Why TFT is the best in youth travel

Local experiences.

Our mission is authentic travel. We partner with local experts to create enriching experiences that teach teens to be savvy travelers. Every program is designed to be hands-on—emphasizing doing and feeling, in addition to just seeing, so teens discover what it means to live like a local in every country we visit.

Small and Diverse

Group sizes of 16-24 students allow us to travel comfortably and to make real connections to each other and the host community. Participants come from a mix of different states, regions, and countries. We also welcome solo travelers — 75% of our teens join us without a friend!

Transformative Teen Travel

Travel isn’t just about new places; it’s about new perspectives. We encourage teens to step outside their comfort zone and into cultural immersion. They leave our programs with a better understanding of the world and with the confidence to keep exploring!

The Most Variety

We offer more programs in more destinations than any other teen travel company. With over 100 programs and 40+ countries to choose from, you’re sure to find a program that’s the perfect fit.

Travel with us and discover why we are consistently winning awards for Top Youth Travel Organization.

"Finding your program was a gift! It is the BEST opportunity out there for children to travel the world with like-minded peers & reasonable responsible and fun-loving young adults who want to go and explore these incredible cultures and countries. I appreciated how clear you made it that kids can come without friends and a willingness to make new friends. The trip had it all… adventure, history, independence, amazing people, great food, and beautiful lodging all while keeping mom and dad at home informed and feeling like all is well with their child as they grow and experience this incredible gift of grace. I am very grateful for you all and the HUGE team that makes this program work so smoothly. Thank you tons and tons. Travel on and keep up the great work!!!" Parent Europe for Older Teens: Prague, Austria, Slovenia & Croatia
"This is simply one of the best things we ever did for Ethan. That first trip opened him to a new world. Different cultures, food, diversity, sights, relationships, team building, confidence, independence...only a few of the positive gains for Ethan. Now, he is off to George Washington University with confidence, excitement, and an awareness for others for which we are so grateful. We are pleased and appreciative beyond words to be a member of the TFT family for a lifetime!" Diana S. Paoli, PA
"Thank you for giving Kat such a great experience. She had a wonderful time. You guys are terrific. The great parental bonus -- and I'm sure you hear this all the time -- is the photographs and the daily email. We get to see what the kids are seeing and we get to see the group and we get to see our teen. What could be better? Viewing the pictures became our evening ritual: out on the deck overlooking suburbia, sipping cold drinks, and oohing and ahhing over the photos, feeling almost like we were there. I'm sure you're awash in praise like this -- as you should be. Kat had such an enriching trip. Thank you very much! With any luck she'll be back next summer." Tom and Madora K. Old Lyme, CT
"I have traveled with TFT for four summers now, exploring Costa Rica, Croatia, Fiji and Greece. These trips have been the highlight of my summers. They have broadened my horizons and strengthened my confidence. Going on these trips and meeting new people changed how I view the world. I love having conversations with locals and people I meet along the way. The small TFT groups and the knowledgeable and enthusiastic group leaders make for a fun and eye-opening experience. What sets TFT apart is that we immerse ourselves in the culture and we are not just tourists. We meet locals, hear stories about their lives, and it is truly invigorating. Travel For Teens has given me so much more than fun memories over the summer. They have given me the ability to be comfortable talking to anyone, being in new places, having a widened perspective on other cultures, and to be independent. On my Costa Rica and Fiji trips, we volunteered with school children. In a very short time we made deep connections that I will always cherish. I feel so fortunate to have had my eyes opened through TFT to so many beautiful places and memorable people." Anna F. Basking Ridge, NJ

Juvenile never showed up. Mannie Fresh was there for like an hr, he did a great set but over disappointing. Great venue, great crowd but definitely not worth what I spent for the artist I wanted to see not to show up.

This was the word show ever. Juvenile nor Trina showed up for the concert. I am looking into getting my money back. It was not what was advertised and I am upset about this event.

Though Juvenile wasn't the headliner for this particular show, I've seen him as headliner before. His energy is always great, he keeps the crowd engaged and having fun, and he's on time. He does just enough to make it feel like a live show (vs listening to his hits on the radio), without it feeling too overdone. Awesome show!

