Attract enemy attention.

Due to their numbers, they can distract multiple enemies at once and give you time to heal, prepare an attack, or cast spells during battle.

Effective Against a Single Target

The Nobles have a very slow attack animation but can easily overwhelm a single enemy with their numbers.

Heal them Often

The Spirits of the Nobles have low individual HP, make sure to heal them when necessary to prolong their time on the field.

Wondering how to use Elden Ring Spirit Ashes to help you out in the Lands Between? One of the biggest changes to the Souls' formula arriving with Elden Ring is the ability to summon mobs of creatures and individual NPCs to help you once you get the Spirit Calling Bell near the start of the game.

This extremely powerful ability takes a lot of the pressure away from difficult areas and bosses, as well as giving offline players an easier time facing bosses that don't have NPC summons. Don't have a summon for a boss? Just summon an NPC with the bell.

To summon allies, you'll need Spirit Ashes, and this is a fun element of this new mechanic. These ashes are located throughout the world, in chests, and as rewards for defeating certain bosses. This kind of turns Elden Ring into a summon collection game, as you expand your ever-growing catalogue of summonable creatures. Still, they can be quite tricky to find, so here are the Elden Ring Summons we've found so far.

How to use Spirit Ashes in Elden Ring

Once you get the Spirit Calling Bell, all you need to do is equip your ashes as a consumable to use them. These summons are only be temporary, and they will cost FP. They can also only be called in certain locations such as boss fights, dungeons, and marked areas filled with enemies.

If you plan to summon regularly, I especially recommend getting the Cerulean Hidden Tear for your Flask of Wondrous Physick , since it eliminates all FP costs for a brief period, effectively making your summon free and not dependent on your FP limit.

wandering noble ashes how to use

Elden Ring Spirit Ashes Summons: How to use and upgrade your NPC allies

Elden Ring  is the most accessible Souls-style release by FromSoftware ever - though despite this fact, it's honestly no less unforgiving in difficulty - it just has more options to help everybody get through battles. One of the major features that can seriously assist is  Spirit Summoning , the ability to call upon AI-controlled Spirit Ashes  characters to assist you in fights.

Spirit Summoning shouldn't be confused with traditional Souls Summoning, where you call upon real life players from other worlds to come to your version of the Lands Between to help you as a co-op partner. Elden Ring also has some AI based versions of these summons, where story Tarnished can come assist you - but these are always marked by Golden co-op summoning signs which appear on the floor like messages. Spirit Summoning, meanwhile, takes the form of Spirit Ashes items you equip and then use to call ghostly spirits to your aid.

While you can find Ashes out in the world right from the start of the game, the method of  how to use ashes  is one that actually has to be unlocked - and as we on RPG Site learned during the review process, it can actually be easily missed. One of our two reviewers picked up this ability in the first few hours of the game, while the other didn't get it until some thirty hours in. So here, we'll explain how to unlock Spirit Summoning in Elden Ring ,  how to use ashes , and a little more besides:

  • How to get the Spirit Calling Bel l
  • How to use Ashes to Summon
  • How to Unlock Ashes Upgrades
  • Spirit Ashes List

How to get the Spirit Calling Bell to Unlock Summons

Witch Renna, who appears to unlock Spirit Summoning for you under certain circumstances.

Basically, getting your hands on the Spirit Calling Bell requires you to travel to a specific place once you've advanced some of Elden Ring's story a little ways - and if for some reason you don't return to that place, it's easy to not get the item in question.

Specifically, to unlock the Spirit Calling Bell required to summon, you'll need to return to the Church of Elleh Site of Grace  once you've advanced the story a little way.

The story advancement required is that you must have accepted Melina's accord to make her your Maiden, at which point she gives you the ability to summon Torrent, your horse. That happens the first time you reach the Gatefront Site of Grace, which is at the base of Stormhill, just north of 'The First Step', the first Site of Grace you find after leaving the tutorial area and entering the open world for the first time.

The next time you return to the Church of Elleh Site of Grace, a Witch should be present - she'll call out to you. It's tough to miss as the whole area gets bathed in a blue mist; if she's not there, try travelling away and back again, or returning at night time.

Talk to Renna; she will ask if you have the ability to summon Torrent. Tell her "I can call the spectral steed" , and she will give you the  Spirit Calling Bell , which is a key item used to summon spirits, as well as  Lone Wolf Ashes , which will be your first spirit unless you chose the Imp Ashes as your Keepsake from Elden Ring's starting gifts . Unlocking the spirits now can be a key progression point, and help you to beat Margit the Fell Omen , the first progression-blocking boss.

As for Witch Renna? She says you will not see her again - but depending on which side quests you pursue and which ending you're going for, you might... remember to keep note of what NPCs ask of you going forwards.

