Launched in 2010, Norwegian Epic was the first cruise ship in the industry to feature studio accommodations for solo travelers. Norwegian Cruise Line offers this category on nine of the 19 ships in its fleet, including the newest ship, Norwegian Viva. These cabins, at an average size of 100 square feet, are designed and priced with the solo traveler in mind. They have no single supplements – and studio rooms on board Norwegian Bliss even boast virtual windows.

Guests of the studios get access to the private Studio Lounge. In this exclusive space, you can socialize with other solo travelers and enjoy complimentary refreshments. There are also singles meetups throughout the voyage and plenty of fun-filled onboard activities to mingle with like-minded cruisers. Solo travelers can check out all the fun for singles on Norwegian Viva this winter on a cruise to the Caribbean , or in spring 2024 as the ship sets sail for the Mediterranean .

MSC Cruises offers interior and balcony solo cabins for single cruisers on its Meraviglia-class ships: the MSC Meraviglia, Bellissima, Grandiosa, Virtuosa and the newest vessel in the fleet, MSC Euribia. The second-newest ship, MSC World Europa, has 28 cabins – 10 Studio Interior and 18 Studio Ocean View staterooms – designed specifically for solo travelers. MSC World America, set to debut in 2025, will also feature the solo studio staterooms.

During voyages with MSC Cruises , single cruisers are invited to a complimentary, hosted cocktail party to mix and mingle with other solo travelers. The daily program is also an excellent source to discover additional activities, entertainment and opportunities to meet other cruisers. You'll have onboard special events like the themed 70s-inspired Flower Party and the White Party, where the ship is decked out in festive white decor and guests don their best white attire. In addition, there are various sports tournaments, or you can show off your culinary expertise during a MasterChef competition.

MSC's Caribbean and Bahamas cruises departing from Miami and New York City feature an overnight visit to Ocean Cay, the line's private island and marine reserve. While there, singles can participate in fun-filled evening activities like a Champagne Sunset Cruise or a glow paddleboarding excursion in the lagoon, then attend the lively Luna Libre Party and the lighthouse show.

Three of Holland America Line's newest ships each offer 12 solo cabins to accommodate single travelers: the Pinnacle-class Nieuw Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Konigsdam. These ocean view staterooms range in size from 127 to 172 square feet and feature the same amenities as the double occupancy cabins but with a double bed. The cruise line's Single Staterooms are priced for one person. If a guest chooses to book a different stateroom, single supplements for double occupancy cabins are as much as 100% over the standard fare, depending on the voyage and the cabin category.

Long committed to solo travelers, the line offers many activities where guests can meet other singles such as wine tastings, cocktail mixers, exercise classes, daily quizzes, sports challenges and more. If you're a solo traveler and a member of AARP, Holland America is now the exclusive cruise benefit provider to AARP's members. Solo cruisers will have access to an AARP member-only onboard credit that ranges from $50 to $200, depending on the itinerary and stateroom category.

For itineraries, Holland America's Alaska cruises and cruisetours are perfect for solo travelers, offering many opportunities to connect with fellow cruisers. Another favorite for singles is the line's fall voyages sailing from Boston to Québec City or Montreal.

These solo accommodations include interior rooms, virtual balcony staterooms and a super studio ocean view stateroom with a balcony. Once on board the ship, solo cruisers will have countless options to engage and socialize with other travelers. When it comes to dining with Royal Caribbean , make a reservation at the Japanese restaurant Teppanyaki for an entertaining meal with new friends, or join fellow foodies for the intimate Chef's Table experience (the dining venues vary by ship). Singles can also participate in onboard activities like trivia contests, drink seminars, escape rooms, dance classes and pool parties.

If you need more thrills to stay busy and to meet people, Royal Caribbean's ships feature world-class shows and entertainment alongside adrenaline-pumping rides and attractions. If you're sailing in the Caribbean, there are plenty of opportunities to meet and chat with other passengers at the line's private island, Perfect Day at CocoCay.

The line's three intimate yacht-style cruise ships – World Navigator, World Traveller and the new World Voyager, whose inaugural season begins in Antarctica in November 2023 – are all-inclusive . Meals at all the dining venues, premium beverages and wines, gratuities, culturally immersive excursions, and more are included in the fare. With fewer than 200 guests on board, there's an atmosphere of conviviality on these ships – especially when exploring remote destinations with like-minded and adventurous travelers during expeditions in Antarctica and the Arctic.

10 Best Cruises for Singles of All Ages

Here are some of the best cruises for solo travelers at any age.

are there single only cruises

Elizabeth Rhodes is a special projects editor at Travel + Leisure , covering everything from luxury hotels to theme parks to must-pack travel products. Originally from South Carolina, Elizabeth moved to New York City from London, where she started her career as a travel blogger and writer.

are there single only cruises

Traveling the world without having to pack and unpack multiple times is ideal. And on a cruise, that's a reality as you head from destination to destination on what is basically a moving luxury hotel (or a floating city, in some cases ).

Being able to sleep in Bratislava and wake up in Budapest in five-star-worthy accommodations without having to drag all your stuff with you is as convenient as it is luxurious. But cruises aren't just for couples or families — they're great for singles as well.

Colleen McDaniel, the editor-in-chief of Cruise Critic , tells Travel + Leisure that cruises are a great place to meet new people. Some ships have single cabins, host parties for single passengers, or even waive the single supplement fee ( river cruises tend to do that most often).

For example, Norwegian Cruise Line offers studio cabins for single travelers that include access to an exclusive lounge with complimentary espresso and snacks. "One of the benefits of sailing as a single is cruises are generally social. That's how they're designed," McDaniel says. "If you're somebody who's comfortable traveling by themselves and looks to make friends on vacation, there's no shortage of people you're going to meet."

But while younger travelers might want to hop around Europe and party every night, someone in their 50s may be interested in a longer cruise with opportunities for cultural immersion. Whatever your travel style, here are the best cruises for singles of any age.

Cruises for Singles in Their 20s

Cruises that last three to five nights are great for singles in their 20s, in part because they're less expensive, McDaniel says. If you do end up having to pay for a single supplement, "it's a little bit less of a hit to your wallet."

New cruise line Virgin Voyages offers exciting journeys aboard their ultra-Instagrammable ship, Scarlet Lady . The four-night Fire and Sunset Soirees cruise from Miami is ideal for travelers in their 20s or 30s looking for a healthy mix of party and wellness. All cruisers must be fully vaccinated and test negative for COVID-19 upon boarding.

Another great option is a three-day cruise to the Bahamas from Miami on Norwegian Sky . The ship was refurbished in 2019 and offers 10 dining options, a full-service Starbucks, and a casino for late-night bonding around the blackjack table with your new shipmates. Proof of COVID-19 vaccination is required upon boarding for guests ages 12 and up.

Cruises for Singles in Their 30s

According to McDaniel, cruisers in their 30s are likely looking for a good mix of "bustling nightlife and engaging in classes, but they also really want to explore and experience culture." She says river cruises that offer things like silent discos and paint-and-wine classes appeal to this age group.

The eight-day Vienna Vibe cruise from U by Uniworld is a great option (note the cruise line is on hiatus until 2023). This cruise line was originally built to cater to millennials, and this itinerary includes excursions like a walking tour of Vienna and biking around Passau. On board, morning yoga classes and a rooftop ice bar ensure guests will always have something to do. A negative COVID-19 test may be required for unvaccinated passengers when entering foreign countries.

Other travelers might want to opt for a South American adventure with National Geographic. The 10-day Upper Amazon river cruise aboard the Delfin II offers a chance to spot diverse wildlife within this impressive ecosystem.

Cruises for Singles in Their 40s

Upscale, bigger cruises on ships from Princess, Holland America, and Celebrity will likely appeal to cruisers in their 40s, McDaniel says. These cruises tend to be a bit more expensive, but "appeal because they have some really great excursions and might go off the beaten path. They're destination-immersive experiences."

The seven-night Galapagos Southern Loop on Celebrity Xpedition is one fantastic option. The Galapagos Islands are a great destination for solo travelers and this cruise is a solid way to see them. Search for sea turtles, sea lions, and blue-footed boobies during the day, and spend the evening in the ship's hot tub or take in one of the nightly lectures by certified naturalists from the Galapagos National Park. All guests must be fully vaccinated and test negative for COVID-19 upon entry.

A seven-day Norwegian Fjords cruise aboard Princess Cruises' Sky Princess is an additional option for travelers hoping to explore another part of the world best seen from a ship.

Cruises for Singles in Their 50s

McDaniel says that a river cruise is a great option for someone in their 50s, with some lines waiving the single supplement fee and putting age restrictions on passengers (since you may not want little kids running around). Some companies, she notes, do a great job of hosting single mixers, which adds to the social experience. A cruise along the Danube or Rhine rivers is always a great choice, and there are several lines to choose from.

Sail along the Rhine, Main, and Danube rivers on Viking's Grand European Tour , which starts in Amsterdam and ends in Budapest. Along the way, the ship stops in charming towns and major European capitals for a well-rounded trip through continental Europe.

The twelve-day Cities of Light cruise , also from Viking River Cruises, carries passengers between Paris and Prague with several stops in Germany along the way. On board, sip a glass of wine and enjoy the sight of the cities slipping by. For both Viking Cruises, guests must be fully vaccinated and test negative for COVID-19 upon boarding.

Cruises for Single Seniors

A world cruise is a great option for seniors, McDaniel says, as they tend to have more free time. These cruises visit multiple countries over a longer period of time, and after a while, the boat feels like home.

"One of the great things about being a senior is you tend to have a far more flexible schedule," she says. "You also likely have a bit more disposable income."

The 71-day Grand Africa Voyage from Holland America Line offers a round-trip journey from Fort Lauderdale, stopping in Portugal, Spain, Morocco, Greece, Jordan, Tanzania, Madagascar, South Africa, and more on its cruise around the African continent. All guests must be fully vaccinated and test negative for COVID-19 upon arrival.

Cunard's Centenary World Voyages is even longer, at 117 nights aboard the Queen Mary 2 . The cruise includes two transatlantic crossings and stops across Asia, South Africa, and Australia, departing and arriving in New York City. On a cruise this long, even the shiest solo traveler is bound to make a few friends. All guests ages 12 and up must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 14 days prior to travel.

With only four ships in the fleet, your choice of destination is slightly more limited, though you can still visit picturesque locations in Europe, the Caribbean , parts of Southern Asia and Australia. The Southeastern Caribbean Isles package will take you on a roundtrip from Puerto Rico, stopping in Guadeloupe, Barbados, St Lucia and Antigua.

Norwegian Cruise Line

Norwegian was the first cruise company to build ships with cabins and lounge areas that were specifically for solo travellers, and there are now around 1,000 solo cabins across its ships. Solo travellers can choose from Oceanview rooms, inside rooms, rooms with a balcony and even studios, and they will have access to the Solo Lounge – a private lounge only for guests travelling alone – where various events and happy hours are held.

