History of Tourism :

There is a perception that Andaman is coloured only in blue and it is the blue sea and white sands that are the only companions of blue sky but green is coloured in the lofty mountains of Andaman..

which is unknown to many. Other than marine creatures, rich flora and fauna are explored in the lands of Andaman. Andaman forest trekking is commenced from the rocky terrains, rough trekking trails of Mount Harriet to Madhuban, a 16-kilometre trek at South Andaman. Saddle peak, being the highest peak of Andaman with an elevation of 732 meters above sea level, its dense forest offers the spectacular vision of valleys, and also there are huts, benches kept for taking a repose. Andaman forest trekking may extend up to a week depending upon the extent of adventure a traveller seeking for or according to the tour packages of Andaman. Watch of wild creatures, exotic varieties of flora and fauna, tranquil water bodies, and chirruping of birds are the gift of a trekking in Andaman. Guided trekking is offered to the avid adventurers and Chidiya tapu is the bird's paradise where trekking is made possible, finally to reach Kalapahad. Another trekking trail is from Havelock passing through the mangrove meshes to reach Elephant beach. Andaman archipelago is rich in unique wild fauna hidden deep in the thick forests of mountains.

A fishing adventure in Andaman is an experience unlike any other. The archipelago of Andaman & Nicobar is one of the best destinations for popping and jigging in whole of South East Asia due to a large quantity..

and size of the fish found here. Fish weighing more than 20 kg can be spotted in the islands and there are many other species that can be caught on popping, spinning and jigging activities here. Amongst the most popular fish found in Andaman are red snapper, grouper, coral trout, big Spanish mackerel, barracuda, bluefin, bigeye and pilot trevally, sailfish, wahoo, marlin, dogtooth tuna, yellow fin tuna and bonito along with the famed Giant Trevally (GT) There are some excellent jigging spots and drop-offs in the island where anglers can catch Giant Trevally within 10-15 minutes from the jetty. While there are few species of fish that can only be caught in a particular season, GT’S and Doggies can be up for the game all through the year. Moscow City Tourism Committee organizes conference for Indian MICE market stakeholders

New Delhi [India], April 24 (ANI): Recognising market demand, the Moscow City Tourism Committee organized a conference for representatives of the Indian MICE industry, to introduce them to the tourism strengths of the Russian capital.

MICE stands for Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions, and is a type of tourism in which large groups, usually plan things well in advance.

The event took place on April 19 in Delhi and brought together over 100 participants from MICE agencies of both countries, corporate customers, representatives of the travel industry in Moscow, Aeroflot and the Indian branches of Sberbank.

Business tourism is one of the most promising directions for Moscow.

In 2023, the capital was visited by 3.7 million business tourists - 7 per cent more than in 2022. And India remains one of the leaders among visitors from non-CIS countries in terms of the number of business travellers.

"The Russian capital as a centre of business tourism and corporate events is already an established and a strong brand in the international arena," commented Anastasia Popova, Deputy General Director for International and Industry Cooperation of Project Office for the Development of Tourism and Hospitality in Moscow.

"Now our task is to demonstrate to our Indian partners all the possibilities of organizing high-value MICE events in Moscow in combination with already proven tourist programs," said Popova.

At the Shaping MICE Future Conference, industry experts from Russia and India pronounced statements and speeches on the future of MICE events in these two countries, a presentation of the MICE potential of Moscow was showcased, and an analytical report on the state of the outbound MICE market in India was presented to the visitors.

During the panel discussion, participants assessed the current status and interaction peculiarities with the MICE market in India and developed recommendations for the MICE industry in Moscow during the general brainstorming session.

Representatives of the Indian MICE industry participated in B2B negotiations to find new cross-partners in the Moscow business environment and among representatives of the hospitality industry.

Representatives of the MICE industry took part in the event from Moscow.

Among them were DMC (Grand Rus, Academservice, Headed Goose, Satguru Travel, Isba Rus, Hug the Bear, Mellenium Group) as well as representatives of other partners interested in the development of MICE cooperation between Russia and India: Global transfers provider i'way and hotels Edge Seligerskaya and Edge Vinogradovo Moscow by Rotana.

