Alexey Lutsenko (31 ans) a été contraint de quitter prématurément les routes du Tour de Romandie 2024 . Malade, le leader de la formation Astana Qazakstan a abandonner au cours de la 1ère étape, tout comme son équipier Igor Chzhan . Lutsenko faisait partie des outsiders de cette 77e édition du Tour de Romandie .

Tour de Romandie : Vauquelin a abandonné, victime de « douleurs à la hanche »
Fortunes diverses pour les deux coureurs d’Arkéa-Samsic Kévin Vauquelin et Clément Champoussin sur la deuxième étape du Tour de Romandie.
Un abandon et un finish aux portes du top 10 : Kévin Vauquelin et Clément Champoussin, coureurs d’Arkéa-Samsic, ont vécu deux fins de course aux antipodes, ce jeudi, sur la deuxième étape du Tour de Romandie.

Le Normand de 22 ans, qui a récemment été propulsé leader de la formation bretonne pour le prochain Tour d’Espagne , a été contraint à l’abandon, ce jeudi, à une quarantaine de kilomètres de l’arrivée. Il « ressent depuis le prologue (...) une douleur au niveau de la hanche gauche qui va nécessiter des soins de kinésithérapie, ainsi que du repos pendant quelques jours », a précisé son équipe.
Champoussin, lui, a terminé à la douzième place d’une étape remportée, à La Chaux-de-Fonds, à l’ouest de la Suisse, par le Britannique Ethan Hayter (Ineos), devant l’Espagnol Juan Ayuso (UAE-Tema Emirates) et le Français Romain Bardet (DSM).

Michael Woods one of three Israel-Premier Tech to abandon Giro d’Italia ahead of stage 6
A fter starting in Venaria Reale on Saturday with 176 riders in the Giro d’Italia peloton, the race has already lost 11 riders ahead of stage 6's gravel challenge across Tuscany. Climbers Florian Lipowitz (Bora-Hansgrohe) and Michael Woods (Israel-Premier Tech) are among the latest names forced to abandon the race.
The pair were both listed as DNS for stage 6 , a 180km ride from Viareggio to Rapolano Terme, along with Israel-Premier Tech riders Riley Pickrell and Nadav Raisberg.
Woods, Raisberg and Pickrell were caught up in a crash during stage 5 from Genoa to Lucca, with the trio ending up filling out the last places on the day at 14 minutes down.
Raisberg came away from the fall with a broken triquetral bone in his right hand and is unable to continue in the race. Woods – the team’s mountain stage hunting hope – suffered road rash and contusions and was later found to be presenting “mild symptoms of concussion”, his team reported.
"I'm really disappointed to leave the Giro d’Italia, but I have to prioritise my health," Woods said. "There are many more opportunities to come this season and I’m motivated for them."
Woods had entered the race with high ambitions of a stage win. "I haven't been to the Giro since 2018 and I want to win a stage there," he told Cyclingnews back in March. "It's a big target because that way I'll have stages in all three Grand Tours."
"I'm super disappointed, leaving your first Grand Tour is something no rider wants to do. Hopefully I can get this opportunity again, and I can come back and make it to the finish," Pickrell said in a statement on social media .
The young Canadian was a late scratch from the race on Thursday morning after his team stated they were "not willing to take the risk" of a concussion after Pickrell displayed some signs of confusion following the stage 5 crash. The abandons leave Israel-Premier Tech with five riders in the race.
23-year-old Lipowitz, who burst onto the scene at the recent Tour de Romandie with the best performance of his young career to take third place overall, is also out of the race on Thursday.
The German, who was in the midst of his Grand Tour debut, is out of the race due to sickness, his Bora-Hansgrohe team reported.
“Unfortunately, due to sickness, Florian Lipowitz will not start today’s stage of the Giro d’Italia,” the team said in a social media post. “Heal up soon, Lipo!”
Woods, Raisberg and Lipowitz join seven other names on the abandon list so far this Giro d’Italia. Robert Gesink (Visma-Lease A Bike), Eddie Dunbar (Jayco-AlUla), and Biniam Girmay (Intermarché-Wanty) are the biggest names to have headed home during the opening week, while Adrien Petit (Intermarché-Wanty) didn’t make it to the end of stage 5 due to illness.

