An absolutely wonderful show, played multiple encore songs and was amazing with the crowd. I am extremely excited to see them play again in the future and look forward to new material by them.
AMAZING. Me and my husband had a blast. This is his favorite band. And we were so close to the stage getting the most out of the experience. And that kid Ryan with the violin. Made it all worth it.

Album review: Hail the Sun – Divine Inner Tension
- August 15, 2023
Genre-benders Hail the Sun are back with their newest—and sixth—full-length record, Divine Inner Tension. Their last record New Age Filth released back in 2021 to rave reviews from fans and critics alike, making their follow-up record a highly anticipated one. Well, the wait is finally over.
With Divine Inner Tension, Hail the Sun merges elements from pop-punk with their usual post-hardcore sound. The album kicks off with “Tunnel Vision Alibi,” a very intricately guitar-woven song. Dueling back and forth, the guitarists Shane Gann and Aric Garcia take cues from each other, creating a layer that can only be described as a guitar opera. Following, “Mind Rider,” though equally as guitar-prevalent spotlights John Stirrat’s impressive bassline that is both equal parts fun and throbbing. In fact, the bridge of the song sees the bass—and guitars—go bilateral, the sound panning from ear-to-ear.
With “Chunker,” it almost feels like Gann and Garcia get paid by the note. At a speedy tempo, “Chunker” really shows off the incredible stamina from both guitarists. The outro fades out to a muffled sound as if underwater, before transitioning to “60 Minute Session Blocks.” Drummer Allen Casillas takes the limelight with his complex sticking, set against the pounding, merciless kick drum.
Strangely, single “Maladapted” sees an odd and abrupt transition from the previous song. That being said, it helps capture the essence of this chaotic song. Voice wracked with pain, singer Donovan Malero howls, “The more I give up, the better I feel.” The song became an immediate fan-favorite, shocking the members of the band who had anticipated “Under the Floor” or “60 Minute Session Blocks.” Though those two songs are impressive in their own right, it’s no mystery why “Maladapted” has been such a hit because of its haunting breakdown that feels vaguely reminiscent of the Used.
Tackling the topics of betrayal and abuse, “The Story Writes Itself” varies its tempo throughout, possibly symbolizing the stages of anger—more than present in the song. Malero sings, “By the way, be afraid. ‘Cuz I’ll only stay silent when dead.” Harmonically, the song reaches its climax as Malero screams amidst a haunting choir’s vocalizations, juxtaposing each other in a way that shouldn’t work, but it does.
Interestingly enough, the next two songs of the record exist as sister songs: “(In My Dream)” and “I Saw You Hanging.” The pair also starts an elongated motif present throughout the remainder of the record, specifically eyes and how they can express us much more than words can. Dark and moody, “(In My Dream)” tells a melancholic story as Malero describes a corpse. “Your eyes would follow me…The pupils were engulfing,” he sings. With “I Saw You Hanging” listeners get the full story because that’s what these two songs do; they tell a cohesive story. Perhaps the defining moment of the entire song occurs when Malero sings, “Bless the people who never wake.”
Without a doubt, “Tithe” is the standout of the record. Offering a scathing critique of the Church’s various child sex abuse scandals—all of which have been covered up—“Tithe” features a non-traditional song structure amidst the falling fire and brimstone of Malero’s lyrics. He screeches, “There’s no excuse for the crimes of the church. Keep it hidden with the children they hurt.” Malero doesn’t hold back, especially considering he adds a trip-tracked vocal layer about halfway through. “And if you think the heavens chose you to lead, then you can do nothing wrong.” Really, the entire song deserves to be quoted, but you get the point.
They say, “The eyes are the windows to the soul.” After listening to “Feeble Words,” it appears that Malero agrees with the sentiment. At its core, the song speaks to the fact that words can’t always accurately describe the way in which we feel, but our eyes can speak for us.
The record comes to a grand close with “Under the Floor,” a harrowing song that endeavors to give a spotlight to the victims of John Wayne Gacy Jr, the Clown Killer. References to the horrendous and torture his victims experienced are made throughout. This isn’t exactly the band’s first time writing a song about true-crime. “Black Serotonin” tells the story of Amanda Knox, while “Disappearing Syndrome” speaks to the case of Elisa Lam.
Divine Inner Tension exists as an exceptional addition to Hail the Sun’s ever-growing discography—a discography whose quality only seems to increase with every release.