Juvenile Hall Tour

The San Diego County Probation Department and the juvenile court will be hosting public tours of the Kearny Mesa Juvenile Detention Facility , as part of a “cared straight” campaign, officials announced.

The nearly one-hour free tours are offered in English and Spanish, and will take place Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. They are open to the entire community and no reservations are required.

“Probation officials and staff want to invite everyone to learn what it is like for detained youth and what kind of programs are offered to help young people and their families that struggle with behavioral or emotional issues underlying juvenile crime,” according to a county news release.

During the tours, the public will walk through a juvenile court room, a classroom, a recreation room and living quarters. Visitors will also get to see the uniforms, communal showers, food and daily juvenile hall schedule.

For privacy, the tours will be routed through an empty unit and none of the detained youth will be visible.

The juvenile hall tours are offered on one day every other year. Past open houses have attracted thousands of visitors including families, youth and school clubs, and other groups, according to the county.

Backpacks, purses, cameras, weapons, food, drink and tobacco products are prohibited on the tour.

The Kearny Mesa Juvenile Detention Facility is located at 2851 Meadow Lark Drive.

Summer teen travel tours and community service programs for students, summer teen travel programs by rein teen tours: 973-785-1113.

As Rein Teen Tours enters our 39th year in the summer teen tour and travel market, our program options have steadily grown to include exciting domestic and international teen travel programs and enriching community service and cultural exploration trips . With these offerings, our commitment to Rein travelers and their families is as strong as ever. Norman Rein and the Rein Team have scouted and visited every new location, both domestic and international. This has allowed us to be hands-on in choosing our accommodations, community service projects, cultural offerings, activities, and meals on each and every program.

We believe there is no substitute for experience, and traveling the world on our teen tours leads to exciting discoveries, personal growth, unimaginable adventures, and life-long friendships. To reap the benefits of teen travel, we feel one must be an active participant, not just a tourist. The activities on our tours are imaginative, creative, stimulating, and fun – rambling through the Red Rocks of Sedona on a Pink Jeep ride , white-water rafting on the Savegre River in Costa Rica , hiking through beautiful Bryce Canyon , surfing the waves at Waikiki Beach , soaking in the Blue Lagoon in Iceland , sledding down the sand dunes in New Zealand , hiking Cadillac Mountain in Maine , climbing the Sydney Harbor Bridge in Australia , – the opportunities are endless!

Our community service for teens and cultural exploration programs provide authentic and meaningful opportunities to give back in meaningful ways and to learn about different peoples and places throughout the world. There are many ways to help – work with abandoned animals at a sanctuary on the Big Island of Hawaii , assist the indigenous Kichwa tribe in the Amazon Jungle , help families on the verge of homelessness in California . Whether you travel with us to Ecuador , Hawaii , California , or Costa Rica , each program is designed to be a rich, fulfilling experience that makes a positive impact on the communities we work with and on each one of our teen travelers.

Traveling with Rein Teen Tours provides many memorable experiences and can be rewarding in more ways than ever expected. The thrill of traveling to new places is combined with many unanticipated personal gains. Our participants have new found confidence, experience growth in maturity, and develop skills in traveling that will be beneficial for a lifetime. For many of our student travelers, leaving home and going off to college is right around the corner. Participants learn that they have the skills to take care of themselves, and the prospect of moving to college is no longer something to fear, but rather something to embrace. Juvenile Hall tours: “A real eye-opener” for kids

Valley Center 7th-grader Jay Morales thought Juvenile Hall would be grim, gray and run down.

It isn’t. But after taking an hour-long tour of the county facility Saturday morning, he still thought it was a scary place.

“I would be afraid to come here,” the 12-year-old said. “I think the worst would be you’re not with your family. You’re by yourself, not comforted.”

Jay was one of 42 teens who rode a bus from Valley Center Middle School and Oak Glen High School, with two teachers, to take part in the annual public tour of the Kearny Mesa Juvenile Detention Facility.

