An Honest Review of Tripmasters.com

tripmaster travel reviews

Tripmasters.com is a full-service travel booking website that is undoubtedly the most impressive travel booking engine of any sort we’ve ever used. While not the “flashiest” user interface, the versatility of what you can do, why types of trips you can create, and how you can arrange your vacation is unmatched in our experience. I say that without hesitance, and despite the high praise, we want you to first understand that we are not being compensated in any way for writing this honest review of our experience with Tripmasters.com (and the sister website, europeandestinations.com ), having used their service around a dozen times over the past 6 years.

Table of Contents

How Tripmasters.com Got Started

When we start telling people about Tripmasters, which we do often, we nearly always get asked questions such as the following;

  • “How long have they been around?”
  • “Where do they have trips?”
  • “Is it hard to book a trip?”
  • “Where is Tripmasters based?”

The company started long before there was a Tripmasters.com, when in 1984 they began as a tour booking company assisting with tailor-made itineraries to South America – namely, Peru. Over that time, Tripmasters continued growing wildly as the internet burgeoned in the late 90s, and into the 2000s.

Today, Tripmasters offers trips to 6 of the world’s 7 continents, and remains a completely customizable platform for people trying to book trips. We’ve used the platform to book myriad trips to England, Scotland, Greece, Peru, Germany, Spain, France, Italy, Denmark, Ireland, Portugal, Austria, and many more, many of which we have visited through Tripmasters multiple times (such as England , which we’ve visited four times through the platform).

Is Tripmasters Trustworthy?

We can say, with absolute honesty, that we have never experienced a critical issue with Tripmasters.

When we normally ask if a website is trustworthy, we want to know;

  • Am I going to get what I pay for?
  • Will I be treated honestly?
  • Will I, in any way, be misled about the terms, service, or price?

I can emphatically support Tripmasters’ standards of quality. Their booking engine, which we’ll discuss, is straight forward. Customer service is fast, friendly, very communicative, and goes above and beyond what is asked of them. The terms of the itineraries, and their price schedule, is also easy to understand and remains consistent throughout the process.

What Options Do You Have With Tripmasters?

With Tripmasters, you essentially have two different ways to book trips. First, you can select one of their pre-organized, recommended itineraries, or secondly you can build your own from scratch.

To start, find an area where you can select specific locations. This can be done on the homepage by either using the dropdown that says “destinations”, or by selecting the hyperlinks that go to certain continent-specific areas of the website.

As you can see, there’s one for Europe, one for Asia, and so on.

tripmaster travel reviews

Once you select one of these areas and find the prompts to go to the location-specific on the Tripmasters interface where you want to book, you’ll see all of the suggested itineraries laid out for you to review. These are not anchored to any specific date (in most cases), but is, however structured in a suggested manner.

You will have the same option at the top of any page, however, to start building a trip that is truly custom – from scratch!

tripmaster travel reviews

This is the method we’ve used every time we’ve booked a trip through Tripmasters, and the one where we’ve saved the most money in the past. If you get creative enough with itineraries and potential travel options, you can save thousands while extending your trip several days, adding long, over-night layovers in interesting locations, and even paying super cheap prices for nice hotels in world-renown cities!

An Example of Tripmasters’ Value

Since it’s the example that requires a bit more of an example, we’ll discuss for a moment how to actually book a trip from scratch. In this example, we’ll book a trip leaving from Miami, Florida to visit London and Paris over 7 nights during the American Thanksgiving holiday.

First, build out the parameters accordingly with what you’re wanting to plan. See below for a representation of the example we discussed above.

tripmaster travel reviews

You’ll be asked to specify how your rooms should be arranged, how many people, and what method of transportation you would like between cities….

tripmaster travel reviews

… Before coming to a screen with your estimated price based on a suggestion of itineraries. These are all movable in terms of hotel and flight selection.

tripmaster travel reviews

Now, if you’ve ever traveled out of the country before, especially a week spent overseas during an American holiday with an additional person traveling with you, you probably know how inexpensive this really is. Especially considering that Tripmasters’ flights include;

  • International flights
  • Flights and/or train to connecting international cities
  • All hotels throughout the entire trip

Even if you haven’t been on this type of trip, I probably don’t have to tell you how silly it is that two people can spend a week in London and Paris for roughly the price of 5 XBOX consoles. This is why we love Tripmasters, have used them for years to book our trips, and will continue to.

That’s  $2,400  for two people in Europe – EVERYTHING INCLUDED!

The value is absolutely amazing.

Customer Service at Tripmasters

The customer service at Tripmasters is where the value really stands out. On some of our previous trips, there are minor changes with your itinerary that happen over months. Flights get moved, times get adjusted, etc.

Tripmasters not only notifies you of all these changes, but each time we’ve been approached about such a scenario, they’ve presented options that solved the issue at hand, leaving us only to confirm they’re suggested changes without having to pay a dime extra.

Overall, Tripmasters is the “cheat code” of travel from the United States. What’s even better is that they continue to expand their offerings – now including African safari trips , and even trips to the West Coast of the United States, including Las Vegas, San Francisco, and Los Angeles.

We’ll continue to use Tripmasters, and believe you should do the same. Stay tuned for specific reviews on our ongoing trips using Tripmasters and their amazing platform!

COVID-19 Caveat

I would be remiss without addressing the many complaints that Tripmasters.com received in the wake of the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. The reality is that many of the complaints were probably warranted, given the unimaginable complexity of the situation. We didn’t have a trip booked with Tripmasters at the time, so we cannot personally verify the issues people had in terms of getting refunds, changing bookings, and dealing with cancellations. We didn’t have that experience. With that being said, we know that what happened likely left many with a sour taste in their mouths, and who could blame them?

Conversely, I haven’t heard of any travel company who dealt with this well. Complaints were rampant for many of Tripmasters competitors, and we did in fact lose money on a flight booked through Expedia. Since the pandemic, and the gradual reopening of the world, however, a glance at reviews of most established travel booking companies such as Tripmasters will show that things have picked up, and many are receiving solid reviews again.

We can only stand by our personal experience with Tripmasters, or any other company, and have only had positive experiences.

I used Tripmasters for a trip to Belgium last summer and was very happy with the arrangements and customer service. It was nice to have someone do all the planning and call if I had issues, I just had to show up! 8 days in Belgium for 2 with airfare, hotels, transportation to and from airport and trains between the cities of Brussels, Bruge, and Ghent for around $3,000 was a great deal.

Glad you had such a great experience, Beth! It’s pretty great indeed – really can’t believe how inexpensive it can be!

We used tripmasters.com for a trip to London, Paris, Venice, and Rome. Ran into what could have been a couple of snags, but tripmasters took care of them before they became a problem. Our plane was delayed going to Paris. They contacted the hotel to let them know we would arrive late. Our plane from Venice to Rome was canceled. Tripmasters immediately let us know, providing us with another flight before we even knew of the problem. We have booked a trip to Amsterdam, Brussels, and back to Paris for this April. I have been very satisfied with the customer service and the accommodations have been as advertised. Will continue using the site.

Glad to hear you guys had a great trip! That’s a great itinerary too!

You;d be singing a different tune about how great Tripmasters is and their wonderful customer service if you were dealing with them right now, They are ripping off all their customers and refusing refunds. They should be expecting a class action lawsuit in the near future unless they get their customers the refunds they deserve! I would never recommend them after this fiasco! They will not answer emails or calls. They sent emails out saying they were processing customers trips only for people scheduled to depart with 72 hours and they would get back to me in that time frame. That was over 7 days ago and I haven’t heard a word from them since. They are literally stealing thousands of people money right now during a global pandemic. If they aren’t out of business after this it will be my mission to put them our of business. It is all about principle at this point. I hope they have cheap lawyers because mine are free and will make sure they pay one way or another! STAY AWAY and go read other reviews on other sites if you don’t believe what I am saying!

True, we don’t have anything booked with them right now so we haven’t been sure how they’re handling what’s going on. I hate that you’re having that kind of experience right now, and it’s certainly something we wouldn’t agree with or stand for. I hope they “right” the wrongs, because it’s been a great brand for a long time, and I’d hate to see them mess that up when it matters most. Please keep us posted on your experience, Dan.

TripMasters is the worse…..they should be ashamed of themselves and the poor customer service and fraudulent activity they are conducting during this pandemic crisis by taking people’s hard earned money and not supplying refunds or credits. This is unacceptable and I will continue to write a bad review on every site I can so people know not to use them. Absolutely horrible!!

I’ve heard a few other complaints dealing with the refund issues and Coronavirus. We’re going to add a disclaimer at the top of the article, because obviously don’t support giving people a hard time paying them back refunds they’re owed, but we also don’t know each situation in depth. Our experiences were always positive.

Having the same problem with trying to get a refund for a trip schedule for July. Received a letter from TM listing all penalties (almost $3,000) and amount of credit ($1,300) to be applied should I rebook my trip within 24 months. Paid nearly $5,000 for the trip! Also paid for travel insurance that supposedly would allow me to cancel my trip for any reason, however this is not the case. There is whole list of reasons that are not covered by the policy (Allianz). Complete rip off by both companies. They should be ashamed of themselves! Class act coming their way in the near future for sure.