ALBUM REVIEW: Divine Inner Tension – Hail The Sun
Californian progressive outfit HAIL THE SUN have consistently impressed with their seemingly boundless creativity throughout their storied career. 2021’s New Age Filth further cemented their status as one of the genre’s top acts and their eagerly awaited sixth full-length effort Divine Inner Tension , which is due for release on August 11th via Rude Records / Equal Vision Records , is poised to follow suit.
Tunnel Vision Alibi commences in a typically energised fashion with punchy drum/guitar combos and the smooth, melodic tones of frontman/drummer Donovan Melero . A powerful narrative sets the bar particularly high for what is to follow. Mind Rider brings forth some ridiculously infectious rhythms that you will be subconsciously humming along to days and weeks later. The dynamic shifts in tempo keep you alert. Chunker unleashes the technical flair we all know HAIL THE SUN possess with flourishes of expert riff sequences. Distinct punk undertones flow throughout giving this track an effortlessly accessible quality.
60-Minute Session Blocks displays a spacey, shimmering soundscape packed with pockets of energy that burst through the membrane. The melodies are so sleek and inviting that they casually seep into your ears with minimal persuasion. Maladapted gets the adrenaline pumping as it meticulously layers varying tones and moods to craft a wealth of euphoric sensations. The Story Writes Itself sustains this passion and vigour, pouring it generously into the buoyant instrumentation.
(In My Dream) offers up a bass-driven, dramatic snippet that serves as an introduction to I Saw You Hanging . The eccentric, quirky prose is fascinating and haunting in equal measure, partly due to the dark subject matter. Tithe opts for a lower tuning and a heavy, aggressive demeanor. Commanding screams and a charged drumming performance definitely leave a lasting impression.
Feeble Words is quite a contrast by comparison, allowing for a moment to catch your breath as the clean, graceful tones wash over you. Little Song proves to be anything but its understated namesake, kicking into gear with an additional round of sprightly riffing. Twists and turns aplenty and even a round of blast beats are thrown into the kitchen sink. Under The Floor has no intention of vacating the premises in a quiet fashion, instead choosing to power through waves of intense musicality scattered amongst the ever-present melody.
At this stage of their career HAIL THE SUN have already got their feet firmly planted under the table but there is still no room for complacency within their compositions. Divine Inner Tension is packed full of exciting textures and thought-provoking lyrical passages that are confidently executed. This effort is sure to be a firm favourite amongst their existing fanbase and also a perfect opportunity for newcomers to acquaint themselves.
Rating: 9/10
Divine Inner Tension is due for release on August 8th via Rude Records/Equal Vision Records.