Youths who would normally be housed in the facility were moved away from the areas on display.

“The reason we do this is to expose what the juvenile justice system does,” county Probation Department Chief Mack Jenkins said. “There are a lot of myths and misinformation about what goes on in Juvenile Hall. This is about seeing what goes on and the different services available.”

Tours began at 9 a.m. and by noon, more than 2,000 men, women and children had traipsed through Juvenile Court and Juvenile Hall, down white halls, past cells with blue doors and beds of a single mattress on a concrete base, and group bathrooms with large windows and low-walled shower and toilet stalls.

Probation officers led groups into the slightly more plush Girls Rehabilitation Facility. There, girls who have been sentenced for an offense undergo whatever type of rehabilitation counseling, therapy or education they need before being released. Those rooms held desks and bunk beds, with TV and a sofa in a carpeted day room.

“The worst was Juvenile Hall,” Jazmyne Rodriguez, 13, of Valley Center Middle School said. “There was no privacy in the bathrooms, and the guards check on you every 15 minutes, and you get five-minute showers.”

Her classmates unanimously agreed they would never want to stay on those hard beds or wear underwear that is laundered, then handed out every day at random to different children.

While some parents bring their at-risk kids on the tours to frighten them into better behavior, Jenkins said he doesn’t believe in the “scared-straight” theory.

“That impacts the kids who don’t need to come here,” Jenkins said. “Our focus is trying to change the behavior of kids, not just lock them up. We never have more than 900 kids in our custody at any one time, but we have 4,000 getting supervised services.”

The juvenile system is for youths age 12 to 18, but Jenkins said the court can approve commitment for children as young as 10 or as old as 20. The youngest boy currently committed and facing charges was 10 when he stabbed an older boy to death in January.

Juvenile Hall, which opened in 1954, holds 359 youths, but averaged 272 at a time in the 2010-2011 fiscal year. The county runs separate East County camps for boys to serve out their sentences, and the East Mesa Detention Facility in Otay Mesa, which opened in 2004 for 290 youths.

Jenkins said that seven out of 10 kids who enter the juvenile justices system in San Diego never return to it.

On Saturday, some visitors stood in line for two hours to take a tour. One man brought his 10-year-old daughter because she had started lying and stealing, and he wanted to show her where she might end up. Lillian Wellman of southeastern San Diego brought her two grandsons to give them “a reality check” on their behavior.

“I thought it was amazing,” Stephanie Van Roy, who teaches sixth and eighth grade at Valley Center, said after her pupils’ tour. “It’s a big eye-opener for them.”

BREAKING NEWS

LIVE: Prosecution, defense make closing arguments in sentencing trial for man who killed deputy

A river flood warning in effect for brantley and columbia counties, eliminating jail tours among juvenile justice committee's recommendations, juvenile justice advisory committee presents report to state attorney nelson.

Elizabeth Campbell

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Getting rid of programs such as "Scared Straight," in which children get tours of jails to show them where they could end up if they make bad decisions, was among the recommendations by the Juvenile Justice Advisory Committee.

The committee, which was made up of 23 community members and formed by State Attorney Melissa Nelson to research the best way to keep youth out of the criminal justice system, met over a nearly two-year period and presented its recommendations in a final report on Thursday.

"The committee recommends that the State Attorney’s Office transition services provided through diversion to the Kids Hope Alliance," Nelson said.

Kids Hope Alliance CEO Joseph Pepper said his organization is happy to work even more with Jacksonville’s youth.

"The opportunity to ensure that they become taxpayers, the opportunity for us to divert them from jail and prisons -- these are things that end up allowing and enabling us to ensure that we have positive community members in the society," Pepper said.

VIEW: Final Report and Recommendations submitted by Juvenile Justice Advisory Committee

Other recommendations in the report include:

  • Pursue a funding stream to sustain juvenile justice reforms recommended in the report, such as the children's services tax in Miami-Dade County.
  • Eliminate all jail tours, which are referred to as "Scared Straight."
  • Keep juveniles away from jails and courtrooms as much as possible.
  • When children are arrested, do everything at a juvenile detention center. Currently, when children are arrested, they are processed at the adult jail and then taken to juvenile detention.

