Setting the vehicle speed

1. Press the cruise control main switch to activate the cruise control. Cruise control indicator will be displayed. Press the switch again to deactivate the cruise control.

2. Accelerate or decelerate the vehicle to the desired speed, and press the “SET” switch to set the speed. Cruise control “SET” indicator will be displayed. The vehicle speed at the moment the switch is released becomes the set speed.

Adjusting the set speed

To change the set speed, operate the “+ RES” or “SET” switch until the desired set speed is obtained.

  • Increases the speed
  • Decreases the speed Fine adjustment: Press the switch. Large adjustment: Press and hold the switch to change the speed, and release when the desired speed is reached.

The set speed will be increased or decreased as follows:

  • When the set speed is shown in “MPH” Fine adjustment: By approximately 1 mph (1.6 km/h) each time the switch is operated. Large adjustment: The set speed can be increased or decreased continually until the switch is released.
  • When the set speed is shown in “km/h” Fine adjustment: By approximately 1 km/h (0.6 mph) each time the switch is operated Large adjustment: The set speed can be increased or decreased continually until the switch is released.

Canceling and resuming the constant speed control

  • Pressing the cancel switch cancels the constant speed control. The speed setting is also canceled when the brakes are applied.
  • Pressing the “+ RES” switch resumes the constant speed control. Resuming is available when the vehicle speed is more than approximately 25 mph (40 km/h).

Cruise control can be set when

  • The shift lever is in D or range 4 or higher of S has been selected.
  • Range 4 or higher of D has been selected by using the paddle shift switch. (vehicles with paddle shift switches)
  • Vehicle speed is above approximately 25 mph (40 km/h).

Accelerating after setting the vehicle speed

  • The vehicle can be accelerated normally. After acceleration, the set speed resumes.
  • Even without canceling the cruise control, the set speed can be increased by first accelerating the vehicle to the desired speed and then pressing the “SET” switch to set the new speed.

Automatic cruise control cancelation

Cruise control will stop maintaining the vehicle speed in any of the following situations.

  • Actual vehicle speed falls more than approximately 10 mph (16 km/h) below the preset vehicle speed.
  • At this time, the memorized set speed is not retained.
  • Actual vehicle speed is below approximately 25 mph (40 km/h).
  • VSC is activated.
  • TRAC is activated for a period of time.
  • When the VSC or TRAC system is turned off.

If the warning message for the cruise control is shown on the multiinformation display

Press the cruise control main switch once to deactivate the system, and then press the button again to reactivate the system.

If the cruise control speed cannot be set or if the cruise control cancels immediately after being activated, there may be a malfunction in the cruise control system. Have the vehicle inspected by your Toyota dealer.

To avoid operating the cruise control by mistake

Switch the cruise control off using the cruise control main switch when not in use.

Situations unsuitable for cruise control

Do not use cruise control in any of the following situations. Doing so may result in loss of control and could cause an accident resulting in death or serious injury.

  • In heavy traffic
  • On roads with sharp bends
  • On winding roads
  • On slippery roads, such as those covered with rain, ice or snow
  • On steep hills Vehicle speed may exceed the set speed when driving down a steep hill.

2007 Camry cruise control switch replacement

My girlfriend and I were riding in her 2007 Camry SE about a week ago on the highway. She pushed the button on the cruise control switch to turn it on, and the button popped out of the end of the stalk (it did not completely come out, but popped out about an inch). She pushed it back in, but it won't turn the cruise on now. What all is involved in replacing this switch? I was assuming it was as simple as removing the bottom rear cover on the steering wheel and swapping it out, but I wanted to check beforehand.  

This happened on our 2007 Camry as well. When the button falls out, a small copper piece will likely fall out. This piece has to be reinserted into the button in the proper orientation, then the button needs to be carefully inserted with a tiny flat blade screwdriver pressing down the copper contacts so they slide in rather than being bent backwards. I have no idea why that button pops out like that, but there are numerous reports of this problem occurring. Looks like a design flaw.

CarComplaints.com Notes: An increasing number of Toyotas are experiencing excessive oil consumption and the 2007 Camry seems to be leading the charge .

Owners are reporting that their engines are deprived of oil halfway through their maintenance schedules and in some cases the damage is so bad that entirely new engines need to be installed, paid out of pocket. The issue may be a result of defective piston rings .

Toyota has issued a TSB for this problem, but maintains their stance that vehicles equipped with a 2AZ-FE engine are burning through a “normal” amount of oil.

Toyota's perennially best-selling family sedan gets a complete makeover for 2007. Among the highlights are a roomier interior, additional luxury-oriented features, an available 268-hp V6 coupled to a six-speed automatic transmission, and a gasoline-electric hybrid model that earns EPA fuel economy estimates of 43 mpg city/37 mpg highway.

While it still won't win the title of "world's sexiest family sedan," the new 2007 Toyota Camry's combination of comfort, refinement and reliability will very likely allow it to keep the title belt for "America's best-selling sedan." Anyone shopping in this segment will want to give the Camry consideration.

Vehicle overview.

In our experience, buyers of family sedans are usually looking for a car that provides a roomy and comfortable interior, a refined driving experience and a reputation for reliability. While most modern sedans meet these qualifications, only two have excelled over the past decade: the Honda Accord and the Toyota Camry. For much of that period, the Toyota Camry has held the sales advantage, and it's been America's best-selling sedan for eight of the past nine years. Now, for 2007, Toyota has fully redesigned the Camry, and we have no doubt that it will continue to appeal to a large section of buyers.

