Our holiday to Singapore and Bali…

Our holiday to Singapore and Bali started not as smooth do the weather, but we did as much as we possibly can in Singapore even we miss a couple of days. The Goway agent Diana and Maria help us reorganize our tour.Bali was beautiful and a wonderful experience of the traditional and cultural. Our tour guide Asri was friendly and helpful we even brooks extra tour on our free day to explore Nusa island.the only one issue is dinner on the beach at Jimbaran we have dinner inside do to the rain also the server kind of neglect us at the end we waited for more then 1/2 hrs to get our bill . we have to go looking for help it kind of make our last day a bit annoying of the server because it wasn't even busy at that time.

Best travel experience ever

I don’t even know where to start with this review, as I have so many good things to say. Firstly the agent that I made contact with was wonderful. Receptive and responsive. He worked with me and my wishes and adapted it as needed. It was seamless. He responded quickly to questions etc. Before the trip I had phone calls double checking all documents etc was correct. Now for the trip. I have never been on a 3+ week with NO issues. The flights, the transfers( planes, buses, ferries), the guides and the accommodation. We had a 16 page itinerary- and it all went accordingly. Now with regards to the actual trip to Thailand. Being greeted at the airport by a guide who takes you to the hotel and helps you with check-in particularly when there’s a language barrier is extremely helpful , especially after you’ve just traveled 30 hours. The guides are knowledgeable and very friendly. The drivers were all on time , clean vehicles and safe driving. The excursions well planned and everything is done for you! Having the guide makes it all easy! All I can say is that I will for sure use this company again. I have always done my own travel arrangements- now I got used to this level of service I will not be able to do that anymore!

Last minute Multi-generational private tour of Rome/Sorrento

GoWay/Josie arranged a last minute multi-generational family of 8 to Rome/Sorrento for New Years. Clients were extremely happy with the quality of the hotels, and guides for their private tours. All the arrangements went off without a hitch. Goway made it all happen with only 8 weeks lead time.

This was for a trip to Antarctica.

This was for a trip to Falkland Islands, South Georgia islands and Antarctica through another provider. While in the end it was good experience, I did deal with three different agents over the booking period. this was frustrating at times and led to a couple of errors that were eventually caught in time, thankfully. My last agent was most helpful and prompt in refunding a transfer paid for that turned out not to be needed. The trip itself was excellent and I would highly recommend that provider again to anyone interested in an expedition type trip rather than a simple cruise.

Shout out to Pamela Robinson

I did not get to take the trip to Thailand that I was hoping to go on but I did want to give a shout out the Pamela Robinson who worked on the trip for me. Pamela is an amazing travel agent who works hard to provide customer satisfaction. She is very detailed oriented and goes above and beyond for her customers. Pamela was very understanding when I was not able to take the trip and promised to help me the next time I am traveling to Asia.

Africa- WOW, AMAZING!

Jumbo Africa! It was a trip of a lifetime and our experience was second to none! What made it so great? Well, a few things... First and foremost- the people involved in planning our trip, as well as our tour guide. We felt like we really hit the jack pot in our guide Christopher! Christopher Musyoka was an absolute gem! He absolutely made our trip! Christopher is very knowledgeable when it comes to all things Africa but really felt he had our best interest during our stay. We were with Christopher for nine days which is a lot of time to spend with a family. In our case it was a family of 6. Christopher was a stranger when we arrived and a family member when we were saying good-bye. We truly miss our daily game drives with Christopher! Thank you Christopher, Maureen, Jodi and team at Goway Travel! For any family wondering whether they should make the trek, this should be an absolute YES!

Every portion of the trip was as…

Every portion of the trip was as described. Tour guides were well informed, drivers were on time or early, their services were excellent. The scheduling was perfect, met all our expectations of what we wanted to see and do and also provided for sufficient ‘relaxation’ time to allow us to explore on our own and make the trip all the more enjoyable. Excellent accommodations and quality tours.

Goway did an amazing job with our Cairns to Brisbane road trip

Trip to Australia

The travel agent I worked with was great, my itinerary was arranged properly and I had no issues during my travels in Australia. The Adina/Vibe hotel in Darwin, while being a nice hotel and situated on the waterfront, is cut off from Darwin itself. I was not able to see anything of Darwin which is something that I like doing when I'm a visiting a new city.

Amazing guides

Definitely all the guides made the transfers and excursions that much more enjoyable. Goway included things i don't know if I would have done if left to my own planning and the trip turned out better than expected.

Flawless journey to Malaysia

Excellent service from Emma in the planning stages. Wonderful choices of accommodation in Kuala Lumpur and Langkawi. The Danna in Langkawi was one of the best hotels I’ve ever stayed in. Member of small luxury hotels of the world. Service was impeccable. All the ground transfers were smooth and on time. City tour of Kuala Lumpur was excellent with an outstanding guide, Dora. Internal flights worked well for our schedule. Flawless from start to finish.