Caruso, Bouwman, Dunbar... inquiétudes avant le Giro ?
Pareil pour le Français Cyril Barthe (Groupama-FDJ) et Koen Bouwman . Le Néerlandais de la Visma | Lease a Bike "ne se sent pas à 100%", selon son équipe. Un coup dur à moins d'une semaine du Grand Départ du Tour d'Italie . Eddie Dunbar (Jayco AlUla) se voit également dans l'obligation de quitter la course.
Le dernier a avoir annoncé son abandon est Damiano Caruso . Alors qu'il était bien placé au classement général, l'Italien de la Bahrain Victorious a subit un problème mécanique samedi, ce qui lui a fait perdre toute ambition en vue du GC. Afin de se préparer au mieux pour le Giro , où il fera partie des outsiders, il a préféré ne pas participer à cette ultime étape.

"He said already himself that he's still coming back to shape, so when he gave me the go-ahead to go, I tried and just pushed all the way to the line. A great performance from the team and I'm very happy.
"Like I said, [Ayuso] is a young guy and such a big talent. For sure he's going to win some big races in the future. He said to me at maybe 6km to go, 'Adam, you can try for the win', and from that moment on I did my best to win.
"All week we've been riding really well. One more day to go so hopefully we'll hold onto it tomorrow. It's just nice to win. I've had some bad luck in the last couple of races – I had a big crash in Catalunya and had some time off to recover and prepare again and here we are. Super happy."
Yates now takes a 19-second overall lead heading into the final stage, a flatter affair, into Geneva. Jorgenson lies second with Caruso eight seconds back in third place. An impressive ride by DSM youngster Max Poole sees him in fourth overall at 28 seconds, while Pinot is fifth at 41 seconds.
The penultimate stage of the Tour de Romandie brought the peloton to the queen stage of the race and Hors Categorié summit finish of Thyon 2000 (20.9km at 7.6%), where the overall victory would certainly be decided.
The battle for the break raged from the very start of the day, with the largely flat run to the second climb of the day at Anzère (14.6km at 6.9%) seeing 10 men eventually go clear at the head of the race.
UAE Team Emirates controlled the peloton pacemaking for race leader Juan Ayuso while prologue winner Josef Cerny (Soudal-QuickStep) was joined out front by Quinten Hermans (Alpecin-Deceuninck), Lawson Craddock, Chris Juul-Jensen (Jayco-AlUla), and Thomas De Gendt (Lotto-Dstny), among others.
KOM leader Julien Bernard (Trek-Segafredo) also made the move and duly picked up the maximum points at the opening third-category climb, as well as Anzère and the next climb at Lens shortly after.
When the riders hit the flat ground on the way to the midway mark of the stage, the break had made it three minutes up the road, with UAE keeping control ahead of the final two ascents of the day.
By the time the riders hit the first-category test at Suen (14km at 6.6%) just under 60km from the line, the break had 3:30, while Groupama-FDJ also began to contribute to the work in the peloton.
On the climb itself, meanwhile, an upping of the pace saw Bernard, Hermans and three others drop away to leave five men up front at the top – Craddock, Juul-Jensen, De Gendt, Cerny, and Ben Zwiehoff (Bora-Hansgrohe). De Gendt led the move over the top, with the peloton closing to within two minutes.
On the way down, Harold Tejada attacked from the peloton as his Astana Qazaqstan teammate Andrea Garofoli dropped back from the breakaway. They wouldn't make it to the final climb, however, with the peloton sweeping them up again at 23km to go.
At the base of the climb to Thyon 2000, the peloton moved to 1:40 back on the break as Juul-Jensen, Zwiehoff, and De Gendt pushed clear at the front. In the peloton, Israel-Premier Tech climber Michael Woods was unlucky to go down after tangling with another rider just prior to the start of the climb.
Juul-Jensen went clear at the front with 17km to go, while further back the moves and counter-moves kept coming even as the peloton closed to within a minute. The attacking would all come to nothing, though, as the peloton made the catch with 12km to go as Jayco-AlUla took over the work at the front.
Riders dropped away from the peloton as the high pace continued on the way towards the summit, and as DSM took over the pacemaking for Romain Bardet inside the final 10km, a real selection was made.
At 8km to go, race leader Ayuso was dropped, the young Spaniard not yet on top form at his first race of the season. Second-placed Matteo Jorgenson (Movistar) and fifth-placed Adam Yates and his UAE Team Emirates teammate Rafał Majka remained in the lead group, however, along with Bardet and his teammate Max Poole, Damiano Caruso (Bahrain Victorious), Thibaut Pinot (Groupama-FDJ) Simon Carr (EF Education-EasyPost), Cian Uijtdebroeks (Bora-Hansgrohe) and Eddie Dunbar (Jayco-AlUla) also up there.
Bardet kicked off the attacking at 7km to go with a couple of moves, though neither he nor Carr could break clear with their accelerations. Dunbar, Jorgenson, and then Bardet again tried to get away as the riders hit the final 5km, with those moves provoking splits in the group.
Yates took it up on the front heading into the final 4km, getting away from Bardet, Jorgenson and Poole while Caruso, Pinot and Uijtdebroeks battled back to the chasing trio. The group couldn't match Yates' pace, though, as the Briton opened up a nine-second gap heading into the final 3km of the climb. Pinot put in a decisive attack of his own a kilometre later, leaving the rest of the chasers behind with a fierce acceleration.
Back in the chase, Jorgenson led the way as he sought to limit Yates' advantage, with 12 seconds between them at the start of the day, while Pinot plugged away in a lone pursuit. Yates had too much for the Frenchman and Jorgenson, however, staying away to celebrate his second win of the season.