"In 2024, we have witnessed a significant surge (more than quadruple) in the demand for transfers by Russians visiting India, both for business and leisure purposes. Muscovites are leading the trend, with 80 per cent of transfer bookings originating from the capital since the beginning of the year. Additionally, we observe a growing interest from Indian tourism agencies in exploring Russia, resulting in a substantial increase in our collaboration," commented Dmitriy Saraykin, co-founder of Global Transfer Provider i'way.

The Shaping MICE Future conference allowed the Moscow City Tourism Committee to form a pool of MICE industry representatives in Moscow to prioritize incoming requests for events and clarify India's requirements for business and corporate events to build mutually effective work. Indian colleagues received up-to-date information about Moscow as a safe and attractive MICE destination and were able to find potential partners among representatives of the MICE industry of the Russian capital and were able to present the MICE market in India.

"The event served as a remarkable platform for fostering meaningful dialogue and collaboration within the tourism industry. The event provided us with invaluable opportunities to engage with key stakeholders from the tourism department, as well as tour operators and service providers. The insights gained during the event underscored the Moscow City Tourism Committee's keen interest in the Indian outbound market, and we are optimistic about the promising prospects for Moscow as a destination, particularly in the post-pandemic landscape. We firmly believe that with concerted efforts and strategic initiatives, Moscow has the potential to emerge as a top-choice destination for Indian tourists," said Mudit Mathur, director of Tours Delite India, representing Academ Service - Russia in India.

The conference also assessed the solutions to foreign demand for non-standard venues and elements in MICE programs, such as museums, parks, theaters and others. Holding MICE events at offbeat locations, such as the State Historical Museum, the Moscow Planetarium and Khudozhestvenny Cinema, is becoming popular.

Holding MICE events at offbeat locations, such as the State Historical Museum, the Moscow Planetarium and Khudozhestvenny Cinema, is becoming popular. This helps to attract conference organizers and creates a unique experience for the participants. Working in this format, many visitors who came to Moscow on a business trip want to return with their families and spend time as regular tourists.

In 2023, 60 thousand guests from India visited Moscow – a quarter more than a year earlier. This year, according to the results of January and February India entered the top 5 countries in terms of the volume of e-visas issued. E-visa was one of the significant factors in the recovery of demand for hotel services and high utilization (76%) of Moscow hotels in 2023 and, as a consequence, the growth of international tourist traffic, the activation of business and classical tourists from India, China, Iran, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and so on.

One of the significant initiatives launched to support the growth of the tourist flow is the Moscow MICE Ambassadors Program – an online certification program for representatives of the Indian market, which aims to create demand for Moscow as a MICE destination.

The Moscow City Tourism Committee and NIMA (Network of Indian MICE Agents) jointly launched the pilot project last year. The first 50 people from the Indian side who underwent the training and learned the intricacies of organizing business events in the Russian capital have received the relevant certificates. In 2024, the program will be made available to other MICE operators as well and is expected to expand to a total of 200 Moscow MICE Ambassadors by the end of the year .

GB's Ghanche, Kharmang districts need to be promoted as tourist hotspots

The Ghanche and Kharmang districts of Baltistan need to be developed and promoted as tourist spots, which will help increase employment and business activities and bring about socio-economic prosperity, Deputy Director Tourism, Baltistan region Rahat Karim Baig told WealthPK.

"Located in Baltistan region, both places are full of tourist potential. In the summer season, a good number of domestic and foreign tourists visit these places. Kharmang is located about 127 kilometres from its regional capital Skardu, while the Ghanche district is about 764 kilometres away.

"The tourist footfall in Kharmang is considerable, but the residential facilities are not enough to accommodate tourists. In the Ghanche district, the tourist inflow is less than its potential. Ghanche is rich in breathtaking landscape and old places, while Kharmang is known for its sparkling natural water channels, vast plains and memorials. Social forestry at a vast level is another prominent feature of this area. It is worth seeing and is a true model for sustainable income and environmental protection," he said.