Juvenile Justice Advisory Committee Chair Buddy Schultz said incarcerating children is, without a doubt, a pipeline to more crime.

"They have a very difficult time erasing it throughout the rest of their lives," Schultz said. "So we’re hopeful, with these suggestions and recommendations, we can keep people out of the system."

Nelson said the next step is forming a transition committee. She said she hopes to see results a year from now.

Customer

Lena, our guide in Moscow was excellent. She was very knowledgable and could answer any question we had for her. We liked that she could pick up on our interests and take us places we might not have thought of to go. When we realized that one of the places we had chosen to see would probably not be that interesting to us, she was able to arrange entry to the Diamond Fund and the Armoury for us. Riding the Metro with Lena was a real adventure and a lot of fun. In Saint Petersburg we found Anna well versed in the history of the Tsars and in the Hermitage collection. Arkady in Veliky Novgorod was a very good guide and answered all of our questions with ease. Novgorod was perhaps a long way to go for a day trip, but we did enjoy it. Vasily was a great driver to have and kept us safe with good humour and skill. We enjoyed ourselves so much, my daughter says she is already planning to return. We would both have no hesistation to recommend ExpresstoRussia to anyone we know.

Just wanted to let you know that My grandson Bruno and I couldn´t have been more pleased with our week in Moscow (6/15 - 6/21). We were absolutely enchanted with the whole experience, including getting lost a couple of times in the Metro during our free time. Although both our guides (both Eleanas) were excellent, I would particularly commend the first one (she took us to the Tatiakov, the KGB tour, and to that beautiful cemetery where so many great Russian artists, authors, composers, musicians, militarists, and politicians are buried). Her knowledge is encyclopedic; and her understanding of today´s Russia as a product of its past was, for us, truly enlightening. I will be taking another tour in Russia, with my wife, within the next two or three years. I will be in touch with you when the time comes. Meanwhile, I will refer you to other potential visitors to Russia as I meet them.

Moscow, a City Like No Other

Moscow is Russia’s largest city with a population of between 12 and 13 million. It is also Europe’s largest city and when you visit Moscow, you can feel it. The layout and architecture of the city is eclectic, ranging from crooked, ancient streets and alleyways to wide, bustling boulevards, from medieval churches to Stalin skyscrapers and to modern, glass buildings towering over everything and of course in the center of it all is the Kremlin and the magnificent Red Square. Moscow is also home to a fantastic, efficient and very beautiful metro system – each station having its own special design. In fact, Express to Russia’s Moscow metro tours and excursions are some of our most popular attractions that we offer. On our Moscow tours, you will see this and more.

Moscow Tours centering on Russian History

Moscow has a long and interesting history and has been the capital of Russia in many of its different iterations – capital of the Grand Duchy of Moscow , the Russian Empire and of course the Soviet Union (who could ever forget the Soviet Union?). Moscow, was founded in the 12th century by Prince Yuri Dolgaruki (Yuri of the long arms – he really did have long arms!). From that time on, it was home to the Russian Tsars until Peter the Great moved the capital to St. Petersburg in 1703. The city has survived invasions and sieges from the Mongols, the Tartars, the Poles, Lithuanians and Napoleon but has always persevered. Our Moscow tours will enlighten you on this great history and give you insights into Muscovites and their unique culture. Our Moscow tours show you what the city is like today but also brings to life the past. Moscow never seems to sleep and is bursting with energy. A Moscow tour with Express to Russia is truly the best way of getting to know Russia’s largest and most vibrant city.

Frequently Asked Questions From Our Travelers

What is the best time to visit moscow.

Any time of year is fine depending on what you plan to do. Summertime is pleasantly warm, ideal for exploring the city and its vibrant atmosphere, but Moscow will be much busier and accommodation is more expensive. Winter can be quite cold but beautiful nonetheless, and this is unproblematic if you intend to spend most of your trip in museums and galleries. There are also various festivals and events organised throughout the year. For more information about the best time to visit, read our guide

How many days are enough in Moscow?