A Memorable Trip to SE Asia

We had one heck of a trip thanks to Goway! There was not one hiccup in our itinerary! All things went as planned and scheduled! Our hosts in SE Asia were wonderful, knowledgeable and entertaining. They pulled it off nicely!

Wonderful Experience!

Taryn was great and very accommodating to all our needs for our trip to Hong Kong and Taiwan. She was able to work with our schedule, dietary restrictions, and other requested add ons. We loved all our accommodations and partner tour groups in HK/Taiwan and hope to go back to see even more!

3rd trip down under…

Just finished a trip to Australia planned through GoWay Travel and arranged by Janette and our travel agent Kathi at Travel Professional Associates of Tampa Inc. The selection of excursions, hotels and resorts and the attention to detail are the best things these 2 ladies and their companies do. They were able to fill all of our travel time with exciting new things to do and see. All of the travel connections, both airline and ground transportation, were coordinated so that we never missed a connection and had plenty of time. The excursions, whether provided by the resorts or booked by GoWay were some of the best we have ever been on. The one thing we enjoy the most when we travel is meeting and talking with the local people. All of our excursions on this trip allowed us to do that. Our two favorite excursions this trip was with Ben of Piste 4WD Tours in Adelaide and the 3 night 4 day train trip on the Indian Pacific railroad. The train trip gave us plenty of time to get to know some of our fellow travelers. The excursion with Ben on his "Wine & Wildlife tour was especially rewarding. We got to spend three hours at his mother's house at the family vineyard having lunch and talking with her about her family's history and what life was like growing up and raising her family in The area around Adelaide. In closing this was our third trip to Australia. The first two we spent in central and eastern Australia. we specifically planned this one to see Tasmania, southern and western Australia. The trip Planned by our travel agent and GoWay more than met our expectations.

Our trip to Dubai and Cairo was a success!!…

I began working with our destination specialist Alexandra about 14 months prior to our trip. We went back and forth on setting up the logistics of the trip and reviewing the passenger info as well as ticket policies and time of issuance with the airline carrier. Other than that, I appreciated her putting up with my weekly questions via both email and telephone, sometimes bugging her for info to assure that I was on top of everything for my travel clients. In the end our trip was a successful venture where all who participated loved it and the itinerary developed by GOWAY.

Great Experience

We tailored our itinerary with GoWay. Our first time using GoWay—such a wonderful trip and the GoWay reps/guides/drivers made it a very memorable and enjoyable experience. The train ride was very nice—our two person coupe was exactly what we expected. We were also very pleased with our Taj Palace upgrade. The team leaders (Mr. Rangot and Mr. Singh) were very responsive and cordial. Everything went smoothly and we have fond memories we will cherish for a long time. Brent, our coordinator for setting up this itinerary was very patient and cordial and made it easy to work with him on my many questions.

Goway exceed my expectations

Goway exceed my expectations! Everything was perfect. As a travel agent, the bar is set extremely high. My husband and I celebrated our 30th anniversary with 39 friends and family. Ruhee (our tour guide) was top notch. Anthonette, our Goway Rep was knowledgeable, patient and professional. Our transportation and hotel was 6 star. Words cannot express how amazing the trip was. I will forever be indebted to Goway. Looking forward to our next trip. I will be reaching out soon.

Thanksgiving Group trip to Dubai & Abu Dhabi

From Day 1, Alex was so helpful in providing information about group travel, offering additional options to choose from, and added to the overall intimate experience of the group. Everyone has expressed this was the best trip they have ever had and appreciated the one-on-one experiences. Our tour guide, Houda, is second to none! Just when we thought we had down time planned, Houda was suggesting other places we should check out....and we did!!! Thank you Alex for helping to plan a most memorable trip and making sure we had everything we needed before, and during, our trip!! Thank you Houda for being an awesome tour guide!! We are already planning our next GoWay trip!!!

A must do at a reasonable price! 14 day Classic Tailor-Made Moderate Australia Tour.

Just returned from a 14 day Classic Tailor-Made “Moderate” trip to Australia. Our trip included Sydney, Cairns, Melbourne and Adelaide. Must say, we were so pleased with the accommodations in every city. The hotels were top notch and in very central locations allowing us to walk most anywhere with ease. No issues whatsoever with private transfers or excursions. Always on time! The excursions included in this trip were outstanding! A must do at a reasonable price!

I made a beginner's mistake and hope this post saves someone else from this problem!

I am sure that everyone knows how this story ends: now one month before our trip, I am finding tickets much cheaper, including business class for the same price that I paid for economy. The insult to injury is that the Goway travel agent is, to put it mildly, unresponsive. Her suggested option is to pay additional sums to change the tickets and hen upgrade to business class. I found that she was sullen about anwering questions about these already sold tickets, and rushs to get off the phone. This has started our trip with a sour taste in my mouth.

For a travel agency that bills itself in Canada as a NewZealand/Australia specialist, I expected honest advice about pricing. (Yes, I am clearly a sucker). If you are travelling from central Canada, my advice is to research your prices and book yourself online. You can't do worse than dealing with Goway. Second piece of advice: if you have any flexibility in your travel dates and aren't travelling at peak periods, you can wait to get tickets closer to the dates

Wishing safe and happy travels to all!