The same here. I have used Tripmasters several times in the past. Last time I used them was this past year 2019 December for my anniversary to visit Paris, Barcelona and again Venice that I love so much… and it was always a positive experience. So positive I booked a flight for July to go back to Paris and Belgium and see Netherlands, this time with my dad who has never been to Europe because he is an old school, blue collar, so sweet Dominican guy. He always flew back home and that was really it… then he retired in 2013 and he and mom promised to start a new adventure…turns out mom died of pancreatic cancer in 2016 and they never went anywhere. After that life has been VERY HARD for us as a family. I have tried to keep happy but is not easy being without my mom imagine him without his wife of 43 years. But we have fought… and I got to take him to Ecuador in 2017… and he liked it and it opened his appetite for traveling. He is so cute and looks great he is 69. So this was a dream for him… but COVID 19 came and we cannot travel. He stays in the Dominican Republic some months and then comes back here, but his flight was canceled. He could not come.. THIS IS WHERE TRIPMASTERS NIGHTMARE COMES IN…Called them in March…. they do nothing… called them in April…did nothing…called in May, now in June… and NOTHING!!! They are playing stupid…they give you the run around and keep in waiting,.. in anxiety…without knowing if you will just miss a flight and lose everything…if you will get anything….if they will rebook you…YOU DON’T KNOW! There customer service staff is not equipped at all…they are not helpful…they just stall, stall and stall some more…THAT IS IT!!! Tripmasters have gone WILD… They have been obviously borrowing from Peter to pay John and so forth. They have not funding. They lie! LIE LIKE NOTHING! Saying that their vendors change policy month by month, and when you reach out to the hotels and the airlines you chose, they all are issuing refunds, so who are they working for? who are these vendors??? are they drug dealers?? I don’t understand… so yeah… you will continue to get crazy posts, because people are hurting and really upset and when they see a good review on tripmasters…well, it hurts…

I hate to hear how things have gone with Tripmasters for so many recently. While I can’t verify the reasonings behind each one, I hope they work to remedy the situations.

“Wonderful trip to Rome/Florence/Venice”

written by Marcos1991 on 19/08/2022

Family of five, finishing trip to Italy, and had a wonderful time. All of the accommodations exceeded our expectations and most included a nice breakfast and were a whole apartment or guest house flat. The price was excellent. We changed a train and used chat function and it was easy to chat with a live agent and get it changed. They sent us a packet of all of our vouchers to print before departure and it all worked out seemlessly. We did our own tours but did air, trains and rooms through them. Excellent! Would definitely recommend them. We are going to try them again for Egypt in January.

“Absolutely terrible. Stay FAR away.”

written by Greenwood275 on 26/05/2022

Let me start by saying I've booked multiple vacations, including my honeymoon, using TripMasters. The savings and convenience of multi-city trips are great, until the second something goes wrong. I was on a trip to Italy when my grandma passed away and I had to re-route my flights to Poland to attend her services. Because I booked through TripMasters, I was not able to do so directly through the airline but had to work through TripMasters. They made this an absolute nightmare. I had to prove the death of my grandmother, get her death certificate translated to English because they could not accept the Polish one (and this is an international travel agency?!). On top of this, I had to pay incremental $350 per ticket to change my flights, and was only able to select routes on specific airlines due to TripMasters agreement with these airlines- making the travel back a nightmare with a 7 hour layover. TripMasters claimed the hotel that I was no longer staying in due to my trip being cut short was unrefundable, despite my pleas for them to request an exception due to a death. I emailed the hotel myself and they immediately agreed to a refund, which I had to then forward to TripMasters as proof- clearly showing they were trying to keep my money and blaming the hotel. On top of this, TripMasters refuses to share the breakdown with you of how much you pay for each part of your trip, making it impossible to know what you are owed in refunds. To make matters worse, my husband got COVID on the trip and had to delay his return back to the US. After a month of chasing a refund for an entirely un-used flight, TripMasters refunded us $53. For a flight from Warsaw to Newark, claiming that we "partially used" the trip therefore this was the best the airline could do. Please, save yourself the money and pain and book direct through airlines. Any decent supplier will work with you to issue a refund or at the very least a credit under these circumstances, but TripMasters hides the true amounts you spend, blames their suppliers for not issuing money you are owed, and is completely inhumane during difficult circumstances. Will never, ever, ever be using them again.

“Worst Travel Agency”

written by raj11791 on 19/12/2021

I booked first time with Tripmasters . The agent is no good at all. We took 5 cities in Spain. We had hotel room’s problems in Cordoba & Granada .we got very small rooms with no air-conditioned working /no place to keep our 3 bags. Hotel turned on heat on night time & we were sweating in room. I went front desk to change room, but instead told me they got very less money for my booking & cannot help. We sleep 2 nights in each city (total 4) without air-conditioned. They told 3-4 star hotels but reality not even 1 or zero stars. I called tripmasters after came back to get me compensation for inconvenience. Instead helping the agent telling that it was preplanned to get refund. She was rude & unprofessional / hangs up my phone call. Also airline broke my luggage on Madrid. I did complaint to Iberia Airline. As per them booking was done via travel agent so contact for baggage claim. Also they refuse to give my travel insurance cancelation amount & when I filed dispute with my credit card company they refund. They will not get my booking any more also will tell to stay away this Tripmasters. Everything was overpriced including hotels .which is very cheap when checked personally. They take more money & pay less also they do not give customer relation number. AVOID THIS TRIPMASTERS & YOU WILL SAVE MORE. This company has Zero star.

“Horrible experience with TripMasters”

written by xlDunlap27 on 11/08/2021

Had booked my flight with hotel with TripMasters, And there was a flight change in our inbound leg and TripMasters gave us a horrible time changing the flights. They did not help us at all changing the flights, even though the Airlines was ready to change due to Pandemic situation and since they had cancelled some flights. TripMasters are horrible do not waste your money and time with them.

“Love using Tripmaster for European travel!!!”

written by LynnFarrar on 15/06/2021

I have been on two trips I planned through tripmaster, both were amazing! One was for 9 people, who all LOVED it! We did Paris and Nice. So easy to navigate and change hotels or days you want to stay in a city. Also, planned my honeymoon to 3 Greek islands, also amazing! If you know where you want to go and are confident traveling abroad, Tripmaster is a great option and VERY reasonably priced for what you get!!! Getting ready to book a trip to 3 cities in Italy and will use Tripmaster for the third time!!!

“TRY FOR A REFUND”

written by GavenKoenig on 08/07/2020

In Feb 2020 booked a trip to Poland and France Included air fair, hotels and train from Poland to Paris. Air tickets were canceled by airline. Borders were closed by Poland and France. We have spoken with Trip Masters on numerous occasion and have been told Hotels and Air France have not refunded fares. My family members booked a similar trip through Liberty Travel and have had all fares refunded. It would appear that Trip Masters is trying to stonewall their customers by holding refunds and blaming their vendors and agents.

“Worst travel agent on the planet! Terrible customer...”

written by MosheMitchell141 on 03/04/2020

Tripmasters changed our flight itinerary 3 times after we booked our package to Spain. Each time they blamed it on the airlines and would not not take responsibility for the burdensome changes. Nor would they help us over the phone or by email with any kind of compensation for our inconvenience. Our flight from Madrid to Barcelona took 13 hours from hotel room to hotel room, with a connection through London. Yes I know, what?? We left our hotel in Madrid at 7 am, and arrived at our hotel in Barcelona at 9 pm, 13 hours later. Thanks for a miserable trip TripMasters!

“Unsafe Trip Masters Accommodations”

written by on 31/12/2019

Very disappointed in this company's service. I was booked in a bed and breakfast with no hot water. This is completely unacceptable. Trip Masters is providing customers with accommodations that do not have basic amenities such as hot water. Avoid this company at all costs.

“The worst ”

written by KeonMcDowell on 04/06/2017

Can't even give them one star. My husband and I booked with tripmasters in March and when it came time to go on our trip, I was denied boarding because my passport expired in 3 months, or within 90 days of return. Tell me why tripmasters accepted my payment information along with my passport information, including my expiration date, if I couldn't even go on the trip! What has ensued since has been pathetic to say the least. A representative who works at TripMaster, informed me that her supervisors were to be in The next day at 10 am. I called and was informed that neither of them would be in to work until Tuesday, in which case they would call me right away. I was told on Saturday when I called, that I "misheard" because neither of them were in until Tuesday. Here's the first account of where tripmasters insistently blamed us. It wasn't until a three way call that she clarified and said "she forgot it was Friday." How convenient of her to forget! Fast forward to Tuesday (no call from Tripmasters), Wednesday (no call from Tripmasters) Thursday, when my husband called to finally speak to Wara where she informed us that there was nothing she could do and that she would not pass our call to her supervisor (interesting customer service coming from a customer service representative). Wara also admitted on the call that this has happened to many customers before! She even suggested that we rebook! Wow! With what money Wara? The money you already cashed from the trip we couldn't go on? Disgraceful. I will never work with this company again. They blame the customer and insist there is nothing they can do. Zero stars.

“Poor business practices”

written by Karissa1945 on 05/05/2017

I booked a trip to Australia and locked in the price only to get an email the next day saying the airline raised its price the next day. I wad also misquoted travel insurance price. Total cost to try to rip me off 1026.04. I tried to cancel the trip as I did not approve the final credit card transaction but they charged the card and am still fighting for my refund.

“Easy traveling”

written by Fitzsimmonsqi135 on 04/05/2017

I just returned from my trip to London and Paris for a great price that I couldn't find anywhere else(I did a lot of searching). The website also made it easy to customize the flights and hotel choices. We had a wonderful trip with no glitches. We were kept informed with email reminders and given all forms to print out. Their mobile app is also easy to use and very helpful. I have already recommended Tripmasters to my family and friends and we look forward to using them again.

