Hollywood superstar Tom Cruise shockingly split from actress Katie Holmes after five years of marriage leading to a bitter custody battle for their daughter Suri in 2012.

At the time of the high profile breakup, their daughter was just five years old and Tom is said to have been estranged from her since 2013.

Now aged 16, Suri is thought to have already been applying to colleges without the help of her dad due to their lack of relationship.

It is understood Dawson's Creek actress Katie, 44, is heavily involved in the application process as she helps her daughter to take the next step in her life.

Katie was given 'sole custody' of Suri and according to the couple's divorce documents, Tom agreed to pay Katie $400,000 a month until Suri turned 18 years old, reports the Daily Mail .

Now, Tom, 60, hasn't seen his youngest daughter in a decade after Katie refused to join The Church of Scientology.

Tom also reportedly agreed to pay all of Suri's expenses, including "medical, dental, insurance, education, college and other extracurricular costs".

A source told the Daily Mail : "Suri does not know her father anymore and she has not spent time with him in a decade. She does not go to see his movies and he has no part in her life."

The teenager is said to be eyeing up studying fashion at Fordham University in The Bronx, New York.

Katie filed the divorce documents citing 'irreconcilable differences', something Cruise is reported to not have seen coming.

At the time it was understood Katie filed for divorce in New York because it could have given her a better chance at gaining sole custody of Suri.

New York family law judges tend to not like giving fighting parents joint custody because they believe that causes endless conflicts for the children.

The actress seeked full custody so she could remove her daughter from the Church of Scientology, who was reportedly attending a Scientology-influenced school in California at the time.

Katie is alleged to dislike and distrust the church, despite Tom's enthusiasm.

On July 9 2012, Katie's lawyer confirmed the divorce had been settled, with Katie having been granted 'sole custody' of Suri.

The former couple reached an agreement out of court.

A statement from the pair said: "We are committed to working together as parents to accomplish what is in our daughter Suri's best interests.

"We want to keep matters affecting our family private and express our respect for each other's commitment to each of our respective beliefs and support each other's roles as parents."

According to TMZ, the agreement included details on what the parents were allowed to tell Suri regarding religion, including Scientology.

The restrictions were reportedly set to be eased as Suri got older.

Following the settlement, Suri was not expected to attend a Scientology school.

In 2019, author Samantha Domingo told Us Weekly that Tom was not allowed to have a relationship with Suri because she is not a Scientologist and due to the Church's belief in reincarnation, they would not view Suri as Tom's daughter.

Tom Cruise has two other children from his marriage with actress Nicole Kidman, who filed for divorce after 11 years in 2001 due to his Scientology ties.

The couple adopted Isabella and Connor , who stuck with Scientology after the split.

Bella lives in London with her IT consultant husband Max Parker, who married in a ceremony which incorporated Scientology and Christianity.

Connor, 28, opts to remain out of the spotlight having attempted to carve out an acting career. It is not clear whether he remained a Scientologist after growing up.

Tom has disagreed his Scientology belief has caused him to be estranged from Suri.

The Mirror has contacted Tom's representative for comment.

According to a news outlet, SheKnows, Tom Cruise’s child support payments are over $33,000 a month, which is $400,000 annually.

This was one of the main demands during Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes’ divorce proceedings; Tom should pay them monthly until Suri’s 18th birthday on April 18, 2024. It is reported that he would also cover Suri’s college tuition fees.

After her parents’ divorce, Suri reportedly hasn’t been able to meet her father, Tom Cruise.

Tom Cruise is known to have avoided meeting his daughter due to religious reasons.

In 2018, there were reports by media that Suri had sent heartfelt letters, phone calls, and voice messages to Tom Cruise, pleading for him to come home.

In response, Tom Cruise told the media that he would prepare to meet his daughter, but a proper meeting with her father has not yet occurred.

Suri was often seen in photos with her mother, Katie Holmes. A picture of them wearing jeans went viral, and their model-like figures became a hot topic.

Suri, who has inherited her mother’s long arms and legs, caught people’s attention with her maturity compared to her younger days.

Tom Cruise likely didn’t pay his daughter, Suri , a visit on her 18th birthday despite speculation that her coming of age could end their reported estrangement.