How to Use Ashes to Summon Spirits in Elden Ring

With the Spirit Calling Bell in hand, you can now summon spirits to assist you, which means you can use the Ashes items. There are some rules, however:

  • Consuming Spirits costs FP , which means it is a magical attack. You'll need sufficient FP to summon, which is governed by your Mind Stat and certain accessories. That means your choice of starting class will determine a little around which spirits, if any, you can summon.
  • You can only Summon Spirits from Ashes if you're near a Rebirth Monument ; these are little stone sculptures that are placed around the world. Basically, you'll always find Rebirth Monuments near difficult combat segments and in the rooms of practically every boss in the game - so you'll always be able to summon for battles like that, but not necessarily everywhere in the open world.
  • You can only summon one spirit at a time , and only one for each Rebirth Monument nearby. Which basically means there's one per fight, and once it's defeated, you can't summon another. Spirit Ash allies also can't be summoned at the same time as co-op or competitive multiplayer players.

To actually summon, all you need to do is navigate to your menu, select the summon you want, and use it like any other item.

Like most items you might want mid-battle, it'll make a lot of sense to bind your favorite Spirit Ash summon to your Quick Item toolbar using the equipment menu, which means you can then activate them the same way you might heal or use other items like crafted grenades.

How to upgrade Spirit Ashes to make Summons more Powerful

Meeting Roderika, the NPC who will become your calling point for Spirit Ashes upgrades.

Another optional piece of the Spirit calling mechanic in Elden Ring is the ability to upgrade them. This works very similarly to upgrading weapons, meaning you'll need Runes as a currency to pay for the upgrades, plus  Grave Gloveworts , a specific item, to actually perform the upgrade.

Unlike weapon upgrades, you can't do it yourself and won't find the NPC who can do it at Roundtable Hold when you first visit. Instead, you need to find and rescue them from The Lands Between. Specifically:

  • You'll need to  find Roderika at Stormhill Shack , an NPC hiding out in a dilapidated building as you head up Stormhill towards Stormveil Castle.
  • Talk to Roderika and exhaust her dialogue options. She'll give you a summon, the Spirit Jellyfish. She is despairing, but you can help.
  • Look out for a side room in the Stormveil Castle legacy dungeon, just off a large banquet hall type room with a huge grafted enemy. This room has a pile of bodies in it. Atop the pile is a key item. Grab it.
  • Return to Roderika and give her this item. She will then move on to Roundtable Hold.
  • At Roundtable Hold, go back and forth speaking to Roderika and Master Hewg, the blacksmith, to advance their relationship. You may need to fast travel away and back a few times to advance the plot here.
  • Eventually, Master Hewg will train Roderika, which in turn unlocks her to upgrade your spirits. She works opposite his smithing table, and will remain to help you for the rest of the game.

Upgrading spirits makes them stronger across the board - meaning more health, more damage dealt, and generally just better performance. It's well worth doing.

In terms of where to get the resource, like Smithing Stones,  Grave Gloveworts and Ghost Gloveworts  are both found throughout the game world of Elden Ring. As the names suggest, these are commonly found where you'll find the dead - in places like Catacombs and Graveyards - though they can spawn anywhere.

Keep an eye out for these ghostly flowers that have a white glow, anyway - you'll want to upgrade your favorite spirits often, if you have a spirit-friendly character build.

Keeping summons upgraded has great benefits; like weapons and weapon upgrades, spirits and their levels carry over into New Game Plus , so can be a portable piece of your character build across multiple play-throughs.

Special & Legendary Ashes - the Best Summon Spirits in the game

These ashes feature 'named' characters, and though they're generally not Elden Ring story characters, these spirit summons are more powerful and effective; the best summons in the game. They require the rarer Ghost Glovewort items to upgrade, but they're worth the effort.

Special Ashes

  • Banished Knight Oleg:  Obtained in the Stranded Graveyard, the area locked behind a Stonesword Key imp at the end of the tutorial area
  • Battlemage Hughes:  Defeat the Battlemage Hughes boss inside a Caelid Evergaol.
  • Blackflame Monk Amon:  A drop from a boss encountered in the Hidden Path to the Haligtree dungeon accessed by using the Haligtree Secret Medallion at the Lift of Rold . Instead of exiting the dungeon to the Snowfield, jump down to invisible platforms to explore the dungeon and find the boss.
  • Bloodhound Knight Floh:  Your reward for completing the Gelmir Hero's Grave dungeon.
  • Depraved Perfumer Carmaan:  Looted from the corpse of an unfortunate soul in Volcano Manor; you can get into the room it's in by agreeing to join the Manor, using the key to enter rooms. One of the rooms has an illusion wall.
  • Latenna the Albinauric:  Obtained as part of a side quest, where Gideon will send you to find this NPC in search of a medallion. Agree to "take her with you"
  • Omenkiller Rollo:  Reward for defeating the Fell Twins Boss Fight on the outskirts of Leyndell; follow the eastern rampart rather than taking the grand lift
  • Perfumer Tricia:  Dropped by defeating Perfumer Tricia and a Misbegotten Warrior, who come as a duo boss, in Mt. Gelmir's Unsightly Catacombs dungeon.
  • Stormhawk Deenh:  Obtained in the Chapel of Anticipation, which is the area where you die at the very beginning of the game. You can return there via the Three Belfries tepeorters in Liurnia.
  • Banished Knight Engvall:

Legendary Ashes

These Ashes are 'legendary', which basically refers to the fact that they're the summonable spirits of major characters who played a significant role in making The Lands Between the place it is. There's six of them total, and there's an achievement for getting them all. We've got a separate page on the Legendary Ashen Remains locations - but here's all six in short:

  • Ancient Dragon Knight Kristoff:  Found in the Sainted Hero's Grave dungeon in the Altus Plateau.
  • Black Knight Tiche:  Rewarded for beating the Ringleader's Evergaol battle in Moonlight Plateau, which is above south-western Liurnia of the Lakes.

  • Lhutel the Headless:  Dropped by the Cemetery Shade boss of the Tombsword Catacombs in the southern area of Limgrave.

Elden Ring Spirit Ashes

Elden Ring: How to Use Spirit Ashes

Image of Noah Nelson

Summoning through Spirit Ashes is something new from Elden Ring . Summoning not only looks cool, but it is also effective with crowd control and can help you play a ranged playstyle. With over 30 different summons in the game , playing as a ranged summoner isn’t a bad idea. In order to achieve this playstyle, you’ll need to collect a lot of Spirit Ashes. Here is everything you need to know about Spirit Ashes in Elden Ring.

Where are Spirit Ashes in Elden Ring

Spirit Ashes are items that you need to use to summon specific creature and warrior spirits to fight for you. But before you can summon fantastical fighting buddies, you need to get the Spirit Calling Bell.  This special item is a prerequisite to summoning in Elden Ring. To get the Spirit Calling Bell, talk to the Witch Renna at the Church of Elleh.

Once you have claimed the Spirit Calling Bell, you now need to find yourself some Spirit Ashes. Each summon has its own Spirit Ash and, as mentioned earlier, there are over 30 Spirit Ashes to collect. Even the Elden Ring Wiki doesn’t have every single Spirit Ashes location. Here are some Spirit Ashes locations that we know about:

  • Lone Wolf Spirit Ashes are given from Renna
  • Wandering Nobel Ashes are found in the Stormfoot Catacomb
  • Noble Sorcerer Ashes are acquired from defeating the Erdtree Burial Watchdog

How to Use Spirit Ashes in Elden Ring

There are some specific requirements when it comes to using Spirit Ashes. Using Spirit Ashes requires FP, which is the Mana of Elden Ring, so make sure you have enough to cast the summon. Once you get Spirit Ashes, you need to assign them to your consumable slot to use them. To summon, just press the Use Item key/button. To dismiss the spirits, press the button/key again. All of this can be done on Torrent , by the way.

When it comes to summoning in battle, there are some more rules. You cannot use Spirit Ashes to summon if you are playing online. Also, you can only summon in specific areas. You’ll know when you can when a gravestone icon appears on your screen. One more thing to note is that you can only summon once in a given area. If your summons die or get dismissed, you will need to rest at a Site of Grace to restore the ability to summon in that area.

There are loads of other brand new items to use in Elden Ring like Ashes of War and Great Runes . You will be able to upgrade your Spirit Ashes further into the game. To do that, you will need to check out our Elden Ring guides for more.

Elden Ring  is out now for the PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series X/S, and PC.

Spirit Ashes are a mechanic in Elden Ring that allows you to summon various creatures to aid you in battle. This wiki page will give you a brief overview of what these are, how they work, and the conditions you must meet to use them.

Eldin Spirit3.jpg

What are Spirit Ashes?

Similar to other From Software games such as Dark Souls and Bloodborne, Elden Ring allows you to summon other players and NPC's for cooperation in both boss battles and overworld exploration. However, the new Spirit Ashes mechanic also allows you to call upon the spirits of the dead who, for whatever reason, were unable to make their way back into the roots of the Erdtree. These allies range from packs of once-hostile enemies to legendary warriors to the spirit form of notable NPC's. However, to be able to deploy these helpful allies from the ether, you need to collect both their ashes (found scattered throughout the world or via specific questlines) as well as the tool with which to use them (the Spirit Calling Bell).

