We then stop at one of the scenic lookout points along Dalton Pass followed by late afternoon arrival in Banaue . . En route, visit the Ifugao Museum and Surrender Site of General Yamashita . General Tomoyuki Yamashita of the Japanese Imperial Army in the Philippines surrendered September 2, 1945 in the Kiangan Central School where now the Kiangan shrine is placed. He was then taken to Baguio City where his formal surrender was staged, tried for war crimes, and hanged in Los Banos in 1946. .

From Banaue Batad is approximately 16 kms away, the first 14 kms of which will be traveled by our privately chartered local jeepney. The rest of the distance is on foot using a mountain trail. The trip to Barangay Batad in Banaue, to witness the amphitheater shaped terraces located at 3600 ft., takes only a 30 minutes hike (*). navigate_next We stop at the panoramic Banaue viewpoint at 4800 Ft. that provides a perfect experience of the enormity & extent of the terraces followed by a visit to the Banaue Museum . Banaue Museum features decades-old books by anthropologist Otley Beyer and Igorot artefacts collected by his son William. The museum is on two floors featuring weaponry, jewellery, traditional dress and photographs of Banaue 100 years ago. navigate_next Time permitting we can stop at the market and souvenir shop before dinner. . (*) Provided you have a good level of physical fitness (expect unpaved and narrow mountain trails with steep irregular terrain, usually under a hot sun) and should you wish to trek for three further demanding hours we can offer you: . a) the Tappiya waterfall after Batad. With a phenomenal 70 metre fall in rainy season and a naturally formed pool at its bottom suitable for a cooling swim ( dress conservatively), Tappiya waterfall is an unique location in the area. . b) Banga-an village instead of Batad. Banga-an village showcases a typical Ifugao community. Wet weather causes damage so the steps need constant renovation. You are rewarded with spectacular views. .
• filter_3 Day 3: Banaue arrow_forward Sagada arrow_forward Bontoc arrow_forward Banaue navigate_next After breakfast in the hotel, we will start the day with a 3 to 4 hours ride (one way) to picturesque Sagada with its ancient burial caves and mummified coffins at Sugong & Echo Valley . Under guidance of a local English speaking guide you will glimpse Lumiang Burial Cave which houses more than 100 coffins are stacked in the entrance. The oldest around 500 years old. Many of them have images of lizards carved on them which are symbols of fertility and long life. navigate_next We then enter the impressive Sumaguing Cave , known for it's rock formations and impressive chambers. navigate_next Visit Bontoc's tribal museum on the way back, with artifacts and unique pictures from the mountain tribes. navigate_next Stop at the Viewpoint to admire the Terraces. Return to Banaue for dinner and overnight. .

Our Banaue Tours include already local guide hire (with basic English language skills) in Banaue and Sagada. Should you wish a German, Dutch , Spanish, Russian or French speaking guide (on top of the local guides) throughout your whole tour, this can be arranged by us upon your request in advance and costs approximately Php 4,000.00 additional per day. Food and accommodation for this guide comes still on top of this. Please indicate this as a request in your Booking Form.

Go backpacking for a week in North Luzon with this Philippine tour package that will take you to Sagada, Baguio, and La Union. This 7-day Philippines backpacking tour comes with budget-level accommodations in Manila, Sagada, Baguio, and La Union, bus transfers (Manila - Sagada - Baguio - La Union - Manila), daily breakfast, and tours in Manila, Sagada, and Baguio. You may also book add-on surfing lessons in La Union.

You’ll start your backpacking adventure in Manila. Check in at your budget accommodations and enjoy two complimentary tours. You’ll enjoy a food tour in Binondo and sample some of the most loved delicacies in the district, and then afterward, learn a bit about the history of the Philippines when you go on a walking tour of the walled city of Intramuros.

You’ll then make your way to Sagada. Along the way, you’ll pass Banaue and visit the Banaue Rice Terraces. You have two days here, and while in Sagada, you’ll stay in budget accommodations and tour some of the municipality’s most popular tourist attractions, including the Hanging Coffins, Marlboro Hills, and Bomod-Ok Falls.

Your next destination is Baguio, which you will reach via bus. Apart from the cool weather, you can enjoy visits to the Strawberry Farm, Atok Highest Point, and a pasalubong center, so you can shop for souvenirs and treats to bring home. Finally, you’ll head to La Union, where you are free to explore the sights at your own convenience. If you want to learn how to surf, La Union is a great spot to try, and you may book add-on surfing lessons so that an expert can teach you.

On the last day of your Philippine holiday package, check out of your La Union accommodations and go back to Manila via bus.

Daily itinerary

Day 1 - Day 1: Arrival in Manila + Check-in + Tours

When you arrive in Manila, head to your budget accommodations and check in. Prepare for the two tours that you will enjoy today. 

The first tour you will go on is a food tour of Binondo, the oldest Chinatown in the world. On this tour, you will be able to sample Filipino-Chinese delicacies such as siopao, lumpia, tikoy, and mooncakes.

You will also go back in time as you enjoy a walking tour of Intramuros, a walled city that is significant in the history of the country. Here, you will visit historical sites, including Fort Santiago, Casa Manila, and San Agustin Church.

Get some rest and prepare for your trip to Sagada, as you will be picked up in the evening.

Day 2 - Day 2: Arrival in Sagada + Tour

Before your arrival in Sagada, you will pass by Banaue. You can enjoy a quick breakfast before heading to the Banaue Rice Terraces. Afterward, you’ll head to Sagada’s town proper so you can check in to your lodging. 

Afterward, you will explore the town, visiting sites like Sagada Pottery, St. Mary’s Church, the Old Cemetery, the Hanging Coffins, and the Abandoned Bus. You’ll end the day with stops at popular eateries like Sagada Brew, Gala Cafe, Yogurt House, Lemon Pie House, and Orange Farm.

Day 3 - Day 3: Sagada Day Tour

You need to wake up early as your day will start at 4:30 AM so you can catch the sea of clouds at Marlboro Hills at sunrise. After catching this breathtaking sunrise, you will explore either Sumaguing Cave or Lumiang Cave before enjoying lunch at the town proper. The last stop on this Sagada tour is Bomod-Ok Falls.

Day 4 - Day 4: Arrival in Baguio + Check-in 

Check out of your lodging in Sagada and head to Baguio. Before you check in at your accommodations in Baguio, you will stop at some points of interest along the way, including the Atok Highest Point, the highest spot in the Philippine highway system, the Strawberry Farm, and a pasalubong center. 

After checking in at your Baguio hostel, you are free to explore Baguio on your own.

Day 5 - Day 5: Arrival in La Union + Check-in

Enjoy the complimentary breakfast before you check out of your Baguio hostel. You will then travel to La Union by bus. Upon arrival at La Union, you will check in at your budget accommodations. 

After getting settled in, you can either rest or see some of the sights in La Union by exploring on your own.

Day 6 - Day 6: Free Time + Add-on Surfing Lessons 

Take advantage of the complimentary breakfast and fuel yourself up before you begin your last day on this Philippines backpacking itinerary. You are free to spend your day however you wish, but if you want to make the most out of your stay in La Union, you may book add-on surfing lessons to this Philippine tour package.

La Union is known as one of the top surfing destinations in Luzon, and those who want to learn how to ride the waves can do so with beginner lessons.

Day 7 - Day 7: Checkout + Departure

Wake up early so you can enjoy breakfast and explore more of La Union on your own before checking out of your budget accommodations. After checking out, you will make your way back to Manila via bus, marking the end of your Philippine vacation package.
