CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. (AP) — A recreational vehicle blew a tire on an interstate highway in Pennsylvania, crossed the median and collided head-on with a tractor-trailer, killing four people in the RV and the truck driver, authorities said.

The crash occurred around 8:50 p.m. Wednesday on northbound Interstate 81 near Chambersburg, in south-central Pennsylvania, state police said. The RV, which was heading south and towing a trailer, crossed a grassy median after the tire blew and struck the truck, which was towing double trailers.

Four people in the RV and the truck driver were all pronounced dead at the scene, and no other injuries were reported. Those killed in the RV were identified as Donald Molander, Kimberly Molander, Miranda Molander and Dane Molander, all of Middletown, Pennsylvania. The truck driver was identified as James Shade, of Martinsburg, West Virginia.

The stretch of road was shut down for nearly 10 hours as authorities investigated, and residual delays continued Thursday morning.

A prominent Long Island pediatrician was killed when she tumbled out of a moving Airstream trailer — still clutching the door’s handle — and onto an upstate highway during a family road trip over the weekend, according to state police and kin.

Dr. Monika Woroniecka — a 58-year-old married mom and children’s allergy and immunology specialist with Stony Brook Medicine — was in the 2024 silver trailer with other family members when she fell through the door shortly after 3 p.m. Saturday and onto State Route 12E in Watertown in a freak accident,  said police  and family.

Woroniecka’s husband, Robert, 59, was driving the gray 2019 Ram pickup truck pulling the trailer at the time, according to a press release.

Motorists who witnessed the frightening fatal fall said the passenger-side door of the Airstream flew open, helped by the wind — while the doctor was clutching its handle, police said.

Dr. Monika Woroniecka

The helpless woman landed on the shoulder of the highway, striking her head.

She was rushed to Samaritan Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

The traffic accident came as Woroniecka and other relatives boarded the trailer for the final 20 minutes of a road trip from Stony Brook, LI, where the family lives, the troopers said.

The victim worked at Stony Brook Medicine since the early 2000s, according to her medical profile .

“She enjoys working with children and their families and developing a long-term relationship with families while guiding them through chronic allergy-related conditions,” the profile said. “Dr. Woroniecka’s native language is Polish [and] draws Polish-speaking families from far distances.

“Dr. Woroniecka likes to travel, hike, exercise, and spend time with family and friends,” the post adds.

Her grieving family acknowledged to The Post on Sunday that the victim was a doctor on the island, as did the state police, but both declined further comment.

Officials at Stony Brook did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Accident and Emergency Guide

What to Do If You're in an RV Accident

Noel Hendrickson/Getty Images

Accidents are a way of life on the road. Whether you’re traveling to work, going on vacation, or are riding in a passenger seat, at some point in life you’ll be involved in a car accident. The same is true when RVing . When RVing, there are few things scarier than being in an accident that you’ll experience on the road. Our guide will explain what to do during and after an RV accident to ensure you, your family, and your RV are ready for your next adventure.

Check on Yourself and Your Passenger

  • After your vehicle and/or RV come to a stop, check on yourself and your passengers. Make sure everyone is okay and can exit the vehicle or trailer.
  • If you can exit, do so; if not, call 911 and wait for help to arrive.
  • Do not attempt to move anyone who is injured from your vehicle or trailer unless they are in immediate danger, such as a fuel leak, a fire, or smoke.

Check on Anyone Else Involved in Accident

  • Once everyone is okay on your end, if you haven’t already called 911 or the police, do so. Even for a minor RV accident, call the police to assist as you to either get back on the road or be towed due to the size of RVs and trailers.
  • If other vehicles are involved, check on everyone else involved in the accident and render assistance if necessary/possible.

Move Your Vehicle and/or RV to Side of Road

  • If you can move your vehicle and/or RV to the side of the road, do so; if you’re not sure if it’s safe to do so, don’t. If your vehicle is towing a trailer, do not attempt to move the RV to the side of the road in any circumstance as you don’t know the condition of your hitch and could lose your trailer in the process.
  • Wait for the police or emergency vehicles to arrive on the side of the road or shoulder whenever possible. If you’re carrying propane, gasoline, or any other fuel outside your RV, make sure to put a fair amount of distance between you and the RV while waiting for help to arrive.
  • Turn on your safety lights or have warning triangles or flares in your vehicle, place them out to make others aware of the accident.

