Built by Raja Man Singh I, the Amer Fort, often called the Amber Fort, is the prime location for Jaipur city tour. Located on a hilltop, this fort is rooted with a series of gates and paved paths.  The Maota Lake lies beneath this fort, which makes the craggy location of the fort more enticing. Location of the fort itself mesmerizes the visitors.

Nahargarh Fort

Jaigarh Fort

City Palace

Located alongside the City Palace at the heart of Jaipur, Hawa Mahal is another significant palace to visit in this Jaipur Sightseeing Tour. Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh, the grandson of Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh built this palace in 1799. It is a five-storey building built in pyramidal shape, which is a symbolic replica of the crown of the Hindu god, Lord Krishna.

Standing elegantly amidst the Man Sagar Lake, Jal Mahal or the Water Palace boasts of its unexplained stories. Built in the 18th century by Maharaja Jai Singh II, it is a five-storey building with a stately pavilion and a terrace garden. Located on the Jaipur-Amber highway, around 15 km from Jaipur, Gaitore is the afterlife-resting place of the valourous kings of Jaipur. It is the royal cremation ground of Jaipur and one of the main attractions of Jaipur city tour.

Except Maharaja Sawai Ishwari Singh, who was cremated in the City Palace, Gaitore has the cenotaphs or tombstones (or Chhatri in Hindi) of all the Maharajas of Jaipur.

Among all the cenotaphs, the one of Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II is the most attractive. It is decorated with peacock carvings, crafted delicately on pure white marble. These tombstones or cenotaphs are believed to reflect the lavish lifestyle of the kings when they were alive.

'Gaye ka Thor' which means 'resting place of the departed soul' is believed to be the original name of this royal cremation ground. However, it was misspelt as Gaitore and thus it got its name. Visit to Gaitore is the way to pay homage to the mighty rulers of Jaipur and their valour, and is an indispensable part of Jaipur sightseeing tours. Isarlat or the Swargasuli was erected in 1749 by Sawai Ishwari Singh to commemorate a grand victory in a battle. Since then, this 140 feet tower of victory is standing upright in Tripolia Bazar.

Inaugurated on the 1st of June 1976, the screen of this meringue shaped theatre started with the screening of ‘Charas’ movie. Abhaneri , a small village in the Dasua district of Jaipur, is renowned for Harshat Mata Temple and the Chand Baori. Located on the Jaipur-Agra Highway, this village can be easily reached from all other surrounding places. It is an important historical sight for sightseeing in Jaipur.

Harshat Mata, who is believed to be the goddess of happiness, sanctified this village with peace, prosperity and never-ending happiness. Away from the monotonous life of the bustling city, peace and happiness still prevail in this village, which is also very prosperous in its own regard.

The Harshat Mata Temple is presently in ruins and the government is adopting requisite steps to restore the historic beauty of this temple.

Chand Boari, India's largest and deepest step well is another attraction of this village. Built by the villagers, Chand Boari serves in rainwater harvesting and is an important source of water for the entire village.

Cosseted between the picturesque mountain passes of the Aravalli Hills, Galtaji is considered as one of the holiest and major temples in Jaipur. It is a holy pilgrimage site for the Hindus and is located around 10 km from the main city.

Saint Galav, who is believed to one of the devoted followers of the god is said to complete 100 years of meditation in this place. Pleased with his tapasya (penance), the gods appeared here and blessed this place with an everlasting water source.

Later, a temple with seven holy kunds or ponds was built to mark the holy significance of the place. Every year, during Makar Sankranti, devotees from every corner of India gather at Galtaji and take a holy dip in the kunds. Galta Kund is the largest amongst the seven kunds and is also considered as the holiest.

The maharaja built this garden in 1728 to immortalise his love towards Rani Sisodia. Away from the hustle and bustle of the city life, this garden served as the pleasure place for the couple.

Exotic colourful flowers, magnificent layout and the enticing Radha-Krishna paintings in the garden makes it an ideal place to express love and affection.