The actor, who has not been seen publicly with his daughter since 2012, is currently in London filming Mission: Impossible 8 which is slated for a 2025 release. Meanwhile, Suri was spotted hanging with friends on the rainy streets of New York City two days before her April 18 birthday so we’re assuming there was no father-daughter reunion.

As Suri celebrated her 18th birthday, and was even seen caring what appeared to be a gift bag from a friend, speculation mounted about whether her dad would reach out for the occasion. It is widely reported that Cruise is not in contact with his youngest daughter, whom he shares with ex-wife Katie Holmes.

Holmes filed for divorce from Cruise in 2012, in a filing that reportedly blindsided the Eyes Wide Shut actor. Reports at the time, and since, claimed that Holmes ended the marriage to escape from Cruise’s controversial involvement in the Church of Scientology.

Why Tom Cruise Will Be Paying For Suri's College Education Despite Having No Part In Her Life

It's no secret that Tom Cruise has little involvement in his daughter Suri's life. After his split from Katie Holmes in 2012, the actor didn't receive custody of his and Holmes' child. She claimed that divorce was a measure of protection, keeping Suri safe from Cruise's religion. At the end of their custody discussions, which lasted less than two weeks, the "Mission Impossible" star was awarded just 10 visitation days. Though there were some odd stipulations in their quickie divorce, Cruise didn't press the custody agreement, and since that time, he has been estranged from Suri by all accounts.

That doesn't excuse him from having to pay for her expenses, though. Initially, the agreed-upon deal stated that Cruise had to pay around $4.8 million in child support. It equates to about $400,000 annually and can be further broken down to just over $33,000 each month, according to TMZ . Considering he is worth more than half a billion, Cruise could have been ordered to pay much more — especially under New York law had the couple not wanted to settle expeditiously.

Fortunately, though the agreement specified payments would be made until Suri is 18, they also included the clause that he pays for all of her college education — which is right around the corner for teenage Suri.

Tom is only involved financially

Katie Holmes has a great relationship with her daughter Suri and just may be in the thick of helping her with college applications. Still, neither she nor Suri need any input from Tom Cruise — unless it's in dollars and cents. As far as we know, Cruise has not yet defaulted on his responsibilities in terms of financially supporting his daughter, so it's unlikely that the actor will fail to pay for her college education. It could cost him, though, especially if she gets into her top choices.

According to the Daily Mail , Suri is interested in possibly studying fashion at one of New York's premier schools. She has applied "all over the place," including institutions outside of NYC, but their source maintained that The Big Apple is where Holmes would prefer her daughter to stay for her schooling, as it is where the pair currently reside. Fashion school alone generally comes with a tuition tag of anywhere from a few thousand dollars to nearly $40,000.

Katie Holmes turned down her acceptance to Columbia University, but should Suri choose to go to her mom's alma mater (in a manner of speaking), Cruise would have to shell out even more — closer to $70,000. But thanks to his endeavors in Hollywood, most notably his long-running role in the "Mission Impossible" franchise, we're guessing tuition will basically be pennies to Cruise.

Will Katie have to contribute?

Tom Cruise's monthly child support payments are reported to total just over $33,000. That might be a drop in the bucket for him, but it surely comes in handy for Katie Holmes and Suri. The "Dawson's Creek" actor isn't destitute by any means, but still, Hollywood has seen much less of her over the years than it has of her ex-husband. For the most part, Holmes has stepped back from acting in both movies and television. More recently, she has taken to writing, directing, and producing films, such as her 2023 adaptation of the novel "Rare Objects." These days, she has also moved her talents to the stage, starring in the play "The Wanderers" in 2023.

The "Batman Begins" actor has also held several guest roles and agreed to numerous endorsement deals. We've seen her campaign for everything from Coach to Olay. Additionally, Holmes wasn't only the ambassador for Alterna Hair Care from 2013 to 2017, but was co-owner, too.

