Tour, and they’ve all stayed close friends ever since, with Swift often joking that she’s the fourth Haim sister . Their musical partnership has grown as well, with HAIM lending story inspiration and background vocals on Swift’s evermore track “no body, no crime,” and Swift returning the favor for a remix of their 2020 song “Gasoline.” At this point, the Eras Tour is just another fun reunion.

Gayle probably wouldn’t say “abcdefu” directly to Swift, but she will be singing it with thousands of people at the Eras Tour. After releasing her two-part EP A Study of the Human Experience and landing her first Grammy nomination in 2022, Swift has now given Gayle a new feat to check off her list.

She’ll technically be the first person overall to perform on the Eras Tour, as she’s the first opener on opening night. “It just means the world to me,” she said on Apple Music 1 on March 10. “I had no clue what I was going to do this year. I was like, ‘Oh my God, I had the best year of my life. What am I going to do next year?’ And she was like, ‘Here’s something to add to your calendar.’”

After opening for Olivia Rodrigo’s Sour Tour and making her debut album Good Riddance with Swift’s folklore and evermore collaborator Aaron Dessner, the indie-pop singer is now slated to play the most shows of all Eras Tour openers.

“She’s as spectacular a person and friend as she is an artist, writer, director,” Abrams told Billboard in February. “She’s really that great. To be able to lean on her in any capacity really means a lot. I’m so stoked to watch her crush it every single night. To see her up close in that way and be able to study that is the greatest gift.”

Owenn opens for John Legend at Lucca Summer Festival on July 09, 2022 in Lucca, Italy.

While OWENN may not be an immediate familiar face, you’ve seen him before without even realizing it. He starred in Swift’s 2019 “Lover” video as the titular lover, and before then, he got his start as a dancer and choreographer for the likes of Beyoncé, Miley Cyrus, Lil Nas X, and Swift. After Swift helped him get signed to Republic Records, he’s putting his music career in the spotlight as the only male opening act on the Eras Tour. “I cried like a little baby,” he told iHeartRadio about his reaction to finding out he’d be an opener.

Carpenter is one of pop music’s fastest-rising stars, with her fifth album Emails I Can’t Send breaking her out of the Disney mold and becoming her highest-charting record. The singer doesn’t have a huge public history with Swift, aside from attending the Eras Tour in Philadelphia, but her reaction to joining the Latin American shows proves she’s been a Swiftie all along.

Taking to Twitter, Carpenter shared a screenshot of a tweet she wrote after attending the Fearless Tour in 2010, alongside the Latin American tour poster. “Trying to process this but alas i shant,” she wrote. “Thank u @taylorswift13 u the 1 :’) this is the dreamiest dream come true.”

‘Is She Sure?’ How the Breeders Joined Olivia Rodrigo’s Guts Tour.

The ’90s alt-rock icons hit the Madison Square Garden stage for the first time Friday night, after the 21-year-old pop star invited them to join her on the road.

Olivia Rodrigo remembers her life in two parts: before she heard the Breeders’ “Cannonball,” and after, she told the crowd at Madison Square Garden on Friday night, when her Guts World Tour arrived in New York.

And that is how the ’90s alt-rock idols came to play the New York arena for the first time last week, 31 years after that song from their platinum 1993 album, “Last Splash,” charted on Billboard’s Hot 100.

Rodrigo’s camp initially approached the Breeders in September about opening some dates on the tour supporting her second album, “Guts .” “My first reaction was, Wow, that seems kind of odd,” the band’s bassist, Josephine Wiggs, said in an interview. “But after I’d thought about it for a while, I thought, ‘That’s actually really genius.’”

Kim Deal, the singer-guitarist who leads the band with her twin sister, Kelley, said she was surprised when they got the invite. “I’d heard ‘Drivers License,’ and I liked that a lot,” she said, referring to Rodrigo’s breakout 2021 smash.

Kelley wondered if it might be a mistake. “I thought, ‘Is she sure? Do they really mean us?’”

But Rodrigo made her enthusiasm clear when the shows were confirmed, reaching out personally to share her excitement. “She texted each one of us individually,” Kelley recalled.

“And said, ‘Really happy to hear that you’re going to do this,’” Wiggs added. “Very classy.”

Aside from Kim, who played Madison Square Garden in 1992 when her earlier band, Pixies, opened for U2, no one in the group had ever performed at the venue before. Kim hadn’t been back since, and said she had no memory of that previous gig: “I usually remember the bad shows, so it’s a good thing that I really don’t remember that one.”