How to Get the Spirit Calling Bell

After receiving Torrent from Melina in West Limgrave (more information on that here ), return to the Site of Grace at the Chuch of Elleh. Upon resting there, you will see a new NPC, who will identify herself as Renna the Witch, perched on a crumbling wall to the east of the Site of Grace.

Ranni First Encounter.png

Speak to Renna and exhaust her dialogue to receive the Spirit Calling Bell and the Lone Wolf Ashes. After you have secured these items, Renna will disappear. From here, you will now be able to summon your first Spirits.

How to use Spirit Ashes in Combat

Spirit Ashes can only be summoned in certain locations, and will disappear under two conditions

  • If you move out of the Spirit Calling range (more information on how to identify that below).
  • If you vanquish the boss of the area.

Eldin Spirit4.jpg

If you are fighting a field boss and move out of Spirit Summons range, the icon in the corner will begin to flash. The further you move out of these boundaries, the quicker it will flash; when it disappears, your Spirit will also have dissipated. It's worth keeping an eye on this, as you will need to rest at a Site of Grace to re-summon if you move too out of range.

Eldin Spirit2.jpg

Knowing which Spirit you want to summon for an upcoming battle can depend heavily on what you need most for the fight. Sometimes they serve best as distractions for a boss, while other times you'll want a powerful Spirit to support you with ranged fire or to simply tank enemy hits. We recommend trying out several different types to figure out which fit your playstyle best. If you're still not sure, we recommend checking out our page outlining the best spirit ashes .

Where to find Spirit Calling Bell in Elden Ring and how to Summon Spirits from Ashes

This guide explains how to unlock the ability to Summon Spirits using Ashes in Elden Ring and how and when you can do it!

Elden Ring inherits the hardcore style of FromStoftware’s Souls games. It is a tough game. But also a lot more welcoming to newer players thanks to a new feature called Summoning Spirits.

What are Ashes in Elden Ring

Ashes are items you can find as drop loot, in chests, or as gifts from certain NPCs in Elden Ring. You can use them to call spirits to help you in combat. These spirits serve the role of a temporary companion.

It’s important to note that Ashes are different from Ash of War items. You can learn more about these in our guide on how to change Skills with Ashes of War in Elden Ring .

You can only summon Ashes in specific places in Elden Ring. They are only available in tough areas, predetermined by FromStoftware. You cannot have them anywhere and all the time.

Ashes also consume FP (Focus Points) to call them. Once spawned, they will fight on your side until they are defeated.

Typically summoned spirits from ashes would only be available once per instance. There is (at least) one known exception, however. There’s a certain item that allows you to summon a type of spirit that will get resurrected when they are defeated.

When you find your first ashes of spirits, you will get this message:

How to get the Spirit Calling Bell in Elden Ring

To be able to summon spirits from ashes in Elden Ring, you need a special item called “Calling Bell”. There is only one known way to get it – from Renna the witch.

You will find Renna most likely at the Church of Elleh Grace checkpoint. She is sitting on the eastern ruined wall of the church. This is the same place where you meet the first vendor in Elden Ring – Kale.

The Church of Elleh is most likely the second Grace checkpoint you will discover once you reach the first area Limgrave after the tutorial.

It is directly to the north from where you start the game. Past the Tree Sentinel, which you should most likely skip when you first encounter it.

You may have already been here before if you followed my guide on how to get your mount Torrent .

If you don’t yet know how to reveal and use the map in Elden Ring , I have a great guide to help you take full advantage of it!

Renna is a spirit. She is dressed in a furry cloak and wears a wizard’s pointy hat. You can’t miss her if she has spawned. And she’s always in the same place – on the ruined east stone wall.

It is very likely that you will not see Renna the first time you visit this place. If that is the case, explore a bit more of the Lands Between and return later to check again.

I found her after I went on to explore the Stormfoot Catacombs, where you will find some Ashes by the way – the Wandering Noble Ashes. The item is loot from a corpse at the end of one of the tunnels, past the corridors with the fire pylons.

This item allows you to summon five spirits of noblemen to fight for you. They provide an excellent distraction in crowded places, but can’t take much beating.

After you talk to Renna, she will give you the item you need to be able to summon spirits. It’s called “Spirit Calling Bell”. All you have to do is talk to this NPC. The item is granted to you for free.

In the conversation, Renna asks if you can summon your Torrent yet. I had my mount, so I answered yes. I don’t know what would happen if you answer negatively. At least this is a sign that you can meet Renna before you get to the third lost grace location to get your mount.

Renna will give you the Lone Wolf Ashes for free. This is an item you can use to summon three wolves. They are very ferocious and fast. They don’t have a large health pool (unless upgraded, but that’s a topic for another guide).