Make Sure to Exchange Information and Document Everything

You can exchange vehicle and insurance information with others involved before or after the police arrive on the scene. Make sure to write down as much information about the accident as possible and take pictures if it’s safe to do so. Take pictures of your RV , your vehicle, and other vehicles involved in the accident. Draw diagrams, use your insurance’s smartphone app and make note of even the smallest detail where possible to refer to later.

Call Your Insurance Agent Before You Leave the Scene

Make sure to call your insurance agent if possible before you leave the scene of the accident. They will be able to give you advice and information you may have forgotten due to being in an accident.

Follow the Insurance Claims Process from Your Agent

The insurance claims process for an RV accident will vary from when you file a claim for your car or other vehicles. Depending on the cause of the accident, the type of damage involved, and whether anybody was hurt or not will determine how your insurance agent handles the claims on both sides. Work with your insurance agent from start to finish to determine the right course of action on what to file, what you’ll pay out of pocket, and the steps you’ll need to follow for a successful insurance claim.

Take Your Vehicle and RV in for an Inspection

Make sure a reputable mechanic or service center inspects your vehicle and/or RV as soon as possible. Whether it’s towed there from the scene or you take it there the next day, the sooner you can verify the damage done inside and outside, the sooner you can provide that information to your insurance agent to get claims coverage started.

Pro Tip: Just because you can’t see or identify damage to your RV or towing vehicle yourself doesn’t mean it’s not there. Don’t delay taking your RV in for an inspection because you think nothing is wrong. If you delay, you may not be able to get insurance to cover the issues in your accident claim.

Have Your Hitch Inspected and/or Replaced

Depending on the type of accident and how your RV responded to it, you want to have your entire hitch system inspected and possibly replaced. Hitches aren’t meant to take the type of punishment an accident often brings, so it may bend, break, crack, or otherwise have its integrity weakened. A weakened hitch can lead to trailer sway or loss of a trailer on the road, so it’s imperative this is checked out and replaced if necessary before your next road trip.

Can You Avoid an RV Accident?

Avoiding an RV accident, like a car accident, isn’t foolproof. At some point, something you do, something beyond your control, or something somebody else does may cause an accident. If you’re RVing, this can be scarier than you imagine because you’re either driving an over-sized vehicle or you’re towing something attached to your primary vehicles. Sharpening your RV driving and towing skills , following the rules of the road, and being aware of your surroundings are excellent ways to do what you can to prevent an RV accident.

In the event you’re in an RV accident at some point during your travels, the number one tip I can give you is this: Take a deep breath, stay as calm as possible, and follow the above tips to ensure your safety, recover your RV, and get back on the road as soon as possible.

13 Terrible Travel Trailer Accidents: What Went Wrong?

Travel Trailer Accidents

13 Terrible Travel Trailer Accidents : What Went Wrong?

I assume you are aware of what to expect if you are reading this post. But there are a few things you should know before we look at these different travel trailer incidents.

First of all, it’s important to remember that each of the accidents featured below features real-time footage of a collision. That indicates that in each of them, actual individuals and cars suffered harm. As a result, even if an accident seems hilarious at first, we must approach it seriously.

The videos below were all downloaded from the YouTube website. Many of them are fragments of larger accident collections. But not all of the accidents in the video are relevant to the topic of travel trailer crashes, so not all of them are shown.

The same compilation contains multiple clips, so the video will appear more than once. I’ve changed the time stamps for each accident when this is the case. Simply press the play button to view the appropriate mishap for each individual entry.

Some of the videos in this post can be pretty intense because they are about traffic accidents, notable ones involving travel trailers. People can and do perish in circumstances like this, and there is a lot of destruction involved. Be aware that some of the videos below may have sexually explicit or violent content.

It’s still advised that you only watch the videos if you are 18 years of age Be aware that some of the videos below may have sexually explicit or violent content. even though not all of them feature this imagery. These instances contain some language since these are high-stakes scenarios that were captured on camera by actual individuals.