“We are ecstatic to finally get the opportunity to work with the family at Equal Vision Records. Our relationship has been a long time in the making, and it is like a dream come true to be able to call ourselves part of the team,” states Being As An Ocean vocalist Joel Quartuccio of the band’s recent signing announcement. “Ever since we met Dan Sandshaw, EVR’s president, we knew that the label’s ethos and passion for the music was akin to our own and that we didn’t want to settle for anything less. We are eternally grateful to EVR for sticking it out through the years with us to see this beautiful partnership to fruition.”
“Being As An Ocean is one of my favorite bands and I’m honored to have them join our family,” shares Sandshaw. “I look forward to working with them on inspiring new music filled with love, hope and compassion.”
The San Diego, CA-based outfit – comprised Quartuccio, vocalist/guitarist Michael McGough, guitarist Tyler Ross, and bassist Ralph Sica – announced their signing in February 2016, alongside the release of “Dissolve” – a stunning new song and music video that premiered via Alternative Press. The new single was recorded in Atlanta, GA at Glow In The Dark Studios with producer Matt McCllellan (Better Off, Capsize) and takes Being As An Ocean in a more hook-driven direction while still incorporating the band’s signature sound of sophisticated storytelling woven over lush, ambient soundscapes. The unique juxtaposition of Joel Quartuccio’s gritty, impassioned vocal work and Michael McGough’s gracefully soaring vocals creates a distinct blend that is both captivating and cathartic.
“‘Dissolve’ has been about 3-4 months in the making, being written over one of our longest timelines, and we think it is one of our best yet. We, simply, have never had the time to make something this special before, and I think it really shows,” reveals Quartuccio.
To date, Being As An Ocean has released three full-lengths, the latest of which – a self-titled album released last year – found impressive Billboard Chart placements including: No. 3 Vinyl Album, No. 7 Hard Rock Album, No. 11 Independent Album, No. 15 Internet Album, No. 17 Alternative Album, No. 25 Top Rock Album and No. 72 Top Current Album. The band will record their fourth full-length album later this year.
Since their inception in 2012, the band has built up up a massive and devoted following all around the world, through relentless touring and a powerful presence on social media. In 2014, the band was noted by Bandsintown as one of the top touring artists for having performed 187 shows throughout the year; And in 2015 they won the award for Best Underground Band at the Alternative Press Music Awards, beating out the massively impressive fellow nominees of State Champs, Knuckle Puck, Major League, Tigers Jaw and The Hotelier in the fan voted category. Being As An Ocean has toured and shared stages with the likes of August Burns Red, Silverstein, Amity Affliction, Defeater, Stick To Your Guns, Architects UK and more.
“In 2016, our listeners and fans should expect a lot of amazing tours, more and more singles, and a band, full of best friends, excited and ready to make this year one of the best that Being As An Ocean has ever had.”
HAIL THE SUN Announce North American Tour Dates
Following the release of their album New Age Filth this past April, HAIL THE SUN have announced they’ll be touring in support of the record this fall across North America. Presented by Equal Vision Records , the tour will also feature the openers Kaonashi , who will release their debut album on May 21st via EVR, as well as Kurt Travis and Body Thief .
When HAIL THE SUN entered the studio to record what would become New Age Filth , they knew they were setting out to make their most collaborative and diverse album yet. Consisting of Donovan Melero (vocals/drums), Aric Garcia (guitar), John Stirrat (bass) and Shane Gann (guitar), the band spent a month living in an apartment attached to producer Kris Crummett ’s (A Lot Like Birds, Nova Charisma, Dance Gavin Dance) studio which provided a much different experience from the creation of prior albums. The ten songs on New Age Filth showcase the band’s post-hardcore roots blended with elements of alternative and progressive rock, proving the band’s ability to be extremely technical in instrumentation while also unleashing some of the catchiest hooks they’ve ever created. The lyrics, penned by Melero, center around the theme of reflection, weaving through painful and emotional experiences of love, cynicism, and touching on how awful humans can be to one another.
Having sold through nine vinyl variants of the album and seeing an overwhelming response from fans and critics alike since the release of the album, New Age Filth marks a milestone for HAIL THE SUN . As they prepare to hit the stage performing these songs for the first time live, they are eager to give their audience a dynamic and memorable experience.

‘All hail broke loose,’ driver cries after car is destroyed and garage and driveway badly damaged in surprise storm
- Ben Shimkus , Motors Staff Reporter

NATURE unleashed its fury on drivers and homeowners as an hours-long hail storm shattered windshields and dented garages.
Drivers in South Carolina said they had to peer through shards of damaged windshield glass while cruising to work during the storm.
"That is insane," Austin Jefferson, a resident in Rock Hill, said while filming the damage to his Ford F-150, according to Fox Weather .
A hail storm ripped through Jefferson's town while he was scheduled to run his catering business at a nearby wedding.
Jefferson said the hail grew as the storm swirled over the community.
"We thought it was supposed to be a little bit of rain," Jefferson said.

"What I thought would be a quick thunderstorm quickly turned into a hail storm."
The National Weather Service said the community endured 70 to 90 mph winds.
Golf-ball-sized hail rained down on the community, smashing windows and denting pavement.
Jefferson said he rushed to find a shovel to remove the storm's remnants from his driveway.