As it has done with each generation before, Toyota has increased the Camry's size and power for 2007. A 2.2-inch-longer wheelbase and 1.2-inch-wider front and rear tracks provide benefits in terms of interior space and rear-seat legroom. Underneath the new car, one will find the familiar MacPherson struts up front and a dual-link independent rear suspension. Spring rates and suspension geometries were completely revised, however, to give the car a sharper feel without compromising ride quality. Wheel size has gone from 15 to 16 inches on base models, while the sportier SE trim gets its own set of 17-inch aluminum wheels.

For the outside, the car receives a full styling refresh. Toyota describes the new Camry's look as "athletic and elegant" and "styled in a way that is certain to elicit a positive emotional response." But we're not so sure. To our eyes the front end is a bit heavy looking with its bulbous nose, while the somewhat drooping head- and taillights are simply odd.

This year also ushers in changes for the Camry's available powertrains. For the power-inclined, there's a new 268-horsepower V6 that gives the Camry sport-sedan performance. As far as features, even the base-level 2007 Camry comes nicely equipped, with power windows, cruise and a CD player all standard. And all trims include a standard tire-pressure monitoring system. Moving all the way up the Camry line will get you Lexus-like luxury with elegant cabin furnishings and available high-end luxury features, such as a navigation system and Bluetooth wireless capability.

All of these evolutionary changes have made the 2007 Toyota Camry a very appealing choice. Of course, it's not the family sedan for everybody. The Hyundai Sonata is thousands of dollars cheaper and comes with a better warranty. The Volkswagen Passat is more prestigious to own. The Chrysler 300C has a thumping V8. The redesigned 2007 Nissan Altima, when it arrives, will likely boast superior handling performance. And there's still the very impressive Accord. But for the mainstream part of the family-sedan segment, the new Camry has set the bar even higher in regards to features, performance, reputation and price. Yes, you get what you pay for, and in this case that turns out to be a new benchmark in the highly competitive family sedan market.

Performance & mpg

Standard on all trim levels is a 2.4-liter inline four (158 horsepower and 161 pound-feet of torque) paired to either a five-speed manual or five-speed automatic transmission. A potent 3.5-liter V6 (268 hp and 248 lb-ft) mated to a new six-speed automatic gearbox (that offers manual-shift capability) is available on the LE, SE and XLE trims. With the V6, the Camry can reach 60 mph in just 6.5 seconds.

Every Camry comes with seven airbags (dual-stage front airbags, front-seat side and full-length side curtain airbags and a driver knee airbag), a tire-pressure monitor and antilock brakes with BrakeAssist (BA) and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD). Stability control (which includes traction control) is optional across the line.

A quiet, soft ride still characterizes the Camry's on-road demeanor, though this year's revisions give the handling dynamics a slightly sportier feel. Still, the overriding impression is one of refinement and a somewhat isolated feel from the road compared to more athletic competitors like the Mazda 6 and Nissan Altima. Toyota knows that the majority of buyers in this market segment are more interested in comfortable, stress-free travel than tearing through corners, and the refined and very capable 2007 Camry should once again prove to be a hit with them.

In addition to more space for passengers, the 2007 Toyota Camry offers other features that increase cabin comfort. XLEs with cloth upholstery have a unique treatment using silkworm cocoon extract that coats the fabric, making it very soft to the touch. Additionally, XLE rear-seat passengers can recline their seatbacks. All Camrys have a trip computer, larger instruments than before and a dual-tiered dash that makes for a more spacious feel. Plenty of cubbies and compartments serve to hold CDs, cell phones and garage cards. The Camry's trunk holds 15 cubic feet of cargo.

2007 Toyota Camry models

The 2007 Toyota Camry comes as a midsize four-door sedan in five trim levels. The base CE counts 16-inch wheels, air conditioning, power windows and mirrors, cruise control, a tilt and telescoping steering wheel, and a six-speaker audio system with a CD player and auxiliary input jack as standard equipment. The Camry LE adds keyless entry and an eight-way power driver seat. The SE includes a sport-tuned suspension, 17-inch alloy wheels, and special interior and exterior styling details. The luxurious XLE pampers its occupants with a 440-watt JBL sound system that incorporates Bluetooth technology, a moonroof, wood-tone accents, reclining rear seats, an automatic dual-zone climate control system with a high-tech air filter and, on the V6 model, leather seating. 1 Cruise Control problem

Excessive oil consumption. Takes about 1-2 quarts every 1000 miles, otherwise I run out of oil and it starts to smell like oil when I drive or when car is running. I was headed on a trip today when my car started to drive a little funny and it started to smell like oil again. I was able to pull off to the side of the road and check it and I was low on oil. I put more oil in the car and headed back on my trip. I had the cruise control set and all of a sudden the cruise kicked off and jolted the car while I was driving 70mph. After that it was hard to get my car to shift above the 3rd rpm. Car still has less than 150,000 on it. This problem has been going on for a few thousand miles. It has no oil leaks. There are no lights that go off, has had regular and scheduled maintenance with records.

2 Cruise Control problem

While driving to work my car started doing 50 mph without my foot on any pedal. I had to ride the brake to keep it within the speed limit of 20 in the school zone and then 35 on the road. When I arrived at a red light the car tried to move forward even with the brake pressed all the way down. I put the car in neutral and the engine started revving. I turned the car off and back on and still had the same revving and pulling. I pulled off the road and put it in park and the car kept revving. I turned it off and kept it off for several minutes, when I turned it back on I still had the same issue. I carefully drove the car back home (about a mile total trip) riding the brake the whole time to keep the car from getting away from me. No mat was near the pedals, I tried moving to a lower gear, I made sure all cruise controls were off, nothing helped. It was the most terrifying experience I have ever had while driving!.