Holmes has sold some of her real estate, like her Los Angeles home in the star-studded region of Calabasas. She prefers to live in New York City with her daughter Suri, where they can enjoy the museums and theaters. Despite her business endeavors and property holdings, her net worth is estimated to be less than 5% of Cruise's, $25 million to his $600 million , making it probable that the doting mother won't have to pay up for Suri's New York fashion college tuition. We'd like to think she can have her cake and eat it, too!

Tom Cruise made a huge splash at Posh Spice's 50th birthday party in London. According to the Daily Mail , Cruise came super close to overshadowing Victoria Beckham and her star-studded guest list, which also included all of the members of her music group, the Spice Girls. According to SheKnows , Cruise's attendance means his long-standing feud with Victoria and David Beckham is now over. As the outlet explained, Cruise was super close with the A-list couple during the 2000s. However, they reportedly drifted apart after the couple rebuffed Cruise's attempt to get them to join Scientology, the religion he has openly practiced since the mid-80s. But everything is obviously okay now. Unfortunately, his decision to attend Victoria's bash is a pretty good indicator that Cruise and his daughter, Suri, likely haven't repaired their broken relationship . You see, Suri celebrated her 18th birthday  on April 18 and as far as anyone knows, she didn't seem to be on Cruise's radar .

Suri Cruise celebrated her big day without Tom

Tom Cruise was nowhere to be found as his daughter, Suri Cruise, celebrated her 18th birthday in New York City. According to TMZ , Suri decided to enjoy her birthday by spending the day with her friend as they visited various New York staples. And while her mother, Katie Holmes, wasn't photographed alongside Suri during the outing, it's easy to assume that given their closeness, she and Suri celebrated with family at a later time. Unfortunately, the same can't be said for Tom, who's been estranged from his daughter for more than a decade after Holmes filed for divorce.

TMZ reported that their last in-person meeting took place in 2006, when Tom took Suri to Disneyland. Since then, the father and daughter have presumably had zero contact. In March 2023, a source told  Page Six  Tom and Suri hadn't had a relationship for several years. The outlet also referenced Tom's past comments when he admitted he and Suri hadn't seen each other for three months shortly after the divorce. "Listen, when there is a divorce ... things change," Tom said in court during a 2012 defamation lawsuit against Bauer Media. "It's not an ideal scene. It's not an ideal situation."

Suri Cruise seems to be in great spirits

Suri Cruise may not currently have a close relationship with her father, Tom Cruise, but she doesn't seem to be too down about life in general. According to Page Six , Suri looked quite happy when she was spotted hanging out with a friend a few days before her milestone birthday. Suri also looked quite fashionable as she donned a white skirt and vibrant red sweater. Of course, she has every reason to be in  good spirits. After all, she has her entire future ahead of her, including her high school graduation coming up in June 2024 and her college career, which could possibly kick off in the fall of 2024.

According to the Daily Mail, Suri is excited to leave the nest and is already applying to colleges. "Suri is applying to schools all over the place," revealed the insider. "[Katie] really does want her to stay in New York so they can be close to each other," shared a different source. "Katie takes great pride in her but is also extremely overprotective," they continued, while also revealing that the whole college planning process has made Holmes feel "overwhelmed." Fortunately, Holmes won't have to worry about financing Suri's college education, as Tom committed to that years ago.

Suri Cruise was all smiles while out and about in New York City with friends ahead of her 18th birthday.

Crusie looked the spitting image of mom Katie Holmes while spending Sunday alongside a gaggle of her girlfriends in Soho.

The teenager, whose birthday is April 18, dressed casually cool in a red sweater with white vertical stripes, a white silk skirt and brown sandals.

She kept her dark brown hair down in loose waves, pinning her front pieces back with two hair clips.

The group seemingly stopped at a couple of shops and cafes as they embraced one of NYC’s first sunny spring days.

While it’s unclear how the teen will be spending her big birthday, it likely won’t be with her famous father, Tom Cruise.

Page Six revealed last year that Suri has been estranged  from the “Mission Impossible” star for years.

While a source told us at the time that Tom has played “no part” in his daughter’s life, another Hollywood insider told us this week that the father-daughter duo haven’t seen each other since 2012.

“Katie has safeguarded Suri and she’s a devoted mom,” the source said. “This is a girl who is a private citizen. She hasn’t lived her life in public.”

