Zipline Information & FAQ's

What is the difference between ziptrek ecotours and superfly ziplines.

Ziptrek is the original zipline tour company in Whistler. Ziptrek tours take place over the Fitzsimmons Valley between Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains. This tour starts and ends right in the heart of Whistler Village. Guides provide information on the local ecosystem and Ziptrek uses “free range harnesses” so you can lean back and go upside down safely and in comfort.

Superfly Ziplines are located about a 10-minute drive north of Whistler Village in the Cougar Mountain area. Superfly Ziplines use a sit in harness and they have a unique system that allows two guests to ride side-by-side, each on their own cable.

What should I wear?

During the summer months (May to October), wear comfortable, supportive athletic or hiking shoes. Open-toed shoes, sandals and dress shoes are not permitted. Wear comfortable clothing appropriate for the weather.

During the winter, we recommend wearing layers of outdoor clothing. Generally we suggest wearing the same thing you would wear skiing or snowboarding.

Can I bring a backpack?

You will not be able to bring a backpack or any other baggage on tour with you. You will be wearing a full-body harness and backpacks will interfere with this harness. In addition, we do not want anyone to lose or drop anything while ziplining! Please leave all personal belongings at your hotel, small item storage is available for Ziptrek Ecotours guests. Free lockers are available for Superfly guests.

Can I bring a camera?

Yes! If you have a camera or small video recording device you can bring it with you. We recommend having a wrist or neck strap so that you can attach it to yourself when ziplining. Go Pro / Contour-style helmet cameras are permitted and do fit securely on the helmets, provided you bring the accessory straps required.

Do tours run in the winter and in the rain?

Ziptrek Ecotours run in all weather conditions. The Sasquatch and Bear Tours are only available in the summer, whilst the Apres Tour is available in the winter only.

Superfly Ziplines winter season starts mid-December and runs daily until mid-April. Superfly Ziplines and Treetops Adventures are open daily in summer from May until mid-October.

Tours run rain, snow, or shine! Please check the weather and dress appropriately for your tour. Generally, the weather in the Village reflects the weather on course. Refunds will not be given in the event of rain.

Health, safety and physical requirements:

Ziptreks minimum weight requirement for the Bear Tour is 55 lbs / 25 kg to a maximum of 275 lbs / 125 kg. Minimum weight requirement for the Eagle Tour and Sasquatch® Tour is 75 lbs / 32 kg.

Superfly Ziplines: Minimum of 7 years old and 60 lbs; maximum weight of 250 lbs. People with severe neck, back or other injuries are not recommended to participate.

Guests should be prepared for light physical exertion - the tour includes several flights of stairs and some hiking.

Smoking, drugs or alcohol are not permitted on any tour at any time.

Ziplining is not permitted for women who are pregnant.

Ziptrek Ecotours FAQs

What is the difference between the bear, eagle and mammoth tours.

Ziptrek has three distinct ziplining tours to choose from: Bear, Eagle and Mammoth. The main difference between the first two tours is the length of ziplines as well as the scenery; both tours last 2.5 to 3 hours in duration and include 5 ziplines. The Mammoth Tour includes both the Bear and Eagle lines in a huge 10-line tour. This tour lasts 4.5 hours and a mid-tour meal will be provided on course.

Ziptrek Bear's 5 ziplines range between 2,000 and 1,100 feet in length, and with the exception of the first line, this tour takes place in the old growth rainforest and you have the option of flipping upside down on the last line!

Ziptrek Eagle's 5 ziplines range between 400 and over 2,000 feet in length! This tour starts in the old growth rainforest but ends in Whistler Village, making some of these lines steeper.

Where do I meet for the tour?

The Ziptrek check-in desk is located inside the Carleton Lodge . You will find the Carleton Lodge at the base of Whistler Mountain across from the Whistler Gondola building. All guests are asked to arrive at the desk 15 minutes prior to the start of their tour to check in.

The Ziptrek check-in for the Sasquatch Tour is located at the kiosk next to the Blackcomb Gondola in the Upper Village. All guests are asked to arrive at the desk 15 minutes prior to the start of their tour to check in.

Once you have checked in for your tour, tour guides will get you ready for your tour. They will take care of all transportation from this point. To start your tour, you will be shuttled approximately 10 minutes up Blackcomb Mountain by van.

The Ziptrek check in location is at the Ziptrek Outfitting Base, located at the base of the Excalibur Gondola, opposite the Dubh Linn Gate Pub (Whistler Village).

How long is the tour?

Ziptrek's Winter Après Tour is 2 - 2.5 hours roundtrip. Ziptrek's Bear Tour is 2 - 2.5 hours roundtrip. Ziptrek's Eagle Tour is 2.5 - 3 hours roundtrip. Ziptrek's Sasquatch® tour is 1.5 hours roundtrip.