“ After enjoying 3 economically great vacations, I...”

written by Christie61 on 12/03/2017

After enjoying 3 economically great vacations, I would recommend trip masters, and already have to all of my co-workers, family, and others. The flights are well structured, locations of hotels great, easy to book, and great value. However, after recently booking a trip and expected to leave in less than a week, our trip was cancelled by them. The trip was booked a little over one week out and on a weekend, Saturday. We were delighted to be able to book with ease and great price. We were given a booking number, flight schedules, hotels and dates which we printed out. That weekend was spent researching surroundings, day trips, and places to eat. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE CHECK YOUR EMAIL!!!!!! We work long shifts, and the next two days were work, sleep, and sweet dreams of our planned time together and trip. After checking my email on Wed. morning, my day off. I was disheartened to find that our trip had been cancelled on Tuesday evening @ 410pm. Our trip was cancelled after more than 48 hour out. Trip masters had attempted to email Mon. @ 6pm and Tue 11am, with also a message to phone at that time. I worked both those days 7a-7p. They gave us less than 24 hours to reschedule hotel, due to overbooking. Surely this was a mistake, so after calling Trip master found this to be true. They had cancelled our trip due to overbooking at both hotels. We found there was availability at these hotel online, but still our trip was cancelled due to overbooked. They explained they don't work weekends, and didn't have any more spots with their company. That is probably how they can offer such great rates. Trip masters did make an effort with a higher price, locations of not our interest, and dates outside of our scheduled vacation time. Yes, I would book with them again, even through this great disappointment. However, I would check my email and phone every day, as changes can be made. I would also make sure in addition to a booking number, that I would have a reservation number, which wasn't known about then.

WE BOOKED A VACATION WITH THIS COMPANY FOR $8600. ONCE THEY CHARGED MY CARD, THEY ALTERED MY SCHEDULE TO A DIFFERENT FLIGHT WITHOUT OUR CONSENT WHICH WE COULD NOT DO. WE COMMUNICATED WITH THEM TELLING THEM THIS NEW TIME WAS NOT WHAT WE SIGNED UP FOR AND THUS WE WOULD LIKE OUR MONEY BACK. THE ANSWER WE RECEIVED FROM THE SUPERVISOR OF THE OPERATION WAS "TOO BAD" STAY AWAY FROM THIS NO GOOD COMPANY. DO NOT BE FOOLED BY THE SELF MADE 4 AND 5 STAR REVIEWS.

I planned a multi destinations trip to Europe through Tripmasters and had nothing but a wonderful experience. The transportations from the airports to the hotels were always on time and pleasant. Our plain and train travels were smooth and without any problems. All the hotels that we stayed at were at great locations with friendly and helpful staff, free Wifi and included breakfast. Tripmasters made it easy for me to plan this family vacation and we enjoyed our trip and recommend Tripmasters for planning your vacations.

“We love TripMasters”

We booked a trip to Italy with Trip Masters and they were wonderfully supportive throughout the process. We read everything closely and followed everything the way they instructed and bought the trip. However, my husband came down with pneumonia around 2 weeks previous and could not recover before departing, so we had to cancel the whole thing. Trip Masters was outstanding! They worked hard to review our case and refund everything back to us in increments (whenever they received refund money from their affiliates they credited it to us right away), and what little they could not refund, Travel Insured International covered and reimbursed us. We are grateful for the professionalism in both companies, respect of their customers, and dedication to our agreement. Thank you Trip Masters and Travel Insured International!

Tripmasters.com and Solar tours is the worst travel co I have ever dealt with. Not only do you get someone in the Philippians when you call customer service they give you the run around when you ask for supervisor. I booked a flight to Europe through them. They select the connecting flights based on your selected departure time. They offer an airline in my home town ( which happens to be be a very larger 2 busiest in the US) and this airline has NO COUNTER to even check in and I cant check in online cause Brussels airline doesn't allow it since it was booked through travel co. I get a flight out of home town to Washington and have an hour to deboard and get checked in to a INTERNATIONAL flight. I called airline and they said I must check in at second airport . Less than an hour to get off plane find gate and check in for international flight isn't acceptable. They are complete idiots and wont rectify this and I was told I needed to pay $350 to change this. I will never say one good thing about this company to anyone I know and meet while I travel . They take your money and screw you over. This co is based out of Maryland. I paid by credit card and a week and half later I get fraud on my account from Maryland. Charged to a hotel cant get supervisor in USA to help. This company should be shut down.

Although we appreciate that review Centre allows individuals to express their personal experiences, these are anonymous and unsubstantiated reviews. We would have been happy to address this customers issues, but there is no way to identify them. We are constantly working to improve our booking process, and alert passengers of potential issues with their selections. Alerts are always supplied to alert passengers of short connection times. Booking flights in real time is extremely dynamic, and we try to provide as much guidance as possible to prevent passengers from choosing inappropriate flights, and encourage them not to choosing flights solely on the basis of price. We are not a traditional travel agency. These are not static group tour packages. We provide customers the opportunity to build their own multi-detination itineraries, or customize our suggested packages; choosing from vast numbers of flights, hotels, and tour options in real time. When booking online it's always important to choose carefully, but in most cases this is a service that people love. For those that find it difficult to navigate online, our agents are available 24 hours a day to assist. If the issues with these flight connections were not clear, we apologize, and will work harder to give customers more informed decisions. In terms of the airline, and the fees, although it may have been easy to miss the connection times, it would not be possible to ignore the airline the customer chose and fees charged by airlines for changes or cancellations are industry standard, and imposed by them, not us. We encourage customer to post honest and relevant reviews, unfortunately I believe the displeasure in expressed here are misplaced.

This experience doesn't seem right. I'll be traveling to Europe with my children. And if this ever happened to my family, I'd be very upset.

“LOVE TRIPMASTERS....STAY AWAY FROM JAPAN AIRLINES”

written by JapanAirlinesSucks on 28/03/2015

The hotels, transfers, tours, and all associated with TripMasters was superb! For the money we paid, we were impressed with our amenities. Unfortunately we had a costly mistake and missed a connecting flight in Japan. Mark was wonderful in assisting us as much as he could, as he talked directly with Delta Airlines and Japan Airlines to work out a solution. Although Japan Airlines showed no interest in trying to create a solution for our dilemma and caused an even bigger headache, Mark did as much as he could to minimize the damage and attempted to negotiate on our behalf. He even submitted a compliant to the airline for their terrible customer service, on our behalf. We appreciated his patience, diligence, and efforts to salvage as much of our trip as possible. Needless to say, our trip was one that we'll never forget, some good and some bad, but at least we had a travel rep that was available to provide us with much needed assistance. The next time we travel, we will look for deals with TripMasters. We'll just know to stay away from any flights dealing with Japan Airlines (they are some terrible, rude, and insensitive people).

Scheduled European Honeymoon GOT SCREWED!

Scheduled European Honeymoon to leave last weekend in April for 2 weeks. I paid for the NO FAULT insurance. Needless to say I told them to cancel my trip when they emailed. Then they emailed again saying taking people 72 hours out and I had to wait. Well its over 72 after we were to have departed and I haven't heard anything. I am going to charge it back on the Credit card hopefully in full. I see they have a corporate address and if I DO NO RECEIVE my money refunded IN FULL they might just be getting a not so socially distanced visit from me in person! Stay away from this company. I will be giving the negative reviews on any and all sites I can find online and the BBB better not have them as A+ after all this! NO SERVICES RENDERED, NO CHARGES and FULL REFUNDS should be expected. Especially if you bought insurance. I see on their site they are running this time frame scam where if you were to travel in between certain dates they will try to get you a maximum refund from THEIR providers and the rest will be made up in travel credits for your next trip. You know the one you will never want to use this company to plan after this BS!! I started a Change.org petition, Time to turn up the heat on these scumbags. If they aren't out of business after this they certainly should be. No telling how many millions of dollars these crooks have essentially stolen. But you never know in 30-6- days we might get 25% refunded, joy joy! Shut this place down. It will be my mission if I am not made whole with a full refund. TripBasturds would be a better name!

Be cautious if booking more than one room

I reviewed here bc the Tripmasters site will not process my review. This is our second time using Tripmasters. We booked our summer vacation last year to Hawaii and I was blown away at how seamless and easy things were and the accommodations were outstanding and exactly as described. This time we booked to Japan and an island in Okinawa (Miyakojima). Our issue was that we need 2 rooms. We have 6 in our party bc we have 4 children. We are used to always booking two rooms, and did not have any issues when booking our Hawaii trip. I’m not sure if it was because this one was international, but we had major booking issues from the start with this trip due to needing 2 rooms. The entire reason we added the island to our Japan trip was because we were blown away by the resort there. So, we decided to spend 5 days there in place of another city or two in Japan. Well, only one of our rooms was immediately confirmed. We waited days for the final confirmation for our 2nd room and finally called because I saw that the only other resort that was comparable was no longer available just a few days later. Our fear was confirmed that they could only provide one room. Your representatives were very helpful and tried everything to assist us, but there was simply nothing they could do. I actually wanted to just cancel that whole part of the trip because now we only had accommodations for 3 out of the 6 of us. The closest place you could find was in the middle of the island and was a 3 star resort and we chose this as a beach destination at a 5 star resort. We ended up having to book our own hotel which was several miles from our booked room. So for the 5 days we had to stay in completely different resorts. So, I am very hesitant to book through you again because it didn’t just happen here, it happened at our hotel in Tokyo also! Only one room was immediately confirmed. We again waited days for the 2nd room to be confirmed as we watched other available options disappear. But, we were stuck waiting. When we called about our other hotel addressed this one as well, so I do t know how long we would have waited if we didn’t contact you. The only way you were able to book us a second room was by putting the 2nd room in a smoking room. When we are paying for a 5 star hotel, I certainly don’t want to “settle” for a smoking room with our asthmatic son. I’m not sure how you could fix this issue with larger families that need two rooms, but when you plan your whole trip and spend hours looking at details of each accommodation and then end up with something totally different, it is not worth the risk. But, in every other way you have been fabulous. Ps. Your new app was amazing and so well done! I really enjoyed that feature, which was not available during our trip last year.

