The greater philadelphia craft beer trail, see why the philadelphia region is one of the best places for beer in the world....

Copied to Clipboard

While he may never have actually said “God made beer because he loves us and wants us to be happy,” the sentiment commonly attributed to Benjamin Franklin remains true, particularly in his beloved home of Philadelphia. The city is one of the nation’s leading craft beer capitals and sits at the forefront of the American craft brewing renaissance.

Philadelphia has earned a plethora of craft beer-related accolades, including honors as one of the best American beer cities by national publications like GQ , USA Today , CNN and Thrillist , and as home to Craft Beer and Brewing Magazine ’s best beer bar in the world . A handful of the region’s breweries and beer professionals have reached the rank of semifinalist for the James Beard Foundation Awards , and its brewers frequently rack up hardware at craft beer’s biggest gatherings, including the yearly Great American Beer Festival ( 51 medals – 13 of them gold — for Philly-area breweries since 2010) and the biannual World Beer Cup (nearly two-dozen Philly medals over the last four competitions).

An imposing roster of formidable beer artisans operate a staggering 116 breweries (across more than 165 locations) throughout Philadelphia and the Countryside, a lineup which includes some of the most coveted and celebrated in the United States — from Yards Brewing and Sly Fox to Dock Street and Victory Brewing — as well as a stellar collection of micro and nanobreweries, neighborhood brewhouses, experimental specialty shops and everything in between. All together, the region’s brew scene Philadelphia one of the country’s craft beer tourism hotspots, a must-experience destination for locals and visitors alike.

Grab a glass and map out your own visit to the best craft breweries in the city of Philadelphia and the surrounding region (Bucks, Chester, Delaware and Montgomery counties) with our comprehensive guide, which is sortable alphabetically, geographically and by rating on Untappd, the popular nearly 10-million-user social app which allows craft beer drinkers to review and share thoughts on beers they’re drinking and the breweries that produce them.

Philadelphia breweries range widely in size and scope. There are the pioneering names, like Dock Street, Philadelphia Brewing Co., Sly Fox, Victory and Yards, responsible for sparking the local craft beer renaissance and creating some of Philadelphia’s best-known, and most accessible, craft recipes.

Newer additions like Human Robot, Levante, La Cabra and Brewery ARS have steadily expanded into multiple locations, developing wider brand recognition and distribution throughout the region. The tide on independent full-service brewpubs is rising fast, too, as stalwarts are joined by distinctive standalones (Crime & Punishment, Second District) as well as locally based chains (Conshohocken, Iron Hill).

Innovation and originality are another major hallmark of the Philadelphia scene, with breweries like Fermentery Form, Imprint, Free Will and Forest & Main often garnering international buzz by focusing on esoteric, hard-to-find or altogether new varieties, styles and techniques like fruited sours and milkshake IPAs. Pennsylvania breweries based outside the immediate region, such as Liquid Art and Separatist, and even breweries from further afield, like Other Half and Source, have made an effort to make their presence permanently known in the city with Philadelphia outposts.

All this action is bolstered by a lineup of still-in-the-works concepts, a promising sign that beer here will continue its boom, even in the face of immense challenges rooted in the pandemic.

Beer Tours and Philly Beer Week

Many of the breweries in the five-county region have tours and/or tastings at their facilities, and a number of local groups — including  City Brew Tours ,  Liberty Brew Tours  and  Viator  — offer comprehensive experiences that include multiple breweries across the breadth of Philadelphia’s deep, dynamic beer scene.

Taking place every June, the 10-day  Philly Beer Week is the largest beverage celebration of its kind in America, drawing breweries and visitors from around the country and world.

Philadelphia Beer History

Philadelphians have embraced beer and beer culture since the very beginning of our nation. After all, this is the birthplace of America, and great ideas have been known to hatch over a pint. Case in point: Local taverns served as vital meeting points during the American Revolution, providing the well-stocked gathering spaces required by Founding Fathers and common colonists alike to birth modern democracy.

Philadelphia would also play a crucial role in the wider maturation of American beercraft. In the mid-19th through the early-20th centuries, more than 90 breweries operated in Philadelphia proper, and another 100 operated in the surrounding areas, making it one of the region’s most stable and essential industries.

The brewery uptick came to an end in 1920, when Prohibition brought on the near-demise of virtually all of Philadelphia’s beer producers, the majority of which remained shuttered beyond the repeal of the “Noble Experiment” in 1933. But the enterprising, independent spirit of the originators never left the fabric of Philadelphia’s civic identity, setting the scene for a serious comeback that began gaining steam in the early 1980s.

Throughout the next 20-plus years, innovative craft breweries proudly reclaimed the region’s reputation by brewing some of the country’s best beer.

2SP Brewing Company

The pride of Delaware County, 2SP Brewing Company has some serious (beer) muscles bolstering its operation, including partner-brewmaster Bob Barrar, who guided Iron Hill’s Media location to dozens of national awards before striking out in 2015. It didn’t take long for Barrar and company to continue racking up hardware — The Russian imperial stout has won three Great American Beer Festival gold medals — on a 20-bbl system in Aston. The tucked-away facility is accompanied by a spic-and-span public tasting room pouring more than 20 of their beers like their signature Delco Lager, special releases, and creative small batches aged in wine and whiskey casks. In 2022, 2SP opened a tap house location in Chadds Ford, offering a dog-friendly outdoor patio, a dozen taps, and a menu of fun bar bites like smash burgers, spent grain biscuits and baked pretzels.

The taproom, built out of a former tire dealership, has expanded into the spot’s parking lot, which allows for ample room to kick back and hang out with food trucks and music (both live acoustic and replays of old Grateful Dead shows). The brewery also operates the new Artifact Brewing Brewpub a few miles up PA 611 in co-owner Ryan McKinney’s hometown of Doylestown inside a former Pennsylvania state store.

Artillery Brewing

After an initial run on a farm at the edge of the Brandywine Battlefield, Artillery Brewing moved into its new “Barracks Taproom” home on the west end of West Chester in 2021. Artillery blends local farm ingredients into many of their recipes as they craft beers across a range of classic styles (“Nothing fad-ish,” they say), with names that play on events relating to the Revolutionary War and its battlefields like The Militia lager, Paoli Massacre session and The Battle of the Clouds IPA to honor the rich 18th-century history of Greater Philadelphia. The brewery plans to produce a beer named for every battlefield between Maine and Georgia, with a portion of the proceeds supporting the preservation of each namesake battlefield museum, park or historical society.

Bald Birds Brewing Company

At the start of 2017, Joe and Abby Feerrar made a New Year’s resolution to write a craft-beer business plan that would allow them to leave their corporate careers behind. The following year, the couple launched Bald Birds Brewing Company , combining a production brewery with a family- and pet-friendly taproom in Audubon. Featuring billiards, arcade games and food trucks, the public-facing side pours a dozen beers featuring head brewer Patrick Countryman’s smart mix of IPAs, lagers, pilsners, stouts and special releases. The Bald Birds name reflects the owners’ sense of humor and self-awareness, as Joe has gone chrome-dome since his 20s, while wife Abby has autoimmune disorder alopecia.

Bitchin’ Kitten Brewery

Long-time beer aficionado Michael Crosson began by experimenting with homebrewing in his small apartment kitchen, creating his first concoction named “Bitchin’ Kitten,” after his wife Brigitte’s cat Shadow who once accidentally mistook a White Russian for milk (and did not enjoy the experience). In 2019, Michael entered his brew into a homebrew competition and walked away with a silver medal, a success that was the impetus to open the feline-themed Bitchin’ Kitten Brewery in 2021 in Morrisville, Bucks County. Every quarter, the couple donate a portion of their proceeds to a different cat rescue operation and feature the organization on a beer label. In keeping with the cat-egory, the tap list gets cheeky with names such as their Sour Puss sour ale, Kitten Mittens cold IPA and Boujee Cat raspberry wheat.

Braeloch Brewing

While “Braeloch” is Scottish for “hill by a lake,” Kennett Square’s Braeloch Brewing is more of a “brewpub by a creek.” Named for the Keuka Lake family home of co-owner Kent Steeves in upstate New York, the 10-barrel brewery and taproom is built out of a turn-of-the-century brick warehouse once used to grow mushrooms. Rather than fungi, now it’s cream ales, saisons and fruited sours popping up, poured from 15 taps behind a 75-foot-long bar that snakes through the room. When Dock Street Brewing exited its iconic West Philly firehouse in spring 2022, it would have been sacrilege for the space to not continue as a friendly craft beverage space. Enter Carbon Copy , Philly’s first combined brewery and winery that reopened the historic firehouse doors in December of 2022 (with Dock Street co-owner Rosemarie Certo’s blessing). New owners Brendon Boudwin and Kyle Wolak, both formerly of Tired Hands Brewing, updated the space with high-tops, bar seating and tables for 50, plus new large windows letting in the daytime sun and large windows into the brewhouse where the duo brew beers onsite. Crime and Punishment Brewing Co.