Normal packages include food and onboard activities, though several bookings let you choose to add extras – from shore excursions to speciality meals or a free bar – for a small added fee. Norwegian sail across a wide range of destinations too, from the British Isles and the Mediterranean to Hawaii, Alaska and the Caribbean.

Tauck claims to have specialised in solo travel for over 90 years, and today this translates to special solo savings and no single supplement on European river cruises. Travellers looking to see the continent ‘solo style’ can benefit from savings of up to £750, and will enjoy more stylish, contemporary ships with fewer guests for an overall more luxurious experience. Trips cover Europe’s main waterways, and prices include all food, drink, activities and shore tours. Choose the Yuletide package between Brussels and Amsterdam for a festive experience at some of the best Christmas markets – and prettiest waterways – on the continent.

Ambassador Cruise Line

Ambassador is a new cruise line where trips begin in cities around the UK , including Liverpool , Belfast, Dundee and Bristol. Both Ambience and Ambition have 89 dedicated cabins set aside for solo travellers, available “at a special single supplement against the equivalent twin fare based on selected single cabin categories”. The operator journeys to a vast range of destinations considering there are only two ships in its fleet, with voyages going as far as Singapore , Brazil and New Zealand.

Ambassador’s cruises contain an extensive programme of activities for solo passengers, including a ‘Welcome Get Together’ and guided tours together with other solo travellers. Other onboard entertainment ranges from West End-style shows to comedy nights, with plenty of opportunities to meet others. If cruising during winter, visit Norway to see wondrous fjords and (possibly) the aurora borealis, with the Land of the Northern Lights package.

Oceania has made considerable investment in providing options for solo travellers, with its newest ship, Vista, containing six 270-square-foot solo cabins that include balconies, premium lounge access and a welcome bottle of champagne. It has fitted its older ships with 14 ‘Solo Staterooms’, all of which offer magnificent sea views.

Oceania voyages make it easy to meet like-minded travellers with solo meet-and-greet events, large mixed dining tables, mixed shore excursions and single-traveller activities such as art classes. Destinations range from the Mediterranean and Scandinavia to South Africa and the tropics, meaning solo travellers have opportunities to see a large portion of the world alone. Book the 14-day  Miami to Tenerife cruise  to experience Mediterranean charm and Caribbean beauty in late March.

Royal Caribbean

Royal Caribbean say that they do not “have specific pricing for single occupancy” cabins, but that they do offer single cabins on some of their ships, including Brilliance of the Seas, Anthem of the Seas, Quantum of the Seas, Ovation of the Seas, Harmony of the Seas and Spectrum of the Seas. These cruises “can be reserved by someone cruising alone without the usual single supplement fee”, and they cover an extensive range of destinations, from Europe to the Caribbean and Singapore to Australia.

Passengers can reserve inside studio staterooms, virtual balcony staterooms and super studio ocean view stateroom with balconies, giving them between 101 and 199 square feet of space. Everything else will be the same as usual, meaning you can enjoy the same benefits as every other guests without paying a premium. If departing from the UK, the only tours available take you around Europe; the most extensive is the Mediterranean Cities package, covering Seville, Sardinia, Rome , Lisbon and more.

The 5 best cruise lines for solo travelers

Gene Sloan

Editor's Note

Thinking of taking a cruise as a solo traveler? Here's the bad news: With many lines, you could end up paying twice as much as someone traveling with a companion.

Most cruise ship cabins are designed for two, and the cruise rates you see advertised for these cabins are per person, based on double occupancy . That means the rates are only available to customers who will be sharing the cabin with a second paying passenger.

For more cruise guides, news and tips, sign up for TPG's new cruise newsletter .

If you want to occupy one of these cabins alone, you'll pay a premium that, in cruise world lingo, is known as the "single supplement." Often, that premium is 100%. In other words, even if you don't have a second person in your cabin, you'll be paying an extra fare as if you did.

Still, all is not lost if you're a singleton wanting to experience life at sea. Spurred by increasing demand, a growing number of cruise lines are adding cabins designed specifically for solo travelers (with pricing that, by definition, is based on single occupancy). Some lines routinely offer lower single supplement charges than others, or they reduce or waive single supplements during promotions.

Of course, it's not just a low price that makes for a good solo cruise. Just as important for many people traveling alone is the opportunity to meet other like-minded solo travelers through meet-and-greet receptions and organized group dining for solo cruisers. Some cruise lines do a better job with this than others.

Looking at all these criteria — price, cabin options and a welcoming environment — I've identified five lines going the extra mile for cruisers traveling alone. Here are my top picks for the best cruise lines for solo travelers.

Norwegian Cruise Line

Credit Norwegian for kicking off the trend of more solo cabins on cruise ships. In 2010, the big-ship line debuted an entire zone of small "studio" cabins for one — 128 in all — on its then-new, 4,100-passenger Norwegian Epic. It was such a hit that other lines began to follow.

Just 100 square feet but superbly designed to maximize storage space, the solo rooms on Norwegian Epic are clustered around an exclusive Studio Lounge. It has a bar and television area where solo travelers can mingle at daily hosted happy hour gatherings.

Norwegian has since added similar solo cabin areas with exclusive lounges to seven more new ships, including its two newest vessels, Norwegian Viva and Norwegian Prima . Both ships have a 73-cabin solo complex that spreads across two decks.

The bigger Norwegian Encore, Norwegian Escape and Norwegian Bliss all have an 82-cabin solo complex, while two older ships — Norwegian Breakaway and Norwegian Getaway — have solo areas with 59 cabins.

Norwegian also offers four solo cabins on its Hawaii-based Pride of America.

Having sailed in one of Norwegian's cabins for one, I can confidently declare them among the coolest solo digs at sea. I particularly love the futuristic "Jetsons"-like design and the multicolored mood lighting.

One big caveat: They're all inside cabins without an ocean view, although most have a window that looks out onto a corridor. On Norwegian Bliss, the solo cabins have a virtual porthole that offers a live view of the outside world via an LED screen.

Related: Why a windowless inside cabin isn't so bad

A bigger caveat, perhaps, is that these solo cabins have become so popular they often sell out far in advance, and at prices that aren't much better than booking a cabin for two.

Royal Caribbean

Royal Caribbean has taken a page from Norwegian's playbook in recent years by adding solo cabins to both new and older ship classes . The line's Quantum-class vessels, which began debuting in 2014, offer up to 28 of these dedicated studio cabins, which measure from 101 to 119 square feet.

Unlike Norwegian's solo digs, some cabins are ocean-view rooms with balconies. Others have a virtual balcony that, at first glance, looks like a veranda but is really just a digital screen projecting a real-time view of the outside. (It sounds corny, but it works.)

are there single only cruises

Other Royal Caribbean ships with solo cabins include some of the line's giant Oasis-class vessels, including Symphony of the Seas and Wonder of the Seas . Several of Royal Caribbean's older Voyager-class and Radiance-class vessels also have solo cabins. But some of these ships have just two or three.

While the solo cabins on Royal Caribbean ships don't come with a dedicated solo lounge, solo travelers will find Royal Caribbean-hosted meetups for solo travelers on the vessels, which is a great way for single travelers to find others in the same boat, so to speak. There's also quite a bar scene on Royal Caribbean ships, with rows of bar seats in many bars that are a great place to find other solo travelers.

Additionally, Royal Caribbean ships are particularly known for their wide range of onboard activities, from big-production shows to rock-climbing walls and surfing pools, that you can enjoy just fine as a solo traveler.

Silversea Cruises

Unlike Norwegian and Royal Caribbean, Silversea hasn't created a specific cabin category for solo travelers. But the luxury line is known for catering to them with single supplements of just 10% to 25% on select sailings. Occasionally, during short-term promotions, the line even will waive the single supplement entirely.

Silversea also hosts welcome receptions for solo travelers at the start of every voyage to kick off the mingling process.

are there single only cruises

Operating relatively small, intimate vessels that carry just a few hundred passengers, Silversea is known for drawing a social crowd that likes to mix and mingle, particularly at dinnertime — a boon for people like me who don't like to eat alone.

Head to the main lounge just before dinner on a Silversea ship, and there's a good chance you'll be pulled into a conversation with a group of complete strangers who will extend a dinner invitation. This has happened to me so many times on Silversea ships that I almost count on it.

Related: 6 reasons you'll want to book a balcony cabin on your next cruise

On Silversea's expedition sailings, you can also share meals with ship naturalists and expedition guides who join passengers in public dining venues. From my experience, they are always amenable to a friendly dining companion and some good conversation.

Virgin Voyages

Of course, there's always the rebellious startup line Virgin Voyages , backed by Richard Branson's Virgin Group, which draws fun-loving folks (but not just millennials ). It's shaping up to be a leader in the solo cruise market, judging from my experience when I sailed on its first ship, Scarlet Lady .

The vessel boasts 46 cabins specifically designed for lone travelers — as do its newer sisters, Valiant Lady and Resilient Lady . That's a big number for a ship with just 1,330 cabins overall. We haven't yet sailed in one of their solo rooms, but based on what we saw when we toured Scarlet Lady, they might just become the coolest digs-for-one around.

are there single only cruises

The solo accommodations on Scarlet Lady, Valiant Lady and Resilient Lady include 40 windowless, 105-square-foot Solo Insider rooms on each vessel that are sleek and stylish with full-size beds, large flat-screen televisions, curvy vanities and high-design bathrooms. Six similar-looking Solo Sea View cabins on each vessel measure about 130 square feet and offer windows.

Note that the solo cabins with windows are at the front of the ships, facing forward. While that's a spectacular location for sightseeing, seasoned cruisers know that cabins in this location can be bumpy in rough seas. I love a little movement when I cruise (how else do you know you're at sea?), but if you don't, consider yourself warned.

Meanwhile, for solos, you'll find that Virgin's hopping bar scene — and adult-focused atmosphere — is perfect for solos looking to meet up with other single travelers. With a ban on children under 18, you won't find families with kids on this line. It's all about solo travelers, couples and friend groups looking to have a good time and engage with their shipmates on board.

Solo travelers looking for an upscale river cruise can often find a deal from Tauck, a high-end tour company with a European cruise division. It markets more than half a dozen river vessels.

Tauck often eliminates its single supplement completely on its least-expensive category of cabins (Category 1) and reduces single supplements for other cabin categories (with savings up to $1,000 in select categories).

are there single only cruises

On board, Tauck directors and cruise directors take special care of solo travelers, and communal tables at mealtime make it easy to meet other travelers.

Cruisers traveling alone can seek out others at the bar (no worries about the bar tab — drinks are included) or escape to a quiet sun deck spot with a book when they're tired of socializing. Daily shore excursions and tours are included, so you'll always have a group ready to explore with you on land.

River cruising in general is ideal for solo travelers, and other river lines also waive or significantly lower single supplement charges. Avalon Waterways waives its single supplement charge for some cabins on every cruise departure in Europe, and AmaWaterways charges a single supplement of just 50% for solo travelers booking non-suite cabins. It also has four ships in Europe that each have two dedicated solo cabins that carry no single supplement.