With the first date in the books, the Breeders spent part of Saturday afternoon glimpsing Rodrigo’s soundcheck — she was belting “Ballad of a Homeschooled Girl” to an empty arena — and then briefly chatting with her. “So easy to talk to!” Kim reported as the Breeders headed up to the stage to adjust their own amps and pedals. The lights were up; two men vacuumed the previous night’s pink and purple star-shaped confetti.

“How about we do a piece of ‘Cannonball,’ like when everything comes in?” Kim asked the band, which also includes the drummer Jim Macpherson. They had already tested the distorted ahh-ooohh-ahh vocalizations that open the song. Kim blew a whistle to emulate the record’s microphone feedback.

Rodrigo was born a decade after the release of “Cannonball,” but the 21-year-old heard it as a teenager and remembers “instantly falling in love with the Breeders,” she wrote in an email. “I thought Kim was the coolest girl in the world,” Rodrigo said. “I’m very inspired by them and everything they stand for. They are absolutely iconic, and playing these shows with them has been a surreal honor.” (The Breeders have joined the tour for four shows at the Garden that wrap on Tuesday, and four more at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles later this summer.)

Mischief, wryness, confidence and camaraderie feel encoded into the poised riffs and bass line of “Cannonball,” and it’s easy to imagine girls gently headbanging along to it for eternity. Rodrigo went louder and crunchier on “Guts,” long inspired by artists who are “not trying to recreate a version of rock music that guys make,” as she told The New York Times last year.

Soundcheck proceeded like a supercut. “Should we do half of ‘Do You Love Me Now’?” Kim asked before crashing the song open and letting its twin harmonies ring out. “A little piece of ‘Drivin’ on 9’?” signaling the aching country tune. “Should we throw in ‘Gigantic’?” Kim asked before unleashing the titanic anthem she co-wrote and sang as a member of Pixies. (She dedicated its “big, big love” to Rodrigo during the show.)

Earlier, the band sat in a green room processing its Guts experience so far. Kelley had been impressed by the emotional arc of Rodrigo’s songs the previous night. “I was texting somebody, ‘I’m so empowered right now!’” She later reached out to praise Rodrigo’s voice as “really special,” observing, “Her tone and control are spectacular!”

“She performs with a really good sense of humor,” Kim added.

Wiggs said she could hear some Breeders commonalties in a Rodrigo chord progression, while Macpherson detected a bit of the band in “Jealousy, Jealousy,” from her first album, “Sour.” “The bass riff was almost like a ‘Hag,’ ‘Hellbound’ -ish kind of thing,” he said.

The Breeders expressed shock at how young Rodrigo’s fans were, and the collective decibel of their screams on Friday night. “You’re going to be surprised by how loud it was,” Kelley said. Weren’t their own amps loud, too? “Not louder than 30,000 tweens,” she said.

Kim roasted her bandmates for withholding stage banter the night before. “Looking out at the sea of 7- and 8-year-olds, I had no idea what to say,” Wiggs said, deadpan. “I could just about manage to say something to people who are obviously teenagers. I was like, OK, maybe I’ll try to make eye contact with the dads.”

The Deal sisters are no strangers to parental accompaniment at gigs. “My dad used to have Ray Charles in his headphones, watching us play, when he drove us around in the r.v. with Nirvana,” Kim said, referring to the band’s 1992 tour with what was then the biggest band on Earth. “He’d have his cassette Walkman,” Kelley added. “He was a big supporter, but he’d heard us a million times.”

In Kurt Cobain’s liner notes to Nirvana’s 1992 compilation “Incesticide,” he detailed the recent life experiences that had meant the most to him since “becoming an untouchable boy genius,” including “playing with the Breeders” on the list. “Nirvana and Foo Fighters would really curate their opening bands, which is I think what Olivia is doing in a way, curating new music that she wants fans to get to know,” Kelley said.

Most of the young people watching from the front rows on Saturday were not familiar with the Breeders — who are all in their 50s and 60s — though there were exceptions. “My parents know who they are!” exclaimed an 18-year-old fan named Mack. “My dad said they had some jams back when he was younger. He didn’t know if I would like them, but I trust Olivia.”

Another fan, Elle, 16, was with her father, who saw the Breeders at Lollapalooza alongside Smashing Pumpkins and the Beastie Boys. “For me, this was really cool,” he said. “I don’t know the tour’s other openers as well, but I’ve loved the Breeders since ’94 when I saw them last.”

