Las Vegas is known for its excitement, but just beyond the city’s shimmering lights lies a natural wonder that’s equally as breathtaking—the Grand Canyon.

For those looking to experience this geological marvel from a unique perspective, the Grand Canyon Deluxe Helicopter Tour (Viator) offers an unforgettable aerial adventure.

Inside this article:

The Journey Begins

Helicopter flying over the Grand Canyon.

Your excursion starts with the convenience of being picked up from your Las Vegas hotel. From there, you’ll be whisked away to the heliport where your pilot and state-of-the-art Eco-Star helicopter await.

As you climb aboard the air-conditioned chopper, you’ll find your personal seat equipped with headphones, through which you can listen to a recorded commentary detailing the sights and history of the Grand Canyon.

A Spectacular Flight

The approximately 45-minute flight to the Grand Canyon is nothing short of spectacular. You’ll soar over the vast expanse of the Mojave Desert, Lake Las Vegas, and Lake Mead.

The helicopter offers aerial views of the iconic Hoover Dam and the engineering marvel of the bypass bridge. As the chopper approaches the West Rim of the Grand Canyon, you’ll be treated to your first breathtaking glimpse of the canyon itself.

An Exclusive Touchdown Inside The Canyon

Grand Canyon landing

The highlight of the tour is the descent below the rim, where the helicopter gently touches down on a private bluff 3,500 feet below the canyon’s edge and just 300 feet above the mighty Colorado River.

In this secluded spot, you’ll enjoy a Champagne toast and light snacks under a traditional Ramada shelter—an exclusive experience that few can claim to have had.

The Return Flight

As you lift off from the canyon floor, the return flight offers a different route, allowing you to take in new vistas. You’ll fly over the Las Vegas Strip, providing a stark contrast between the natural beauty of the Grand Canyon and the man-made spectacle of the city.

Upon landing at the heliport, a driver will be ready to take you back to your hotel, bringing the exhilarating experience full circle.

I surprised my husband with a trip to Las Vegas for his 40th birthday and decided to take a tour of the strip. It was awesome!! We loved every minute!

Steve Russell Jr.

Absolutely fantastic! Took my girlfriend on the Vegas Night Flight and she loved every minute of it! As did I! I would recommend to anyone and we will be going again when we can.

Michael Brunk

I took a flight with my two adult children on December 29 and we had a great time. Well worth the cost to see Las Vegas from the air at night as part of my 51st birthday celebration. Would fly with them again in a heart beat!

De lo mejor que se pueda experimentar, helicopteros seguros, pilotos de primera y la vista del Strip...... sin palabras The best you can experience, safe helicopters, first pilots and the view of the strip...... no words..

Matt R Thompson

Loved every minute, the reception staff were great as we waited for our pilot. A really nice atmosphere and some great merch. Our pilot who looked a lot like Elvis was a bit of a joker but great with the facts and answered all our questions. We opted for the night flight and we weren’t disappointed, the lights and sites are amazing. Elvis knew when to talk and when to let frank Sinatra do the talking. (The sound track was perfect) If we’re luck enough to go back(it’s already been too long) we will definitely fly with Maverick x

Teena Hollowell

They are wonderful people. It was my first time ever flying and our pilot CLINT was awesome my husband and I are from Bend Oregon and Clint let us sit in front we did the night ride over Vegas. I'm not one for heights but I never got butterflies or was I afraid. I definitely will be doing this again and highly recommend. Thank you for a wonderful experience

What our Guests say about the Vegas Views

This helicopter adventure was so much fun and informative. Absolutely loved it.

Tony B. , Canada

Highly recommend!!!!

This was the first time I was ever on a helicopter. I was a bit nervous. The second we met Jared, I felt much better. He small talked w all of us and I instantly forgot about how nervous I was! He explained things, was funny, and really focused on making it a great experience for my kids.

Hope , Las Vegas

It was my first time on a helicopter and my boyfriend's second time. I was scared at first, but after seeing how many people were there and how many pilots were doing these tours I felt very comfortable. I wish we could have gone through the strip to see the lights on both sides, but it was a cool experience.

Great experience! I think it is a must for everyone!

Rail spikes hammered, bullet train being built from Las Vegas to Los Angeles

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A $12 billion passenger bullet train linking Las Vegas and the Los Angeles area was dubbed the first true high-speed rail line in the nation on Monday, with the private company building it predicting millions of ticket-buyers will be boarding trains by 2028.

