Through it all, we’re happy to call New Orleans’ home.
As natives, we have always been part of the city and its culture-bearing communities at a young age. Our first-hand perspective goes beyond New Orleans’ written history, it’s in our blood. From our diverse roots to our vibrant nightlife, you’ll love the down-home hospitality.
So come take a walk with us! Join us as we explore the Garden District and our cemeteries. Let your imagination run wild with stories of ghosts, vampires, and voodoo with our French Quarter experts. Or, journey with us beyond the city limits to soak up the beauty of the swamp s with a boat tour. Book with confidence. Hands down the best tour I’ve taken. Derek was a tremendous host/driver/tour guide. Gave great tips on food, restaurants, and day/night life. Would definitely recommend this tour company/driver. Very enriched history in Louisiana! Thank you Derek for your hospitality!
Excellent tour of the laura and oak alley plantations . Bus driver was very friendly and informative, the young woman at the laura plantation was a history teacher and was the best tour guide we had during our entire trip to new orleans. would definitely recommend to anyone visiting the area.
Michelle is absolutely amazing bus driver. She was very personable and provided knowledge about the different plantations! Oak Valley was an absolutely breathtaking plantation . I highly recommend Cajun Encounters Tour Company!
The best tour ever! Pick up was on time! Very convenient! They offer multiple pick up locations! We did Laura plantation + Oak Alley plantation! We had the absolute best driver Michelle! She was extremely knowledgeable & friendly! She made the drive feel short & sweet! The best driver ever!
Michelle picked us up promptly and treated us to NOLA history and places of interest during the ride. The Laura Plantation and Oak Alley Plantation are beautiful and full of history. The guides at both were wonderful story tellers. Highly recommend.
Derek picked us up on time and had so many helpful tips to give during our stay in NOLA. He was very knowledgeable about things to do and places to eat around the area. This was definitely our favorite part of our trip to Nola. Our guide, Erik, was really knowledgeable about swamps and gators and made this a truly memorable experience!
It was an amazing experience! The boat ride itself was a thrill, seeing all the different animals in their natural habitat was impressive! The swamp was beautiful and spooky at the same time with the overhanging trees and Spanish beards. We saw alligators, raccoons, birds, swamp cows.
From beginning to end, a delightful day. The Oak Alley tour was very informative. Our swamp tour was truly outstanding. Captain Ernie is personable, knowledgeable, and an all-around terrific captain. I cannot recommend this tour and this company enough!
We had a great time. Our guide was great, answered our many questions, and seemed genuinely interested in giving us the best tour possible. The airboat was pretty comfy and good fun.
Great tour very knowledgeable guide. Friendly and very prompt on pick up time. Guide was very funny and had a lot of personal knowledge about New Orleans.
Had a great time. Seen a bunch of alligators and learned a lot about an area. Ian was a great guide and was very knowledgeable about everything in the area.
We loved the whole thing! The bus driver was so nice, the plantation was lovely. But the highlight of our day was the airboat!! Ian was our guide and he was so knowledgeable about everything in the area!! Showed us so many things in nature from the cypress trees to the gators and all in between!! Highly recommend!!
My boyfriend and I really enjoyed the swamp experience. Our boat tour guide Ernie was full of information and a good sense of humor. I definitely recommend the tour to anyone thinking about it.
Captain Ernie was incredibly knowledgeable and an awesome host for the large airboat tour. We love learning new things and did!
We were picked up at Jackson Square and had a friendly air conditioned ride to the lovely Oak Alley Plantation and then a Airboat Swamp tour. The four of us enjoyed the staff and all the beautiful views and loved our Airboat Swamp tour. Our guide was very knowledgeable and Airboat tour was lots of fun. Highly recommend!

We had an outstanding tour with Katrina! So knowledgeable and patient, and clearly passionate about her adopted city. We were regurgitating her facts and pointing out architectural styles to each other later that evening. She also had great advice for what to see and do in New Orleans after our tour. A GREAT way to start our morning in the Big Easy!