Terrible experience

tldr: I am never going to use this agency again and I would advise anyone else to plan their trip themselves to avoid the hassle and extra charges. My girlfriend and I had decided to use this site for our Scotland trip, because we thought it would make it easier to consolidate the bookings for all the different cities we were going to. Unfortunately, the day after we booked everything with tripmaster, one of our managers disapproved our vacation time, which was previously approved. So we tried to move our trip two weeks further out. Tripmaster refused to help us even though the trip was scheduled for over 5 months in the future and we had booked it the previous day(on a Sunday and not even 12 hours had passed). They would not refund any of our money, because it was "non-refundable", even though we didn't want a refund; we just wanted to reschedule. After calling and emailing multiple times, tripmaster finally agreed to make the change, if I was able to get all the hotels to agree to the changes. I spent the next few days emailing and calling the hotels in Scotland and spending extra money for international calls in order to get the documents they asked for. The hotels themselves were very accommodating and said it should not be a problem because we are giving them so much advanced notice. Which was the complete opposite story than what tripmaster told us. They said the hotels would not agree to making the change. Even then it took them weeks to finally update our trip. I had to email and call tripmasters multiple times before they finally responded with an update. Then, they had the audacity to charge us an extra $1k, which they claim was the difference in flight ticket prices, when I was the one that had to do all of the leg work. They even changed our flights in such a way that we would land and would not have a place to stay the first night and I had to book an extra night at the hotel on my own anyway.

Horrible, just horrible

Several years ago, I had a lovely trip to Greece and booked through European destinations (now tripmasters!). I had such a good experience, I booked a trip to Italy with them, to leave in August. NEVER AGAIN! Unfortunately, due to COVID, Delta cancelled my flight. I called Delta, and they said that I am entitled to a FULL REFUND because the plane cannot physically go to Italy, but i have to go through tripmasters. I contacted tripmasters and they said that not only are they not giving me a refund (they will offer a credit which I have to wait months to receive, as my trip leaves in August and they wont do anything until right before) So I said okay, I'd like to use the insurance that I purchased- which states that I can cancel for any reason and get 80% back. They told me this doesn't apply to COVID, they actually suggested if i go through insurance I should LIE to get my money back from the insurance company. Last but not least, they will still be billing me for the final payment of $600 in July, knowing full well i cant go on the trip. I called American Express to see what my options are. American Express informed me that i have to play by the rules of tripmaster, or they can't get my money back because tripmasters will dispute it since they are technically still "working with me" If the refund offer is reasonable, they suggested i take it. However, if the company either folds before I can use my credit, or the credit isn't good for a reasonable length of time (Amex said it has to be good for a minimum of 2-3 years) If i wait, and the offer can't be used or they go bankrupt, American express will get my my money back, no questions asked. If i cancel now, I would most likely get nothing. So they are collecting interest for MONTHS on my $3000. Taking advantage of people during a crisis. Absolutely Ridiculous. WHEN i rebook my trip, it will be direct, even if it does cost more. I hope after all this waiting, American express can get my money back.

I don't even give them 1 star

I don't even give them 1 star, the worst travel agency ever! I have been trying to cancel my trip due to the COVID-19, and they told me to wait, it would automatically cancel and I would be eligible for a full refund, so once my trip came and went, I contacted them, because they did not contact me, they told me policies recently changed, and no refund would be given to me, only credit for 2 years that I might never even use, this is the first time I use TripMasters and definitely the last time, I'm so glad they have terrible reviews, that way people will think twice before using them!

We paid for a trip and lost all our money

We paid for a trip to Europe that we had to modify once we got there due to the COVID pandemic. The day we arrived they instilled the travel ban. We had arrived in Spain which was now a level 3 risk County for COVID19 and were advised to leave. We decided to go to London which was still considered safe. We were not able to use any of the services we had originally purchased through Tripmasters and had to continue the trip out of pocket. The only thing we were able to use through Tripmasters were the international flights we had purchased through them. Some of the hotels we had booked, guided trips, transport, and transfers we were told by Tripmasters were unrefundable. Some others were eligible to be refunded. At the end of the trip we were informed we would be receiving $840 back from those bookings that were confirmed to be refundable while some of the other bookings were still pending refund approval. Although we lost several thousand dollars we agreed to the small refund and to wait for further refund approval from the other bookings. We were informed the money would be refunded to pur account in 3 business days. When the money was not refunded we contacted them. We were informed the money could take as long as 5 business days. After 5 business days we called back and were told they were having delays due to the large number of refunds pending to please give them a few more days. Two weeks after our trip we called to follow up and ask about the refund. We were told we were not going to be getting a refund after all because the policies had changed and now we would only be able to receive a credit for some of the money we had paid. This company was extremely difficult to get a hold of while traveling. They are deceitful, they do not have anyone to speak to when you request a supervisor. They give inconsistent answers to questions and in conclusion simply take your money and steal it. They do not provide the services promised. When i tried to leave a negative review on their website it would not allow me to do so.

We booked our Hawaii trip a year ago…

We booked our Hawaii trip a year ago for February 2022. We got to Honolulu and it all seemed fine. We were suppose to stay at the Hawaiian Hilton Village but they had us at the hotel on the back side. The hotel wasn’t that great in appearance. We spent 6 nights there before heading to Maui. That is where the problems started. We were at the rental car agency and found out the reservation was cancelled a few days prior without knowing who cancelled it. We were told by trip masters we would need to pay for it out of our pocket and give them the receipts. It was a nightmare. We spent hours trying to get a car. Then we get to the hotel and there were two rooms and they put us in completely different buildings which was a problem as we were with elderly people. They hotel finally got us in the same building but different floors. We stayed there for 4 nights and moved on to Kona and had the same problems with that hotel. Ended up staying 3 nights. When we checked out we found out there was a charge for $80 for a fee that we were not told prior. When we checked out and got to the airport we found our flight was cancelled and we were told we would need to stay for 3 additional days because there were no flight available. I immediately called trip masters and was told nothing they can do. Spent an hour trying to figure out how we were gonna get to Florida since my husband and I both work. With no help from trip masters we made it to LA and sat for 6 hours at 2am in the airport. We finally got hours 13 hours later. I emailed Trip Masters with the issues and now we are in October and still no word but that they are working on it. I gave receipts to them as well to show our proof. I’m disappointed because of all the money we spent on a vacation that they were to plan and book for us and we had so many issues. I will never use them again and will not recommend them.

TRIPMASTERS IS TRIPPING!

BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY- all indications point to this company setting up to pull a major scam by keeping clients money and getting ready to go out of business in my opinion. My 79 year old mother and myself planned a Italy/France vacation for her granddaughter. We purchased the plane tickets(United), and hotel for France, and train tickets from Italy to France through Tripmasters. The plane tickets were nonrefundable, the hotel refundable, Tripmasters never actually purchased the train tickets. We made our own hotel reservations for Italy because the hotel we wanted to stay in was not partnered with Tripmasters. We purchased February 1st or 2nd for June 7 departure. When all travel to Italy stopped we started trying to call Tripmasters and could not get through to anyone. So we disputed the charges via visa credit card. It only took Tripmaster 2 days to respond with a nasty e-mail telling us to drop our dispute and wait until closer to our departure date to see what the traveling status would be or they would dispute our dispute and win and at that point charge us $1600 in penalties, so we dropped the dispute and waited. A week, give or take a couple days, before departure date we received a email from Tripmasters Europe stating that they were not going to issue any monetary refunds but give travel vouchers good for 1 year from date of purchase, which is unexceptable. We can only travel in june due to the granddaughter's schooling. United is currently either giving vouchers good for, I think 2 or 3 years from date of departure for nonrefundable plane tickets. They maybe refunding the money. We are confused on that as between the news and what we find on United's website it seems to change policies. But definitely not a year from purchase date. We responded to Tripmasters email and asked them to clarify the email stating they would only issue vouchers for a year from purchase because that was unexceptable. They responded in a couple days with a email that totally contradicted the previous one, stating that they were currently in line with the airlines and only giving voucher no refunds good for 2 years from date of purchase. And a lot of smoke blowing about Tripmasters being committed to getting the best for their customers. And that they had canceled all reservations with hotels and airlines for our booking, but they did not give any dollar amounts for what the vouchers would be good for. First of all they never bought any train tickets so they are holding that money. The hotel was refundable with no penalties so they are holding around $2000 for that. And holding either the airline vouchers or refunds for over $4000. For treating an old woman and man like this they should be paraded down the streets with signs around their necks with the word "SHAME" on it. And made to refund every dime of that money they are withholding from this old womans hard earned retirement, causing her undue stress and anxiety.