3 Cruise Control problem

Letter regarding jerking problems with their 2007 Toyota Camry le ; seeking help to resolve issue with Toyota the consumer stated ever since the vehicle was purchased, it would jerk in stop and go traffic when she attempted to accelerate. The consumer stated the vehicle would accelerate for no reason. The dealer told the consumer the pedals were sensitive and she needed to get used to them. The dealer then blamed the problem on the cruise control, which the consumer stated wasn't even on. The consumer stated she then received a recall letter in the mail regarding the accelerator pedal and that a bar would be installed as well as fixing the carpet. The consumer stated after the recall was performed, she continued to experience problems with the vehicle accelerating and jerking.

4 Cruise Control problem

I own a 2007 Toyota Camry le. I reported this problem to the dealer in redding, CA about the cruise control system within a month of ownership; however, they said it is normal operation. I doubt it very much, how the cruise control resumes back to the set speed almost instantly by raising the rpm over 5000, which will make you feel the car is going out of control. I have been driving cars for over 30 years and own many makes and models but none of them behaved in this way. This was my first Toyota car, I strongly believe the car maker should look in to the cruise control systems that might give them clues about accidental acceleration problems that I am hearing regularly.

5 Cruise Control problem

The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Camry. The contact was driving approximately between 30-35 mph on normal conditions. The "cruise control control" warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. There were several attempts of braking and the warning indicator remained illuminated until the engine was turned off. The failure occurred intermittent. In addition, there was an increase of acceleration unexpectedly. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer. There was a recall under NHTSA campaign id number 10v017000 (vehicle speed control:accelerator pedal). The vehicle was repaired for the recall defect. The technician was unable to locate the electrical malfunction with the warning indicator. The VIN was unavailable. The failure mileage was 69,000.

6 Cruise Control problem

I own a 2007 Toyota Camry. On many separate occasions, I have experienced not a sudden acceleration but a subtle increase in speed, while on level road. The impression I had was that the cruise control was operating when it was not even turned on. I was able to maintain control of the car. I have taken the car to the dealer and explained what it was doing but was told I must have had the cruise control activated. They did try to recreate the problem but could not. The vehicle has since had the "accelerator pedal fixed" as a result of Toyota's most recent recall. However, the car continues to randomly "accelerate". I do not believe the pedal was ever the problem and in light of the current number of reported incidents, I have lost all confidence in driving this vehicle. I feel it is important to report these incidents because I believe this is the same as the more critical reports and that the cause of the problem is still unknown and the nature of my incident is probably happening to alot of drivers but they either don't realize it or think it is not important enough to report.

7 Cruise Control problem

The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Camry. While driving at approximately 35 mph the vehicle seemed as if the cruise control activated. The vehicle suddenly accelerated up to 95 mph. In order to stop the vehicle the contact pulled the accelerator pedal up with her foot. The contact took the vehicle to the dealership where the computer was reprogrammed to override the accelerator if the brake pedal was depressed. The current mileage was approximately 45,140 and the failure mileage was approximately 44,000.

8 Cruise Control problem

2007 Toyota Camry, from time we purchased car it would accelerate to high rate of speed when trying to speed up, ie; getting on freeway, passing and most especially when cruise control was in use, (same as steve wosnieck, apple computer is reporting). I addressed this with dealer almost every time I had car serviced, they said it was due to computer. Said computer takes 30 sec. Or so to catch up and that caused the "lurch" or increased speed. On recent trip, car went as fast as 85mph (from 60) when I finally applied brake and turned off cruise control. There was no floor mat in car, no problem with pedal. Also had problem with cruise control, would not hold speed on down-hill drive. Dealer said it was not designed to work on down hill. This happened on even minor down grades, would just take off! on 1/27/10 I went to dealer and purchased what they said was a "safe" no issue 2010 Camry. They said this one had the safe "pedal". Now I am hearing issues that it is with the computer! I feel skunked! I had my car almost paid off and now am back in debt for another 5 years! not happy. This problem was on-going from the time we bought the 2007, last incident was date below on way home from vegas. I do feel lucky and thankful that so far I am alive to report this!.

9 Cruise Control problem

I am an engineer so not complaining in reaction to the news but I have a 2007 Camry le (4 cylinder) which I bought brand new and in the past 3 years, it has 'accelerated' considerably several times whenever I switch off my cruise control. I can count atleast 6 instances when this has happened and braking fixed the acceleration so luckily no accidents but only caused my increased heart rate. My personal experience really makes me feel that there is more going on with Toyota than just the brake pedal. That's why I have not even taken it in yet to get the 'fix'. This should be investigated thoroughly and I am sure there are deeper issues than we currently know of.

10 Cruise Control problem

The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Camry. When she exited the highway at approximately 15 mph the vehicle suddenly accelerated she lost control and went into a ditch. She experienced the sudden acceleration a total of three times. The two other failure incidents occurred when the vehicle cruise control was set at 60 and 70 mph the vehicle over accelerated the set speeds. The failure mileage was 15,000 and the current mileage was 16,896. She will contact the dealer.

11 Cruise Control problem

The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Camry luxury edition. While driving at speeds of less than 55 mph, the vehicle accelerator pedal would not return to the idle throttle position. The contact tapped on the brakes since he thought that the cruise control was engaged. The vehicle was slowing down but continued to move forward. The contact was able to shut the vehicle off while it was still in motion. The dealer stated that the floor mat was probably stuck under the accelerator pedal. The failure occurred a second time without the floor mats in the vehicle. No repairs were made to the vehicle. The dealer could not duplicate failure. The failure and current mileages were under 80,000.