Katrina did an awesome job on our 2hr garden architectural tour. She has a very upbeat personality, making it light yet she is very knowledgeable & will answer any question. It was the perfect mix of information and sightseeing.
Phenomenal tour and guide! Kat is highly informative, kind, and easy to talk to. It is clear that she loves New Orleans and its history! Not only does she have a degree in Louisiana studies, but she continues to read and learn about the area even today. She is also involved in conservation efforts in the city. I had the pleasure of taking her Garden District walking tour. This tour combines her endless knowledge of Louisiana history with the architecture of the Garden District. This was a fabulous way to experience the Garden District. I felt that I had a much better understanding of how the residents experienced life inside their home and why architects made the decisions they made for each house. I learned so much that I found I was referencing this knowledge throughout my visit to New Orleans. Whereas other tours may be overcrowded, theatrical and/or 'gimmicky', Kat focuses on providing a fun, educational experience that is based on factual, recorded history. Additionally, but taking a tour with her, you will be supporting her local, small business (a plus!). I will definitely attend another of her tours when I return to NOLA. Her tours are a MUST DO while in New Orleans!
Katrina was a great tour guide! Thoroughly enjoyed the Garden District tour; would definitely recommend this tour! We were originally planning on touring the French Quarter, but had a last minute change; the Garden District was excellent. We learned about the cemetery and saw lots of beautiful architecture. Really appreciate the evolution of architectural style.
We really enjoyed our Garden District architecture tour with Katrina! The homes she showed us were really interesting and she did a great job of mixing in history with the architecture. The trip into the cemetery was also really interesting and helped to dispel some common New Orleans myths. Our kids (age 11) were engaged and enjoyed the tour. The group on our tour day was really small, which made the experience even better. I highly recommend this tour!
I've always enjoyed exploring and finding hidden elements in an area with people in the know. We booked the French Quarter and the Garden District walking tours to get a better picture of how the area developed. Being that we were staying in the French Quarter, that tour really helped me understand how to get around as an added bonus. I really can't pick my fave of the two, and each guide was knowledge and detailed with our small group.
My hubby and I took the Garden District/Lafayette Cemetery tour with Katrina the first day (10/18). She is such a fun and friendly presence and makes the architectural details interesting, well defined and colorful. She illustrated the differences in the home styles and gave personality to the structures with historical reference as well as tales about the inhabitants and their connection to the houses. She also pointed out homes that were used in film, celebrity owned homes, the special features of these homes and a tidbit or two of juicy celebrity lore. The second day, we went on the St. Louis Cemetery/French Quarter walk with Grey. It is a treat to listen to the architectural history of New Orleans with Grey. She illustrated the shifts from French rule, to Spanish, back to French and finally to American ownership through the different types of buildings, iron work, building materials (such as the move from wooden buildings (french) to soft brick, then to a harder fired brick brought about by the previous devastating fires and the new Spanish fire codes.) Grey also pointed out the elements that define types of homes and the rational behind them. A very enlightening, interesting and enjoyable tour. We would highly recommend both guides and tours!
Katrina's passion and knowledge of the city made this one of the best tours I've every taken. We were able to join both her Garden District and French Quarter tours and loved the small intimate discussions we were able to have. Beyond the tours she recommend restaurants, books, and other must see's that have all added to our experience!
Katrina was an amazing presence during the tour: knowledgable, fun, multi-dimensional, informative, but not too serious. You can tell she does what she loves and it pours through in every sentence. She's constantly learning new things about the area and includes her insight as a resident of the city. The Garden District Tour flew by because she kept it so interested and she was a total pro about it from start to finish. When I called weeks before our trip with a question, she got back to me within the hour. She really goes the extra mile.... and speaking of mile, as a fitness lover, I enjoyed that I got my steps in during our walk. Bonus!!!
What a fantastic tour! We love architectural tours and Katrina's did not disappoint. She has a wealth of knowledge about the Garden District and the tour was not only informative, but fun! I only wish we had time to book her other tours as well but know who to call when we return. Thanks for a wonderful morning!

