RAVEN are that rare thing in music,  true originals – cut these guys with a razor and they will BLEED true heavy metal – a more intense live band does not exist on this planet!

Hailing from Newcastle Upon Tyne in North East England back in 1974 (yes – 46 YEARS ago!!!) the brothers Gallagher cut their teeth playing the pubs & clubs until solidifying their line up in 1980 with drummer Rob Hunter.

The trio went on to release three of the most influential metal albums of the NWOBHM (New Wave of British Heavy Metal) inspiring every band of that era and beyond.  Basically,  without Raven you just would not have thrash/speed metal…. after all, the band did give Metallica & Anthrax their first tours!

Following a tumultuous move to the USA, deals with Atlantic Records, indentured servitude and commercialism,  Rob left the band in 1987 to be replaced by drummer extraordinaire Joe Hasselvander, who had made his name in cult doom band Pentagram, Savoy Brown and his own solo projects, adding a new dimension to the band.

In 2001,  guitarist Mark Gallagher was involved in a near fatal accident – but fought his way back from the brink and the band proved they were stronger than ever!  This renewed spirit and attitude was reflected in the title of their 2010 album “ WALK THROUGH FIR E” and in the career overview DVD “ ROCK UNTIL YOU DROP ”.

2014 found the band opening for Metallica (the band that Raven took on their first tour back in 1983) in Sao Paulo in front of 70,000 fans, and completing their finest album to date – ExtermiNation ” which was released to universal acclaim from fans & critics alike in 2015!

After a serious heart attack in May 2017 Joe Hasselvander has had to unfortunately relinquish the drum stool….taking over drum duties is the phenomenal  Mike Heller (Fear Factory, Malignancy) who has immediately injected high energy into the band!

Following an insane blur of world touring over the last 3 years including a 40th anniversary All for One tour; the lads are set to release the next RAVEN opus, “ All Hell’s Break Loose ” on June 30th, 2023… a scorcher of immense proportions!

In a cynical musical landscape these days, where bands are not “gangs “but faceless corporations, RAVEN are a band that are REAL not FAKE – and proud of it!

VICIOUS RUMORS and Raven have shared the stage many times over the years, however, this will be the first time these old-school metal pioneers join forces on tour. See a full list of tour dates below.

As a special feature on their 45th anniversary, VICIOUS RUMORS will perform their critically acclaimed first album, Soldiers Of The Night , in its entirety for the first time in North America.

A brand new studio album is also in the works and the band will return to Europe in June where they will play at the Sweden Rock Festival with more headlining shows planned for Italy, Austria, Belgium, and Germany.

Vicious Rumors is an interesting example of an evolutionary bands with survivalist instincts. Thief career can be divided into four distinct phases. The early 80’s shred years when they put out a couple of albums on Shrapnel Records. This preliminary success saw them moving into their next phase, slowing down just a touch and getting signed with Atlantic Records for a brace of albums.  The third phase was the protracted dark era. The band thankfully did not throw in the towel during the grunge years but evolved yet again into a slower, more Pantera influenced sound with industrial tinges. They produced an admirable four albums in six years to round out the century. The final phase, now almost 20 years and five albums deep, saw the band return to a heavier, faster, more traditional sound, consisting of an excellent blend of US Power Metal with hints of thrash.

I would suggest that most fans, casual or otherwise, will remember the Atlantic Years the most. The band was at the height of their success. They had major label backing, extensive touring, videos, singles and a global reputation. The band flared up, burned bright and dropped into a slow burn for the rest of their career.

The newly released compilation called VICIOUS RUMORS:THE ATLANTIC YEARS is pretty self-explanatory. The double digipak houses the two Atlantic era studio albums, VICIOUS RUMORS (1990) and WELCOME TO THE BALL (1991) and the fairly rare 1992 Live album PLUG IN AND HANG ON. The latter was originally released in Japan only on an Atlantic subsidiary label.

The set itself is pretty basic. There are no bonus tracks. There is no rare or unreleased material. Die-hard fans would very little reason to get this, unless they are of the completist mentality and must win everything with the band’s name on it.

This set serves as a nice review of the band at the height of their powers. There is a 20-page booklet, full colour with lots of photos and an excellent retrospective essay by . This isn’t just a label cash-grab. It is endorsed and assisted by mainstay Geoff Thorpe, the only original member left.

In fairness the Atlantic albums have been reissued a few times over the years in various territories (2005, 2014, 2015) and are not impossible to find but it is nice to have them in one set.