“People have been dreaming of high-speed rail in America for decades,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg before taking a stage with union representatives and company officials at the future site of a terminal to be built just south of the Las Vegas Strip. “It’s really happening this time.”

Buttigieg cited Biden administration support for the project that he said will bring thousands of union jobs, boost local economies and cut traffic and air pollution.

Brightline West, whose sister company  already operates a fast train  between Miami and Orlando in Florida, aims to lay 218 miles (351 kilometers) of new track almost all in the median of Interstate 15 between Las Vegas and Rancho Cucamonga, California. It would link there with a commuter rail connection to downtown Los Angeles. A station also is planned in San Bernardino County’s Victorville area.

Company officials say the goal is to have trains exceeding speeds of 186 mph (300 kph) — comparable to  Japan’s Shinkansen  bullet trains — operating in time for the Summer Olympics in Los Angeles in 2028.

“I believe we’ll look back at today and say, ‘This was the birth of an industry of high-speed rail,’” Brightline Holdings founder Wes Edens said Monday.

The company aims to link U.S. cities that are too near each other for air travel to make sense and too far for people to drive.

Las Vegas has no Amtrak service. The idea of a bullet train to Los Angeles dates back decades under various names including DesertXpress. Brightline West acquired the project in 2019, and company and public officials say it has all required right-of-way and environmental approvals, along with labor agreements.

Brightline received Biden administration backing including a  $3 billion grant  from federal infrastructure funds and recent  approval to sell  another $2.5 billion in tax-exempt bonds. The company won federal authorization in 2020 to sell $1 billion in similar bonds.

Brightline West says electric-powered trains will cut the four-hour trip across the Mojave Desert to a little more than two hours. It projects 11 million one-way passengers per year, with fares that Edens said will be comparable to airline ticket costs. The trains will offer rest rooms, Wi-Fi, food and beverage sales and the option to check luggage.

Officials hope the train line will relieve congestion on I-15, where drivers often sit in miles of crawling traffic while returning home to Southern California from a Las Vegas weekend. An average of more than  44,000 automobiles per day  crossed the California-Nevada state line on I-15 in 2023, according to Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority data.

Florida-based Brightline Holdings’  Miami-line debuted  in 2018 and expanded service to Orlando International Airport last September with trains reaching speeds up to 125 mph (200 kph). It offers 16 round-trips per day with one-way tickets for the 235-mile (378-kilometer) distance costing about $80.

Other fast trains in the U.S. include Amtrak’s Acela, which can top 150 mph (241 kph) between Boston and Washington, D.C. But fast train connections for other U.S. cities have been floated, including  Dallas to Houston ;  Atlanta to Charlotte, North Carolina ;  Chicago to St. Louis ; and  Seattle to Portland, Oregon.  Most have faced delays.

In California, a proposed 500-mile (805-kilometer) rail line linking Los Angeles and San Francisco was approved by voters in 2008, but has been beset by  rising costs and routing disputes . A 2022 business plan by the California High-Speed Rail Authority projected the  cost had more than tripled  to $105 billion.

Las Vegas Sphere: Ultimate guide to seats, prices and how to see Dead Forever in 2024

las vegas aerial tour

Competing for attention in Las Vegas with neon signs, billboards and mega-resorts that resemble European palaces and Egyptian pyramids is no easy feat.

But an eight-month-old orb with a talent for shapeshifting is stealing a little of their thunder.

Sphere at The Venetian Resort , an entertainment venue that opened September 2023 just off the Las Vegas Strip , has garnered much attention since its debut for its immersive audio-visual experiences.

See the 366-foot-tall venue from the outside at night and it captivates people for its ability to project images from its exterior shell (also called the Exosphere) containing 580,000 square feet of LED lights, whether it's the Earth, the surface of Mars, a blinking eye, or an emoji. It developed a reputation for causing traffic gridlock since the projections began last year during the Fourth of July.

Inside, the venue's 160,000-square-foot display with 16K by 16K resolution displays immersive visuals, backed by the world's largest beamforming audio system, according to The Venetian .

If you're planning a trip to Las Vegas, check our guides on the best ways to get there from Phoenix , free things to do , which hotels offer free parking , and how to check for bedbugs in hotels .

If you can't get to Vegas just yet, the newly opened Caesars Republic Scottsdale hotel and upcoming VAI Resort in Glendale offer the luxury of Vegas in the Valley, though neither has a casino.

Here's everything to know about the Las Vegas Sphere.

