Entry Guidelines

As per IATF Resolution No. 2 (s. 2022) on the ENTRY, QUARANTINE and TESTING Requirements of inbound travelers to the Philippines

A. FULLY VACCINATED (Filipino and Foreign Travelers)

- No pre-departure COVID-19 Test requirement - Must have received the 2nd dose in a 2-dose series or a single dose COVID-19 vaccine more than fourteen (14) days prior to the date and time of departure from the country of origin/port of embarkation.

B. UNVACCINATED or PARTIALLY VACCINATED (Filipino and Foreign Travelers)

1. Travelers 15 years and older shall present a remotely supervised/laboratory-based Rapid Antigen Test administered and certified by a healthcare professional in a healthcare facility, laboratory, clinic, or other similar establishment taken 24 hours prior to the date and time of departure from country of origin/first port of embarkation in a continuous travel to the Philippines, excluding lay-overs; provided that, he/she has not left the airport premises or has not been admitted into another country during such lay-over. 2. Travelers 15 years and older who fail to present a negative pre-departure testing shall be required to undergo a laboratory-based Antigen Test UPON ARRIVAL at the airport. 3. ACCOMPANIED minors below 15 years of age who are NOT VACCINATED for any reason whatsoever shall follow the quarantine protocols of their parent/s or an accompanying adult/guardian traveling with them. 4. UNACCOMPANIED minors below 15 years of age who are NOT VACCINATED for any reason whatsoever shall follow the protocols set forth in Section B (1) and (2) above. NOTE:- Any inbound traveler, whether Filipino or Foreign national, who shall test positive for COVID-19 through rapid antigen test shall be subjected to the latest prevailing quarantine and isolation protocols of the DOH.

The local government is in the process of introducing a Philippines electronic travel authorization for Indian nationals , known as a Philippines eTA.

The eTA is currently available only to Taiwanese passport holders, but the system will soon include citizens of India.

What is a Philippines eTA for India?

The Philippines eTA for Indian citizens is a convenient online system that will allow travelers to easily obtain a permit to travel.

They will be able to apply from the comfort of their homes or offices in a matter of minutes, without having to visit a Philippine embassy or consulate .

Types of Philippines Visas for Indian Nationals

Indian passport holders require a visa to enter the Philippines , regardless of the length of stay and the purpose of their trip.

The Philippines offers a number of different visa types , including:

• A tourist visa to be used when traveling for tourism, leisure, or family visits
• A non-immigrant visa that can be used for working or studying in the country
• An immigrant visa for applicants with specific professional skills or qualifications that can benefit the country
• A resident retiree’s visa that allows permanent residence in the Philippines

Can Indian passport holders obtain a Philippines visa on arrival?

The Philippines offers a visa on arrival to nationals of select countries. However, Indian travelers are not eligible for this type of visa .

Indian travelers are required to obtain a visa suitable for the purpose of their trip before traveling to the Philippines .

What Are the Philippines eTA Requirements for Indian Citizens?

Indian passport holders must meet the Philippines eTA conditions for India in order to be able to apply for the travel authorization.

All applicants must have an Indian passport with a minimum validity of 6 months after the date of leaving the Philippines. If the passport expires earlier, Indian candidates must renew the document and apply using the new passport.

Likewise, dual nationals are required to enter the Philippines with the same passport they used to apply for an eTA.

Additionally, it is necessary to have a valid debit or credit card to pay the eTA Philippines processing fee, as well as an email address to receive the eTA.

It is important to keep in mind that eTA Philippines for Indian nationals is only valid for trips with the following purposes: tourism, leisure, and family or friends visits .

How to Apply for a Philippines eTA from India

To apply for a Philippines eTA from India, candidates will have to complete the Philippines’ online visa waiver application form and enter personal and passport details , including name, nationality, date of birth, passport number, and the expiry date of the passport.