Rodrigo’s fans were decked out in sparkling skirts, purple bows and platform boots in honor of their heroine, who took the stage in a series of short, glittering skirts. The Breeders are known for more understated sartorial choices. Had they given any thought about to what to wear?

“I sent out a ‘help’ text to a friend of mine,” Kelley admitted. “I said, I’m trying to upgrade my look from my T-shirt and jeans that I typically wear, but staying in my comfort zone. He said, ‘I find glitter or sequins to always be the answer.’ I just waited for him to laugh or something. That was no help to me at all. So I went with a T-shirt and jeans.”

“Like she’s been dressing since seventh grade,” Kim said.

All About Taylor Swift's Eras Tour Opening Acts

The singer is bringing along some of her closet friends for the Eras Tour, including Gracie Abrams and Owenn

open for tour

Taylor Swift 's Eras Tour has included some of her closest friends .

The tour first kicked off on March 17 and sees the singer take fans through her  extensive music catalog, including her past 10 albums.

While Swift rocks the stage with a 3-hour and 13-minute set, she has enlisted some of her music industry friends as the opening acts . The U.S. leg of the tour included big names such as Paramore and Haim, while her international tour has included her close pal Sabrina Carpenter .

Now, fans get to see Swift's entire concert on the big screen with her Eras Tour film , which is set to be released on Oct. 13.

Take a look back at her opening acts from the Eras Tour ahead.

The rock band formed in 2004 but achieved mainstream success with the release of their second album Riot! in 2007. With hits such as "Misery Business," "Crushcrushcrush," and "That's What You Get," the band was nominated for best new artist at the 2008 Grammy Awards .

In February 2023, the band released their new album This Is Why , just in time for the Eras Tour.

Swift and Paramore lead singer Hayley Williams go way back, with Williams previously performing with Swift during her Speak Now Tour and appearing in the singer's star-studded music video for "Bad Blood ."

Paramore appeared as an opening act during Swift's Glendale, Arizona concerts on March 17 and 18. They are also set to open for Swift during her European tour dates.

Sisters Este, Danielle, and Alana Haim comprise this popular rock band, which released their first EP Forever in 2012, which eventually led to a deal with Polydor Records and a management deal with JAY-Z's Roc Nation group. The group received critical acclaim for their 2013 album Days Are Gone , including a nomination for best new artist at the 2015 Grammy Awards .

In June 2020, they released their third album Women in Music Pt. III , which received multiple Grammy nods. An expanded edition of the album featured Swift on the track "Gasoline ," which the singer performed with the band at their London show in July 2022.

Haim's friendship with Swift dates back to 2014 when they were seen attending some of Swift's legendary parties (including her 25th birthday party). Recently, they made a cameo in Swift's star-studded "Bejeweled" music video , which was packed full of Easter eggs about potential Swift album re-recordings.

In addition to serving as the opening act for the Seattle, Washington, and Santa Clara, California concerts, Haim also opened for Swift on the final nights of her U.S. tour in Los Angeles, California.

Phoebe Bridgers

Phoebe Bridgers first stepped into the music scene with the band Sloppy Jane before embarking on a solo career. She released her debut studio album, Stranger in the Alps , in 2017 to critical acclaim, followed by her second album Punisher in 2020, which received four nominations at the 2021 Grammy Awards , including best new artist.

In November 2021, Bridgers appeared on Swift's Red (Taylor's Version) on the track "Nothing New." In April 2022, Bridgers' song "Sidelines" was notably featured on Conversations with Friends , which starred Swift's boyfriend Joe Alwyn .

Bridgers opened for Swift from May 5 to May 28 including stops in Nashville, Tennessee and East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Beabadoobee

Beabadoobee, whose real name is Beatrice Kristi Laus, is a Filipino-British singer who first rose to prominence in 2017 with her music on YouTube. Her song "Coffee" gained over 300,000 views on YouTube, gaining the attention of Dirty Hit Records, whom she later signed with in 2018.

Her debut studio album, Fake It Flowers , was released in October 2020, receiving critical acclaim including the Radar Award at the 2020 NME Awards, where she first met Swift. " Taylor Swift came up to me and told me that she loved my performance and loves my music. She said she never skips a song," Beabadoobee said of her interaction with Swift .