' class=

The travel agent's crystal ball was obviously faulty. Too many people 'bag' travel agents in this forum for their inability to see into the future. In your own words, the price online and with the agent were the same at the time you booked. The prices could even have increased - nobody can tell 10-11 months out from the date of travel.

Try not to let this ruin your trip. If you hadn't checked back on what the current prices are, would you still feel good about your trip? (that's why I typically don't recheck prices after I book a flight ).

You're still going to have a great time. I flew Air New Zealand earlier this year, also from Canada, and they are top notch. You're going to a fabulous country, with fabulous people, and I'm certain you'll have a great experience.

Next time, just watch the prices, purchase directly with the airline , and don't check the prices again after the tickets are booked.

is goway travel legit

I do believe it is common practice in the US, I have read on here that JetBlue are at least one airline which offer a refund of some description; either a voucher or an actual refund?

WHat fare class did you book? If you booked one of the upper fare classes... the ones that often come out first, they may be refundable... maybe able to be cancelled for a fee that would result in a lower fare.

Those are very helpful suggestions - thank you!

Maria is The Best

Maria helped us with hotels, tours and transportation for our first trip to Japan. We wanted a blend of booked tours and open time and she mapped out a wonderful itinerary for us, got us rail pass vouchers which were waiting for us at the hotel, and made our trip smooth and fantastic. She is knowledgeable, friendly, and generous with her suggestions. We loved working with her and would do it again in a heartbeat when we next need foreign travel advice and assistance.

Africa Adventure

I worked with Alexandra Hale for a group of clients travelling to South Africa for 3 weeks, they have just returned and had an amazing time. She was very good to work with throughout the planning stages of this itinerary. We had some changes that needed to be made while the group was travelling and she was very attentive to those needs as well. I have already requested another itinerary for 2025 with her as well, as I know it will be another fantastic itinerary and exactly what the clients are looking for. Thanks so much Alexandra.

5 Stars to Shoko and Goway!

Shoko was a phenomenal agent to work with! My client had a great time. Everything was seamless and I am so thankful that she helped me put together this amazing trip! As a travel agent, servicing destinations I have never visited, goway is a stellar vendor that I will continue using! they are knowledgeable, with quick responses, and very easy to work with!

My first group tour and everything was perfect! The tour content, the accommodations, the different foods were first rate. The tour guru Collen from Kiboko was an excellent guide, driver and friend to us all. He is very knowledgeable, pleasant and funny who entertained us all with his smile and helping hand! Our tour group was small with only 9 travellers and proved to be the best companions and new friends for laughing and joking and eating and drinking! Highly recommend GoWay Tours and Kiboko Tours for the very best tour experience! Will definitely use GoWay again. No surprises. Exactly as itinerary states. (Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia and South Africa).

OVERALL: The GoWay experience was really great. No hiccups with schedule or drivers and everything went so smoothly. All six of us said our vaca was at least a 9 out of 10. It was a great overall adventure. Some surprises included the monkeys playing and moving all around us on multiple occasions as well as getting to watch a Costa Rica Nicaragua qualifying futbol match in a bar in San Jose!

Exceptional Service and Seamless Travel Experience provided by Allyson

I recently booked a trip through Allyson, and I couldn’t be happier with the experience. From start to finish, she provided exceptional service, ensuring that every detail of my trip was taken care of. The booking process was smooth and efficient, and she was incredibly knowledgeable and helpful in helping our family plan our vacation. Throughout our travels, everything went seamlessly thanks to her meticulous planning and attention to detail. From flights to accommodations to local transportation, everything was arranged perfectly, allowing us to relax and enjoy our vacation without any worries. Additionally, her customer service was outstanding. She was always available to answer any questions or address any concerns I had before, during, and even after my trip. Her dedication to customer satisfaction truly sets her apart. Overall, I highly recommend Allyson to anyone looking for a stress-free and unforgettable travel experience. I will definitely be booking with her again for my future adventures!

Group travel guidance

The agent we worked with helped us find the best itinerary for our group of 20, which is no small feat. She was responsive to other needs that unfolded during our booking process, including special meals and seat assignments. We have returned to Goway Travel year after year because of the great service Cathy has provided.

Best Trip Ever!

Yolanda at the Africa desk helped me put together a birthday celebration to South Africa for a single lady. Her knowledge and guidance made me look like a rock star. My client returned home raving,"this was my best trip ever!"

Communication and Expert Knowledge

I had an excellent trip because Alice, my Goway Travel agent, was an excellent communicator. Listening to my concerns and then following up in a timely manner made this process enjoyable and productive. It was very helpful that Alice had intimate knowledge of every location and activity that we spoke about. I felt reassured that she would be a support throughout my travels and she was.

Amazing service and so reliable…

I am a travel agent and I worked with Luis to create an itinerary for a client to Iceland. Luis was knowledgeable, easy to reach and helped me create a trip to fit my clients bucket list dream! Thanks!

