Traveling Around Azeroth: A Transportation Guide

Travel basics.

  • Flight paths are what most players will use to travel between nearby zones. You must discover a flight path before using it for the first time--these are marked in green on your minimap.
  • We've got a page covering Riding : skill levels, mount types, speeds, and training costs. You can start off riding ground mounts at level 10, increasing your travel speed and learning how to fly at later levels.
  • Mages can port players to capital cities, as well as teleporting themselves.
  • A warlock's Ritual of Summoning is useful for straggler players left behind--and especially getting a low-level player to an otherwise inaccessible zone.
  • Summoning stones are also found outside major instances and raids. This summons individual players to the stone's location.
  • With Recruit a Friend , you can summon linked characters to each other's locations anywhere in the world. Recruit a Friend is great for quickly leveling characters, as there are triple experience and increased reputation gains, as well as bonus levels that can be granted to characters.
  • Many capital cities have portals to other capital cities--Dalaran and Vale of Eternal Blossoms have portals to major faction capitals in Azeroth, while Stormwind and Orgrimmar have portals (no questing to unlock required) for all Cataclysm zones.
  • There are many varied items that can port you to special locations, like guild capes and teleport tabards. The "Getting To:" sections of this guide include a map with mouseover travel details, as well as tabs describing every item and method of transportation, ranging from simple town portals to elaborate portals that can only be accessed after completing quest chains.

Hearthstones

  • All players can get a new hearthstone and change the location by talking to any innkeeper.
  • Hearthstones are on a 30-minute cooldown, and although there are many variations of Hearthstones, all of the ones that bring you to your desired inn share this cooldown.
  • There are some fancy versions of hearthstones: The Innkeeper's Daughter is a Dwarven Archaeology solve that tells a tale about the darker side of Dwarven culture.
  • Ethereal Portal is a rare item from the Trading Card Game--when you hearth, a neon portal in the style of the Consortium Ethereals pops up.
  • Eternal Traveler's Hearthstone from pre-ordering the Shadowlands World of Warcraft expansion makes your character slowly vaporize from head to toe.
  • Holographic Digitalization Hearthstone from Mechagon turns you into a holograph and makes you salute.
  • Dark Portal is another rare item from the Trading Card Game--it creates a mini-version of the Dark Portal.
  • Ruby Slippers , a drop from the Opera event in Karazhan, are a clear reference to Dorothy's sparkling red shoes in the Wizard of Oz. They're boots with a hearthstone built in!
  • The Last Relic of Argus is the anti-hearthstone; on a 12 hour cooldown, it will port you to an obscure place--and generally in an odd position, like on a tree branch. However, if you're bored, let the Last Relic port you to an area and see what's around to do. Doesn't share a cooldown with Hearthstones, and has the added bonus of being a 5 second cast affected by haste.
  • Scroll of Recall , Scroll of Recall II , and Scroll of Recall III are also unpredictable. They port you to your Hearthstone's location, but don't share a cooldown--which is great. However, as you level up, the results become more unpredictable, so it's a bit of a gamble to use them.
  • Certain World Events provide Hearthstones with unique spell effects when cast : Headless Horseman's Hearthstone from Hallow's End creates a ring of flames around you, while wearing a Hallowed Helm !
  • Greatfather Winter's Hearthstone from Feast of Winter Veil has you feeling the season's spirit with snow and a Red Winter Hat !
  • Lunar Elder's Hearthstone from Lunar Festival has you revering your elders, complete with fireworks!
  • Peddlefeet's Lovely Hearthstone from Love is in the Air has you turned into a cupid, complete with wings, a heart bow and arrow, and heart-shaped fireworks!
  • Fire Eater's Hearthstone from Midsummer's Festival puts a Midsummer tabard on your character and has you hold a torch, summon fire on your hands and around your feet, and shoots fireworks above your character's head!
  • Brewfest Reveler's Hearthstone from Brewfest will place mugs in your hands while having you dance and spill beer all over the floor and yourself.
  • Noble Gardener's Hearthstone from Noble Garden summons bunnies around your characters feet and spawns an egg and a basket in your hand, as well as adds bunny ears to your character's head.

