Enduring, eclectic, endlessly appealing – Europe is easy to explore and impossible to forget.

Trying to decide between hiking through rugged wilderness, touring 13th-century churches, and sipping wine in the sun? In Europe you can do it all and do it well. While it might be compact in size, this continent is packed full of remarkably diverse cultures, breathtaking landscapes, and delicious cuisines – and they’re all only a short flight or train ride away from each other. The walkable ruins of Italy will transport you back to a time when the Romans ruled an empire. Sweden’s indulgent national dishes will have your tastebuds begging for more. The natural beauty found in Scotland is guaranteed to ignite the mythical side of your imagination. And that’s only the beginning. From the breezy Mediterranean to the chilly Baltics, our European tours have something for every traveller.

Trips from 1 January 2023 onwards

From 1 January 2023, Intrepid will no longer require travellers to provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19 (excluding all Polar trips and select adventure cruises).

However, we continue to strongly recommend that all Intrepid travellers and leaders get vaccinated to protect themselves and others.

Specific proof of testing or vaccination may still be required by your destination or airline. Please ensure you check travel and entry requirements carefully.

Do you need a visa to travel to Europe?

Whether or not you need a visa to travel to European countries largely depends on the nationality on your passport and whether the country you're travelling to is part of the Schengen Agreement.

This agreement sees 26 European countries offer visa-free travel to nationals from 60 other countries including Australia, the United States, Canada, Japan, and the United Kingdom.

To determine whether the country you're travelling to requires a visa, head to the   Schengen Visa's information website.

What is the internet access like in Europe?

You can easily access the internet in most countries in Europe, generally in capital cities and other major towns. Internet access may be limited in regional locations such as national parks or remote villages in some countries.

Can I use my mobile phone in Europe?

You shouldn't have a problem using your mobile phone while travelling throughout Europe, however, your international data roaming will need to be activated in order to connect to the internet or send messages (unless you connect to the local wi-fi).

What are the toilets like in Europe?

Modern, flushable toilets are the standard in the majority of European countries.

Can I drink the water in Europe?

Tap water in most European countries is considered safe to drink unless it is otherwise marked.

When should I book a tour in Europe?

There is no 'best time' to travel around Europe as most countries offer plenty to do in every season of the year.

T he most popular time to travel to countries like Greece, Italy, and Croatia is during the summer months (June, July, and August) so you can make the most of each country's respective beaches and warm weather.

C ountries such as Iceland, Norway, and Sweden are known for their snowy landscapes and northern lights sightings during Winter (December, January, and February).

How much does a Europe tour cost?

A tour in Europe can vary depending on the countries you want to visit, the style of tour, and how long you want to go for but you can expect to pay anywhere between USD$1,000 to USD$5,000, with most tours around USD$2,500.

Is tipping common in Europe?

Tipping isn't as prevalent in Europe as it is in some other countries and definitely isn't expected, but if you like the quality of service you've been given at hotels, restaurants etc then a tip is always appreciated.

Are credit cards widely accepted in Europe?

While credit cards are accepted in all European countries (especially in capital cities and other larger cities), smaller cafes or local run businesses may not have EFTPOS machines so it's always best to carry around a little cash to cover these expenses.

What is ATM access like in Europe?

You should have no problem finding ATMs in most European cities.

What currency will I need on a Europe tour?

The official currency of Europe is the Euro (€), however, only 19 of the 28 countries in the European Union use this. Countries that still use their own currency include Norway, Switzerland, Belarus, Croatia, Denmark, and Sweden.

Is Europe safe for LGBTQIA+ travellers?

Europe is considered a reasonably safe continent for LGBTQIA+ travellers with plenty of countries openly accepting, welcoming, and embracing the community.

This is evident in large capital cities such as Paris, Berlin, Madrid, and Vienna.

Some countries still hold traditional religious beliefs such as Belarus and Poland so a degree of caution should be taken when travelling around cities and remote regions in those countries.

Will I need a socket adapter for Europe?

If you plan on travelling to multiple countries throughout Europe then purchasing an all-in-one, worldwide adapter is the safest way to go.

I f you don't want to do that, your safest bet is to buy an adapter that uses C or E/F-type plugs as most European countries recognise this.

Do I need to purchase travel insurance before travelling?

Absolutely. All passengers travelling with Intrepid are required to purchase travel insurance before the start of their trip. Your travel insurance details will be recorded by your leader on the first day of the trip. Due to the varying nature, availability and cost of health care around the world, travel insurance is very much an essential and necessary part of every journey.

For more information on insurance, please go to: Travel Insurance

Europe ms1

Irish countryside:

Take in the atmosphere of quaint seaside villages, see awe inspiring views of the Lakes of Killarney and explore the picturesque town of Kinsale. Wherever you travel in the countryside, you’ll find that the rolling hills and friendly people you encounter will become a part of your fabric.

Europe ms2

Ancient cities of Italy:

Italy is positively brimming with the world’s most famous Roman ruins like the Colosseum, Pompeii and many other relics from the ancient past. In fact, many cities in Italy still hold evidence of what once was. You can find an aqueduct, city gate, Roman theater or the ruins of an entire city there.

Europe ms3

Get to know the city that was once considered the capital of the world! A panoramic tour by a local expert leads you to all the most iconic spots in London. See Trafalgar Square, St. Paul’s Cathedral, the Tower of London, Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, Big Ben and many more places you’ve only read about.

Europe ms4

Louvre Museum:

The Louvre Museum holds some of the most priceless treasures in the world. Enjoy touring with a local expert who will take you through an array of works ranging from ancient times to the mid-19th century. Don’t keep the ladies waiting! DaVinci’s famous Mona Lisa and the renowned Venus de Milo await your visit!

Destination Must-Do's

Europe md1

Explore Chateau de Chillon:

Europe has a wide variety of castles to choose from. The exquisite Chateau de Chillon in Switzerland presides over Lake Geneva. Beginning life as a Roman outpost, today it is the nation’s most visited historic site.

Europe md2

Drift down a canal:

While canals are found across Europe, nothing beats a romantic gondola ride in Venice. Locals like to say the best way to explore the city is to ‘get lost.’ So take a ride along these waterways, step off and then wind your way through the intricate blend of bridges, narrow streets and grand squares.