What is the Sphere in Las Vegas?

Described on its website as "a next-generation entertainment medium that is redefining the future of live entertainment," Sphere is an immersive venue that uses haptics (seats that can move and vibrate), atmospheric simulations and visual effects to "transport audiences to places real and imagined."

The Sphere Experience, the main attraction inside the Sphere, is a two-part attraction. The first part, guided by a humanoid robot called Aura, includes a 360-degree avatar capture and a 50-foot-high holographic installation.

The second part is a viewing of an immersive film called "Postcard From Earth" by director Darren Aronofsky on Sphere's largest, highest-definition screen. "Postcard From Earth" is described as part nature documentary, part science fiction movie.

Sphere has also hosted concerts, with U2 inaugurating it with a 40-show residency that launched on Sept. 29, 2023. Sporting events are coming as well: UFC President Dana White said in February that he booked Sphere for UFC 306, scheduled for Sept. 14, 2024.

Where is the Sphere in Las Vegas?

Sphere is at the intersection of Sands Avenue and Koval Lane, just off the Las Vegas Strip and about 1 mile east of The Venetian.

Its address is 255 Sands Ave., Las Vegas.

Who owns the Sphere in Las Vegas?

Sphere is owned by Sphere Entertainment Co., which was spun off from Madison Square Garden Entertainment in April 2023.

Can you go inside the Vegas Sphere?

Yes, but it will cost you. Every guest must have a ticket for a show to enter the Sphere.

How many people does the Sphere hold?

Sphere can seat 17,500 people and has a standing room capacity of 20,000, according to The Venetian .

Do the seats move in the Sphere?

Of the Sphere's 17,500 seats, 10,000 of them are described as "haptic seats," or seats that are capable of moving and vibrating.

Where are the bad seats in the Sphere?

Any seats with an overhang of upper levels will obstruct the view of the stage and/or screen.

USA Today's 10Best suggests avoiding certain seats in the far right and far left sections in the 100 level, where rows 30 and higher are completely obstructed by the overhang.

The 200, 300 and 400 levels offer the best seats.

How long does the Sphere Experience last?

The Sphere Experience lasts just under two hours, with 60 minutes for the interactive experiences and 50 minutes for the "Postcard From Earth" film.

How long will U2 be at the Sphere?

U2 played the final show of its U2:UV Achtung Baby Live at Sphere residency on March 2, 2024.

Who is performing at the Sphere in 2024?

After U2's residency ended, the jam band Phish became the second music act to play Sphere. Their four-show residency ran April 18-21.

Members of Dead & Company, a spinoff of the Grateful Dead featuring former members Bob Weir and Mickey Hart along with singer and guitarist John Mayer, will perform a 24-show Sphere residency called Dead Forever. The residency, which runs from May 16 to July 13, will begin a year after their final tour made a stop in Phoenix .

How much does it cost to go to Sphere Vegas?

It depends on the show and what day you plan to visit.

The Sphere Experience starts at $79 per person during the week and $99 per person on weekends.

Tickets for Dead & Company's Dead Forever residency start at $145 per person.

Is the Sphere worth going to?

Sphere has attracted an assortment of highly positive and highly negative reviews from travelers.

It has a user rating of 4.3 out of 5 stars on Google. One user, Phillipe Beaumier , called Sphere "a once in a lifetime experience" and described the immersive audio and visual as "so incredible, you feel like you are part of the travel!"

Tripadvisor users gave Sphere more mixed reviews, with an overall rating of 3 out of 5 stars. Most of its bad reviews were critical of the message of the "Postcard From Earth" film in the Sphere Experience.

A one-star review from a Tripadvisor user named Kathryn W. expressed disappointment with the Sphere Experience's humanoid robots and how "a couple of robots that are comparable to (Amazon's virtual assistant) Alexa can't answer a question." Kathryn added that the moving seats "could be mistaken for someone kicking the back of your chair."

9 reasons you won't recognize las vegas on your next trip.

The most common refrain you'll hear from anyone who's been to Las Vegas — besides "what happens there stays there" — is how it's nothing like it used to be.

Vegas has been evolving since the very first pair of dice rolled down a craps table like desert tumbleweed. And it just keeps changing, so much so that it's virtually impossible for a Vegas experience to repeat itself.

Just since my visit in February, I can count on two hands the restaurants and bars that have opened, and at least one iconic resort, Tropicana, has closed . Vegas is the Snapchat of destinations; as soon as you create a memory there, it vanishes.