Tour d'Italie - Lipowitz et 3 coureurs d'Israel-Premier Tech, dont Woods, abandonnent avant la 6e étape

Révélation du Tour de Romandie, conclu à la troisième place du général, Lipowitz, 23 ans, avait poursuivi sur sa lancée au Giro. Il s'était montré très actif lors de l'ascension du sanctuaire d'Oropa, dimanche dernier. Le jeune Allemand avait conclu cette deuxième étape à la cinquième place, dans le premier groupe derrière le Slovène Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates), vainqueur en solitaire. Lipowitz occupait la 27e place du général, à 4:08 de Pogacar.
La formation Israel-Premier Tech enregistre trois abandons, les Canadiens Michael Woods et Riley Pickrell et l'Israélien Nadav Raisberg. Tous les trois ont chuté mercredi. Woods, 37 ans, présente des "légers symptômes de commotion cérébrale" et se retire de la course par précaution. Le Canadien avait remporté la 9e étape du Tour de France au Puy de Dôme l'an passé.
Des signes de commotion cérébrale ont également été identifiés chez Pickrell, 22 ans, et l'équipe ne veut pas prendre de risque. Il était la lanterne rouge du Giro avec sa 169e place à 1h00:16 de Pogacar.
Raisberg, 23 ans, souffre d'une fracture à un os de la main droite. Pickrell et Raisberg disputaient son premier Grand Tour.
Israel-Premier Tech poursuivra le Giro avec cinq coureurs. Ces différents abandons portent à 11 le nombre de coureurs qui ont quitté la course depuis le départ à Venaria Reale. Le peloton comprend encore 165 coureurs.
La 6e étape du Giro reliera jeudi Viareggio à Rapolano Terme.

DIRECT. Giro 2024: Alaphilippe s'incline au sprint face à Sanchez lors de la 6e étape