The representative I worked with was…helpful and knowledgable

The representative I worked with was very helpful and ensured our holiday was a success. The reason I didn't rate the overall experience a 5 - was she had email issues (several times) - where she was not receiving my emails and I had to follow up several times. Now, was that the truth - I don't know. I'd like to believe it was...and that she wasn't ignoring me.

Great Experience

The planning process with Yolanda was very quick and she was able to find exactly what I wanted for my clients. I have always found GoWay to be positive to work with and will work with them again.

Shout Out to Callie CHan

I would like to give a shout out to an agent I have been working with - Callie Chan. She is very attentive to my requests and is able to come up with itineraries that my clients really love. She is an extremely hard worker and I appreciate that. Of all of the Goway agents I have used- Callie is most attentive and responsive. She has been wonderful and I will love to keep working with her in the future.

Emma's and Goway's local knowledge was invaluable!

We just came home from an month in Thailand and thoroughly enjoyed the whole trip. Everything worked perfectly - from flights to hotel transfers to tours. Emma at Goway did an amazing job of tailoring our trip to our preferences (e.g. smaller boutique hotels, choice of tours) and all of the local guides were great. A couple of highlights were the 3 day/two night Elephant Hills Jungle Lake Safari and our stay at Zeavola Resort on Koh Phi Phi in our Beach Bungalow - right on the beach. We loved it all and Emma's and Goway's local knowledge was invaluable!

Pamela did an excellent job for us

Pamela did an excellent job for us, the hotels were all clean and modern with the one in Pattaya being exceptional. The private car transfers were really beneficial as cabs in Thailand can be hard to arrange and are often unreliable. The flights she arranged with Thailand all went smooth with no delays. We would definitely use her again - very pleased!

Out trip in Thailand

Tina was our tour guide in Bangkok and she made the entire experience!!! she was amazing and i would ask for her by name. She was knowledgeable, flexible with time schedule, and funny!! She met us at the airport and we hardly took a step with out her, she was fantastic and made Bangkok fun! The rest of the trip was great and all of the other guides and people in Thailand were wonderful. The itinerary we put together with Goway was perfect for us. The only critique is not all of the descriptions are 100% accurate but close enough because it was too amazing of an experience.

An Update Regarding Scammers Targeting Goway’s Travel Advisor Community

  • Travel News
  • January 15, 2024

is goway travel legit

Recently, it has come to our attention that some malicious individuals have been impersonating Goway employees and targeting our dedicated travel advisor community. A Facebook page has appeared claiming to be run by Goway, while users have been contacting travel advisors via Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp asking for money and offering false rewards and recruitment notices.

We feel the need to set the record straight: these communications are not coming from Goway and we would never contact any of our trusted travel advisors in such a manner.

For instance, there is only one official private Facebook group for travel advisors , which is managed by the Goway Account Management team and currently has over 16,000 members. We do not run other private Facebook groups, so if you are asked to join one, please decline and join our official group instead.

As well, this very website, Goway Agent, is our only official webpage for travel advisors. There is another website claiming to be Goway Agent, which is using a web URL with the plural of agent to attempt to trick people into accessing it. It requests that advisors either login or sign up to access the web content. This is a scam and any solicitation or communications from such a website should be blocked and reported.

Also, please note that Goway will never reach out to you on WhatsApp to proactively recruit you for any kind of work. We go through official recruitment channels and our People & Culture team diligently follow every industry regulation. If you have received a message of this nature, please disregard and block the sender.

If you continue to receive suspicious messages or have come across websites claiming to be Goway, please contact Goway’s Trade Training & Engagement Manager Don Forster at [email protected] . If you have any hesitation about messages claiming to be from Goway, please contact your Goway Account Manager first. Do not click on any suspicious link.

We’re hopeful that a proactive response and the help of our wider travel advisor community will nip this in the bud. We regret any confusion. We’re committed to making your lives easier and to Goway Agent being a one-stop-shop for travel advisors, so we’ll continue to improve our processes and combat these malicious scammers. Thank you for your patience and support.

Another Boeing plane issue? Don't fall for the headlines. | Cruising Altitude

is goway travel legit

Not all issues involving Boeings are created equal.

Boeing has been in the news a lot lately, and that’s partly because of me. As an aviation reporter, it’s my job to follow what’s going on at the company and update the public about any important developments. Where it gets a little muddier, though, is when some incident involves a Boeing airplane that is not specifically a Boeing Issue (caps intentional).

As a result of some very high-profile and serious safety incidents, Boeing is rightfully under a microscope now. But just because there’s a news appetite for it doesn’t mean that Boeing is responsible for everything that goes on with its aircraft once they leave the factory floor.

At a time when people are thinking about the planes they fly on more than usual, it can be hard to highlight relevant information without misleading readers into thinking there’s more malfeasance than there actually is.

It’s a newsroom conversation every time we see Boeing bubbling in news trends. My job is to hold Boeing accountable without fearmongering.