  • Maps! It's a travel guide, yet it's completely text-based! Ever tried to navigate using only text directions from a site like Google? It can be maddening! I know this will increase the length of the guide, but the Table of Contents should be sufficient to get to the relevant areas.
  • Stormpike Insignia Rank 6 and Frostwolf Insignia Rank 6 both have multiple lower ranks that allow players to teleport, as well. This information is not as useful without knowing how to acquire the items; an additional sentence would add some clarity, "You get your first Insignia, Stormpike Insignia Rank 1 or Frostwolf Insignia Rank 1 , from completing Proving Grounds or Proving Grounds , respectively."
  • A section on Mage portals and teleports would be useful. Non-mages do not always know which cities are available. Hmm; I wonder what will happen to Theramore in MoP?
  • The Recruit-A-Friend program offers an instant teleport for each of the participants. It's actually pretty sweet during the period that it is offered.
  • It'd be nice to see recommended Hearthstone locations. I still use Dalaran due to a lot of the vendor and trainer conveniences, the portal to Caverns of Time, and home city portals. Still the most convenient city, in my opinion.
  • The picture of the mole machine is cool, but might be confusing to certain players since you have a picture of it in the Tram. I'd consider an alternative picture, even if it's as basic as your avatar speaking with a flightmaster.
  • Speaking of which, no map of all the faction-specific flight paths? I found it tremendously helpful to use these maps out of game when I was trying to figure out what I wanted to do that night, and how to get there most efficiently. Level 85 players with epic flying do not need a travel guide as much as noobs do, after all, and noobs use flight masters!

Travel Itinerary For One Week in Moscow: The Best of Moscow!

I just got back from one week in Moscow. And, as you might have already guessed, it was a mind-boggling experience. It was not my first trip to the Russian capital. But I hardly ever got enough time to explore this sprawling city. Visiting places for business rarely leaves enough time for sightseeing. I think that if you’ve got one week in Russia, you can also consider splitting your time between its largest cities (i.e. Saint Petersburg ) to get the most out of your trip. Seven days will let you see the majority of the main sights and go beyond just scratching the surface. In this post, I’m going to share with you my idea of the perfect travel itinerary for one week in Moscow.

Moscow is perhaps both the business and cultural hub of Russia. There is a lot more to see here than just the Kremlin and Saint Basil’s Cathedral. Centuries-old churches with onion-shaped domes dotted around the city are in stark contrast with newly completed impressive skyscrapers of Moscow City dominating the skyline. I spent a lot of time thinking about my Moscow itinerary before I left. And this city lived up to all of my expectations.

7-day Moscow itinerary

Travel Itinerary For One Week in Moscow

Day 1 – red square and the kremlin.

Metro Station: Okhotny Ryad on Red Line.

No trip to Moscow would be complete without seeing its main attraction. The Red Square is just a stone’s throw away from several metro stations. It is home to some of the most impressive architectural masterpieces in the city. The first thing you’ll probably notice after entering it and passing vendors selling weird fur hats is the fairytale-like looking Saint Basil’s Cathedral. It was built to commemorate one of the major victories of Ivan the Terrible. I once spent 20 minutes gazing at it, trying to find the perfect angle to snap it. It was easier said than done because of the hordes of locals and tourists.

As you continue strolling around Red Square, there’s no way you can miss Gum. It was widely known as the main department store during the Soviet Era. Now this large (yet historic) shopping mall is filled with expensive boutiques, pricey eateries, etc. During my trip to Moscow, I was on a tight budget. So I only took a retro-style stroll in Gum to get a rare glimpse of a place where Soviet leaders used to grocery shop and buy their stuff. In case you want some modern shopping experience, head to the Okhotny Ryad Shopping Center with stores like New Yorker, Zara, and Adidas.

Read Next: Things To Do on Socotra

To continue this Moscow itinerary, next you may want to go inside the Kremlin walls. This is the center of Russian political power and the president’s official residence. If you’re planning to pay Kremlin a visit do your best to visit Ivan the Great Bell Tower as well. Go there as early as possible to avoid crowds and get an incredible bird’s-eye view. There are a couple of museums that are available during designated visiting hours. Make sure to book your ticket online and avoid lines.

Day 2 – Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, the Tretyakov Gallery, and the Arbat Street

Metro Station: Kropotkinskaya on Red Line

As soon as you start creating a Moscow itinerary for your second day, you’ll discover that there are plenty of metro stations that are much closer to certain sites. Depending on your route, take a closer look at the metro map to pick the closest.

The white marble walls of Christ the Saviour Cathedral are awe-inspiring. As you approach this tallest Orthodox Christian church, you may notice the bronze sculptures, magnificent arches, and cupolas that were created to commemorate Russia’s victory against Napoleon.

travel itinerary for one week in Moscow

How to Get a Decent Haircut in a Foreign Country

Unfortunately, the current Cathedral is a replica, since original was blown to bits in 1931 by the Soviet government. The new cathedral basically follows the original design, but they have added some new elements such as marble high reliefs.