Finally, none of these movies’ editing or music selections were done by me or the website camperreport.com.

Some of them have titles that seem to mock the unfortunate circumstances of the drivers involved or music that doesn’t fit the seriousness of the issue. We don’t wish to minimize the suffering of the victims of these accidents, so please know that our hearts go out to them.

RV trailer sway

This event demonstrates the severe consequences of trailer sway when driving. Every trailer owner needs to be aware of this, and the good news is that it can typically be stopped before things get this bad.

As you can see from the example above, a trailer sway problem develops when an attached trailer starts to veer off course and rock back and forth. It can result in both vehicles flipping over and further injuries to other drivers if it is not appropriately corrected by the driver.

This issue typically arises while towing a trailer with a heavy back end at high speeds. Typically, wind striking a trailer’s sidewalls causes the way to begin. An unstable trailer can also be caused by abrupt changes in direction. Trailer sway can occur if trailer drivers pass semi trucks because of the slipstream of turbulence that surrounds them.

There are a few things you can do to stop the swaying of your trailer from getting worse if you notice it starting to happen. First of all, don’t accelerate or decelerate unexpectedly.

Simply release the accelerator while maintaining a straight line with the steering wheel. If there are any cars around you at the time, you should also turn on your warning lights to alert them to your instability.

Allow your car to slow down naturally and keep the steering wheel as straight as you can. Avoid attempting to swerve into your trailer’s wobble because doing so will just accelerate it.

travel trailer crash

Get off the road and move toward a secure parking area as soon as you’ve regained some control. Then readjust the weight load in your trailer so that it’s more front-heavy.

Trailer sway is the culprit of a lot of travel trailer accidents, so this is important to know right off the bat.

https://youtu.be/Z7Kfl97b57s

Once again, poorly managed trailer wobble is the issue in this video. This is a fantastic illustration of why you shouldn’t attempt to control the swerving yourself; instead, you should hold the wheel straight and let it right itself.

One of the main errors in this illustration is the trailer’s driver’s failure to reduce speed after realizing a problem. They can be seen edging out the person shooting this as they continue to go forward.

You shouldn’t worry about keeping to the speed limit in circumstances like this. The more harm you can do, the faster you’re moving. The driver ought to have kept the wheel steady and depressed the accelerator in order to avoid this situation. They could have managed the issue and the speed better if they had done this.

This is a particularly sad example because the initial error would have been simple to fix. At first, it seems like such a minor movement, and it would have been simple to straighten out. Always keep an eye on your trailer while you’re driving so you can correct errors as they occur.

Make sure you have the proper hitch for your trailer

When I suggested mishaps that can initially seem humorous, this is what I meant. Although it’s fortunate that no one was killed or hurt in this instance, the trailer and the traffic light sustained a substantial amount of damage. It’s a miracle that there weren’t any vehicles parked next to it on the street or anyone using the sidewalk.

Try not to take this one too lightly because the driver will still be responsible for any damage.

The obvious error in this video is that the trailer’s connection to the tow vehicle was improper. From this angle and with the minimal information we have, it’s difficult to say, but it appears like the hitch must have snapped or disconnected just before this happened.

Here are some broad tips to help you stay away from these issues since we don’t know the precise source of this gap. Make sure you have the right hitch for your trailer before anything else. Make sure the hitch or connector fits properly because not all of them are universal. It may fall off at the worst possible time if it is too loose or too tight.

Safety chains would be an additional effective technique of prevention. These are chains that attach to the trailer and the tow vehicle’s bases. In the event that the hitch should come undone, they provide an additional layer of defense. Although they weren’t designed for heavy use, they can keep your cars connected up until you can park and remedy the problem.

This trailer’s driver committed a few errors in this situation. Although the video quality isn’t the best, as you can see, it appears that the driver was attempting to climb a very steep incline.

The state of the roads doesn’t appear to be perfect from what I can tell. It appears that the road is damp, and there may even be mud there. The vehicle appears to lack a four-wheel mode and is also extremely small.

These elements work together to produce a very undesirable condition. The trailer appears to fit into the automobile just barely enough. It doesn’t have a lot of extra power to spare for uphill climbs that are challenging. As a result, once the weight of the trailer starts to pull it backward, it lacks the strength to fight back.