Bottom line

As someone who often cruises alone when writing about ships, I've found that smaller ships often are better for mixing and mingling than bigger ships .

On small ships, you'll see the same people again and again — on tours, in lounges, around the pool and so forth; this increases the odds you'll strike up a conversation and soon become fast friends. On big ships with thousands of passengers, you might go days without seeing the same person twice.

The lines that operate small ships are also more prone to offering discounts for solo travelers, which results in a higher percentage of individual cruisers onboard. That said, for the most part, the lines operating bigger ships are offering the most dedicated solo cabins. They also offer more onboard activities, from Broadway shows to rock-climbing walls, that you don't need companions to enjoy.

Not that you should worry too much about making friends at sea. Cruisers, in general, are social people. In fact, many passengers cruise specifically to meet others. I can't tell you how many times I've been sitting alone in a corner of a cruise ship lounge, minding my own business, when another passenger (or two or five) stopped by and struck up a conversation.

Whether you choose one of our top cruise lines for solo travelers or another line that suits your fancy, you're bound to have a good time with as much or as little alone time as you desire.

Solo Cruises: The Ultimate Guide to Cruising Solo

Last updated: April 26th, 2023

Woman on a cruise

  • Find a Cruise

A solo cruise is an excellent vacation choice if you’re looking to experience exciting destinations around the world and make new friends along the way.

Sometimes you don’t want to wait to see a destination until you have a travel partner who can go with you. Maybe you just like the introspective time that a solo vacation can provide.

Traveling alone doesn’t mean you have to rough it, backpack, or do all the planning yourself.

If you’re considering taking a cruise vacation by yourself, here are some solo cruise tips to help make your journey an unforgettable experience.

Choose a Cruise Line That’s Solo-Friendly

Woman aboard Celebrity Cruises

Iconic Suite on Celebrity Edge

Not all cruise lines are the same. If you’re planning your much-deserved vacation and you want to travel solo, pick a line that welcomes single travelers.

Celebrity Cruises has beautiful single staterooms, many with a private veranda, and offers hosted social events for solo travelers.

You’ll find a vast range of excursions on offer, many of which are the perfect bonding opportunity for anybody looking to make new friends, and a safe, inclusive environment on board.

Bartender putting on a show at the Martini Bar

Martini Bar

The spas and fitness facilities on board are second to none. There’s dazzling entertainment on every ship, whether you want to take a front row seat at the Martini Bar and watch the mixologists at work, or take in one of our state-of-the-art shows.

Celebrity is also one of the most LGBTQ+-friendly cruise lines in the business, too.

All this adds up to Celebrity Cruises being the perfect choice for solo travelers, something that has been recognized by the travel industry. Celebrity was the proud winner of the 2022 Solo Traveler Magellan Award, presented by leading travel industry publication Travel Weekly.

Single Staterooms on Celebrity Silhouette and all Edge-series Ships

Celebrity Apex cruise ship

Celebrity Apex

With every new ship, Celebrity has added more staterooms to its fleet that are solo-traveler friendly – and many of them have a private veranda, too. Don’t miss out on a trip of a lifetime because you don’t have a travel partner who can go with you.

Celebrity Beyond has 32 solo staterooms with an Infinite Veranda, as does the new Celebrity Ascent. Celebrity Apex features 24, while Celebrity Edge is home to 16 solo staterooms. Celebrity Silhouette will also have 4 inside single staterooms perfect for solo guests.

These single staterooms start at 131 square feet, giving you plenty of space to move around. Not only are single staterooms spacious, but they’re also outfitted with the same modern, sleek design and luxurious amenities as all staterooms on Celebrity’s ships.

On Edge-series ships, the larger single stateroom with infinite veranda is perfect for solo cruise guests, a generous 184 square feet including the veranda space.

The infinite veranda isn’t like a normal cruise ship balcony. With the push of a button, the doors to your veranda seamlessly open and fold into the sides of the room, bringing the outdoors in, making it perfect for those who love to soak up the sun and the views from their own private space.

What Are The Best Cruises For Solo Travelers?

View of the Sky Lounge

The best cruises for solo travelers depend on the experiences you most want out of a vacation.

Are you a thrill-seeker looking to cross items off your bucket list? Want to see the capital cities of Europe without hotel-hopping and planning all your own accommodations and train travel? Are you more interested in hiking or history?

Celebrity has crafted different itineraries for travelers of all kinds, from introverts who prefer fewer social activities to extroverts who thrive on meeting new people.

Man snorkeling in St Croix

Craving time in the sun against the backdrop of white sand beaches and crystalline waters? Consider a 7- or 10-night Caribbean cruise , where snorkeling and diving shore excursions are bound to introduce you to people with similar interests and a sense of adventure.

If you’re a history buff, tour thousand-year-old churches in Italy or see the ancient ruins of Greece up close.

People on an excursion in the Galapagos Islands

Galapagos Islands

Or choose the Galapagos Islands, where you’ll share life-affirming adventures with fellow travelers every day, gathering together in the evenings to swap stories.

There is no shortage of options for cruisers who are traveling solo.

What About Solo Cruises For Seniors?

Old man hiking with backpack on

On a cruise, seniors can enjoy a worry-free vacation featuring world-class accommodations and a travel experience tailored to their interests.

Celebrity’s cruises have onboard activities to suit everyone, from thrilling entertainment and live music to guest speaker series and guided meditations.

On solo cruises for seniors , accessible staterooms and excursions for all types of mobility levels ensure guests see as much of the world as they desire.

Tips For Making New Friends During Your Solo Cruise

People hanging out at Craft Social

Craft Social

Just because you’re cruising solo doesn’t mean you have to be alone, unless you want to be, of course. Here are a few ways to make friends—and memories—onboard.

Get to Know the Crew During Your Solo Cruise

One of the best things about sailing with Celebrity is the friendly, engaging crew from all around the world. Many guests enjoy talking with them and learning about the area of the globe they’re from.

Bartender crafting drinks

World Class Bar

Finding a bartender you get along with so you can have your own “local” bar on the ship is an easy way to feel comfortable in a lounge while cruising solo.

Get to know your cruise director, who you’ll often see walking around the ship. If they know you’re a solo cruise passenger, they may give you some insider tips on upcoming activities or entertainment you won’t want to miss.

Join New, Dedicated Events for Solo Travelers

View of Eden aboard Celebrity Cruises

Meet fellow solos in a friendly environment at Celebrity Cruises’ new Solo Travelers’ Gathering and Dinner, hosted by the Activity Team.

Check the time in your Celebrity App or Celebrity Today daily program and head for the Sky Lounge (on Millennium and Solstice-series ships) or luscious Eden on Edge-series ships, where you can meet fellow solo travelers. The friendly Activity Team will help break the ice.

People on an excursion in the Galapagos Islands

The Shore Excursions team will be present to facilitate bookings should you meet a potential buddy to join you for excursions.

There will also be a special solos’ table at dinner that night, and an unhosted solos’ table every night thereafter for anybody who is enjoying the company of new friends for dinner. This is the perfect opportunity to get together with other people traveling solo.

Get Out & Mingle

You might be tempted to unwind in your stateroom after busy days ashore. However, spending time in public spaces on the ship is a great way to meet new people.

People hanging out at night on a cruise

Celebrity Edge

Strike up a conversation and make some new friends on the very first night of the cruise. Perch at the bar for drinks if you feel awkward sitting alone at a table. Get chatting on shore excursions, and join group activities on board.

Celebrity’s ships are equipped with high-speed WiFi so it’s easy and convenient to start a WhatsApp group to arrange activities and meet-ups with newfound friends.

People playing casino

Say Yes to Dining With New People

Joining people for dinner is a great way to make friends and have a fun meal at the Main Restaurant or in a specialty restaurant.

People laughing while eating

People will likely be intrigued by you traveling on your own, want to get to know you better, and enhance their own dining experience. Even couples like to socialize and meet new people on vacation. Since you’re all travelers who enjoy seeing the world, it’s easy to swap travel stories.

The solos’ table is also always an option. Sitting here is a great way to meet other adventurous solo travelers and swap stories.

Opt for an Assigned Seating Time for Dinner

As a solo cruise traveler, you may benefit more from doing a traditional assigned seating time instead of dining at different times.

With an assigned seating time, you’ll be sat at the same table each night with other cruise passengers and the same crew waiting on you. It will give you some familiarity as your tablemates, server, and sommelier get to know you and your dining preferences—and sparkling personality!

Woman raising glass for a toast

If you don’t feel totally compatible with the other folks at your table, talk to the maître d’ and ask for a different table.

If you’re seated at a table on your own and feel self-conscious, have a book or journal on hand. A journal is a lovely way to pass the time at dinner, giving you the opportunity to reflect on the day and write about all the amazing things you saw in port or did on the ship.

Book Shore Excursions Through the Cruise Line

People on a train in Alaska

Celebrity’s shore excursions highlight the best parts of a destination and provide unforgettable experiences. Bond with fellow passengers by exploring the port together. You’ll have the chance to run into them again on the ship for more fun and conversation.

When you book a shore excursion, you know you’ll be spending your day surrounded by other travelers on your ship. Most ports have multiple ships calling at them each day, so it’s better to spend the day making new friends with people who will board your ship at the end of the day.

Woman preparing for a zipline

Choose an excursion that features a hands-on activity. This gets people out of their element and provides easy conversation starters.

Chatting with others while hiking through a rainforest or waiting on a zip-lining platform can lead to fun conversations. Choosing a tour like a wine tasting or a cooking class is a great way to break the ice with fellow passengers.

Bus tour in San Francisco, California

San Francisco, California

If you go on a sightseeing shore excursion on a bus, try to sit up near the front so you’re close to the guide. They’ll usually be open to conversations and are a wealth of knowledge on the destination you’re visiting.

You can ask questions and also learn about what it’s like to live there. It’s a way to have some socialization throughout your solo cruise day in port while also learning more about the city or town you’re visiting.

People walking to the boat for an excursion

The best part? All the details are taken care of for you. You’ll be conveniently guided right to your shore excursion transportation from the ship. You’re guaranteed to be back to the ship in time before it leaves for the next port.

Take Classes Onboard

Sommelier discussing wine to guests

Cellar Masters

Join in beverage and culinary programs on board and mingle with like-minded passengers who, like you, appreciate a glass of fine wine or an expertly prepared meal. Onboard classes and seminars give you the chance to see cooking demonstrations, learn about the art of wine tasting, and more. You can even create your own wine blend onboard.

If wine isn’t your thing, you can learn the art of bartending in a Mixology 101 class. Sample a martini flight at the Martini Bar. Into whisky? Try the Macallan Flight Experience, which lets you taste a trio of whiskies. Or join one of the gaming classes in the casino; once you’re confident to try your luck at the tables, it’s easy to strike up a conversation.