Europe md3

Drink Bordeaux wine:

Just about anywhere you travel in Europe, you’re bound to come across some fantastic wine, especially in Bordeaux in France. Resting on the Garonne River, this charming area is one of the largest wine growing regions on the continent.

Europe md4

Culinary Surprises:

The best way to experience a culture is to eat like the locals. The straightforward food of Great Britain always seems to delight travelers. While Italian food still reigns, you just might have the best meal of your life enjoying a steak and kidney pie or bangers and mash.

Magnificent landscapes combined with the country’s charming traditions and customs offer new experiences unlike anywhere else in the world. Whether it’s the eye-catching architecture of Madrid, the bold Spanish wines, or the shimmering Costa del Sol, this country remains a delight to the senses. Once you experience Spain, you’ll never want to leave and when you do, you’ll always be craving more.

Located on the west coast of Europe adjacent to Spain, Portugal offers breathtaking scenery from seemingly never-ending beaches to breathtaking views from hilltops high above the sea; rich and vibrant cultural experiences from inside museums to its city nightlife or village sidewalks; wildlife and challenging landscapes for the adventure seeker; and romantic sunsets and sand dunes and moonlit sails for the lover in all of us. Wait, we forgot amazing gastronomical pleasures created by Portugal’s food and wines, or perhaps those are also found under lover?! No matter what you seek, when you go, where you look or how long you stay, Portugal offers something every traveller wants and makes it all too easy to get.

Whether it’s old-world traditions and wonderful culture, cuisine, history, fashion or natural beauty, Italy is special to many people for different reasons. Few other countries boast so many legendary cities. There are also many charming hill towns and coastal villages that showcase Italy’s amazing natural beauty. From the big cities to the small towns, there is always something exciting to see in Italy. With so many reasons to visit, the rest is up to you!

A rendezvous with a magnifique experience awaits! As cliché as it sounds, France truly has something for everyone. With over two dozen cities, each with their own nuances of the French culture and contributions to its history, architecture, art and last but not least, the gastronomical delights that the French are famous for throughout the world are yours to explore, experience and fall in love with during your stay. Coast to coast, border to border, there are seemingly endless variations on your French experience to be had. Rolling hills and scenic valleys lined with the fruit of the gods; seaside towns, along sandy beaches with views you just might be sharing with royalty; or maybe snowcapped mountain ranges providing some of the best skiing in the world and an adrenaline rush to match is what you seek. Whatever you decide, France easily makes you feel as if you have stepped out of reality and into the art you learned about and loved since you were a child.

At the heart of Europe, fascinating events of contemporary and more historic times shape today’s Germany - from the fall of the Berlin Wall, to the rise of the Beatles in 1960s Hamburg plus wartime history, picture postcard castles such as Neuschwanstein and medieval cities such as Regensburg. Landscapes range from the Bavarian Alps to the Rhine Gorge and plains of the north. The Hanseatic port of Lubeck provides delicious Marzipan sweet treats, produced there for over 200 years. Whether on a journey on the ‘Romantic Road’ or cruising along the Rhine, a stein of German beer or glass of wine from the Rhine vineyards are a worthy accompaniment to a destination that offers far more than the average traveller anticipates.

Switzerland

Incredible skiing on the Swiss Alps and delectable Swiss chocolate are only two reasons for visiting Switzerland. Located between Austria, France, Germany and Italy, you can get quite a diverse European cultural experience depending on which region of Switzerland you choose. And though the food, music, art and people themselves are very much influenced by their European neighbors, they are all still uniquely Swiss. You will leave with plenty of memories to savor for a lifetime.

Greece has been and always will be a country of undeniable beauty from the coasts of the Mediterranean and Aegean Seas and the bottom of the Vikos Gorge to the top of Mount Olympus. It’s a place grand enough for the Gods and quaint and friendly enough for us mere mortals to stroll along the streets and roam through the countryside while taking in the radiance of the sun and undeniable pleasures of the earth. Did you say romance? Greece awaits your arrival with so many ways to get something started, rekindle something that needs recharging or to kick things into high gear! With the epicurean delights created with a passion and commitment that rivals the country’s beauty, accompanied by the nectar that flows from the vineyards that the God’s so rightfully coveted, what and who’s not to love! Now we don’t condone shedding your clothes and donning a toga but we do understand the temptation might just be hard to resist. Perhaps you might enjoy a tour of the ancient ruins instead, or explore some history in one of the many museums filled with antiquities and creations of the masters. Maybe you’ll find your inner philosopher and find yourself pondering the meaning of life and other worthy subjects as Plato, Socrates, and Aristotle once did. This is only the beginning of the endless wonders you’ll find when you first set foot on Greek soil. Opa!

With its natural beauty, historical assets, location along one of the most important trade routes established decades ago and a diverse and welcoming population, Turkey just might rank in your top 10 list of places you never thought would go but were oh so glad you did! Where can you explore the most archaeological sites in the world where civilizations, empires and historic figures were born – Turkey. Where will you be able to sample the taste sensations created by the fusion of Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cuisines – Turkey. Where are you able to experience some of the best sailing, hiking, mountain trekking, windsurfing and golf in Europe – Turkey. Best of all, where will you wake up to find something new and amazing every day then go to sleep after viewing some of the most incredible sunsets that by whatever you name you choose, there truly must be a God - Turkey.

Ireland tours by province.

Since its inception, Ireland has been made up of four distinct provinces, with each differing in culture, tradition, population, and identity. Here’s our list of noteworthy places in each of the four regions that you will want to consider visiting when you start looking at itineraries of the area. Once you know where you want to go, we’ll help you plan your perfect Ireland tour and navigate all the travel details.

Connacht Tours

The province of Connacht is located in the western area of Ireland. When looking to visit Connacht, plan to see the cities of Galway, Sligo, Ballina, and Westport. On a Connacht tour , you’ll most certainly visit Galway to see its beautiful stone Cathedral, Lynch Memorial, Church of St. Nicholas, Spanish Arch, and Eyre Square. You’ll also want to spend some time in Sligo Bay to explore the scenic town, discover why Westport justifiably earns its title as Ireland’s most liveable town, and cozy up in one of Ballina's traditional pubs, museums, or local restaurants. You might also want to add the famous Kylemore Abbey, founded by Benedictine Nuns who fled Belgium in World War I.

