Tobacco Road took every idea that Strantz had been developing to that point in time (1999) and put it all in one place, specifically an old mining site of sand and pine 25 miles north of Pinehurst. The property is the secret star—yes, there are Strantzian trademarks like boomerang-shaped par 5s, greens and fairways notched blindly behind dunes, dramatic risk/reward shots played over deep chasms and putting surfaces stretched into stringy silly putty shapes. But without the elevation changes, depressions and contrasting textures of the rugged sand barrens, this would be True Blue 2.0. It’s much more than that: a master class in decision-making and composition that sits among the top 50 on the Golf Digest America’s 100 Greatest Public Courses ranking, a placement that’s at least 20 spots too low, at least in the mind of this editor.

100 GREATEST/BEST IN STATE SCORES

Shot options, layout variety, conditioning.

“Fun course to play with many challenging shots. Several holes have risk/reward tee shots which can be challenging for higher handicap players. Lots of opportunities for birdies if you hit good shots."

“Extremely polarizing and extremely fun, Tobacco Road is perhaps Mike Strantz's best known design. Located near Pinehurst in North Carolina, this is a perennial top 100 public course in America for good reason - the variety, shot values, and fun are extremely high here. The architecture here is extremely bold and should be experienced at least once."

“Unique. That’s the best word for the golf course that needs to be seen and played to be believed, and even then it’s tough to understand! Mike Strantz basically was given carte blanche to design whatever he wanted and the greens/slopes/layout reflect that. The course at times borders on gimmicky but you will not be disappointed if you show up with an open mind!"

“This is such a fun course. To really enjoy it you should play with someone who has been there before or do replay the course the same day. You will want to come back another day to try it with different pin positions. The course is shorter but you should still move up a set of tees unless you are an elite player."

“This is a love it or hate it course, but I look forward to playing here every time. This is a must play for any Sand Hills golf trip, even if you are staying at the Pinehurst resort."

“Tobacco Road tends to generate strong opinions -- I'm in the "love it" camp. The boldness of the designs and some of the hazards makes the course tremendous fun, yet the golfer can avoid most of the trouble by playing smart. Has many blind shots and unusual features that you won't see on other courses. One of my favorites."

“One of the most unique courses anywhere. Amazing creativity and character, a must play. Visually intimidating, but fair."

“Golf on acid."

“You'll love it or hate it. No two holes are really alike and on some, the only thing missing is a windmill and a clown's mouth. Lots of blind shots and forced carries; a miss into the hay is stroke and distance. Good challenge, not so much on the fun scale."

“The place to play on a Pinehurst area golf trip if the desire is to play something different. Tobacco Road gives a totally different look and style than any other course in the area."

“Big, bold, unique and a must-see. Mike Strantz build an incredibly unique golf course that is very fun for a single-digit level golfer. Risk-reward decisions abound. Personally, this is a must-play when near Pinehurst."

“This is not your typical golf course. If you're expecting a typical championship course than this is not your place, but if you want to have a fun day at the course with blind shots and holes you've never seen before than this is your place."

“The most fun I've had on the golf course. Not only is the course awesome but the ambiance of the place is so fitting with the quirkiness of a Strantz course. To top it off, the staff and pace of play were both great."

“We lost Mike Strantz too soon. He was the most innovative contemporary architect to ply his trade. TR is a ride on the wild side. If you like unconventional and courses that will leave you scratching your head, this course is for you."

“One of the more interesting courses that you will ever play. Mike Strantz was really a genius."

“This quirky, short course is a must play in the Pinehurst area. A number of blind shots so be sure you buy a guide book for the course. Voted in the top 50 courses in the US by golf architects!"

ABOUT THE COURSE

Tobacco Road Golf Club was built on land tended by the weather-worn hands of tobacco farmers, later shaped and moved through mining and sand excavation before finally being crafted and molded by an artist’s imagination and the revolutionary eye of the late Mike Strantz. When Tobacco Road was little more than a walking path through an expended sand quarry, Strantz said he “knew immediately it could be something not only spectacular, but also unique.”

grading-of-new-tobacco-road-golf-course

Established in 1998, Tobacco Road is younger than many of the courses it has surpassed in its accumulation of accolades. Architect Mike Strantz was a student of the Golden Age Architects whose turn of the century designs set the standards while contributing to the development of the principles of golf course architecture and design. The seamless incorporation of Golden Age “conventional features,” like the elegant arc of a fairway set against the contrast of a sandy waste area, with the bolder design features most often seen on the British Isles, are where Strantz showcased his true artistic talent.