Yoga class aboard Celebrity Cruises

If you like to work out, the classes at the Fitness Center are a great way to meet like-minded travelers. Workout classes on cruise ships tend to attract a core of enthusiasts, after the initial well-intentioned rush during the first day of the cruise, and you could find yourself making plans to meet new friends every day for yoga, or F45.

Single Travelers Guide to Planning a Solo Cruise.

There’s never been a better time to try something new. and doing so on your own terms..

A solo cruise isn't just a vacation; it's a chance for self-discovery and the creation of unforgettable memories on the open seas.

The idea of going on a cruise alone can be daunting — but solo travel is the way of the future. Luckily, US News & World Report named Virgin Voyages “among the best cruises for solo travelers ” in 2022.

Solo Travel is on the Rise

Solo cruises are the new norm in 2024, as people are increasingly willing to take on adventure themselves if their friends or family can’t be convinced to join. “There is a really wonderful circular relationship between self-esteem and traveling ,” licensed psychologist Dr. Chloe Carmichael Peet told NBC News. “Traveling in itself is an act of confidence. The fact that you went somewhere by yourself demonstrates strength.”

We’re inclined to agree — although between the bounty of onboard entertainment shows and events we curate and our carefully compiled list of Shore Things for when you dock, you won’t need to demonstrate too much strength on a voyage.

A study by MMGY found that one in four travelers plans to travel solo in the next six months. Will you be among them? Whether it’s with a classic, relaxing 4-night jaunt through the Caribbean or a sprawling 15-night getaway across the Mediterranean, you deserve some “you” time. See you on board for a solo cruise, Sailor!

Plan a Solo Cruise, Reconnect and Meet other Singles

Planning and going on a solo cruise can be a liberating and empowering experience, especially if it is your first cruise and you have no set expectations. Traveling on a cruise ship with like minded people who may also be traveling solo provides plenty of opportunity to meet new people. When traveling solo whether you’re over 30, 40, or 50, it’s your time to explore on your terms. You’ll be able to set your own schedule, or if you happen to meet someone on board you can schedule activities you’re both interested in through our Mobile App. We are an adult only cruise line that caters to solo travelers, with our cruise ships having a sociable atmosphere and plenty of social events. As a solo traveler, you may want relaxation, or adventure, or a bit of both, regardless if you are a solo traveler that likes quiet time, or to be in the mix of social fun you’ll find plenty of activities on board our cruise ships, and on shore excursions. Remember when planning your solo cruise to pack wisely. Consider what to wear on your cruise , although we don’t have a dress policy onboard our cruise ships, nor do we force you into a formal night, you still want to consider our cruise activities and dressing for shore excursions.

A Solo Cruise for Singles, and everyone in between

People of any relationship status can find fun aboard one of our voyages, and our exclusively adult philosophy creates an alluring onboard atmosphere that draws like-minded people to one another.

Our Crew has put a lot of thought into inclusive activities and spaces on board the ship, from a “grog walk” (Virginese for “pub crawl”) through our many bars to the shared table concept at Gunbae, our convivial, first-to-sea Korean BBQ restaurant — where diners mingle while seated around a table, all sharing the same grill.

“I came expecting to relax, eat some great food and have fun. What I didn’t expect was to meet such an amazing group of humans while traveling alone,” posted Braunwyn Windham-Burke of The Real Housewives of Orange County about her experience cruising single on Scarlet Lady. “I’m coming back different than I left, healing through joy, stronger and more aware of myself.”

Booking a Single Cabin for Solo Travelers

Our adult only cruise ships aren’t just retreats for the rich and reality TV-famous, though. The Insider and Sea View cabins are priced attractively for people traveling alone — and subscribers to the Virgin Voyages email list are often notified of promotions on double occupancy rooms with no single supplement, meaning you can spread out without the customary extra charge.

Take advantage of booking a single cabin on board a Virgin Voyage cruise ship, find a solo cruise deal and start saving. Our cruise cabins are super-yacht inspired cabins, built to optimize space and views . Perfect for solo travelers yearning for sophistication, relaxation, with VIP service! Enjoy comfort and privacy to your heart's desire in your own space, but if you ever feel need for a guest, our cabin beds are designed to be converted to give that living room vibe while making for a welcoming space of enjoyment.

Best Cruise Line for Singles and Solo Travelers

Our adults-only cruises make the perfect atmosphere for single cruisers to meet new friends. With plenty of onboard activities and entertainment, you won’t lack for excitement or things to do. From bar crawls to adult games, and cruise karaoke you’ll have plenty of laughs and fun. 18 Norwegian Bliss

Norwegian Bliss offers comfort and privacy in equal doses. It has elegant studio staterooms that accommodate multiple solo cabins. A designated lounge for such travelers is stocked with beverages and snacks. This lounge offers extra privacy since only studio passengers can access this area. It also has numerous venues for active singles interested in mingling and keeping the party going.

Singles can indulge in group-oriented activities like racing others on the Bliss Speedway. Other activities include wine tastings at the Michael Mondavi Family Wine Bar or cocktails while engaging in great conversations at O’Sheehan’s Pub.

17 Virgin Voyages

Virgin Voyage offers the perfect cruises for singles. The company typically accommodates travelers hoping to ditch the baby boomer’s way of cruising. From spectacular private beach bonfire parties to organic food choices and deluxe interior design, what else could solo travelers want from such a cruise? Virgin Voyages is famed for small-scale eateries, inventive modern performances, and a hundred percent complimentary Wi-Fi, unlike other cruises that offer buffets and Broadway-style musicals.

16 Discovery Princess

Whoever coined the term ‘paradise’ must have been in Discovery Princess. It features live auctions, a picturesque gallery to read through, and ship-wide public art displays. From attending dancing lessons to having epic nightlife and educational cocktail storytelling experiences, Discovery Princess will offer solo travelers endless activities to keep them making memories to last a lifetime.

Travelers will not have genuinely experienced Discovery Princess without sampling world cuisine from Michelin-star chefs and specialty coffees at the International Café in the European–style Piazza.

15 Holland American Line

This is a fantastic option for those embarking on solo travel around the world . But Holland is best suited for slightly older singles. These ships are the ultimate cruise for travelers hoping to mingle with mature and eligible solo travelers heading for a luxurious getaway. Here, the majority are divorcees or widowers.

Although it is a bit pricier than its counterparts, the quality is top-notch, and the services are out of this world. For instance, Holland American provides a restrained number of solo cabins on their most recent ships, which are more spacious than the Norwegian’s staterooms. They are also equipped with ocean-view windows.

Take advantage of Holland America's Club Orange amenities program to enjoy perks like a dedicated concierge line, complimentary stateroom upgrades, and an in-room breakfast menu.

14 Cunard Line

Cunard Cruise Line offers amazing singles-only cruises. However, it is a bit different from other cruises. Cunard ships, particularly the Queen Mary 11, are usually involved in more extended travel plans. Since the cruise entails numerous ocean crossings, more senior and refined travelers get attracted to the Cunard line. There is a considerable probability of singles finding each other on the Cunard Line since travelers have more sea days than port days.

13 Carnival Panorama

Carnival Panorama provides remarkable value for single cruisers. It has an exceptional variety for solo travelers in their 20s and 30s, thus making mingling incredibly seamless. From incredible deck dance parties to trivia competitions and social club parties, its general vibe is upbeat.

Solo travelers also tend to have incredible fun in the sun. The adults-only Serenity Deck is the ultimate escape from the frenzy of public venues. The lounge is only accessible to travelers above 21 years old and features sea-view hot tubs, luxurious loungers, and shaded cabanas for relaxation.

12 MSC Cruises

MSC is loved by the millennials, including lots of singles. Solo travelers will have more time to interact with a bigger mix of individuals as passengers keep boarding at different ports during a seven-night cruise in Europe. The singles will love the European vibe that incorporates late-night discos.

11 Nieuw Statendam

Solo travelers who love nature will have unforgettable moments aboard Holland America’s Nieuw Statendam. The luxurious cruises through the Southern Caribbean are magical. Sunseekers will have incredible experiences at Amber Cove, a new port outside Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic. The aquatic attraction offers breathtaking views and unique experiences. Cruisers can enjoy the swim-up bar and picturesque seaside cabanas at zero charge.

There are also seasonal cruises to check out; travelers can get the most out from cruise trips for the holiday season , for example. Alternatively, if they prefer to go solo backpacking around the world, globe-trotters can check out Hostelworld's new Roamies app designed for solo backpackers .

10 Royal Caribbean Ovation Of The Seas

Solo travelers using Royal Caribbean will be pleasantly surprised with the fun presented on this ship. The most notable feature of this Royal Caribbean singles cruise is the virtual window in the interior’s studio staterooms. The windows make it easy for travelers to experience everything outside that window while cruising. The solo studio option also entails an ocean-view stateroom with a balcony.

Royal Caribbean is also filled with intricate and unique surprises. Travelers can live a day unlike any other with a cruise to CocoCay, a private island destination in the Bahamas. Here, solo travelers can mingle as they indulge in fun activities such as ziplining, snorkeling, helium balloon riding, etc.

Remember to step into the North Star while cruising on the Ovation of The Seas. This unique rotating capsule offers stunning 360-degree views of the surroundings.

9 Uncruise Adventures

Uncruise Adventures is one of the best cruise ship options to leave adventurers with unforgettable memories. Their small size makes it seamless for singles to connect. The line provides travel plans to some incredible and remote places that have been nerve-wracking to even the major cruise lines. With Uncruise Adventures, solo travelers aren’t expected to pay for double occupancy.

8 Halong Bay Party Cruise

Take one's cruise to a new level with a dedicated cruise for young adults. The Halong Bay Party Cruise provides booze and music with plenty of activities. Enjoy being in the company of other fun-loving young people on a party cruise. Halong Bay is located in northeast Vietnam and is famous for its emerald waters and thousands of towering limestone islands with tropical rainforests. Activities include sightseeing, kayaking, swimming, rock climbing, beach volleyball, and more. The cost is around $160 for two days and one night.

7 Carnival Cruise Line

Carnival Cruise Line is famous for attracting one of the youngest demographics in the industry. They have over two dozen "Fun Ships" that are jam-packed with party-related attractions. They have plenty of bars, open-air poolside deck parties, live music, and on the ships, Carnival Vista and Carnival Horizon breweries. Imagine enjoying beer brewed onboard the cruise ship. They also boast some of the best nightclubs out at sea.

6 Disney Cruise Line

Disney's ships are known for their younger crowds - some are even dedicated to teens. Some of their boats, like Disney Fantasy, have clubs for teens and tweens. They can have karaoke, dance floors, and other activities. That being said, Disney's ships are better tailored to families with children - but some of their ships may be just what fun-loving solo travelers may be looking for.

5 Fiesta Party Cruise

Not all cruises need to be overnight. If one is going to Miami, consider marking on a nighttime Fiesta Party Cruise . Enjoy seeing Miami at night and dance to one's heart's content to the sound of the DJs while enjoying drinks from the onboard bar. They have multiple trips on Fridays and Saturdays. The cruises last from 9.30 pm to midnight; they also take more weeknight trips during the summer.