Aviation professionals agree that while Boeing and its practices deserve scrutiny, you should still feel alright flying on their planes.

So, let’s try to cut through the noise.

What’s wrong with Boeing?

“There are genuine worries about Boeing in terms of its performance as a company, its safety culture, its manufacturing culture,” Jon Ostrower, editor-in-chief of The Air Current , told me.

It’s hard to boil down the issues at Boeing because they didn’t happen overnight. They’re systemic and the result of a series of small changes and corporate decisions over decades that de-emphasized engineering excellence and safety and put extra importance on shareholder returns. But that’s not the only thing.

“During COVID we had a lot of retirements that happened both on the pilot front and the mechanic front, and there was a lot of senior expertise that left,” Laurie Garrow, a civil engineering professor specializing in aviation at Georgia Tech, told me. “The senior expertise probably provided a series of checks and balances that are being relearned and reinstitutionalized in some companies.”

Garrow is currently on a consulting contract with Boeing on unrelated issues. She said her perspective applies to not just Boeing but the aviation industry as a whole.

According to Ostrower, Boeing needs to change its corporate culture to emerge from the current shadow.

“Boeing’s behavior in terms of the design of the 737 Max is an aberration in an otherwise phenomenally safe system,” he said. “They need to put themselves back together, and I mean that quite literally. There has been an internal breakup of the company over decades that has fractured their workforce, both the engineers and the machinists, spiritually and geographically.”

Boeing is, of course, under investigation by federal regulators as a result of these issues. It’s unclear what the outcome of those investigations will be, but it seems likely that some internal company changes will be required.

What airplane issues is Boeing responsible for?

“What’s going on at Boeing is distinctly separate from the types of issues that happen in service, that by the way, would largely go unnoticed or unreported on if it wasn’t what happened on Alaska 1282,” Ostrower said.

Said another way: A Boeing plane can be involved in an incident that has nothing to do with Boeing itself.

“There is a pile-on fixation that happens in the broader media landscape,” Ostrower said. “That is a function of how people are feeling about their confidence in Boeing, but it fundamentally is not related to anything that’s been going on at Boeing.”

Garrow pointed out that aviation is extremely safe overall and has only gotten safer over time.

“A lot of the safety features have redundancy. A lot of the kinks have been worked out,” she said. “Not every aircraft flies perfectly, there are maintenance issues that happen, but they are getting increased scrutiny right now.”

Of course, Boeing is responsible for manufacturing defects like the missing bolts that led to the Alaska Airlines explosive decompression earlier this year. But as an airframer, Boeing doesn’t manufacture things like engines – those are supplied by other companies – or place the tires on planes that have been in service for many years. Once an aircraft is away from the factory, airlines largely take over its maintenance.

“If a flight is delayed because of a problem, it’s because someone has noticed it and it’s being addressed,” Ostrower said.

That’s the system working.

“These are incredibly complex machines, and they run at a reliability level that is truly extraordinary,” Ostrower added. “There are levels of redundancy. You can defer maintenance items in a safe and well-understood way … This component wasn’t active on my airplane, and that’s fine, you can operate safely with that, it’s approved to do that.”

What is an emergency landing?

Another gray area when it comes to the news is emergency landings. A casual traveler understandably hears the word “emergency” and thinks of the absolute worst case. Still, the Federal Aviation Administration allows, and in fact encourages, pilots to declare an emergency in any “ distress or urgency condition .”

According to the pilot/controller glossary , that can include “a condition of being concerned about safety and of requiring timely but not immediate assistance.”

Aviation safety is built on redundancy and overcaution, so a pilot declaring an emergency is usually another sign that the system is working as designed. It doesn’t always bear being reported on.

Are Boeing airplanes safe?

The short answer is yes.

“Trust has been broken at Boeing and the airlines are paying for that,” Ostrower said. “It makes it really hard for us to say ‘trust the airlines and their processes,’ but you have to because there’s ample evidence and ample history and safety culture to back that up.”

Thousands of Boeing aircraft fly without incident every day. Eventually, the company’s place at the top of the news cycle will fade, though the focus on safety throughout aviation will remain as it always has.

“People shouldn’t have to think about what kind of airplane they’re getting on, and we need to get back to that,” Ostrower said. “The way we’re going to get back to that is through getting not just Boeing but the airlines on a reliable footing.”

In the meantime, Garrow said, travelers should consider the bigger picture.

“The few times an aircraft has gone down or there has been a major accident. I personally have found it very difficult the next day to get on a flight if I’m traveling. Aviation has one of the best safety records of all of the modes and I personally don’t want to change my life – not go on my dream vacation to Europe or not go on my professional trip that I literally could not drive to – because of a fear of flying,” she said. “I just always remind myself that aviation has had one of the best safety records, and I’m comforted by the fact that I’m not driving the plane, that I have two experienced pilots that have been trained for multiple safety scenarios, and I’m in good hands when I travel.”

Americans who have traveled internationally stand out in their views and knowledge of foreign affairs

Do people who travel think differently about the world? A new Pew Research Center survey suggests they do.