Leinster Trips

The province of Leinster is situated in the eastern/southeastern area of Ireland and has the most counties of any province, even for its smaller size. If you’re planning to visit Leinster, know that you’ll hit some of the more popular counties in Ireland. This smaller province is home to Dublin, Kildare, and Kilkenny. Dublin receives the most overseas tourists of any county in Ireland, primarily due to the city's status as Ireland's largest city. If you’re looking to go on a tour of Dublin , you should add to your list The Guinness Storehouse at St. James's Gate , the Book of Kells at Trinity College, and St Patrick's Cathedral. Be sure to tap into Dublin’s effervescent spirit and head to Grafton Street, where there’s a colorful pub on every corner. Travel to the medieval city of Kilkenny, home of the world's fastest field game, to try your hand at the ancient Celtic sport of Hurling! If you’d like, try to stop in Kildare, the birthplace of Arthur Guinness, a politician and brewer and the founder of Guinness.

Munster Trips

To the south, the province of Munster also includes some pretty famous names. On Munster tours , you should expect to see the cities of Cork, Kerry, Killarney, and Waterford and visit the Cliffs of Moher, Blarney Castle, the Ring of Kerry, and the Dingle Peninsula. Most travelers visit Munster to get a deeper understanding of traditional Irish life. On a tour of Cork, you’ll want to see the Grand Parade and South Mall, along with City Hall and the Opera House. Of course, if you’re in Ireland and already in the area, you’ll probably want to pucker up at Blarney Castle and kiss the famous stone upside down to gain the “gift of the gab.” Explore the magnificent Ring of Kerry, where mountains, valleys, lakes, and sea blend into a breathtaking landscape beyond words. Journey past lush Lakelands and around towering cliffs to appreciate the sweeping sea views of the Dingle Peninsula. Continue through delightful villages like Sneem and cross the peat bogs of the Black Mountains to Moll’s Gap to admire Queen Victoria’s Ladies' View. Head north to take in the 700-foot Cliffs of Moher and breathtaking views of the Clare Coast.

Ulster Excursions and Northern Ireland Tours

Ulster tours in Northern Ireland will visit Belfast, Giant’s Causeway, Londonderry, Omagh, Belleek, the Ulster American Folk Park, and the island of Enniskillen. Visitors tour Belfast to learn about the tumultuous history of the city, its progress, and its current prosperity. You’ll want to make sure to take the time to see the murals across the city indicating the political sentiments of residents. You’ll also want to set aside time to discover the full story of the Titanic at the Titanic Belfast visitor attraction and see the Titanic monument in Belfast. When you visit Ulster on a Northern Ireland tour, one of the main sites to add to your itinerary is the iconic natural landmark known as the Giant's Causeway. It was here that Finn McCool was said to have forged his path to Scotland millions of years ago, and you’ll want plenty of time to walk in his giant footsteps and learn all about this extraordinary wonder. In Londonderry, ensure you see the Gothic Guildhall and the Georgian houses of Shipquay Street. On a visit to Omagh, explore and discover the story of three centuries of Irish emigration at the Ulster American Folk Park. See traditional craftsmen at the Belleek Pottery Visitor Centre, one of the oldest working potteries in the world.

Irish Highlights (Summer, 7 Days)

Best of Ireland – Our friends recommended Trafalgar and it didn’t disappoint! We had a wonderful experience touring all over Ireland. We also had our wedding anniversary and Trafalgar bought a nice present for us. Liam, our tour director, was knowledgeable about every place we were visiting and passing through. He had a wonderful sense of humor and kept the group engaged at all times. We had a great environment. Shane, our driver, made us feel safe throughout the entire trip. Our favorite part of the tour was the Cliffs of Moher! All the extra activities were ideal to know more about Ireland’s culture and history. We had wonderful weather and we were able to enjoy Ireland’s beautiful scenery the utmost.

It was fantastic! Our Travel Manager, James Creegan was excellent. He kept us ontrack the whole tour. Love his accent. Its obvious he is from Dublin. His knowlege of places, history, people, music was outstanding. He took us to a couple places off the beaten which I appreciated very much. We met some nice locals which made the experience even better. I would love to go on another of his tours again! Kris was a great tour bus driver. He made it into places I didn't think possible. He got us to our destinations safely. He and James, are very nice guys. I would go anywhere with James and Kris. I have dreamed about coming to Ireland all my life. This tour met and exceeded my expectations.

The Celtic Voyage - Multi-Day - Small Group Tour of Ireland

This tour was so good! We experienced more of Ireland than the itinerary indicated (because of stops we made along our journey, which I loved!), but never felt rushed. Our guide Diarmuid is such a professional - he provided us with interesting information about the places we stopped and Ireland in general, kept us on schedule with a relaxed demeanor, and is genuinely a very nice person. I've never traveled with a tour group before and this one couldn't have been any better. The Emerald Isle is so beautiful and everyone is so friendly that, even when there was a bit of rain, it was still fun. Many thanks to Mick and Diarmuid (the best!!) for making this a most memorable trip. PS the accommodations were fantastic - especially the breakfasts!

My sister and I booked a tour with Wild N Happy and had an absolute blast! It was such a great experience from beginning to end. Both Michael and Diarmuid were excellent tour guides, giving great insight into the history and folklore of the island. We loved being immersed in the culture and getting to explore the many sights and cities that make Ireland such a dream. We walked away with a deep appreciate and admiration of the country, and we loved that we got a new travel family along the way :) We look forward to booking another tour with Wild N Happy in the future!

The Best Of Ireland Tour

The Best Of Ireland

The tour was great and our tour / bus driver is one of the best. He's extremely knowledgeable about all aspects of Ireland and went out of his way to do extra things that were not on the itinerary. We had plenty of time at all of our stops and loads of free time as well. Thanks Indus for a great time.

5-Day Escape to the South West Small-Group Tour from Dublin

Such an incredible journey through the south of Ireland. Still so much more to see but Dan did an incredible job of giving us all of the history and highlights of the land he is obviously so proud to share. Highly recommend.

