With a little time before going to work, I dipped my toes in the Solomani chapter. I own other editions featuring them but this writeup gives me a better appreciation for them. Can't wait to thoroughly read the Drone and Hiver chapters.

Aliens of Charted Space 2 details three of the most misunderstood cultures of Charted space – the Solomani, the Droyne and the Hivers. Despite the fact they are the original humans, the Solomani are confusing to outsiders and often portrayed as despicable in Imperial propaganda. The Droyne and the Hivers are alien in both physical form and way of thinking. Both make many outsiders uneasy – and with good reason.

This book contains rules for creating Travellers from each of these alien races, High Guard additions and new ships, and Central Supply Catalogue entries for their new equipment.

The Solomani

The Solomani are the original humans, left behind on Earth when the Ancients transplanted Humaniti throughout Charted Space. The Solomani are convinced of their own superiority and the ‘Call to Greatness’ felt by all their people. They have much to be proud of; inventing the jump drive and conquering the vast Vilani Imperium to name but two of their achievements. Yet there is a darker side to Solomani society, with the ever-present agents of Solomani Security reporting on the words and deeds of every citizen. Aliens of Charted Space Volume 2 reveals the motivation of the Solomani people and why they genuinely believe they are better than everyone else.

Scattered all across Charted Space are communities of Droyne; some voyaging among the stars and others sharpening rocks to use as tools. The Droyne would be among the most enigmatic of all the people in Charted Space even if they were not known to be a remnant of the Ancients. Droyne do not explain their often bizarre actions, but there must be a logic to them. This book reveals the secrets of this strange alien race.

The most physically alien of all people in Charted Space, the Hivers are renowned for their ability to manipulate others into doing their bidding. They are alleged to have manipulated whole starfaring societies, altering the course of their history. Apparently emotionless yet ever-curious, the Hivers control a huge federation in which many races serve a role created for them by the Hivers. Aliens of Charted Space Volume 2 shows the motivations and long-term plans of the Hive Federation.

Shrink Wrapped. Still in the original factory shrink wrap, with condition visible through shrink noted. For example, "SW (NM)" means shrink wrapped in near-mint condition.

Perfect. Brand new.

Near Mint. Like new with only the slightest wear, many times indistinguishable from a Mint item. Close to perfect, very collectible. Board & war games in this condition will show very little to no wear and are considered to be punched unless the condition note says unpunched.

Excellent. Lightly used, but almost like new. May show very small spine creases or slight corner wear. Absolutely no tears and no marks, a collectible condition.

Very Good. Used. May have medium-sized creases, corner dings, minor tears or scuff marks, small stains, etc. Complete and very useable.

Very well used, but complete and useable. May have flaws such as tears, pen marks or highlighting, large creases, stains, marks, etc.

• Boxed items are listed as "code/code" where the first code represents the box, and the second code describes the contents. When only one condition is listed, then the box and contents are in the same condition.

Aliens of Charted Space Vol. 1

This book contains rules for creating Travellers from the Vargr, Aslan, Zhodani and K'kree, High Guard additions and new ships, and Central Supply Catalogue entries for their new equipment.

Aliens of Charted Space Volume 1 details four spacefaring cultures, three of them alien and one curiously familiar. These are the Zhodani, humans transplanted from Earth to develop in far-off Zhdant. Their well-ordered society is very different to the squabbling mini-states of the Vargr despite sharing a common Terran ancestry. The Aslan and the K’Kree, meanwhile, are polar opposites; proud warriors and militant herd-creatures.

This book contains rules for creating Travellers from each of these alien races, High Guard additions and new ships, and Central Supply Catalogue entries for their new equipment.

The Aslan Hierate lies to spinward of the Imperium and Solomani Confederation, with a long history of warfare and border tensions. The interplay between its many warrior clans can seem incomprehensible to outsiders, but there are strict rules of courtesy and deference governing every interaction. Learn how the Hierate functions and why its young landless warriors are a threat to all nearby civilisations.

The Two Thousand Worlds of the K’Kree are almost entirely forbidden to meat-eating outsiders. On these worlds, the K’Kree have exterminated or domesticated all species of carnivore and have explicitly stated they intend to do the same to all meat-eating-races in Charted Space. This book shows the role of family and clan in K’Kree affairs, and why the K’Kree are the single greatest threat to Charted Space.

Descended from Terran wolves uplifted by the Ancients, the Vargr are widely known for their obsession with personal charisma and their preference for raiding rather than building. Vargr states tend to be short-lived, built around a cult of personality rather than a nation. This book reveals how a raider or pirate band operates, and how successful leaders transition from pirates to statesmen.

The Zhodani

Transplanted long ago by the Ancients, the Zhodani developed a society based on the ability to wield psionic powers. Considered by many to be a thought-police state, the Zhodani Consulate is stable, apparently benevolent, and its people are happy. Aliens of Charted Space Volume 1 reveals the secrets kept by the Tavrchedl’, or ‘Guardians of our Morality’, and the Zhodani Core Expeditions.

Sword Worlds details the people of the Sword Worlds Confederation as they have never been seen before. Their motivations, their strengths and their weaknesses – along with the truth behind Imperial stereotypes of reckless spacegoing chauvinists, and the darker side of their culture. This book examines how the worlds of the Confederation interact with one another, and how a technologically outmatched people have managed to stave off Imperial dominance for so long. Their armed forces are technologically simple yet incredibly resilient; their navy is very different to that of the Imperium. Minelayers, torpedo boats and orbital defence platforms defend the home worlds whilst battlecruisers raid deep into enemy territory. Sword Worlds reveals secrets and little-known facts about the Sword Worlds Confederation. Charted Space is unusual for one important reason – it has abundant sentient life .

Humaniti & The Stars [ edit ]

There are groups of humans living on far-distant worlds at the edge of Charted Space. But they did not originate there; they were transported from Terra long ago for reasons unknown by a group or species known now as the Ancients . It is unconfirmed whether human races live beyond the borders of Charted Space.

Intelligent Life & Charted Space [ edit ]

Non-sentient life has been found beyond the little bubble of well-traveled space inhabited by the various major and minor races, but as far as explorers have traveled in any direction they have not found a sentient species that did not originate in Charted Space. The reason for this island of life among a billion barren worlds is unknown. Of course, scientists concede that there may be sentient life out there, beyond the explored regions, who have not yet been contacted. There are certainly many kinds of strange and exotic lifeforms out there, whether they are intelligent or not is the real question

Charted Space, Defined [ edit ]

Most sophonts hold the following view of their universe with the Third Imperium serving as the focal point for Charted Space:

Of course, the real world never breaks down so neatly as the layers of a terran layered cake or traditional layered akumidean vilnafku . In reality, balkanized World-States often exist alongside independent Pocket Empires while intermixed with the polities of the major powers, often as the results of postwar treaties.

Charted Space is a region, hundreds of parsecs across, that comprises the parts of the galaxy that are inhabited by sophonts and charted by astrographers.