Home to some precious collection of artworks, in Tretyakov Gallery you can find more than 150,000 of works spanning centuries of artistic endeavor. Originally a privately owned gallery, it now has become one of the largest museums in Russia. The Gallery is often considered essential to visit. But I have encountered a lot of locals who have never been there.

Famous for its souvenirs, musicians, and theaters, Arbat street is among the few in Moscow that were turned into pedestrian zones. Arbat street is usually very busy with tourists and locals alike. My local friend once called it the oldest street in Moscow dating back to 1493. It is a kilometer long walking street filled with fancy gift shops, small cozy restaurants, lots of cute cafes, and street artists. It is closed to any vehicular traffic, so you can easily stroll it with kids.

Day 3 – Moscow River Boat Ride, Poklonnaya Hill Victory Park, the Moscow City

Metro Station: Kievskaya and Park Pobedy on Dark Blue Line / Vystavochnaya on Light Blue Line

Voyaging along the Moscow River is definitely one of the best ways to catch a glimpse of the city and see the attractions from a bit different perspective. Depending on your Moscow itinerary, travel budget and the time of the year, there are various types of boats available. In the summer there is no shortage of boats, and you’ll be spoiled for choice.

exploring Moscow

Travel Itinerary for One Week in Beijing

If you find yourself in Moscow during the winter months, I’d recommend going with Radisson boat cruise. These are often more expensive (yet comfy). They offer refreshments like tea, coffee, hot chocolate, and, of course, alcoholic drinks. Prices may vary but mostly depend on your food and drink selection. Find their main pier near the opulent Ukraine hotel . The hotel is one of the “Seven Sisters”, so if you’re into the charm of Stalinist architecture don’t miss a chance to stay there.

The area near Poklonnaya Hill has the closest relation to the country’s recent past. The memorial complex was completed in the mid-1990s to commemorate the Victory and WW2 casualties. Also known as the Great Patriotic War Museum, activities here include indoor attractions while the grounds around host an open-air museum with old tanks and other vehicles used on the battlefield.

How I Planned My Trip to Vietnam

The hallmark of the memorial complex and the first thing you see as you exit metro is the statue of Nike mounted to its column. This is a very impressive Obelisk with a statue of Saint George slaying the dragon at its base.

Maybe not as impressive as Shanghai’s Oriental Pearl Tower , the skyscrapers of the Moscow City (otherwise known as Moscow International Business Center) are so drastically different from dull Soviet architecture. With 239 meters and 60 floors, the Empire Tower is the seventh highest building in the business district.

The observation deck occupies 56 floor from where you have some panoramic views of the city. I loved the view in the direction of Moscow State University and Luzhniki stadium as well to the other side with residential quarters. The entrance fee is pricey, but if you’re want to get a bird’s eye view, the skyscraper is one of the best places for doing just that.

Day 4 – VDNKh, Worker and Collective Farm Woman Monument, The Ostankino TV Tower

Metro Station: VDNKh on Orange Line

VDNKh is one of my favorite attractions in Moscow. The weird abbreviation actually stands for Russian vystavka dostizheniy narodnogo khozyaystva (Exhibition of Achievements of the National Economy). With more than 200 buildings and 30 pavilions on the grounds, VDNKh serves as an open-air museum. You can easily spend a full day here since the park occupies a very large area.

Moscow sights

Places to Visit in Barcelona That Aren’t Beaches

First, there are pavilions that used to showcase different cultures the USSR was made of. Additionally, there is a number of shopping pavilions, as well as Moskvarium (an Oceanarium) that features a variety of marine species. VDNKh is a popular venue for events and fairs. There is always something going on, so I’d recommend checking their website if you want to see some particular exhibition.

A stone’s throw away from VDNKh there is a very distinctive 25-meters high monument. Originally built in 1937 for the world fair in Paris, the hulking figures of men and women holding a hammer and a sickle represent the Soviet idea of united workers and farmers. It doesn’t take much time to see the monument, but visiting it gives some idea of the Soviet Union’s grandiose aspirations.