Rahat told WealthPK that the Baltistan tourism department had calendared back-to-back local festivities to promote both areas.

"These events will be promoted worldwide through a special web portal. Some of its features will be the current route and weather updates, travelling and residential packages, current updates on new additions, introduction of nearby visiting places, and health and emergency facilities. The addition of new features will continue according to the requirement. The related tourism department will also focus on establishing new resorts, and rest areas and developing the existing tourist facilities.

"The tourism sector is a regular and sustainable source of income for the area people. Training locals in the hospitality sector as tour guides and in other tourism-related areas is also a basic need. The tourism department considers it a priority. Shortly, it is expected that the basic or advanced training will be arranged for the local people according to their ability. Some private institutes have already started doing so and the young students are joining enthusiastically," he added.

Talking to WealthPK, CEO Karakoram Adventures Mubarak Hussain said the promotion of Ghanche and Kharmang districts will prove beneficial in many ways. For example, it will bring development and prosperity to the areas and present them as tourist attractions.

Besides its natural beauty, the Baltistan region is rich in historic places like the Buddhist carvings in Manthal and the ancient miraculous mosque, locally called the "Chaqchan Mosque" in Khaplu. Like these districts, there is a dire need to promote every tourist spot according to its unique features so that this industry may flourish," he added.

US tourists face 12 years in prison for accidentally bringing ammo to Caribbean island

The u.s. state department is warning travelers about strict new laws in turks and caicos islands that carry a mandatory minimum sentence of 12 years for bringing guns or ammunition to the island: "if you bring a firearm or ammunition into tci, even inadvertently, we will not be able to secure your release from custody", by leslie gaydos • published april 23, 2024 • updated on april 25, 2024 at 8:56 pm.

An Oklahoma woman was reunited Tuesday with her young children after being detained for almost two weeks in Turks and Caicos Islands for allegedly violating their strict guns and ammunition law. Her husband is being held in the British Overseas Territory near the Bahamas.

Ryan and Valerie Watson, who live in Oklahoma, left for Turks and Caicos Islands on April 7 to celebrate the 40th birthdays of Ryan and two friends. When they went through security for their return flight, their carry-on was flagged and searched and officials found a Ziploc bag of bullets.

"They were hunting ammunition rounds that I use for whitetail deer," said Ryan, "and I recognized them and I thought, oh man, what a bonehead mistake that I had no idea that those were in there."

The two shared their story virtually with NBC10 Boston last week before their first court hearing. They were stuck on the island, their passports confiscated, separated from their young son and daughter.

"When I heard that, I immediately was terrified because I was like, we can't both be in prison for 12 years. We have kids at home. And this is such an innocent mistake that we didn't even know we weren't– we didn't even know it was there. So yeah, my immediate thought was our kids and them being, you know, parentless for, for that long," Valerie said.

The Watsons were questioned and charged with possession of ammunition. In 2022, Turks and Caicos passed an amendment with stiffer penalties for possession of weapons or ammunition, increasing the mandatory minimum prison sentence to 12 years.

Mother's warning after son's 8-month Turks and Caicos prison sentence: ‘It's not behind us'

Last September, the U.S. Embassy in the Bahamas issued a travel alert warning Americans after a tourist from Indiana got an eight-month prison sentence for possession of ammunition.

The alert says: "We wish to remind all travelers that declaring a weapon in your luggage with an airline carrier does not grant permission to bring the weapon into TCI [Turks and Caicos Islands] and will result in your arrest.

"We strongly encourage you to carefully check your luggage for stray ammunition or forgotten weapons before departing for TCI. If you bring a firearm or ammunition into TCI, we will not be able to secure your release from custody. You are subject to TCI laws and must follow local law enforcement procedures," the alert continued.

Bryan Hagerich was detained by Turks and Caicos authorities after a family vacation in February when hunting ammunition was found in his luggage before he boarded a flight home. He said the ammunition was found in a bag he frequently used for weekend hunting trips.