12 Cruise Control problem

I was driving to san antonio from houston and using my cruise control on my 2007 Toyota Camry le 4 cyl car made japan. I had the cruise control set at 70 mph and I had to slow down for a vehicle ahead of me so I pressed my brakes which stopped the cruise control. The car in front of me then turned and I was able to resume cruise control so I pressed resume and without also pressing the gas pedal and/or brake pedal. The car surged ahead gaining large amounts of speed and easily going over the speed limit that I had set at 70 mph. The speedometer hit 78 and keep going at that speed about 30 secs and then started to slow down to 70 mph. I have that happen almost everytime I use the cruise control in my car and use it according to the recommend standards set by Toyota.

13 Cruise Control problem

While driving on I-5 cruise control on my 2007 Toyota Camry se would not disengage. I put on brakes repeatedly and had to manually shut off the cruise control. When I asked rodland Toyota in everett they stated it "should" disengage, only checked to ensure I had brake lights. I have not since then attempted to use cruise control.

14 Cruise Control problem

The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that while driving at speeds of 50 mph the cruise control activated and within a few minutes, the vehicle accelerated. The contact immediately placed the vehicle into neutral gear and was able to stop the vehicle. The contact spoke with the dealer and was advised that there were no recalls on the vehicle. 15 Cruise Control problem

No crash and no injuries. You are investigating Toyota gas pedal problems. I own a 2007 Camry hy-brid and have noticed that on 3 separate occasions I was on the highway driving about 60 mph and had the car in 'cruise control' and the accelerator pedal went all the way to the floor and the car really accelerated very fast to increase by 10 - 15 mph. I do not know if that has any bearing on your investigation but thought I should pass it on to you.

16 Cruise Control problem

Several times while resuming cruise control my acceleration has gone faster than expected, beyond the limit that I set. I had to slam on my brake to stop the acceleration, which is very frightening, and of course unsafe. I was able to avoid the traffic on the highway because I always allow a safe distance behind other vehicles. This has occurred at least 4 times in the time I have owned the 2007 Camry.

17 Cruise Control problem

There has been 2 occasions that my car has accelerated rapidly while driving with the cruise control on. The speed was set at 73mph. My foot was not touching the foot pedal nor was the floor mat. In both instances I was making a curve in the road when it happened. On one of the two occasions I received a speeding ticket totaling around 300. 00. The car had accelerated to 95 before I regained control. Another problem I have noticed with the vehicle is when traveling at slow rates of speed (in 3rd gear automatic), the car will sporadically have power surges and jolt forward. I have had the vehicle since Jan. 09 and the problems described above have only happened 2-3 times each. I have not contacted any repair centers regarding the issues.

18 Cruise Control problem

Back in July 2009, coming to a stop on bond road and waterman in elk grove, CA my 2007 Toyota Camry xler accelerated and hit SUV in front of me. No injury was caused, major damage to front end of my automobile no damage to SUV. Took car to folsom Toyota, reported incident, they said they would look at car, at the time was not advise of problems Toyota was having with accelerator. Was told nothing wrong with car, then vsc alarm was coming on, then that battery in two (2) year old car needed to be replaced. I told them that it was the key battery, they insisted that it was the car battery. Which I questioned because it said key battery. Then replaced the battery, the company who sold me the battery when car was only two yeas old. Then when we brought old battery back to them as a core. The guy questioned that there was nothing wrong with the battery. The green eye was still green and he thought there was nothing wrong with battery. The car dies twice leaving myself and daughter stranded at my daughters dance class where I have to call my father a retired mechanic to come and jump my battery. Then I went to elk grove Toyota and asked them to check battery in key they replaced the battery in key and the problem was solved. In September 2009 I received letter requiring that I take floor mats out of car. But still the car would accelerate especially when putting cruise control. So now worried to drive car. The floor mat were never the cause of acceleration.

19 Cruise Control problem

Vehicle retains cruise control speed in memory even after applying brakes and stopping. Goes back to cruise control speed instead of responding to gas pedal and rams into the vehicle in front. Vehicle revs up and down for no reason when in cruise control even when traveling on flat terrain/freeway. Complaints to local Toyota dealer did not help until the accident, did an upgrade to the software which has helped but little, problem still remains.

20 Cruise Control problem

The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Camry le. While driving with the cruise control set at 80 mph the vehicle suddenly accelerated to 86 mph. She was able to turn the cruise control off and gain control of the vehicle. The dealer stated they could not make any repairs since they were not able to duplicate the failure. She should not be forced to use the automatic resume on the cruise control. She also stated that the computer headboard was previously reset. She has experienced the failure twice. The failure mileage was 11,366. The current mileage was 12,271. Updated 03/24/10 updated 07/14/jb.

21 Cruise Control problem

When on a long distance trip I used the cruise control--it was set to around 75 mph. I applied the brakes, but when I went to resume my cruise control speed, the car's speed surged past the 75 mph that I had set and started going above 80 mph. I realized it and applied the brake and then just set the speed again. This happened at least separate 3 times. I no longer use the resume function of the cruise control and I have not had other problems since (but I have not used the cruise control much either).

22 Cruise Control problem

On sept. 1, 2008, I was driving north through PA. On I-79. I was using the cruise control on my 2007 Toyota Camry solara for the first time. I pulled into a rest area. As I was about to pull into a parking space, I stopped for some pedestrians to pass by. When I took my foot off the brake to pull into the parking space, my car suddenly accelerated at a very high speed as if I had put my foot on the gas pedal all the way to the floor. I assure you, I barely touched the gas pedal. As a consequence, the car went over a high curb, went through a picnic area and down a hill into some weeds before I could bring it to a stop. I really had to push on the brake with all my strength. I had no control over the car or its speed. As a result, I hit a person walking in the picnic area and she sustained very serious injuries. I have received a careless driving citation and may be facing a major lawsuit. I feel I had no control over the vehicle and that it is unsafe to drive, at least with the cruise control. I believe the cruise control did not disengage when I pulled off the highway and put my foot on the break. I have not taken the car to a Toyota dealership for fear they would just cover up the problem.