I have a thing for tall buildings. So to continue my travel itinerary for one week in Moscow I decided to climb the fourth highest TV tower in the world. This iconic 540m tower is a fixture of the skyline. You can see it virtually from everywhere in Moscow, and this is where you can get the best panoramic views (yep, even better than Empire skyscraper).

top things to do in Moscow

Parts of the floor are made of tempered glass, so it can be quite scary to exit the elevator. But trust me, as you start observing buildings and cars below, you won’t want to leave. There is only a limited number of tickets per day, so you may want to book online. Insider tip: the first tour is cheaper, you can save up to $10 if go there early.

Day 5 – A Tour To Moscow Manor Houses

Metro Station: Kolomenskoye, Tsaritsyno on Dark Green Line / Kuskovo on Purple Line

I love visiting the manor houses and palaces in Moscow. These opulent buildings were generally built to house Russian aristocratic families and monarchs. Houses tend to be rather grand affairs with impressive architecture. And, depending on the whims of the owners, some form of a landscaped garden.

During the early part of the 20th century though, many of Russia’s aristocratic families (including the family of the last emperor) ended up being killed or moving abroad . Their manor houses were nationalized. Some time later (after the fall of the USSR) these were open to the public. It means that today a great many of Moscow’s finest manor houses and palaces are open for touring.

one week Moscow itinerary

20 Travel Tips I’ve Learned From Travelling The World

There are 20 manor houses scattered throughout the city and more than 25 in the area around. But not all of them easily accessible and exploring them often takes a lot of time. I’d recommend focusing on three most popular estates in Moscow that are some 30-minute metro ride away from Kremlin.

Sandwiched between the Moscow River and the Andropov Avenue, Kolomenskoye is a UNESCO site that became a public park in the 1920’s. Once a former royal estate, now it is one of the most tranquil parks in the city with gorgeous views. The Ascension Church, The White Column, and the grounds are a truly grand place to visit.

You could easily spend a full day here, exploring a traditional Russian village (that is, in fact, a market), picnicking by the river, enjoying the Eastern Orthodox church architecture, hiking the grounds as well as and wandering the park and gardens with wildflower meadows, apple orchards, and birch and maple groves. The estate museum showcases Russian nature at its finest year-round.

12 Stunning National Parks and Regional Parks In France

If my travel itinerary for one week in Moscow was a family tree, Tsaritsyno Park would probably be the crazy uncle that no-one talks about. It’s a large park in the south of the city of mind-boggling proportions, unbelievable in so many ways, and yet most travelers have never heard of it.

The palace was supposed to be a summer home for Empress Catherine the Great. But since the construction didn’t meet with her approval the palace was abandoned. Since the early 1990’s the palace, the pond, and the grounds have been undergoing renovations. The entire complex is now looking brighter and more elaborately decorated than at possibly any other time during its history. Like most parks in Moscow, you can visit Tsaritsyno free of charge, but there is a small fee if you want to visit the palace.

Moscow itinerary

How To Stop Procrastinating When Trip Planning

Last, but by no means least on my Moscow itinerary is Kuskovo Park . This is definitely an off-the-beaten-path place. While it is not easily accessible, you will be rewarded with a lack of crowds. This 18th-century summer country house of the Sheremetev family was one of the first summer country estates of the Russian nobility. And when you visit you’ll quickly realize why locals love this park.

Like many other estates, Kuskovo has just been renovated. So there are lovely French formal garden, a grotto, and the Dutch house to explore. Make sure to plan your itinerary well because the estate is some way from a metro station.

Day 6 – Explore the Golden Ring

Creating the Moscow itinerary may keep you busy for days with the seemingly endless amount of things to do. Visiting the so-called Golden Ring is like stepping back in time. Golden Ring is a “theme route” devised by promotion-minded journalist and writer Yuri Bychkov.

Having started in Moscow the route will take you through a number of historical cities. It now includes Suzdal, Vladimir, Kostroma, Yaroslavl and Sergiev Posad. All these awe-inspiring towns have their own smaller kremlins and feature dramatic churches with onion-shaped domes, tranquil residential areas, and other architectural landmarks.

Two Weeks In Thailand: The Perfect 14-Day Itinerary

I only visited two out of eight cities included on the route. It is a no-brainer that Sergiev Posad is the nearest and the easiest city to see on a day trip from Moscow. That being said, you can explore its main attractions in just one day. Located some 70 km north-east of the Russian capital, this tiny and overlooked town is home to Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius, UNESCO Site.

things to do in Moscow in seven days

You Will Also Like: 3-Day London Itinerary

Sergiev Posad is often described as being at the heart of Russian spiritual life. So it is uncommon to see the crowds of Russian pilgrims showing a deep reverence for their religion. If you’re traveling independently and using public transport, you can reach Sergiev Posad by bus (departs from VDNKh) or by suburban commuter train from Yaroslavskaya Railway Station (Bahnhof). It takes about one and a half hours to reach the town.

Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius is a great place to get a glimpse of filling and warming Russian lunch, specifically at the “ Gostevaya Izba ” restaurant. Try the duck breast, hearty potato and vegetables, and the awesome Napoleon cake.

Day 7 – Gorky Park, Izmailovo Kremlin, Patriarch’s Ponds

Metro Station: Park Kultury or Oktyabrskaya on Circle Line / Partizanskaya on Dark Blue Line / Pushkinskaya on Dark Green Line

Gorky Park is in the heart of Moscow. It offers many different types of outdoor activities, such as dancing, cycling, skateboarding, walking, jogging, and anything else you can do in a park. Named after Maxim Gorky, this sprawling and lovely park is where locals go on a picnic, relax and enjoy free yoga classes. It’s a popular place to bike around, and there is a Muzeon Art Park not far from here. A dynamic location with a younger vibe. There is also a pier, so you can take a cruise along the river too.

Random Russian guy

How to Save Money While Traveling in Europe

The Kremlin in Izmailovo is by no means like the one you can find near the Red Square. Originally built for decorative purposes, it now features the Vernissage flea market and a number of frequent fairs, exhibitions, and conferences. Every weekend, there’s a giant flea market in Izmailovo, where dozens of stalls sell Soviet propaganda crap, Russian nesting dolls, vinyl records, jewelry and just about any object you can imagine. Go early in the morning if you want to beat the crowds.

All the Bulgakov’s fans should pay a visit to Patriarch’s Ponds (yup, that is plural). With a lovely small city park and the only one (!) pond in the middle, the location is where the opening scene of Bulgakov’s novel Master and Margarita was set. The novel is centered around a visit by Devil to the atheistic Soviet Union is considered by many critics to be one of the best novels of the 20th century. I spent great two hours strolling the nearby streets and having lunch in the hipster cafe.

Conclusion and Recommendations

To conclude, Moscow is a safe city to visit. I have never had a problem with getting around and most locals are really friendly once they know you’re a foreigner. Moscow has undergone some serious reconstruction over the last few years. So you can expect some places to be completely different. I hope my one week Moscow itinerary was helpful! If you have less time, say 4 days or 5 days, I would cut out day 6 and day 7. You could save the Golden Ring for a separate trip entirely as there’s lots to see!

Staying at the Nicest Hotel in El Paso

  • Staying at the Nicest Hotel…

Staying at the Nicest Hotel in El Paso

The westernmost settlement in Texas, El Paso, was long considered a sleepy western backwater. It’s not surprising, considering that it simply kept its head low and moseyed along as its (in)famous Mexican neighbor Ciudad Juárez made all the headlines. But all that’s in the past; El Paso is now making headlines and for all the right reasons. With downtown El Paso having recently gotten a facelift, the city is now known for its very own crop of microbreweries, an amazing streetcar line, and some excellent, upscale, and spanking new highrise stays. The nicest hotel in El Paso might be the Stanton House, hands down, but there are also a bunch of other fantastic stays around the town.

Not only do they range across a variety of budgets, but they also have a wide variety of vibes and thus suit all kinds of travelers. To that end, here’s a detailed guide to some of El Paso’s best stays and accommodations.

Table of contents

Stanton house, hilton garden inn el paso/university, courtyard by marriott el paso downtown/convention center, the hummingbird sunset home, casa del sol, aloft downtown, chase suite el paso, home with mountain view/pool/tub, hotel indigo downtown, hotel paso del norte, autograph collection, the plaza hotel pioneer park, our verdict, where to stay in el paso, recommended restaurants / bars in el paso, recommended activities in el paso.

The boutique Stanton House  is hands-down the most luxurious and grand-looking accommodation in El Paso. With its avant-garde furnishings and provocative collection of eclectic and modern artwork, the hotel could easily be mistaken for a museum. But the 42-room upscale hotel is the best modern, art-focused staying experience we’ve ever had. It’s tucked in the century-year-old former Rogers Furniture store building in El Paso’s downtown. It’s supposedly fashioned after upscale hotels in Mexico City, with art being the overarching theme.