"I've been here for almost 70 days now after posting bail. I've been out, right now just waiting to go to the hearing. That's where my case would be heard, then following that would be sentencing," Hagerich said.

Hagerich, who played baseball professionally and was once drafted by the Florida Marlins, lives in Pennsylvania with his wife and two young kids. He spent eight days in prison before posting bail and is awaiting a May 3 court hearing.

"It's incredibly scary. You know, you just don't know what the next day may bring. You know, what path this may take. You know, you're in a completely different culture, a different country by yourself. You know, it's certainly a lot different than packing your bags and going away with your family for a few days. It's been the worst 70 days of my life," Hagerich said.

He and the Watsons are also dealing with the financial strain of paying for an extended stay and being away from their jobs.

Ryan and Valerie Watson in Turks and Caicos Islands

"We've already talked, and we're like, what if, you know, what if we lose our house? Which, when we moved to Oklahoma, we built a home that we thought was our forever home. And to think that this is going to ruin us..." said an emotional Valerie.

"This is something that we may never recover from," Ryan said.

"I'm just very anxious, eager to get home to my family," said Hagerich. "This has been too long. You know, it's just had so much irreparable harm to my family, that, you know, I just can't continue to see them struggle anymore. I just want to hug my family and start this healing process together."

After their hearing yesterday, Ryan was sent to jail; he was granted bail at a hearing on Wednesday. Charges were dropped for Valerie on Monday and she is now back in Oklahoma with her two children.

The judges in Turks and Caicos Islands are able to make exceptions to the mandatory minimum sentence if they determine there are "exceptional circumstances" in a case.

NBC10 Boston reached out to the U.S. Embassy in the Bahamas and Turks and Caicos Islands' tourism bureau about the Watsons' situation and have not heard back. We contacted the State Department and a spokesperson told NBC10 Boston they are aware of the arrest of U.S. citizens in Turks and Caicos and that, "The U.S. Department of State and our embassies and consulates abroad have no greater priority than the safety and security of U.S. citizens overseas."

The spokesperson added, "When a U.S. citizen is arrested overseas, we stand ready to provide all appropriate consular assistance. In a foreign country, U.S. citizens are subject to that country's laws, even if they differ from those in the United States… As our security alert from September 22, 2023 states, in the Turks and Caicos Islands (TCI), firearms, ammunition, and other weapons are not permitted. TCI authorities strictly enforce all firearms related laws. The penalty for traveling to TCI with a firearm, ammunition, or other weapon is a minimum custodial sentence of twelve (12) years. If a traveler brings a firearm or ammunition into TCI, the U.S. Department of State will not be able to secure their release from custody. Travelers are subject to TCI laws and must follow local law enforcement procedures."

The State Department said they are unable to provide the number of U.S. citizens charged with weapon/ammunition possession since the department is unable to track local arrests.

But law enforcement officials in Turks and Caicos Islands acknowledged Wednesday in a statement that three Americans are out on bail in such cases.

"The Firearms Ordinance applies to all persons present within the Turks and Caicos Islands regardless of status or origin," read the statement from the offices of the attorney general and the director of public prosecution.

Also Wednesday, the U.S. Embassy in the Bahamas issued a new statement urging all travelers to take care looking for weapons or ammunition when leaving the U.S.

" Carefully check your luggage for stray ammunition or forgotten weapons before departing from the United States ," the warning says in bold, going on to note that enforcement in Turks and Caicos Islands is strict, legally declared weapons aren't allowed in the territory and TSA screening may not turn up ammunition in baggage on the way out of the country.

" If you bring a firearm or ammunition into TCI, even inadvertently, we will not be able to secure your release from custody. You are subject to TCI laws and must follow local law enforcement procedures," the statement said.

Shapiro Administration Opens Application Period for Sports Marketing and Tourism Program Grants

  • April 22, 2024

Pennsylvania is a world-class destination, with the most passionate and dedicated fanbase in the world – and Governor Josh Shapiro’s Administration is working hard to attract more marquee sporting events to the Commonwealth to drive tourism and economic growth.