How to summon spirits in Elden Ring

After you have obtained the Spirit Summoning Bell, you need to find an area where summoning spirits is allowed. These are usually boss areas or places with tough and challenging crowds of enemies. There are a few special encounters where you will not be allowed to summon spirits at all.

Look for this icon on the left-hand side of your screen:

To summon spirits, you need to place the Ashes item in your Items slot of Pouch slot.

To place an item in the Quick Items slots, open the in-game menu screen and navigate to the Equipment tab. Go down to the Quick Items section and click on an empty slot. Next, pick up the spirits you’d like to be able to call when possible.

To place an item in the Pouch slots, open the in-game menu screen and navigate to the right-hand side where your pouch slots are. Click on an empty one and from the inventory screen that will open, choose an ashes item to place there.

If you need help with navigation around the menus, check out my Guide to PC and Console Controls for Elden Ring . It’s a bit of a hustle to learn how to play with a PlayStation controller and especially with a keyboard and mouse as the game only ever shows you hints for Xbox controls.

Why and when to use Spirits in Elden Ring

Elden Ring is a tough game. FromSoftware made it deliberately a bit more forgiving than the previous games from the Souls series, but there are some fights where you may struggle a lot.

There are different types of ashes that summon different types of spirits to help you in combat. Some are great for distractions, others can be perfect tanks for a tough boss like Margit the Fell Omen – the first major boss in Elden Ring . Ashes of Spirits are a fantastic new addition to Elden Ring and are mostly designed to welcome new players to this genre. Any Souls veteran can just ignore this feature and never summon spirits, for a true challenge everywhere, all the time.

Summoning Spirits is a feature many new to these types od games players will appreciate. Elden Ring gives you a lot more freedom to choose how, when and even if you want to approach a certain boss. If you struggle to beat an encounter, look around. Maybe you haven’t found the perfect Spirits to summon just yet and they would be ideal for the fight you have troubles with.

Check out some of the other helpful Elden Ring Guides we have. Here at VULKK.com we are building a great collection of helpful content to aid those who need a bit of advice or hint on where to go, what to do next and how to beat a tough boss.

How to Upgrade your Summoned Spirit Ashes

It is possible to upgrade the Spirits you summon from Ashes in Elden Ring. To do so, you need to complete a quest chain that includes two NPCs.

First, go to Stormhill Shack grace point. It’s north from the starting point in Limgrave.

Nearby the grace point you will find Rederika, sitting inside the shack. Talk to her until she gives you the Spirit Jellyfish Ashes. Then, head to the Roundtable Hold.

If you have not been invited to that place yet, it is unlocked after you beat Margit and talk to Melina at a grace point. You can also get invited to go there if you just explore further north going around Stormveil Castle. Follow this path:

When you get there, rest at the grace point and Melina should invite you to the Roundtable Hold. Roderika will be in the middle of that area now. Willing to talk to you. See what she would like to tell you.

Find and talk to the blacksmith. Ask him about Roderika.

After you do the dance of talking to both of them until they have nothing new to say, reload the game by “traveling” to the Roundtable Hold grace point. “Traveling” – because you are already here.

Now, Roderika should be settled in the same room near the blacksmith and she will have opened her shop. She can not upgrade your Spirit Ashes! The process is called “Spirit Tuning”.

To increase the tier of your spirit ashes, you have to spend runes and Grave Gloveworts. To strengthen named spirits, you need Ghost Glovewords.

Where to get the Wandering Noble Ashes in Elden Ring

Image of Junior Miyai

Ash items are summons, spells that allow you to summon helpful entities in combat. One of the starting items you can choose, for example, is the Fanged Imp Ashes, which summons two weak imps to poke and prod your enemies. One of these powerful summon items is the Wandering Noble Ashes, and here is where to get them in Elden Ring.

From the Church of Elleh, head north-west. You will discover a ramp heading down towards a door, which leads to an area known as the Stormfoot Catacombs. This area is a beginner-friendly dungeon, filled with Gargoyles that can throw daggers and leap down on you from the high ceilings. This area is fairly short but dangerous – and the Wandering Noble Ashes are hidden within.

The dungeon is straightforward — proceed through it until you reach the spewing fire tunnels. You will have to navigate past both of them to a safe zone, but make sure you time it properly. Without fire resistance or high health, you will die very quickly. You can stop and breathe immediately after reaching the second fire tunnel at the location in the above image — if you step forward too far, you will be hit by the second fire breath. Instead of sprinting to the fire source at the far end of the tunnel, head right and up the ladder.