I have only given an average review overall because I felt that the tour could have been more effectively organised. There seemed to be a lack of communication overall from the tour company towards its guides and driver. For example, after completing my final payment and editing my personal details on the site, I was supposed to receive my trip vouchers. None came. With my departure date looming I had to contact the company to ask them what time the tour would start and if they wanted my pick up details. On the first day, the tour was supposed to start at 8:30 but the guide and driver were nearly 20 minutes late coming to pick me up. However, the guide was very informative on our visit to the Qutub Minar. That was the only site that I was able to get close to during my tour of Delhi, all the other sites: the India Gate, Presidential Palace etc were 'drive bys' where the driver slowed down so that I could take a picture. We did visit the Lotus Temple, but only for a photo op and we did not go inside the building. Just before lunch I was taken to one of their 'shops' where I was given the hard sell to buy carpets. After that, I was offered to be taken to lunch ( at my own expense ) because the tour was over. I was given the option of eating in Delhi or waiting to Agra ( I was told it would be a 3 to 3 and 1/2 drive ). I opted for Agra because I was still full from breakfast. My guide assured me that I would be met at the hotel upon arrival by my Agra guide and he would take me out for a late lunch/early dinner and show me around Agra. However, upon arrival at the hotel their was no guide and no guide turned up. Prior to that, the driver, who spoke limited English, was asking the hotel staff, in HIndi, what time I wanted to see the Taj Mahal the next morning. It was advertised as a sunrise tour, so the hotel staff advised me I should be ready to leave the hotel by 5:30 am. The driver then told them that the guide would arrive later to confirm with me the time. I waited two hours at the hotel( by this time I was starving and had to order room service ) and the guide did not show up. Whilst the hotel was very nice, it was in an isolated location, 5 km from the city centre and as a lone female did not feel safe venturing out on my own. I was stuck in the hotel for the evening. The next morning, I was ready by 5:30 am but no guide appeared until past 6 am. When I mentioned that I had been waiting the previous night for him he said he would have come if he had known, but no one told him. Who to believe? The Agra guide was great and provided lots of information both at the Taj Mahal and Agra fort but once again I was taken to one of their shops for a hard sell. That afternoon, I made the drive to Jaipur, where the hotel was more central. The guide arrived before the scheduled time ( yay) and we toured many sites in Jaipur. I would say that this was the best day of the tour. Please note, I was again taken to one of their shops for the hard sell-this time for jewelry. Ideally, one needs more than a day in Jaipur ( I effectively had about half a day) to see the sites and go shopping. After touring sites, I was given the option of walking around the market with the guide to shop; or to have lunch or to begin the 4 hour drive to Delhi. I opted to leave for Delhi. I enjoyed my time in the Golden Triangle, but would really recommend a longer tour. Also, if booking with this tour operator you may have to be on top of them to request documents and make sure pick up times go more smoothly. I would like to point out that my driver was excellent.

Whilst I had an amazing time during my Golden Triangle Tour, I feel that travellers should be better prepared for the awful sights/smells and sounds that they will encounter in Delhi. I have done charity work in Uganda, Thailand and Cambodia and I thought I was prepared for Delhi, but nothing could have prepared me for the awful deprivation I encountered. That being said, I am glad that I did experience the 'real' Delhi and I also got to see some amazing sights in Jaipur and Agra. I would also like to give 5 stars to our guide, Ajay. He was fantastic. Nothing was too much for him. He was approachable, good humoured and great company throughout.

Our driver was awesome he helped us out when we needed and our guides in Agra and Jaipur were very knowledgeable. There were varying levels of the different guides keeping us out of the sun and keeping street vendors from following us around, so some days were more stressful than others. The hotels were comfortable with nice breakfasts and kind employees, however the air conditioning wasn’t strong enough for me to sleep well in 2 of them. The sites shown on this tour are amazing and beautiful, exactly what you would want to see, and the restaurants are pretty good too. Every day ended with showing how something is made, which included high pressure sales tactics that made me pretty uncomfortable, but when we asked to skip that in Jaipur the guide obliged. Although there was one other girl on my tour, we were given separate rooms, which was really nice. Overall the tour had several pros and cons but for me it was definitely the right decision over trying to go the golden triangle alone. I would especially recommend the driver. He was the best.