23 Cruise Control problem

The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Camry. While pulling into a rest area with the cruise control set at 70 mph, the contact could not disengage the cruise control. He crashed into a pole. The vehicle will be taken to the dealer for repair. The manufacturer was notified. The minnesota state police filed report number 0810176. The current mileage was 12,000 and failure mileage was 11,000. Updated 06/16/08.

24 Cruise Control problem

While driving 2007 Camry on level roadway with cruise control on at 70 mph, transmission will suddenly downshift several gears causing car to accelerate aggressively and rocket forward. During one such instance my car lurched forward and almost drove under a tractor trailer that was traveling in front of us. This is an intermittent phenomenon. Was reported to Toyota on 10/01/07. An appointment was set up for local dealer to check out problem. After Toyota had the car for full day, they responded that they could not duplicate the problem. Upon picking up the car I found that they had not driven the car off the dealer lot. Upon questioning the service manager, how they expected to duplicate the problem without actually driving the car, he began screaming and was extremely rude. Finally, he agreed to an additional appointment with a 'tech person' the following week. The problem did not occur while the tech person was riding in the car. There was no further follow up testing by Toyota. I will no longer use the cruise control while driving this Camry. Note: this car had it's 'software' updated previously due to sluggish acceleration in traffic.

25 Cruise Control problem

Cruise control and hesitation. I recorded one day the number of times the cruise control jumped down 2 gears on the interstate in florida. 50 times in 1 hour. The tac displays a rpm of 2,300 then it jumps to 3,400 then down shifts again to 5,400 rpm. Yes, it is designed to do this. Toyota said. My previous Camry did not do this. My complaint is, that if Toyota disclosed this 'design flaw' to any potential customer, they would not sell any 2007 4 cyl. Camrys. The hesitation is very unsafe, yet they say it is operating as 'designed' . A 1-3 second delay is not acceptable. I am sure that the gas tank was not designed to explode on a rear end collisions on a Ford pinto, but it did. The Ford explorer was not designed to rollover, but it did. The chev. Vegas aluminum engine was not designed to fail, but it did. The 'corvair' unsafe at any speed was not designed to be unsafe, but it was. Yes, all I hear is that it is 'designed' to do this. I am requesting that due to Toyota neglecting to 'disclose' these known issues that they buy this unsafe car back. I am currently in arbitration. We shall see. If this fails, I will seek the lemon law in my state.

26 Cruise Control problem

My wife and I purchased a 2007 Camry le, 4-cylinder, 5-speed automatic with 7,700 miles from down east Toyota in brewer, maine. Ever since our test drive we've experienced lack of acceleration (hesitation) from a stop or after slowing down to turn or proceed, shifting problems (constant up and down shifting at certain speeds; car not sure which gear to be in and feels like the car is surging) and unable to use the cruise control due accelerating too quickly due to downshifting and then overshooting the set speed. Some of these symptoms are sporadic; you never know if the car is going to move or not when stepping down hard and quickly on the gas pedal. Sometimes it "red-lines" before accelerating, other times there is barely any response at all. So far have only driven on bare dry/wet roads. We are not looking forward to driving it on snow and ice. We were told by det after the test drive and Toyota corporation that this is normal performance for this vehicle, even though there are tsbs (technical service bulletins) concerning these problems. Eg036-07 is the latest ecm update, which was done on 08/14/07 without any noticeable improvements. We would never have purchased this vehicle if we had only researched the car beforehand on the internet. This car is unsafe to drive and Toyota and det will be held responsible if an accident occurs due to the aforementioned problems.

27 Cruise Control problem

I purchased a 2007 Camry 4 cylinder xle Aug. 2006. The immediate issue I had was its lack of acceleration. I was told by the dealership (competition Toyota of new york) was to change the way I was driving the car to force better acceleration. Feb. 10, 2007 I had my oil changed at the competition Toyota, asked about the acceleration issue and was told "nothing yet" from Toyota. Aug. 6, 2007, I was told new software arrived to correct the issue. The verbiage on the work sheet states ?please review tsbeg036-07 for application performed calibration on ecm shift enhancement completed?. There was an improvement in acceleration from stop signs and traffic lights. Aug . 28, 2007 I took my first trip with the upgraded software. The acceleration getting on the highway was better but not great. I used the cruise control feature for the first time since the upgrade. I drove 200 miles, exited the highway, got gas (shut off the car). I did not reactivate the cruise control. I pulled into a parking garage, found a parking space, began to pull in when the car unexpectedly accelerated, hit the wall and I couldn't stop the tires from spinning even by depressing the brake. I threw the car into park and shut of the engine. There was substantial damage to the front of the car but no apparent damage to the engine. Aug. 29, 2007,I decided to drive it home. Upon starting the car, the cruise control symbol displayed and went off only after I depressed the cruise control lever a couple times. The car was repaired sept. 17, 2007, competition Toyota did a complimentary safety vehicle inspection on sept. 21, 2007 and found the car to be safe to operate. I know what happened and like a disappearing toothache I don?t want this issue dismissed by the people at Toyota as a non-event. I still believe this is not a coincidence having the acceleration software updated then me having the issues I have stated above. I don?t want to see a re-occurrence of this incident to me or anyone else.