DIRTY GAMES

Same here! I started using Tripmasters a while back because they do give you good discounts and deals. And besides the ocassional weird drafted emails and last minute changes, it has never been a big issue. BUT OH BOY NOW! I have a trip that leaves on July 3rd and they are telling me to wait. I called April, May and now June and now I see that they are just playing stupid. Apparently they simply don't have the money! They guy this time told me the same things the others said: "We will try to get back as much as we can"... And today i thought: what??? At first I am thinking about administrative fees, but something told me to do more research and I found this page! I am writing complaints everywhere!! These people are just simply headed for bankruptcy... I have been in the financial education, business officer, financial literacy, you name it field and I already know what this means! They seem to be making less than reputable connections and now they simply cannot get the money they spent and have been charged... because for my trip all my legs are delta, and since i am a gold member with them they already told me i can cancel this flight with no fees and may I add that Delta and Jetblue have been super kind and understanding...so I dont know what the problem could be since all hotels know we have COVID 19!!!! why would they not like to cancel for services not rendered? For people not showing up??? And this was a trip to EUROPE! and i know they do not want more sickness there so I KNOW THEY ARE LYING! I am not sure on what is the problem with them but when I told the guy today that they should be a bit more clear on what the terms are, he tried to make me feel stupid by telling me that I NEED TO READ TERMS AND CONDITIONS BEFORE I SIGN!!! To which I told him: Well, there is a reason why under most insurance contracts there are exemptions for what is called Act of God or Acts of Nature and this is definitely one of them!!! He felt stupid. But the point is. Skip the headache. Called your credit card company especially if you have a great paying history and tell them the truth: You may or may not see some of that money and in this economy THAT IS NOT AN OPTION...LETS PUSH THIS WE NEED TO SUE!

Worst Experience I've ever had

Before the pandemic we planned a trip to Italy but had to shelf it until Italy reopened to tourists from America. We had a credit voucher from TripMasters so we made another plan with the credit. Some of the hotels weren't available anymore so we looked them up and checked reviews if they had them. We had a past favorable experience from using TripMasters so we harbored a bit of trust as well. I'm not sure I can say enough to warn people about how that trust was completely broken as this trip progressed. Our trip consisted of 5 days in Venice, 5 days in Florence, 5 days in Rome and 6 days in Sorrento. Our hotel in Venice had no a/c during a heat wave and the fan that we begged for was permanently on low. I considered buying a new fan and donating it to them. Florence hotel I couldn't check in or do anything without installing "what's app" and Salto ks on my phone while standing with 2 bags waiting outside with no wifi in the hot sun. Our reception desk wasn't open except 3 or 4 hours of the day so if we had a problem it was our problem. Rome we should have got the hint when the taxi wouldn't take us to the hotel but only a few blocks from it. It was in skid row. We also couldn't get a taxi to come pick us up to take us away from it. Shifty people hanging around outside as well as (bums/homeless/mental encampments) While we were waiting for a taxi that never showed up a sketchy "unhoused person" was screaming things at us. It was pretty rough. That hotel also had no smoke alarms in the room and only gave clean towels on the 3rd day we were told or else we had to pay extra 1.58 euro/towel. Housekeeper picked up our dirty towels from the floor and hung them back up in the bathroom in whatever order she saw fit. Gross, now I'm possibly using my friend's towel? When I told Tripmasters that I didn't feel safe and was leaving after 2 days for another hotel they said there was no refund which the hotel also told me when I said I was checking out 3 days early. I told them I didn't feel safe and the towel situation just added to my not being able to stay there. Oh, and btw that isn't the only call or chat I tried to make to Tripmasters during the trip. They are only available from 8am to midnight ET (eastern time) which wasn't available for me most of the times when I needed to get hold of them since I was in Italy. Next our last stay was Sorrento and we had a rental car to drive ourselves down there. It was small but fit our bags (only 2 of us) but was a manual transmission which I do know how to drive. Tripmaster's made sure to find a place to return the car close to the airport in Naples where we were to fly out on our last day. I said we had to return it probably before they open so I need to make sure there is a way to do that. I don't want getting stuck with a bill for a rental car. I did pay extra for insurance in case of theft or whatever. Just so you know, the return place is not close to the airport and hauling luggage to the airport on cobblestone and crappy cement is longer than you want or need on your early morning exit from Italy. Our last hotel was actually nice but that is because after the Rome incident I booked a different hotel through booking.com because I didn't even trust Tripmasters hotels anymore. The staff was kind and helpful but then, Tripmasters didn't have anything to do with this hotel. I paid an extra $1700 for this nice room for 6 days that included breakfast and dinner in Sorrento. To add to our crappy trip, when we got to the airport our airline tickets were screwed up and we needed an agent to fix the whole thing up for 3 hops from Naples, Italy to Frankfort, Germany to Vancouver, Canada to San Francisco, California. Over 26 hours of flying with excessive layovers and terrible seats that weren't able to be upgraded even at the beginning months before the trip started. To wrap it up, if you use Tripmasters you are taking a real risk in many areas. In finding a safe hotel (nope), in getting an easy rental car experience (nope) in getting a fast, easy and relatively comfortable flight to and from (big nope). I feel robbed of my great Italy vacation because Tripmasters handled everything.

I'd recommend a different travel company

We booked a trip to Italy in February 2021. There were very good values available that I assume was due to the pandemic situation. We booked a vacation to Italy that consisted of 3 nights in each of Venice, Florence, and Rome. Due to the value, we made the following upgrades to the itinerary. We upgraded the air transportation to business class for all flights. We upgraded the rail transportation to first class coaches. We upgraded the accommodations in Rome because we desired a specific hotel available in their list. We also booked all of our touring activities through Trip Masters. When the original booking was made, not only did we book business class but we also booked efficient transportation minimizing layovers. This included 2 layovers, one being an international location, on the flights to Italy. However, we specifically worked to ensure that we had a direct flight from Rome to the US. After having "confirmed" tickets for all transportation and "confirmed" reservations for the tours, a month before the departure we began receiving emails indicating that unfortunately there were modifications required to our itinerary. Here is where the "fun" began... First, after 6 months of having "confirmed" airfare we began receiving correspondence indicating issues with the "confirmed" air itinerary. The route going to Italy was changed with comparable routing. However, later we were informed that our direct flight from Rome to Chicago was no longer available. When I checked the airline website, the flight was still showing on the airlines schedule. Trip Masters only response to this information indicated that there was no business class seats available. They had no response when I asked how that was possible since we had been "confirmed" since February other than to say that their supplier had indicated that there were no seats available. The company "offered" a couple alternate routes. Their first option introduced additional international layovers. One option was a direct flight from Rome to Dallas (DFW). After authorizing that option, I was soon contacted and informed that this option had no business class seats available. Three new options were made available with their first option having a TEN-hour layover at an international destination! Only one option offered reasonable layover times but had an international layover in Spain. I again authorized this modification, which is what was ultimately confirmed. Second, as we approached the departure date, we received an email from Trip Masters indicating that one of the tours we had booked (a small group tour) was no longer available from their supplier but a private tour option was available for an additional $400! Our original cost was around $180. When I contacted Trip Masters, they would only confirm that the original tour was no longer available and asked if I would like to accept the substitute tour with the additional cost. I had already opened their online tour packages that could be added and identified an identical small group tour with a similar company that was actually $28 cheaper than the original! Oh my, wasn't that interesting. So, the change was made to the package resulting in Trip Masters owing us $28. Note that at the time of this review we have yet to receive the refund! Third, as we neared the departure and it was time to print our travel vouchers, I noticed that while we paid for "first class" upgrades for the trains, one leg was listed as "business economy" and the other was listed as "prima economy". I called to confirm that we indeed were in first class coaches. The agent indicated that these were indeed first-class seating in the coaches (cars). When we boarded our first train, we were seated in the third car with spacious seats and a small table that came in handy during the trip. However, I did notice that the first two cars had even nicer accommodations validating that we were in a "business" class rather than a first-class coach. I wasn't too distressed since even these accommodations were very comfortable. When we boarded the second train in coach 5 to the next city, our coach listed as "prima" economy was much less roomy and lacked the amenities of the first train. This led me to believe that not only were we not in the first-class coach as booked, we were not even in the business class that we were in for the first train. I am certain that Trip Masters failed to honor their obligation for the class of service booked. In general, I believe that Trip Masters uses pricing methods to obtain bookings and then use dishonorable methods to impose changes to "confirmed" bookings in order to obtain cheaper fares and cost savings to maximize profits with the full understanding that this will impose inconveniences to their customers.

Positive Experience with Tripmasters

I have used Tripmasters twice. We have just returned from an extended and highly customized Scotland Self Drive trip we booked using Tripmasters. From the ability to customize my vacation, to working through the frustrating Covid cancellations of 2020 time period to rebooking with my ecredits. I have had a wonderful experience with this company. I will continue to use them for my travel needs and highly recommend their use to my friends who travel. On our recent trip there was a hotel billing issue with the last few hotels. I alerted Tripmasters who immediately took care and fully resolved the problem. They have proven their reliablity to me and I will be a long term customer.

Per the Department of Transportation

Per the Department of Transportation, which applies to all flights arriving, departing, or layovers in the United States, if the airline cancels a flight you are entitled to a full refund. See pics for policy and proof of cancellation. Furthermore, if you choose to cancel your trip as a result, you are entitled to a refund of any unused portion of travel even for non refundable tickets. This is directly from the government website for the Department of Transportation. Air Canada has cancelled my flight and I have requested a full refund of my trip twice via phone after long wait times. They refused. Very disappointed in customer service I received for Booking number #798064. DO NOT BOOK WITH THIS COMPANY! Flight Delays & Cancellations US Department of Transportation.png IMG_0434.PNG

This company is withholding my refund

This company is withholding my airfare refund in the amount of $2040.79 which I confirmed with UNITED AIRLINES CORPORATE OFFICE has been refunded to me and this company has been given waiver codes for the refund. I have called multiple times. initially was told my refund was underway now I am being told that I am being given a voucher that if I don’t use that in a year then I will be issued a refund. this is incorrect information wrong and illegal. I originally purchased these tickets in September 2019 I am nowhere near planning to travel at any point soon. Not only that the company never relayed this information to me until I continue to call to see what happened to my refund.