Applicants must make sure that all the information in the form is correct and corresponds to the details of the passport.

It will also be necessary to pay a non-refundable eTA Philippines processing fee . Payment will be done through a secure online system using a credit or debit card authorized for online transactions.

What should Indian candidates do after applying for a Philippines visa waiver?

Indian applicants will need to print out the Philippines visa waiver and show it at the border crossing along with a valid passport.

Travelers from India must also be able to present the following documents :

• A return or onward ticket
• Proof of sufficient funds to finance their trip
• Hotel booking

Please note that the Philippines eTA for India will not automatically guarantee the right to enter the country . Philippine immigration officials may still refuse entry to passengers who are violating the Philippines’ immigration laws and regulations.

Processing time for the Philippines eTA from India

Indian travelers will obtain their eTA for the Philippines by email within three business days of applying .

If there are any errors in the application, the process may take longer as applicants will be asked to fill out and submit a new form.

However, please check the latest travel advisories from the official sources before planning your trip.

Visa Requirements for Indian travelers to the Philippines

1. tourist visa:.

Duration: Tourist visas for Indians are typically issued for a duration of 30 days or 59 days, depending on your choice and the discretion of the Philippine Embassy or Consulate.

Sponsorship: Indian tourists can apply for a tourist visa directly through the nearest Philippine Embassy or Consulate or through accredited travel agencies. A sponsor in the Philippines is not typically required for a tourist visa.

Extensions: You can extend your stay in the Philippines while on a tourist visa, but you must apply for an extension at the Bureau of Immigration in the Philippines.

2. Business Visa:

Duration: Business visas are available for Indian nationals traveling for business purposes and are typically issued for 59 days.

Requirements: You may need to provide a letter of invitation from a Filipino company or organization, stating the purpose and duration of your visit, among other supporting documents.

3. Balikbayan Visa:

Duration: The Balikbayan visa, also known as the "Return Visa," is available for Indian nationals who have former Filipino citizenship or are married to a Filipino citizen. It allows for a one-year stay in the Philippines.

General Visa Requirements:

A passport with a minimum validity of six months from the date of entry.

Completed visa application form.

Passport-sized photographs.

Proof of sufficient funds to cover your stay.

Proof of onward or return flight tickets.

Travel itinerary and hotel reservation.

As of my last update, airlines like Air India, IndiGo, and Singapore Airlines offered direct flights from major Indian cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Chennai to Manila. Other common airline options with one connection include Cathay Pacific, Emirates, and Qatar Airways. Here is a list of flying options from major Indian cities to the Philippines:

Peak Season: November to April (Dry Season - Best for Beach Vacations)

Entry, Exit and Visa Requirements

Visit the website of the  Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines  in Washington, D.C., for the most current visa information.

If you remain in the Philippines beyond the “admit until” date stamped in your passport by immigration authorities, you may be subject to fines and detention by the  Philippine Bureau of Immigration (BI).

Certain foreigners must apply for an  Emigration Clearance Certificate  (ECC) from BI before they may depart the Philippines.

U.S. citizens who intend to work in the Philippines should contact the Philippines Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) for information.

The U.S. Department of State is unaware of any HIV/AIDS entry restrictions for visitors or foreign residents of the Philippines. 

We advise all U.S. citizens against traveling with potentially prohibited items, such as firearms, on their person or in their checked baggage. While at the airport or traveling in country, possession of prohibited items such as live or spent ammunition or firearms, or anything resembling such items -- whether it be a souvenir, gift, or artifact – may subject the traveler to prosecution and stringent penalties by local authorities.  Learn more about how to avoid problems when traveling abroad with firearms.

Check with your airline to determine whether a particular item is allowed for transport, as well as with the appropriate authorities in the Philippines – such as the  Philippine National Police  and  Bureau of Immigration  – as well as the appropriate authorities in any transit countries.