The first 21st-century brewery to open in the aptly named Brewerytown neighborhood, Crime and Punishment Brewing Co . leans into its Russian personality and decor — to be expected when a place is named after a Dostoyevsky novel. That said, this 50-seat, seven-barrel operation, open since 2015, is strictly Philly in spirit. Brewer-partners Michael Paul and Michael Wambolt balance approachability and edginess, looking to the season to inspire the six to eight beers they offer at any time. While year-rounders like Space Race, a complex but drinkable IPA, are typically on, drinkers might also run into an inky oatmeal stout, tasty cranbeer or gose brewed with kombu, depending on the day. Dock Street Brewery

Two people sit in armchairs drinking beer underneath a neon sign that says, "It's All In Your Head."

Some refer to Dock Street Brewery  as the O.G. Philly brewery , and they’re not exaggerating. When the original location opened in 1989, it became the very first craft brewery to open in Philadelphia since Prohibition. While the brewery has changed locations a number of times, Rosemarie Certo’s influential brewery continues on at Dock Street South . Opened in 2019, this location brings a 20-barrel, 10,000-square-foot brewhouse and taproom to South Philly, with 12 beer taps and creative cocktails complementing signature pizzas and brasserie-style eats. South hosts weekly quizzo, live music, regular pop-up markets and more. Every Saturday, the brewery offers $10-per-ticket tours into the behind-the-scenes operation, with beer samples and a take-home pint glass. April 2023 saw the opening of the long-awaited Dock Street Fishtown taproom on Front Street, a new all-electric taproom featuring eight beer lines (plus four for cider and wine) behind the concrete-topped bar and kitchen serving Mediterranean small plates (try the house-made wood-fired pita), again expanding the iconic brand back to multiple locations.

Fermentery Form

A pet project of three longtime friends that blossomed into a full-on West Kensington operation, Fermentery Form doesn’t actually brew on-site. Instead, unfermented beer is created elsewhere and brought in to ferment, blend and age … ergo, fermentery. The results are crisp, refreshing beers executed in the style of Belgian lambics and French farmhouse ales that have garnered a cult following among the city beer cognoscenti. But before you head into this back-alley beer spot (which offers three to four drafts and a selection of 750mL bottles), check if the green light outside is illuminated — that indicates the ’by announcement only ” speakeasy is open. (Alternative option: Just check their social media.) The prohibition-era theatrics are worth the fun for the Belgian-style mixed fermentation and sour beers this team produces.

Forest & Main Brewing Company

When Daniel Endicott and Gerard Olson first opened Forest & Main Brewing Company in 2012, they wanted an opportunity to embody that small town, front porch, idyllic feel. “We believe in simplicity, and letting the yeast shine brightest,” says Endicott, who prefers to brew balanced, lower-ABV styles of Belgian and British origin, including darks and bitters poured on cask. Having outgrown their original 19th-century Victorian facility, the Forest & Main team moved on and up to not one, but two new locations in November of 2022. Their relocated Production Facility brewery unwrapped just a couple blocks away on North Main Street, while a standalone brewpub opened its doors on busy East Butler Avenue inside a former skate shop with a dozen taps (three of which are side-pull), three cask beer hand pumps and room for 50.

Ask Great Barn Brewery founders Steve and Maryana Ferguson what it means to truly drink local and they will tell you all about their farm-crafted beers made from ingredients they grow themselves next door to their Ukrainian-owned brewery in the northernmost point of Bucks County. This farm-to-glass experience is only possible thanks to the grain cultivated on their 177-acre Kintnersville farmstead, having converted the eponymous barn into a wind-powered seven-bbl brewhouse where they turn their own locally malted barley and spring water from the grounds into brews like Where the Delaware Am I? and Hazy Acres IPAs sold right there on the farm as well as at their other locations. Human Robot Brewery

Does combining experimental nouveau beers, fascinatingly poured traditional drafts and award-winning sandwiches compute? That’s a question the flesh-and-blood folks at Human Robot Brewery aim to answer at their Kensington brewpub. Among the flavorful offerings are half-a-dozen varieties of beers on standard draft, plus a selection of German and Czech lagers and ales offered as tank pours and or as one of three “traditional” hladinka, šnyt and miklo pour styles, or as a unique Czech-inspired Milktube, a stange glass filled from the Lukr faucet with dense Polotmavy foam meant to be chugged. If all that makes you hungry, too, you’re in luck — Poe’s Sandwich Joint , formerly a popular Fishtown takeout shop with a cult following, now operates right inside the brewery, offering some of the best sandwiches in the city. In March 2022, the brewery expanded in Jenkintown, Montco, with a 140-seat brewpub, dubbed The Haus , serving 14 draft brews (including the Milktube) and a German beer hall-inspired food menu.

J.J. Ratigan Brewing Company

The folks behind Pottstown’s J.J. Ratigan Brewing Company aren’t afraid to embrace the past. Located in the town’s historic 19th-century Ellis Mills department store building (complete with exposed brick walls and original wood floors), the brewery is named after a real pre-Prohibition Philadelphia brewer (and co-owner Dan Glennon’s great-great-uncle) who helped lead Philly’s anti-temperance resistance. But the old easily melds with the new at the 15-barrel brewery, which offers both crowd-pleasing takes on classic beer styles and trendier, seasonal brews. J.J. Ratigan is also a full-service restaurant, the largest eatery in Montco’s second-largest city, offering a scratch menu inspired by beer gardens around the world, plus craft cocktails, whiskies and local wines.

A group of four friends cheers outdoors at Other Half in Philly on a sunny day. One of the people has a dog in his lap.

Founded in 2014 in Brooklyn, Other Half Brewing’s mission is to represent the “other half” of the beer industry. That mission included a plan for regional expansion, which became reality in Philly in 2022 with the opening of Other Half Brewing Philly inside the old Goose Island Beer space in the Fillmore Philly complex in Fishtown . The brewery pours 20 drafts — including Philly-location-specific creations and guest tap takeovers from other local brewers — inside its busy 150-seat taproom and spacious outdoor beer garden.

Open since 2019, the brewery — owned by parents of children on the autism spectrum — has been meticulously designed to be accessible for all, with “make someone’s life a little easier” as part of their credo. The Proper Brewing Company

Someone filling a growler at Proper Brewing Company

Kris and Brian Wilson left careers in medicine and tech to convert Quakertown’s nearly century-old Palace Theatre into The Proper Brewing Company (TPBC) in 2015 as part of the Quakertown Revitalization Project. Inside, exposed brick, plaster molding and some original seating preserved from the building’s past life as a vaudeville house commingle with contemporary touches like flat-screens and a sleek industrial draft tower whose jet-black finish matches the 22-seat bar. This system pours a lineup of a dozen in-house creations at any time, backed by local draft wines and ciders. Easygoing flagships include the Blondie Bree blonde ale and Belgian-influenced Gabi Wit, joined on tap by rotating IPAs, bourbon stouts, sours from their “Pucker Up” series and more. Thoughtful pub fare populates the menu, where wings, salads and sandwiches rule, with beef locally sourced from nearby Windy Springs Farm, which also receives TPBC’s spent brewing grain to use as feed.

Vault Brewing Company

Housed in the circa-1889 Yardley National Bank, Vault Brewing Company ’s allure comes as much from its speakeasy-in-a-bank-esque design — wrought-iron caging, safety deposit boxes, the original four-ton vault door that opens into the cellar — as its beer. On offer: 10 selections on tap, including session-friendly IPAs, pilsners, wits and a sweet potato ale, along with a kitchen serving a hearty menu of small plates, sandwiches and seven gourmet pizzas straight from their wood-burning oven. And just a five-minute walk south is the brewery’s Vault Smoke House barbecue restaurant and taproom, a full-service satellite location in the Tannery office park, with nine taps and plenty of brisket, smoked sausage, pulled pork and ribs served with Memphis, Alabama and both North and South Carolina-style sauces.

Victory Brewing Company

Founded by childhood friends Ron Barchet and Bill Covaleski who met on a school bus in 1973, Victory Brewing Company began operations in 1996, making for an over-quarter-century of bold beers for drinkers who love big flavors. Victory, one of Philly’s most-impactful brands, distributes nationwide and operates multiple locations across the region including spacious Chester County brewhouse restaurants in Kennett Square , Downingtown and Parkesburg ; the vast indoor-outdoor Victory Beer Hall at XFINITY Live! in the heart of the South Philly Sports Complex ; and an expansive 14,000-square-foot brewery and taproom at 1776 Ben Franklin Parkway in Center City. The latter offers 28 brews on tap (including five location-exclusive “Philly Brew’d” taps) served across two indoor bars, a pet-friendly outdoor bar, a beer garden, sidewalk seating and a rooftop patio accompanied by a scratch-made pub menu heavy on beer-inspired entrées and Philly faves like soft pretzels, cheesesteaks and loaded fries all topped with Victory Prima Pils cheese sauce.

VK Brewing Co. & Eatery

Originally planned for Glen Mills, veteran-owned VK Brewing Co. & Eatery shifted gears last minute, opening inside the beautiful and historic circa-1796 Ship Inn building in Exton in late 2022. The brewery opened serving from ten taps including their now-flagship Grand Opening West Coast IPA and Haunted Haze hazy IPA. While the ten-bbl brewery sits next-door in a former horse stable, the taproom and restaurant occupy the first floor of the 18th century stone edifice once patronized by George Washington, Andrew Jackson and even Jackie Kennedy. The restaurant offers burgers, pasta dishes and stone-baked pizzas, along with a (coming soon) raw bar as well as an outdoor patio that seats 40.

von C Brewing Co.