SMAT has helped bring nationally known sporting events to Pennsylvania – including the 2026 World Cup, the 2025 United States Men’s Open, the 2024 United States Women’s Open, and more.

Harrisburg, PA – Today, Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) Secretary Rick Siger announced that the application period for grants through DCED’s Sports Marketing and Tourism Program (SMAT) opened this morning, April 22 at 9:00AM EST. The application period will close on June 30 at 4:00PM EST.

The Sports Marketing and Tourism Program was created to attract high-quality, amateur, and professional sporting and e-sports events to Pennsylvania. The goal of the investment in the program is to capitalize on the influx of tourism that comes with hosting a major national or international event, which can increase sales to both large and small businesses in the surrounding area and in turn boost the regional economy, as well as improve the quality of life for residents.

“This is an exciting time for Pennsylvania as we prepare to host a number of incredibly exciting events in the coming years, including the 2026 World Cup, the 2024 USGA Women’s Open, and the 2025 USGA Men’s Open,” said Secretary Siger. “SMAT is helping to bring major events like these to the Commonwealth, providing a huge boost to our economy. With the new application period opening up, we look forward to supporting even more major sporting events here in the coming years.”

Eligible program applicants include a municipality, a local authority, a nonprofit organization, or a legal entity that meets all of the following criteria:

  • The applicant participates or plans to participate in a competitive selection process;
  • The site selection process is conducted by a Site Selection Organization not located in Pennsylvania; and
  • The applicant is seeking to secure a single year or multiyear commitment from a site selection organization to conduct high quality, amateur and professional sporting or esports events at one or more locations in Pennsylvania.

Last September, DCED announced the previous round of SMAT grant approvals , with $5 million in grant funding awarded. Recipients included Philadelphia Soccer for the 2026 World Cup in Philadelphia, the United States Golf Association (USGA) for the 2025 United States Men’s Open in Oakmont, and the 2024 United States Women’s Open in Lancaster.

Applicants can use DCED’s Electronic Single Application (ESA) to apply. For full program guidelines, visit the Sports Marketing and Tourism website .

The top Medicaid official in Montana’s state health department has submitted his resignation and will be taking a job in the private sector, an agency spokesperson said Thursday afternoon.

Mike Randol will leave the role of state Medicaid director almost two years after taking the position under the prior head of Gov. Greg Gianforte’s Department of Public Health and Human Services, Adam Meier. Department spokesperson Jon Ebelt said Randol’s resignation was accepted April 23 and his last day will be on May 10.

“Mike has made lasting contributions to Montana’s Medicaid program during his tenure with DPHHS,” health department director Charlie Brereton said in an emailed statement. “I’m grateful to Mike for his service and wish him well as he returns home to Kansas City and enters the private sector.”

Randol was previously employed at Cerner Corp., a health technology firm, before assuming the Montana position . Prior to that, he had run Medicaid programs in Iowa and Kansas. Ebelt did not respond immediately to additional questions about the company Randol is joining or the nature of his new job.

The state’s largest agency has seen a steady reshuffling of top leadership since Gianforte took office in 2021. Brereton, 29, took over as director in 2022 upon Meier’s departure, roughly a month after Randol joined the department. Other high-level departures include Human Services Executive Director Erica Johnston, a holdover from the administration of former Gov. Steve Bullock, and Chief Healthcare Facilities Officer Will Evo, who had been hired by Meier.

During Randol’s time in Montana, the department successfully applied for a Medicaid program waiver expansion that created new reimbursement opportunities for substance use disorder treatments and services, a key priority of the Gianforte administration. The agency also implemented massive increases to many Medicaid reimbursement rates across behavioral health, senior and long-term care and developmental disabilities sectors.

But the agency has also navigated complex challenges, many of which landed in Randol’s wheelhouse. He oversaw continued turmoil and staffing shortages at the Montana State Hospital in Warm Springs, which lost its federal certification before he joined the department. Additionally, over 120,000 Montanans lost Medicaid coverage as mass-eligibility reviews were conducted during the last year and Medicaid providers have complained about lags in Medicaid reimbursements and contract payments in recent months.