There are a few things you can do to avoid issues like the ones in this video. First and foremost, confirm that the trailers you’re towing are safe for your tow vehicle. The trailer wins because it looks much bigger than the car.

Always leave a safety margin of 15 to 30 percent between your tow vehicle’s towing capacity and your trailer’s fully laden weight to keep everything in balance and help you get through challenging situations like this. Don’t exceed the two capacities’ maximum limits!

Finally, when driving on slick roads, you need to exercise extra caution. traction is present, and the chance of being snagged in opposing water flows is increased. When towing a trailer, drive with additional caution on treacherous roads.

https://youtu.be/CJtmOPdWrlE

Due to the fact that this collision doesn’t appear to occur at extremely high speeds, it is an interesting case. Although there may be some trailer sway, it doesn’t appear to be the primary cause of the tip. The driver appears to be keeping a steady course and not moving too quickly.

It’s difficult to say for sure what exactly caused this trailer to tumble, although it appears like it may have been loaded incorrectly. It is considerably simpler for trailers to topple over on the road when the majority of their weight is at the back. It’s comparable to riding in the rear row of a roller coaster and experiencing the sharper bends. Everything intensifies because you are experiencing all the speed and inertia.

Although I wouldn’t claim that the driver made a mistake, the accident might have been avoided if the trailer had been loaded differently. It would be more balanced and less prone to topple if additional weight was placed at the front.

This is just another illustration of how to improperly handle trailer sway. As you can see, the car and trailer are already leaning slightly as they approach the large truck. Slowing down and smoothing out would have been a good way to fix this.

The worst error they made was pushing on and passing the semi-truck. The shaking was exacerbated as the automobile was thrown off track by the slipstream’s turbulence. It eventually flipped around as a result of the collision with the semi’s side.

This motorist ought to have slowed down as soon as they felt the balance begin to change. They were unable to pass anyone, much less a semi-truck, because of their position. There don’t seem to have been any deaths in this case, which is lucky, but this mix is a recipe for disaster.

Although the trailer itself wasn’t directly to blame for this accident, the driver should have done better in this situation. Normally, it’s the responsibility of the highway driver to move aside when someone is attempting to merge, but in this instance, all of the nearby lanes were full.

The automobile had to decide between striking the trailer and diverting into other lanes because there was no safe way for the trailer to merge when it did.

The trailer driver should have been more aware of their surroundings to have avoided harm in this instance. This would have demonstrated to them that merging was not a wise decision. They may have taken it more slowly and waited for a chance.

It would have been preferable to cause all that damage, even though it could have irritated the automobile in front of them. Operators of trailers should be aware that they have a greater potential for harm than drivers of other vehicles on the road.

The biggest problem with this illustration is that the driver is either attempting to enter another lane without indicating or is drifting dangerously inside their own lane. In any case, they approach the other truck much too closely for comfort.

According to what I can see, the driver of the trailer is attempting to move out of the way of the tow truck as it is being blocked by all the automobiles. It is attempting to create space because its lane is closing. The other lane is taken, but doing this is still a smart idea!

The vehicle was immediately next to the driver, so it’s plausible that the driver’s mirrors missed it, but the driver needs to pay greater attention. This simply could have been a lot worse. When they noticed that the lane was coming to an end, they ought to have slowed down and paid closer attention to their surroundings.

How this trailer even got stuck in the first place is beyond me. However, adding engine power can never free a stuck car. They ought to have called the police or an auto body shop as soon as they discovered the trailer couldn’t escape on its own.

The biggest piece of advice I can give for this situation is to be aware of your trailer’s size restrictions before entering confined locations. To avoid becoming stuck, make sure the area is both large and tall enough to accommodate you.

Moreover, you should avoid attempting to force your way out of confined spaces like this. You’ll just end up doing more harm in the long run.

Travel Trailer Accidents

This film focuses more on the aftermath of an accident than on the accident itself. When the trailer’s drivers pulled into the parking lot, it looked like they either tried to jump a curb or took the wrong turn.

If it was the first one, you shouldn’t ever attempt to pull a trailer over a curb. They can easily become trapped on minor bumps because of their short clearance at the bottom. They also lack a car’s engine power, so they are unable to drive across such treacherous terrain.