Before the storm, he had opened his garage door to move all of the catering materials into the truck.
But the falling ice dented his garage, forcing the pickup driver to rip the door down manually.
"I was telling all my friends, 'All hail broke loose,'" he said.
"I had to stop what I was doing to find a shovel."
After his driveway was cleared, Jefferson noticed his pickup's windshield was cracked in several places.
But he still had to make it to the wedding.
"I was driving as slow as I could," he said.
"There were trees down in the road to get to my house. I just did what I had to do to get the catering to them."

Jefferson took pictures of a hail fog that swept the community after the storm.
Hail fog is a rare weather occurrence when warm, moist air rises rapidly from the ground into colder air.
As the warm, moist air rises and reaches colder temperatures, it condenses into water droplets and creates a thick fog.
Hail fog can significantly restrict driver visibility.
The hail damage mainly occurred in Rock Hill, with the driver saying, "Our side was hit the worst."
He said it took several days to clear the remnants of hail from his home.
Mechanics suggested a few solutions if drivers find themselves stuck in a hail storm.
They said drivers can shield their windows with blankets or car mats if a garage is not available.

THIS is a Red Alert – Basement Jaxx are back.
The Brit electronic duo, who are behind a string of massive hits including Romeo, Where’s Your Head At and Good Luck, are gearing up for a series of special live shows to celebrate their 30th anniversary.
DJs Felix Buxton and Simon Ratcliffe last released an album a decade ago, and while I’m told new music is not around the corner right now, it could be on the cards if their live dates are a success.
A source said: “Basement Jaxx got their name because of the club nights they put on in Brixton in 1994.
“They didn’t release their debut album for another five years but for Felix and Simon, this year celebrates 30 years from where their music first started.
“They are planning in the coming weeks to announce a handful of massive shows to mark the milestone.

“Last year Basement Jaxx only played a couple of times in the UK , and this will give fans more of a chance to see a full live show.
“It is massive for Felix and Simon and they’re really excited about what they have planned.
“If the shows are as successful as they think they might be, they could start working on some new music which would be really special.
“It’s something they’ve been talking about for a while.”