Alaphilippe a bien joué le coup
Mais il est tombé sur plus fort que lui au sprint. Et il a la classe et va féliciter Pelayo Sanchez.
La victoire pour Sanchez!!!!
La déception pour Alaphilippe, battu au sprint par Pelayo Sanchez. Plapp n'a pas fait le sprint et fini 3e. C'est terrible pour Alaphilippe!
1 km: Ca va se jouer entre les 3 coureurs!
Plapp mène.
1.5 km: Ca roule très fort devant!
Les échappés devraient se jouer la victoire finale! On y croit pour Julian.
2.8 km: Quelle course poursuite!
Alaphilippe essaye de faire tourner tout le monde, mais ça s'observe beaucoup devant.
4.2 km: Alaphilippe fait le forcing
Mais Sanchez s'accroche. Et le peloton qui revient à 27 secondes, et Bardet qui attaque.
5 km: Et voilà la difficulté
Et le peloton est revenu à 45 secondes!!!! Ca ne devrait pas suffire.
6.8 km: Toujours plus d'une minute d'avance
Mais attention, il y a encore un petit mur à 20% qui se profile.
9.5 km: Alaphilippe commence à sauter des relais
Il est cramé ou il la joue au métier?
10 km: Plapp attaque!
Alaphilippe n'arrive pas à revenir! Et ca s'est joué parce que Sanchez s'est loupé dans un virage et a amené Alaphilippe un peu dans le décor.
13.5 km: Gros coup de force des Ineos
L'écart est tombé à la minute, ca ne devrait pas suffire. Mauvaise nouvelle pour Alaphilippe.
15 km: C'est en train d'exploser dans le peloton
Ils ne sont plus que 30 ou 40 devant. Les Ineos font un gros boulot. L'écart est retombé à 1'20.
16.8 km: Le peloton reprends les intercalés
Il n'y a plus que 3 hommes en tête devant le peloton.
17 km: Aie, chute dans le peloton
Les cadors ont l'air d'avoir évité le pire.
18 km: La victoire va sans doute se joeur entre les 3 de devant
Et Alaphilippe est le grand favori, lui qui a déjà gagné les Strade Bianche.
21 km: On a bien l'impression que le peloton ne veut pas jouer la gagne
Les UAE font le tempo mais sans chercher à reprendre les hommes devant.
27.4 km: Luke Plapp fait pas semblant en tête de l'échappée
Le rouleur australien veut se replacer au classement général avant le contre-la-montre de demain.
31 km: Le peloton relâche un peu son étreinte
Et du coup le groupe Alaphilippe a 2'24 d'avance et peut croire à la victoire finale!
39.5 km: Alaphilippe en tête en haut de la montée
Pendant ce temps, Martinez et Uijtdebroeks sont rentrées, mais les échappés n'ont que 1'32 d'avance.
41 km: Aie, la petite chute dans la montée!
Deux des 4 premiers, Uijtdebroeks et Martinez sont touchés tous les deux avec O'Connor. Rien de grave et ca devrait rentrer mais ca va demander beaucoup de boulot.
42 km: Plapp, Sanchez et Alaphilippe s'isolent devant
C'est vrai que l'écart fond vraiment fort. Le peloton qui est d'ailleurs en train de se scinder en deux. A l'arrière Laporte a crevé. C'est pas son année.
44.5 km: Le groupe de tête attaque le deuxième secteur
Et cette fois, il est bien en montée.
46km: L'avance des échappés fond
Ils ont déjà perdu 1 minute et Luke Plapp n'est plus maillot rose virtuel. Du coup il en remet un coup en tête de l'échappée.
47 km: Et voilà le peloton dans le premier chemin
Les Ineos font la course en tête.
49 km: Et voilà le premier chemin pour les échappés
Ca attaque prudemment le secteur.
56 km: Tiens, Milan et les sprinters est en train de rentrer
Les échappés ont 3'12 d'avance sur le peloton et 3'28 sur le groupe Milan. Et dans 5 minutes, on arrive au premier secteur de chemin de terre.
69 km: Le peloton s'est bien relevé
Après ce début d'étape complètement fou, on comprend qu'ils ont besoin de souffler.
71 km: Kaden Groves ne se relève pas lui
Va-t-il réussir à piéger tout le monde pour la victoire d'étape?
73 km: Pogacar est-il prêt à lâcher son maillot rose?
Luke Plapp, qui est dans l'échappée, est 21e au classement général, avec 2'33 de retard. Et il a déjà 2'04 d'avance dans l'échappée.
76 km: Groves en tête du sprint intermédiaire
C'était prévisible, mais Fiorelli a quand même tenté de lui disputer le sprint. Pendant ce temps, le peloton s'est bien relevé. 1'47 d'avance.
82 km: Les échappés prennent un peu le large
Un tout petit peu (43 secondes), mais c'est le plus depuis le début d'étape.
84 km: Ca y est, ils sont 6 en tête
Ca fait un bon groupe, d'autant que Kaden Groves va sans doute se relever après le sprint intermédiaire.
86 km: Alaphilippe est avec Kaden Groves
et Pelayo SAnchez. Luke Plapp, Trentin et Marcellusi sont en contre.
88 km: Attaque de Julian Alaphilippe
Un gros groupe à 26 coureurs, ca lui convient moyennement. Ils sont de nouveau 3 en tête devant les 23 du groupe 2 et le peloton mené par les UAE.
90 km: On a maintenant un gros groupe devant
Mais alors vraiment gros groupe, avec même Kaden Groves, qui va aller faire le sprint intermédiaire de Colle di Val d'Elsa. Il y a tellement de monde qu'il y a même un UAE.
93 km: Et ça ressort derrière
Un groupe de contre-attaque est sorti du peloton. Et du coup les UAE essayent de faire la police et l'écart tombe à 11 secondes.
100km: Cette fois elle est bien partie.
Enfin une échappée, après 80 km de course. Fiorelli va prendre les points de la montagne, et les UAE prennent le contrôle du peloton et se relèvent. On devrait voir Alaphilippe et ses compagnons prendre un peu le large.
101 km: Julian Alaphilippe tente de sortir
Il est avec Aurélien Paret-Peintre et Fiorelli.
106 km: Du coup c'est en train de lâcher par l'arrière
C'est la conséquence du rythme effrené depuis le départ et encore plus dans la montée de Volterra.
106 km: Deux Français, Costiou et Paret-Peintre en tête
Mais le peloton ne veut toujours laisser partir personne.
109 km: Nous voila au pied de Volterra
Le début des collines de Toscane. Et ca essaie toujours de sortir.
114 km: Dans 4 km, on arrive au pied de Volterra
On peut raisonnablement penser que la course se lancera vraiment là. Sauf que les coureurs vont entamer les difficultés déjà un peu rincés puisqu'ils ont fait les 70 premiers kilomètres à fond pour essayer de créer des échappées.
116 km: Benjamin Thomas essaie de sortir
Il y a pas mal de candidats à l'échapée.
123 km: Toujours pas d'échappée
A ce rythme là, le peloton va arriver grouper au pied de Volterra.