What people love about Fully Guided Tours in Ireland

The entire trip was wonderful, very well organized, and satisfying. Peter Flood was an excellent tour guide. He was as knowledgeable as could be, funny, and helpful; and really seems to love what he does.
Small Bus touring is the way to go!
Mike was amazing! We had such a great group of people, Mike was so full of knowledge about the history and culture of Ireland, and it was so laid back. We got to explore each destination at a leisurely pace and enjoyed most evenings checking out the local bars. Highly recommend!

Our small groups guarantee Never more than 26 guests per tour

We always keep our tour group sizes small. That's because we want every guest to get the comfort, space and service they deserve. Although many other companies squeeze in groups of up to 50, even the largest of our tour packages are strictly limited to just 26 guests. That leaves empty seats on the coaches. So why do we limit our tours to such small group sizes? Here are six reasons.

Superior Service

Guests consistently list our small group sizes as a top reason why they would book with us again. See our reviews...

More focus on you

With a smaller group, our tour guides have more time to get to know you and your interests.

We deliberately leave empty seats on our coaches, so you can relax and spread out.

Experience each attraction up-close and personal, with more time to ask questions and see what interests you.

Speedier Check-Ins

Compared with many of our rivals, our smaller group sizes make checking in and out of the hotels a breeze.

More Relaxed Pace

Experience Ireland at your own pace. No rushing to keep up and no waiting around for large groups to assemble.

Good morning

Maindin mhaith

Good evening

Tráthnóna maith

From exploring the rolling hills, to enjoying a pint of Guinness and listening to traditional folk music and Viking tales with the locals, Ireland welcomes you with open arms.

Enjoy Irish folk fun

Soak up Irish folk fun in a Dublin pub, where pints swing and locals sing along, and through a Galway street performance that will have you emptying your pockets into the busker's bucket. When planning a trip to Ireland, we always plan for some spontaneous craic-filled experiences.

Explore Waterford's History

Step into Ireland’s oldest city that has seen everything from Vikings to Victorians. We will discover the legacy of invaders turned settlers, tree-forged swords, towers that still stand tall and the ancient city walls that tried to keep them out.

Journey to the magnificent Cliffs of Moher

The Cliffs of Moher are a natural masterpiece reserved for the best tours of Ireland. Beaten by the Atlantic for 350 million years, these unmanicured cliffs stretch as far as the eye can see. Take in the dramatic scene as wild salt wind whips around you.

Take in Connemara's 'savage beauty'

This romantic and desolate region certainly lives up to the title bestowed upon it by Oscar Wilde. Experience nature unlike anywhere else in the world when you explore the National Park, climb Ireland’s Holy Mountain or stand on the banks of Killary, the country’s largest fjord.

Walk down Grafton Street in Dublin

The energy on Dublin’s Main Street is electric. Meander freely down the road, exploring bustling cafes and shops, stopping occasionally to be wowed by street artist performance or a musician belting out a tune.

Our top 5 things to do in Ireland

Walk through the country’s oldest city and stand on the dramatic Cliffs of Moher. These are just some of the pinch me moments we’ll share with you on our trips to Ireland.

Books of Kells

See the Book of Kells on display at the Trinity College Library in Dublin. The book is a 9th century Latin manuscript that contains the four Gospels of the life of Jesus Christ. It's the world's most famous medieval manuscript and and you'll also get to explore one of the world's most beautiful libraries.

The James Joyce Centre

The Georgian townhouse of the James Joyce Centre will deepen your understanding of one of Ireland's most celebrated writers and the Dublin that inspired him. Peruse art exhibitions, watch documentaries, see a recreation of his living quarters and let Joyce and his works come to life right in front of your eyes.

National Museum of Ireland

A museum with so much to inspire you, it spills into three separate buildings around Dublin. Stroll through their halls and admire the hoards of gold buried in Bronze Age Ireland and skeletons of the native giant elk, now extinct.

Best museums in Ireland

Ancient settlers, celebrated authors, iconic brewers. In Dublin, Trafalgar delves into Ireland’s layers of history and becomes acquainted with the people who have called it home through visits to its many museums.

Dublin coddle

Discover all the favorite ingredients of Irish cooking in one pot with tender potatoes, sausage and onions, cooked slowly in broth. As you mop up this rich and filling stew with rustic bread, you can’t help but feel content.

It’s no secret the Irish have a special place in their hearts for potatoes. This breakfast potato pancake dish is no exception. Soft, creaminess on the inside. Crisp and buttery on the outside. One plate and you'll fall in love too.

As the old saying goes, Guinness tastes better in Ireland. The beautiful dark brew is not known to travel well, making trips to Ireland incomplete without tasting it from a local tap. Better yet, head to the source and have a pint at the Dublin Storehouse.

Best food in Ireland

Ireland knows comfort. Whether it’s in a pot, on a plate or filling a pint, we'll share their national culinary treasures that will warm your heart and fill your stomach.

What to pack for Ireland

People packing for a tour

A portable charger

Entire days filled with exploration are a wonderful part of Ireland travel. Avoid the dreaded low battery by packing a portable charger so you can still capture the day with plenty of battery power on hand.

A water and windproof jacket

An umbrella won’t save you from mist, sea spray or wild Atlantic winds. Pack a water and windproof jacket and you’ll be protected from all weathers.

Waterproof shoes

Rain isn't a rarity here. Heading into the countryside you might find yourself amongst mud and puddles. Bring a pair of gumboots to really feel like a local.

Year round you are likely to need something to keep you warm in Ireland. A scarf has the added bonus of being able to protect your face if things get really chilly.

While we all like a good craic, some lively towns love weekend shenanigans with a boistrousness that can interrupt sleep. Pack a pair of earplugs to ensure you snooze soundly.

Pack for sustainable travel

Consider your environmental impact when you next take a trip and go single-use-plastic-free by packing a reusable water bottle, a steel straw, your own shopping bags and reusable toiletry bottles.

Travel tips for Ireland trips

The length of the guided tour of Ireland you choose plays a big factor in what you can see and do. Before choosing, it's helpful to think about which specific sites you’d like to see on your trip. Ireland is a relatively small country and easy to explore, but it can take some time to get around. On our Ireland tours, you can choose a number of different ways to experience the country according to your interests. Here are some of our favorite places to visit in Ireland.