Americans who have traveled internationally are more interested in and knowledgeable about foreign affairs, feel closer to others around the world, and favor a more active foreign policy, according to the survey of 3,576 U.S. adults conducted in spring 2023. We also surveyed people in 23 other countries about their international travel habits.

This analysis examines international travel with a focus on Americans’ travel, including which Americans travel abroad and how their interest in the world and views of international affairs differ from others.

For this analysis, we surveyed 3,576 U.S. adults from March 20 to March 26, 2023; 3,581 U.S. adults from March 21 to March 27, 2022; and 10,606 U.S. adults from June 14 to June 27, 2021. Everyone who took part in these surveys is a member of the Center’s American Trends Panel (ATP), an online survey panel that is recruited through national, random sampling of residential addresses. This way nearly all U.S. adults have a chance of selection. The survey is weighted to be representative of the U.S. adult population by gender, race, ethnicity, partisan affiliation, education and other categories. Read more about the ATP’s methodology .

For non-U.S. data, this report draws on nationally representative surveys of 27,285 adults conducted from Feb. 20 to May 22, 2023. All surveys were conducted over the phone with adults in Canada, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, South Korea, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom. Surveys were conducted face-to-face in Hungary, Poland, India, Indonesia, Israel, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Argentina, Brazil and Mexico. In Australia, we used a mixed-mode probability-based online panel.

Here are the June 2021 survey questions and responses used in this analysis. Those for the March 2022 survey may be found here , as well as those for the March 2023 survey .

How many Americans have traveled internationally?

Roughly three-quarters of Americans (76%) have visited at least one other country, including 26% who have been to five or more. About a quarter (23%) have not traveled internationally, though most in this group say they would if they had the opportunity.

Related:  How experience with international travel varies across 24 countries

To analyze how Americans’ travel experiences relate to their attitudes on other questions, we placed people into three categories:

  • Globe-trotters have traveled to at least five other countries. About a quarter of the U.S. public (26%) falls into this category.
  • Casual travelers have traveled to between one and four other countries. Half of Americans fall into this category.
  • Nontravelers have never left the United States. This category includes 23% of Americans.

Compared with Americans, people in many European nations are more likely to have traveled to five or more other countries. For instance, 88% of Swedes have done so.

A map showing that Americans are less likely than Europeans to have visited 5 or more countries.

However, international travel is much less common in many middle-income nations. It is strongly correlated with a nation’s gross domestic product per capita. (For more on international travel and views about global engagement, read “Attitudes on an Interconnected World.” )

Who travels internationally?

A horizontal stacked bar chart showing that U.S. ‘globe-trotters’ are more likely to be older, have higher incomes and more education.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, older people are more likely than younger people to have traveled internationally. Americans ages 65 and older are more than twice as likely as adults under 30 to fall into our globe-trotter category (37% vs. 17%).

Income is even more strongly related to travel than age. Two-thirds of upper-income Americans have traveled to at least five countries, compared with 9% of Americans with lower incomes.

Similarly, Americans with a postgraduate degree are far more likely to be globe-trotters than those with a high school education or less (59% vs. 10%).

Residents of suburban and urban areas generally have more international travel experience than people who live in rural areas.

There are no significant partisan differences when it comes to international travel: 26% of Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents qualify as globe-trotters, as do 28% of Republicans and GOP leaners.

Do travelers know more about the world?

A bar chart showing that Americans who’ve traveled widely abroad have greater interest in foreign affairs.

Globe-trotters are especially likely to say they are interested in foreign affairs and follow international news. Casual travelers, in turn, are more likely than nontravelers to do so.

Globe-trotters are also the most knowledgeable about international affairs. In 2022, we conducted an international affairs quiz , asking Americans 12 questions related to international news. On average, globe-trotters got 8.2 of the 12 questions correct, compared with 6.4 for casual travelers and 4.2 for nontravelers.

Is international travel related to views of global engagement?

A bar chart showing that ‘globe-trotters’ prioritize U.S. engagement in world affairs and value compromise with other countries.

International travel experience is also linked to Americans’ views about international affairs and their feelings of connection to other people around the world.

When asked which comes closest to their view, 57% of globe-trotters say the U.S. should be active in world affairs, while 43% say the U.S. should pay less attention to problems in other countries and concentrate on problems at home. In contrast, most casual travelers and nontravelers say the U.S. should focus on problems at home.

In all three groups, at least half of respondents say that when the U.S. is making foreign policy, it should take other countries’ interests into account – even if that means making compromises. But globe-trotters are especially likely to hold that view.

Globe-trotters are also particularly likely to say they feel close to people around the world, with 42% saying so. By comparison, 34% of casual travelers and 30% of nontravelers say this.

Australia/NZ and Italy trips

Australia/NZ and Italy trips. We have used GoWay twice with different specialist agents for a 6 week trip down under last winter and then 3 weeks in Europe in September. Both agents were friendly, listened to our requests and responded quickly to all our communications with them. The itineraries were detailed and well organized by the agents and well executed by their partners abroad. Planning to use them for another trip to Taipei and Tokyo.