Shame on you Tripmasters

Shame on you Tripmasters! My family and I booked our dream vacation to Italy and were supposed to leave last night. We never heard a word from you despite several phone calls and emails by us to find out what was going on with our trip. We never even received an official cancellation. Now we are being told that over $6,000 dollars of our hard earned money will not be refunded. This is totally unacceptable. The customer service has been terrible and we should be refunded because we paid for a service we didn't receive due to no fault of our own. You want to give us a credit but after the way we were treated by you why would we want to continue to deal with your company. I will be telling everyone who will listen about your poor business practices, horrible customer service and outright thievery unless this wrong is made right! Lisa Pungitore

Very belated review - never occurred to me!

I've not thought to leave a review for a travel company before but after doing a little Googling I realized it might not be a bad idea! I used TripMasters back in late 2017 to plan & book a multi-city Europe trip for spring 2018. I didn't know what to expect as I'd never planned such a trip before, and I found this website & service to be INCREDIBLY helpful and easy to use. My friend & I absolutely loved the hotels we were given and the whole process was just so straight-forward. Plenty of emails indicating itinerary; trains tickets between cities came in the mail in plenty of time; and all the info we needed was clearly communicated. I'm sad to see the reviews of folks having negative experiences, but I can certainly say our experience was anything but fabulous. Looking to use them again for my first Italian vacation!

Refuses to give refund

Refuses to give refund, holding my money hostage despite airlines refunding in cash. This is clearly their last effort to keep their agency afloat, this will also be their undoing as I will never use this company again. My flights have been completely cancelled, and my hotel is refundable. Don't give them a penny of your money. *Edit: If you booked your trip with a credit card, talk to your bank about a chargeback. It may be the only way to get any money out of this company.

I have been using Tripmasters since …

I have been using Tripmasters since 2015 and have traveled to over 30+ countries. I hope to those reading all the negative reviews in here that one can easily see and distinguished that most of the negative reviews were done during the time of COVID lockdowns. Borders were closed / hotels were not cooperating either. Now who in their right mind would travel during the time of pandemic. This is a travel agency that works with vendors meaning the airlines and hotels. Please plan your trip accordingly and don’t just rely on the hotels that the site gives you, do your own thorough research. One can modify both flights and hotels to your own liking. If you don’t like the hotel that they give you during booking - that’s on you. Planning a trip/ vacation is a task by itself. Read all the details of your trips. I even called and confirmed hotels in EU during bookings. And make sure you purchase travel insurance and don’t put all the blame on the travel agency if something happens and you decide last minute that you can’t travel.

The worst I have used them in the past. I cancelled within terms. Empty canned promised of refunds that was systematic processed to delays and excuses. Offered credits that that were worthless. I got full refunds from All the reputable carries and agency. Do your self a favor stay clear.

We booked pre covid and had to rebook…

We booked pre covid and had to rebook our entire trip afterward. They ended up charging us almost double with each step of the way. Even with insurance they did not assist getting our money back. Very poor communication at times. Once finally booked we arrived in Rome in September 2021 at our hotel… which was closed down since November 2020. No customer service or assistance to get us another hotel so we had to pay over $800 out of our pocket for another hotel. When we asked for a refund they told us they would check into it, eventually refunding us about half our money we paid out for the new hotel. They told us to also go through travel insurance which has been zero help as well. Still waiting….. After overcharging us and paying out over $4,000 more dollars this was not the way to go. Each step of the way was another few hundred dollars from the original purchase price for our package. With no refund available only future credit they pretty much hijack you into being forced to use them.

Excellent Travel Company!

I have now used Trip Masters for 3 different trips to Europe and have been very pleased. I do spend a lot of time putting the trips together, choosing all the airlines I prefer and times I prefer to fly. I chose the hotels after reading reviews and I pick activities that look like ones that fit our family. I always book airport pick ups and drop offs and all three of our trips have been amazing and never a glitch. I have turned several friends onto trip masters and have also assisted in their selections as well. Never a problem! I have even changed hotels after booking and also changed a flight to stay two days longer with no extra charge. I absolutely love this company as we save thousands of dollars with every trip. I feel bad there have been such bad reviews due to the pandemic. But I feel there has been chaos with all trips that had been booked and cancelled during this unfortunate time.

Waiting on $3400 2 months.

Very unhappy with tripMasters we have used them for several trips and were always very happy. We booked a trip to 2 Islands in Hawaii, we ended up postponing the trip because #1 the governor of Hawaii pleaded with tourists to not come. #2 my husband was very sick and unable to travel at the time. They said we'd get all except about $90 in vouchers back. We have waited 2 months, haven't gotten anything. I have called several times I'm always told its almost done. I think it time to put it in dispute with my credit card company. This is not something I like doing, but I want my $3400.00 back.

Tripmasters fell short

For most part Tripmasters has worked for the several trips we have booked with them. Their customer service was good when I had to call with the exception of a coupe important things. They book the cheapest air tickets available that that are very hard or expensive to change. We booked this far in advance and wanted to upgrade to a better class of seat closer to leaving. When I called airline they told me I had to upgrade through Tripmasters. When I contacted them the price to phrase was higher than just rebooking flight which I ended up doing with no credi for not using original tickets and loosing them altogether. Fine my fault but still out a couple thousand dollars. This was a 21 day trip that went good until we arrived in Zadar and went to check in to room. No one was there to help address was a bakery that didn't know what the hell we were talking about. When I called Tripmasters they gave me the owners number who I had to call to get keys to room above the bakery. The place was a huge disappointment dirty old and unsafe. When I called Tripmasters they told me to work it out with the owner since they booked it through Expedia and couldn't help at all. Owner wouldn't refund just said to bad. We ended up dragging our luggage around town til we found a room for $300.00 per night which was nice but felt that Tripmasters could have gone to bat for us since they were who we booked through. Lost another $400.00. All in all I feel Expedia would have been more helpful had I just booked direct with them. You reallly have no recourse booking through this travel agent. Yes price is ok, not flexible or helpful if you aren't satisfied after original booking. The room they booked us was nothing like what we received. Just book everything yourself so you can have some recourse when things go south. They really fell short on this vacation and if we didn't have the time or money to fix these issues on our own this vacation would have been a disaster. We are older adults who travel often and don't like surprises like this. We will never book through this company again. Save yourself the hassle and book it yourself

We had a trip planned preCorona and…

We had a trip planned preCorona and then the world shut down all flights anywhere. The problem is that Tripmasters promised us a full refund of airline tickets and hotels that were refundable and blew us off for 3 months telling us that we would be receiving a full refund. Nothing ever. Then they told us the best they would do is give us a voucher. Never received a voucher either. They kept all 4258.30 and we got none of our money back. They lied and stole money from us. We have fought with our credit card companies and Tripmasters refuses to refund us any money. Total scam and nothing we can do about it. Buyers beware. They are liars and thieves. We need to file a class action against this scandalous company and the millions of dollar they have stolen from their customers. If anyone does a class action email me at michaudbrats@yahoo

Do not book with this agency.

This is regarding booking number 808836 We booked travel to Italy from the United States, the company did absolutely nothing to even attempt to refund me or move the trip to because of a LEVEL FOUR travel advisory from United States government and CDC due to a massive Corona Virus epidemic in the country, (if I went flew to Italy, I most likely wouldn't be able to come back to my homeland) they did not even offer to refund the profit (booking fees) they received from my booking, or even advise me on rescheduling flights. I was not even given remorse. $2,200 down the drain. I am extremely upset, and would NEVER recommend booking with this company. Please do not consider traveling with them, as an agency they should have contingencies in place for a CRISIS like this. This just shows how the company will operate if something completely beyond your control happens, do not take your chances.

Took My Money No Questions Asked, No Help In Getting A Refund

I booked a trip to London/Paris for our family, on 1/7/2020/ Travel plans were set for 3/20/2020. Fast forward to March and we are not allowed to travel to France first, then shortly after that we can't travel to the UK. On 3/12/2020 I begin the request for a refund. Since them I have contacted them numerous times, only to be told that they are waiting for a response from vendors. I have contacted both hotels and the airlines, all have authorized refunds (one has already sent a refund to them) to date 4/27/2020 I have not received a refund from them and they have yet to confirm themselves with any of the providers. I am out $6k and would like the refund that has been authorized. I was told 6-8 weeks, which is where we are now and after contacting Trip Masters today, it doesn't seem like they have any clue on what they are doing.

I am trying to help you

Hello. I hope this email helps some of you. We scheduled a European tour mid May. Our flights were canceled. Trip Masters offered us vouchers for future use but no refund. This offer violates their own Terms and Conditions. Please google and look at condition number 15. You are absolutely entitled to a full refund. Don’t back down. Also they will tell you that they cannot refund your money because they “entered into a contract” with the air line etc. this is hogwash. They entered into a contract with you first and if they were stupid enough to enter into a contract with the air line to your detriment that is not your problem. Be firm. Do not be rude. Do not scream even if you want to. The fault lies with corporate headquarters not with the poor employees who are manning the phones. This has nothing to do with your insurance. I am still negotiating and hoping for the best.

Canceled Trip and offering credits.

They canceled my trip to Europe due to Covid, and offered credits instead of the $5k that I spent with them. They are causing my family stress and undue hardship in already difficult times.

Wonderful Anniversary trip to France

My husband and I booked a trip to France. We stayed in Nice, France for 3 nights and took a train to Paris, France and stayed there for 5 nights. TripMasters made it super easy to plan our trip. We saw some bad reviews on-line after we booked and I am so happy that we did not encounter any problems. Thank you TripMasters for the wonderful service. Will definitely use again!!

The 10 Best Travel Umbrellas, Tested & Reviewed

By Claire Volkman

The one thing that I absolutely never forget to pack: a travel umbrella. No matter where I’m going, except for the Wadi Rum or the Sahara Desert maybe, there’s bound to be some inclement weather. Rain, sleet, thunderstorms; no destination is without them. Having an umbrella on hand allows you to keep your travel plans intact, and even see the sights in some places without all the crowds.

