Who are Virgin Atlantic's airline partners?

How to use virgin atlantic flying club points on partner airlines, virgin atlantic elite members get automatic skyteam status, earn virgin atlantic points with airline partners, virgin atlantic airline partners recapped.

Many American travelers are familiar with Virgin Atlantic because of its well-known founder, Richard Branson. But they may not know how strong the airline's points are when booking international travel.

When redeeming points through Virgin Atlantic partners, you can find tremendous value — and possibly lower prices — than if you booked directly using that airline's miles.

Learn who the Virgin Atlantic transfer partners are, how to use points to book flights and how your elite status can earn you benefits on other airlines.

Virgin Atlantic Flying Club partners with the SkyTeam alliance and has relationships directly with other airlines. Members can earn or redeem Virgin points for flights, hotel stays and more.

The airline joined the SkyTeam alliance in March 2023. As a SkyTeam member, you can earn and redeem points with any of the other 18 members of the alliance.

Flying Club Silver and Gold members also receive extra benefits when flying with SkyTeam partners, like priority check-in and boarding and an extra baggage allowance.

These airlines make up the SkyTeam alliance:

Aerolineas Argentinas.

AeroMexico.

Air Europa.

Air France.

China Airlines.

China Eastern.

Czech Airlines.

Delta Air Lines.

Garuda Indonesia.

ITA Airways.

Kenya AIrways.

Korean Air.

MEA (Middle East Airlines).

Vietnam Airlines.

Virgin Atlantic.

Xiamen Air.

The airline also has direct relationships with nine other airlines:

Air New Zealand.

All Nippon Airways (ANA).

Hawaiian Airlines.

Latam Airlines.

Scandinavian Airlines (SAS).

Singapore Airlines.

South African Airways.

Virgin Australia.

Flying Club Gold members get lounge access, priority check-in and extra baggage allowances when flying Air New Zealand, Singapore Airlines and Virgin Australia.

» Learn more: Best uses of Virgin Atlantic Flying Club points

The process is relatively simple to redeem points for flights on Virgin Atlantic Flying Club partners.

Log in to your Virgin Atlantic loyalty account . Go to VirginAtlantic.com to enter your username and password.

Search for flights . Select departure and arrival cities, round-trip or one-way flights, travel dates and number of passengers. Then select "points" or "points plus money" to use your points to pay for the trip.

Review flight options . In the search results, you'll receive flight options from Virgin Atlantic and any partner airlines that fly that route.

Choose your preferred flights . Select the flights with the price and itinerary you like best.

Pay for your flight . Finalize your flight by paying the taxes and fees with your preferred credit card. The points are then deducted from your Flying Club account.

Another option is the Virgin Atlantic reward seat checker , which searches for award space on direct flights from the United Kingdom. However, its search capabilities are limited to Virgin Atlantic and Delta, so you won't be able to find flights on other partner airlines.

This example shows award availability for August 2023 on Delta flights from Edinburgh to Boston:

» Learn more: What's the value of Virgin Atlantic Flying Club points?

As a member of the SkyTeam alliance, Virgin Atlantic elite members receive SkyTeam status benefits as well. Flying Club Silver members receive SkyTeam Elite status, while Gold members receive Elite Plus.

SkyTeam Elite status benefits include the following:

Additional checked bag.

Priority check-in.

Priority boarding.

Priority seating.

Priority airport standby.

Flying Club members with Elite Plus recognition also receive:

Airport lounge access.

Priority baggage handling.

When flying with one of Virgin Atlantic's partners, you can earn Flying Club points instead of miles from that airline.

This minimizes the number of orphan miles and points with random loyalty programs and accelerates your ability to redeem points for free flights.

Credit your flight to your Virgin Atlantic Flying Club account

You can credit your flight with one of the Virgin Atlantic Flying Club partners by adding your Flying Club number to your reservation online, over the phone or when checking in at the airport.

Most airlines allow you to modify your reservation online to choose a partner airline and provide your loyalty number.

Take advantage of bonus points in premium cabins

When booking premium cabins, you may be eligible to earn bonus points on your flights. For example, booking Air France Premiere class long-haul flights will earn you 400% Flying Club points and 200 tier points.

Be aware of varying earning rates from airline partners

Earning power varies by airline, so keep that in mind when choosing which partners to fly with. While you can earn up to 400% points and 200 tier points with Air France, AeroMexico caps out at 200% points and 75 tier points on long-haul flights.

These differences add up if you're flying with partners regularly.

Earn Virgin Atlantic points with hotels, car rentals and shopping

Members earn Flying Club points from flights, but Virgin Atlantic has other options. Start online shopping at Virgin Atlantic Retail Therapy to earn points at participating retailers.

Plus, link your accounts to earn Flying Club points with partner hotels, rental car agencies and other travel partners.

Get points from transfer partners

In addition to partner airlines, Virgin Atlantic is a transfer partner of American Express, Bilt, Capital One, Chase and Citi.

These partners transfer points at a 1:1 ratio with a minimum of 1,000 points at a time. Marriott Bonvoy points also transfer but at a less desirable 3:1 ratio. However, you get a 5,000 bonus for every 60,000 Bonvoy points you transfer. Terms apply.