28 Cruise Control problem

I purchased my Camry le 4 cylinder on 1/31/07, and I had no problems initially. However, when I used the cruise control, the car downshifts to third gear on a slight incline for no apparent reason. Three attempts have been made to diagnose/correct the problem with my car's cruise control; however, the service department nor Toyota technical services does not know how to correct the problem. Information was sent the data to Toyota for further analysis. When the car is in cruise control and going down the highway at 60 mph and entering an incline, the car will shift between fourth (2600 rpm surges to 2800 rpm) and third gear (3800 rpm to 4000 rpm). At 70 mph and the car was in cruise control and going down the interstate highway on flat surface, entering an incline, the car skipped fourth and down shifted to third gear. The tack registered 5000 rpm and then settled back to 4500 rpm. It appears that the cruise control is overcorrection when it should do nothing. The car is more than capable of going up small inclines without ever down shifting out of overdrive into third gear. The car performs well out of cruise control. This problem in typical to all 2007 and 2008 4 cylinder Camry's.

29 Cruise Control problem

On lthree different occasions the throttle stuck on my 2007 v6 Camry xle. First time with the cruise control on and I could not turn the cc off . Car accelerated to 80mph before it settled down . . Second time I was merging into traffic and when traffic came to a stop my car kept accelerating . . . I avoided rearending the car ahead of me by standing on the brakes while the engine was just racing. . Third time . . After stopping at a railroad crossing . . . When traffic resumed the car took off again, this time through a school zone . . . . That was the final straw for me . . Toyota says their is no problem with this car or any of the other 2007 I feel the car is unsafe for me and my family along with others on the road. . I asked the selling dealer to trade my 2007 for another 2007 since I like the car, but not this problem . . . He did not seem interested and said that Toyota would not help me with the depriation of my car. I went to a dealer closer to home and traded my 2007 for a new 2007 . . Same model same features . . I complaint is that I owned an unsafe vehicle and I do not believe that I should have to take full depreciation on a car that was unsafe to drive . . . Toyota denies a problem with the car, but I'm the one at risk driving it . . . The second dealer did what he could for me . But I am paying $ 8,000 difference for a car I should have had to start with . . . . I do not expect to drive a car for one year and 14,000 miles for free, but I also would not have traded if the car was safe . . I am looking for some fair financial rellief from Toyota . . . . Or at least make people aware of a serious safety issue with some of their models . . See also 10207133.

30 Cruise Control problem

Cruise control acceleration. My Toyota cruise control speed will increase up to 3-4 mph when going up a incline, this requires braking or running into the car in front of you. I have use many cruise controls but this is the first one that has every gone over the actual speed setting. On a flat road the cruise control perform the way it should.

31 Cruise Control problem

The gas pedal on my 2007 Camry got stuck also. It was brand new. It only had 1200 miles on it. I was getting on the freeway and the car just took off. I was pressing on the brakes with both feet about 1/4 mile and nothing. I thought I am going to die in this car. The car was towed to the nearest Toyota dealer. They said I probably engaged the cruise control. I said I was just getting on the freeway. I told my local Toyota I was afraid to even the see the car. My local called the dealer that had my car and got them to do a complete check. They then said it was the mats that got stuck. Toyota then sent out recalls for the all weather mats. I took my car to my local dealer with the recall and they told me sorry, it's only for the all weather mats. Not the cloth mats. I said but it happened to me with these mats. I came home and wrote to Toyota headquarter and nothing. The dealer that did the inspections said they drove and drove that car. When I reluctantly picked up my car from them, I looked at the miles, it was 1230 miles. When the car was towed there, it had 1210. Go figure. Here I am with this death trap. I tell my family I am going to die in this car. And that I believe today.

32 Cruise Control problem

Near miss: 2007 Camry se when using cruise control regardless if adequate distance between cars is established, when going up an incline the car gains 5 mph. This causes it to rapidly overtake the car in front. If brakes are not applied a collision would ensue. This was reported to the manufacturer, the car checked with no error codes. *updated 12/12/07 Toyota claimed the vehicle downshifted to gain more power. Updated 12/12/07.

33 Cruise Control problem

The cruise control on our 2007 Toyota Camry xle (4 cyl) is an extreme safety hazard to the point we cannot use it. When traveling on a highway with the cruise control set it will downshift and surge 5-10 miles faster than setting when encountering the slightest hill. When we brought this to our servicing dealers attention on two occasions they report it as operating correctly but tell us they and Toyota are aware of the problem but there is no fix for it. The problem is repeated in similar complaints all over this site and needs to be addressed. This problem is serious enough for the NHTSA to demand a recall from Toyota to fix it. If they cannot address this issue in a reasonable time frame they should be prevented from selling another Camry until they can solve the problem. I am urging the NHTSA to take this issue seriously and respond accordingly.

34 Cruise Control problem

The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Camry. While traveling on the highway at speeds of 70 to 75 mph, he attempted to pass another vehicle when the accelerator pedal became stuck in the open throttle position. The vehicle proceeded to accelerate to speeds of 115 mph. The cruise control light began to illuminate and he then put the gear selector into neutral. He used tremendous force to depress the brakes until smoke began emitting from the pedal. The vehicle coasted to a halt and was taken to a repair shop. The service dealer advised spraying the brake pedal with wd40 lubricating oil. On a later date, the vehicle exhibited the exact same failure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where unknown repairs were performed. He as also advised the accelerator pedal was defective. The approximate failure mileage was 1,500 and the current was 17,000. 35 Cruise Control problem

I slowed down the car at the end of an interstate exit ramp to check for traffic and thinking I had enough time to cross the intersection I gave it gas and got very little acceleration. When I pushed the gas to the floor I still got no more acceleration. I wrote the Toyota service department to make an appointment to bring it in and received the response that they were aware of the problem, but at this time there was no solution so do not bring the car in. If there had been more traffic in that situation it would have caused a wreck. Acceleration is also very erratic when using cruise control, going up a slight hill will cause the motor to race. Also, it requires quite a lot of force to stop the car.