You will now be on the third floor of the dungeon. Head straight, being mindful of hidden Gargoyles perched on walls. In the room ahead, you should see a tomb with a corpse slumped against it. This is where you can find the Wandering Noble Ashes, which summons five Noble Spirits to aid you in combat. From here, you can drop down one level to find the lever that opens the boss gate, and continue on your adventure.

How to Use Spirit Ashes in Elden Ring

Elden Ring fans can use this guide to learn how to use Spirit Ashes.

The most significant addition to Elden Ring are Spirit Ashes , which aid players during battles; however, there is a lot of confusion about how they work and how they can be acquired. Fortunately, this guide will cover everything there is to know about Spirit Ashes in Elden Ring .

Spirit Ashes Overview

Spirit Ashes allow players to summon companions via the Spirit Calling Bell.

RELATED: Elden Ring Player Defeats Godfrey Using 2 Daggers Without Getting Hit Once

Players can acquire the Spirit Calling Bell by following these steps:

  • Visit the Church of Ellah.
  • Rest at the Site of Grace .
  • Speak with Melina to acquire a ring that can be used to summon the horse, Torrent.
  • Head back to the Church of Ellah and look for the merchant.
  • Turn around and speak to the witch, Renna.
  • Renna will give the player the Spirit Calling Bell.

The Spirit Calling Bell can also be purchased from the Twin Maiden Husks at Roundtable Hold.

Spirit Ashes can only be summoned in specific locations, and they will disappear when the player moves out of the Spirit Calling range or if a boss has been defeated.

A white gravestone icon will appear at the bottom left side of the screen, indicating Spirit Summons are available.

To use Spirit Ashes, follow these simple steps:

  • Select the Spirit Ashes from the inventory .
  • The character will automatically use the Spirit Calling Bell.
  • The spirit will appear to aid the character in battle.

Multiple Spirit Ashes cannot be used at a time and are unavailable during Multiplayer.

How to Upgrade Spirit Ashes in Elden Ring

To upgrade Spirit Ashes, follow these steps:

  • Visit Roundtable Hold and speak with Roderika .
  • Since the player will not be able to upgrade Spirit Ashes immediately, they will need to exhaust all available dialogue options with Roderika.
  • Then visit the Blacksmith to find out more about Roderika. Convince him to mentor Roderika and then leave Roundtable Hold.
  • Upon returning to Roundtable Hold, Roderika can be found near the blacksmith.
  • Speak with Roderika and upgrade Spirit Ashes.

Grave Gloveworts are needed to upgrade normal Spirit Ashes, while Ghost Gloveworts are needed for renowned Spirit Ashes. Grave Gloveworts and Ghost Gloveworts can be found in catacombs.

When to Use Spirit Ashes in Elden Ring

Spirit Ashes can be used for the following purposes:

  • To serve as distractions for bosses.
  • To serve as a tank against bosses.
  • To provide ranged support against bosses.

Elden Ring is available on PC, Xbox Series S/X, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4.

How to get wandering nobles in elden ring.

Noble spirits!

Wandering Nobles Ashes is one of the NPC summoning items in Elden Ring that spawns five AI companions. Here is how to get this item.

Summoning companions during boss fights is extremely helpful to get the boss distracted and deal some heavy damage. However, it's important to spawn the right companion depending on the boss you're fighting with.

  • CHECK THIS OUT : Tetsuya Nomura Teases Kingdom Hearts 20th Anniversary in New Artwork

The Wandering Nobles Ashes will spawn five companions walking slowly together. This is usually great for bosses that move fast. So, you can distract them by spawning these five fighters and then attacking them from behind with a special attack.

Now, let's see how you can get the Wandering Nobles Ashes.

This item is located inside the Stormfoot Catacombs in Limgrave. Hopefully, you don't need to beat a boss to get the Wandering Nobles, but it's been hidden pretty well inside the catacombs.

Once you enter the Stormfoot Catacombs, go past the Site of Grace and then turn right. Go straightforward until you reach a door and then take a left. Continue the path straight in the big hall and go through the narrow passage. Now turn right and then turn right again. Before you reach the end of the hallway, there is a ladder at your right. Go up and continue the way straight until you reach a dead-end. On your left, there is an item. Pick it up, and you will get the Wandering Nobles Ashes. (Thank you, LethalLeslie !)

Using Wandering Nobles will consume 28 FP, which is not huge compared to other powerful Ashes.

Elden Ring is now available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PC.

Elden Ring: How to Use Spirit Ashes to Summon Spirits

Image of Jonathan Moore

Though Elden Ring  is a lot more accessible than previous games in the larger From Software catalog, that doesn’t mean you couldn’t use some help from time to time. Previously, this would take the form of cooperative multiplayer, but now you can summon spirits using ashes when you need a little backup. So, how does it work?