Excellent service

Our travel agent took our suggested itinerary and managed all the required bookings (we had more than ten stops during the trip). The whole trip went beautifully and the hotels selected were all well kept, clean and very comfortable. We highly recommend the services of Goway travel - they were great!!

Goway was a pleasure to work with

Goway was a pleasure to work with. Literally every request I made our travel agent made possible, and I had a lot of requests. We needed a little additional information about how to dress for one of our excursions but even so I would highly recommend both Goway and Thailand.

We enjoyed every aspect of our tours and trip with Goway Travel. We had a multi-City trip in Thailand - Bangkok, Chang Mai and Phuket. Each of the three local Tour Guides were phenomenal. It was abundantly clear that each local Guide was fully invested in ensuring we had the best time possible. Highly recommended and we will be using Goway again on our next trip to Vietnam and Thailand.

Our guide, Phil was phenomenal. Spoke English well, was always on time and gave an informative tour. If you do not like crowded places with a lot of shoving and pushing and loud people, avoid Grand Palace and Night Market tours as well as Marklong railway market . Never saw monks chanting or devotees making offerings.

Goway is absolutely terrible

Our travel agent used Goway to prepare a trip to South America. Goway dragged their feet for weeks causing our airfare to become unafordable. Both the travel agent and I attempted many times to contact Goway for updates and were met with silence. We ended up cancelling and Goway has yet to refund any of our money. Avoid them at all costs. If you don't believe me, google their reviews.

Tanya did a terrific job organizing our latest trip to Vietnam. Originally she booked us to go to the Middle East but with the outbreak of war she deftly cancelled our bookings and rebooked us for Vietnam. Our hotels, meals, and our guides were all exceptional. It turned out to be one of our all-time favorite travel adventures. Thanks to all involved for creating such a remarkable trip.

I had purchased a 3 nite stay at Sudima…

I had purchased a 3 nite stay at Sudima in Auckland City, NZ and transport from the Royal Princess when I disembarked! The travel agent Joanne Valancik scheduled the transport for 0800.we asked for an 1100 pickup! She failed to change the time! So went we got off the boat the transport was gone! She told me to get a taxi to the hotel and she would reimburse me! I went to the Sudima to check in. I was told that my reservation for 3 nights had been cancelled the day before by the travel company! I was stunned! I was given a room to keep me off the streets of Auckland, NZ! I tried to call Joanne back and was told she had gone home for the weekend! I communicated with customer service who was in the dark as to what had happened. They kept saying they couldn’t reimburse me until they were instructed by Joanne P. who was unavailable. The following Monday before I left Auckland and when Joanne P came back to her office, I communicated with Joanne P. She offered no reason why my room (which I had already paid for) was cancelled prior to my arrival! She kept saying that customer service would “take care of me.” A week later, I had received no email of plan to reimburse me. Mind you, I had paid for my room/transport prior to my cruise! I called customer service and was told they are investigating and it could be 8 weeks before I am reimbursed. This experience was horrible for me. I was traumatized to be left at the ship terminal with 4000 people vying for taxis! Not to mention getting to my hotel and GoWay had cancelled my room! I had a voucher letter for my reservation which they could not honor since my reservation had been cancelled. Two weeks being home and no reimbursement! Was this all a scam?

Have "knowledgeable people" guide you

Maria's knowledge & willingness to work with us, made the package a success. There were some minor disappointments, but overall, the trip meet our expectation. Our compliments to the four tour guides. They were knowledgeable and very helpful. Language was not a problem as most people had an ap that did instant translations.

Our guides, Jamie, Ivan and Julia as well as drivers took very good care of us. We trusted them and felt relaxed so as to enjoy our vacation. The itinerary was unique and interesting. The accommodations were good.

Did a 3 week adventure in Thailand

Did a 3 week adventure in Thailand, was absolutely amazing. Goway handled all the bookings, accommodations, tours, and flights between places. They tailored the trip to include all our destinations and tours we wanted. Accommodations were well beyond our expectations and all tours were personalized for us. Communication between our agent (Taryn) and us was excellent. Highly recommend.

Goway customized a tour package to Costa Rica Jan2024

Goway customized a tour package to Costa Rica based on travellers wants and needs. The agent I dealt with (Jaime Vargas) did an excellent job of getting back to me with pricing quickly with any updates/revisions I required. Pricing was in line with what was requested. In destination all components of the trip went smoothly. All transfers were on time; hotels were very well chosen, all excursions were enjoyed by the clients.

Horrible Experience

Looking at the other reviews I can say our horrible experience with GoWay travel was based on the very large group number we used their services for. Upon going back and talking to every vendor they used to secure hotel rooms and transportation for our group of over 60 people, we discovered they inflated the pricing for us about 150% on charges associated with our trip for their agency and an agent they contracted with. They were of no help at all once we actually arrived in Italy. I will be going on every possible outlet to leave a review on just how horrible their service and treatment was of The UGA Men's Basketball team's foreign tour experience.