The theme of artwork here is to test people’s preconceptions, and that theme continued in the rooms and suites. Many of them boasted excellent views of the historic and bustling San Jacinto Plaza, but it’s the interiors that blew us away. Firstly, the mid-century furniture harks back to the era of the former showroom the hotel sits in. The Stearns & Foster Beds were absolutely luxurious, as were the alpaca throws, the Sferra luxury linens, and the Mascioni towels. The Garden Tubs were large enough for a romantic tete-a-tete, especially since they were accompanied by Malin + Goetz bath products and waterfall showers. But what truly impressed us were the on-call butler services and the minibar stocked with local libations.

That said, the amenities here were absolutely top-notch, with the standout being the iconic Taft-Díaz  restaurant. The menu epitomizes and immortalizes the 1909 summit between Mexican President Porfirio Díaz and U.S. President William Howard Taft, featuring a fantastic combination of Mexican and American fare. It even has a fantastic speakeasy bar with happy hours between 4 and 6 pm from Mondays to Thursdays. The next thing on our agenda was unwinding to the hilt at the  Blush Boutique & Spa , which had not only Vichy showers and a float room but even sensory deprivation float tanks!

Stanton House El Paso - by Booking

While Stanton House is undoubtedly the nicest place to stay, the hotels and stays below are not so bad themselves!

The University of Texas’s El Paso campus is one of the city’s most recognizable landmarks. That’s what makes the Hilton Garden Inn El Paso University so popular, but the accommodation is more than just its location – or the Hilton brand. For one, even entry-level rooms here include comforts such as ergonomic desk chairs and Keurig coffeemakers, which are a blessing for making your first cup of joe in the morning. The suites go a step beyond, with two TVs and plush queen beds each. Nevertheless, all rooms have fridges, coffeemakers, microwaves, cable TVs, free Wi-Fi, and luxe bathrooms.

The amenities at this Hilton hotel are no less amazing, starting with the fact that they have a free shuttle operating to the airport every day. It has a lovely outdoor pool and a hot tub on the pool deck, which is where we’d unwind after a long day of sightseeing. Plus, there’s also an onsite fitness center, a restaurant, and a pavilion lounge. While the former served delicious Southwest and American cuisine, the latter had excellent drinks.

Best value for money. Sightseeing was a breeze while staying at Courtyard by Marriott El Paso Downtown/Convention Center . Right from the zoo to the art museum, the very best of the city’s sights and attractions were at our fingertips. In fact, we could even head out to the Rio Grande Valley and explore the famed vineyards around the city.

Back at the hotel, there was a lot awaiting us. The standout feature was the amazing outdoor rooftop swimming pool, which boasted phenomenal views of the city and the mountains beyond. It was surrounded by daybeds, so we could lounge with a drink in our hands after a swim and soak in the views. Aside from a fitness center, the hotel also had a shared lounge and a bar where we could unwind after a long day. Free private parking and free bikes round up the common amenities here. Plus, there was even a restaurant onsite, which served not only delicious breakfasts but also dinners.

The spacious rooms and suites were very chill, with neutral furnishings and cool hues that revitalized us for the next day.

We were looking for spacious and modern accommodations for our party of four adults and two children, and the Hummingbird Sunset Home was the best abode. This fully remodeled three-bedroom home boasted two bedrooms with queen beds and one bedroom with a bunk bed for the kids. So, all of us had enough space and were comfortable during our three-day stint in El Paso. The open-plan living room with the cushy sofas and the dining table was great for all of us to hang out. Thanks to the Roku TV and the fully-equipped kitchen, we were entertained whenever we were at home.

Plus, we could cook everything from simple to lavish meals whenever we wanted. Additionally, there was also a separate room to hang out, with a lovely patio with alfresco seating right outside. Wrapping things up is the additional large patio with a grill, chairs, and a table where we could soak in the El Paso sunsets and enjoy nice family dinners.

Casa Del Sol is a gorgeous three-bedroom vacation rental in the upscale Westside neighborhood of El Paso. It boasts the best of modern-day comforts and old-world elegance, and we made some really special vacation memories here. We loved every corner of this Instagrammable casa, which radiated a romantic and glamorous vibe with its period chandeliers and arched ceilings. Plus, the mountain views from practically every room, including the outdoors, were amazing, to say the least.

As we entered the home, the living room, with the gas fireplace, HDTV, and cushy sofas, immediately caught our attention. The large, well-equipped kitchen was all the more amazing, and we could whip up meals on the fly, especially when we didn’t feel like stepping out for food. Even the three bedrooms were true retreats, right from the plush beds to the luxe bathrooms, especially since the Master Suite even had a jacuzzi tub!