4 Celebrity Cruises

Another fantastic cruise line for singles is Celebrity Cruises. Generally, these ships offer a fun atmosphere, plenty of clubs and bars, and opportunities to meet new friends and singles onboard. It's also worth noting that various Celebrity Cruises ships offer single staterooms:

  • Celebrity Edge
  • Celebrity Apex
  • Celebrity Beyond
  • Celebrity Ascent

With these four cruise ships, single passengers can opt for their own little space, away from all the hustle and bustle of the main party decks and other suites. However, if a single person still wants to book a suite, all Celebrity ships have great options with solo queen or king beds. The destinations, including the Bahamas, Mexico, Europe, and even Alaska, are also quite fun.

There are plenty of things to do onboard a Celebrity Cruise and people to encounter! The brand recently unveiled its "Celebrity Beyond" ship , which may be the perfect next-stop for single vacationers.

3 Viking River Cruises

Another cruise line to consider for singles looking to mingle on the open waters is Viking. Generally, Viking River Cruises are smaller ships with fewer people, giving them a more intimate vibe. Many solo travelers recommend using Viking Cruises for vacationing, as the boat feels more like a community.

One thing to remember, however, is that Viking Cruises often run deals for two people, so it might be a fun idea to bring another single friend along for the ride. These boats usually have fewer spots to hang out beside the pool, restaurants, or bars, meaning everyone has to be together. Depending on someone's strategy for meeting new people onboard their cruise ship, this could mean better chances at a connection. It can't hurt to say hello and see where that takes everyone!

2 U River Cruises

Tailored towards millennials, this incredible cruise adopts a hip approach guaranteed to impress singles on an unforgettable 10-day river expedition. The sleek vessels offer exotic cruises around the world with a focus on Europe. And The River Princess is perfectly suited for solo travelers with romantic ambitions.

Its 128-passenger capacity offers a sense of privacy, sophisticated ambiance, and delightful public spaces to mingle with other singles. Passengers can check out the different lounges on the ship with a chance to meet other travelers over a glass of cocktail.

For cruisers who enjoy their own company, there is a library with interesting books to read.

1 Ruby Princess

Boasting unique amenities like movie screenings under the stars and soothing massages at the adult-themed Sanctuary, the Ruby Princess cruise sounds like the perfect cruise for couples. Still, solo travelers can get in on the fun. There's plenty of entertainment onboard, including duty-free shopping stores, a 9-hole putting course, and a fantastic Discovery at SEA program.

The exterior cabins offer dramatic balcony views, and the culinary options are as diverse as they are sumptuous. When darkness sets in, travelers get the opportunity to mingle at the casino or top-deck nightclub as they dance to the wee hours.

  • Singles Cruises – Expectation vs. Reality

Young single man walking along the beach on a shore excursion on singles cruise

When a lot of people think about regular cruises they will imagine an elderly couple who will enjoy strolling around a ship in their retirement. If people think about cruises for singles then they might also have a lot of misconceptions about what goes on and the types of activities that you are going to be doing.

Here we will look at some of the common expectations that can be placed around singles cruises and see whether or not the reality of the situation is going to live up to that. As with all kind of preconceived notions, there is often a little truth in them but also a lot of the time the real truth is going to be very different.

No matter if you are not sure if you want to make a singles cruise or which cruise line is the right one for you , we will help you to get an idea of it. In general a singles cruise is a great way to have a memorable trip but you are going to be able to take things at your own pace and do what you want to do. A singles cruise shouldn’t be anything scary but instead a break that you can be excited about.

  • Singles cruises are just one long party
  • Everyone is looking for that special someone on a singles cruise
  • I won’t find anything in common with other single cruisers
  • I’m too shy and I won’t like a singles cruise
  • I won’t meet other single travelers my age
  • You’re better on a regular cruise vacation
  • I’ll be forced to socialize with other solo travelers
  • A singles-only cruise is my sole option
  • Sharing a room with other solo cruisers will ruin my cruise
  • I’m only just divorced or widowed, singles cruising is not for me
  • My destination options are going to be limited on a singles cruise

Expectation: Singles cruises are just one long party

Reality: There is no doubt that you are going to be able to have a great time if you are looking for it. On a singles cruise there will be a great range of events that you are going to be able to enjoy and there will be plenty of opportunities to party.

That is only if you choose to have that type of singles holiday. For others they might love to go to some events but at other times they would prefer to relax and enjoy other activities that the ship is going to be able to offer.

The truth is that you are going to be able to have the type of vacation that you want and you are going to be able to be in control of your own destiny. There are many different cruise activities on the boat and it isn’t going to be one long party. The cruise will be whatever you make of it and if you want to party and go on surf simulators, you can and if you want to simply relax on a Caribbean cruise, you can.

Expectation: Everyone is looking for that special someone on a singles cruise

Reality: Some people will be put off from going on a singles cruise as you might think that it’s going to be a little bit too intense. It could be that you are not ready to commit to anything special yet and would be uneasy about going on a vacation with a lot of people who are.

Whether you are looking for fun, to flirt or to find someone special, you are going to be able to find people who are in the same situation as you. On a cruise you’ll find that people are the same as they are on land and there will be a wide range of different mentalities.

Some people will also go into a singles cruise thinking that no-one will want commitment and are just there to relax. Again, whatever your mentality you are going on your cruise with, you will find that a lot of people will be thinking like you are.

Expectation: I won’t find anything in common with other single cruisers

Reality: Even if you are going to be on a large cruise ship, if you are going on a singles cruise adventure then you are only going to be with a finite amount of people and you might think that your opportunities to find like-minded people are going to be slim.

In reality, you are going to be on a cruise ship with others who decided to go on the same vacation, you already have a lot in common with everyone you’re going to be with on the ship. You will soon find that you have plenty of other things in common with your fellow passengers too.

That doesn’t mean, of course, that you are definitely going to fall in love and live happily ever after, but it does mean that you are going to be able to have a great time, meet great people and have a very enjoyable time while you are out there on the ship.

Expectation: I’m too shy and I won’t like a singles cruise

Reality:   It’s going to be a natural reaction to be nervous about boarding a ship where you are going to be in social situations with other singles. Everyone else is in the same situation and only the uber-confident are going to be completely comfortable in that situation.

With these types of vacations though, you will quickly get chatting with your fellow passengers and the whole cruise will be set-up to make it as easy as possible to you to meet and greet with other passengers who are going to be as anxious as you are.

If you are ever slightly overawed by the social situations, then you will be able to take your way out of any events and relax instead. Very soon after being onboard the ship, your mind will be put at rest and any shyness is going to be a thing on the past.

Expectation: I won’t meet other single travelers my age

Reality: Singles cruises are going to be available for a vast range of different age groups , not only is there going to be plenty of people around your age range on any given cruise line but there are also age-specific single person cruises that are available for people who want more certainty about their fellow passengers.

On standard single cruises you will find that the majority of passengers are going to be in the 30-50 range but there will also be plenty of people above that with some of them below that too. There will be a lot of people who are going to be around your age, whatever that might be.

This is not something that you are going to have to worry about as you are going to meet plenty of people. If you are 60+ then there may be more limited opportunities to meet fellow passengers but you will still have plenty of people to speak to and have a lot of fun.

Expectation: You’re better on a regular cruise vacation

Reality: You might not think that a singles cruise is going to be the best choice for you and instead would rather go on a regular cruise and enjoy the onboard activities as a solo traveler. If you’re looking to find new people, then this probably isn’t going to be the best idea.

Regular cruises are essentially set-up for couples and this will apply to the dining experience, the activities and the entertainment. Without anything single-specific, you might find that it is a lonely cruise vacation, unless you are looking for seclusion.

The chances of meeting someone on a regular cruise are going to be slim if they have nothing set-up for singles. There is also the factor that you are likely to pay a lot more for the experience too with port charges and also the single supplement.

A single man sitting on a wall in Santorini and looking at the ocean with a cruise ship on it

Expectation: I’ll be forced to socialize with other solo travelers

Reality: A singles cruise is going to be planned with a lot of activities to be able to enjoy yourself and be able to have fun while you are onboard. If you are up for it, then you will never be short of activities and events to attend while you are on the cruise.

None of these activities are going to be mandatory and you will be able to sit out anything that you didn’t like. You have the freedom to do what you want to do including not attending events that you didn’t like or leaving one that wasn’t what you expected it to be.

At these types of events, it is likely that you are going to be encouraged to join in but you are only going to do what you want and you’ll never be forced into anything. These are relaxed environments where you will be able to have fun at your own pace.

Expectation: A singles-only cruise is my sole option

Reality: Singles only cruises are going to be available to put you in a situation with others who are going to be single and wanting the same thing. These cruises are a great way to meet new people but they aren’t going to be your only way.

As we mentioned before, there is the option to go on a regular cruise. This won’t offer you the same amount of opportunities to meet single people but you will still have the wonderful cruise experience and you will get to meet with a large number of people.

There are also other cruises that will have events that are lined up for singles and also the opportunity to dine with other solo travelers. These will allow a solo traveler to have a more regular cruise experience but will have the opportunity to meet fellow single travelers.

Expectation: Sharing a room with other solo cruisers will ruin my cruise

Reality: While there are some great ships that offer solo staterooms such as Princess Cruises, Carnival Cruise Line and Royal Caribbean, on most singles-specific cruises you won’t get the opportunity to have solo cabins and instead will have to share a room with double occupancy.

This is how most tours and cruises work for singles as the tour operator will book out a large section of the ship. The tour companies will pair you up with someone of the same sex though and it’s a great way to meet a new friend.

You’ll actually be in your room for very little of your awake time anyway, which make it very unlikely to be an issue. Instead of ruining your cruise, you are much more likely to have an amazing time with someone who will make your cruise even more special.

Expectation: I’m only just divorced or widowed, singles cruising is not for me

Reality: There are many people who are nervous about being single. Some of the travelers on these types of vacation will have never been in a serious relationship while there are others who might have spent all of their adult life in one.

Again, you will have plenty of fellow passengers and you won’t have any expectations placed on you. If you are simply looking to start to feel confident about dating and are only looking to flirt, then that is going to be absolutely fine.

You may find out that you aim to go on a cruise with one intention and end up doing another. Whatever you want to get out of your cruise, however, you’ll be able to get out of it. The idea is to have fun, whatever your idea of fun might be.

Expectation: My destination options are going to be limited on a singles cruise

Reality: If you are in a couple then you will be able to go on any ship that you like, any destinations and for any period of time. The only way to have that freedom as solo cruisers is to accept that you won’t travel supplement free and be prepared to pay more than anyone else.

The truth is that you are going to be limited. There are only a certain amount of cruises that are set-up specifically for solo travelers and the travel agents usually sell out of these very quickly as it will be a certain quota on a larger ship. This is unfortunate but it is the reality.