Do NOT...I repeat do NOT book through…

Do NOT...I repeat do NOT book through Go Way Travel.Communication has been terrible. We thought we had paid a competent reputable agency to book our travel so that it would be worry free...NOT the case. Visas were a mess and not explained. We found out less than 24 hrs before they were required and onus was on us(another added expense). More money required at hotel (READ the fine print) Our first tour had NO record of our reservation!!! I've spent over 1.5 hours figuring it out. It was put under wrong name! Grrrr. This is day one! I'm so disappointed so far and scared to get on plane for the remainder of vacation. I have NO faith in Go Way.

Reply from Goway Travel

Good day, and thank you for reaching out to us, Michella. My name is David Zolis, and I am the Vice President of Client Experience here at Goway Travel. I think there is some confusion. I am looking at email proof that both travel documents (one for your Los Angeles/California itinerary and one for your Australian itinerary) were emailed to your travel partner, Susan, on January 15th, 2024, at 11:25 am ET and January 26th at 10:11 am ET, respectively. On page 2 and page 3 of both itineraries (as well as on the multiple booking status and invoice documents that were sent by your Destination Specialist), it clearly and articulately outlines all VISA requirements for your trip. I think it goes without saying that reading your travel documents is imperative – this is YOUR trip, you need to read and research all aspects of your travels. It is solely the responsibility of the traveler to ensure that things like your passport validation, VISA/entry requirements, vaccinations that may be necessary, and all of those sorts of things are met and obtained. If you would like for me to resend these emails/itineraries to you, I would be more than happy to. Here is the verbiage taken from page 2 and page 3 verbatim for the record. “Entry Visas: You must obtain any required Entry visas for the countries you are visiting. Visa processing times and requirements vary based on your nationality and may also be a factor regardless of where you live.” In regards to your bus tour. I understand you called your Destination Specialist yesterday (Monday, February the 5th) upset that the bus was not there on Sunday (the 4th) and that there was a concern with the name on your reservation. However, on Sunday (February the 4th), our Customer Service team emailed Susan outlining to her that there was a change in timing and that your bus tour was rescheduled for 1130 am that say (Sunday). In conjunction with this, on December 8th, 2023, I saw email proof that Susan was sent the vouchers for the bus tour with all relevant information contained on those vouchers, so there should never have been any concern even if for some reason the local company had the incorrect name noted on your reservation. Those vouchers could have easily been provided to the bus company then and there IF there was confusion at the time you checked in for the tour which would have indicated that you were booked on this tour. I can happily resend that email confirmation with those vouchers sent to Susan on December 8th, to you, if it was missed the first time. Michella, at the end of the day, we want the experience our passengers have in their destination to be paramount. If there is an issue on our side, we will own that. At the same time, if there is clarity needed in the remediation of an issue, we will provide that as well. We want to resolve this on an amicable note, all things said. If you would like to reach out to me via [email protected], I would be happy to discuss this more with you offline. Sincerely, David Zolis

Excellent tour to The Philippines

I have recently completed The Philippines tour. It was my second trip booked with Goway (first one was Tunisia). Planning and communication was very good. Special thanks to Manjiri! Goway chooses very professional local people. Prior to my arraval to Manila I was contacted by my pickup driver who provided me a picture of the area where he would meet me. All tours were exactly as described, pickups were on time, guides and drivers are friendly and professional.

Great trip.

We just returned from a great trip that Goway planned for us. Dubai, Bali, Singapore and Malaysia. It was a great experience. Wonderful hotels and guides throughout.

Overall…EPIC!

Overall, our epic trip to French Polynesia and New Zealand was fantastic! We agree with our travel agent who said, “in hindsight I’d plan New Zealand first then French Polynesia”. So many different things to see and do in NZ! So, we would see as much as possible in 11 days of the mountains, volcanoes, fjords, Maori traditions, adventures, jungles, wine country and friendly people while still enjoying free time to find our own way around each location with every other day off. Back-to-back excursions was too busy to call it vacation. After the diversity of sights in NZ the relaxing pace of Fr. Polynesia for the next 11 days… with it’s archipelagos, mountains, jungles, beaches, sun, fresh food, ocean life and hospitality would really feel like a just reward! Complete the memories, photos and stories of Spring with a tan and take it all back to the Northern Hemisphere’s Fall!

Our trip to Portugal was flawless

Our trip to Portugal was flawless. The hotel accommodations exceeded our expectations and our rental car was perfect for our needs. The booking for our trip was so easy and straight-forward. And, the cost was so reasonable that there are no excuses for anyone to not have a European vacation. Thank you Goway Travel. We will most certainly use you again for our travel.

Excellent Communication and Execution !

My liaison at Goway was so responsive to my questions and issues throughout the planning process. His partner at the travel agency in India put together a seamless experience for us. There were representatives to meet us at every turn and well informed guides at each place of interest. The price for a private 10 day tour, staying at top notch hotels was very reasonable! I will recommend Goway for any travel need.