While many competitor brands continue to slowly let their big five-occupant family sedans fade into the sunset, Toyota has decided to keep its venerable Camry around for at least one more generation. Behold the 2025 Camry, a major redo of the automaker’s traditional family sedan that now sports a hybrid powertrain, a fresh new look, a totally redone interior and the latest version of the company’s multimedia system in a bid to keep some heat on its rivals. Is it enough to keep Camry customers coming back for more? Well, not everyone wants an SUV, and the new model is likely to keep sedan shoppers interested for at least one more go-around.

New Styling

The 2025 Camry’s design is a purely American effort, according to Toyota, with styling handled by the company’s studios in California and Michigan, with the aim of giving the sedan an even more athletic look. Four trim levels will be available and visually differentiated into more luxurious and aggressively sporty appearances.

All variants feature a new “hammerhead” front end, slim LED headlights and taillights, and a more chiseled body. The sporty SE and XSE trims have race-inspired functional aerodynamic air ducts, front canard wings, a rear diffuser under the bumper, a trunk lid spoiler and dual-tip exhaust. Sixteen-inch wheels come with the LE, but 18-inch wheels are standard on the SE and XLE, with 19-inchers on the XSE. Two new exterior color options will be available, as well: Heavy Metal and Ocean Gem. The XSE trim furthers its sporty look by offering a two-tone paint job, putting Heavy Metal, Ocean Gem, Supersonic Red or Wind Chill Pearl under a Midnight Black Metallic roof.

Hybrid Only

Gone is the gas-only version of the Camry, including the V-6 option. Instead, you’ve got one hybrid powertrain for all trims as the 2025 Camry debuts the fifth generation of the Toyota Hybrid System. It combines a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with two electric motors for a total of 225 horsepower on front-wheel-drive variants and 232 hp with all-wheel drive. The new system also reportedly has been tuned more toward electric operation at lower speeds to reduce engine revs for a smoother, quieter experience while still providing good acceleration and torque feel. The new AWD version uses a special motor-generator unit to provide power to the rear wheels when needed. This is the first time the Camry Hybrid will be available with AWD, and it will be optional on all four trim levels.

All Camrys will have a retuned suspension system for improved driving dynamics, as well, with the sport trims featuring a sportier tune to the underbits. The braking system has also reportedly been tweaked for better performance.

All-New Interior

Inside, the Camry gets a thorough redo for the 2025 model year, with what Toyota calls an “open-style cockpit” look. The base LE trim gets an ocean wave-inspired interior with patterns embossed in the fabric upholstery, which is available in Boulder gray or Black. The XLE gets leather-and-microfiber seats in a quilted pattern in Light Gray or Black, with the pattern mimicked on the doors and dashboard. If you’d rather buy a sporty model, the SE features imitation leather seats in Boulder or Black with white accents, while the top XSE upgrades to perforated leather in Black with blue trim or Cockpit Red. Sport variants also get aluminum pedals, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and curiously, paddle shifters for the continuously variable automatic transmission.

The seats themselves are larger and longer than before for enhanced comfort, according to Toyota, and can be heated and ventilated on the XLE and XSE trims. Those trim levels will be quieter inside, too, thanks to standard acoustic laminated side glass.

There are more amenities to be had in the 2025 Camry, as well, with standard push-button start and dual-zone climate control with rear air vents on all variants. Memory for the driver’s seat and side mirrors is available on the XLE, as are automatic rain-sensing wipers. An optional tilt-and-slide panoramic moonroof is also available on the XLE and XSE.

Tech Upgrades

All 2025 Camrys will have a digital instrument cluster, with a standard 7-inch display coming on the LE and SE and a larger 12.3-inch fully digital cluster on the XLE and top XSE. The two top trims can also be had with a 10-inch head-up display. The multimedia system gets upgraded to the latest Toyota Audio Multimedia software, which features an 8-inch touchscreen or optional 12.3-inch display. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, as is a wireless charging pad. The upgraded audio offering is a nine-speaker JBL audio system.

As before, safety systems are paramount in the family-focused Camry, and all trim levels will now come with standard blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, which was previously only available as part of an option package on lower trims or standard on higher trims. The Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 suite of safety systems is also standard; it includes functions like forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, full-speed dynamic adaptive cruise control, lane departure steering assist, road sign assist and automatic high beams. For those wanting to maximize their electronic safety systems, the XLE and XSE trims can be had with a Premium Plus Package that brings traffic jam assist, front cross-traffic alert, lane change assist, a panoramic view monitor, and front-and-rear parking assist with automatic braking.

Pricing and Availability

Additional specifications and pricing for the 2025 Camry lineup should be available closer to the sedan’s on-sale date, which is yet to be revealed.

In Russia, every third resident has their own vehicle. At the beginning of 2021, 45 million passenger cars were registered in the country. Almost a third of these are made by the Russian car company LADA. Toyota is currently the second most popular brand, with over four million cars in the country— the RAV4 and Camry are the most popular models. Next come Hyundai and Kia with over two million cars each in the country.

Compared with the United States and most of Europe, where around two out of three residents have their own vehicle, the car market in Russia is still relatively open and continues to develop. Russia imposes rather large customs duties on imported cars in order to force international car companies to produce their vehicles inside the country. As a result, many foreign car manufactures have localized their production in Russia and in some cases even modified their car models to accommodate Russian road conditions and people's tastes.  

Russians prefer low-budget crossovers and sedans. Hatchbacks and station wagons are less common, and small electric cars are generally an unusual sight (there are just 11,000 electric cars in the country, and 9,000 of them are the Nissan Leaf). 