The von Czoernig family team at von C Brewing Co. can claim some serious brewing cred as sixth-generation brewers descended from third-great-grandfather Christian Schmidt who first brought lager yeast to Philly from Germany in the 19th century and founded the iconic Christian Schmidt Brewing Company in Northern Liberties in 1860. Each successive generation produced master brewers, culminating in the opening of the 20-barrel, 16,000 square foot von C microbrewery tasting room and beer garden in Norristown, voted “ Best New Brewery in PA ” in 2021 by Breweries in PA readers. The brewery offers 19 taps serving up stouts, pilsners, sours and lagers including the original Pils Legendary Philly Lager, a “very pale” American lager based on their family’s 160 year old recipe.

Warwick Farm Brewing

A person holds a full glass of beer with groups of people sitting outside in chairs at Warwick Farm Brewing

Situated among the rolling hills of Bucks County , Warwick Farm Brewing — owned by two fathers and their sons — is literally going back to its roots. Located on a historic 22-acre farm atop the highest point in Jamison, the farm-to-glass microbrewery and brew farm grows many of its beers’ own ingredients on-site. These ultra-fresh beers are then served just steps away, in either the new 5,000-square-foot tasting and taproom with 24 draft lines, the fireside seating area, the refurbished 1,500-square-foot wraparound deck, or the expansive biergarten and 18-foot beer trailer with its own draft tap lines, all overlooking newly planted hop fields and the Little Neshaminy Valley. The brewery serves up traditional to experimental styles, and plans to expand its ingredients and its space with an orchard and a sour cellar, among other additions.

The Ways Restaurant & Brewery

Siblings Tim and Steven Way, proudly describing themselves as “two red-headed brothers from Jenkintown ,” turned their shared passion for craft beer into a family business, opening The Ways Restaurant & Brewery in neighboring Glenside across from the town’s SEPTA regional rail station in 2019. The 75-seat brewpub taps into the talents of both Ways brothers, with Tim, a veteran of well-known Weyerbacher Brewing in Easton, covering plenty of stylistic ground on his taut brewhouse setup featuring his Tim’s Home Team Brews stocked full of IPAs, stouts and pales, while chef Steven offers up clever pub fare and salads in addition to the signature corn tortilla creations served from his award-winning Smokin’ Tacos food truck.

Well Crafted Beer Company

In 2018, a quintet of college friends banded together to open Well Crafted Beer Company , a versatile brewpub located in a century-old Lansdale building that once housed a Masonic temple. The massive 5,000-square-foot space is evenly split between a brewhouse and modern-industrial restaurant-taproom, offering a 20-tap bar, a bottle shop and a stage for live entertainment. Brewer Rick Solomon and his team have made more than 180 recipes on their seven-barrel system, including flagship beers Nitro Blonde Americano ale with lactose and coffee conditioned on single-origin coffee from Lansdale’s Backyard Beans, Mother Of Perle kölsch and the fruity, fragrant Hop Monger IPA. The brewery recently expanded to a second location eight miles south at Ambler Yards, serving 13 craft brews on tap along with a regular rotation of food trucks.

Their selection runs the gamut from IPAs and lagers to pilsners and porters served in a friendly neighborhood taproom with a casual, lived-in feel and a daily lineup of local food trucks. Workhorse Brewing Company

A waiter takes an order in front of a wall that says "Cheers!" at Workhorse Brewing Company in King of Prussia

Residents of King of Prussia were long an underserved local beer enclave until the opening of Workhorse Brewing Company , the brainchild of co-founder Dan Hershberg, a marketing and business veteran of such diverse stops as ESPN, the Phillies and his own popular Northern Liberties’ Philly Phaithful sports T-shirt shop. In 2016, Hershberg — with zero prior beer experience outside of personal consumption — launched his Workhorse brand to quick and universal acclaim. Within two years, Hershberg, alongside president and head brewer Nate Olewine (formerly of Devils Backbone and Victory Brewing), opened Workhorse’s mammoth KOP 30-bbl Rolec production brewhouse and tasting room. The pair will both tell you their M.O. is rooted in approachability, offering well-made beers that are simply enjoyable to drink and don’t demand any esoteric graduate-level sensory analysis. The result: a line of signature ales and lagers like the Queen of Prussia and Line of Succession session IPAs, as well as limited seasonal beers.

Wrong Crowd Beer Co.

Launched as a nanobrewery in Bryn Mawr in 2017, buddies Dan Shaw and Bob Bagonis soon decided it was time for their Wrong Crowd Beer Co. brewing operation to grow. The pair partnered with restaurant industry vets Kelly McGonagle and Kara Dougherty, opening a new production facility, taproom and scratch kitchen 20 miles away in West Chester in 2020. The taproom features two dozen draft lines from their 15-barrel brewing system, with new selections out every Friday, enjoyed along with a crowd-pleasing menu of wings, sandwiches and a dozen varieties of pizza on housemade dough.

Yards Brewing Company

A close-up shot of several people toasting a cheers with different glasses of beer

As the driving force behind one of Philly’s most popular beer brands, Yards Brewing Company president Tom Kehoe (along with co-founder and still-occasional collaborator Jon Bovit) helped ignite the craft beer revolution in Philadelphia, momentum he’s sustained through considerable humanitarian efforts as well as unwavering standards for his brews. Established in a small garage in 1994 — starting with its still-on-tap ESA extra special ale — Yards Brewing’s profile skyrocketed over the next three decades, expanding its headquarters location five times through Manayunk, Roxborough and Kensington before settling into its current 70,000-square-foot site in Northern Liberties in 2018. Powered by green wind energy, the brewery, taproom, restaurant and beer garden pours from 25 rotating taps including classics like Philadelphia Pale Ale, Philthy hazy IPA, Love Stout nitro and Brawler English Mild alongside “first draft” new beers. The brewery’s motto of “Brew Unto Others” is reflected in its commitment to quality in its beers and to the greater community and a pledge for long-term sustainability. If you’re on your way out of town (or into), enjoy a flight before your flight at their airport outpost by the American Airlines Admirals Club in Philadelphia International Airport ’s Terminal A-East.

Beer Lover’s Guide to New Orleans

Last Updated: Thursday, August 17, 2023 4:04 PM

New Orleans’ cocktail scene is world-renowned. Some of the most famous cocktails ever to be made were created right here in the Crescent City. Plus, food and drink are integral to the culture here, so it’s no surprise that the beer scene has seen a huge resurgence. From local breweries to tiny-but-mighty micro-breweries, and award-winning beer bars, this city is heaven for beer lovers. We’ve mapped out all the ways you can explore NOLA’s beer scene below.

Breweries & Microbreweries

NOLA Brewing Tap Room

NOLA Brewing Tap Room

Come for the beer, stay for NOLA Pizza Co.  NOLA Brewing Tap Room, located on Tchoupitoulas Street, is a locally famous brewery - you can find their beers in lots of restaurants and bars outside of the brewery itself. But coming to the brewery means you can taste every variety, get a tour of the facilities, and order some NY-style pizza to accompany your brews.

Urban South Brewery

Urban South Brewery is another local brewery with beers that you may have sampled outside of the brewery itself. But the interior of Urban South is worth a trip to the location on its own: it’s spacious, and aside from the actual brewery, Urban South is filled with tons of tables, arcade games, and corn hole. They're also known for being especially family-friendly, offering juice boxes for the littles, as well as a steady rotation of food trucks and pop-ups. Check their Instagram for more details.

Brieux Carre

Just on the edge of Frenchmen Street , sample beers unique to New Orleans and as interesting as the city itself, as Brieux Carre likes to put it. Every week, the taproom features new flavors of craft beer. They also have a lovely courtyard to enjoy when the weather is nice. Start your afternoon or night here.

Parleaux Beer Lab - Bywater

Parleaux Beer Lab

Parleaux Beer Lab is a microbrewery and an oasis from city life in NOLA. It’s nestled in the very end of the Bywater , on the corner of Lesseps Street. Inside, you'll find the brewery offers a selection of constantly rotating beers. Enjoy your drink inside or head outside to the spacious garden, where you’ll find swings, board games, patio furniture, and hanging lights.

Second Line Brewing

Named after the beloved New Orleans tradition, Second Line Brewing encompasses the spirit in their beers. It's located in Mid-City and features a large outdoor patio that is family- and dog-friendly. Food trucks and pop-ups frequent the beer garden, from fried chicken sandwiches and Vietnamese tacos to burgers and more.

Courtyard Brewery

The Courtyard Brewery

This small-batch nanobrewery in the Lower Garden District is a perfect hangout for day or night. Inside you don’t get to tour the brewing facilities, but you can taste their ever-evolving varieties of beers, stouts, IPAs, and more, and then enjoy it outside along with their rotating food options.

Miel Brewery & Taproom

Miel is an Irish Channel-based independent microbrewery that focuses on environmentally friendly production and local ingredients. Seasonal beers are served in their taproom and outdoor space, which is great for a night out with friends. The area is both dog and kid-friendly with a variety of pop-up vendors.

Broad Street Cider

Dry cider and mead are made in their New Orleans taproom. Participate in their Cider Club for curated bimonthly selections.

Port Orleans Brewing Company

Port Orleans Brewing Co.