Safety and Security

Terrorism:  Terrorist groups, and those inspired by such organizations, are intent on attacking U.S. citizens abroad. Terrorists are increasingly using less-sophisticated methods of attack – including knives, firearms, and vehicles – to target crowds more effectively. Frequently, their aim is unprotected or vulnerable targets, such as:

• High-profile public events (sporting contests, political rallies, demonstrations, holiday events, celebratory gatherings, etc.)
• Hotels, clubs, and restaurants frequented by tourists
• Places of worship
• Shopping malls and markets
• Public transportation systems (including subways, buses, trains, and scheduled commercial flights)

U.S. citizens should remain alert to the potential for explosions and bombings as part of pre-planned attacks, as well as the threat of kidnapping.

Terrorist and armed groups continue plotting possible kidnappings, bombings, and other attacks in the Philippines. Terrorist and armed groups may attack with little or no warning, targeting tourist locations, markets/shopping malls, and local government facilities.

The Philippine government has declared a “State of National Emergency on Account of Lawless Violence in Mindanao.” On August 24, 2020, dual suicide bombings in Jolo, Sulu, Mindanao, killed 15 people and injured 77 others.

Crime:  Confidence games (con games), pickpocketing, Internet scams, and credit/ATM card fraud are common. Be wary of unknown individuals who attempt to befriend you, especially just after you arrive in country. Do not accept food, drinks, or rides in private vehicles from strangers, even if they appear to be legitimate. Solo travelers have been drugged and robbed by strangers after accepting an invitation to visit a tourist destination.

Kidnappings, physical assaults, murder-for-hire, and other violent crimes occur in the Philippines. Philippine government law enforcement agencies are engaged in a nationwide counter-narcotics campaign that has resulted in a sharp increase in violence between police and individuals suspected of involvement in the drug trade. Taxis or ride-sharing applications are the recommended form of public transportation. However, taxi drivers and/or individuals using stolen taxi cabs have committed robberies. Ask the hotel, restaurant, and/or business establishment to call a reliable taxi service for you.

• Do not enter a taxi if it has already accepted another passenger.
• Request that the taxi driver use the meter to record your fare.
• Wait for another cab if the driver is unwilling to comply with these requests.
• Make a mental note of the license plate number of your taxi, or text it to someone, should there be a problem.

When driving in the city, make certain that vehicle doors are locked and windows are rolled up.

Travelers have been stopped and robbed shortly after leaving Manila Ninoy Aquino International Airport in a taxi or private vehicle. 

One common form of credit/ATM card fraud involves an illicit electronic device attached to ATM card readers that retrieves and records information, including the PIN, from a card's magnetic strip. Refer to the Overseas Security Advisory Council (OSAC) website for more  information .

Internet romance and financial scams are prevalent in the Philippines. Scams are often initiated through Internet postings/profiles or by unsolicited emails and letters. Scammers almost always pose as U.S. citizens who have no one else to turn to for help. Common scams include:

Tourism:   Please check with the  Philippine Department of Tourism  before traveling. The safety standards you might expect of transport and tour operators, including adventure activities such as diving, are not always met. Sufficient safety equipment may not be provided, and recommended maintenance standards and safety precautions may not be observed. Always use available safety equipment, such as lifejackets or seatbelts, even if others do not. If appropriate safety equipment is not available, use another provider. In the event of an injury, appropriate medical treatment is widely available throughout the country. Outside of a major metropolitan center, it may take more time for first responders and medical professionals to stabilize a patient and provide life-saving assistance. U.S. citizens are encouraged to purchase medical evacuation insurance . If you are planning to dive, the  Diver’s Alert Network (DAN)  provides information on diving accident management. 

Local Laws & Special Circumstances

Criminal Penalties:  You are subject to local laws. If you violate local laws, even unknowingly, you may be expelled, arrested, or imprisoned. Individuals establishing a business or practicing a profession that requires additional permits or licensing should seek information from the competent local authorities, prior to practicing or operating a business.