Ebelt said Thursday that Brereton had appointed Rebecca de Camara, the current administrator of the Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities Division, as acting Medicaid director beginning May 13. De Camara’s position will be backfilled by deputy division administrator Meghan Peel.

Ebelt said the Healthcare Facilities Division, which includes the Montana State Hospital and is situated under Randol’s division, will report directly to Brereton in the interim.

The department, Ebelt continued, “will both consider internal candidates and launch a national search” for a new Medicaid director.

LAKE BUENA VISTA — Disney World’s fire department has a new look.

The Gov. Ron DeSantis-backed tourism oversight district approved Wednesday a rebranding of what was previously known as the Reedy Creek Fire Department.

The agency is now called the District Fire Department. Fire officials unveiled a new logo in January, which received official approval Wednesday from the district’s board.

“It’s a wonderful new name and logo,” said Charbel Barakat, acting board chairman.

The District Fire Department's new logo (Handout from the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District)

The Fire Department was one of the last remnants of the former, decades-long name of the special district. Last year, state lawmakers changed the name from the Reedy Creek Improvement District to the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District, part of an overhaul led by DeSantis .

Created in 1967, the 39-square-mile special taxing district provides fire protection, roads and other government services for Disney World and nearby properties. For decades, Disney effectively self-governed the district by electing the board’s five members. Last year, the Florida Legislature upended that arrangement and gave the governor the power to appoint the board members.

Also on Wednesday, Board members welcomed a new administrator, Stephanie Kopelousos , who served as DeSantis’ legislative affairs director and then worked on his presidential campaign. Before moving to the governor’s office, she served as Clay County manager and secretary of the Florida Department of Transportation.

She is replacing Glen Gilzean in the $400,000-a-year administrator job. DeSantis appointed Gilzean, another political ally, to serve as the interim Orange County supervisor of elections. Gilzean said in a television interview he intended to resign as the district’s administrator, but district officials have not provided his resignation letter or any other terms of his exit.

Board Chairman Martin Garcia also resigned from his leadership post. DeSantis appointed Orlando businessman Craig Mateer to the board, but a new chairman has not been selected.

Local pharmacist charged with attempted sex trafficking of a minor and child sex tourism

MIAMI – On April 19, a local pharmacist was charged by criminal complaint with attempted sex trafficking of a minor and attempted travel to engage in illicit sexual conduct.

According to the criminal complaint and the underlying affidavit, law enforcement officers stopped Stefan Andres Correa, 42, of Miami, Florida, attempting to board a flight from Miami to Bogota, Colombia. It is alleged that, law enforcement officers discovered nine cellular phones in Correa’s possession containing videos of Correa engaging in intercourse with purported minor children, as well as a chat exchange with a suspected sex trafficker, where Correa allegedly paid for commercial sex with children aged between 10 to 12 years old in Colombia. According to the allegations, during the chat exchange, Correa agreed with the suspected sex trafficker to meet with the minor victims once he arrived in Colombia.

Correa made his initial appearance on April 19. A detention hearing is scheduled for today, April 23, at 10:00 a.m. If convicted, Correa faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years in prison with a maximum sentence of life in prison as well as up to a lifetime of supervised release.

U.S. Attorney Markenzy Lapointe for the Southern District of Florida and Special Agent in Charge Anthony Salisbury of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), Miami made the announcement.

HSI Miami investigated the case with assistance from HSI offices in Cleveland, Ohio, and Bogota, Colombia, as well as U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).  The Narcotic and Dangerous Drug Section’s Office of the Judicial Attaché in Bogota, Colombia, also provided critical assistance. Assistant U.S. Attorney Lauren Astigarraga-Little is prosecuting it.

A criminal complaint contains mere allegations, and all defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse, launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice. Led by the U.S. Attorney’s Offices and the Criminal Divisions Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS), Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate better, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