"Russians are not interested in hatchbacks because of the lack of association with a high position in society," says Alexey Kozhukhov, an automotive marketing expert. He notes that in the Soviet period, a long Volga sedan was considered a high-class car and a symbol of power, and that these associations have been passed on to subsequent generations. 

Manufacturers have created economy-class sedans and SUVs that are specifically catered to the Russian market. According to the Association of European Businesses , in the first half of 2021 around 45% of new cars sold were crossovers. 

Best selling cars in Russia in 2021

The simplest and cheapest car on the Russian market, the Granta is assembled at the AvtoVAZ plant in Togliatti. Some typical customer reviews state that the car is “reliable and without problems” or that “I didn’t have big illusions and got what I expected.” A sedan without air conditioning costs 560,000 rubles ($7,800), and the LUXE version with a heated windshield, cruise control and an automatic transmission costs 780,000 rubles ($11,000). 

2. Lada Vesta

Lada’s latest model, the Vesta, is designed to be a sedan and crossover, although there is also a sports version. The car meets most consumers’ needs but is cheaper than foreign brands. “When I bought it, I understood that it was AvtoVAZ and there might be problems ahead, but the desire to buy this beauty simply prevailed, and I only wanted a new car in this budget,” one Russian driver writes , adding that he didn’t want to buy a used car. 

The simplest model with a manual transmission, air conditioning and airbags sells for 795,000 rubles ($11,200), while the most expensive “Sport” version costs 1.2 million rubles ($17,000).

3. Hyundai Creta

This crossover is one of the most inexpensive cars in its class in Russia. Its price ranges from 1.2 million rubles ($17,000) to about 2 million rubles for the top version ($28,000). “Many Creta owners with a 1.6-liter engine complain about the sluggish dynamics. I wasn't looking for a racing car, so the car is fine for me. My priority was AWD, which fully justified itself. Now I can go to nature any time and not worry about getting stuck on a dirt road,” writes one driver from the Urals. 

Hyundai also was also the first car manufacturer in Russia to offer online sales directly from the factory without the dealer.

4. Hyundai Solaris

The Solaris is a version of the Accent that was localized specifically for Russia in 2010 and is produced in St. Petersburg. Russian drivers seem quite satisfied with the model, which is a budget sedan that is resistant to temperature changes and harsh weather conditions and is generally reliable. “I wanted to use it for at least five years without looking under the hood,” wrote one driver about why he chose this model. 

The Solaris ranges in price from 890,000 rubles ($12,500) to 1.3 million rubles ($18,300) for the top configuration.

5. KIA Rio

The KIA Rio has also been produced in St. Petersburg since 2011, and, like the Solaris, only comes in a sedan model, which is more popular among local customers. The design and technical characteristics of the Russian Rio are slightly different from versions sold in other countries. Many drivers note that it has good heating and the ability to start at minus 30 Celsius. As a result, the car has become one of the best-selling models in the country. It ranges in cost from 950,000 ($13,400) to 1.3 million rubles ($18,300)

6. Volkswagen Polo

All Polo models sold in Europe are hatchbacks, but in Russia Volkswagen opted to modify this legendary model to produce what has become one of the most popular sedans in Russia. “The car is a car. The trunk is huge and comfortable. There is quite a lot of space in the cabin, both in front and behind. The driving is not bad, better than other cars of this class,” writes one owner. 

The Polo Sedan is assembled at a factory in Kaluga (about 200 km from Moscow). The cheapest model costs 1 million ($14,100), while the most expensive version goes for 1.9 mln rubles ($26,800). 

7. Lada Niva

The first Soviet SUV is still in production and has a loyal customer base for its combination of being extremely cheap and strong for off-road driving. Many Russians use it to get to their remote dachas. 

The simplest version costs 660,000 rubles ($9,300). The most expensive version is called the Niva Travel (formerly the Chevrolet Niva), costs 993,000 rubles ($14,000) and is equipped with a snorkel in case the car is overtaken by water in severe road conditions. And there is no automatic transmission! “Its passion is dirt roads, super suspension, it ‘swallows’ holes in the roads, you don't notice irregularities,” wrote a driver from the Amur Region in the Far East. However, customers note that the interior is not particularly comfortable and that the car consumes a lot of fuel.

8. Škoda Rapid PA II

This is another economy class sedan that has won the hearts of many Russian drivers. “The new Rapid is comfortable to drive, there is a lot of automation,” says one owner from St. Petersburg. They go on to write : “Turn the steering wheel and hit the gas, and switch on cruise control on a high-way, and the car will do everything else by itself.” 

The Škoda Rapid is assembled at a plant in Kaluga. The simplest version costs 990,000 rubles ($14,000) and already includes a media system with a touch screen and Bluetooth. The most expensive version costs 1.4 million rubles ($19,700).

9. Renault Duster

Renault cars are assembled in Moscow. For a long time, the most popular Renault model was the Logan sedan, but this year the Duster SUV took that title. "Who can imagine a life that is no longer just being in a hurry," one driver jokes about driving the car. "The Duster is a family car. The car is enough to cheerfully stay in traffic" writes another.

The price of the simplest model with a manual transmission starts at 1 million rubles ($14,300), while the most expensive 4x4 version is twice as much.

10. Lada Largus VP

The only wagon model in this list is also produced by the Russian company AvtoVAZ. Largus is a fairly budget car that is popular not only among dacha enthusiasts, but also for commercial purposes. “The main plus is the suspension and stability on the road,” writes a driver from Tyumen (Siberia), “No need to worry about driving the highway on Largus in winter.” All versions are equipped with a manual transmission and cost from 780,000 ($11,000) to 978,000 rubles ($13,700).

I can confirm that the XLE does come with Cruise Control and not just an extra lever on the right side of the steering column...