The trailer’s drivers should have taken it slower and prepared in advance if there was a wide turn. If other vehicles on the road notice you are about to turn, they will give you extra room. Just let other drivers know your plans; nobody wants to get hit.

Fortunately, the owners of this trailer summoned someone who had the necessary tools and did not attempt to pull themselves out of this. They made the appropriate decision.

It’s a little bit hard to see the trailer in this video, but it does pan over for a second. When I was checking over the description of this video, it claimed that this trailer actually got trapped in this parking garage, which triggered the sprinklers. So everything that is happening is because of the trailer.

The solution to this problem is to be totally straightforward. Make sure you are aware of the size restrictions on your trailer and avoid bringing them somewhere they won’t fit. Parking garages normally have signs that inform you of the ceiling height, so you can make sure you’ll fit.

The folks who were trapped below and were unable to leave due to this trailer had great inconvenience as a result of this error. If you decide to pull a trailer behind your car, be considerate of other drivers and know that most parking garages won’t let you in.

Although this movie is a simulation and not an actual instance of a car crash, I believe it conveys a crucial point. This article discusses the risks associated with trailer towing as well as how a hitch might detach while being driven. The trailer might then become unhinged and roll into oncoming traffic as a result.

Your hitch is more likely to disconnect during turns if it isn’t linked properly. Before starting down the road, inspect the hitch thoroughly. Imagine the harm this could do on a freeway, despite the fact that this video was shot in a controlled setting.

9 Major RV Accident Statistics and Facts – 2024 Update

  • Last updated: Jan 03 2024

Note : This article’s statistics come from third-party sources and do not represent the opinions of this website.

Just like any other vehicle out there, RVs can get in accidents. Since they are so large, they can cause more serious accidents and even more deaths. However, some of the fear around RV accidents may not be called for.

Click below to jump ahead:

RV Accident Deaths

Rv accidents caused by trailer sway, rv use and ownership, rv accident injuries, the 9 major rv accident statistics.

  • On average, 26 people die each year in RV-related accidents , though this includes people in cars that were hit by RVs.
  • RVs have about 1/3 the fatality rate of all other vehicles , suggesting that they are safer.
  • There are about 75,000 hospitalizations resulting from RV accidents every year.
  • On average, 500,000 accidents occur due to trailer sway each year .
  • 8.9 million people own an RV in the United States , with 30 million being considered RV enthusiasts.
  • 10% of all RV drivers are seniors .
  • The popularity of RVs among those aged 21 to 35 has increased over the last few years.
  • 38% of RV drivers are millennials.
  • The number-one injury associated with RV accidents is a head injury . Fractures, cuts, facial injuries, and spinal cord injuries are the next most common.

1. On average, 26 people die each year in RV-related accidents, though this includes people in cars that were hit by RVs.

(Fifth Wheel St.)

Generally, about 26 people die from RV-related accidents every year. This statistic includes those who were hit by the RV, not just those driving in the RV.

Typically, passenger vehicles hit by RVs and those riding in the RV have the same chance of serious injury or death. It depends on various factors, though, such as the details of the accident and the safety steps taken by those in the RV.

2. RVs have about 1/3 the fatality rate of all other vehicles, suggesting that they are safer.

RVs have a fatality rate of about 0.44 deaths per 100 million vehicles. All vehicles averaged have about 1.48 deaths per 100 million vehicles. Therefore, RVs have about 1/3 of the death rate out of all other motorized vehicles on the road, which suggests that they are much safer than other cars.

Therefore, the fear around the potentially deadly nature of RVs is uncalled for. In fact, they are actually three times as safe as other cars on the market.

3. There are about 75,000 hospitalizations resulting from RV accidents every year.

Besides deaths, there are about 75,000 hospitalizations that occur every year. This statistic also includes people who were hospitalized and then later died.

This number does vary somewhat from year to year. For instance, there were 70,000 people injured in 2003, which is a bit lower than the average.

All that said, this injury statistic is less than we find for other vehicles.