Port Orleans Brewing Co. is aptly named, as it is located on Tchoupitoulas Street near the Port of New Orleans. The brewery’s motto is “brewed below sea level,” and they're committed to serving the local community excellent craft beer. The outdoor patio is dog-friendly, and the brewery room is kid-friendly. You can also grab tacos, guac, and more from Avo Taco , their on-site restaurant.

Faubourg Brewing Co.

Located on a huge campus in New Orleans East, Faubourg Brewery offers tours, outdoor live music, pet-friendly seating, regular comedy shows, skate nights, trivia nights, and special events.

Zony Mash Beer Project

Zony Mash is more than just a brewery—they regularly host food pop-ups and live music weekly. With 21 taps in the tasting room and a large outdoor space for relaxing, Zony Mash is a beer destination.

Skeeta Hawk Brewing

Skeeta Hawk is located right on the Lafitte Greenway next to Flour Moon Bagels . Bring the pups, bring the kids—Skeeta Hawk is a hang out space for all. Their two specially designed lagering tanks allow them to present a variety of European-style lagers as well as a rotating set of ales. The brewery also regularly hosts food trucks and pop ups on site.

Brewery Saint X

Located right around the corner from the Superdome and Smoothie King Center , Brewery Saint X is the perfect spot to pregame a Saints or Pels game. Enjoy German and Czech-inspired lagers, British cask-style beers, hop-forward brews, experimental sours, and full-flavored ales as well as food from Devil Moon BBQ next door.

Pubs & Beer Gardens

The Avenue Pub

If you’ve heard of Avenue Pub before, it’s because the bar has won tons of awards and accolades for its beer selection (yes, it was named one of the Top 100 Beer Bars in America). You can enjoy your selection on a balcony overlooking St. Charles Avenue , inside the bar, or at an outdoor table, and you can order food as well. But the best part about Avenue Pub is its extensive selection of beers from New Orleans and beyond. Great beer, great location, great people watching.

Located on Lafitte Greenway , Wrong Iron is a fun stop in the Mid-City neighborhood. They serve over 50 beers on tap and have a variety of food trucks on site. There is plenty of outdoor space for you and friends, as well as games. Biking there is a great option, as they have 60 bike parking spaces. You must be 21 to enter.

The Bulldog on Magazine Street

The Bulldog

The Bulldog has two locations: one Uptown on Magazine Street and one in Mid-City . Both offer dog-friendly patios that feature beer-tap fountains, and a seemingly endless menu of beer options (and mixed drinks, too). Every weeknight has a different special, so be sure to check the official website for details. The pub fare at The Bulldog is award-winning: we recommend cheese fries for the table, at least!

Located in the Riverbend, this Oak Street bar has an extensive beer and ale selection by the glass or pint. They feature a variety of Southern craft brewers and savory snacks. It is a small, neighborhood gem, great for watching sports or catching up with friends.

Bayou Beer Garden

Bayou Beer Garden

Bayou Beer Garden is just steps away from the beautiful Bayou St. John . The atmosphere is lively, with a large outdoor garden that hosts crawfish boils and other events. Bayou Beer Garden is great for groups, as you can order buckets of beer or each taste your own favorite after a day of kayaking on the bayou or exploring City Park .

Bratz Y'all

Bratz Y’all

Bratz Y’all, conveniently located next to Pizza Delicious , is a casual beer garden in the Bywater neighborhood of New Orleans. There’s a small indoor area, but really, the atmosphere is best enjoyed during lovely weather so you can sit at the outside tables, play a game of cornhole, or listen to live music when the venue hosts musicians. Bratz Y’all is a German beer garden, so you can have traditional German food (the pretzels are a must) and German beers like pilsners.

Restaurants

Gordon biersch brewery restaurant.

On the buzzing Fulton Street and steps from Harrah's Casino , wash down American staples with a German beer. Expect nachos, burgers, and hearty dishes on the menu, with plenty of beers to choose from.

Brewery Tours

If you’re in town for a short visit and want to experience as much of the craft beer scene here in NOLA as possible, check out one of these brewery tours around the city. You’ll either meet a tour bus/truck or it will pick you up, and you’ll have a designated driver and tour guide take you from brewery to brewery so you can have a local show you around, and you can taste tons of beers.

These are just a few of the ways you can try beers around New Orleans. There are plenty more bars and breweries to visit, which you can find in our listings here .

Great beer, fun beer knowledge, awesome people. Seth is one of the best tour guides. The Saison at Spuyten Duyvel was a favorite. Also really liked Singlecut. I'm not normally a fan of IPA's, but theirs was really good!

We had the best time with Seth as our tour guide! So many cool spots and amazing beers. Definitely add this to your NYC visit!!!

Visited McSorley's, Brooklyn Brewery (where we had great BBQ delivered) and ended at Fifth Hammer. It was a very diverse group ranging from non-beer drinkers to craft beer aficionados and there was something for everyone. Highly recommended !!

Seth was incredibly knowledgeable, not only about the beers, but about the history of NYC in general and it was an awesome learning experience! I highly recommend this tour if you are looking to see the city and enjoy some amazing beers!! Cheers and thank you Seth!

This is our second time and would recommend it to anyone if they are looking for a fun day and some beer. Nick was so informative and made it an awesome day. He also suggested place to go once the tour was over. He was very personable with everyone. YOU NEED TO GO ON THE TOUR!!!

Great tour lots of good info, beer, and fun-guided. Great way to see the city in an air conditioned coach and visit places you wouldn’t ordinarily see. Had a blast! Perfect for friends or family, locals, or tourists.

Advisor

Best Experience Ever

"It was a birthday gift to remember. Awesome choices, plenty of time to explore and enjoy the other options available. Our guide was very knowledgeable and I have made changes in what we look for in beers as well as how we drink it - always in a glass. Fun and cool"

Excellent Time Had By All

"The tour was great from beginning to end. Mark was an awesome guide. Perfect man for our group. We really enjoyed his knowledge of beer and history. All the brewery stops were good, but Bantam Cider was my favorite. Will definitely be back!"

History Meets Beer

"This tour was a great way to experience the city of Boston and see what various types of beer it has to offer. The tour guide was very informative and made the overall experience fun and enjoyable. Plus, who doesn't like to sample 15-18 beers in under 6 hours? Will definitely recommend this tour to friends!"

Planning a visit.

The Cider House is where we research, develop, produce, and package all of our cider. Thursday through Sunday, we turn the middle of our production floor into a taproom and open it to visitors. We are 21+ and visitors must have ID's to enter. Our Cider House Taproom is a unique experience and you should read through the rest of this page and/or our FAQ page to know what to expect ahead of your visit. We offer one tasting flight per person, per day. Each flight comes with 4 flavors and with 12 rotating taps, you can choose all your faves or be one of the first people to test a brand new, taproom-exclusive flavor that may or may not hit the market someday. Afterwards, be sure to grab some Downeast merch and stock up on cans, growlers, or even kegs to take home with you. In the summertime, it doesn’t have to end there–head over to our pop-up cider garden located across the shipyard parking lot and enjoy full pours on tap or a freshly cracked can while you watch the best view of the sun dipping below the Boston skyline.

WHAT TO KNOW BEFORE VISITING

WE ARE A 21+ FACILITY. at both the cider house / taproom and our outdoor pop-up, all members in your party (yes, even your dd!) must show an ID to enter, no exceptions.

FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED. we do not take reservations, we seat parties as they arrive.

WEEKENDS ARE BUSY. EXPECT A WAIT. saturdays and sundays are our busiest days. we have limited seating and no standing room. wait times vary but can be anywhere from 5 to 55 minutes during peak hours. we do our best to turn tables over but ask for your patience.

YOU WON'T BE SAT TIL YOUR  WHOLE  PARTY ARRIVES. leave your chronically late friends out of these plans. on busy days and when we have a line, we cannot seat you until your whole party is physically there with you ("they are parking" doesn't count, we gotta see them for ourselves). parties arriving at separate times seriously impacts our ability to keep the line moving and causes longer wait times. once you are sat, we cannot seat new people at your table. please plan for your party to fully arrive before hopping in line. if the season is right and our outdoor pop-up is open, it's a great place to grab a cider and hang out while you wait for your crew!

PARTY SIZE MATTERS. we always try our best to accommodate but due to limited seating, we cannot guarantee that groups of 7+ can be sat all together.

groups with 10+ cannot be accommodated unless we split the group up and seat you separately.

KIDS AND BABIES ARE NOT TAPROOM FANS. we love kids. but they don't really love us and to be honest, we get it. our floors are concrete, we have no food, no non-alcoholic beverage options, and no ball pits. everyone in the cider house must be seated–and with lots of fancy cider-making machinery, ingredients, and chemicals around, we cannot allow children (or adults, for that matter) to be wandering, toddling, or running around. that being said,  if your kid is 10 years old or younger, we won't make them wait outside or anything like that, we just ask that they are seated or in your arms while visiting.

WE DO NOT OFFER TOURS. tours kinda boring anyway. who wants to be wearing close toed shoes and safety goggles when you can just sit at your table with a view of the whole thing? seriously, our taproom is in the middle of it all and the walk to the bathroom is essentially a self-guided tour of our entire production line.

but if that's not enough for you and you're interested in seeing it all in action, visit us on a thursday when our cider production and packaging is fully operational and you can sip your flight while watching our next flavor get canned right before your eyes.