The judicial process in the Philippines typically is lengthy, extending for years rather than weeks or months, and individuals charged with a crime can be held in indefinite pre-trial detention as their case makes its way through the judicial system. Penalties for possessing, using, or trafficking in illegal drugs in the Philippines are severe.

Convicted offenders can expect long jail sentences and heavy fines.

If a traveler is found to have any amount of drugs on his or her person, or nearby, when arriving or departing from the Philippines, he or she will be charged with trafficking. Trafficking is a non-bailable charge, and the maximum penalty is life imprisonment. If you intend to enter the Philippines with a prescribed controlled substance (e.g., medical marijuana), obtain clearance from the Philippine government first. 

Since June 2016, Philippine authorities have conducted a public campaign against illegal drugs. This has resulted in armed confrontations between authorities and suspected drug dealers and users.

Always carry a copy of your passport in the event that you are asked about your citizenship. You may be questioned by authorities if you take pictures of certain buildings, especially government buildings or military installations. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs could land you immediately in jail.

The Philippine Bureau of Immigration (BI) may consider the participation of foreigners in demonstrations or political rallies in the Philippines to be a violation of the terms of admission. Foreign nationals who participate in demonstrations, political rallies, or other activity deemed anti-government in nature may be detained and deported for violating Philippine immigration laws.

In the Philippines, any adult in the company of a minor under 12 years old who is not related within the “fourth degree” may be subject to a severe penalty. U.S. citizens should be aware of this law both to avoid unlawful behavior and to protect themselves against potentially frivolous accusations.

LGBTQI+ Travelers: There is no prohibition on entry into the Philippines by LGBTQI+ individuals. Transgender travelers should be aware that immigration officials may require supporting documents if the gender in the traveler’s passport does not reflect the gender expression of a transgender person. According to Philippine law, an individual’s sex must match that assigned at birth as reflected on the official birth certificate, even in cases of post-operative sex reassignment.

Same-sex relationships are not illegal in the Philippines, but they lack legal recognition. No federal law prohibits discrimination against LGBTQI+ individuals. Several cities, however, have passed local ordinances protecting LGBTQI+ rights. Despite these legislative efforts, LGBTQI+ individuals continue to face discrimination and harassment.

• Adequate health facilities are available throughout the country but health care in rural areas may be below U.S. standards.
• Public medical clinics lack basic resources and supplies.
• Hospitals and doctors often require payment “up front” prior to service or admission.

• Psychological and psychiatric services are limited, even in the larger cities, with hospital-based care only available through government institutions.

• U.S. citizens have suffered serious complications or died during or after having cosmetic or other elective surgery.
• Medical tourism is a rapidly growing industry. People seeking health care overseas should understand that medical systems operate differently from those in the United States and are not subject to the same rules and regulations. • We strongly recommend  supplemental insurance  to cover medical evacuation in the event of unforeseen medical complications.
• Your legal options in case of malpractice are very limited in the Philippines.
• Although the Philippines has many elective/cosmetic surgery facilities that are on par with those found in the United States, the quality of care varies widely. If you plan to undergo surgery in the Philippines, make sure that emergency medical facilities are available and professionals are accredited and qualified. 

Pharmaceuticals:

• Exercise caution when purchasing medication overseas. Pharmaceuticals, both over the counter and requiring prescription in the United States, are often readily available for purchase with few controls. Counterfeit medication is common and may prove to be ineffective, the wrong strength, or contain dangerous ingredients. Medication should be purchased in consultation with a medical professional and from reputable establishments.
• U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the Food and Drug Administration are responsible for rules governing the transport of medication to the United States. Medication purchased abroad must meet their requirements to be legally brought back into the United States. Medication should be for personal use and must be approved for usage in the United States. Water Quality:

In many areas, tap water is not potable. Bottled water and beverages are generally safe, although you should be aware that many restaurants and hotels serve tap water unless bottled water is specifically requested. Be aware that ice for drinks may be made using tap water.