crew-working-on-tobacco-road-golf-course

Strantz found his canvas, not on the sea side cliffs of the British Isles but rather in the remnants of a sand quarry in the Sandhills of North Carolina. He allowed the rolling terrain to evolve into one of golf’s most uncompromising designs. Beyond the panoramic views and stunning vistas lies a course that tests all of a player’s faculties. Five sets of tees allow a player to undertake the course at a level worthy of their skill; however, one should always keep in mind – it was Strantz’s goal to test “a player’s eye, determination, and wits.”

The original tee locations marked only by memory of the select few who knew the way. Staff members, and regulars to The Road, were among the first groups to define the routing for our newest installation, El Camino. The once hidden loop, El Camino, created for the experience is a short course compilation of innovative angles, the character of variety, and the call for execution was developed throughout our history. El Camino, now open for all players is a dynamic routing that embodies the spirit of Strantz, and is a true test of the one-shotter.

Whether you have played a course 20+ times a year or looking to play the course for the first time, insights from an insider can help enhance your golf experience. Below is an interview with Joe Gay who shares some valuable tidbits about the course, memorable holes and must eats and treats at the 19th. Give Our Readers An Overview of the Golf Course/Property Tobacco Road is a nationally ranked thrill ride of a golf course that is built in an abandon sand quarry by the late Mike Strantz. Using the sand features left by 50 years of excavating, Strantz strategically moves you through and over sand formations during this artistic journey. If Someone Was Looking To Golf In The Area, Why Should They Play Your Course? Every destination claims to have a "must play" course. In the golf rich, historic Village of Pinehurst Area, there are many courses that you should play but only one course you have to play. Tobacco Road is "that" course! What Tips or Local Knowledge Would You Provide To Help Them Score Better At Your Course? The architect at Tobacco Road certainly used intimidation to challenge the golfer. Know your limitations and keep the ball in front of you. Don't hesitate to give up distance off the tee by hitting a fairway metal or hybrid club to hit the fairways. Distance is not a premium, accuracy is. Recent Awards or What You Are Most Proud About The Course? Tobacco Road is two for two in arguably the two biggest ratings lists: Top 100 places to play in America in Golf Digest & Golf Magazine. What Is The Signature, Most Talked About, or Most Photographed Hole? There are truly 18 of them..........but if I were pressed on the subject, I'd say the 18th has it all: Tee shot overlooking massive sand pit, lush fairway flanked on both sides by love grass covered bluffs, semi-blind approach into multi-tiered green set into embankment. What Is Your Favorite Hole? Any Tips to Play It? My personal favorite is the 16th. To me, it summarizes the whole course. It is visually stunning, it looks impossible, yet it yields more birdies than one would expect. Must Have Dish or Drink after the round at the 19th Hole? Can you not have both? You're in the South and our pork BBQ is second to none. Yes, you need to eat it with slaw! The beer is cold and tends to calm the nerves. Who Holds Course Record and What Was Their Score? 50 Words or Less

Located in Sanford, North Carolina, Tobacco Road is a golf course that isn’t afraid to take it to eleven.  A big, wild layout with loads of opportunities to hit memorable shots.  Huge replay value.

tobacco road pga tour

Introduction

When I took my first trip to Pinehurst, my good friend and golf travel expert Mitch Laurence [follow him HERE ] asked me, “Did you play Tobacco Road?”  I hadn’t planned to leave the resort, so I answered in the negative.  His disappointment practically reached through my phone’s screen, so on my most recent trip to North Carolina, I made it a point to visit.  While I absolutely love Pinehurst, this a side trip that I’d recommend to any golfer who loves big, imaginative course design.  Thanks, Mitch.

Practice Facilities

The practice facilities at Tobacco Road are solid.  The wooden bag stands actually fit the feel of the place rather than feeling artificially cutesy.  At least two foursomes can fit on the driving range, and there’s no limit to how far you can hit it.

A practice putting green can be found near the first tee, and it does an excellent job approximating what you’ll see on the course.  It’s big enough to practice your lag putting, and it gives you the chance to get a feel for the big breaks you’ll encounter.