15 Best Boston Beer, Wine and Food Tours

From Paul Revere and Samuel Adams to the Boston Tea Party, Boston Massachusetts is arguably the most historic city in all of America.

With only slightly more than 600,000 residents, it’s not large by modern city standards, but it’s got a well-earned reputation as a tough town that fiercely protects its heritage and traditions – and one that loves its beer and baseball too.

Due to its proximity to some of New England’s most historic and natural wonders, it’s a great stepping-point for other quick trips to the surrounding area.

Below are 15 of the best beer, wine and food tours in Boston.

1. The Original Boston Brews Tour

VIP Brewery & Beer-Tasting Tour with Lunch

Boston has always had a reputation as a town that enjoys its beer; if you’ve got a few hours to kill, there’s no better way to taste more of Boston’s favorite brews than by guided tour.

The tour includes stops at a few of the area’s most friendly taverns and breweries, where in addition to a thorough sampling and having nearly 100 different draft beers at your fingertips, you’ll also enjoy a great lunch.

From dark beer to light and almost everything in between, this tour has it all. It’s a great way to learn about the city’s history and meet some likeminded locals too.

2. Fenway Park History Pub Crawl

Fenway Park Baseball History Pub Crawl

Few things go together as well as baseball and beer, and when in a city like Boston that loves both, enjoying them together is a must.

This tour’s guide will be a local foodie, beer fanatic, and lover of all things baseball, so it’s really like getting three for the price of one.

You and your travel partners will hit at least three bars that are fan favorites, and a local brewery just a stone’s throw from the stadium.

If you’re lucky enough to go during baseball season, the atmosphere will be intense, but fear not, even if it’s the offseason the bars draw a great crowd.

3. Historic Taverns and Pizza Tour

Historic Taverns And Pizza Tour

Walking tours are a great way to get some exercise, see the sights up close, and get a great feel for the layout of a city.

This 2 ½-hour tour focuses on taverns and pizza – two things that go together like peanut butter and jelly.

On the tour, you’ll visit some of the region’s most historic landmarks, many of which date back to the country’s colonial days.

In bygone eras, taverns were often rallying points for tipsy patriots itching for a fight with the colonial rulers of whom they weren’t too fond. This tour will take you to some places that were once the haunts of some well-known historical figures.

4. Guided Brewery Tour with Drinks and either Lunch or Dinner

Guided Brewery Tour

Microbreweries and brewpubs are all the rage in Boston. Along with some of the city’s larger and more well-known breweries, they give Boston a beer culture that’s very unique.

On this tour, you’ll sample nearly 20 beers and learn about the brewing process.

If you’re staying downtown, door-to-door transportation is included. Depending on the tour you choose, it will either include lunch or dinner.

Even though a meal is included, it’s best not to show up on an empty stomach as some of the beers you’ll try are pretty strong. You wouldn’t want to fall asleep before you’ve gotten your money’s worth!

5. Historic Pub Crawl Tour along the Freedom Trail

Historic Pub Crawl Tour Along The Freedom Trail

Boston is one of the country’s most historic cities, and with such a rich beer history, this pub crawl along Freedom Trail is a great way to get your fill of both.

The crawl will lead you to many historic downtown pubs that are food and drink favorites of the locals -many of which are some of the oldest pubs in the country.

The tour lasts about 2 ½ hours. Like many guests, you may find yourself striking out on your own after the tour and revisiting some of the places you’ve just seen, making a night of it.

6. Food and History Tour from the North End to the Freedom Trail

North End To The Freedom Trail - Food & History Tour

In case you weren’t paying attention in elementary school history, Boston Harbor is one of the most historic areas in the country and is considered the birthplace of the Revolution.

This walking tour includes stops at historically important areas along the harbor and wharf, which runs along Atlantic Avenue.

You’ll stop into a few shops and eateries, and take an afternoon break for an espresso and a pastry.

Faneuil Hall, Quincy Market, and the Old State House are on the itinerary as well. Near the end, you’ll wind through picturesque Beacon Hill, one of the city’s gems.

7. South End Wine and Walking Tour

South End Wine And Walking Tour

Though pretty much everybody knows about Boston’s ages-old beer tradition, what’s not so well known is that the city has undergone a bit of a wine renaissance lately too.

This tour of the city’s South End winds its way through Victorian-era flats, quaint shops, and plenty of restaurants, cafes, and bars that are usually full of cheerful revelers.

At each wine tasting stop, you’ll enjoy reserved tables, food selected specifically to go with your wines, and knowledgeable staff that’ll walk you through the samples and give you a refreshing insight into the finer points of wine-snobbery.

8. Independence Pub Crawl

Independence Pub Crawl

With so many pubs and pub crawls in the city, it’s a wonder you can even walk down the sidewalk without stumbling over inebriated tourists.

For those who’ve only got a few hours to spare, this short but fun pub crawl gives guests the option of choosing what time of the day best suits them.

The tour is led by a local history and spirits aficionado, who’ll take you to some popular and historically significant pubs, where you’ll be able to sample many of the city’s microbrews and hard ciders too.

Food and tips aren’t included, so bring a few extra bucks.

9. Back Bay Walking and Wine Tasting Tour

Back Bay, Boston

Boston’s Back Bay is a trendy area and one especially popular with those who like experiencing the city’s history while sampling some amazing cuisine and wines that were just made for one another.

If you’re not up on wine terms and pairings, fear not, your guide will tell you all there is to know so you can get the most bang for your buck.

Hotel pickup and drop-off aren’t included, but if you’re staying downtown you may be able to walk to the meeting point.

Since it’s a walking tour, be sure to wear a pair of comfy shoes.

10. Sip of Boston Brewery Tour

Sip Of Boston Brewery Tour

Of all the famous brands of beer brewed in Boston, Samuel Adams is probably the most well-known. Though it started out small, it has grown significantly and now ships its flagship Boston Lager all over the country.

On this tour, you’ll visit the brewing facilities of Samuel Adams and Harpoon and get a fascinating historical insight from the tour’s knowledgeable and enthusiastic guide.

From pilsners and stouts to wheat beers and pale ales, you’ll sample many of the most popular, and probably a few that you’ve never even heard of.

Bottled water and snacks are included, as is bus transportation.

11. North End Wine and Walking Tour

North End Wine And Walking Tour

When visiting a new city, it can be difficult to get a feel of where things are before it’s time to pack your bags and head home.

If that sounds like you, consider a walking tour, which will not only get you some exercise and an up-close-and-personal view of the city but on this tour will include some of the region’s best wines.

Group size is limited to 12; you’ll explore Boston’s Little Italy and your wines will be paired with some delectable sweet and savory treats that’ll really satisfy that sweet tooth of yours.

12. Cocktails and Cannoli

Cocktails And Cannoli

If paired correctly, cocktails and sweets can go together nicely, and though Boston is predominately Irish, it’s also got a thriving Italian community that’s especially known for its cannoli.

This tour includes stops to some of the area’s most noted bakeries. You’ll even watch chocolate being made, after which you’ll get to satisfy those taste buds by sampling tiramisu and cannoli along with your cocktail.

The tour lasts about 2 ½ hours. During that time you’ll learn a great deal about the area’s fascinating history too.

Though this tour is brief, it’s a great value for your time and money.

13. South End Food and Drink Tour

South End Food And Drink Tour

Boston’s South End is one of the city’s most famous neighborhoods and has been notably featured in many popular movies about the gangsters who made their names there.

Though the area was once an Irish stronghold, it’s become more diverse lately. On this tour, you’ll stop into a few shops that may seem out of place with their remarkably international cuisine.

The architecture is amazing too, as is the area’s rich history and the amazing restaurants serving lots of traditional classics and some with a contemporary twist.

The tour includes a fair amount of walking and lasts about 3 ½ hours.

14. New England’s Beaches, Beers and Bluffs

New England’s Beaches, Beers And Bluffs

If you’ve got a wide-open itinerary, a pocket full of credit cards, and want to experience all that New England has to offer in one tour, then this is for you.

This seven-day tour includes visits to neighboring states like New Hampshire, Maine, and Vermont. Along the way, you’ll see some amazing natural beauty, learn about the area’s colonial history, and sample some of the region’s most famous and delicious beers too.

Highlights include a Maine lobster cruise and a visit to the Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe.

There’s just too much to list, so check it out thoroughly before booking.

15. North End Secret Food Tour

North End Secret Food Tour

Boston is one of those cities that’s full of unique and distinct neighborhoods that have their own food, feel and history.

This three-hour walking tour is limited to 12 people and will lead you through the city’s North End. Your guide will take you to some of the neighborhood’s most diverse and delectable restaurants, where you’ll sample seafood, sweets, beer, and wine, all while rubbing elbows with some locals and getting to know your travel mates.

Things will get kicked off with a lobster roll, and you’ll try pizza, homemade sausages and some craft beer too.