The real value, I believe, is the inclusion of the live album. As mentioned, it was only available in Japan and the last time it was reissued was back in 2004 so it is harder to find. The live album saw them playing a big club in Japan. I always felt the live album was too short at 47 minutes. Originally, I thought for many years that perhaps the band was opening for another band on the Japanese tour, hence the standard 45-minute opening time. However, that is not the case! The liner notes reveal that the band did three dates in Japan playing almost two hours a night. This live album is drawn from the second show on Feb and disappointingly is only half the show! I understand that maybe the label or the band were not in a position to release a full Double Live album but it still irks me. Somewhere, in the vaults is the full, unedited, concert waiting to be released! This would have been the perfect chance but it is an opportunity lost.

I have a huge nostalgia for these albums and the band as a whole. This compilation set is extremely well done tempered only by the lack of anything new. I found it difficult to rate this. On the music alone it gets top grades. On the presentation it is decent but marks dropped for lack of new material, so it averages out to just another reissue. It is good to see these albums back in circulation and getting the attention they deserve even 30 years later. You can assign your own grade according to your own criteria, but I am excited to see these albums available again.

Founded in 1979, Bay Area legends Vicious Rumors established themselves with two classic releases on Shrapnel Records before signing to Atlantic where they found further international success touring with the likes of Savatage, Megadeth, Accept and Testament.

During this period the band made two videos with director Gore Verbinski, who went on to direct movies including Pirates Of the Caribbean and The Ring.

VICIOUS RUMORS Announce Spring 2023 European Tour To Celebrate Their 'Atlantic Years'

Veteran Californian metallers VICIOUS RUMORS will embark on a European tour this spring. The trek will start on April 29 and run through May 19, with plans for a Japanese leg to follow. The first two shows on the 70000 Tons Of Metal cruise were the first of the special "Atlantic Years" set, also the first with Ronny Munroe ( METAL CHURCH , TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA ) on vocals.

VICIOUS RUMORS guitarist Geoff Thorpe said: "We couldn't be happier with Ronny in the band. He understands our sound and can bring back the classic songs live in the spirit of Carl Albert with his own twist unlike any other.

"After three years of down time, we can't wait to hit the road with this killer show in the U.S., Europe and Japan."

As previously reported, VICIOUS RUMORS will embark on a U.S. tour in March. The trek, which will kick off on March 8 in Reno, Nevada and conclude on April 1 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, will mark the band's first live shows with Munroe , who joined VICIOUS RUMORS last July. The "Over The Atlantic" tour will see VICIOUS RUMORS perform classics from their Atlantic Records era.

Munroe rose to notoriety in the metal world as lead vocalist for METAL CHURCH and cemented his name even further in TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA . Along with three solo albums and a new release with BETWEEN WORLDS , Ronny is a seasoned pro who continues to amaze audiences the world over with his distinctive, melodic, and powerful voice and stage presence.

Thorpe previously said about Munroe 's addition to VICIOUS RUMORS : "I've been following Ronny for years, always intrigued with the power, tone, and professionalism he delivers. The possibility of working together has been on my mind since we met and became friends in 2007. Now that time is here!! The band and I couldn't be more excited for the future and for our next studio album on SPV / Steamhammer in 2023!"

Geoff and Ronny are already collaborating on new material while preparing for a massive VICIOUS RUMORS world tour.

Munroe first came to prominence in the metal world when he stepped into the role of frontman for the legendary band METAL CHURCH . During an audition for a project principal METAL CHURCH member Kurdt Vanderhoof was working on, Ronny was first put on Kurdt 's radar. After watching Munroe 's performance, Vanderhoof decided to resurrect METAL CHURCH with Ronny on lead vocals. He would go on to sing four albums with the band, "The Weight Of The World" (2004), "A Light In The Dark" (2006), "This Present Wasteland" (2008),and "Generation Nothing" (2013). Ronny would also wind up singing for Vanderhoof 's progressive rock project, PRESTO BALLET , further showcasing his vocal talents.

In another sign of the power of his voice, in 2011, Ronny was asked to join the mighty TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA , which further highlighted his vocal talents and showcased his voice to the popular act's audience.

After a break from music for personal reasons, Ronny joined Steve Smyth 's ( FORBIDDEN , NEVERMORE ) band ONE MACHINE in 2019 before starting work on what became the BETWEEN WORLDS project with Alessandro Del Vecchio .

VICIOUS RUMORS is an American heavy metal band founded in 1979 in the San Francisco Bay Area. The brainchild of Geoff Thorpe , the group has been active on the metal scene for most of the last four decades, touring internationally for more than 30 years.

