Theme-based Communities

We are excited to welcome you and pleased to be able to share our emerging plans for your residential experience. As we launch the Impact & Prosperity Epicenter, we are offering our three initial theme-based communities. Theme-based communities are optional for applicants who have already been invited to live at the Epicenter and provide an opportunity for residents with similar interests to meet and connect with each other. Over time we will be expanding theme-based options as the residential experience at the Epicenter evolves.

Impact Capital Community The Impact Capital Community invites students to live among peers interested to learn methods that utilize capital to create lasting impact. Students engaged in this community will have an opportunity to explore topics such as venture capital investing in companies that create social or environmental value, outcomes-based financing, and other creative financial structures that create social value.

Health Development Community Students passionate about engaging in approaches for elevating health are invited to be part of the Health Development Community. Students will be able to join activities centered around exploring and solving complex health issues and their solutions. This community will draw on the vast health and medical expertise of the University of Utah and its partners worldwide.

Interfaith Community The Impact & Prosperity Epicenter welcomes students of all faiths, spiritual practices, world views, and philosophies from around the world to be part of the Epicenter Interfaith Community. Interfaith Community residents will have opportunities to meaningfully engage and learn about different faiths as a means for educational and spiritual growth and development. Having a formal religion or a belief system is not required for this community. All are welcome who would like to respectfully engage with this community.

The forum is a gathering place. It's where Epicenter residents and changemakers across campus come together to collaborate, learn, and engage in innovative programming around being a force for good in the world. Honors College

What is Honors Housing?

All students living in Honors residence spaces are members of a Living Learning Community (LLC), in which they take Honors coursework and have access to Honors social, professional, and academic programming and activities.

“Learning communities can offer more: curricular coherence; integrative, high-quality learning; collaborative knowledge-construction; and skills and knowledge relevant to living in a complex, messy, diverse world.”

Students who participate in these types of communities tend to earn higher grades, graduate on time, and feel more connected to the university.

Honors students are not required to live on-campus or in Honors housing, but they are able to apply to live in these unique communities. Housing classification is determined by year at the university rather than completed credit hours.

All housing applications and deadlines are filtered through Housing and Residential Education (HRE). The HousingU Application is available via Campus Information Services (CIS). Students can access it on their student homepage via the Student Housing tile. For questions please contact [email protected]

Click the links below to learn about HRE’s timeline, rates, and other general information.

Four-Star Lineman Alai Kalaniuvalu Schedules Visit with Utah

  • Author: Elijah Grayson-Murray

Utah continues their push to build an impenetrable offensive line as they have scheduled a June 8th official visit with sought after Bishop Gorman prospect Alai Kalaniuvalu according to 247Sports.

Kalaniuvalu is a 2025 four-star interior offensive lineman out of Bishop Gorman in Las Vegas, Nevada, and coming in at 6'4" 300-pounds, it's clear to see why he has received offers from the most prestigious programs in the nation.

He currently ranks as the 4th best IOL in Nevada, the 9th best IOL in the nation, and the 180th overall prospect in the nation.

undefined

Dec 3, 2021; Las Vegas, NV, USA; Utah Utes players hoist helmets in celebration after the 2021

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Kalaniuvalu has an extensive offer list consisting of Washington State, Washington, UNLV, Texas A&M, Tennessee, Syracuse, Stanford, San Diego State, Penn State, Oregon State, Ole Miss, Oklahoma, Ohio State, Michigan State, Miami, Idaho, Georgia, Florida, Colorado, BYU, Auburn, Arizona State, Arizona, and Alabama.

However, the teams listed above are just the teams he has yet to schedule a visit with. His summer travel schedule consists of Nebraska on April 26th, Cal on May 17th, USC on May 31st, Utah on June 7th, Michigan on June 14th, and Oregon on June 21st.

Utah are facing an uphill battle for the highly touted lineman, however, all hope isn't lost as Kalaniuvalu does have a visit in place sandwiched within his already elite visit schedule that is sure to grow as the days go by.

If Coach Whittingham can work his magic and manage to secure Kalaniuvalu's hard commitment, it would be a monumental get for the Utes 2025 class that, QB protection aside, would surely turn eyes and lead to more high level recruits following suit.

Popular hiking trail near Utah State will remain fenced off. Here’s why.

Talks have broken down between logan officials and homeowners who blocked a trail near utah state university earlier this year..

(Rick Egan | The Salt Lake Tribune) A fence blocking access to the Logan trail system near Utah State University on Tuesday, April 2, 2024. Logan City officials said negotiations with landowners who put up the fence have failed and the fence will remain in place.

A popular hiking trail near Utah State University will remain closed after Logan city officials said an agreement couldn’t be reached with nearby landowners that put up a fence and blocked the trail in recent months .

In a news release Friday, Logan City said its attorney and parks and recreation director had “multiple conversations” with the nearby homeowners in the hopes of reopening a stretch of trail near the Utah State campus, but the talks have not been successful.

“Unfortunately, we were not able to reach a resolution at this time and we are no longer in discussions,” the Logan officials said. “We ask the public to respect private property.”

The fences, which were put up earlier this year, block a trail that connects USU to the nearby Logan Island neighborhood. The blockages divert people to a sidewalk along 400 North, walk through a USU parking lot and hike down a steep path to reconnect to the trail system.

Earlier this month, Logan Mayor Holly Daines said in an email the city has discussed various solutions with the property owners — Kay and Joseph Sorenson — and would continue the talks. Friday’s news release indicates those talks have failed.

A phone call to the Sorenson was not returned on Friday.

County property records and maps can’t clearly say whether or not the Sorensons own the blocked strip of land . The blocked trail is adjacent to an old canal and the county recorder’s office found no deed exists for that strip of land.

Mark Lunt, a Logan resident and longtime advocate for its trail system, believes the Sorensons don’t own the land, but it’s difficult to say that for certain.

Lunt said Friday that he knows the ordeal has been frustrating for all involved, but he hopes all parties, “work to find a win-win solution in order to re-open the trail that has been used by the public for over 100 years.”