Budweiser Tour St. Louis: Photos, Guide and Review

Updated on June 22, 2020 • Originally Published September 10, 2019

An insider guide with photos and an honest review of the Budweiser tour in St. Louis. This tour is a must-do for any beer lover, but especially someone who wants to see a macro brewery in action. Click through to read a tour guide and see plenty of photos exploring the Clydesdales’ stables, the brewing facilities, and more #BudweiserTour #StLouis #BeerLovers #TravelGuide

We live near the Budweiser factory in Williamsburg, VA. While you can see the factory when you’re going in and out of Busch Gardens Williamsburg, the place is kind of like Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Other than the people who work there, no one gets in and no one comes out. Meaning: you can’t take a Budweiser tour, and only very rarely can you sample the beer made within the factory.

So, when David and I visited St. Louis recently for a wedding, we decided to visit another Anheuser Busch location was within minutes of our hotel. And because we love talking about beer, learning about beer and of course, drinking beer , we rallied our friends and headed over to actually see what the inside of a Budweiser factory looked like.

What we found was a highly interactive tour with lots of knowledge on how a macro brewery works, great views of beer being made in mass quantities and plenty of samples along the way . We enjoyed our time taking a Budweiser tour so much, that I wanted to write down everything you need to know, including a walkthrough of the tour, so you can enjoy your time at the St. Louis brewery.

What This Post Covers:

St. Louis Budweiser Tour & Brewery Information

At the St. Louis location, the options for Budweiser tours are endless. Choices range from a free tour of the facility to a tour solely focused on meeting the brand’s infamous Clydesdales and dalmatians, to a full-blown brewmaster’s tour. All tours explore some portion of the facility, and all tours (even the free one) have sampling opportunities for those 21+.

Tour options can change depending on the time of year, so make sure to check BudweiserTour.com to see what they are offering when you visit.

Budweiser Tour Options & Ticket Prices

There are multiple tour options for anyone who wants to explore the brewery. The most common tour is the “general” tour that is open to the public, doesn’t cost anything and runs every 30 minutes from

General Brewery Tour – This tour is free to the public and offered throughout the year. Of all tours this is the shortest, lasting only 45 minutes, and only gives a basic overview of the facility. This tour is free, but you can also reserve this tour ahead of time for $5 a person (but if you have the time, I’d spring an extra $5 a person and do the Day Fresh tour).

Day Fresh Tour – This tour is one step up from the free tour, lasting 75 minutes and journeying throughout the entire brewery. This was the tour we chose and what this blog post covers. We chose this tour over others because it wasn’t too long (only 75 minutes) and wasn’t too expensive (only $10 a person). For another four dollars, I also added a Budweiser-branded speed opener to our tour, which is a good (and cheap) souvenir.

Beer master Tour – This tour lasts two-plus hours and explores the brewery as a whole. Rather than just focusing on the facilities, this tour also focuses on the brewing process, showing participants how a macro brewery brews beer on a whole. The beer master tour is the most expensive option, coming in at $35/person. However, for the price, this tour includes the most samples, as well as a variety of gifts for being Budweiser’s guest.

Horses & Heritage Tour – This tour explores the most iconic part of the brewery (second to the beer): the Clydesdales and Dalmatians. This tour lets you see the animals up close, learning about why they are iconic and how keepers care for them at the St. Louis facility. The tour costs $25 but includes a sample at the end of the tour.

Budweiser Brewery Tour Location

Public transportation – Unfortunately, public transportation does not drop off near the brewery. If you don’t have a car or your own transportation, your best bet is taking an Uber/Lyft from your hotel to the brewery. However, pickup/drop-off from the brewery is easy, with an easy-to-access

Where Anheuser Busch is located in St. Louis – Anheuser-Busch is located in the Benton Park area of St. Louis, which is on the Mississippi River and about eight miles from the center of town itself. Anheuser-Busch is also located about three miles from the arch, so don’t expect to walk there as part of your St. Louis visit. However, there is a Budweiser outpost located a few blocks from the arch if you don’t want to visit the brewery itself.

Hours – Hours vary widely throughout the year, especially during the holidays. Rather than list them here, I highly recommend you visit the tour website to see when the brewery is open.

Budweiser Biergarten

For those who want a taste of the brewery without having to go on a tour (or who want another beer after the tour), Budweiser has a Biergarten on-premise. Open to the public, you do not need to attend a tour to drink or eat here. We found the Biergarten pleasant because it was filled with a wide variety of food, all either grilled, broiled or fried in Budweiser-branded beer (I don’t know about you, but I’m not going to turn down the chance to try a Budweiser-broiled brat ).

Honestly, we expected the food to be mediocre, as is the par for most chain-level restaurants. Instead, we found food that was fresh and really hit the spot after walking around for a little over an hour and a half. The place is treated as a European beer garden, so servers wander around, and you may get a variety of people helping you. Regardless, we found service to be quick and the beer and food to be fresh .

Budweiser Brewery Tour Overview – Day Fresh Tour

While we explored the Budweiser brewery, we were able to book tickets in advance to the Day Fresh tour. We highly enjoyed this tour, as it gave a succinct introduction to the brewery, while also giving a great glimpse into the macro-brewing process itself.

Why the Day Fresh Tour

If you’re on the fence as to what tour to visit, I highly recommend the Day Fresh tour. We picked this over others because it allowed for us to get through the brewery rather quickly (we were surprised at how efficient the tour was, landing us back at the entrance in almost exactly 70 minutes), but also doing it cheaply for only $10/person.

end of tour beer

What interested me in this tour over the others was the day-fresh beer you got on the tour. I was curious, especially on a macro level, to see if the beer tasted different (I won’t spoil your tour and tell you what it tasted like).

NOTE : Most tours are outside, so dress for the weather and wear comfortable shoes. You will walk the length of the Budweiser campus, but note that they do send a trolley to pick you up at the end and bring you back to the Biergarten.

Budweiser Lobby

As soon as we arrived, we were ushered into the Budweiser tour lobby. This area is complete with a tour check-in and a gift shop – and not much else. However, if you do arrive early, there are a few exhibits to browse through, making it easy to waste some time.

We tried to hop out to the beer garden to grab some beers to drink on the tour but were told that already-open beers were prohibited. Luckily, the beers we grabbed cost a very high price of $2/can, so we chugged what we could and were on our way towards the day fresh beer.

Clydesdale Stables

After they took our ticket stubs for our tour time, we were on our way. The first stop included a glimpse into the Clydesdale stables. One of the first facts that our tour guide told us was that the Budweiser Clydesdales traveled an average of 300 days a year! As a human, I’m exhausted thinking about that, much less as a horse.

This location is one of two where the horses are housed in the country and the only one that is encased in brick and stained glass (there is a chandelier in the center of the stables that was built in 1885 and weighed over 700 pounds). Each of the horses’ livery is custom-made to their bodies, and horses that are chosen to be part of the fleet are picked based on an extremely strict list of qualifications.

We were able to meet a few Clydesdales that weren’t on travel, including a sweet horse named Bruce. However, I will note that as soon as we were ushered into the stable to meet Bruce, we were also ushered into the tour’s photo opp. We (begrudgingly) grabbed a photo and then explored the stables.

While we waited for the photo, this area also had exhibits explaining the brewery’s history with Clydesdales and Dalmatians. Once we entered, we were also able to take a look at the location’s collection of Budweiser carriages, including one that carried beer in the 1800s.

Beer Production areas

Once we explored the brewery’s stables, we were then led to the beer production areas. The first place we were able to see was the aging cellar – complete with St. Louis’ iconic “Gloria” tank that supposedly helped the Blues win the Stanley Cup.

FUN FACT : Each brew tank holds over 1.2 million 12-oz beers. If you started to drink today from the brew tank, it would take you drinking one beer an hour for the next ~130+ years to drink all of the beer held in the tank.

After the aging cellar, you were then brought to the mash tank. To help the crushed grain turn in to sugar, this room was 30+ degrees warmer than outside, meaning that our tour guide rushed us through quickly, so we didn’t get hot. This was a quick spot on the tour and after this, we moved to the bottling room itself.

The bottling area is held in a building called BEVO and indicated by a fox sitting on the outside (who is also called by the same name). When we visited BEVO was down for maintenance, so we didn’t get to see any beer being bottled. However, they stated that this location does more than Budweiser and Bud Light and is known to bottle a wide variety of Budweiser-branded brews such as Elysian or Shock Top.

After visiting BEVO, we went back down to street level and hopped on to a trolley that brought us back to the start of the tour. We even noted amongst our group that the tour itself took an almost exact 75 minutes, leaving us to enjoy our complimentary 16 oz. beer in the beer garden.

Beer Sampling Opportunities on the Day Fresh Budweiser Tour

There were plenty of opportunities for beer samples and fresh beer on the day fresh tour. Our first sample came right after the stables and before we went up to see the mash tanks (anyone who was under 30 had to show ID before entering the building). In here, you were given the chance to try either Budweiser or Bud Light (and some enterprising few took both samples).

After exploring the mash tank (you had to throw your sample away before heading up), you then venturing to the BEVO building. From there, you headed up to the bottling facility, and we were then presented with an opportunity to taste either Bud Light or Stella Artois Cidre (they told us the sampling options vary based on what was available that day).

After the BEVO tour, we were then allowed to pluck our day fresh beer of Bud Light out of the cases sitting right next to the door. We were told that the beer had been bottled between 3 a.m. and 6 a.m. that day. While this was the end of the tour, and we boarded a trolley from here, we were brought back to an outdoor bar, where we could select any 16 oz. Budweiser beer of our choice (from Bud Light and Budweiser to Shock Top, Kona Golden Wave to Elysian, Bud Amberbock and Stella Artois).