Like most everything else in Elden Ring , perhaps save fast travel, summoning spirits with spirit ashes is somewhat convoluted. The game tells you the high-level points but never delves into the details of it all, leaving you to figure that out for yourself. But having a spectral wolf or jellyfish fighting alongside you can be a saving grace.

This Elden Ring guide will peel back the curtain and tell you how to summon spirits with ashes.

How to Summon Spirits in Elden Ring

First of all, you need the Spirit Calling Bell . You can get this from the Witch Renna at the Church of Elleh after speaking with Melina for the first time . This passive Key Item gives you the power to summon spirits to you, assuming you have enough FP to do so and meet a few other criteria.

You’ll also need spirit ashes , of course. You can find these throughout the world of The Lands Between. Renna will give you the Lone Wolf ashes, while you can find Wandering Nobel Ashes in Stormfoot Catacombs and receive the Noble Sorcerer Ashes from defeating the Erdtree Burial Watchdog in the same dungeon.

Once you have ashes in your inventory, assign them to a consumable slot.

wandering noble ashes how to use

Next, you must be in an area that allows summoning . You can’t summon spirits from spirit ashes at will in Elden Ring . For the most part, these are areas with a high density of enemies or within boss fights. If you’re in an area that allows summoning, a purple gravestone icon will appear on the left side of the screen .

Until that symbol appears, all of the ashes in your consumable slots will be greyed out, indicating they can’t be used. Try to, and your character will reach to their waist, looking around perplexed.

To summon spirits, press the Use Item button/key . Your character will perform an animation, and the spirits will appear around you, each with its own life bar (individuals in groups also have their own individual life bars). And in true Souls fashion, you can be hit, damaged, and interrupted during this animation.

To dismiss spirits , press the Use Item button/key again. You will be asked if you want to continue with the action of sending them back to the beyond. You can choose “Yes” to banish them or “No” to keep them around.

You can perform both of these actions while on Torrent .

It’s also important to note: it appears you can only summon spirits in a singular, specific area once before having to rest at a Site of Grace . Whether you dismiss them or they get killed after summoning, the gravestone symbol will disappear once summoning has occurred.

For example, if I summon spirits at the Gatefront Ruins and they die, or I dismiss them, I must rest at a Site of Grace before I can summon at the Gatefront again. However, I can summon anywhere else that allows it without resting in the interim. But once I do, that area, too, is locked until I rest.

And that’s that for summoning spirits with spirit ashes in Elden Ring . Some of these helpful NPCs are worth using, while others simply aren’t. You can upgrade them later in the game, making them more useful, but don’t rely on them to defeat a tough boss or get you out of a bind. For more tips, head over to our Elden Ring hub .

Noble Sorcerer Ashes is a Spirit and Summon in Elden Ring . Noble Sorcerer Ashes summons a Sorcerer that can move and use spells to attack enemies from a distance.

The summoned Noble Sorcerer walks very slow, and doesn't attack very frequently. Only serves as a temporary distraction, but don't count on it for defeating Enemies . Since bosses aggro on the last player/npc who damages it, and the Noble Sorcerer attacks from a distance, this summon can be used with a magic build to continuously change the bosse's aggro while it approaches either the player or NPC.

Noble Sorcerers can also be found as Enemies in Elden Ring . For more information, see Wandering Nobles .

Ashen remains in which spirits yet dwell. Use to summon the spirit of a noble sorcerer. Spirit of a nobleman who once asked to be given a place at Raya Lucaria to learn glintstone sorceries. His talents were insufficient to be worthy of donning the stone crown, however, and he is only capable of using the most rudimentary sorcery.

Where to find Noble Sorcerer Ashes in Elden Ring

The Noble Sorcerer Ashes can be found at the following location:

  • Dropped by the Erdtree Burial Watchdog , at Stormfoot Catacombs . Map Link.

Elden Ring Noble Sorcerer Ashes Guide

  • Consumes Low  FP  (11)
  • Has a moderate health pool, but is unable to block enemy attacks
  • Attacks from range when possible, using the Glintstone Pebble sorcery.
  • Can follow you running, but will move slower when confronting enemies
  • Will attack with his staff when engaged in melee combat, dealing very little damage.
  • Similar to the Wandering Nobles, the Noble Sorcerer will cower in fear when facing large enemies (only confirmed with dragons), refusing to fight them.
  • You must be near a rebirth monument to summon spirits from ashes.
  • When you are close to a rebirth monument and able to summon, a monument icon will appear on the left side of the screen.

wandering noble ashes how to use

Worst ash in the game 100%

When your tarnished summons you 2 days before retirement

The ****ing sigma ashes

I mean, he costs less than most weapon skills, good ash for those who usually don't use ashes. Also he saved me from Margit's combo by intercepting aggro and let me win, so he got a Great glovewort. It's all about the friends you meet on your way

great for if you get lonely on your journey but don't want your summons impacting gameplay :')

He did his best

Okay but seriously I've actually upgraded and used him in some mid-game boss fights and was surprised. I expected him to get one-shot, but he actually took quite a few hits. And his pebble does crazy stagger damage. It was a good compliment to my strength build. Would I recommend using him? No. But it was still a pleasant surprise to see him not get completely rekt instantly.