The American movie star, 61, grabbed the arm of the snapper as he lost his footing on the steps outside private members club Oswald's in London's Mayfair.

Mission: Impossible legend Tom's arrival caused much excitement outside the exclusive venue and as fans and photographers scrambled to get his attention, the man fell down.

Once the gentleman was on his feet, Tom headed into the exclusive club to celebrate fashion designer Victoria's birthday.

The incident happened just days after his daughter Suri celebrated her 18th birthday in New York, where she lives with her mother Katie Holmes .

Tom, who has had 'no part in Suri's life' for 11 years, is currently in the UK where he is filming Mission Impossible 8. 

Blockbuster regular Tom has been estranged from Suri since 2013, one year after he and Katie divorced. 

The last photo of the Top Gun actor out and about with his daughter was a trip to Disneyland in 2012, the year his divorce from Katie was finalised.

At the time of their split, it was reported that Katie had chosen to end the couple's marriage over fears about raising her daughter as a Scientologist - the religion that Tom has been dedicated to for decades.

Her decision to quit the religion, as well as the marriage, caused a major rift between the former spouses, which has seen Tom and Suri's relationship become increasingly distant over the years.

The birthday also signalled the end of Tom's reported $400,000 a year child support payment to Katie as per their divorce agreement.

Tom looked smart in a black tuxedo which he teamed with a matching bow tied and a white shirt, while he shielded his eyes behind a pair of dark sunglasses as he attended Victoria's birthday on Saturday.

Former Spice Girl Victoria stunned in a semi-sheer floor-length green gown as she hobbled into the venue on crutches, following a gym injury,  and prepared to celebrate the milestone with a string of her A-list pals.

Birthday Girl Victoria's elegant sleeveless dress featured ruffles at the waist and decorative floral detail to the side. 

Victoria was joined by her husband David who looked dashing in a black dinner suit which he wore with a matching bow tie and white shirt.

He arrived alongside the couple's daughter Harper, 12, who followed in her mother's stylish footsteps as she wore an elegant white satin dress and open-toed shoes in the same colour

Middle son Romeo, 21, wore a suit to match his famous father, as did his older brother Brooklyn, 25.

While Cruz, 19, donned a cream dinner suit which he teamed with a black bow tie and a pair of black and white brogue shoes.

The aspiring pop star completed his look with a pair of light brown braces and posed casually with his hand in his pockets.

Other guests included Eva Longoria as well as Victoria's former Spice Girls bandmate Geri Horner  who attended solo after standing by under-fire husband Christian.

Victoria has chosen one of her favourite London hotspots, the Private Members' club, to celebrate her 50th birthday, which was on Wednesday 17 April.

Oswald's has long been a favourite for the Beckham brood, with David and Victoria pictured leaving the swanky eatery on many occasions.

Given their vast celebrity circle of pals, including Gordon Ramsay and Eva Longoria, no doubt Victoria's guest list will be a who's who of big names, heading to the venue for an intimate celebration.

Oswald's is certainly credited for its discretion, with no social media presence, and even its website offers little insight into what guests can expect when they step through the unassuming front door.

The club's interior is no doubt inspired by The Gilded Age, with chandeliers, columns and red upholstered chairs, while a mantlepiece is adorned with roses and greenery, changed twice a week, according to Tatler.

Upstairs' the restaurant, where Victoria and her pals will dine in luxury to mark her birthday, boasts a stairwell lined with framed posters, paintings and dog portraits.

The restaurant itself boasts a colourful aesthetic, with patterned upholstered chairs, bold ceramics on the walls, and velvet Ikat cushions.

The South African-inspired menu and tequila cocktails are a favourite among guests, and Victoria will likely indulge in one of her few vices, a glass of wine or two.

A source previously told The Mail last week that Victoria is delighted that she will be joined by all four of her children, including son Brooklyn, for her celebration.

They said: 'It will be a small, intimate, family gathering, and it is literally the best present that she could have.

'It will be close to their London home. David has pulled a few surprises but what Victoria really wants is to be surrounded by her loved ones.

'The kids are staying for a few days, which Victoria loves, and they will all join her at her posh dinner on Saturday night.'