• Air pollution is a significant problem in several major cities in the Philippines. Consider the impact seasonal smog and heavy particulate pollution may have on you and consult your doctor before traveling if necessary.

Travel and Transportation

Road Conditions and Safety:  Vehicle traffic is dense and unpredictable. The road system is frequently congested, and drivers are often undisciplined. Consider the risks of driving your own vehicle if you are not used to Philippine road conditions. Avoid driving off the national highways and other paved roads, especially at night. Be extra vigilant when crossing the street. Do not expect vehicles to stop.

Traffic Laws:  If you are involved in an accident, contact the local police, and attempt to stay inside your car until the police arrive before engaging with the other driver. Do not attempt to negotiate with drivers until police arrive. Drivers often ignore or do not yield to emergency vehicles, which may delay their arrival to the scene of an accident.

Always have a valid driver’s license and relevant documents with you when driving. Public Transportation:  Exercise caution while traveling by inter-island ferryboats or other public transportation. Avoid overcrowded or unsafe transport. There have been 19 major inter-island ferryboat accidents since 2012, two with significant loss of life. U.S. government employees are advised not to use inter-island ferry boat services unless they are the only means of transportation available. There have also been a series of bus accidents due to poor bus maintenance or driver error. While taxis are the recommended form of public transportation, there have been safety issues using taxis. The Philippines on Saturday decided to welcome travellers from India and nine other countries from September 6, according to a Presidential Palace announcement.

The announcement came even as the country recorded its second highest number of COVID-19 cases with 20,310 infections on Friday, pushing the national tally to 2.04 million, The Manila Times newspaper reported.

Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte approved the recommendation of the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) to lift the current travel restrictions on India and nine other countries starting September 6, Presidential Palace spokesperson Harry Roque was quoted as saying by the newspaper.

The other countries are Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia, the official said.

International travelers coming from the 10 countries will, however, comply with the appropriate entry, testing and quarantine protocols, depending on their approved ''listing,'' Roque said.

The Philippine government, in a COVID-19 update on August 13, had extended its travel ban on India and nine other countries until August 31.

The presidential spokesperson said the IATF approved the adoption of "Yellow" and "Red" classifications, in addition to the "Green List" countries/jurisdictions/territories.

"This is based on their respective incidence rates and case counts as primary criteria, and testing data as secondary criteria. The incidence rate is the cumulative new cases over the past 28 days per 100,000 population while case counts are cumulative new cases over the past 28 days," Roque added.

Positivity rate remained at 27.4 per cent, meaning that out of the 67,759 tests, 18,566 tested positive for the coronavirus, the report added.

Meanwhile, India's COVID-19 infection tally rose by 42,618 in a day to reach 3,29,45,907 while the number of active cases touched 4,05,681 following an increase for the fourth consecutive day, according to the Union Health Ministry data on Saturday.

The deaths climbed to 4,40,225, with 330 more people succumbing to the viral disease, it added.

They close their counter so early. I had internet issues so I couldn’t check In online . I would have made the flight but their counter was closed 5 minutes before we arrived. Cathay Pacific seems to be an airline in trouble and on its way out. Lots of broken or poorly functioning things like entertainment screens, seats, and enough well trained staff to handle a full flight. Sad...

In flight entertainment system including wifi were down and passengers got tortured for the 16 hours flight without any of these. Food was spoiled as well for the first meal provided but second meal was Ok. Overall a horrible experience which was not at all expected for such a long haul flight which was expected to be THE most memorable part of my planned trip for family.

My first course flight (Aor-Kul) was cancelled in the morning, and they asked me to board the night flight hence I need to transit overnight for the 2nd flight (Kul-Myy) that supposed to be on the same day. The overnight stay was not provided, (I'm traveling with my spouse, a daughter (5 y.o.) and an infant (2 months old). Hence I booked Sama Sama Hotel at my own expense (fortunately using my enrich miles points). Other than this issue, all services is good.