The good news, however, is that there is still going to be a huge amount of choice. While not quite having the same freedom, you will still be able to choose many destinations with different durations on different parts of the year.

A hand reaching out towards the sea on a cruise ship

When traveling solo, the world is your oyster

The overriding message of these types of cruises is that you are what you make them. If you are looking to have as much fun as possible then you will be able to do that but if you’re looking to be able to do something more low-tempo then that is fine too. If you just keep a few tips in mind , you can make an incredibly great time out of it.

Often with these types of cruise experiences, the reality is the one that you make for yourself. It is always a good idea to push yourself further and try to let loose, as you will often have a lot of fun in the process but you will never be forced into doing anything.

Generally what you find is that passengers will quickly get into their own rhythm and routine while they are on the ship. You will quickly get comfortable with your surroundings and happy with what you want to get out of your trip away from home. Acclimatization on these cruises doesn’t take long and you will be having a great time very quickly.

Hopefully this article has helped ease any worries that you might have had. Being on a cruise is a wonderful experience and the facilities that you have will ensure that you will never be short and things to do any people to meet. You are able to spend your time on a cruise ship thousands of different ways but it will always be the one that you choose.

What Are Singles Cruises for Seniors?

If you’re a senior who enjoys solo travel and meeting new people, you might want to book a singles cruise. These adventures can be a great way for older adults to enjoy traveling alone at surprisingly affordable prices. Beyond singles cruises, you can also look into general cruise lines that cater to the older set.

Pro Tip: To learn more about my favorite cruises, read my guide to the best cruises for seniors .

The Advantages of Singles Cruises for Seniors

Singles cruises for seniors offer many benefits, such as discounted room prices, wine tasting, and onboard entertainment –– not to mention plenty of opportunities to meet other singles.

Less planning

Since most singles cruises are all-inclusive, you don’t have to worry about last-minute itinerary planning. Most singles cruises provide a day-by-day itinerary with information on daily activities, events, and excursions. For those who want an adventurous time without having to plan, a cruise is a great option. Personally, planning travel makes me anxious, so I love handing the process over to the professionals.

Meeting new people

A singles cruise is designed to cater to people of all ages who are looking to meet new people. If you’re recently divorced or looking for a new relationship, a singles cruise offers an opportunity to meet others in a similar position. These cruises will often have programs like speed dating and dances to help facilitate interactions. Plus, some cruises cater to singles specifically, giving you a discount or “single supplement.”

Courses and events

Singles cruises offer plenty of great activities, such as wine tastings, chef-prepared meals, dancing, pool parties, concerts, and group exercises. All of this helps make it easier to meet new people.

1. Viking Ocean Cruises - Best Overall Value

What we like most:.

  • Wide range of trips
  • Luxurious suites
  • Excellent customer service
  • Risk-free guarantee

Cost: $799+ per person

Viking offers river, ocean, and expedition voyages on all seven continents. I could choose from a variety of cruise destinations, including Scandinavia, Northern Europe, Asia, and Australia. As the world’s leading small-ship cruise line, Viking Ocean Cruises has a fleet of new, state-of-the-art ocean ships, ranging from Viking Star to Viking Saturn. Each ocean ship can carry up to 930 adult guests for an intimate experience and longer overnight stays at ports. With so many adults on a boat, it was easy for me to meet people, especially at meal times.

To book a cruise, I simply visited the Viking website and selected the region, departure date, and duration of my stay. If you’re looking to travel to Scandinavia and Northern Europe for a duration of 12 days, you can choose your sail date and include a promo code to get the best deals. You can also select the number of guests and specify the type of stateroom or suite you would like to book.

Viking Ocean Cruises offers a risk-free guarantee for guests, allowing you to change your cruise date up to 14 days before your departure. Viking will also waive any change fees. Other features of this cruise include spacious veranda staterooms and suites. In addition to a variety of destinations, Viking Ocean Cruises offers special savings on both airfare and cruise costs.

FYI: Cruises aren’t the only way to meet that special someone. Consider trying one of the best dating websites for seniors .

2. Singles Travel International - Made for Singles

  • Made specifically for singles
  • Worldwide destinations
  • Meet-and-greets onboard
  • Online community

Cost: $7,173 average, but ranges from $2,398 to $14,779

With affordable (comparatively speaking) cruises starting at $2,398 per person, Singles Travel International is a tour agency that offers fun cruise destination trips for single seniors over the age of 50. With several destination options ranging from Antarctica, Africa, and South America, seniors can enjoy a fun solo getaway at affordable prices.

With over 28 years in business, Singles Travel International offers great savings on single supplements, free membership, and fun singles cruise meet-and-greets and cocktail hours. Other benefits include an option to find a travel companion and ongoing promotions and discounts.  For example, when I was booking my trip, I could’ve saved thousands by getting a premium membership. This is a good option if you think you want to take cruises more regularly.

Plus, when I signed up for a free membership, I got a $50 discount on my first vacation and free access to its online community for senior singles over the age of 50.

3. Silversea - Luxurious and All-Inclusive

  • Made specifically for seniors
  • Generous all-inclusive options
  • Onboard spas and fitness centers
  • Gourmet dining

Cost: $3,600+ per person

If you’re looking to pamper yourself with a luxury cruise, Silversea provides amazing shore excursions and all-inclusive service covering 900 destinations. Although pricing is on the high side, you can still find plenty of great deals on both airfare and transfers. With Silversea, you can travel and explore new destinations like the Galapagos Islands, Asia, and Alaska –– all while enjoying the views from your luxury oceanview suite.

Booking as a solo traveler, I received a 25 percent single supplement on some voyages, which means a 25 percent discount. Not every cruise line offers this discount, as each room can support two people, typically.

You can choose from all-inclusive cruises or special Silversea Expeditions luxury cruises if you’re looking to travel to remote regions. Some of the benefits of choosing Silversea include complimentary beverages, gourmet dining, shore excursions, and educational lectures on the places you’re visiting. As someone who loves to learn, I found this trip both educational and fun, not to mention delicious.

With Silversea’s all-inclusive offerings, you’ll also enjoy personalized services with butler service for all its suites. Additionally, you’ll have access to a luxurious spa and fitness center, along with a beauty salon and acupuncture services for older adults with arthritis or back pain. It was lovely to have a spa to come home to after a long day exploring!

4. Tauck World Discovery - Great Expeditions

Tauck World Discovery

  • Extensive guided land tours
  • River and ocean cruises
  • Fine dining
  • Panoramic sun decks

Cost: $3,990+ per person

Looking for a solo getaway? Tauck World Discovery offers solo cruise adventures for older adults. Consider booking a solo trip on one of its European River Cruises, with prices starting at $4,390 per person for eight- to 25-day tours. In addition to river and small-ship cruises, Tauck offers guided land tours in destinations like Africa, Canada, Israel and Jordan, and Latin America.

We recommend solo travelers book one of the European River Cruises. For example, I was interested in the longest, Grand European Cruise, a 25-day cruise that hits Amsterdam, Budapest, Vienna, Nuremberg, Regensburg, and Koln. It starts at $13,990. I like this cruise because it will allow me to see nine European countries and stay three nights in Bucharest. Altogether, I am going to see these countries:

  • Netherlands

Other features and benefits of booking a cruise through Tauck is that you’ll enjoy unlimited complimentary beverages, fine dining, and amenities such as a fitness center, spa, and sun deck featuring panoramic views of the river. For the European River Cruises, some of the destinations include the Danube, Douro, and Rhone rivers.

5. Holland America Line - 35-Day Trips

Holland America Line

  • Trips up to 133 days long
  • Helpful smartphone app
  • Onboard casinos
  • Wine tastings

Cost: $499+ per person

With 149 years in business, Holland America Line offers 19 cruise destinations with over 473 ports. If you’re looking for an affordable cruise option, I recommend traveling with Holland America Line. Its Worry-Free Promise program gives guests the chance to change their cruise plans or cancel for any reason up to 30 days before departure if you or a travel party tests positive for COVID-19.

Holland America Line has a fleet of 11 classic ships with destinations and ports in Alaska, Europe, the Panama Canal, Asia, and more. You can choose from seven- to 133-day cruise trips, depending on your destination and travel needs. The longest cruise goes from pole to pole, leaving and departing from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. If you’re a single senior, you’ll love the amenities the cruise ship offers, such as classical cruise ship music, theatrical shows, concerts, and other live entertainment.

Some of the additional features of this cruise line include spacious suites and staterooms, along with unique dining options and a casino. You can also use its free mobile-friendly app to personalize your cruise experience and browse your planned activities for the day. Depending on the cruise ship you choose, you can also participate in wine tastings and cooking demonstrations.

Did You Know: Before you head for the sea, be sure to have your travel insurance in order.

6. Solos Holidays - Social Activities

Solos Holidays

  • Caters to solo travelers
  • Great onboard entertainment
  • Spacious rooms
  • Ample social activities

Cost: $261+ per person

Solos Holidays caters to solo travelers who enjoy going to exciting destinations while meeting new people. Based in London, this company focuses on “singles holidays” and offers a wide selection of destinations across the globe. Some of the cruise destinations include Europe, Australia, Asia, and Africa.

I recommend going on A Taste of the Fjords. I departed from London and spent seven nights in Norway (prices start at $1,420 per person). On the ship, dining and entertainment options were plentiful, and the destinations — Bergen, Flam, and Stavanger —  were beautiful and picturesque. Plus, as a single, it was nice being with a group of eight and a tour leader, as I didn’t feel lonely. This is one of the more affordable cruise options, which is always appreciated.

7. Cunard - Great Onboard Entertainment

Cunard

  • Low starting prices
  • Orchestra performances
  • Onboard libraries and gyms
  • Planetarium shows

Cost: $699+ per person

Cunard provides luxury cruise services across the globe. In fact, in the past, it has had esteemed guests like Elizabeth Taylor and Charlie Chaplain onboard its ships. Depending on the type of vacation and travel experience you’re looking for, you can anticipate spending around $699 per person for an English cruise to up to $2,199 per person for a Caribbean cruise. This is incredibly affordable, as cruises can cost tens of thousands of dollars, which is not in my budget. Here are the prices I saw when I looked in October 2023:

When you book a cruise with Cunard, you’ll enjoy amenities such as afternoon tea, live orchestra performances, and events moderated by prolific speakers. In addition to spacious open decks and Broadway-style shows, seniors will enjoy a packed itinerary of events and activities.

Other features include twice-daily turndown services, concierge services, personal butlers, great dining options, and complimentary room service. Guests can also enjoy group dance classes, planetarium shows, and access to the library and gym facilities.

We recommend choosing one of its seven-day transatlantic cruises onboard its Queen Mary 2. The best part is you’ll have access to live performances from the Royal Shakespeare Company, along with various accommodations to make your stay enjoyable. Cruises start at $849 per person for a Christmas 2023 voyage.