That said, the real gem here was the glorious patio, complete with comfy Acapulco chairs and a smokeless firepit. Not only was it perfect for alfresco meals and get-togethers, but it also boasted gorgeous views of the Franklin Mountains.

If you’re bringing Fido along, Aloft Downtown is one of El Paso, TX’s best pet-friendly hotels . It also happens to be one of El Paso, TX’s cheapest hotels , but we didn’t feel like it was skimping anywhere at all. Get this – Aloft sits in the Art Deco extravagance that’s the OT Bassett Tower, a century-old El Paso landmark. In fact, this 1929-designed skyscraper is a former office block but is a seriously stylish boutique stay now, and we especially loved the views of El Paso from here.

The rooms were fun and zany, with geometric prints, angular furniture, plush beds, and small-ish but absolutely contemporary bathrooms. Plus, they came with smart TVs and plug-in stations. Aside from a small but swanky fitness center, the hotel is also home to the fantastic WXYZ bar-restaurant in the lobby area. Plus, there’s a free pool table right outside it, perfect for mingling with the other guests.

Do you want to stay in one of the best stays in El Paso near the airport to catch your flight back home? Check out the Chase Suite El Paso , which is highly rated for being safe and upscale yet intimate, and didn’t feel like an airport stay to us at all. The charming and quaint property exudes warm and inviting boutique-hotel-like vibes.

What’s more, it had a whole lot of amenities, starting with what was one of the most gorgeous outdoor pools we’d ever seen. We’d swim in the L-shaped pool before lounging and sprawling on the daybeds later on. During the evenings, we’d move to the barbeque pit with alfresco seating right next to the pool and spend the evening enjoying a grilled dinner under the stars. Aside from the fitness center, the hotel even had complimentary social dinners on Mondays and Thursdays, where we mingled with fellow guests and enjoyed beer and wine along with a hot dinner. Of course, our days began with continental breakfast spreads, with the vending machine being perfect for stocking snacks.

All rooms and suites here were spacious, with cable TVs, seating areas, and modern bathrooms. The best bit was that the suites even had kitchens for cooking light meals.

Best for large groups. We were a large group of friends looking for a spacious but luxurious vacation rental in central El Paso, and this Home with Mountain View/Pool/Tub was perfect. This four-bedroom home could sleep up to 10 people and even had two full bathrooms, so we didn’t have to scramble to get ready in the mornings. Besides a dedicated office space that could turn into an extra sleeping space, the place even had a full kitchen where we could whip up lavish meals when we didn’t want to step out. While there was a living room with a fireplace and a connected dining space where we could enjoy the meals, it was the backyard that was the actual highlight here.

The area was simply inviting and designed for leisure, with the freeform pool taking centerstage. When we weren’t outside the house, we’d be in the backyard, swimming in and lounging by the pool. The majestic mountain views aside, the backyard even had an outdoor grill and sitting area for alfresco meals. But that’s not all; there was even a soothing jetted tub in the backyard! Evenings were reserved for opening a bottle of bubbly and recharging in the bubbling waters. Did you know that for an additional charge, we could even have the pool and hot tub heated? Yes!

Best boutique hotel. The vibrant past and the contemporary present come together in style at the hip Hotel Indigo Downtown , which sits in the heart of Downtown. Formerly the Downtowner Motor Inn, the hotel blends mid-20th-century architecture and modern design. That is evident from the eclectic photography and art collection adorning the walls and the unusual but hip fifth-floor lobby.

It’s also where the hotel’s outdoor pool and bar sit, and it is one of the best places in the city to cool off and unwind. After a day of sightseeing, we’d take a break from the desert heat with a swim in the pool and a lounge with views of the desert sunsets. Later, we enjoyed fabulous cocktails at the Circa 1963 bar, where we mingled with locals and enjoyed views of the Franklin Mountains. We also loved digging into traditional and international cuisine at the first-floor restaurant, the Downtowner.

The spacious rooms and suites here offer superb views of Downtown. They have free Wi-Fi and even room and turndown services. Plush beds, modern bathrooms, and a whole bunch of mod-cons complete the space.

VIP vibes are in full flow at Hotel Paso Del Norte, Autograph Collection , where we were always looking skyward. Why, you ask? That’s because the marble-laden lobby of this chic hotel has a jaw-dropping 25-foot Tiffany-style stained-glass dome that’s been wowing guests like us for more than a century! That said, there was a lot to admire on ground level, too, whether it was the sweeping staircase, the classical Doric columns, or the grand piano. So, it’s not hard to see why its guest roster includes everyone from film stars and presidents to rock bands whose names can be seen on the Wall of Fame.