Pacific Notes: Suns, Leonard, George, Curry

The Suns are one loss away from what could be a very uncomfortable offseason and the only way to avoid it is to become the first team ever to overcome a 3-0 deficit, writes Duane Rankin of The Arizona Republic . A loss on Sunday would be a monumentally disappointing way to end the season after acquiring Bradley Beal last summer to form a Big Three with Kevin Durant and Devin Booker .

With so much as stake, players are trying to avoid being overwhelmed by the enormity of the challenge ahead.

“I’m the type that just focuses on the next game,” Booker said. “So, play by play, possession by possession. They say no one has ever done it before. That’s exciting.”

Beyond the 3-0 margin, it’s concerning for Phoenix that none of the games have been very close. Rankin notes that the Suns are losing by an average of 17.6 points per game and are scoring just 99 PPG against a Minnesota defense that ranks at the top of the league. Coach Frank Vogel and his staff have a lot to figure out to make the series competitive.

“So far, they’ve been too much for us to handle, but the series is not over,” Vogel said. “I expect our guys to play better and I feel like we still have a lot of fight in us.”

Added Beal, “I’ve never been swept a day in my life. I be damn if that happens.”

• The Clippers still aren’t sure about the Game 4 availability of Kawhi Leonard , who continues to battle inflammation in his right knee, per Broderick Turner of The Los Angeles Times . Leonard participated in practice on Saturday, which didn’t involve any contact drills, and the team’s medical staff will closely monitor Leonard if he’s able to take the court on Sunday. “I think just doing what’s right by him,” coach Tyronn Lue said. “So, just talking to medical staff throughout the course of the game, talking to him, seeing how he’s feeling and just kind of go from there. So, he can monitor his own body, he’s grown and he can tell us how he’s feeling. Sometimes you got to protect a player from themselves. And, so, that’s what my mindset is. Kawhi and our staff is the same way.”
• Paul George may be losing some negotiating leverage with a shaky performance in the playoffs, notes Mirjam Swanson of The Orange County Register . George, who holds a $48.8MM player option for next season, is hoping to reach a long-term extension with the Clippers . He had a chance to cement his value with Leonard’s limited availability, but Swanson observes that the team has been relying on James Harden as its number one option against Dallas.
• Warriors guard Stephen Curry doesn’t expect missing the playoffs to become a habit, relays Sam Gordon of The San Francisco Chronicle . Appearing on “Inside the NBA” after winning the Clutch Player of the Year award, Curry said he’s been keeping a close eye on postseason action. “I’m taking notes, doing a little scouting, just on the feels of how much I miss that environment, that atmosphere,” he said. “I don’t want our absence to be another year next year.”

Suns and Warriors have a lot of work to do to find balance with their salary sheets looking as they do…

I can see both missing the playoffs next season…

Not an easy task for Phoenix. They dont want to move Book, can’t move Beal, and bet the deed on KD. Trying to fill out a team around those guys on those deals without draft picks? Suns might be locked into this fate for awhile

Don’t forget the stash they dropped on Allen.

Yes true they’re both in very tough spots. I think Phoenix is a little tougher situation because they have the big three with a couple more years left on their deals and very few draft picks.

Perhaps they can get the right guys to come in and compliment the big three and make a run next season. That could be tough but I think it’s doable.

As far as the Warriors, they’re coming out the other side so to speak. They’ve got two great young guys and two older guys coming off the books. And, I don’t think they traded away all their future first rounders as Phoenix did to get Durant.

Plus what I’ve seen from Mike Dunleavy so far I have confidence he can work his magic and the Warriors will probably be in better shape 2 years from tonight then the Suns will be.

Trust The Process Space The Floor A Big 3 Basketball is all about catchy catch phrases but the only recipe to success is talent, hard work and sacrifice. If you aren’t winning consistently than you’re missing at least one of these ingredients. Yes, of course good luck factors in but you gotta have the first 3 to even have a chance. This foolishness about putting together a Big 3 and the rest taking care of itself is just that…foolishness. Half the teams in the league can claim to have a Big 3. It means nothing. The Sun’s are awful. Adding Beal never stood a chance at working. I, a casual fan could see that and they’re paying that front office how much money? And they couldn’t see that? Horrible organization. And they aren’t the only one. Find a new recipe other than A Big 3 NBA…Orr at least a new catch phrase for crying out loud. You’re boring me to tears.

Yes it sure seems to be that the formula for winning is drafting well developing the talent and plugging in needs here and there.