If you plan your itinerary strategically and aren’t averse to a packed schedule, you can cover Moscow’s main sights over a long weekend. Most popular attractions are in the city centre, and the Moscow Metro allows you to cover much ground in a small amount of time. Ensure that your accommodation is fairly central and book tickets in advance, so that you can make the most of your days. For an informative and well-organised day out, check out our Moscow day tours with options to suit all interests.

Do they speak English in Moscow?

As Russia’s capital city, tourists are well accommodated in Moscow. There should be English-speaking staff in restaurants, bars, hotels, shops and attractions in tourist hotspots, and there are also English-speaking tourist police. Transport services have English translations on their maps and English announcements via intercom; alternatively, order taxis from the Yandex Taxi app (Russian Uber), though it’s unlikely that your taxi driver will speak English. If you get stuck and cannot communicate, it’s fine to use Google Translate.

Is it safe to travel to Moscow?

It is no less safe to travel to Moscow than to any European city if you exercise common sense and look after your belongings. As with every city some regions can be more unsavoury than others, but no tourist attractions are located there. The traffic in Moscow is notorious, so exercise caution when crossing roads. Do not take unlicensed taxis; book in advance or take public transport, which is widespread and perfectly safe. If you encounter any problems, look for the special tourist police who can help you. ‘Friendly and playful’ sea creature puts on show off California. See stunning photos

A young sea creature is winning the hearts of people it encounters in California with its playful antics , stunning photos show.

Graybo the humpback whale started showing off for crowds about a month or so ago, Monterey Bay Whale Watch said on Facebook April 22.

“This juvenile whale has made quite the name for his or herself over the past month as being a very active and playful individual, showing off with some sort of surface activity during almost every encounter we have with them!” the tour group said. “On Saturday, Graybo was displaying a lot of close breaches while we sat in neutral and enjoyed the show!”

That’s the same type of friendly behavior wildlife photographer Morgan Quimby said she sees from Graybo every time she encounters the playful whale, she told McClatchy News over the phone Wednesday, April 24.

“I noticed recently every time I’ve encountered him or her, they’ve been breaching, tail throwing and generally showing very friendly and active behavior,” she said.

Quimby estimates Graybo is between 2 and 4 years old. The whale first popped up in the bay in April 2023, but because it was not with its mom, it’s harder to determine how old Graybo might have been at the time.

The whale is still on the smaller side, so whale watching experts believe it’s still pretty young. Graybo tends to be the most “friendly and playful” whale Quimby and other tour guides see, and it usually swims up close to the boat and gives a little show during tours, she said.

“It’s a good way to show passengers each whale is unique with their own personality,” Quimby said.

Gwen Stefani

It looks like No Doubt’s electrifying sets at the Coachella festival may have been an advertisement for a Gwen Stefani solo tour, as the South Star Festival in Huntsville, Alabama announced Tuesday that she and Blink-182 will be its two headliners. The festival takes place in the city’s John Hunt Park on September 28-29.

The ‘90s-flavored, 20-artist event also features Beck, Shinedown, Jane’s Addiction, Sublime, Goo Goo Dolls, Jimmy Eat World, TLC, Ludacris, Juvenile and the 400 Degreez Band, Big Boi, Gin Blossoms, Pete Yorn, Candlebox, Vanessa Carlton, Winona Fighter, Bully, Dexter & Moonrocks, and Billy Allen + The Pollies.

Popular on Variety

In addition to live music, the event will feature a sports bar on site that will provide a way for festival goers to catch the biggest football games without leaving the park — the region “takes football season seriously and so does South Star Festival,” the announcement states.

The presale takes place Thursday, April 25 from 10am ET to 10:40am ET and prices will increase on Thursday, April 25 at 10:40am ET when the public On-Sale begins. Tickets for General Admission, GA+, VIP and South Star’s Platinum package will be available on Thursday, April 25 at 10:40 am ET at SouthStarFestival.com. Be it space, nightlife, or music – you’ll have a blast exploring this new frontier.