4. On average, 500,000 accidents occur due to trailer sway each year.

(RV and Play)

There are slightly more accidents caused by trailer sway each year than there are injuries. It appears that at least some accidents caused by vehicle sway are minor and do not result in injury, especially when you take into account that many serious accidents had multiple injuries. This statistic proves that those who pull RVs behind their cars need to be extra careful when it comes to trailer sway.

Trailer sway occurs when the trailer literally sways, often occurring when the wind is blowing hard. Rarely does this actually make the trailer tip over and roll. However, it can cause it to brush up against passing cars and trucks, causing accidents.

Trailer sway can also occur when two trailers pass next to each other, as it causes a vacuum. It is easily the number-one cause of RV accidents.

5. 8.9 million people own an RV in the United States, with 30 million being considered RV enthusiasts.

(Beebe and O’Neil)

There are about 8.9 million people who own an RV today. 30 million people are considered enthusiasts, which means that they regularly rent RVs.

Based on this information, you can expect that there are plenty of people with RVs on the road each year, though the ownership of RVs is less than passenger cars.

However, it also means that there are fewer RV accidents simply because there are fewer RVs.

6. 10% of all RV drivers are seniors.

RVs are popularly purchased or rented by seniors over the age of 55. This statistic has certain implications. Seniors are more likely to have accidents due to weakening vision and delayed response times. They are also more likely to be injured in crashes, which significantly raises the injury statistic.

Keep this in mind when you’re considering overall RV statistics.

7. The popularity of RVs among those aged 21 to 35 has increased over the last few years.

Quite a few younger people are renting RVs these days. It isn’t just seniors in RVs getting into crashes. Many 21- to 35-year-olds are driving RVs and crashing too.

8. 38% of RV drivers are millennials.

38% of RV drivers are millennials. They outnumber RV-driving seniors. Therefore, most RV accidents are not caused by seniors.

The mental image of most RV accidents usually features an older person driving an RV, but this obviously isn’t reality based on these statistics.

9. The number-one injury associated with RV accidents is a head injury. Fractures, cuts, facial injuries, and spinal cord injuries are the next most common.

The top injury caused by RV accidents is a head injury. Typically, this is caused when the crash causes someone to hit their head on something inside the vehicle. Fortunately, these injuries tend to be fairly minor.

Fractures, cuts, and facial injuries are also fairly common. Most of these occur due to the impact, which causes the person to hit something. Facial injuries usually occur alongside head injuries.

Spinal cord injuries are less common, but they do still occur. These usually caused by a trauma of some kind.

Frequently Asked Questions About RV Accident Statistics

Are rvs safe in an accident.

RVs are not completely safe in a crash, so they are like every other vehicle on the road. There are people who have perished in RV accidents.

That said, RVs do cause death less frequently than other cars currently on the road. They do seem to be safer than most other vehicles. However, no vehicle is completely safe, including those as big as an RV.

(Just Down Size)

Which Type of RV Is Safest?

There are several different types of RVs, with some types being safer than others. Class B vans are the safest choice for motorhomes . All these cars have stability control and frontal airbags, which helps them remain safe in a crash. Some are even available with extra features, like blind-spot warning and lane-keeping assist.

However, all types of RVs are decently safe.

(Consumer Reports)

Are Fifth Wheels Safer Than Travel Trailers?

Fifth wheels are generally considered just as safe as a small travel trailer. They are easy to drive and have a great hitch location that makes them easier to maneuver as necessary.

While fifth wheels and travel trailers drive a bit differently, they are virtually the same when it comes to ease of driving. Therefore, they tend to have the same number of accidents .

(Camping World)

Are RVs Crash Tested?

Typically, RVs are crash tested as a frame, not necessarily as a whole unit. Crash testing a whole RV would be difficult and expensive.

The companies that create the “car” part of the RV are required to crash-test the vehicle. Therefore, all RVs are crash tested to some extent, though exactly how and when during the development process varies considerably.

(Classic Vans)

What Is a Risk With RVs?

There are a few things that you have to worry about with RVs that aren’t necessarily problems with passenger cars. First, RVs are much larger than most other cars out there. Therefore, collisions can be deadly. Second, they have several large blind spots, which can cause accidents if the driver is not cautious.

