Funeral Poem – My Journey’s Just Begun by Ellen Brenneman
Funeral Poem My Journey’s Just Begun by Ellen Brenneman
Read by marc lemezma – funeral celebrant.
This lovely poem is another message to the living from a person who has passed away. This time it is a reminder of more than life simply going on. It tells of a new existence and relationship, founded on the love that existed in life.
Don’t think of me as gone away My journey’s just begun Life holds so many facets This earth is but one
Just think of me as resting From the sorrows and the tears In a place of warmth and comfort Where there are no days and years
Think of how I must be wishing That you could know today How nothing but your sadness Can really go away
And think of me as living In the hearts of those I touched For nothing loved is ever lost And I know I was loved so much

His Journey Has Just Begun
My father passed away a few years ago and there isn’t a day that goes past that I don’t think of him. I miss the times that we shared together fishing, traveling, camping, laughing, and doing the plethora of other things that I loved to do with him. He was more than a father to me, he was my buddy, my confidant, my best friend.
Today, I was going through my desk here at home and came across a poem that a friend of mine had shared with us. For some reason, I don’t remember reading it at the time, but after reading it today, it brought a sense of comfort to my heart.
It is for this reason that I felt as though I should share it with other people that may be going through a time of grief, loss, or nostalgia.
So, here is the poem…
“His Journey’s Just Begun”
Don’t think of him as gone away,
His journey’s just begun.
Life holds so many facets,
This earth is only one.
—–
Just think of him as resting,
From the sorrows and the tears.
A place of warmth and comfort,
Where there are no days and years.
Think how he must be wishing,
That we could know today.
How nothing but our sadness,
Can really pass away.
And think of him as living,
In the hearts of those he touched.
For nothing loved is ever lost,
And he was loved so much.

Beautiful poem by Ellen Brenneman ❤ Thanks for sharing. I lost my father in 2001, but never had the chance to say goodbye. I remember him most at Christmas time since he did his best to make it enjoyable and memorable for us kids.
I think your father was saying hello…..I lost both my parents in 2008, and I still think of them every single day. I am convinced that when we find things that remind us of those we love who have passed, it is their way of letting us know that they hear us and see us and feel us, and they want to acknowledge it for us. Your love for your father will always be with you, and his love for you will always be with you, also. Thank you for sharing this wonderful poem. ❤
Thank you so much for your beautiful words of encouragement Anita!!! Have a wonderful day!!!

Her journey’s just begun
Don’t think of her as gone away –
Her journey’s just begun,
Life holds so many facets –
This earth is only one.
Just think of her as resting
From the sorrows and the tears
In a place of warmth and comfort
Where there are no days and years.
Think how she must be wishing
That we could know today
How nothing but our sadness
Can really pass away.
And think of her as living
In the hearts of those she touched
For nothing loved is ever lost –
And she was loved so much

The poem consists of four stanzas with a consistent rhyme scheme of ABCCB. The first two stanzas express that the speaker's journey has just begun, and life has many facets beyond this earth. The third stanza invites the reader to imagine the speaker resting in a place of warmth and comfort, free from sorrows and tears.