  • Dublin. St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Ireland’s largest, offers beautiful stained glass windows and a rich history. But don’t miss Dublin Castle, Guinness Storehouse, or Trinity College, either.
  • County Tipperary. The Rock of Cashel is a must-see. This group of ancient buildings on a limestone outcrop above the town of Cashel offer a glimpse into Ireland’s medieval history.
  • County Cork. Blarney Castle, home to the famous Blarney Stone, isn’t the only reason to visit County Cork. Ireland’s largest county is also known for having the country’s best food.
  • County Kerry. This region is home to the Ring of Kerry, a 112-mile coastal route that winds through some of Ireland’s most spectacular scenery. Those views are rivaled in Killarney National Park, which is dotted with lakes and dominated by Ireland’s highest mountain, Carrauntoohil.
  • County Clare. The Cliffs of Moher, offering some of the most purely beautiful vistas in all of Ireland, are the big draw here. You can also check out the traditional music scene in the quaint village of Doolin, not far from the cliffs.
  • County Donegal. The towering Slieve League cliffs, rising nearly 2,000 feet above the Atlantic Ocean, are some of the highest in Europe. You won’t find a better place to snap incredible photos.

In the land of cozy pubs, green landscapes, and rich culture, there’s a lifetime of attractions to explore. Here are some of the top sites to visit in Ireland:

  • Ring of Kerry. One of the most scenic drives in Ireland passes through charming villages and treats you to stunning views of the mountains, lakes, and coastline.
  • Grafton Street in Dublin. A great place to experience Irish culture, this vibrant pedestrian street is home to pubs, cafes, high-end boutiques, and souvenir shops.
  • Glendalough. Located in a beautiful valley surrounded by mountains and lakes, Glendalough is home to an ancient monastic settlement founded in the sixth century by Saint Kevin.
  • The Wild Atlantic Way. The western coast of Ireland is home to some of the Emerald Isle’s most magnificent scenery and is a great way to experience the country’s beauty and diversity.
  • Kilkenny Castle. Originally built in 1195, this historic castle is a beautiful example of medieval architecture and offers stunning views from its ramparts.
  • Cliffs of Moher. This nearly nine-mile stretch of towering sea cliffs is breathtaking when the rushing waves of the Atlantic Ocean crash against the coastline.
  • Dublin Castle. Once the seat of British power in Ireland, the castle is now a popular tourist destination and houses a number of museums and art galleries.
  • St. Patrick’s Cathedral. The largest cathedral in Ireland, and one of the largest in Europe, is known for its beautiful stained glass windows.
  • The Dingle Peninsula. Our trips to the Dingle Peninsula allow you to get to know this incredible part of Ireland, from scenic drives with views of the coastline to the charming, colorful town of Dingle.

Several of our tours will take you from Ireland to Northern Ireland. The island of Ireland is separated into two jurisdictions. The Republic of Ireland is an independent country, while Northern Ireland is part of the United Kingdom. As such, you’ll use the pound sterling (GBP) when you cross over into Northern Ireland. While there is no physical border, it’s important to remember that they are two separate countries.

Some of our favorite activities in Northern Ireland include visiting:

  • Giant’s Causeway.  This jaw-dropping geological site is made up of 40,000 basalt columns formed by volcanic activity more than 50 million years ago.
  • The Titanic Museum. A dramatic tribute located in Belfast, where the famed ship was designed, built, and launched.

The best time of year to go on a tour of Ireland depends on your preferences. The summer months (June to August) are generally the warmest and most popular, but they can also be the busiest and most expensive. The spring (March to May) and fall (September to November) months are less crowded and can offer more affordable prices. Winter (December to February) can be cold and rainy, but it can also be a good time to visit if you want to experience the festive holiday season.

Thanks to the Gulf Stream, Ireland has a temperate climate. Typically, the summers are warm and the winters are mild. No matter what time of year you visit Ireland, be sure to pack a raincoat or umbrella. The weather there can be unpredictable, so it’s always a good idea to be prepared for rain.

  • March, April, and May. Many consider spring the best time to go to Ireland. Ireland’s weather in March includes drizzles of rain and longer days. With spring flowers blooming and Saint Patrick’s Day celebrations in full swing, this is a great time to travel on any of our tours to Ireland.
  • June, July, and August. Summer in Ireland isn’t scorching hot like many other parts of the world. The temperature in August and throughout the summer rarely breaks 70 F. With flora at its greenest, summer is considered one of the best times of year to visit.
  • September, October, and November. Ireland’s fall weather brings mild days in the 50s. With summer tourists home, the lush hills still green, and all top attractions still open, fall comes highly recommended as one of the best times to book any of our Ireland trip packages.
  • December, January, and February. The weather in Ireland is mild compared to many other parts of the world during winter. It rarely snows, and the temperatures in Ireland can reach up to 60 degrees. You will need to pack a coat, but the hearty stews of Ireland taste even better with a chill in the air. Local traditions and fewer crowds make this one of the best times to visit.

One trip isn’t enough to experience all that Ireland has to offer. From visiting rolling sheep-dotted hills to lively centuries-old towns, sunny beaches to vertigo-inducing cliffs, there’s so much to do and see on group tours of Ireland. Some of the most popular activities include:

  • Listening to traditional Irish music. A “trad session”—a loosely organized, sometimes impromptu live performance—at an old-fashioned pub is the best way to go.  Our favorite pubs in Ireland  will do the trick.
  • Driving the Wild Atlantic Way.  True to its name, this winding, 1,550-mile route along Ireland’s western coastline is rugged and untamed. But the  Wild Atlantic Way  has more than just scenic views. Between long stretches of natural splendor are little clifftop villages and seaside towns and cities that offer a window into the Irish way of life.
  • Walking along the Cliffs of Moher. Offering uninterrupted views of the Aran Islands from hundreds of feet above the Atlantic Ocean, these cliffs are a longtime favorite among travelers who have gone on our tours.
  • Learning how to pour the perfect pint. A visit to the Guinness Storehouse in Dublin involves more than enjoying a pint of Ireland’s favorite beer. You can also learn the six-step ritual for pouring a Guinness, including what type of glass to use and the perfect temperature for pouring.
  • Touring the Kilmainham Gaol . First opened in 1796, this infamous jail once held Nelson Mandela, among other revolutionaries and political prisoners. A tour offers a sobering, fascinating window into Ireland’s history.
  • Exploring the medieval town of Kilkenny.  Walking the central Medieval Mile will have you feeling like a time traveler. Don’t miss the nearby ancient hilltop fortress, the Rock of Cashel.
  • Kissing the Blarney Stone. Millions of pilgrims have climbed the Blarney Castle's steps, leaned backward, and kissed the legendary stone in hopes of gaining the gift of gab. Thanks to the installation of an iron railing, you no longer have to be held by the ankles and lowered down to kiss the stone.
  • Traveling around the Ring of Kerry.  This 112-mile coastal route winds through some of Ireland’s most spectacular scenery, including Killarney National Park.