Overall, for our $10 ticket price, we were presented with two samples of beer, a day fresh Bud Light, and one full Budweiser beer of our choosing. For the money, I think I not only got it back when it came to samples, but I definitely felt I got my worth in terms of the tour itself. We finished our tour off by sipping our beers (and having a few more) in the beer garden. Because of the value presented, I would highly recommend this Budweiser tour over others, as I felt it gave you a quick, but wide-variety of chances to both sample and explore the Budweiser campus.

Would I take the Budweiser Tour again?

Meh. Maybe I would, maybe I wouldn’t. Honestly, I found St. Louis to be a city that was rather conquerable in just a few days. So, I don’t think I’d even go back to St. Louis if given the opportunity. BUT if I did find myself there, then I might find myself back at the brewery; but I would not take a tour again and would probably only grab a beer or two in the Biergarten. Rather, I can see myself trying out the local craft beer scene (of which there was plenty in St. Louis and none of which we got to try except for Schlaflys , but only at the airport).

However, I do think that the tour is worth going once, especially if you want to see a macro brewery (which is a rare thing with all of the microbreweries around the country now). The best part of the tour was the free samples and getting to try a “day fresh” beer, and I will probably share that fun fact with anyone who orders a Bud Light within my vicinity in the near future.

Is this tour kid friendly and for people who don’t drink ? Also do you have to pay separate for the horses and brewery tour or is it in one purchase ticket price ? Thanks in advance

Ooh, good questions! This tour is 100% friendly to those who don’t drink. They certainly do not push alcohol on you and it really isn’t even a big part of the tour. In terms of kid-friendly, I would say that it is, but I would also say that there is a fair amount of walking, so I would make sure that your kids are comfortable with that. Please note that the tour I am reviewing above is different than the ‘Horses & Heritage Tour’ which is I think a bit more specific to the history of the site (and the animals!) and less about the alcohol. But the one we did, we still got to see a horse, so it all comes down to what you are looking for. Please let me know how your tour is!!!

Ok, technically this is not really a beer tour. But when you go on a pub crawl , you’ll get every chance to savour Belgium’s different beer types , so it still belongs on this list.

If you are a solo traveler looking to meet new friends, you’ll definitely enjoy this pub crawl. When traveling on your own, you may not get discounts from breweries and taverns in Brussels.

However, with a group of other solo travelers, the tour package by Brussels Pub Crawl will give you access to distinct discounts that will allow you to enjoy more beer flavors from far more locally exquisite brewers and taverns during your visit.

Amazing experience! I would definitely recommend it, especially for people traveling alone! Everyone was extremely friendly and the tour guide was amazing! Sergio_R, Jan 2023 ( SEE MORE REVIEWS )

⭐ RATING: 4.6/5 ( 58 reviews ) | ⏳ TOUR LENGTH: 1 hour 15 minutes | 💰 CHECK PRICE

This Brussels beer tour offers an interactive course that will help you understand Belgian beer more deeply.

The workshop teaches you how beers should be tasted to get the best of the flavour that every mixture offers.

Taking this course will certainly allow you to indulge in the beer-tasting adventure that you may experience at the pub crawl.

We loved it because it exceeded our expectations. In addition to getting to know a lot better about how to taste a beer, it was really cool because we made friends and after the event we all went to dinner and have fun in the bars of Brussels. It was soooo much fun!! bruno, dec 2019 ( see more reviews )

The Brussels beer-tasting option gives you the option to fall in love and embrace the Belgian culture even if you are visiting just for one night.

Why is Belgium famous for beer?

Belgium’s fame in beer-making stems from its rich history and culture dating back centuries, where Belgian monks were among the first to brew beer (and they continue to produce highly sought-after beers in their Trappist monasteries).

Belgian brewers have also developed unique beer styles and brewing techniques.

UNESCO recognizes Belgium’s beer culture’s importance , with almost 1,500 types of beer produced in the country, using different fermentation methods, and 304 active breweries, including international companies and traditional breweries.

Belgium boasts around 700 taste profiles and 1,100 beer brands, with one of the world’s most expensive beers, la Vieille Bon Secours, produced by the Caulier brewery.

Why is Belgian beer so good?

Belgian beer’s exceptional taste and unique characteristics come from the use of a range of ingredients such as herbs, fruits, and distinctive yeasts.

The mastery behind the brewing process, which combines centuries of knowledge with modern technology, also contributes to its complex flavor profiles.

Belgian beer is often fermented twice, which adds to its depth of flavor and character.

Belgian beer is also known for its rich culture and traditions, with many cities having a strong café culture where visitors can sample different beers.

In fact, many of Belgium’s towns & cities have their own signature beer.

Scottie Scheffler’s beer story, how Nelly Korda changed | Monday Finish

Nelly Korda is a major champion again after Sunday's Chevron Championship.

Getty Images

Welcome back to the Monday Finish, where we’re further from World No. 1 than ever. To the golf news!

GOLF STUFF I LIKE

Nelly Korda, Scottie Scheffler and what’s different.

Late on Sunday night I got a call back from Nelly Korda ‘s coach Jamie Mulligan . He was at the Houston airport, sipping on a celebratory beverage, dried off from his plunge into (the new) Poppie’s Pond but still soaked in the secondhand satisfaction of a dream delivered. That’s what Korda’s Sunday win — her fifth in a row and the second major of her career — amounted to. A dream.

“It’s everything that I’ve always wanted as a little girl, to lift that major trophy,” Korda said Sunday evening.

Mulligan has worked with Korda for several years, which is why I’d messaged him asking a simple, impossible question: what’s the difference? Korda was an excellent golfer a couple years ago, but she wasn’t like this . What’s changed?

“There isn’t really a difference,” he said. “More simplicity in her own bubble is all. But it’s the same thing. Cleaner, more efficient.”

He cited Korda’s shots coming home, protecting a dwindling lead. The short iron into the par-3 17th. The drive and second into the finishing par-5. The way they’d demanded different things and the way she’d delivered.

“Imagine a ship,” Mulligan continued. “She’s been throwing stuff off the ship. Anything she didn’t need. And right now the ship is cruising along pretty good.”

MULLIGAN’S LINE REMINDED ME of a different description from a different person about a different golfer. That was Max Homa on men’s No. 1 Scottie Scheffler , who was on the doorstep of victory at the RBC Heritage before play was called for the day on Sunday night.

“Scottie is tremendously talented and a hard worker and sadly, a better person,” Homa said. “I wish I could hate him. But it’s not utterly shocking what he does. He just does it over and over and over again. That’s amazing. I feel like he almost makes it seem very realistic that we should do that. He just seems like he’s playing on the driving range every day.”

There’s more to be said of this current professional golfing moment, particularly the two golfers — Korda and Scheffler — in the midst of historic runs. There’s more to be said of the fact that Korda has won five in a row and Scheffler has won four of five and finished runner-up in that fifth. Of the way this very rarely happens on either the LPGA or PGA Tour and right now it’s happening on both. Of the way it’s happening against the backdrop of a pro game mired in toxic discourse, with our focus too often centered on money and ratings and that dreaded phrase the product and not often enough on excellence. Of the way they’re making their competitors look flawed and ordinary. That’s what excellence does. This weekend was excellence continued. That’s worth celebrating. That’s golf stuff we like.

[OTHER] WINNERS

Who else won the week?

Max Homa’s Masters moment

Before the bad moment came a good moment.

Last week Max Homa was in contention for the first time in any major, ever. This wasn’t just any major and it wasn’t just any contention; Homa was in second place at the Masters and he was hitting arguably its most iconic shot, the tee shot at No. 12, knowing he had a chance to win. The ball flew the green, hit the worst spot it could have and bounded forward into the ivy, setting up a double bogey that would all but eliminate him from contention.

That was the bad moment.

But how ’bout the good one?

“Walking on Sunday from 11 green to 12 tee,” Homa said at the RBC this week. “I had a good buddy of mine remind me going into Saturday that I need to look around and smell the roses and appreciate what I get to do because I’ve seen some not-so-great parts of professional golf. So I was very aware on the weekend to smile. Joe [Homa’s caddie] kept reminding me this is the most fun we’ve ever had. Appreciate that and then get back to work.

“I tried every day to walk up to that 12th tee with my eyes up and look around and scan the crowd. I got basically like a standing ovation walking to that tee, and I just tried to stare as it as long as I could and enjoy it. We got it on Saturday, as well. Just something about walking to that 12th tee is pretty amazing feeling.”

Your moments are what you decide they are, I guess. Homa chose well.

Scheffler’s tavern trip

Scottie Scheffler said he surprised himself on Masters Sunday when he woke up and realized just how much he wanted to win. He wished he felt differently. Who needs more pressure? Luckily he won anyway.

“It’s kind of weird living through those times in your life where you’ve dreamt about having moments like that and then all of a sudden they’re happening,” he said, speaking to an audience of media members who have very likely not approached that specific sports feeling. “So Sunday was really fun just to kind of have some good friends and celebrate and enjoy the moment. Those are guys that we’ve walked through a lot of stuff over the last eight to ten years or so, and so it was very special, all of us getting to be together and celebrating something great happening together.”