2e sur la première étape, Maximilian Schachmann tente sa chance. Mais le peloton est toujours groupé après 15 kilomètres de course.

L'Italien Martin Marcellusi, de l'équipe invitée VF-Group Bardiani, essaie de sortir. Il n'ira pas bien loin avec le peloton à ses trousses, ça ressort.

Personne ne parvient à s'isoler pour l'instant même si l'Italien Andrea Piccolo tente sa chance à plusieurs reprises. Le peloton est groupé et l'allure est rapide.

On assiste à une attaque dès le kilomètre 0 avec un coureur de la formation EF Education - Easy Post. Plusieurs coureurs sont motivés.

Un 3e abandon pour Israël-Premier Tech
Après Michael Woods et Nadav Raisberg, la formation Israël - Premier Tech perd également Riley Pickrell ce jeudi. L'équipe ne veut pas prendre le risque quant à une éventuelle commotion cérébrale.

Il y a 13 ans, le Belge Wouter Weylandt trouvait la mort à 26 ans après une chute lors d'une étape du Tour d'Italie. Depuis, le dossard 108 est retiré sur le Giro. Vainqueur ce lundi, Tim Merlier a rendu hommage au défunt sur la ligne d'arrivée en effectuant un "W".
Trois abandons annoncés
Malade, Florian Lipowitz (Bora-Hansgrohe) renonce à prendre le départ de cette 6e étape. L'Allemand s'était révélé sur le récent Tour de Romandie où il avait pris la troisième place. Vainqueur d'une étape sur le Tour de France 2023, le Canadien Michael Woods (Israël-Premier Tech) présente des symptômes de commotion cérébrale et s'arrête aussi, comme son équipier Nadav Raisberg, blessé à la main. Les deux hommes ont été victimes d'une chute ce mercredi.
Par ailleurs, le Danois Mikkel Honoré, qui a attaqué lundi, souffre d'une fracture costale. Pour l'heure, il est toujours attendu au départ.