Here are some things to know about everything that's new in Vegas.

The Sphere is a new concert arena with what may be the highest-resolution screen in the world.

The Sphere is as cool as you think, and you don't need to spend thousands to get in.

A glowing orb recently popped up on the Las Vegas skyline. Getting inside should be high on your list.

The Sphere is an immersive concert arena with a 160,000-square-foot LED screen. It opened last year with a series of U2 concerts, with tickets hovering in the thousands of dollars. This weekend's Phish shows and next month's Dead & Co. residency are hot tickets, too.

There's another way to experience the world's largest spherical structure and what might be the highest-resolution screen of all time: Buy a $79-$119 ticket to the Sphere Experience. Once inside you can interact with AI talking robots, grab a drink and take a seat in the theater for a visually stunning film by Darren Aronofsky, "Postcard From Earth." You'll feel the wind in your hair as you soar over mountains, go on safari and hurtle toward outer space. (Really, there's a wind machine.)

The new desert-chic Durango Casino & Resort is 20 minutes off the Las Vegas Strip, and has an unusual amenity: windows to the outside world from the casino floor.

There are new resorts.

It took two decades to build, but the Fontainebleau finally opened its ornate doors in December. The tallest resort on the Strip gleams inside and out. With more than 30 bars and restaurants, loads of public art and high-end shopping, you could almost forget that it's a casino-hotel at its core.

Across the street you'll also find Resorts World Las Vegas. This collection of three Hilton brands under one roof — and several intriguing eateries, including an Asian food hall — opened in 2021 and still feels shiny and new, with a sprawling pool complex.

A 20-minute drive from the Strip, the desert-chic Durango opened at the end of last year. The main draw is the midcentury-modern casino floor, but there's also a handful of upscale restaurants and a high-end food hall, plus a tasteful pool area.

The new Fontainebleau resort's casino occupies a 42-foot-high atrium.

And they look a lot different than the casinos you might remember.

The days of flashing neon marquees, cave-like casinos and stale-cigarette-scented carpets are in the past. Las Vegas' newest resorts are clean, airy and fresh, and don't try to trick you into forgetting what time it is. The Fontainebleau installed its casino in an atrium under 42-foot ceilings, bucking the convention that gamblers will play longer if the space feels small and intimate.

At the Durango, the casino is surrounded by floor-to-ceiling windows and indoor-outdoor dining spaces. Flooding the slots with natural light might not sound that remarkable, but in Las Vegas, it is.

Some of the older casinos are getting a modern refresh, too.

Mandalay Bay is updating its rooms and adding adult-only mini-golf. Rio is undergoing a $350 million renovation; so far its exterior has been wrapped in programmable LED lighting, and it has added a food hall. The volcano show on the front lawn of the Mirage is about to be replaced with a guitar-shaped tower to represent new owner Hard Rock International.

The new Carousel Bar at the Plaza in downtown Las Vegas.

Even smoking is being reconsidered.

Downtown, the Plaza Hotel & Casino's iconic twinkling facade was transformed last summer into the circular Carousel Bar, an outdoor cocktail lounge with tiki-style drinks and retro touches, along with outdoor video poker machines. The Plaza also unveiled a nonsmoking and "social media-friendly" gaming space.

The 2,500-square-foot zone features selfie-bait backdrops and, most important, a separate air filtration system. (On the Strip, the only completely smoke-free casino resort is the Park MGM.)

It's an effort to make Vegas appeal to the next generation of gamblers.

Millennials and Gen-Z'ers don't spend as much time or money at the slots and tables. That doesn't mean they don't gamble; it just looks different, with more app-based options. Casinos are getting in on the action with mobile apps and sports betting.

Expect casino resorts to roll out more diverse amenities, from high-end bars and bowling alleys to ever-more-elaborate pool complexes and throwback musical acts.

This year's lineup for Fontainebleau's new 3,800-seat theater is tinged with '90s nostalgia, with Third Eye Blind, Hootie & the Blowfish and the Smashing Pumpkins. Kylie Minogue is in residency at the Venetian; Blink-182 and Jodeci are playing Vegas this summer; and My Chemical Romance and Fall Out Boy co-headline October's When We Were Young festival. Of course, if Wayne Newton, Donny Osmond, Rod Stewart or Barry Manilow are more your jam, they're all in residency, too.

Celebrities are doing more than performing.