My experience with the flight was okay. My experience checking in was absolutely terrible. I was told I needed to change my e-ticket number to check in because I missed my flight in PDX. Even when shown the itinerary, they didn't budge and sent me to KLM across the airport. KLM wasn't open until 8pm and my flight was at 7:30pm. Nobody made accommodations in any way to get me to KUL. To add insult to injury, they rescheduled my flight to the very next day, creating a very long layover and did not offer any hotel stay. After this, even worse, I found out later they delayed the first 7:30pm flight to 9:10pm. Meaning, I could have still boarded but they refused to even try to get me on the plane. As a result, I missed a day of work and lost pay for the day. Also, when I went to get my luggage, it wasn't there. It was STILL in Singapore. They had from 5:30pm to 5am to get my luggage onto the plane and they still couldn't get that right. This is the worst experience I've had flying anywhere in the past decade I've been travelling.

Second time flying on AirAsia. They’re fine for a low cost carrier, so I don’t expect high level hospitality. They could have informed us that the flight would be delayed even if by a few minutes, instead of the passengers asking the gate agents why we’re not boarding 8 minutes before takeoff. And given some of the passengers on this particular flight were problematic, the crew did great handling such people.

We had 2 attempts to land at Singapore Changing during a thunderstorm. Everything was delayed by 1 hour plus.

Boarding was not accordingly after front seat, bmf then back seat. This delayed for at least 40mins or more. The staff at Jakarta can do better. Is chaos at the entry to board the plane. This tarnished Scoot reputation when everyone was talking about it.

The crew was not customer oriented at all, even confrontational . The aircraft needs more attention to detail as far as comfort, and the 1 hour sitting at the gate with no air is inexcusable

We were delayed, but there was never any update given. Everyone was standing at the gate as boarding was supposed to commence at 13:10 for a 13:55 flight. We didn't actually start getting on the shuttles to the plane, until after 14:00. No updates, no information given at all.

Scoot refused to change my flight even though I had booked a flexible ticket. MyTrip wanted to charge me an extra $271 for a ticket that was only listed as $217. I complained about this to scoot and they didn't give a shite. So never again will you be getting money from me Scoot. You can Scoot off.

I can go on and on.  When I first visited some parts of South India during our Kerala blog express trip, I was really mesmerized.  It was definitely one of my most memorable trip, especially seeing elephants, deers and other animals in the wild. Yes, unknown to many Filipino tourists,  India has a plethora of protected national parks where you can catch a glimpse of tiger, elephants, wild buffalo, deer, rhinoceros, etc. living in the wild.  I hope to return to India in the near future, and explore more destinations.

So, how do you apply for the India Visa? But don’t worry, applying for an Indian visa is not as hard as it looks, compared to other countries requiring a visa, you don’t need tons of documents to submit.  Without further ado, here’s my India Visa Blog.  I wrote here the India Visa requirements and application for tourists to help you prepare. I decided to blog this since some readers are still confused, I am still getting inquiries about my old visa blogpost.

The  India E-Visa

The India E-Visa or the ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization) replaced the India Visa on Arrival. That means, Filipino tourists and other foreigners that will be traveling to India needs to apply online for an Indian visa or E-visa prior to their India trip. So please disregard my old blogpost for India Visa on Arrival, this is the new process.

There are 5 categories for the Indian E-Visa:

• E-Tourist Visa
• E-Business Visa
• E-Medical Visa
• E-Medical Attendant visa
• E-Conference Visa

For this India Visa blog, I will only discuss the details for the Indian E-Tourist Visa Requirements and Application process .