The amenities at this hotel are amazingly top-of-the-line. We enjoyed cocktails at the Dome Bar under the spectacular aforementioned roof, which is one of the best cocktail experiences in the city. Rounding up the dining experiences are the 1700° Steakhouse and Sabor. Besides this, the hotel even has a fitness center and a wonderful rooftop pool. What could be better?

The luxurious living doesn’t stop at the amenities. The hotel is actually one of the country’s first hotels with a state-of-the-art air purification system, which offers excellent comfort in the aftermath of a global pandemic. The spacious rooms boasted picture windows with views of Downtown, Ciudad Juarez, and the Franklin Mountains State Park. Plush beds, flatscreen TVs with Netflix, luxe bathrooms, Keurig pods, and complimentary waters wrap up the offerings.

Most historic. Everything iconic in this city begins with The Plaza Hotel Pioneer Park , a landmark institution that has a rich history that dates back to the 1930s. The decadent property originally was the 1900-built Sheldon Hotel, which burnt down in 1929, following which Conrad Hilton bought the land. This is where it built the very first hotel in Conrad Hilton’s empire, which opened in 1930 and survived the Great Depression before it was sold in 1968 and renamed the Plaza. However, that wasn’t the end of it; it remained empty for years before undergoing an ambitious revamp, which transformed it into the place it is today.

Our stay at this decadent property was very memorable, which has garnered a ton of awards for its opulent furnishings and art deco-esque design. We felt like a star from the moment we stepped inside, considering the penthouse here is where 17-year-old Elizabeth Taylor stayed before her wedding to Conrad “Nicki” Hilton Jr. Today, it’s the extremely popular rooftop bar La Perla, which epitomizes 20th-century glamour. We also loved digging into Mexican cuisine at the flagship restaurant, Ámbar. When it comes to stays, we had the choice of 130 rooms and suites, all of which have mod-cons and were very comfortable to stay in.

While we love all of El Paso’s stays, the ones below are our favorites for their specific features:

  • Best overall: Stanton House
  • Most historic: The Plaza Hotel Pioneer Park
  • Best for large groups: Home with Mountain View/Pool/Tub
  • Best value for money: Courtyard by Marriott El Paso Downtown/Convention Center
  • Best boutique hotel: Hotel Indigo Downtown

The proximity between its Mexican sister city, Ciudad Juárez, and El Paso has resulted in the latter having a blend of cultures and cuisines. So, which neighborhood should one stay in El Paso that’s not only great but also safe? Of course, the best neighborhood would be Downtown El Paso, which is home to a plethora of dining options, attractions, and sights. Foodies will love Canutillo in the north as it has many roadside cafeterias and cantinas that offer authentic Mexican flavors.

Next, there’s Anthony, which is home to everything from waterparks to coffeehouses, making it great for the whole family. Since it sits farther north, just across the river, it’s also close to a whole crop of New Mexican wineries, making it the choice of neighborhood for oenophiles. Finally, shopaholics will like the Outlet Shoppes at Rio Grande and El Paso.

  • Kiki’s Mexican Restaurant : Kiki’s huge reputation is well-deserved – it’s one of those rare places. This formerly well-kept secret among locals is now a huge crowd-pleaser, with it being packed for lunch and dinner. Don’t miss the house specialty ‘is the ‘Machaca,’ which is a braised beef dish layered with cheese, onions, and green chili sauce, all topped with a runny egg.
  • The Hoppy Monk : This family-run casual gastropub serves Tex-Mex and modern American fare, along with a wide selection of wine, beer, and cocktails at affordable prices. Dig into the Ribeye sandwich and salsa macha brussels sprouts, and if you arrive during Happy Hour, finish it off with a USD-5 margarita.
  • L & J Café : This El Paso institution dates back to 1927 and is steeped in generations of family tradition. It is generally touted as the city’s best restaurant. Don’t miss incredible signature items like chile rellenos, ground beef tacos, tostadas, red enchiladas, and the chile de arbol salsa, which is so good that it’s bottled and sold at the restaurant!
  • El Paso & Juarez Downtown Historic Walking Tour : There was no better or safer way to explore Ciudad Juarez and El Paso and its culture than on this four-hour walking tour. We met a friendly and knowledgeable guide on the border of the US and Mexico, who took us to the most interesting hotspots, including cantinas, cabarets, and restaurants.