Check out one of these new venues attributed to A-listers. Blake Shelton just opened a honkytonk, Ole Red. Bruno Mars is behind the cocktail lounge Pinky Ring at the Bellagio. An "immersive art experience," Shaq's Fantasy Lab opened last fall, courtesy of the basketball star. And Van Halen's Sammy Hagar will launch Sammy's Island poolside at Palms next month.

A spread from the new California-centric Sundry food hall.

The food scene just keeps getting better.

If you thought Vegas was the epicenter of fine dining because of Wolfgang Puck, then you're due for another visit. While celebrity chefs are prolific on the Strip, some of the buzziest restaurants of the moment don't even belong to Food Network stars. Those would be Los Angeles chef Evan Funke's Mother Wolf, the famed Brooklyn steakhouse Peter Luger, Texas-based fast-food chain Whataburger, and Florentine sandwich shop All'Antico Vinaio.

Buffets have been sidelined by globe-spanning food halls. Resorts World's Famous Foods imports Michelin-recognized Ah Chun Shandong Dumpling from Hong Kong and Boon Tong Kee's Hainanese chicken rice from Singapore. Get Korean fried chicken from Seoul Bird at Proper Eats Food Hall at Aria, and mezcal cocktails from Ghost Donkey in the Cosmopolitan's Block 16 food hall. Grab a vodka slice from Prince Street Pizza in the Durango's Eat Your Heart Out hall. And at the new Sundry food hall, sample dhaba-style dishes, tacos, hand rolls and fried chicken from award-winning California chefs.

Coed wellness room at Fontainebleu's Lapis Spa, which also has a snow flurry-making machine among its amenities.

Minnesotans will find something familiar.

No Minnesota chefs, as far as we can tell, have opened their own concepts on the Strip — yet. But Minnesotans will find another way to get a taste of home: snow and ice.

Yes, cold plunges are all the rage in spas everywhere. But a snow shower was something I wasn't expecting. Fontainebleau's Lapis Spa has a 14-degree flurry-making machine in one of several rooms themed to natural elements. The Qua Baths & Spa at Caesars has an Arctic Ice room.

Meanwhile, there are a number of "ice bars" on the strip, where you'll don a parka, cuddle up on a fur blanket and take shots from ice glasses on skis. When the Las Vegas summer reaches triple-digit temps, that's where I'll be.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — The final curtain will come down this summer on Cirque du Soleil’s long-running show “The Beatles Love,” a cultural icon on the Las Vegas Strip that brought band members Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr back together for public appearances throughout its 18-year run.

Cirque announced on Tuesday that the show housed at the Mirage will end on July 7, part of the iconic hotel-casino’s major renovation plan to rebrand itself into the Hard Rock Las Vegas.

Stéphane Lefebvre, CEO of the Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group, said in a statement that more than 11.5 million people have seen the show — an energetic portrayal of the Fab Four’s history and music with aerial stunts and whimsical dance numbers on a colorful, 360-degree stage.

“We are grateful to the creators, cast, crew and all involved in bringing this show to life,” Lefebvre said, “and we know The Beatles LOVE will live on long after the final bow.”

In a separate statement, Joe Lupo, president of the Mirage, thanked the Cirque performers and crew members working behind the scenes “who played a part in entertaining guests and bridged generations” for nearly two decades.

The production premiered in the summer of 2006, with red carpet appearances by both McCartney and Starr, as well as Yoko Ono and Olivia Harrison, wife of the late Beatle George Harrison. They reunited a year later to celebrate the show’s first anniversary.

According to Cirque, the show was born out of the friendship between its founder Guy Laliberté and Harrison, the Beatles’ lead guitarist who died in 2001. John Lennon was killed in 1980.

The show is set to a specialized soundtrack that earned Cirque two Grammy Awards in 2008, a first for the entertainment company. Cirque said the Beatles’ original producer, George Martin, and his son produced and mixed the 26-song soundscape, pulling from 130 songs from the Beatles’ powerhouse music catalog and archives.

The current cast includes 11 original members from the show’s inception, according to Cirque. More than 11,000 costume pieces are worn on show night, including 250 pairs of shoes and 225 wigs. Audiences throughout the show’s run, Cirque said, have been showered with 13.5 tons of confetti during the final act, which closes with the Beatles’ 1967 hit “All You Need is Love.”

“Beatles Love” is one of six Cirque productions on the Las Vegas Strip. Tickets for the final shows in July will go on sale in the coming weeks.