However, the task of picking an umbrella is about as daunting as picking a suitcase . With about a million options to choose from and all of them claiming to be “the best travel umbrella,” it’s no wonder so many just pick the cheapest option and go. However, not all umbrellas are created equally—as anyone who has found themselves with one completely inverted during a torrential downpour will tell you. Below, we’ve rounded up the best of the best travel umbrellas, keeping features like durability, wind-resistance, and size in mind.

This article has been updated with new information since its original publish date.

Discover the best travel umbrellas:

  • Best overall: Weatherman compact travel umbrella
  • Most compact: Davek The Davek mini
  • Best for cities: Amy's Automatic umbrella
  • Most affordable: Repel windproof travel umbrella
  • Most durable: Blunt Metro umbrella
  • Best splurge: Pasotti Tropical umbrella
  • Most lightweight: Totes mini manual umbrella
  • Best patterns: Rifle Paper Company umbrella
  • Most wind-resistant: Davek Elite umbrella
  • Most sustainable: Totes recycled canopy umbrella

Best overall travel umbrella

Image may contain: Tool, Axe, Umbrella, and Canopy

Why we love it : Sturdy, wind-resistant, lightweight, and incredibly compact, the Weatherman travel umbrella is undeniably the best on the market. This umbrella has a serious fanbase, with hundreds of nearly perfect reviews on Amazon. It is surprisingly lightweight, and can easily fit in a carry-on or tote bag . It has an automatic open and close feature, a reinforced fiberglass base, and a water-resistant, Teflon-coated fabric. Plus, it shields winds up to 45 MPH and is tough enough to withstand even the heaviest of rainfall.

Worth noting : There aren’t many things to complain about this umbrella, however, it is a bit pricey coming in at $69. However, with a lifetime warranty, it’s well worth the splurge.

Dimensions:  Open diameter: 38"; Closed length: 12" Weight: 0.85 oz. Carrying sleeve included: Yes

Most compact

tripmaster travel reviews

Why we love it: When they say mini, they mean mini. The Davek Mini is so small and compact that it fits in the palm of your hand. Measuring less than 7 inches when closed, you can easily stash this umbrella in your carry-on, backpack , or even a jacket pocket. Plus, it weighs less than a pound, making it almost unnoticeable when not in use. Made from reinforced fiberglass, it also comes in 10 bright colors so you can coordinate your umbrella with the rest of your outfit.

Worth noting: Because of its size, the canopy doesn’t provide overwhelming coverage. Additionally, it’s not built for extreme storms and functions best in light showers.

Dimensions : Open diameter: 38"; Closed length: 7"

Weight : 0.8 oz.

Carrying sleeve included : Yes

Best for cities

Image may contain: Clothing, Apparel, Lifejacket, Vest, Shirt, Text, and Label

Why we love it : With a sleek and stylish small wooden or plastic handle, this lightweight umbrella features a wind-defying 8-rib canopy that’s also UPF 50+ certified, meaning it provides adequate sun protection, too. Small enough to walk down the busy streets of Chicago during a rainstorm without the awkward “bump and sideswipe,” it fits easily in a work tote, briefcase, or backpack. Plus, it features an automatic open and close, and comes in over a dozen bright and bold patterns and colorways, making it easy to stand out in a sea of black and blue canopies. It also comes with a five-year global warranty and is pretty affordable at only $40.

Worth noting: It’s small enough to fit in your hand, which means the canopy doesn’t offer premium protection in heavy rainstorms.

Dimensions : Open diameter: 38.1"; Closed length: 21.6"

Weight : 0.76 oz.

Most affordable

Image may contain: Umbrella, and Canopy

Why we love it : You can’t go wrong with this incredibly durable, lightweight, and affordable Repel travel umbrella. With over 36,000 4.5-star Amazon reviews, this is an overwhelming crowd favorite among travelers, worker bees, families, and everyone in between. I tested the durability during a heavy summer rainstorm in Chicago, and it stood up surprisingly well thanks to its 9-rib canopy, heavy-duty Teflon-coated fabric, and non-slip rubber grip. Plus, the automatic open and close feature makes it super easy to go in and out of buildings and restaurants without getting soaked or stuck. Another thing to note was how well it stood up to Chicago’s infamous winds—not bending, flipping, or even flapping during big gusts. The best part? It’s only $27 on Amazon and comes in 10 colors.

Worth noting: We didn’t find any problems with the umbrella, but some reviewers found that it didn’t stand up to heavier winds and isn't as lightweight as other comparable brands.

Dimensions : Open diameter: 42"; Closed length: 11.5"

Weight : 0.93 oz.

Carrying sleeve included : No

Most durable

Image may contain: Umbrella, and Canopy

Why we love it : This heavy-duty umbrella stands up to even the strongest rainstorms, and offers supreme coverage thanks to its patented wind-tip rounded edges, which work like mini umbrellas. It’s also built with a 360-degree spinning canopy which prevents it from breaking when dropped or knocked over. It’s extremely wind-resistant and has been tested to withstand the winds and rains of a category one hurricane. It’s also made from rip-resistant pongee fabric that is also super quick to dry, so you can easily go back indoors without needing a plastic cover.

Worth noting: This umbrella only features six ribs, which means it's smaller than Blunt’s other umbrellas.

Dimensions : Open diameter: 39"; Closed length: 15"

Weight : 0.85 oz.

Best splurge

Image may contain: Canopy, and Umbrella

Why we love it : If looking chic is just as important as staying dry, this is the umbrella for you. Handcrafted by Italian umbrella maker Pasotti, the canopy will stop people in their tracks—with a beautiful tropical pattern in sage, gold, and dark green. When I was walking in downtown Chicago, I had four people stop to ask me about this umbrella (and then a few ask to buy it from me). Although I originally gravitated to this umbrella for its looks, the functionality is why it’s my absolute go-to. The canopy extends 102 centimeters and has a 93 centimeter shaft, meaning I’m not going to get pelted by rain when it’s windy (which is everyday in Chicago).

Worth noting: At $275, this is by far the most expensive on the list.

Dimensions : Open diameter: 40"

Most lightweight

Why we love it : They weren’t kidding when they said this is one of the most lightweight umbrellas on the market, weighing only 8 ounces. Small enough to fit into most purses , carry-ons, totes, and computer bags, this umbrella doesn’t take up any more space than it needs too. One drawback with the size is that you need to activate the canopy manually (no quick release button). However, the handle is sturdy and the canopy provides ample coverage for most light-to-moderate rain storms. I love the fact that it comes in multiple colors and patterns, and the price makes it easy to stock up on a few (only $25 at Amazon).

Worth noting: Due to the size, it’s not super wind-resistant and wouldn’t be a great pick if you’re facing a heavy downpour or storm.

Dimensions : Open diameter: 43"; Closed length: 11.2"

Weight : 7.8 ounces

Best patterns

Image may contain: Canopy, Umbrella, Architecture, Building, House, Housing, Patio, and Patio Umbrella

Why we love it : If you’re someone who buys a bottle of wine based on the label, these umbrellas are for you. Known for its bold, whimsical, and delicate patterns and floral designs, Rifle Paper Company’s umbrellas are true works of art. Each umbrella also features a sleek wooden handle and an automatic open/close feature.

Worth noting: This is not the umbrella to buy if you’re looking for durability, extreme wind resistance, or more bells and whistles. This basic umbrella provides decent coverage in light rain, but isn’t meant for heavy winds or downpours.

Dimensions : Open diameter: 43"; Closed length: 11"

Most wind-resistant

Image may contain: Umbrella, Canopy, and Tent

Why we love it : There’s a reason 81 people have given this umbrella a nearly perfect rating on Amazon—it actually holds up. Sure, it may be a splurge at $159, but it is well worth the price tag when you see how it holds up. Surprisingly compact, the canopy extends 50 inches, giving you extreme protection against even heavy rains. Plus, it’s small enough to fit in a carry-on, backpack, or large tote bag. The fabric is 201-thread count, making it luxurious to touch but also extremely powerful against rain. The best feature is the wind-tension frame system, which can withstand heavy winds and prevent inversion. We tested this against a very blustery 55 MPH wind day in Chicago, and there was barely any flapping or movement at all from the tough canopy.

Worth noting: It’s expensive, but comes with a lifetime warranty and replacement guarantee.

Dimensions : Open diameter: 50"; Closed length: 35"

Weight : 1 lb.

Most sustainable

Image may contain: Umbrella, and Canopy

Why we love it : Shopping sustainably is more important now than ever, and that extends to umbrellas, too. Tote’s recycled umbrella is made from 100 percent Recycled PET plastics, equating to about 7.5 recycled water bottles per umbrella. The handle and strap are also made from all renewable resources, like bamboo and hemp, and the production process uses less water overall. In terms of coverage, the Pet umbrella features Tote’s patented NeverWet invisible coating allowing the rain to drip off the umbrella 4 percent faster, leaving you with a drier umbrella once indoors.

Worth noting: Its compact design makes it easy to travel with, however, doesn’t provide a ton of additional coverage beyond your person.

Dimensions : Open diameter: 43"; Closed length: 11.5"

Weight : 1.15 lbs.

Best Travel Duffel Bags 2024

Here are some of the top travel duffel bags you can buy today, including this Patagonia Black Hole style. REI

  • Dawn Magyar | NJ Advance Media for NJ.com

If you have a getaway planned for the summer, you’ll need a durable bag to stand up to all the adventures you have planned during your trip.