Customer Service & Amenities

The vibe of Tobacco Road gets communicated the minute you pull onto the property, in part through the clubhouse.  It has a warm, rustic feel that emits hospitality but also a certain “love it or leave” vibe .  The customer service is excellent, and everyone we interacted with was friendly, but this place also knows that it’s really good and doesn’t need to go overboard.

Inside the clubhouse, there’s a snack shop, a well-stocked pro shop, and an area for lounging after your round.  You can also grab one of the rocking chairs on the porches to watch golfers tee off or finish their rounds.

tobacco road pga tour

Beauty & Scenery

Tobacco Road is a big, wild, beautiful golf course.  If you hate residential golf and prefer your courses carved out of the wilderness, this may be your new favorite spot.

tobacco road pga tour

While the condition of the fairways, greens, and tee boxes are pristine, Tobacco Road feels like a course where they leave as much of the wild as possible .  You can see it above in the native grass growing around the bunkers.  That also comes through in the angles and oscillations that feel natural and rugged, never contrived.

tobacco road pga tour

The other thing that must be mentioned is the scale of this place.  It’s a course that feels enormous .  The mounds make you feel insignificant.  Though many of the greens are large, they’re dwarfed by giant stretches of sand.  This scale adds to the untamed feel of Tobacco Road.

While we’re discussing scale, it should be noted that the flyover animations on the website do this course no justice.  They’re very well done, but the minute you step onto the first tee box, you’ll realize that they prepared you about as well as playing Punch Out would prepare you for fighting Mike Tyson.

tobacco road pga tour

I also want to mention the tee and hole markers.  They’re all old school farming and earth moving tools, and they add to the course’s unique personality.

As you can see in my photos, it was raining the day that I played Tobacco Road, so thanks to Martha Hudson of Tobacco Road Golf Club for providing the professional photos seen here.

tobacco road pga tour

When I picked up the scorecard at Tobacco Road, my eyes were immediately drawn to the range of yardages.  At par 71, the course can stretch to over 6,500 yards or go as low as 4,300 .  I love a course that lets the shorter hitters play.  It’s also worth noting that, given the extreme elevations on the course, the yardages on the card do not tell nearly the whole story.

Moving from the scorecard to the tee box, the theme at Tobacco Road is shots that are not as challenging as they look.  The picture above is a great example: the forced carry up and over a wall looks terrifying, but it’s not actually that long (if you pick the right tees) and it’s wide open beyond that narrow mouth.  All that said, getting past the visual challenge is easier said than done .

tobacco road pga tour

One part of the aforementioned visual challenge is that you won’t always see the full picture from the tee box .  That can take the form of  blind shots, mounds that obscure parts of the fairway, or on the memorable #13, a line that you have to know in advance.  You’ve got to be able to commit to your shot and trust your driver rather than steering the ball.

Overall, the tee shots at Tobacco Road feel big and adventurous without being brutally hard.  It’s a combination that’s more focused on fun that “defending par.”

Getting off the tee and into the fairway is probably the easiest part of your round at Tobacco Road.  Your approach is where the real challenge begins.  The difficulty in the approach game begins under your feet .  Take a look above to see an example of how the fairways swell and fall, making flat, even lies a rarity.

tobacco road pga tour

The vast expanses of sand provide the next layer of challenge , though not for the reason you think.  Hitting your drive into them isn’t ideal, but a local rule allows for improved lies, so the sand itself isn’t that hazardous.  What makes the sand, in concert with the native grass and bushes, so tough is that it can destroy your depth perception.  We’re all used to what 150 yards of fairway looks like, but when it’s 150 yards of waste area, we’re not only nervous about getting over it, we also second guess the number.

Finally, there are the elevation changes, angles and obscured views .  There are not many shots at Tobacco Road that don’t involve some amount of elevation change.  That alone will require adjustments and create doubt.

tobacco road pga tour

The doubt will grow when you add in a healthy dose of blind shots and uncomfortable angles.  Above, you see a fairly long approach.  This wouldn’t be a gimme under any circumstances, but also consider that you can’t see how much fairway there is to the right or how much green is available, plus you’re playing over sand and from an unusual position.  It’s fully devious.