Ten amazing things to do in Ireland →

Ireland is a friendly and welcoming country. The Irish people are known for their warm hospitality and their love of conversation. They are also known for their sense of humor and their love of music and dance. Still, it’s helpful to be aware of their customs and etiquette while visiting Ireland.

  • Greetings. When greeting someone in Ireland, it’s customary to shake hands.
  • Phrases to know. “What’s the craic?” (pronounced “crack”) is how the Irish ask, “What’s up?” At a pub, ask for a “pint of gat”—that is, a pint of Guinness. And to toast the new friends you’ll undoubtedly make in Ireland, say “sláinte!” (pronounced “SLAWN-cha”).
  • Tipping. Though not expected in Ireland, tipping is appreciated. A tip of 10% is considered appropriate for good service.
  • Be punctual. Punctuality is important in Ireland, and being late is considered rude.
  • Dress appropriately. Ireland is a relatively casual country, but it’s still important to dress appropriately for the occasion. For example, you wouldn’t want to wear shorts and a T-shirt to a nice restaurant.
  • Learn a few basic Irish phrases. Even if you don’t speak much Irish, it’s always appreciated when visitors learn a few basic phrases. This shows that you’re making an effort to connect with the local culture.
  • Politics. Ireland has a long and complicated history, and politics can be a sensitive topic. It's best to avoid discussing politics with people you don’t know well.
  • Be respectful of culture and customs. Ireland is a diverse country with a rich culture, and it’s important to be respectful of their customs and beliefs.

We recommend you spend at least six days in Ireland. While our most popular Ireland tours run nine days or more, you can enjoy a shorter trip if you limit your tour to one or two cities.

English is Ireland’s main language, and all native Irish people can speak English. However, you’ll also see some signs and place names in Irish Gaelic.

Ireland uses the euro.

To stock up on local currency, order some euros from your bank before you go, or use your debit card at an ATM once you arrive. For tips on using the euro while on our trips to Ireland, check out our blog on currency exchange →

Traditional Irish cuisine is comforting and hearty. And, yes, many dishes are made with potatoes, which are a staple crop in Ireland. But the real joy in Irish food is enjoying it along with good company in the local pub or restaurant. While you’ll find plenty of great food in Ireland’s major cities, here are some traditional dishes to savor while on our Ireland tours:

  • Irish stew.  This hearty stew is made with lamb, potatoes, carrots, onions, and other vegetables. It’s typically cooked in a slow cooker or on the stovetop until the meat is tender and the flavors have melded together.
  • Soda bread. This traditional Irish bread uses baking soda instead of yeast as a leavening agent, giving it a slightly sour flavor that’s balanced by the sweetness of the buttermilk. Topped with butter and jam, it’s a great accompaniment to soups, salads, and stews.
  • Boxty.  The Irish version of the fried potato pancake was originally made to use up leftover potatoes. The key to its trademark consistency is finely grated potato mixed with flour and buttermilk. Enjoy it plain or topped with bacon, cheese, or eggs.
  • Scones. Rich, buttery Irish scones (pronounced “scons” locally) may be the best you’ve ever tasted. They’re made with fresh, high-quality ingredients, including stone-ground flour, Irish butter, and buttermilk. They’re often paired with homemade jam, clotted cream, or butter.
  • Shepherd’s pie.  You’ll find this hearty baked pie at nearly every pub in Ireland. The popular (and delicious!) comfort food is made with a mix of ground lamb and vegetables, topped with mashed potatoes and cheese.
  • Fish and chips.  This classic dish, and popular fast-food option, is made with fried fish and french fries. It’s best enjoyed by popping into a pub for some conversation with locals as you dig into your meal.
  • Guinness.  Brewed in Dublin, Guinness is known for its smooth, creamy texture and its roasted, chocolatey flavor. At pubs all over Ireland, they’ll pour it correctly to create its iconic creamy head. It’s a beer that pairs well with Irish food—especially fish and chips.

Even though the weather can be quite unpredictable, we recommend packing light for our trips to Ireland. One suitcase and one carry-on per person is a good guideline to follow; you should feel comfortable managing your baggage at the airport. After you’ve booked one of our tour packages, we’ll give you information about how to prepare for your particular trip and even share a packing list in our mobile app.

  • Layers.  We recommend packing lots of layers to accommodate varying temperatures, as well as a light jacket or rainwear.
  • Travel umbrella. You’ll appreciate having a packable umbrella handy in case of spot showers.
  • Comfortable walking shoes.  Since you’ll be doing a lot of walking while on our guided tours to Ireland, a comfortable pair of walking shoes, sneakers, or boots is essential to have. Those walking shoes will come in handy in a country best explored on foot.
  • Dressier attire.  You may want to pack dressier attire if you plan to visit a high-end restaurant or attend a special performance.
  • Sun protection.  For all our trips, especially during the summer months in Ireland, we recommend bringing sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat to protect your face and the back of your neck.
  • An RFID money belt or wallet.  These are always a great idea when traveling internationally, especially through airports and crowded city streets. Radio-frequency identification (RFID) can protect your credit card info from electronic theft, and a money belt will conceal your cash without ruining your outfit.

Once you’ve reserved one of our Ireland tour packages, we’ll send you detailed information about what to bring with you. Don’t forget to download the  Go Ahead Tour companion app  before you take off, so you’ll have all the info you need about your trip right in your pocket.

Go to O’Brien’s Tower which stands near the highest point of the cliffs and has been a favorite viewing spot for hundreds of years.

Ireland ms2

Giant’s Causeway:

Giant’s Causeway was formed millions of years ago by volcanic activity that produced “stepping stones” that look like an old cobbled road leading mysteriously into the sea. This is a UNESCO site and an absolute must-see.