A travel duffel bag is the perfect companion for those summer vacations as it allows you to pack what you need with ample roominess and easy portability. These bags also offer compartments to keep your personal belongings organized with adjustable straps to sling over the shoulder or carry as a backpack.

But with so many different duffel bag styles to choose from, it can be a challenge to decide which one to buy.

To help, here are some of the most recommended travel duffel bags available, including styles from Patagonia and Beis .

  • Patagonia Black Hole Duffel: “This bag is the most versatile gear duffle we’ve found. It’s tough, water-resistant, and great for toting clothes and equipment in almost any travel or outdoor scenario,” Wirecutter says.
  • Beis Commuter Duffel: “The bag is bursting with compartments and pockets for organizing small, medium, and large items so you can pack efficiently before a weekend getaway. After we packed the bag full of clothing, shoes, and a toiletry bag, it was fairly heavy, but the shoulder and tote straps were shockingly comfortable and helped balance out the weight,” Travel + Leisure says.
  • REI Co-op Roadtripper: “The REI Roadtripper offers excellent storage and utility at over half the price of other bags, making it an exceptional value for a duffel bag on a budget,” GearLab says.
  • Away The Everywhere Bag: “It’s made of nylon with leather details on the handles and straps and it features two large outer pockets. Inside, it’s just as well-organized, with a 15-inch laptop sleeve and a host of zippered and slip pockets to hold everything from a paperback to your mobile phone,” Popular Mechanics says.
  • Osprey Transporter Duffel Bag: “After testing a series of duffels, the Osprey Transporter 40L stands out as the go-to hauler for a long weekend. It features a zippered end pocket about the exterior for smaller items like keys or headphones, and a large, easy-to-access main body with a lockable U-zipper carries everything from shirts and shorts to technical equipment,” Forbes says.

Looking to book a Costa Rica trip and the most recent post is 2013....any thoughts on the best places/ websites to book a self drive adventure such as what this company offers?

' class=

Additionally, we have gotten great deals on tours. I have 6 activities lined up for Morocco with a total price of around $250 per person. Is tripmasters perfect? Absolutely not. However, for the price, I will absolutely take it. The layovers aren't so bad for stretching, and honestly, I'll add a few extra hours for a $300-$500 discount. I just hope the Marrakech trip runs as smoothly as Dubai! Wish me luck!

tripmaster travel reviews

Hello this is the exact trip my fiancé and I would like to do for our honeymoon. How long was your stay in each city ? Did you upgrade hotels and book tours through trip master as well ? I would love to hear a more detailed breakdown of your trip if possible ! Thanks

Yes. We used Tripmasters (then EuropeanDestinations) twice now for our trip to Europe and never had a problem.

They have a limited selection of destinations in a given country so if you want to explore in depth or do a overnight in a different city this is not the way to go. Most of their trips include hotel airport transportation which sometimes they want to pick you up way too early but its nice to come through baggage claim and have a driver waiting with your name on a card no matter the time.

Trip Masters is garbage.....They constantly changed things around on my trip without notifying me which caused additional charges to be incurred. Seek another travel company unless you like headaches.

  • This $17 ‘Concrete’ Planter Is So Great I Bought 8 of Them

tripmaster travel reviews

Last summer, I was on a mission to fill my backyard with planters and fill those planters with herbs. I had a dream of basil, rosemary, thyme, and lavender scattered throughout the garden, like a Tuscan chef ’s garden, but in Brooklyn. It was my first time having my own backyard as an adult and I was excited, but also fearful of growing edible plants in my backyard’s lead-filled soil.

Then I got a reality check: Planters, especially big ones that look good, are really expensive. And my vision to have clusters of overflowing planters adding greenery throughout our mostly paved backyard seemed like it was going to be more expensive than my patio furniture . That’s when I started my hunt. A lot of the less expensive options were really ornate and dated, or clearly made of plastic (or worse: both). I loved a simple concrete look, but we already had a lot of other projects going on and I didn’t have time to DIY them. Also, concrete is really heavy. I had inherited a large bird of paradise in a concrete planter from a friend and knew it takes two adults to move.

After a lot of scrolling, I found this one from the Better Home & Gardens collection for Walmart. (Yes, the magazine apparently makes home goods, too.) It’s made out of resin, not concrete, which is both why it’s less expensive and also why it’s lightweight enough to move around easily. I have been very committed to using natural materials in my backyard — we chose cedar decking over composite and natural bluestone over an engineered material, for example — but the planters broke me. They are a soft, natural-looking shade of gray, and honestly, you can’t tell that they aren’t made out of concrete until you get close enough to pick them up. And then you’re just grateful that they aren’t concrete.

These planters are 14 inches in diameter, so they are a great size for medium-to-large plants, and they have a plug in the bottom, so they can drain when outside. When I brought some of the planters inside for the winter, I just put the plug back in so they wouldn’t leak all over the floors.

Most importantly: They cost under $14. I bought four of them, and when they arrived I immediately bought four more. Then, they sold out. The 18-inch planters, in both black and tan, also sold out. In fact, all of the large planters in the Better Home & Gardens collection sold out. It was only June. I couldn’t be the only one who was a little late getting my garden started.

I added all the large planters  from the collection to my wishlist, hoping for an alert that they were back in stock. I reached out to Walmart, who did not respond, and then the team at Better Home & Gardens , who did. They shared that, unfortunately, I wasn’t alone in my love for this specific planter. It had sold really well in the beginning of the season, and the manufacturer wasn’t able to restock in time for summer.

tripmaster travel reviews

Fortunately, the 14-inch and 18-inch planters are back this spring. They have increased the price (now $17), but they are still a great value. (If you buy eight like I did, it’s about the same price as buying one equal-size planter from Pottery Barn .) I’d suggest stocking up now, in bulk, before they sell out again — and I have to say, I told you so.

How to watch 'Conan O'Brien Must Go' in Ireland

Max ‘s Conan O’Brien Must Go is a travel show with a twist.

Conan O'Brien Must Go

Related stories, jean smart to receive the hollywood reporter's trailblazer award at the seattle international film festival, 'hacks' season 3 trailer finds jean smart and hannah einbinder right back where they started.

Conan O’Brien Must Go is a smartly dumb show — or a stupidly smart show — focused (loosely) on what is essential about travel. It’s a series about arriving in a new place open to meeting new people, learning new languages, tasting new foods and experiencing uncomfortable new circumstances… and then making fun of them, when all the while you’re mostly mocking yourself and the fears people have about stepping outside of their comfort zones.

Or maybe it’s just a show about Conan O’Brien making fun of travel shows. However expansive or limited your perspective, and however expansive or limited Conan O’Brien’s perspective, Conan O’Brien Must Go is a very silly and occasionally illuminating series that’s still finding its rhythms and its comic voice as the fourth episode concludes. That leaves the show’s biggest takeaway as “Wait, that’s it? I want more.”

Although O’Brien has done travel-centric material in the past — I’d argue that the international jaunts were the pinnacle of his TBS show — Conan O’Brien Must Go is more an extension of his podcast Conan O’Brien Needs a Fan .

Conan O’Brien Must Go finds the host heading abroad to meet with and provide assistance to listeners/viewers/fans from around the world. That gives the impression of something more structured than what actually occurs.

The visits — deemed “surprise visits” in some cases — really set a tone more than anything else, something along the lines of “playfully combative” in a vein that will be familiar to podcast listeners. O’Brien likes busting chops and admires people who are prepared to fight back. One of the things that O’Brien is best at is never seeming to be punching down — which isn’t easy on a literal level, given that O’Brien towers over his guests, but it isn’t easy on any level since O’Brien will always be a generally famous, Harvard-educated TV personality and his new friends tend not to be. It takes astonishing calibration to go to a foreign country, find somebody for whom English may not be a first language, and keep the joke from ever being as facile as, “Ha, ha, I’m making fun of you and you don’t get it.” Sure, that might be a layer of the humor at times, but Conan is careful to situate himself and his own discomfort as the real target of the joke.

When O’Brien wants to have somebody he can make fun of mercilessly, that’s where somebody like longtime collaborator Jordan Schlansky comes in. Schlansky plays a key part in the Argentina episode, taking on the much more traditional role as the travel host who did his research and knows bits of trivia about nearly everything, so Conan ribs him mercilessly for doing his homework. Even then, the joke tends to be that Schlansky is right and Conan just doesn’t care.

O’Brien is an appreciator of the genre, and Conan O’Brien Must Go is an appreciative tweaker of the genre, in some of the same ways the host used to treat the talk-show format back when he was a Young Turk. The Finland episode is dominated by Conan and company’s enthusiastic over-reliance on drone shots, going so far as to have O’Brien running around carrying the drone in Oslo, where flying such crafts is apparently illegal. There are multiple occasions — the street food scene in Bangkok and a butcher’s shop in Dublin — where O’Brien makes sure to sample “extreme” foods, while acknowledging that that’s what travel hosts do. I’ve seen more travel hosts than I could count navigating the floating markets of Thailand, but I’ve never seen a host do it with a squeaking rubber chicken and an Angry Birds hat, clutching a carved dildo.

And then sometimes Conan just wants to be REALLY goofy! He performs a song on a popular Thai variety show, attempts the tango and Muay Thai boxing, and goes on a quest for Bono in a public park in Dublin. He’s game for anything as long as he can look ridiculous. Not everything works, exactly, but you can always sense O’Brien and his writers restlessly scanning the horizon for the next fun thing to do along their journey.

Or maybe that’s just not something Conan O’Brien Must Go aspires to. In that same Hot Ones segment, O’Brien described his goal, again disingenuously, as making viewers dumber after each 40-minute episode than they were when they began. He’ll have to settle for “more entertained.” Bring on season two.