Superfly Ziplines FAQs

You are required to meet 15 minutes prior to your scheduled tour time. The Superfly Ziplines check-in desk is located inside The Adventure Group storefront at 211 - 4293 Mountain Square, near the Whistler Village Gondola and right beside Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory. Guests are also able to check in at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler.

Check in at our Cougar Mountain Base . If you are self-driving, follow Google Maps or Waze to Cougar Mountain Road, Whistler BC, just a 10 minute drive from Whistler Village. After turning off the highway, a short uphill drive through the forest will take you to the basecamp, where there is paid parking onsite.

If you have booked the shuttle, it will depart from Whistler Village at the Gateway Bus Loop, next to the taxi loop and Visitor Centre. Please arrive 15 minutes before your shuttle departure time.

Superfly Ziplines tour time is 1.5 - 2.5 hours. Tours start every 30 minutes. Superfly Ziplines is part of The Adventure Group Park Day Pass, giving you unlimited access to Ziplining, Aerial Obstacle Course, RZR Tours, and Vallea Lumina. Between adventures, hang out at our Cougar Mountain Basecamp; play games, enjoy food & beverage offerings and relax in nature.

What time is my tour?

With The Adventure Group Park Day Pass, you have unlimited access to all the activities available at Cougar Mountain Base and are not required to schedule a tour time in advance. On arrival, you will be able to put your name down for the next available tour of your choosing. Tours start every 30 minutes.

Is there food available at Cougar Mountain Base?

There are light food options at the Base. There are also games to enjoy while in between activites, such as giant Jenga, Connect 4 and cornhole.

My child wants to go Ziplining. Do I need to accompany them?

Children aged 15 and under require a chaperone aged 19+ to supervise the child from the ground for the duration of the tour. A chaperone ticket can be added at check-out. For children over the age of 15, a chaperone is not required. 1 adult can chaperone 10 children.

The ziplines are checked daily by our highly qualified guides and we've had no incidents of line breakages. Ziptrek has always maintained an outstanding safety record and we do everything within our power to minimize the risk you are exposed to.

  • What is the difference between tours arrow_drop_down

Ziptrek Falcon's  3 ziplines range between 1000' and over 2400' in length! This tour starts with a shuttle ride out of the village, zips in the old growth rainforest, and ends in Whistler Village providing an exhilarating journey that provides a great mix of thrill and nature. You can also travel at your own pace between ziplines. Not Currently Available.

Ziptrek Bear's  4 ziplines range between 400' and 1100' in length, tour takes place in the old growth rainforest and you have the option of flipping upside down on the last line!

Ziptrek Eagle's 5 ziplines range between 600' and over 2400' in length! This tour starts with a gondola ride out of the village, zips in the old growth rainforest, and ends in Whistler Village providing a wonderful circuit that includes some longer and steeper lines.

The Mammoth tour includes both the Bear and Eagle lines in a huge and impressive 10 line tour. This tour lasts 4.5 hours with a mid-tour meal provided on course.  Not Currently Available.

The Sasquatch ® has our newest and longest line, a true monster at over 2kms in length. It launches high up on Blackcomb Mountain at an elevation near 1,500 metres, and guests will reach speeds well over 100 km/h! Not for the faint of heart, but if you're looking for the ultimate zipline experience - this is it! ( Available summer season only ).

Winter Après Tour  take place in the early evening hours, often starting at dusk during the amazing alpenglow period and ending in the dark. Zipping at night provides its own unique thrill. This tour has 4 thrilling ziplines and is the perfect après activity! ( Available winter season only ).

TreeTrek Tours provide a non-zipping option that visits the same pristine area. Guests journey high amongst the treetops on a spectacular network of suspension bridges, suspended stairways, boardwalks and trails on a memorable tree canopy adventure. Back for Summer 2023.

  • What to bring arrow_drop_down

Winter: In winter, we recommend wearing layers of outdoor clothing. Generally we suggest wearing the same thing you'd wear skiing or snowboarding. Several (but not all) of our platforms have heaters, so guests can use those opportunities to seek out some additional warmth, if they wish.

  • Wear comfortable, supportive athletic or hiking shoes. No open toed shoes allowed, thus sandals and dress shoes are not permitted.
  • Wear comfortable clothing appropriate for the weather. The weather at the tour area is similar to  Whistler Village.
  • Every participant must read and sign our Release of Liability prior to participating.
  • No bags, purses or backpacks are allowed. Limited storage is available to store very small personal  belongings.
  • Secure all loose items (keys, cameras, change, etc.) in a sealed pocket. Small still and video  cameras are allowed if you can secure them in a pocket. Professional cameras and equipment may be brought with prior permission (only as they can pose a security risk).
  • Please avoid wearing insect repellent containing DEET.
  • Tours run rain or shine. Please refer to "What is your cancellation policy?" (below) for more information.
  • How do you stop arrow_drop_down

Ziptrek has a patented braking system. Guests do not have to worry about controlling their own speed, nor are they involved in the braking process, so they can just sit back and enjoy the ride (and views!) We can safely stop riders up to 275 lbs no matter what the wind conditions. With a varying assortment of individual lines and years of experience, we have hundreds of thousands of successful brakes behind us.

