A walk through

I had stayed at Morgan House, Kalimpong for three days last week and Tashiding Tourist Lodge is adjacent to it. One sunny morning, the second day of my stay, I took a walk through this property. It is located in a lush green surrounding with lots of space to roam around. The garden is not maintained as in Morgan House - it looks wild. Right now there is one building, the main one, which is receiving guests. This building is well appointed. The food is cooked at Morgan House and served at this place. So the food is good since I have had the food served at Morgan House. The good news is - eight independent cottages are coming up. They are in various stages of construction. Hope they are completed soon. All booking have to be done online or at the booking office of WBTDC. Good luck all fellow travellers. More

Nice old property

The property is connected to its more famous neighbor the Morgan House. We booked the room with terrace. It was the most spacious room with large toilet, open terrace attached to it. There was also a changing room. Service and maintenance of the property is quite good and food was nice. The area is peaceful and we walked upto the Durpin monastery which is about 15 minutes walk from here. Overall I would recommend this property for anyone looking for a peaceful stay and nice ambiance.

This is a very old building which dates back to the British colonial era. It is a wooden structure with very big and spacious rooms with a big washroom, but in dire need of maintenance. We stayed on rooms 10 and 11. One of the room was with balcony and it provides a mesmerising view. The environment is really enthralling and mesmerising. But be prepared not to expect any service from this hotel. This is a self service hotel. You have to carry your own luggage etc. The state of the room depicts a sorry picture in dire need of maintenance. Except towel all the linens were dirty and the cupboards are like garbage dump. Stay here only if you want to enjoy staying in an old and quaint property. The rooms rent GST are charged on spot by the hotel and they add a service charge without your consent. So check the invoices well before paying.

• Cleanliness

We book the first floor room #10 with rooftop . It was amazing in the lap of nature. Location is far from Kalimpong city and within the same territory of Morgan House. It is also known as Annex Building of Morgan House. The only problem is that Vodafone tower was absent. So you can feel far far from the civilization.

This is an old mansion belonging to the King of Bhutan or so i heard from the manager. It has now been leased out by the Tourism Dept of West Bengal as a tourist lodge. It is a beautiful property with most of the interiors done up in woodwork. Only two-storeys, it has rooms on the ground and first floor. We stayed at the room at the far end of the corridor looking out at the gorgeous lawn below. On a clear day, you can see the snow-capped range from the window of the room. The room was large with the bathroom annexed to it. Food was homely and served in the groundfloor dining hall overlooking the lawn. The staffers were most efficient, but please order your food beforehand as it is prepared in the main kitchen of the adjacent Morgan House tourist lodge and brought here for the boarders of Tashinding Tourist Lodge. We had a fantastic experience staying here, watching the clouds enter our room one day when it rained, and the sunshine streaming in the next day when it cleared up. Lovely place to unwind esp. with small children. This property is sold on the WBTDCL website as "Morgan House Annexe" but is essentially the Tashiding House.

These are cottages of the Morgan house annex. The views from the room is excellent. Tall trees, greenery, wild colourful flowers, birds every where. The food is typically bengali, you have to order at least one hour before for room service. The room space is very large with well equipped toilets and hot water is available. Television is there, generator is also available, water supply is abundant. You can hire a taxi from there and go for Lava/Loleygaon and Rishap on a full day tour. Enjoy and I fully recommend it.

• Sleep Quality

It was our first visit to kalimpong, and we have no idea about this hotel, but still booked it through online, and after the trip I can say one thing that we didn't do anything wrong in choosing this hotel. It is an excellent property surrounded by nature, where you can hear sound of silence. It's a perfect place for you if you want to go out from hustle-bustle of city life for a few days. Staffs are polite, cooperating, specially the manager(Mr. Chhetri) is a very helpful person. Food is costly but good. Bit out of the town but you can get share taxi easily from the gate. If one wants to make the trip memorable, then this is the best choice.

We had put up at Morgan House and took a stroll through this property again after three years. It is a nice property established over 3.5 acres of virgin land. The undergrowth that we had seen last time has given way to tiled walk ways - quaint I would say. But, unfortunately, for lack of funds, such a prime tourist lodge is not yet 100% operational. Food still is provided by Morgan House's kitchen. All the cottages are not ready. But as gathered from a young couple residing overnight at the main building, the services provided are excellent. They said they would prefer staying again at Tashiding.