Ireland ms3

Dublin, the “Fair City”:

This modern yet traditional capital city of Ireland is filled to the brim with charm! Fall in love while strolling through the city’s rows of magnificent Georgian townhouses. See St. Patrick’s Cathedral which dates back to the 13th century.

Ireland md3

40 Shades of Green:

Listen up – this melodic song about Ireland was written and performed by American country singer Johnny Cash in 1958. He recalled singing this song in Ireland and being told that it sounded like an old Irish folk tune. Listen to it to set the mood for your trip.

Ireland md4

Ah, pubs are THE place to grab a pint of your favorite beverage, relax, and join in socializing with the locals. Strike up a conversation and hear great stories from Ireland’s rich bank of folklore. This is a vibrant, warm and welcoming place to truly get to know the people of Ireland.

Expert Advice

If you have some extra time before your tour begins to explore Dublin, you'll find plenty to do! The public bus service allows you to easily make your way around, or perhaps hop on a double decker sightseeing bus which loops through the city, giving you access to some of the city’s highlights.

Ireland e2

As you prepare to explore Ireland — the verdant Emerald Isle — enjoy a casual dress style and be sure to pack comfortable walking shoes. It is recommended to bring clothing that may be worn in layers and can be added or removed as the temperature changes.

Ireland e3

While cooking in Ireland can be considered simple, it’s also quite modern and tasty. Favorites like fish and chips, Irish breakfasts, potatoes prepared in various ways, soda bread, Irish stew and shellfish are quite common. All in all, you will eat very well during your time exploring Ireland.

Sustainability efforts on this tour will include reducing greenhouse gas pollution, decreasing single-use plastic waste, supporting climate action, and updating concession offerings to promote and encourage plant-based food options with Support+Feed .

In keeping with her commitment to making a difference in the environmental impacts of her music and touring, a portion of the proceeds from ticket sales in North America will go to  REVERB  and its ongoing effort to help support organizations across the country addressing the impacts of food insecurity and the climate crisis.

FAN PARTICIPATION

Bring an empty reusable water bottle or donate for a custom RockNRefill Nalgene bottle to fill up at the free water refill stations located at each venue. The RockNRefill bottles and refill stations are located at the Eco-Villages in the main concourse at all shows. Fight fast fashion by opting for thrifted, upcycled, or borrowed clothes instead of buying new clothing to wear to shows.

Please note, a valid bank account or debit card within the country of your event is required to sell on the Face Value Exchange. The Top 10 Safest Countries In Europe To Visit in 2024

D reaming of a European adventure but prioritizing safety? It may be difficult to decide where to travel with so many nations to choose from. Living in or visiting a nation that is deemed “safe” is undoubtedly a luxury, but when it comes to vacations and international travel, it’s sometimes an afterthought. Planning your vacation might go more smoothly if you are aware of which nations are considered safe for visitors to visit before booking your trip. The following list compiles the top ten safest European nations to go to in 2024, along with some key safety indicators like crime rates, political stability and healthcare systems. Let’s find you the perfect European haven for your next unforgettable escapade.

Why Does Travel Safety Matter?

There’s usually a list of “must-haves” that a country has to have, regardless of whether you visit or plan to live there permanently. We are all familiar with the typical must-haves: stunning scenery, advanced infrastructure, a wide range of activities, etc. All of the aforementioned elements are important to Nomad Capitalists, but we also give top priority to things like tax breaks, a welcoming business climate, and investment opportunities.

However, safety is the one consideration that takes precedence over all others. Even if the nation became the most developed, tax-free investment destination, people would still be afraid of touching it with a rod if they felt insecure. Fortunately, Europe continues to be the world’s most tranquil continent.

The Top 10 Safest Countries In Europe to Visit

A safe environment consists of several layers. Not every safety talk touches on issues of law and order or violent crime statistics. Safety also includes general perception, healthcare and the political environment. In light of everything, the safest nations in Europe are:

Iceland has remained on top of the list of safest countries in Europe for ten years in a row. Known as “the land of fire and ice” because of its untamed terrain, it is regarded as one of the safest regions in Europe because of its persistently low crime rate, excellent standard of living and unnecessary reliance on unarmed police.

Iceland boasts robust social networks and a deep sense of community. Nearly 98% of Icelanders claim to know someone they can depend on in an emergency. One of the key benefits of living on an island with a tight-knit community is that crime rates remain low because people know one another and can support one another in situations of need. It is also the third happiest nation in the world, based on the World Happiness Report.

Even if you’re traveling alone, the nation is among the safest countries in Europe for female travelers. Schedule a visit to this secure European nation to increase your chances of seeing the fabled Northern Lights. Make a reservation for the Blue Lagoon for a tranquil activity where you may let your thoughts drift away and harmonize with the opulent surroundings.

Denmark is the second safest country in the world and Europe, and it is also the birthplace of the concept of utter contentment (Hygge). But this nation is renowned for more than just safety; it has a lot to offer visitors, whether they are traveling alone or with a big group of friends. Some of the attractions are LEGO, the Tivoli Gardens and even enjoying a nice Carlsberg beer. You’ll be departing with tales from one of Europe’s safest nations that someone like Hans Christian Anderson would be proud of.

Books, legends and a pint of Irish Guinness. The time has come to get to know  the Emerald Isle if an Irish tour isn’t the last thing on your mind. The Republic of Ireland is ranked third among the safest European nations by the GPI. It is distinct from Northern Ireland, a constituent of the Kingdom of Great Britain.

This little country takes great pleasure in its lush surroundings, its musical talents and its ability to pour the ideal pint. The nation also offers one of the lowest corporation tax rates in all of Europe. We’ve even highlighted Ireland as a great travel destination for single female travelers because of its comparatively low crime rate and low threat levels. Leave Dublin behind and immerse yourself in the fabled tales of bygone eras in other counties like Cork and Limerick; you never know what you could find. Furthermore, the Irish passport is regarded as one of the strongest five passports globally for its excellent freedom of travel.

Austria, which is renowned for its regal and ancient castles and palaces, comes in second place among the safest nations in Europe. But it’s not only architecture, either. Classical music enthusiasts can honor well-known composers like Mozart and Beethoven by swaying along in Vienna. Should your tour happen to arrive in the winter, you may enter the magical Christmas markets and experience a sensation equivalent to being within a joyous snow globe. Find out more about the best places to travel to in Europe during the winter.