8. Riviera River Cruises - Great for Solo Travelers

Riviera River Cruises

  • Luxurious amenities
  • Niche destinations
  • Flexible trips

Cost: $899+ per month

Riviera River Cruises offers several river cruises in Europe and other destinations around the world. Solo travelers can expect to pay around $899 to $5,479 for longer-duration trips.

If you enjoy solo traveling without sharing a room, then we’d recommend the Rhine, Strasbourg & Heidelberg River Cruise for Solo Travelers. This eight-day cruise starts at $2,449 per person and features eight guided tours, a live classical quartet recital, daily meals, and five-star services. For this particular cruise, you’ll embark in Cologne and visit destinations like the Rhine Gorge and the historic Mainz port. Plus, there are departures aimed at solo travelers specifically, which start at $2,749 per person. Unfortunately, there’s no single supplement, but there are also no additional fees; I paid the listed price, which was a welcome departure from other cruise lines and their many hidden fees.

When you choose Riviera River Cruises, you’ll enjoy amenities and features like daily morning and afternoon tea and coffee, along with full daily meals, complimentary Wi-Fi, and the option to extend your cruise. Other benefits include access to an expert cruise director and concierge services to help make for an enjoyable stay.

Pro Tip: To start planning your next trip, be sure to check out my rundown of the best travel destinations for seniors .

9. Regent Seven Seas Cruises - Discounts Available

Regent Seven Seas Cruises

  • Over 450 ports
  • Great discounts
  • Spacious accommodations
  • Tours up to 21 days in length

Cost: $6,074+ per person

Regent Seven Seas Cruises offers all-inclusive luxury travel around the world, with over 450 ports of call. Each ship can carry up to 750 guests, with destinations in Africa, Arabia, Alaska, Asia, and the Mediterranean. The average price with the single supplement ranges from $6,074 per person from Cape Town to Rio De Janeiro to as high as $12,562 for an 18-day cruise from Sydney to Singapore.

Not every cruise line offers discounted prices for singles, so although these prices are on the higher side, they’re a good option for singles who want a more luxurious experience and have the funds for it.

Some of the benefits of choosing a cruise from Regent Seven Seas Cruises include all-inclusive fares, free open bars, and unlimited beverages, along with free access to specialty restaurants. You’ll also receive free unlimited internet and up to a 50 percent discount for a reduced single supplement for select suite categories.

Bottom Line

If you’re single and want to meet new people, a cruise can be a great way to step out of your comfort zone. Many cruises cater to solo travelers and single seniors, providing ample opportunities to participate in mixers, galas, and other activities aboard a ship. Many cruise lines will often offer great discounts for those who book one-passenger trips, so be on the lookout for those deals throughout the year.

Best Singles Cruises to Hook Up 2024

If you are looking to hook up on a cruise, one of the best decisions you can make from the start is to choose one of the best singles cruises, those that have a higher ratio of single passengers with whom you are most suited to possibly hooking up on a cruise with.

Whether you are looking for a younger partying crowd or perhaps of a more mature age hoping to mingle with a higher number of solo travelers within your age range, there are certain choices that stand out as more suitable than others that are less likely to be full of couples and families.

Even better are those that actively encourage single to mix through meet-ups and a range of day and evening activities.

Best Singles Cruises to Hook Up

Where it makes sense, we have tried to divide the best choices into age groups, but ultimately you choose the age ranges you’d most like to mix with rather than your own age bracket if you prefer and the ships that offer the experience and activities you most prefer.

Best Regular Cruises Lines For Singles to Hook Up

Some of the main cruise lines offer cruises catered towards solo travelers, and although there will be lots of couples and families onboard, there will always be singles onboard.

Some regular cruises will be marketed towards singles, even though not specifically a dedicated chartered singles cruise event that will provide lots of specific events and activities to mix singles in groups.

On a regular cruise, you’ll have to attend events and activities like everyone else and aim to meet singles that way.

Saying that, plenty of singles, both men and women, are potentially looking for cruise ship hookups.  It’s a known fact while away on a cruise vacation or mini-break passenger’s libidos tend to increase.

Below are some of the most popular choices for people looking at hooking up on a regular cruise.

Norwegian Cruise Line Singles Cruises

Norwegian Cruise Line cruises are ideal for younger solo travelers.  They offer a great mix of active daytime activities as well as good nightlife.

When it comes to awards, Norwegian Cruise proudly states on their cruises for singles and solo travelers page that they have been voted the Best Cruise Line for Solo Travelers 6 years in a row by Porthole Magazine.

Before you travel with NCL, you can start getting to know fellow passengers online in “Singles Meet & Mingle”

One of the main advantages of sailing single with Norwegian is that they offer single “Studio” cabins on certain ships in the fleet.

These include:

  •  Norwegian Breakaway
  • Norwegian Epic
  • Norwegian Getaway
  • Norwegian Pride of America

Norwegian Breakaway and Norwegian Getaway are the NCL Breakaway class of ship.

The studio cabins are all located on the same deck, so all the singles and solo travelers will be together and can possibly meet in the nearby Studio Lounge.

Although it’s worth pointing out that just because the studio rooms are singles, doesn’t mean they are the cheapest cabins on the ship.

So if budget is a factor, you might find it cheaper to pick a double occupancy room.

They aren’t the largest ships in the NCL in the fleet, but they are packed with entertainment for their size.

  • Basketball courts
  • Mini Gold courses
  • Volleyball courts

The  Spice H2O  adults-only pool at aft of the ship that becomes a Dance Club in the evenings is a popular feature for singles to mingle.

Norwegian Epic has the only tube-and-bowl waterslide on a cruise ship.

For an unusual and memorable place to meet for a drink it has its own ice bar, but you’ll need to wrap up.

Pride of America is designed to sail year-round in Honolulu, Hawaii.  It’s a smaller vessel with open-air pools on top decks and plenty of restaurants and bar areas to socialize.

NCL Singles Cruises are good for : Under 40’s who enjoy active daytime activities and nightlife in the evenings.

Here we have covered Norwegian singles cruises in more depth.

Carnival Singles Cruises

Carnival Cruises are known as the “fun ships” and are popular with 20-somethings to early 30’s looking to party and have fun both day and night.

The ships are also popular with families and couples, so to find the best Carnival cruise for singles , choose short cruises which are popular with groups of friends and if possible, avoid going during school breaks.

Choose times when the kids should be at school and not away with parents on cruise vacations.

Even though there might be kids onboard, there are plenty of adults-only areas.

Look out for the singles mixers, which are often held on the first night and are a great start to get socializing with other singles.

All rooms on Carnival Cruises are double occupancy which means you’ll have to pay a singles supplement.

Carnival singles cruises are good for: 20’s to 30’s looking for fun activities day and night.

Carnival are our one of our top choices for best cruise lines for singles 20s .

Hooking up on a cruise

Royal Caribbean Singles Cruises

Royal Caribbean cruise ships are well known for offering a wide range of day and nighttime entertainment options.  Literally too many to mention.

In short, they include things from cooking classes to escape rooms to trivia competitions to sporting activities galore and lots more.

Royal Caribbean cruises will often be frequented by families and couples, but there will always be singles onboard.

Not all Royal Caribbean cruise ships cater to solo travelers in terms of offering single cabins.

However, a select few do offer studio staterooms that don’t incur a supplement fee.

Some ships have a range of inside studio staterooms, virtual balcony staterooms, and various sizes of super studio oceanview staterooms with balconies.

They are available on

  • Anthem of the Seas
  • Brilliance of the Seas
  • Harmony of the Seas
  • Quantum of the Seas
  • Ovation of the Seas
  • Spectrum of the Seas

If you prefer the option of a studio room with a balcony , these are offered by

Read on for more information on Royal Caribbean cruises for singles and who they are best suited to.

Celebrity Cruises for Singles

Celebrity cruises might be an option for those that like to have fun but not at higher energy levels, such as the likes of Carnival.

The Celebrity cruise ships offer good value for the quality, and the newer ships in the fleet offer single cabin rooms:

  • Celebrity Apex (24 single staterooms)
  • Celebrity Ascent (32 single staterooms with Infinite Veranda)
  • Celebrity Beyond (32 single staterooms with IInfinite Veranda)
  • Celebrity Edge (16 single staterooms with IInfinite Veranda)
  • Celebrity Silhouette (4 single staterooms)

Celebrity offer their own very in-depth Ultimate guide to cruising solo .

Virgin Voyages Singles Cruises

Virgin Voyages cruises are all for adults only and both ships have single cabins for solo travelers.

The ship’s aim  to offer some slightly different features to the most well-known cruise lines such as an onboard tattoo parlor to immersive entertainment experiences in a bid to make cruising seem more cool compared to the impressions some people have of the other main cruise lines.

Although suitable for a wide range of ages, the Virgin Voyages cruises are popular with 50s and over.

Chartered Singles Cruises

The most obvious hook-up cruises that are best for singles are cruises that are specifically targeted towards singles.

Singles cruises are singles-orientated events that can be booked via travel agencies.

You will be booking with a group of other singles onboard a regular cruise line ship, with other nonsingle guests who booked the regular way, or possibly the whole ship if its a smaller vessel.

The socializing of the group on each particular adult single cruise often begins online via a dedicated Facebook group.

On some occasions, the singles event organizers arrange meet-ups the night before the cruise in local port hotels

When it comes to choosing a cabin, you can have the option of sharing a room with someone of the same gender.

If you opt for your own room, you’ll often have to pay a supplement fee.

The ideal thing about singles cruises is there will be a clear itinerary of events for you to attend and virtually everyone attending will be single.

These cruises are much more geared towards mixing singles together, so as well as meeting up and eating together you’ll also be mixing via all kinds of activities and events, including:

  • Cocktail mixing
  • Dance lessons
  • Karaoke nights
  • Speed meeting
  • Theme parties
  • Trivia events

As well as the option to explore various onshore excursions.

Chartered singles cruises tend to be more popular with slightly older people who are over 30.

Some singles cruises will be marketed towards specific age groups for example, singles in 30s , over 40’s, over 50s, and over 60’s and seniors.

To make sure you are booking a proper singles cruise and not just a regular cruise marketed towards singles, ask to see a list of the events and activities in advance.

It’s worth pointing out that not everybody on a singles cruise is looking to hook up.

Some people just feel more comfortable mixing with singles, while others might be looking for a longer-term relationship partner rather than a short-term hook-up.  Others might be in a relationship already and just away with friends.

SinglesCruises

One of the most well-known examples of a chartered singles cruise is the aptly named “ Singles Cruise ” one of the largest singles cruise agency in the United States.  They have been organizing dedicated singles cruises since 1991 and offer some of the best cruises for singles to hook up.

At any one time they are typically offering 18 to 20+ singles cruises for 3, 5 to 7 nights, and more to locations in the:

  • South America

Singles-packaged events can be booked via travel agents like Singlescruises on a range of well-known main cruise lines, including:

  • Celebrity Cruises
  • Norwegian Cruise Line
  • Royal Caribbean

If you don’t specifically book a singles cruise event and instead book a regular cruise, you won’t be able to participate in those singles activities, which reduces the chances of hooking up with those singles as they will all be mixing together and you wouldnt be able to join in.