In summary, the approach shots at Tobacco Road are going to challenge both your physical and mental game .  Being a good ball striker isn’t enough; you need to be able to fully commit to every shot.

tobacco road pga tour

Greens & Surrounds

The variety of green shapes and sizes may be greater at Tobacco Road than at any course I’ve ever played .  Looking at the green map on the cart, you’ll see depths ranging from 14 to 60 yards.  There are skinny greens, fat greens, horseshoes, circles, and barbells.  And we haven’t even mentioned the contours!  While designer Mike Strantz was certainly not afraid of some big movement in the greens (see above), it’s not all rollercoaster putts, either.  This is a course that is constantly throwing something different at you on the greens.

tobacco road pga tour

Among the larger greens, you’ll find that most are segmented into tiers or divided by a ridge.  This forces you to either be precise with your approach game or a very adept lag putter.  The green speeds at Tobacco Road were quick but fair when I played which put a premium on both speed control and careful reads.

tobacco road pga tour

Tobacco Road was a sand quarry before it was a golf course, so bunkers are large and plentiful around the greens .  Once again, there’s a lot of variety: you can get some benign lies but you can also find some brutally tall lips.

tobacco road pga tour

Finally, I love this collection area .  It would be a nice feature if it was shaved all the way from the green to the bunker, but we’ve seen that before.  Here, the thick rough at the collar has a chance of stopping your ball…but is it really doing you a favor?  You could draw a nasty lie and have to hack it out with little green to work with.  If you do end up in the short grass, you need to suck it up and hit your best flop shot to try to save par.  Unique, tough, and fun.  Tobacco Road in a nutshell .

tobacco road pga tour

Overall Design

The picture above may not tell you what the holes at Tobacco Road are like, but I don’t think there’s a better encapsulation of the vibe.  This place screams, “Let’s get our there, hit some shots, and have a good time.”

tobacco road pga tour

This sign is another good signal of what Tobacco Road is like.  It’s not a prescriptive course, but there are definitely holes where, “Just bomb it out there somewhere” isn’t optimal.  Each time around, you’re going to pick up a couple more nuggets of local knowledge that will allow you to score a bit better.

Finally, I’ll note that if you have an issue with blind shots, this course probably isn’t for you.  I don’t love blind shots, but what makes Tobacco Road fun is that the blind shots don’t typically come with stiff penalties, so they’re a bit of a free roll.

tobacco road pga tour

Favorite Holes

#1 – Par 5 – 558 Yards

This is one of the most fitting opening holes I’ve ever played.  The drive is intimidating due to the two giant mounds, but it’s not too demanding if you can get out of your own way.  Your second shot will be at least partially blind, then you’ll hit a scoring club into a big rollicking green.  Welcome to Tobacco Road.

#7 – Par 4 – 411 Yards

Number seven starts with a blind tee shot to one of the wildest fairways you’ll ever see.  It ripples down to a marshy hazard in massive stair steps that can add enormous distance to your drive.  From there, you have a fairly short approach with a forced carry to a green segmented by dramatic undulations.

#13 – Par 5 – 573 Yards

This is a three shot par 5 unless you know the secret line over the trees.  Muster your courage and blast a drive over the trees on the right to the unseen landing area.  From there, you can have a go at the narrow, heavily protected green.

#16 – Par 4 – 326 Yards

On the card, this looks like a short par 4 that you can almost drive.  In reality, you hit a blind long iron or hybrid over a large berm before turning left for an uphill approach to a two-tiered green.  If the pin is in the front and your approach puts you on the upper tier, concede the hole and move on.

tobacco road pga tour

Architect Mike Strantz said that it was his goal to test “a player’s eye, determination, and wits” and Tobacco Road does that and more.  This is a course that’s immense fun to play, and one that you’re going to want to go around more than once.  If you find yourself in North Carolina, make the trip to Tobacco Road.

Thanks for this review, Matt. I played Tobacco Road about 15 years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it despite being a golfer who doesn’t really embrace holes with blind shots. Of course, it was one of those days when I was hitting it well and scoring, so that always helps! Yeah, that first tee shot evokes a “wtf” initial feeling, then you let it rip. The feelings about the course varied within our group. Some of us loved it….others, not so much, but I agree with you wholeheartedly, it is worth the trip. Sadly it was one of the last rounds of golf I played with a dear friend and golf buddy who died tragically a few years later. I hope to play Tobacco Road again – and may my buddy and Mike Stranz, RIP. Again, thanks for bringing back a great memory.

Really Pretty Course!

' src=

I’ve played 6 of Mike Strantz’s courses. Tobacco Rd is definitely a roller coaster with a terrifying start. My favorite course of his though is Tot Hill Farm which is not to far from Tobacco.