For this reason, RVs are often considered by the general population to be more dangerous than cars. However, that isn’t necessarily the case. The actual statistics of RV-related deaths and injuries are rather low, even compared to the average car.

(Leifer Law)

Are RVs Safer Than Cars?

Yes, statistics show that RVs are safer than cars . Fewer people die when riding in RVs than in cars, even taking into account the fact that fewer people drive RVs less often.

Specifically speaking, people in all vehicles combined die at a rate of 1.48 for every 100 million vehicles. On the other hand, there are only 0.44 deaths per 100 million RVs. Therefore, you’re about three times safer in an RV than in most other vehicles.

Based on this information, RVs are much safer than other travel options out there, including passenger cars.

RVs are not as dangerous as many people make them out to be. In fact, statistics show that many RVs are actually safer than most other vehicles out there. Based on this information, you don’t have to worry about being more likely to crash or get injured when in an RV.

It is also a myth that RVs crash because they are mostly driven by seniors. While 10% of all RVs on the road are being driven by someone over 55 years old, three times that amount are being driven by millennials. Therefore, seniors do not drive most of the RVs out there or cause most of the crashes. (RV and Play)

Two tractor-trailers collide, resulting in a deadly crash in Goochland County

NY children's hospital doctor dies after falling out of moving trailer during family trip to see the eclipse

It happened during the last 20 minutes of their trip from stony brook, by jennifer millman • published april 8, 2024 • updated on april 10, 2024 at 1:21 am.

A 58-year-old physician at a Long Island children's hospital is dead after falling out of a moving house trailer when the wind blew the door open on a highway over the weekend, authorities say.

The Long Island doctor was heading to upstate New York to see the  solar eclipse  with her family, they were driving on State Route 12E in the town of Brownville, Jefferson County, on Saturday afternoon when the freak accident happened, according to New York State Police. It was the last 20 minutes of their ride. Monika Woroniecka's husband was towing the house trailer.

Woroniecka, who worked in Stony Brook Medicine's Pediatric Allergy and Immunology department, decided to spend those last 20 minutes in the trailer, along with other family members. The unthinkable happened.

Witnesses who had been driving behind the trailer told state troopers they saw the passenger side door of the Airstream open and Woroniecka's arm hanging on it after a strong wind. It wasn't clear if she was trying to close the door. The 58-year-old doctor was thrown from the Airstream and hit her head on the shoulder of the roadway.

She died of her injuries at a hospital. The one that employed her, meanwhile, was left to mourn her in a statement.

"Stony Brook Medicine is deeply saddened to learn of the tragic loss of one of our esteemed colleagues over the weekend, Dr. Monika Woroniecka, a physician at Stony Brook Children’s Hospital," the hospital said in a statement Monday. "Our thoughts are with her family, friends and colleagues affected by this heartbreaking event."

It wasn't clear who else was in the house trailer with Woroniecka at the time she fell.

According to Woroniecka's profile page on Stony Brook's website, she has specialized in allergy-immunology since the early 2000s. Along with treating kids who have food, environmental and bee sting allergies, Woroniecka treated childhood asthma and skin conditions like eczema and hives. She also had experience evaluating kids for immunity disorders and frequent infections, and had a penchant for developing long-term relationships with families she treated.

Woroniecka enjoyed travel, hiking, exercising and spending time with family and friends, the page said.

Mexican TV outlet airs video of man’s testicles during solar eclipse coverage

  • Mexican news outlet accidentally airs man's testicle during solar eclipse coverage
  • Outlet was showing viewer-submitted footage of eclipse
  • X user claims responsibility for the incident

While the total solar eclipse brought darkness to North America and Mexico briefly on Monday, the coverage of the event has cast an even darker shadow on a Mexican news outlet which accidentally aired a man's testicle. The news outlet is receiving criticism online after a video of the coverage went viral.

Three anchors on RCG Media’s 24/7 news program were presenting viewer-submitted footage of the total solar eclipse when the clips on the screen cut to a man blocking out a source of light with his testicles.

As per the local La Vanguardia newspaper, it is a well-known prank in Latin America.

After the clip was aired, one of the two women anchors could be heard gasping in shock while her male colleague carried on.

