Almost a year to the day after the release of his fourth solo album (and the third with Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators) Living the Dream, which was preceded by Guns’N’Roses getting back together and a nearly 18-month solo tour, Slash set out to prove two things: firstly that he never rests and secondly that lack of sleep does not affect his on-stage performances. This is reflected in this live album Living the Dream Tour, recorded on February 20 th 2019 at the Eventim Apollo in London. We find nearly two hours of concert material which gives prominence to the man in the hat’s entire solo discography. Though while Living in the Dream takes the lion’s share, Slash also offers a wonderful retrospective of his career, making this album feel like a best-of live record. The production, which is clear and precise without being clinical, highlights the group’s energy and transcribes the atmosphere of the brilliant concert. Slash does not hesitate to stretch out his songs (World on Fire lasts 17 minutes and Anastasia for 9!), whether to talk to his audience or offer up flowing solos, making you feel as though you are really there in the sweaty London concert hall. A must-have for anyone who would like to discover Slash’s recent career or immerse themselves in the frenzied atmosphere of his concerts. © Théo Roumier/Qobuz

SLASH FEATURING MYLES KENNEDY AND THE CONSPIRATORS

Living the dream tour, track listing:.

Slash is a household name to the same extent as GUNS N' ROSES is. Simply put, the man who is inextricably linked with the image of his black top hat and face-concealing long, curly hair is one of the greatest figures in the history of rock 'n' roll. The living legend is back in the spotlight with "Living The Dream Tour" , a DVD/CD combo that was culled from his band's early 2019 London performance. The show that's captured is a two-hour set of tracks from all four of Slash 's solo albums, entailing go-to numbers like "Call Of The Wild" , "Back From Cali" , "World On Fire" and "Anastasia" . What matters most is that the release is captivating because it truly pulls listeners in, to the point that one almost feels like they're attending the show because the recording encompasses all of the details, warts and all.

As much as the iconic guitarist proves himself with a reliably impressive performance, vocalist Myles Kennedy proves his worth with his dramatic take on classic and timeless rock. The rest of THE CONSPIRATORS — including drummer Brent Fitz , bassist/vocalist Todd Kerns , and guitarist/vocalist Frank Sidoris — offer stellar contributions, but there's no doubt that they essentially serve as the foundation upon which Slash and Kennedy have the opportunity to shine. And the duo most certainly capitalizes on what is clearly Slash 's most succinct solo offering yet; one that eschews the admirably adventurous yet meandering expressions that were abundant on his earlier solo material.

"Living The Dream Tour" , the first release since Slash actually rejoined GUNS N' ROSES , is chock-full of his signature, sensual, hard-hitting groove and one-of-a-kind solos that hang for days upon extended notes. It's enjoyable, and, at times, desirably reminiscent of GUNS N' ROSES ' debut — most notably on the grimy track "Boulevard Of Broken Hearts" — yet it is simply too safe. The Slash that we know and love is supposed to be unhinged and chaotic. Perhaps that's an unfair desire from the fanbase's vantage point, but then again it makes sense considering the core nature and value of the artist that was clearly established decades ago.

For longtime GUNS N' ROSES diehards, "Living The Dream Tour" will be an overdue quenching of the thirst for that band's classic, early work. The style and sound has been repurposed through modern aesthetics, as with the contemporary yet timeless "Slow Grind" and "Serve You Right" , predominantly attributable to Slash 's more mature station in life. So, invariably, there is less excitement compared to what Slash initially offered in GUNS N' ROSES ' early days. But even then, "Living The Dream Tour" is a tasteful hard rock effort that's clearly head and shoulders above the competition.

Slash Reveals the Artist He Most Regrets Not Appearing on His Blues Album, ‘Orgy of the Damned’

S lash’s upcoming solo blues album, Orgy of the Damned , features an impressive lineup of guest artists. The record, which will be released on May 17 includes appearances by such famous singers as AC/DC’s Brian Johnson, Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler, Iggy Pop, Chris Stapleton, The Black Crowes’ Chris Robinson, ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons, Bad Company’s Paul Rodgers, and Demi Lovato.

Even with all that star power, the Guns N’ Roses guitarist revealed in a recent interview with German rock radio station Rock Antenne that there was one artist he particularly regrets wasn’t able to contribute to the album.

[Buy Slash Concert Tickets]

“Well, the biggest one, really, the one that bums me out was [late Motörhead frontman] Lemmy [Kilmister],” Slash said. “That was because there was a moment there where [I thought], ‘F—, man, Lemmy would be great.’ And I still haven’t gotten used to the fact that he’s not here, ’cause I’m so used to him being there.”

Lemmy died on December 28, 2015, from complications of multiple health ailments. He was 70.

Slash told Rock Antenne that there were a few others artists who he also wanted include in the project, but he “couldn’t contact until after the record was done.” He added, “[O]ther than that, everybody that I thought of were there.”

Why Slash Titled His Blues Album Orgy of the Damned

The Rock Antenne interviewer joked that when he heard the album’s title, he thought, “It’s cool, Slash is finally doing a death metal record.” He then asked why the guitar legend decided to call the album Orgy of the Damned .

“It’s the only title I came up with,” he admitted. “It was just because blues and rock ‘n’ roll have always been considered taboo and devil’s music and all that kind of stuff. And it’s ‘hide your kids from that,’ you know? And I wasn’t raised to think that, but I know society at large has always had that kind of attitude towards it, but of blues especially.”

[RELATED: Slash Reveals How a Cold Call to Chris Stapleton Spurred One of the Best Ideas of His Career]

He continued, “So when I thought about having a collaborative thing with all these different artists doing a blues record … Orgy of the Damned , right? It seemed so obvious to me.”

More About Orgy of the Damned

Orgy of the Damned features mostly covers of blues or blues-rock songs, although it also features renditions of two R&B hits—Stevie Wonder’s “Living for the City” and The Temptations’ “Papa Was a Rolling Stone.”

So far, Slash has released two advance tracks from the record. The first was a rendition of Howlin’ Wolf’s “Killing Floor,” featuring Johnson lead vocal and Tyler playing harmonica. The second was a cover of the Peter Green-era Fleetwood Mac classic “Oh Well,” featuring vocals by Stapleton.

Orgy of the Damned can be pre-ordered now .

Slash’s 2024 Tour Plans

After wrapping up a European trek with his side group Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators on with April 29 in Paris, Slash will launch his own blues-themed U.S. tour called the S.E.R.P.E.N.T. Festival . The outing will kick off June 5 in Bonner, Montana, and is mapped out through an August 17 show in Grand Prairie, Texas.

Slash will be joined on the trek by a variety of artists, including Warren Haynes Band, Keb’ Mo’, Larkin Poe, Christone “Kingfish” Ingram, Samantha Fish, Robert Randolph, and Eric Gales.

Tickets for Slash’s tour dates are available now via various outlets, including StubHub .