Orleans to Tours
From: $1,810 USD
Imagine Yourself…
- Pedaling along the river to the beautiful flower-filled city of Beaugency
- Stopping in a wine cave to sample the sweet, sparkling wines of the region
- Discovering historical sites of Joan of Arc’s later life
- Breezing past beautiful chateaux in a classically French landscape
Daily Itinerary
Day 1: arrival in orléans.
You’ll spend the day exploring beautiful Orléans on the River Loire with its picturesque, well-preserved neighborhoods. Orléans is the home of Joan of Arc, the patron saint of France, and is known for the awe inspiring Sainte Croix Cathedral , comparable to the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. Although Orléans was severely bombed in World War II (first by the Germans and then by the Allies) it still preserves some of its old buildings. The city is also famous for its university, one of the most prestigious in France.
Day 2: Orléans - Beaugency - 16 miles (26 km)
This morning you’ll pedal along the Loire to the flower-filled city of Beaugency with its imposing 11th century dungeon looming high above the streets. Beaugency has conserved the charm of a small medieval city and you can visit the Notre Dame Abbey, the Hôtel-Dieu (Hospices of Beaugency), and the 14th century bridge. Beaugency has a violent military history: it was the site of the famous Battle of Beaugency when it was freed by Joan of Arc.
Day 3: Beaugency - Blois – 28 miles (45 km)
Today you’ll visit the impressive Chateau de Chambord , the largest of the Loire Valley chateaux. With 440 rooms it’s one of the most extravagant commissions of its age. Then you’ll bike on to Blois. Its famous chateau features four distinct architectural styles and houses the Musées des Beaux Arts and Archeology . St Louis Cathedral and numerous other churches and gardens decorate the city and are worth a visit.
Day 4: Blois – Amboise – 25 miles (40 km)
You will cycle through the forests north of Blois and past scenic vineyards to the impressive Château de Chaumont , strategically located high above the River Loire and offering a majestic view over the river. Continuing to the charming town of Amboise , you might visit the Château d’ Amboise with its breathtaking views on the Loire, or Château Clos Lucé , the former home of Leonardo da Vinci now converted to a museum.
Day 5: Amboise - Tours – 18 or 33 miles (30 or 53 km)
Today you’ll cycle to fascinating Tours , passing by the vineyards and caves of Montlouis , renowned for its sweet white and sparkling wines . Later you will pass by Chateau de la Bourdaisière, believed to be the birthplace of Gabrielle d’Estrées, the beautiful mistress and favorite of King Henri IV. Continuing to the center of Tours, you’ll discover this lively, flower-filled, university city on the River Loire with its fascinating medieval quarter, the famous “ Place Plumereau ,” and lovely half – timbered houses.
Possibility to join the famous Château de Chenonceau , straddling the Cher river, and which was the scene of a famous rivalry in French history: that of Diane de Poitiers and Catherine de Medici. Then cycle the brand new bike paths of the Cher à Vélo before reaching Montlouis then Tours.
Day 6: Tour Ends
Your tour will end today with departure after breakfast – or you can extend your vacation by biking on to Angers (see our Tours to Angers itinerary ). The combined tour would be 10 days and 9 nights long, with just one day in Tours.

Survivors of the world's worst industrial gas leak spoke in New Orleans Friday night.
This event was to bring awareness and justice to areas affected by harmful chemical plants, such as Cancer Alley.
This gas leak took place in Bhopal, India, in 1984 at the Union Carbide Plant, owned by Dow Chemical, which also owns many of the chemical plants located within Cancer Alley.
The gas leak explosion in Bhopal has led to 20,000 deaths since, and over 500,000 still facing health complications.
Their meeting Friday was with local environmental justice leaders bringing context to a problem affecting people here at home, and across the globe.
"Unless we change that narrative that no more poisons, when you know it's a poison, should not be allowed to be manufactured, we cannot change this matter," Rachna Dinghra said.
Speakers also say people in cancer alley have done well by blocking the building of some new plants. However, they say the problem will continue as corporations continue to disregard the general public's health.

BOXING CLEVER: 2024 BMW R 1300 GS Trophy X
Make no mistake, BMW’s new R 1300 GS is a significant departure from its predecessor, the R 1250 GS. It is an exercise in nitpicking to highlight an area where the 1300 isn’t objectively better than the 1250. The 1300 and the 1250 might share the GS moniker and have the same suspension and engine configuration, but that’s about as far as the similarities go.
Charley Boorman Interview
Probably the world’s most recognisable adventure-riding celebrity, Charley Boorman is a popular character. That’s no doubt due in no small part to his friendly and approachable nature. Billy Ward sat down with the man in Africa and had a chat.

Bayou Adventure: Incoming Freshmen get a tour of Louisiana's coast
August 23, 2024
On Thursday, August 22, a group of incoming LSU students set off on an adventure to Louisiana’s coast.
The reason? Bayou Adventure, a trip created by CC&E for LSU’s Welcome Week. The trip was designed specifically to educate incoming freshman about some of the challenges and marvels of the Louisiana coastline.
“The Bayou Adventure trip offers students a unique opportunity to learn all about Louisiana’s coastal riches,” said Clint Willson, dean of CC&E. “The sites we visited today showcase not only the significance of these areas to the state and nation, but the important work that is being done to sustain and preserve them.”
Willson led the trip, along with Department of Environmental Sciences Associate Professor Brian Snyder, who is the director of the Coastal Environmental Science program.
After a brief breakfast and orientation at LSU, the student embarked first for the Port of New Orleans, where they heard from port officials about the role the port plays in the local and national economy, and also the significance of the Mississippi River to the economy.
After leaving port, the Bayou Adventurers journeyed about fifteen miles upstream to the Davis Pond Diversion. This freshwater diversion is an important example of how Mississippi River water can be used address coastal land loss, as the waters carry vital sediments into Barataria Bay, pushing back saltwater intrusion and rebuilding wetlands. Two officials from the Army Corps of Engineers discussed the project and students got to witness the land-building first-hand as they took an airboat excursion out into the diversion.
The third stop on the route was the Bonnet Carre Spillway, a world-famous flood control structure that allows floodwaters from the Mississippi River into Lake Ponchartarain. Students heard about the structure’s significance from officials with US Army Corps of Engineers.