The warriors were homegrown guys, Denver is homegrown guys, and so is boston. Then you plug in and necessary key piece or two and you’re on your way. Aaron Gordon, Andre iguodala, Jimmy Butler.

Look at Minnesota and OKC. Homegrown talent and development and plug in a guy here or there. Mike Conley, and OKC scored big time with SGA. Oh and plus Minny gambling with the big Rudy Gobert trade. Wow.

PG has the leverage because he is the best player available this offseason in FA, and the teams with money aren’t all just young tanking sides. Philly for example could really do with a wing like PG. Although I see us being to cheap and using the Nick Nurse connection to after DeMare DeRozan. OKC they have a really strong young team and he’d fit in great either way the starters in place of Josh Giddey. Orlando could also try free up some coin and chase if they want but I think they like what they have for now. Then lastly there’s the return to Indy route. Link up with Tyrese and Myles (possibly pascal) and try hope to have a good run with them before retirement now that LeBron is out west. He’d match up a lot better in the East away from Bron, Curry, Jokic, Luka, Ja, Shai, Kawhi.

I mean, what was Curry going to say? “You know… having a little extra time off at this time if year isn’t so bad!”

As Damian Lillard said.., for the first time in his life last year he was able to go to Coachella !!

Suns need someone like Trader Bob.

They can target Zion, Ingram, Mitchell and Young.

Beal has $208 million contract remaining (all guaranteed). He has to be traded.

Rockets love superstars. How about Beal for VanVleet and Jeff Green? Hope that Rockets attach a first round pick.

Suns need a point guard and a PF.

Jeff Green has 2 years $19 million contract. VanVleet is double overpaid.

2024 NFL Draft rumors: Bills receiving calls at No. 33 overall; five players teams may target in a trade up

Defense could go early when day 2 of the 2024 nfl draft begins.

After trading down from No. 28 overall to No. 32 overall, and then again from No. 32 overall to No. 33 overall, the Buffalo Bills now hold the rights to an important piece of real estate. As teams re-gather themselves following the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft and re-stack their boards, they will set course on plans for Day 2. NFL Media is reporting that the Bills have received calls from teams exploring the idea of moving up. 

Could Buffalo make their first pick of the event or will they trade down for a third time? Here are five players that could be targeted in a potential trade:

CB Cooper DeJean, Iowa

DeJean is still available because there are more questions about his ability to play cornerback than those taken before him at the position. DeJean is going to find a way onto the football field and he is going to fill his role at a high level. There comes a point in every draft when teams have to take good football players and hope that is works out. The point could be nearing with CBSSports.com's No. 25 overall prospect. 

A year ago, Pittsburgh stayed put at No. 33 overall and took a Big Ten cornerback: Penn State's Joey Porter Jr.

CB Kool-Aid McKinstry, Alabama

McKinstry sat and watched as his teammate, cornerback Terrion Arnold, was picked late in the first round, wondering when his time would come. Once viewed as a top-10 overall prospect in this draft class, McKinstry has fallen down the board after a less than stellar closing season. He is a great player and a team getting him at this stage of the draft will get a Day 1 starter at a premium position. He is CBSSports.com's No. 29 overall player .

DT Johnny Newton, Illinois

So you want to apply pressure from the shortest path to the quarterback? Newton is your guy. Texas' Byron Murphy II was the first and only defensive lineman taken in this draft but teams solely looking for pass rush help from that role may find Newton more suitable. No one would have blinked if he had been taken in the first round but now CBSSports.com's No. 26 overall prospect represents great value on Day 2.

WR Adonai Mitchell, Texas

Mitchell is a vision rather than a finished product. There is room for growth as a player, which is simultaneously terrifying and exciting for NFL teams . If he reaches his full potential, Mitchell can be an impactful X-receiver at the next level. At 6-foot-2, 205 pounds with nearly 33-inch arm length, CBSSports.com's No. 27 overall prospect ran the 40-yard dash in 4.34 seconds. It could be argued that is more impressive than what his teammate, the NFL Combine's fastest man Xavier Worthy, was able to accomplish.

As the driver of the Suamataia bandwagon, I had to pull over to type this section. When the dust settled, there were nine offensive linemen taken on the first night of the NFL Draft. Yet teams like the Patriots and Commanders still have a desperate need to find contributors at tackle. Supply may be dwindling, but demand certainly is not. Anyone familiar with the law of economics knows that creates a sellers market and, as noted in the intro, Buffalo is holding a valuable piece of real estate.