Best Cruises for Over 40’s to 50’s to Hook Up

If you are over the age of 40 to 50 you may want less full-on activity and party atmospheres and instead prefer a slightly quieter experience and calmer setting in which to meet fellow singles.

These cruises for solo travelers are more about finding singles with similar interests than full-on fun and games day and night.

Holland America Line for Singles

Holland America cruise line is a popular cruise line often used by a slightly older crowd, including singles.

Through their  Solo Travellers Party Holland America offers numerous opportunities for solo travelers to meet and mingle throughout their cruise.

Each ship hosts solo traveler mixers, cocktail parties, games, and other social events early on in the voyage.

In addition, across all Holland America ships, there are dozens of fun and exciting activities designed to help singles connect, such as

  • Cooking demonstrations
  • Dancing classes
  • Exercise classes
  • Sports challenges
  • Wine tastings

Through their Single Partners Program you can be booked in with a same-sex non-smoking passenger.  Even if they don’t find you a partner, you don’t have to pay any extra.

On newer Holland America ships, there are single cabins available.

Other Cruises for Singles Over 40 to 50

Other cruise lines that may be of interest to older solo travelers looking to mix with and meet other singles include:

  • Cunard (Luxury British Cruise line)
  • Fred. Olsen single cruise information (UK based cruise line)
  • P&O Cruises for solo travelers (British cruise line)

You can check how each cruise line above caters to singles on their solo travels by visiting the links above.

Cunard Cruises for Singles

Cunard is a luxury British cruise line which is popular with a more mature group of passengers, typically over 50’s and seniors over 60.

There are solo cabins available on all ships in the Cunard fleet and plenty of activities to choose from.

Find more information here about the Cunard Solo Travellers Experience .

Fred. Olsen Cruises for Singles

Fred.Olsen is a UK cruise line that attracts more mature adults, including singles.

Activities include arts,  cooking, and dancing classes.

Fred.Olsen even providing gentlemen hosts as ladies dance partners.

There are single cabins available on all ships with no extra single supplement charges.

For more Fred. Olsen single cruise information .

P&O Cruises for Singles

P&O cruises are a popular British cruise line.   They have some large ships full of activities both day and night.

For singles Arcadia and Aurora are both adult-only ships, so might be better options than the more family-orientated ships, which will have kids onboard, especially during the school holidays.

See P&O Cruises for solo travelers for more info.

DJ concert on music cruise

Music Cruises

Similar music tastes can be a great start to getting to know other singles on board.

There is a wide range of music-themed cruises available every year featuring world-famous artists, whether they be 20-40-year-old rock bands or new upcoming acts.   There are choices for every taste.

Examples include:

  • Christian music
  • Country Music
  • Flower Power / Hippy
  • Heavy Metal

As well as music by the decade, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, and 2000’s.

Themed Cruises for Singles

Themed cruises are another option for mixing with people with like-minded themed interests.  For some, this can make it much easier to chat with people with a common interest.

There are all kinds of non-musical-themed cruises to suit all tastes.

Some theme cruise examples include:

  • Golden Girls

Couple meeting on a singles cruise

Party Cruises for Singles

The best party cruises for singles tend to be the short three to five-night cruises on affordable mainstream lines like

  • Royal Caribbean.

These cruises attract a younger crowd and offer a lively party scene that many enjoy.

They are all ideal for the 18 to 30 age range.

Cruising can be expensive, especially if traveling solo and having to pay room surcharges.

If you’re on a budget, you can save some money by cruising on older, smaller ships within the mainstream fleets. These ships usually have lower cruise fares but still offer a great party atmosphere.

Another tip is to find a single friend to go with and share a room.  Just let them know it’s your intention to possibly hook up while you are both away so they know what to expect and won’t miss you around when you do.

Lifestyle Cruises for Singles

Elsewhere we have covered “ swinging or lifestyle cruises ” and nude cruises .  These are more suited to people who already live the lifestyle.

Most of the people who go on these will be couples.   Although single men and women are welcome, it’s the women (sometimes referred to as unicorns because of their rarity) who will find it easier to mix with other willing couples).

Although it might be worth mentioning, one common signal people into the lifestyle is the hidden meaning of upside down pineapple on their cruise door or perhaps on their clothing or person.   Even if they aren’t aware of its secret meaning, its can be a flirty conversation starter.

Lifestyle Cruises Singles Policy’s

  • Temptation cruises allows both single men and women on board.
  • Bliss Cruises only permits singles onboard if they are staying with a couple.

For more information, see the best lifestyle cruises .

<<Image of singles guys….or single guy chatting up woman)

Best Cruises for Single Guys

The best cruises for single men are ones with lots of fellow single women on to socialize and mingle with.

This could be via onboard parties and nightclubs or via lots of various onboard activities, which offer numerous opportunities to mix with and get to know other single guests.

Chartered singles cruises are a particularly good option if you want to be sure the majority of the guests are specifically looking to mix wit a singles crowd.

Choose the ships most suited to your age range and activities interests.

As regards cost it helps if you choose a cruise ship with single cabins so you can avoid any additional surcharge costs.   Although on some instances, there are cheaper double-occupancy staterooms available

Hooking up with Cruise Staff

Hooking up with cruise staff is best avoided.  While cruise staff may be easy to chat with they are not there for social pleasure and are being paid to be friendly to passengers.

If the staff member was caught having a relationship with a passenger, they could potentially lose their job.

That’s not to say hooking up with staff is unheard of.  It does happen but is best avoided.  If you choose the right cruise, you should have plenty of other options anyway.

Will I get seasick on a cruise? Here's what travelers should know.

are there single only cruises

Mackenzie Pollock had a feeling she’d get seasick on her first cruise .

The 29-year-old Oregon resident tends to get carsick, so when she felt nausea on a Caribbean sailing with Princess Cruises in February, it wasn’t a surprise. And she came prepared.

Pollock talked to her doctor before the trip, who prescribed Scopolamine patches. She also stocked up on Bonine tablets after seeing videos about it online. “I’m a librarian,” she said. “I do copious amounts of research on everything.”

There were “days here and there” during the 20-day trip when she felt sick, like when they went in and out of Florida and sailed through a thunderstorm. But between the two medications and other coping strategies like sitting on her suite’s balcony, she was able to manage it and enjoy her time with family.

Getting seasick can put a damper on a cruise, but there are ways to keep it from ruining your trip.

Why do people get seasick?

Seasickness is a form of motion sickness. That happens when there is a difference between the information you get from your visual system, your inner ear and receptors in your muscles, according to Dr. Kathleen Cullen, a professor of biomedical engineering at Johns Hopkins University. In a cruise ship cabin, for instance, the surroundings might appear stable even while the vessel is moving.

“And this mismatch between what your visual system is experiencing and what your balance organs are telling your brain about how you're moving is sort of an alert signal to your brain that something is wrong,” said Cullen. “So, it's a sensory conflict that actually is the big problem.”

Motion sickness symptoms can include nausea, dizziness and vomiting.

Some travelers are more vulnerable than others, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Those include kids between 2 and 12, and people who have a history of migraines, vertigo and vestibular disorders. “Pregnancy, menstruation, and taking hormone replacement therapy or oral contraceptives have also been identified as potential risk factors,” the health agency said on its website .

On the other hand, people older than 50 are less likely to develop it, and toddlers and infants are usually immune.

What is the worst cruise for seasickness?

While modern cruise ships have stabilizers that reduce their roll, some itineraries are more prone to choppy waters.

“If you're doing a transatlantic over to England , the North Atlantic can be pretty gnarly, especially in the winter,” said Rusty Pickett, a travel adviser and owner of Shellback Cruises. The Drake Passage, a feature of many Antarctica expedition sailings , is also notoriously treacherous.

Travelers can seek out calmer seas, though. ( Click here for USA TODAY’s guide to the best times to cruise by region.)

Where is the best cabin to avoid seasickness?

The bow of the ship tends to bounce up and down, said Pickett. “Lower in the ship, middle (and just aft of middle) minimizes the movement,” he added.

Booking a stateroom with a window so you can keep an eye on the horizon or getting fresh air – like Pollock did on her balcony – could also be helpful, Cullen said.

Short vs. long cruises: Which one is right for you? Here's how they compare.

How do I stop being seasick on a cruise?

Travelers can bring medications and other remedies with them. Prescription Scopolamine patches can help get passengers “over the hump,” Cullen said. There are also other over-the-counter medications like Dramamine.

Those can make users drowsy. Travelers should talk to their doctor about their options ahead of their cruise.

Ginger candies or ginger ale – made with real ginger – and acupressure wristbands may also be helpful.

After you board, Cullen recommends watching the horizon on the ship’s outer decks. “That's a pretty good way to keep yourself, initially, from getting motion sick if you're prone to it,” she said.

The CDC offers other suggestions , including lying down, closing your eyes and sleeping; limiting caffeinated and alcoholic drinks; eating small portions of food often; and not smoking.

What other options do passengers have?

Cruise ships generally have onboard medical staff that can treat a range of ailments, and Pickett said the vessels keep a supply of seasickness medication on hand.

During an Antarctica expedition I took with Aurora Expeditions in December, crew members also placed barf bags around the ship that passengers could grab if they felt sick while outside their rooms.

Pollock said feeling seasick didn’t put her off cruising, and she and her family plan to take another. “It was frustrating when it happened, but it didn't overshadow the trip at all.”

Calling all eligible bachelors?

A source tells us Irina Shayk is looking to find a new man after her fling with NFL hunk Tom Brady fizzled.

“She is shopping, but her dating pool is a tiny group of people,” says our source. “She needs famous, good looking and money. How many of those are there? Five, ten?”

Oh, the problems of the rich and gorgeous!

Irina Shayk

We hear the Russian model is “looking in Europe and in the USA.”

Our source suggested the newly single Tom Cruise as one possibility, after the “Top Gun” star recently split with Russian socialite Elsina Khayrova.

We hear Shayk, 38, who was recently on the cover of Vogue Italia, will attend the Met Gala , the so-called “Oscars of Fashion” thrown by Vogue and the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute, on the first Monday in May.

Shayk and her ex, Brady, 46, were first spotted together in August after Page Six exclusively reported that sparks flew for the supermodel when she met him at a starry wedding in Italy in June.

They were last seen together in mid-January at hotspot Fouquet’s in NYC.

But Page Six reported in September that the retired quarterback was playing the field , and that Shayk was also dating other people.

By late October, we were told that things had fizzled between them.

However, he and Shayk spent time together again in December during Art Basel Miami Beach. We also spotted Brady hanging out at a billionaire’s bash surrounded by women that same week.

Shayk has had a long on-again-off again relationship with her ex, Bradley Cooper, and the pair shares a daughter, 4.

Cooper is currently dating Gigi Hadid.