' src=

Strantz built a masterpiece! The only disappointment you’ll find is walking off the 18th green because you’ll want more, much more. 18 holes is not enough. For you first timers who complain the are too many blind shots and the greens are too undulating, play it again. A little course knowledge goes a long way. Treat yourself and play TR. Unlike any other golf course!

' src=

Tobacco Road is on my short list of the best courses I’ve played. The vistas and the beauty of the natural areas are stunning.

A WORD OF CAUTION: returning to Pinehurst there is a sped trap on the main road in Sanford. The speed limit is abruptly reduced. I was behind a large truck and missed the sign. They require you to appear in person or hire an attorney to represent you. A painful and expensive way to end a day of wonderful golf.

' src=

Thanks for the thorough and thoughtful review. I can’t wait to play it.

' src=

Played it twice. My favorite course. Every hole is insane. Never seen a course like it. Strantz is a genius.

' src=

Thoroughly enjoyed the course. Not traditional by any means, but very playable and fun. In very good condition.

' src=

Tobacco road is wonderful only complaint is too expensive for the low income people who love the game. But are unable to play . When they first opened we would play at least three times a month with twenty golfers now I hadn’t played there in ten years. But good for the rich. but nevertheless it’s beautiful

' src=

I was lucky enough to play TR a few years ago. Got talking to one of the ground staff before we went out to play and asked him his thoughts on the course. ‘The guy that designed this was as mad as a hatter and on Acid when he put this together’. He was right…. The four of us went out and played, We had a grin on our faces from the first hole to the last. Absolutely brilliant and great fun.

' src=

Tobacco Road is my favorite golf course on the planet that I’ve actually played. Taken from us way too soon, Mike Strantz shows his out of the box thinking and originality when it comes to design and construction of a golf course with his masterpiece, Tobacco Road. Every trip I’ve made to the Pinehurst – Sand Hills are has included a mandatory minimum 36 holes being played at Tobacco Road. It’s a thinker and a ball striker’s course. Bombers can play it too, but that one asset alone won’t get you as much at the Road as most courses. It’s all right in front of you even if you can’t see a landing area, so quit your complaining about a blind shot and hit the ball. Otherwise, Strantz wins! He’s probably got you in his hands with the opening tee shot on no. 1! Such a blast to play, so go make your memories there just as I have.

Description

Described as “Pine Valley on steroids” and “golf’s rock and roll thrill ride”, Tobacco Road Golf Club is certainly unique. Carving his way through an old sand quarry, Mike Strantz created one of the most celebrated and talked about courses in the world. Consistently rated amongst the nation’s best, Tobacco Road is the one course that leaves you and your golfing friends begging for more. The scene is so breath-taking you will want to bring along your camera to forever capture the greatness of “The Road”. Playing at a length of 6500 yards from the Ripper tees, Tobacco Road was rated as high as second in slope in the Carolinas to the famed Ocean Course at Kiawah Island.

Tobacco Road Review

Tobacco Road Review: A view of the fifth from the fairway.

Tobacco Road Sanford, North Carolina Grade: A+ Teacher’s Comments: Brilliance. Madness. There is a fine line between the two and Tobacco Road teeters on it.

Tobacco Road is one of just nine course designs by Mike Stranz before his untimely death at age 50. It just also might be his most famous. Tobacco Road is always included in the major magazines’ Top 100 lists.

It is hard to describe Tobacco Road, for Stranz bends and breaks so many of the norms of golf course design language and design. I’ve never played anything like it.

Tobacco Road Review: The first at Tobacco Road is a 558 yard par 5.

Tobacco Road is built on the skeleton of an abandoned sand quarry. Holes are routed between towering shoulders of sand, across vast wastes, past steep craggy faces and through labyrinthine canyons. It is wild and raw.

Stranz’s design is not seaside or prairie raw, though. It is industrial raw. The whole of Tobacco Road has a bit of a post-apocalypse feel. Blasting, bulldozers and dump trucks scarred the landscape. Mike Stranz’s design is a reclamation project in a wasteland. Grass on the fairways and greens feel as though they are hanging on for dear life against encroaching wastes. Where other courses plant tidy flower beds for visual interest, Tobacco Road has rusting farm implements.

If George Miller was scouting a location for a Mad Max movie set on a golf course, he would need look no further than Tobacco Road.