There are 3 types of India E-Tourist Visa and the visa fees varies depending on the visa:

1 Month India E-Tourist Visa:

  Validity: 30 Days (1 month)

Entries: Double Entry, non-extendable, and non-convertible

Visa Fee: $25 (approximately ₱1,268, SGD 34, MYR 103, AUD 37)

  This type of Indian E-Visa for tourists is valid for 30 Days (1 Month) and for double entry, meaning you can enter India twice, however, it is non-extendable or non-convertible. So, if you plan to extend your stay in India for more than 30 days or to apply for a regular India Tourist Visa after 30 days, you can’t do that if you have this type of India visa .

1 Year India E-Visa:

  Duration: 365 Days (1 Year) from the date of grant of ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization)

Entries: Multiple

  This type of India E-Tourist Visa is valid for 365 days or 1 year and you can enter India multiple times in a year. This is great if you plan on traveling to India a couple of times in a year.

5 Years India E-Visa:

Duration: 5 years from the date of grant of the ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization)

IMPORTANT: Even if you apply for the 1 Year or Five year of Visa, take note that you shall not exceed 90 days in India.

The only citizens allowed to stay in India for over 90 days are from USA, UK, Canada, and Japan, but they should not stay for over 180 days.

INDIA VISA REQUIREMENTS

What are the India Visa requirements for Filipinos tourists (Philippine Passport Holder)? Unlike other tourist visa for other requirements, you’ll be glad to know that there are only a few requirements for the Indian E-tourist visa.  Take note that the following requirements should be in digital files as you need to submit them online:

Scanned Copy of Your Passport Bio Page (PDF file):

Photo (jpeg file):.

Important: Do not crop your Passport image and upload it as your photograph.  You can have your photo taken at photography shops for less than ₱100, to make sure it’s clear. Then you can ask for a digital copy (if they allow it) or just scan it. Your India visa application can be denied if the photo you upload is not clear as specified.

Required Information:

•   Entry Point (Entry Airport or Seaport)
• Hotel Address and Contact Number
• Travel Dates

INDIAN VISA APPLICATION PROCESS

1. ENSURE THAT YOU ARE ELIGIBLE FOR AN E-VISA :

  You are visiting India for the purpose of tourism only (e.g. vacation, sightseeing, visiting friends or relatives).

Citizens of Southeast Asian countries like the Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, and East Timor are eligible for an India E-Visa.  Australia, Japan, South Korea passport holders are also eligible for the Indian Tourist Visa.

Your passport should have at least 6 months validity from the intended date of departure from India and have at least 2 blank pages for India Immigration stamping.  So, for the duration of your stay in India, your passport should still be valid for at least 6 months.

2. MAKE SURE THAT YOUR ENTRY AND EXIT POINTS IN INDIA ACCEPTS INDIA TOURIST E-VISA

  Before applying for an Indian E-visa, make sure you will enter India and exit India at the airport or seaport that accept India Tourist E-Visa.  Double check your airplane ticket or cruise ticket.

If you are departing India, take note that these are the only airports in India that accepts E-visa. So you can only exit at these India airports:

3. PREPARE THE REQUIRED INDIAN VISA DOCUMENTS

  Complete the requirements for the Indian Visa, as I stated above, you need the following:

• Scanned copy of your passport bio page (your photo and personal details should be clear)
• Recent Photo (2×2 photo, front-facing, white background, no glasses, JPG file)
• Other  Requirements:
• Make sure that you also have the following information because you will need to input this on the Indian E-Visa application form online, but you don’t necessarily need to book the flights and hotels, you can do that once your India visa is approved already:
• Entry Point (Entry Airport or Seaport)

4. APPLY FOR THE INDIA E-VISA ONLINE

  Once you’re done preparing your Indian visa requirements and you are sure that you are eligible for the India E-Tourist Visa, you can now apply online at  Indianvisaonline.gov.in  

Important: You can do it yourself (DIY), or if you’re not comfortable applying for an Indian Visa yourself online, you can ask for assistance (with a fee) from travel agencies nearest you or there are many travel agencies online. But since I wrote this India E-visa guide for you, I hope it helps.