Portugal, which completes the top 5 safest countries in Europe, enjoys cordial relations with its neighbors, a very low crime rate, and its armed forces. The country in southwest Europe has high levels of safety, in part because of the presence of security officials. Portugal is also safe politically, as its connections with other nations are cooperative.

In addition, the nation experiences over 300 days of sunshine on average, so visitors may be lucky to experience pleasant weather while touring. Take a tour of Portugal in the spring or summer and return feeling rejuvenated. Leave Lisbon behind and explore the city before expanding your horizons to include the other towns. Saying “yes” to a vacation in this secure European nation is the only thing left to do.

Slovenia is a country with breathtaking scenery, untamed lakes and elaborate cave networks. Slovenia’s capital, Ljubljana, was voted the Open City of Europe in 2016 because of its completely car-free city center, abundance of open areas and changes to the traffic laws that promote environmental health and sustainability.

But having beautiful scenery by itself doesn’t guarantee a place among the ten safest nations in Europe. Slovenia excels in several areas besides environmental safety. With almost 90% of recorded criminal charges being theft, it ranks high among the countries with the lowest levels of crime in the world. Slovenia deserves a spot on your next trip destination since it has a plethora of medieval castles, lots of recreational opportunities, and the cleanest atmospheres you’ll ever experience.

Switzerland

An excursion to Switzerland is sure to leave you craving more cheese, chocolate, and timepieces. Its long-standing neutrality has played a key role in keeping Switzerland safe, stable, and free of all bloodshed. The Swiss people are an exceptional nation because they have always lived in a tranquil environment free from instability or the threat of conflict. The nation has been able to focus on more vital issues like social welfare and growth because of the prolonged era of peace. Switzerland is now at the top of the Human Development Index.

Were you aware that Switzerland maintains one of the largest rates of gun ownership worldwide? Despite being known for being a major exporter of weapons, it has managed to keep its crime rate extremely low. That’s the extent to which the government’s gun control measures work.

The Czech Republic

Czechia, or The Czech Republic is a well-liked travel destination with a rich cultural heritage and a high level of security within Europe. There is little chance of terrorist threats, communities frequently coexist peacefully and the cost of medical services and other necessities is comparatively lower.

Finland is a deserving destination to be included in the list of the safest European countries. The country is proud to share the statistic that 11 out of 12 misplaced purses are given back to their owners. This country is a delight in every season, home to Lapland, the largest island in the world, and untamed wilderness.

Furthermore, Finland is the second-safest nation according to the Women’s Peace and Security Index, making it a safe sanctuary for lone travelers. Therefore, you can confidently pack your bags and reserve your next trip to this stunning nation if you’re a woman hoping to view the northern lights. If you like to avoid crowds, consider taking a trip in the fall, right before the holiday season.

The Republic of Croatia

Croatia ranks bottom among the ten safest European nations, surrounded by historic walls and terracotta roofs. Even when it came to the safest places to walk at night—which is frequently a top concern for women traveling alone—it came in second. Croatia is a strong candidate for any upcoming European trip plans you may have, given its Mediterranean climate.

Safe Travels!

Now that you are aware of the safest countries in Europe, pack your bags and embrace the peace of mind! Whether you crave the rugged beauty of Iceland or the charming canals of Amsterdam, Europe offers a wealth of safe and unforgettable travel experiences. Remember, this list is a jumping-off point, and further research can help tailor your choice to your specific interests.

While these countries consistently rank highly in safety, it’s important to remember that vigilance is key anywhere you travel. Staying informed about current events, researching specific destinations, and practising common sense will go a long way in ensuring a smooth and secure European adventure. With a little planning and this handy guide, your European adventure is sure to be as safe as it is spectacular.

Instead, the tour is hitting 19 U.S. states, jumping back and forth across the country and ducking into Canada a few times, before heading overseas to Australia, the Netherlands and Europe in a widespread 10-month tour.

Eilish's third album comes hard on the heels of winning, with her brother and collaborator Finneas, just about every award possible for "What Was I Made For?" from the "Barbie" movie soundtrack.

Cradle Of Filth announce extensive UK and Europe 2024 headline tour

Everybody’s favourite gothic black metal villains will be joined by Butcher Babies, High Parasite and Mental Cruelty from October to December

Cradle Of Filth onstage in 2021

Cradle Of Filth have announced an extensive string of UK, Ireland and mainland Europe shows for the end of 2024.

The horror-loving extreme metal mavens will first tour the UK and Ireland, supported by Butcher Babies and High Parasite from October 27 to November 8.

The leg will include a special Halloween concert at London’s O2 Forum Kentish Town on October 31.

The band will then play across the mainland with Butcher Babies and Mental Cruelty, starting on November 13 and finishing on December 7.

The full list of dates is available below.

Tickets to the shows will go on sale on Thursday (May 2) at 10am UK time and 11am Central European Summer Time.

Last month, Cradle Of Filth announced that they were in the studio recording their 14th full-length album, the followup to 2021’s Existence Is Futile .

Keyboardist and co-vocalist Zoe Marie Federoff posted on social media that the impending album will be stylistically similar to the band’s 1996 album Dusk And Her Embrace and 2000 album Midian .

“Tired AF, but feeling solid after day one in the studio for the new Cradle Of Filth album,” she wrote.

“I completely agree with Dani [Filth, lead singer]’s take on this being a very Dusk / Midian vibe this go around.

“These new songs are so fresh, exciting, dynamic and immersive – I can’t say any more except prepare to be blown clean away by a straight up set of bangers.

“Bloody hell, as they say on this side of the pond.”

Dani Filth previously stated that Cradle Of Filth’s 14th album will feature the band’s long-anticipated collaboration with pop megastar Ed Sheeran.

“One of the surprises, obviously, but it’s not so much a surprise is that we’ve got a song that we have Ed Sheeran guesting on. It’s gonna be on the album,” Filth told Polish journalist Pełna Kulturka.

“And people have heard it and loved it. But it is what you imagine: it’s Cradle Of Filth and it’s Ed Sheeran. It sounds like Ed Sheeran, it sounds like Cradle Of Filth. There's a blast beat in it.”

Filth added that the next Cradle Of Filth album won’t be out this year, but that the first single from it should be released “about September, October time”.