Basement Jaxx are the soundtrack to my teens — and my half-arsed Couch To 5K attempts — so I’ll be first in line when tickets go on sale.
And as for new music, I’d really love to hear some.
In 2019, Simon revealed he had spoken to Felix about getting back in the studio.
He said: “I think it’s time to get on and do some Basement Jaxx tunes — we both feel quite refreshed and ready for the next phase.
“We’ve got a few tunes which need finishing and they should result in an album.
“There is going to be another Basement Jaxx album, definitely.”
Given the pandemic hit just months after Simon said this, I can imagine their hard work got put on the back burner.
But there’s no excuse now, surely lads.
GIRLS JUMP TO RESCUE
GIRLS Aloud released their hit The Loving Kind more than 15 years ago but they’re still living by that mantra.
The group has offered a hand of friendship to Years & Years singer Olly Alexander after the Eurovision Song Contest.
Olly has come under pressure from pro Palestine groups after announcing he would represent the UK with his song Dizzy.
They want him to drop out because of Israel’s inclusion in the competition.
And insiders told us that the girls Cheryl Tweedy , Kimberley Walsh , Nicola Roberts and Nadine Coyle , have reached out to Olly and invited him to join them on their reunion tour in a bid to boost his confidence.
A source said: “The girls have been close with Olly for some time and know how isolating it can be when scandal hits.
“They don’t think Olly has done anything wrong and behind the scenes have been making sure he is OK and letting him know he has their full support if he needs anything.
“Their tour kicks off in a few weeks and they have asked Olly if he would like to make a surprise appearance at one of the dates.
“The schedules are still being worked out but Girls Aloud and Olly are really keen to make it happen.
“He brought out Kimberley and Nicola during his Mighty Hoopla festival set last year and it went down a storm.
“They’d love to relive that moment on stage as a full group.
“They want Olly to get his bounce back and think him coming out to perform with them would be the perfect tonic.”
If this doesn’t put a smile back on Olly’s face, we’re not sure what will.
NOEL’S UP FUR A CAREER CHANGE
NOEL Fielding says he wants to move away from telly presenting and into fashion.
Chatting to me at designer Bella Freud’s birthday party last week, where he was wearing a snazzy pink coat, Noel said: “I would like to bring out my own fashion label. I would like to design fur coats and call it Friend or Fur.
“All I have got is the title, but I think it is enough. I love Bet Lynch. She was my biggest fashion influence.”
His garish fashion choices might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but the Bake Off host admitted he had got the seal of approval from Prue Leith – who he credited for some of his brighter outfits on the Channel 4 show.
Noel added: “Prue dresses amazing. She is all about trying to bring colour back She has got me on board.”
’Mayne man on Broadway
EDDIE Redmayne is the toast of Broadway – and he put on his jazziest outfit to celebrate.
The British actor has reprised his role as Emcee in Cabaret, which won him an Olivier Award for Best Actor in 2021 when he took on the part for the West End production.
Now he’s on Broadway and has critics raving about him, with one describing him as acting like an “otherworldly salamander” which is, apparently, a compliment.
OLLY ON FIGURING OUT FAKES
HE found his happy ending with Amelia Tank, but Olly Murs says he had to wade through gold-diggers like treacle before meeting her.
The couple, who had their daughter Madison last week , have been dating for four years and married last July.
Opening up about his struggle to find the right woman, Olly said: “In the early days I found dating really hard because it was about figuring out who actually wants to get to know me over the girls that were just wanting to be seen with me.
“Suddenly, there’s all these gorgeous Victoria’s Secret -vibe models around you and you’re like, ‘No man, this doesn’t feel right’.
“This wasn’t happening to me when I was a recruitment consultant.”
It is amazing what a bit of cash and a music career can do for you eh, Olly?
IT’S officially the year of the dragon , so it couldn’t be more fitting for Imagine Dragons to drop their seventh album.
The rockers announced last night that they will be bringing out Loom on June 28.
The nine-song record has been produced entirely by the band and their long-time collaborators, production duo Mattman and Robin.
I can’t wait to hear it.
TRICKSTER ANTHEM FOR KING
IT’S St George’s Day tomorrow and before we hang out the bunting and enjoy a few pints, we have got something that might help make you feel even more patriotic.
Austrian singer Trickster has recorded a new version of the National Anthem with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
The track is the first ever recorded for King Charles by a foreign national – but it sounds brilliantly British.
Trickster, real name Juergen Pichler, said: “I am Austrian, but I love the UK and I wanted to make something special.
“I hope that when he hears it, it brings some joy to King Charles, and of course the whole country.
“I have made rock songs, swing songs, pop songs and dance songs before but this is something new for me.”
Adele of a poor disguise
IT’S time to say Hello to Adele again. She’s been spotted for the first time in eight weeks, after cancelling her remaining residency shows in Las Vegas .
And it seems she knows pulling the plug will have made her a little unpopular with fans because she hid behind a clutch bag held over her face as she left a party at Soho House in Malibu.
Adele was photographed with her sports agent husband, Rich Paul, leaving music producer Lenny Santiago’s birthday bash, alongside fellow celebs including Jay Z and Kevin Hart.
I’m not surprised the singer is feeling a little camera-shy, after her fans hammered her for postponing her Vegas dates last month.
Despite telling them she was having to cancel the shows at Caesars as she was ill, they let rip when she made the announcement – which I’m sure only made her feel worse.
I’m not sure the bag-over-the-face routine is going to wash when they see she’s been out and about partying.
PETER AND ABBEY ARE McLOVIN’ IT
PETER Crouch is used to checking out Abbey Clancy’s buns.
But when he headed over to McDonald’s 360 immersive burger experience at Outernet in London, he got an eyeful of another kind of bap.
Pete and Abbey were VIP guests at the event, which gave Maccie’s fans the chance to go inside one of the fast-food chain’s famous burgers.
I am sure they were absolutely “lovin’ it” but I would rather eat the burgers than look at them.
Shak finds shades in the desert
WE’RE amazed Shakira could see anything at Coachella , given the size of her sunglasses.
The singer wore this enormous pair of futuristic shades as she partied at the US desert music festival.

Shakira put on biker boots, hot pants and a sleeveless long jacket to complete her look for the event, which saw singers including Doja Cat , Sabrina Carpenter and Lana Del Rey taking to the stage.
We’re sure the Colombian beauty enjoyed the sounds, just maybe not the sights.