His return home to Dallas — and to his wife Meredith , in her ninth month of pregnancy — culminated in a trip to Inwood Tavern in Dallas. The media’s focus on the imminent arrival of his first child, he said, was overblown. Instead, Meredith led the charge to the town. She picked ’em up.

“I don’t know if I’d actually been to that place before,” Scheffler said of Inwood. He’d been to a bar around the corner but that one wasn’t open (“shockingly,” Scheffler said) at 1:30 a.m. Monday morning.

“So on the plane ride home, I was with my manager Blake and my coach Randy and then I had four of my good buddies with me, and I don’t remember who suggested it, but it seemed like a good idea, and when Meredith picked us up at the airport it still seemed like a good idea, and Meredith was down, so we went for probably 20 minutes and went home. Took a few photos, had a drink and then went home and went to bed,” Scheffler said.

“That was more for Meredith, and then it was like, okay, it closes at 2:00. I think Meredith finished her Heineken Zero and it was like, now we can go.”

The chip on Wyndham Clark’s shoulder

If Monday finishes the way Sunday finished, Wyndham Clark will, for the third time this young season, end up in second place behind Scottie Scheffler . Clark doesn’t seem like a golfer particularly interested in consolation prizes, but still — this one felt good. It came on the heels of a disappointing Masters missed cut. It came via final-round 65. And it came on a golf course he heard doubters say he couldn’t play.

“I feel like I’ve worked so hard at my game to be able to play at any golf course, and so you come to a place like Harbour Town and yes, it is not a bomber’s golf course, but I would like to think my game is more refined than just being someone that hits it far and then wedges it somewhat close and plays the par-5s good,” Clark said. “Yeah, so courses like this kind of give me a little chip on my shoulder to try to go prove that I can play any kind of golf course and I can be really accurate and hit it straight and do things like that.”

Mission accomplished. But still room for improvement.

Maja Stark, water-dodger

I particularly liked this quote from Chevron runner-up Maja Stark , who was just proud she hadn’t made a splash.

“I don’t think I’ve hit a ball in the water this week, and there’s so much water,” she said. “It used to be like, there was a magnet to the water for my ball before because I would just say, ooh, don’t go there, and then I would mess up and go there.”

But not this week. Stark hung around the lead with a steady Sunday start, making pars on each of the first 12 holes. Then she made birdie on three of the final six. It wasn’t enough. But it was by far the best finish of the young Swede’s major career. Stark and countrywoman Linn Grant are each 24; Ludvig Åberg is, too, fresh off a major runner-up finish of his own. The Swedes are doing something right. Like avoiding the water.

This shot…

Jasmine Koo is an 18-year-old amateur. She performed admirably at the Chevron, finishing T13. But she wouldn’t have been quite so high on the leaderboard were it not for this particularly special brand activation:

Wait for it.. Jasmine Koo BOUNCES it out of the water 🤯 pic.twitter.com/JCkiAW9fOf — LPGA (@LPGA) April 21, 2024

NOT-WINNERS

Not their week.

Tom Hoge and his costly 9

Rain and wind and dark came to Hilton Head and players finished up their final rounds in less-than-ideal weather, desperate for a clean finish and desperate not to have to return Monday morning. But into the wind, No. 18 is a brute, and as the afternoon wore on the scoring average skyrocketed.

Enter Tom Hoge .

Hoge stepped to the 18th tee at 14 under par for the tournament and hoping for a top-five result. Instead? Hoge hit his first tee shot out of play. He hit his eventual approach shot into the hazard, too. Before long Hoge was staring down a four-footer for triple bogey. He missed it, tapped in for 9 and walked around shaking hands, shell-shocked.

Hoge’s inside the top 20 in the FedEx Cup standings. He’s made plenty of money. But still, working for 71 holes for a top-five finish at a Signature Event only to eject on the 72nd and finish in a 10-way tie for 18th has to hurt. It’ll cost him in the neighborhood of a half-million dollars. It’ll cost him big-time points. You get the idea: Not the way you’d like to finish your weekend.

Nick Dunlap’s pro start

Of course Nick Dunlap was going to turn pro. He’d been a member of Alabama’s golf team, sure. But then he joined golf history by winning the American Express as an amateur and earning his way into the PGA Tour’s Signature Events for the rest of the year.

So how’s it going since then? Not that great. He finished last in his next start at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. He missed the cut at the Genesis Invitational. He finished T48 at Bay Hill and missed the cut at the Players Championship. Then he missed the cut at the Masters, too, before finishing in last place at Hilton Head this week. He slipped in a T11 finish at the Houston Open, but the Siggies aren’t going great.

What’s the point? Nothing, really, except that it’s tough out here. There are different pressures to the pro game. Different cadences. A promising golf game doesn’t promise much week in, week out. We’ll see plenty more of Dunlap in the coming years, I’m sure. It just hasn’t come easy since that first wild win.

Rory and the gang

Rory McIlroy remains the second-ranked golfer in the world. But that really just means he’s the leader of a pack of golfers thoroughly outclassed by Scheffler. Still, there’s hope. McIlroy finished outside the top 30 at Hilton Head and offered an explanation of why he’s enjoying golf when it’s both dispiriting and encouraging at the same time.

“I think [I’m enjoying] the challenge more than anything else,” he said. “Don’t feel like I’m quite on top of my game. But I’m determined to sort of get on top of it. Yeah, I’m liking the challenge at the minute and liking trying to figure it out.”

In particular McIlroy mentioned his iron play, which felt lacking in comparison to playing partner Ludvig Aberg on Thursday and Friday.

“I’m hitting the ball pretty good off the tee,” he said. “And look, I see signs that the iron play is getting a little bit better, but it’s just not — playing with someone like Ludvig who is completely in control of his game at the minute, yeah, I just need to get a little bit more in control, and if I do that, then I’m going to be a bit more sure of myself and make more committed swings.

“At the minute, it’s just — it’s a process, but I’m working at it.”

Monday Finishes

Unlike this column, Monday Finishes on Tour are best avoided. So why didn’t the PGA Tour move up tee times to dodge impending bad weather? How’d we get here? Some combination of preferred TV window and overly optimistic meterorology. Here was the explanation from Gary Young, the Tour’s SVP of Rules and Competitions:

“The golf course was really very dry. We felt that could handle it easily. It actually held up very well through the rain that we got, but it was really the thunder and lightning that put us down. We did not expect that. Our meteorologist Stewart Williams felt that the front would be to our south when we came in in the morning, so we would be on the cooler side of the front, and it would keep the probability of thunderstorms down quite a bit.

“Unfortunately when we arrived this morning, the front had stalled to our north, which kept us on the warmer side and allowed for the temperatures to warm up, and of course late in the day we saw the thunderstorms develop.”

They sure did.

THE PERFECT PAIRING

Have you ever experienced the feeling of pure bliss that results from two of your favorite things coming together just perfectly? If you don’t know what we’re talking about, you’ll definitely understand when you sign up for the popular Humm Beer Tasting Tours, comin’ in hot from Stellar Adventures and O.H.S.O. Brewery & Distillery.

THE HUMM BEER TASTING TOURS

Let’s break this down into the two (totally perfect and amazing on their own) parts: The H1 Hummer Tour and the O.H.S.O. Brewery & Distillery Tour.

FIRST UP: THE H1 HUMMER.

If you don’t know, now you know: The H1 is the best match for the ruggedness of desert terrain. It easily scales vertical walls nearly 2 feet high, can ascend a 60° incline with ease, and can ford a gushing rapid 2 and a half feet deep. There’s a reason the United States Army deploys and transports its troops in the Hummer—this ride is big, bold, and badass. Mud, gravel, water, boulders—they’re no match for the H1 Hummer.

NOW LET’S TALK BEER.

Once you’ve wrapped up your stint on the trails, get ready to party! O.H.S.O. Brewery & Distillery is an Arizona institution, a sacred ground for Sun Devils, tourists, and locals alike! Although they’re best known for 9 mainstays on tap, they’ve got tons of other offerings as well! You’ll love every minute at O.H.S.O Brewery & Distillery, which will include a beer sampler complemented by incredible food pairings. And we don’t want to brag, but let’s just say we’ve tried them all. Some of them we’ve sampled two or three times, just to be safe.

One of our favorite things about teaming up with  O.H.S.O Brewery & Distillery  is that it’s a great way to showcase how multifaceted Arizona is. We’re not just a world-class destination with stunning desert views and top-rated tours; we also have a vibrant culinary scene. When you sign up for our Humm Beer tasting tours, you’re guaranteed to get a taste of all that Arizona has to offer!

The H1 Hummer and O.H.S.O. Brewery & Distillery. Name a more iconic duo… We’ll wait.

Stellar adventure begins where the pavement ends!

WANT A LITTLE MORE CONTROL?

Good news! The beer and food part takes place at the end of the tour, and we take care of getting you back to your hotel. Do you prefer to be in the driver’s seat? If so, how does the front of an ATV or UTV sound? With this unique option, you’re in charge! Simply select your vehicle option when booking your tour .

HUMM BEER TOUR – COME ONE, COME ALL!

Remember, you don’t have to be a tourist to kick it with Stellar Adventures. This company is locally owned and operated, and we love connecting with our year-round (aka diehard) Arizona peeps. You might be a local, but we can probably show you a thing or two you didn’t know about your own backyard!