I dont get why people think he's so bad, I put him up against Dragonlord Placidusax and he dealt 19 damage with a Glintstone Pebble before being utterly obliterated by Placidusax's Ruin. 10/10 summon, would cower in fear before again.

Some people know a meme when they see one and others take this way too seriously.

Better than mimic, tiche and Dung eater

I love having somebody at my side who is just as pathetic as I am.

What's even the point of them. Like why do we have this instead of a revenant spirit ash?

gets hit once *dies* waste of fp so if you use aow or spells plz don't use

if you want to buff this spirit, have it summon four of these guys, it would make for a decent distraction and pressure

Best summon, Soloed elden beast and malekeith all by himself

Just the two of us We can make it if we try Just the two of us Just the two of us Just the two of us Building castles in the sky Just the two of us You and I

Today is my birthday

It ain't much, but... It's ain't much, no.

the main benefit of the noble sorcerer is his cheapness, not to summon but to upgrade. no matter how cheap, it's still never worth it :(

My brother in arms

I mean what do you expect from an 11 fp summon

You can parry his spell with Carian Retaliation which means you can stand near him and parry all of the spells and get free glint swords.

Don't sleep on this spirit summons, at +10 he carried me through the Malenia fight. She couldn't stop laughing at him and I was able to take advantage of that, couldn't have done it without him.

Its not about strong God slaying spirit, but about the friends we make along the way, just summon him behind you and equip 2 walls to tank for him, pulled my man from retirement and going to make him a true elden lord. All lords need a champion to carry them after all even Marika.

If there wo would be 2 of them...then there would be 2.

I love these guys because the way they carry themselves speaks to me on an emotional level that I can relate to.

Me and pebble guy rekt Margit on the first try. Unpatched version.

Level 153 and just upgraded this guy to +10. Can't wait for him to carry me through NG+

you get what you pay for

this guy is absolutely horrible. but he's trying his best and that's what counts

wandering noble ashes how to use

Like a hall of fame QB coming out of retirement at the age of 70 because no one has the balls to tell him no. If you listen closely you can hear his dialogue, "put me in coach. I still got it"

bro got rejected from college and DIED

"Wow ... he did 7 damage ... Ah maybe this is sleeper op and once I upgrade him to +10 he's going to do 600 damage per attack! Surely my investment will be rewarded." Old man: Best I can do it 70 damage.

What a f*cking dogsh*t summon. I absolutely love him <3

just upgrade this beast to full +10 and it wrecking enemies and bosses like nobody business!!

Hey all, just updated with some new info. These guys and the Wandering Nobles will cower in fear when facing dragons (and possibly other large enemies), refusing to fight entirely. Thanks to Reddit u/zennaque for letting me know!

He's literally me.

Nothing special, it's a low level summon, but for many it will be one of the first ranged ones, so It's and introduction to DPS spirits, albeit a weak one at that.

Best summon in the game, did 11 damage to morgott

Summoned him to fight Agheel with me Threw one pebble and spent the rest of the fight curled in a ball hiding, 10/10 immersion

best summon

People, let me tell you 'bout my best friend: He's a warm-hearted person who'll love me to the end

Was a great distraction for Margit fight!

If you're hear wondering which summon is best early-- just use wolves until mid game. Sorcerer is only good for niche magic build aggro swapping strategies.

Does anyone know if upgrading him will allow him to gain the knowledge of new spells? Or is he destined to be our one pebble guy; either way, a decent cheap FP distraction.

fun lore info: its stated that he wasnt able to wear the stone crown because he has too many maidens to pay attention to, and he stumbles like a zombie because of his massive ****. Facts dont check it believe me.

He does 11 damage and shouldn't even be in the game lol

"His talents were insufficient to be worthy of donning the stone crown, however, and he is only capable ofusing the most rudimentary sorcery." Yeah I think this guy might not be the best option out of all the summon spirit choices... But he is only 11 FP so I guess he's better then nothing, he can at least distract the boss for a couple seconds.

What a chad

Only useful for taking boss aggro, scares easily.

The good summon. The nice summon. The cool summon. The best summon. The only summon. Pot's days are numbered.

wandering noble ashes how to use

He's trying his best. Maybe his 3 damage spell will get buffed. You never know.