This cruise line will match your hotel and airline loyalty status – for 3 days only

Ashley Kosciolek

Are you a sucker for a status match? If free coffee, a cocktail reception and free laundry service sound like perks you'd enjoy on your next vacation, listen up. For three days only, Virgin Voyages will extend its existing status match offer to include airline and hotel loyalty status matches.

Members of Virgin Voyages' Sailing Club loyalty program have been able to match with other cruise lines' loyalty programs for a while. However, if you have airline or hotel status, now could be the time to book that voyage you've been considering.

Here's all you need to know to take advantage of this offer.

For more cruise news, guides and tips, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter .

What's the deal?

Book one of several select cruises with Virgin Voyages from Wednesday to Friday, submit proof of your loyalty status on Virgin Voyages' website by Friday, and you'll be automatically moved to Blue Extras, the second tier of Virgin Voyages' three-tier Sailing Club program. You'll be awarded the corresponding perks, starting on your first cruise following the match. (Rates start at $149 per person, per night for four-night sailings.)

Perks include one free bag of laundry to be sent out and returned to your cabin, one free specialty coffee per day and a cocktail reception.

Which brands will Virgin Voyages match?

virgin airlines travel partners

This promotion will take loyalty status match requests into account for the following major airline and hotel brands:

  • United Airlines MileagePlus
  • American Airlines AAdvantage
  • Delta Air Lines SkyMiles
  • Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards
  • Frontier Airlines Miles
  • JetBlue TrueBlue
  • Marriott Bonvoy
  • Hilton Honors
  • World of Hyatt
  • Choice Privileges
  • IHG One Rewards
  • Wyndham Rewards
  • Radisson Rewards
  • Best Western Rewards

Virgin Voyages will also match your status if you are a loyal repeat traveler with another cruise line, but that offer is ongoing. The cruise line will continue to consider cruise line status matches after this deal ends.

What's the catch?

The obvious caveat is that you must book a cruise for your hotel or airline match to be considered.

You also can't be at the lowest tier within your airline's or hotel's loyalty program. Entry-level tiers don't qualify for the match. It's not enough to just be enrolled in a loyalty program. You must have earned some status within it first.

Additionally, this isn't a traditional type of match. Regardless of the level you've reached with your airline or hotel, you will only be awarded middle-tier status — Blue Extras — with Virgin Voyages. This promotion won't earn you the perks of Deep Blue Extras — the highest tier — no matter how elite you are elsewhere.

Which other cruise lines offer status matches?

Status matches are not common in the world of cruising. The only line that offers matches to cruise lines, hotels and airlines is MSC Cruises. MSC's matching program awards passengers status based on the loyalty level they submit for consideration. The drawbacks are that major U.S. airlines aren't yet part of the program, and if you don't cruise within three years of obtaining your status match, you'll lose it.

The only other megaship cruise lines that allow status matches are Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruises — but only with one another since they're sister brands. If you have status with one, you can submit a request to have it matched with the other.

Bottom line

Virgin Voyages prides itself on being a bit of an outlier in the cruise industry. The line has refreshingly managed to turn cruising on its head by eliminating buffets, hiring a resident drag queen and installing tattoo parlors on its ships.

Its current Sailing Club loyalty program hotel and airline status match is a great way to earn status and perks with a cruise line that offers a different way to cruise.

Virgin australia, qantas offer free flights for bonza customers stranded by mass flight cancellations.

Warren Barnsley

Budget airline Bonza cancels flights as future up in the air

Virgin Australia and Qantas have jumped in to assist customers stranded by beleaguered rival Bonza’s suspension of flights, as the Queensland -based budget airline faces collapse.

Hundreds of travellers are likely to have been impacted by Bonza’s decision to cancel services from airports across the country on Tuesday morning .

Virgin was the first airline to move on impacted customers, offering free flights to those left in limbo.

“We are aware of the temporary suspension of Bonza flights,” read a statement by the company.

“We will immediately support any passengers stranded mid-journey by offering complimentary seats on Virgin Australia-operated flights to the airport nearest to their final planned Bonza destination.

“For those at an airport please see your nearest customer service representative or call our Guest Contact Centre on 13 67 89.”

Qantas and subsidiary Jetstar followed suit, also confirming free flights will be offered where possible.

“We understand today’s news about Bonza will have a significant impact on many people’s travel plans,” Qantas said.

“For Bonza customers who are due to travel today or who are stuck away from home, Jetstar and Qantas will assist by providing flights at no cost where there are seats available.”

Flights suspended on Tuesday include those to or from Melbourne, the Sunshine Coast, the Gold Coast, Launceston, Alice Springs and others.

“Bonza has temporarily suspended services due to be operated today, as discussions are currently underway regarding the ongoing viability of the business,” chief executive Tim Jordan said in a statement.

“We apologise to our customers who are impacted by this and we’re working as quickly as possible to determine a way forward that ensures there is ongoing competition in the Australian domestic aviation market.”

Jordan did not address a report claiming Bonza’s fleet of planes is being seized by creditors.