In addition to receiving high praise from Swift, artists such as Harry Styles , Khalid, Jaden Smith, and Matty Healy of The 1975 have shown their support for the singer. Beabadoobee even served as the supporting act for The 1975, a group Swift has also shown her support for over the years.

Beabadoobee opened for Swift from March 24 to April 29, which will include concerts in Las Vegas, Nevada, and Houston, Texas.

Girl in Red

Girl in Red, whose real name is Marie Ulven Ringheim, is a Norwegian singer-songwriter who first stepped onto the scene in 2017 with her music on SoundCloud. In 2018, she released her EP Chapter 1 , followed by Chapter 2 in 2019 and her debut studio album If I Could Make It Go Quiet in 2021.

In 2019, Girl in Red embarked on her first North American tour supporting Conan Gray, another artist Swift has shown her support for in recent years. Girl in Red, whose lyric topics range from heartbreak to mental health to her experience of being queer , has also cited Swift as one of her biggest musical influences.

"I'm inspired by Taylor Swift on so many levels," Girl in Red previously told Vulture . "She's been in this industry so long, gotten the worst that any artist can get when it comes to how the world talks about them, but she still always bounces back with great music."

Girl in Red served as Swift's opening act starting on June 2 in Chicago, Illinois, and ending on June 24 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Muna is an indie pop band consisting of members Katie Gavin, Josette Maskin, and Naomi McPherson. After meeting at the University of Southern California, the trio began making music together, releasing their debut EP, More Perfect , on Bandcamp and SoundCloud. The EP eventually scored them a record deal with RCA Records, though they later signed with Phoebe Bridgers' record label Saddest Factory in 2021.

In addition to releasing three studio albums together, the group has opened for a number of big stars over the years, including Harry Styles and Kacey Musgraves. Muna, who all identify as queer , has gained prominence in the LGBTQ+ community for their lyrics about sexuality and gender.

Swift previously showed her support for the band back in 2020, when she included their track "Number One Fan" on her playlist celebrating International Women's Day. Most recently, the group put their own twist on Swift's Folklore track "August" with the release of their Live at Electric Lady EP.

Muna played at various shows in March, April, June and July 2023, with their final concert being in Denver, Colorado.

Gayle, whose full name is Taylor Gayle Rutherford, was first discovered by former American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi , and eventually signed to Atlantic Records. In 2021, Gayle released her single "ABCDEFU," which quickly went viral on TikTok and Spotify. In March 2022, Gayle released her EP, A Study of the Human Experience Volume One , followed by A Study of the Human Experience Volume Two that October.

In September 2022, Gayle and Swift connected at the Nashville Songwriter Awards, where they were both honored. Gayle later posted a photo with the singer on social media, excitedly writing, "i've died and come back to life." Gayle later sat with Swift at the 2022 American Music Awards in November, alongside fellow Swiftie Sabrina Carpenter.

Gayle served as Swift's opening act for several different dates in March, April and May as well as some of the final U.S. concerts for the tour on Aug. 5 and Aug. 9.

Gracie Abrams

Gracie Abrams, the daughter of director J.J. Abrams and producer Katie McGrath, started garnering buzz in 2019 when she released her debut single "Mean It" under Interscope Records, followed by her debut EP, Minor, in July 2020 and her second EP, This Is What It Feels Like , in November 2021.

While Abrams credits Swift, Bon Iver, Lorde, and Phoebe Bridgers as her musical influences, she has also received praise from some big artists as well, including Post Malone , Billie Eilish, and Olivia Rodrigo (she even opened for Rodrigo on her recent Sour tour ).

Following the release of Abrams' song "Rockland," which was produced by Aaron Dessner, Swift showed her support on TikTok , joking that she needed "5-7 business days" to recover from the song. Abrams was also notably present at Swift's 32nd birthday celebration .

"Everything that she does is f—ing unbelievably inspiring, motivating, it makes me want to do better and be the best version of myself as a writer and a person," Abrams previously told Teen Vogue of her admiration of Swift .

Abrams toured with Swift for a large number of shows from April to August, with her last concert being in Los Angeles, California, which was the final stop on the U.S. tour.

She is also set to join Swift for the Eras Tour in Canada.

Owenn, whose full name is Christian Owens, is an up-and-coming singer who has a long history with Swift. In addition to being a dancer for Swift, during her Reputation stadium tour, Owenn costarred with her in her "Lover" music video .