5. MAKE YOUR PAYMENT

  After completing the form, you will need to choose a payment option.  There are 2 options so far: SBI e-pay or Axis Bank.

SBI e-pay is the payment aggregator service of the State Bank of India. They have multiple payments options and accepts International Cards (debit and credit cards) issued by Visa, Maestro, and Mastercard, both with or without 3D secure authentication. You can also pay via PayPal if you opt for SBI e-pay.

Meanwhile, Axis Bank facilitates online payments with Visa, Maestro, and Mastercard.

6. WAIT FOR YOUR INDIA E-VISA

You can check your e-mail after 72 hours for the status of your Indian E-tourist visa. So make sure that your e-mail is correct. You should be able to use the visa within 120 days from the date it was issued.  Please also double check your India visa status HERE  , make sure it is stated as GRANTED before your travel to India.  If you have further questions, you may contact the E-visa helpdesk at: [email protected] .

7. PRINT YOUR INDIA E-VISA

You need to print the India E-visa and show it at the Immigration upon your arrival in India.

INDIA VISA FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

What are the reasons for the Indian visa rejection?

While I am not in the position to answer this, as I don’t work in the embassy, the decision is up to them, but some of the possible reasons are:

• Incorrect information
• Submitted requirements did not meet the specifications (e.g. photo not clear, scanned bio page is not clear)

So make sure your submitted requirements are correct and clear.

How long will it take to process the Indian E-visa?

The India E-visa processing may take 72 hours or more. You will be informed of your visa status (approved or rejected) via e-mail. So make sure you provide the correct e-mail address.  You may also check your visa status HERE. 

How early can I apply for an Indian E-visa?

  You may apply online minimum of 4 days in advance of the date of travel, however, to avoid inconvenience, best to apply a few weeks before your intended travel date. The Indian E-tourist Visa is valid for 120 days, so don’t earlier than that.

Can I reprint my India E-visa since I lost it?

  Yes, you can. Visit this page.    But you will need your Port of Arrival (the one you indicated on your application form), Application ID, Date of Birth, and Passport Number.  So I would suggest you write down your visa application number.

Do I need to book my flights and hotel to apply for an India visa?

If you are applying for a 1 month India E-tourist visa, you don’t need to book your flights and hotel yet.  You can do that after your visa is approved.  But take note that the airline in the Philippines and the Immigration in the Philippines and India requires a return or onward ticket.  So make sure you book your return of onward flights prior to your trip.  The Immigration might also ask you for your hotel bookings and places that you will visit, so make sure you have a sample itinerary.

Do I need a travel insurance?

A travel insurance is not required, but I recommend you get one for your peace of mind and safety. It’s affordable. I usually pay around ₱1000 – ₱1,500. You can apply online or visit the nearest travel agency.

Do I need a Yellow Fever Vaccine?

The Yellow Fever Vaccine is only required for citizens of Yellow Fever affected countries or travelers arriving from these countries.  They must carry a Yellow Fever Vaccination Card at the time of arrival in India, otherwise, they will be quarantined for 6 days upon arrival in India. If you are coming from the Philippines, Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, or other Southeast Asian countries, you are not required to bring one.

INDIA VISA TIPS AND REMINDERS

• A bank account and flight and hotel bookings are not required when applying for an Indian E-Tourist Visa, however, the Immigration Officer might ask you about your budget, itinerary, hotel bookings, and return or onward flights.  A return or onward flight is required when leaving the Philippines, so once your India visa is approved, book your roundtrip flights and hotels.
• Your biometric will be mandatorily captured at Immigration upon arrival in India.
• You must travel on the Passport which you have applied for Indian Visa. Entry will be allowed into India on the new passport even if the India E-tourist Visa has been issued on the old passport, however, you must bring the old passport on which the India Visa was issued.