The male anchor explained that the clips were submitted by viewers and he admitted that the desire to include people’s experiences can lead to embarrassing situations for broadcasters, according to the New York Post.

News channel accidentally airs testicles instead of eclipse in out-of-this-world live TV blunder

As millions looked on in awe at the eclipse that plunged parts of the world into complete darkness, one man used the opportunity to pull a once-in-a-lifetime prank.

The total solar eclipse on Tuesday was covered by broadcasters around the world , but the coverage from one news outlet in Mexico has now taken off thanks to an almighty on-air blunder .

That blunder: accidentally airing a video of testicles instead of the eclipse.

RCG Media was airing a segment about the eclipse on Tuesday when they asked viewers to send in their own images and videos of the phenomenon.

And it appears the viewer videos weren’t thoroughly checked, because one featured the sun beginning to go dark — before a pair of very close-up, hairy testicles began descending on the screen to block out the sun.

In a clip, three RCG anchors can be seen discussing the eclipse and watching impressive footage sent in from a viewer in Arizona, before the next video begins airing.

An amateur video of the eclipse

The anchor continues talking as the testicles descend, and while one female anchor gasps, it takes the other two a moment to realise what’s going on.

She gasps again and puts her hands on the desk as the male anchor continues talking — and then things continue on professionally.

Once the testicles have been removed from the screen, that is.

News anchors on RCG after the prank

While the RCG production team must have been scrambling and mortified at the time, it appears they now see a funny side of things, as the official news channel shared the clip to their own social media account.

They wrote, in a post translated from Spanish: ‘How did you see the #eclipse? Ours was….’ and they then shared two egg emojis, which placed together vaguely look like — well, you can guess.

The video has made its way across social media, and X users have been on the ball with puns and jokes — like user Western Lensman, who wrote ‘A testicular eclipse is not something I had on my Tuesday bingo card.’

The total solar eclipse on April 9, 2024

User Jim went all in as he said it was ‘ballsy of them to air that, it’s just nuts.’

Kevin M Nelson joked ‘somebody really dropped the ball on this one,’ and while some were disturbed, others apologised for ‘finding this hilarious’.

The shocking video sent in to the news channel first surfaced on social media during the 2017 total eclipse, but it appears some opportunist had the grand idea of getting it aired on national news seven years later.

The uncensored clip is available to watch on the official RCG Media X account — if you dare.

34-year-old pregnant mother was killed in crash involving police officer, family says

COLUMBIA, S.C. ( WIS /Gray News) - A 34-year-old pregnant mother was killed in a crash involving a Columbia, South Carolina, police officer on Monday afternoon, according to the woman’s family and their representative.

The family of Ashley Michelle Brown reached out to WIS on Tuesday to share her identity.

Relatives said Brown would have turned 35 on Tuesday.

Family members were able to confirm the color, make and model of the victim’s vehicle. They said Brown was six months pregnant and was supposed to have her baby shower the weekend of April 13.

Columbia police officer Derian Davis responded shortly after 3 p.m. on Monday to a shots fired call.

While on his way to the shooting scene at JT’s Kia on Greystone Boulevard , Davis was involved in a crash with Brown and a silver van at the intersection of North Main Street and Prescott Road, officials said.

According to the Columbia Police Department, everyone involved in the crash was taken to an area hospital.

Brown died from her injuries at the hospital, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The officer involved in the crash suffered a leg injury and underwent surgery on Tuesday, the police department said.

The driver of the silver van, identified as Jeffrie Griffin, was also injured in the crash. He hired attorney Hemphill Pride, who said he has taken on several similar cases against police departments.

Pride had a message to law enforcement.

“Remember, you are here to prevent and to protect public safety, not to be a part of the problem,” Pride said.

WIS spoke with Roger Brasley, a friend of Brown’s family, who shared what she was like.

“She was very outspoken, very loving. She was an awesome mother, awesome sister, awesome daughter, a beautiful friend,” Brasley said. “She was just a very gentle soul that if you didn’t know her, you should have.”

The Richland County Coroner’s Office said in a news conference that the fetus did not survive the crash.

“We went from planning a baby shower to planning a funeral, so its shell-shocking to be honest with you,” Brasley added.