In fact, Swift helped Owenn get his record deal with Republic Records. "She actually contacted the head of Republic herself on my behalf, which was kind of crazy," Owenn previously revealed during an Instagram Live . In April 2021, Owenn released his debut single "Baby Girl" followed by "Rest of My Life" in 2022.

Following Swift's Eras Tour announcement, Owenn expressed his gratitude to the singer on social media, writing, "I'm so blessed and grateful for this opportunity. Thank you @taylorswift a million times over !!! … This is truly a dream. Thank you everyone for all the support.. I'm still processing!"

Owenn served as the opening act for Swift throughout June as well as one of the last U.S. tour dates on Aug. 4.

Sabrina Carpenter

Sabrina Carpenter first rose to fame as an actress on Disney Channel with the Boy Meets World spinoff series Girl Meets World . Around the same time, she embarked on a singing career with her EP Can't Blame a Girl for Trying in 2014.

Since then, she has released five studio albums, including 2022's Emails I Can't Send , which featured hits such as "Because I Liked a Boy" and "Nonsense." She also went on the Emails I Can't Send Tour later that year in support of the album.

Swift and Carpenter have developed a close friendship in recent years, but Carpenter's love for the singer goes way back to 2009 when she posted a YouTube video of her covering "Picture to Burn." In addition to gushing about Swift in interviews, Carpenter and the "Blank Space" singer have shared a number of cute moments together at award shows.

In June 2023, Swift announced Carpenter as her opening act for the international leg of the Eras Tour with a sweet post on social media. “Sweet angel princess @sabrinacarpenter will be joining us on all of the shows!" Swift wrote at the time.

Meanwhile, Carpenter excitedly reacted to the news on Instagram, writing, “trying to process this but alas i shant CANT WAIT TO JOIN THE ERAS TOUR IN LATIN AMERICA thank u @taylorswift u the 1 :’) this is a dream come true.”

In addition to touring with Swift in Latin America, she will also join Swift in Australia and Singapore.

Aerosmith has announced the rescheduled dates for the “Peace Out” farewell tour, which was abruptly postponed last September because of singer Steven Tyler ‘s ongoing vocal cord and larynx problems.

The singer’s doctor said last year that Tyler, “in addition to the damage to his vocal cords, fractured his larynx, which requires ongoing care. He is receiving the best medical treatment available to ensure his recovery is swift, but given the nature of a fracture, he is being told patience is essential.”

Masters 2024 Leaderboard: First round scores for golf leaders at Augusta

Follow  live updates from all the Masters action here or check out our  hole-by-hole analysis of Tiger Woods' first round  at Augusta National.

The best golfers in the world have once again converged at Augusta National Golf Club in search of the coveted green jacket. This is the 88th edition of the annual Masters Tournament , so will we see a brand new winner or will one of the 18 former winners playing in this year's tournament claim the championship yet again?

Day 1 proved to be exhilarating. Not only did we see the early tournament favorite, Scottie Scheffler , prove why so many people were backing him to win, but a few dark horses emerged as well. LIV's Bryson DeChambeau leads the entire field after Day 1, shooting 7-under par on Thursday. Other golfers who weren't given great odds to start the tournament like Danny Willet (-5) and Nicolai Højgaard (-4) also played some incredible rounds. Even Tiger Woods had some great moments and moves into Day 2 ranking inside the top-20 at 1-under.

Three more days are left in this year's tournament, with one round played each day. The cut will happen after Day 2, and only the top-50 players on the leaderboard will advance into Saturday and Sunday. It's unforgiving, but what else can you expect from a tournament as heralded as The Masters.

Here is everything that happened during Day 1 of the 2024 Masters Tournament.

Small Town, Big Experience.

There’s something very special about this place..

You’ll sense it when you stand under the oaks at Toomer’s Corner. You’ll feel it when you’re greeted by your future classmates on the red brick sidewalks that snake through campus. You’ll know it when you hear “War Eagle” shouted across Samford Lawn.

Your campus visit to Auburn will feel both familiar and exciting: like coming home again for the first time.

Scheduling a Campus Visit

What to expect from your campus tour..

We start with a 30-minute information session, where you’ll learn about:

  • Academic offerings at Auburn
  • The admissions process
  • Scholarships
  • The Auburn community

Next, a 75-minute walking tour, led by a Student Recruiter, will focus on Auburn’s history, tradition, and student life. Don’t be surprised if current students say “hey” or “War Eagle!” as you pass. It’s in our DNA to be welcoming to all who visit campus.