Tobacco Road Review: A view of Tobacco Road's sixth from behind the hole. There's a deteriorating shack between the tee and green.

None of this is meant to disparage Tobacco Road in any way. I thought it was wonderful.

The distressed landscape at Tobacco Road gave Stranz the opportunity to create eighteen highly original holes. Not only are no two on the course in any way similar; I doubt any of them has a parallel anywhere else. It isn’t subtle.

Still, Tobacco Road has some consistent themes.

First, there is the sand: vast waste areas sported with natural grasses that come into play on every hole. Often running the entire length of a hole, and frequently interrupting the fairways the wastes are Tobacco Road’s defining characteristic.

The wastes, high dunes and depressions from the mining excavations are visually stunning and often intimidating.

Tobacco Road Review: An aerial view of Tobacco Road

Fairways are in general wide at the landing zones, but pinch in the approach to the green. If you know your target line, there is no real reason to miss the fat part of the fairway. Knowing the target line, however, is the trick.

Finding the line is tough on a first play. Blind shots are everywhere. I did not realize that I could get a forecaddie until it was too late, which left me to study my GPS’ screen intently. It didn’t help much. Get a forecaddie or caddy on the first play at the very least.

Risk and reward is another consistent theme. There seems to be a tempting shot on every hole — a shot that could net a birdie. Or a double bogey. Or just cause you to mark an X and pick up the ball.

Tobacco Road’s signature hole is probably the thirteenth, a dogleg right 575 yard par 5.

The tee shot is downhill, and must clear a waste area of sand and native grasses. From there, it climbs steadily uphill to a green in a crater. There is really no other way to describe the green complex. High mounds of sand guard the front with only a narrow path between; behind is a slope leading up to a road.

The one that haunts my imagination, however, is the par four sixteenth. Part of the outward stretch of fairway on this short dogleg left is sunken below ground level. From the tee, the landing area beyond is completely obscured.

Walking through the path was a bit like passing through a hedge maze.

Once clear of the sunken road, the immense landing zone is revealed. But from there, the battle is less than half won. The second shot is to a green perched at the top of a tall dune.

The tees at Tobacco Road are marked by black wrought iron sculptures, representing various implements used in tobacco farming. It i a neat idea, and one that should have players looking at the yardage rather than just heading to the familiar color. I imagine, though that these will have a habit of disappearing as a memento of a round.

From the tips, Tobacco Road is not particularly long, but that 145 slope warns of much difficulty. With the blind shots, carries and seemingly endless expanses of sand, a bogey golfer would be wise to play it forward.

I visited Tobacco Road in the spring of 2021, but have no idea how to judge the conditions. North Carolina is of course not my usual haunt (this was in fact my first trip to play golf there). I would say, however, that for early spring it seemed quite good. The greens were smooth and when I found the fairway, I had favorable lies.

The Tobacco Road review was published on GolfBlogger.Com on January 13, 2022 from notes and photos taken on a round played in the spring of 2021.

Fun facts from our Moscow Metro Tours:

From the very first days of its existence, the Moscow Metro was the object of civil defense, used as a bomb shelter, and designed as a defense for a possible attack on the Soviet Union.

At a depth of 50 to 120 meters lies the second, the coded system of Metro-2 of Moscow subway, which is equipped with everything you need, from food storage to the nuclear button.

According to some sources, the total length of Metro-2 reaches over 150 kilometers.

The Museum was opened on Sportivnaya metro station on November 6, 1967. It features the most interesting models of trains and stations.

Coffee Ring

The first scheme of Moscow Metro looked like a bunch of separate lines. Listen to a myth about Joseph Stalin and the main brown line of Moscow Metro.

Zodiac Metro

According to some astrologers, each of the 12 stops of the Moscow Ring Line corresponds to a particular sign of the zodiac and divides the city into astrological sector.

Astrologers believe that being in a particular zadiac sector of Moscow for a long time, you attract certain energy and events into your life.

Paleontological finds

Red marble walls of some of the Metro stations hide in themselves petrified inhabitants of ancient seas. Try and find some!

  • Every day each car in  Moscow metro passes  more than 600 km, which is the distance from Moscow to St. Petersburg.
  • Moscow subway system is the  5th in the intensity  of use (after the subways of Beijing, Tokyo, Seoul and Shanghai).
  • The interval in the movement of trains in rush hour is  90 seconds .