  • If I get scared can I quit arrow_drop_down

If you are nervous about zipping, firstly we would recommend taking our Ziptrek Bear tour. As covered in the tour description, this is our original tour which is ideal for first time zippers and families with young children. The Bear tour is made of up some of our shorter, and less steep lines. That said, they are still a healthy length, and distance off the ground (see the tour description for details). If the guest chooses to exit the course after zipping only the first line, or chooses not to zip at all, there are no refunds given in either scenario. There are a couple points where we can remove you from the tour if you feel too nervous to continue, however if you happen to zip from Blackcomb to Whistler Mountain you must zip at least one more time to get back to Blackcomb Mountain so that we can take you off the tour. Again, no refunds will be given if a guest chooses to exit the course at any given time (where there is the option to exit).

The Eagle Tour now starts with a Gondola ride out of the village to access the first zipline (which is our 2nd longest line, but longest in the winter season). If a guest chooses not to zip the first line, they may exit by returning to, and downloading on the gondola to get back to the village. In that scenario, no refunds will be given. After zipping the first line, it is very doubtful that any guest would want to exit the course later on in the tour (from being scared) but if they did choose to do that, there will be no refunds given.

These same rules apply to our other Tours - Mammoth and Winter Après, which are made up of the ziplines associated with the above tours.

These rules also apply to The Sasquatch ®  Tour. In this case, after travelling to the start / launch of the zipline (via gondola and van ride), the guest decides not to go through with zipping the line - they would need to back-track accordingly. This involves returning on the van (when available), and then downloading on the Gondola back to the Blackcomb base. Again, no refunds will be given in this scenario.

  • How long am I on the actual zipline arrow_drop_down

Your Ziptrek tour will include several different ziplines  (Exception being The Sasquatch®, which is 1 monster zipline) over the duration of the tour. (2.5 - 4.5 hours, depending on which tour option). In between each of these ziplines you will be required to do some walking. This will be done on tree platforms, suspension bridges, stairs, as well as some trails and boardwalks throughout the old growth rainforest. You will actually be on each individual zipline for approximately 30 to 45 seconds. (Exception being,  The Sasquatch ® , which is an extremely long line at over 2 kms where guests can expect to be on the zipline for approximately 90 - 100 seconds). Your speed is determined by your weight and the weather conditions of the day.

  • Do you provide transportation arrow_drop_down

Guests are required to meet and check-in at our set-up on the steps of the Excalibur Gondola in the main village (summer season) - see here . In winter season the check-in is at the Carleton Lodge. Transportation will be provided from this point. Guests will access complimentary transportation in the form of a van shuttle, or gondola ride, to the tour starting point on our course (exact location will depend on the particular tour).

  • What time do your tours run arrow_drop_down

Our tours operate every day of the year. There are several tour times available throughout each day and specific tour times vary depending on the day you chose to go zipping (and tour options, depending on the season). Please call our Guest Services Team or check the "Book Now" section for more specific times. Remember that we run several different Ziptrek tours in addition to our Tree Trek tours. See all  Tour Options . All tours run at different times throughout the day (when available). Please decide which tour you would like to zip before booking, as you will not be able to change this the day of your tour and remember to book early! See our cancellation policy (separate FAQ below) for additional information.

  • Do I need to make a reservation arrow_drop_down

Yes! We always recommend making reservations in advance. We book a maximum of 10 people (8 in winter) for each designated tour time, and therefore can sell out quickly. In order to guarantee spots, the tour you want, and the time that will work best with you please call our sales desk or click the "Book Now" link to make your reservations. The sooner you book the better! Please note that we have a 24 hour cancellation policy which allows you to change or cancel your tour 24 hours prior to the start of your tour. Summer and holidays are the busiest time of year for us and we recommend at least one weeks notice to book a tour during this busy time. This does not mean that if you call the day of that we won’t have any spots left, but that we cannot guarantee your preferred tour, or time, will still be available. Best to plan ahead to avoid potential disappointment.

  • What is your cancellation policy arrow_drop_down

Cancellations made within 24 hours prior to tour departure will be charged full tour price. Cancellations for groups of 10 or more participants require 72 hours notice or full charges apply. “Noshows” will also be charged full tour price. Charges for cancellations and noshows will be applied to the credit card provided. Ziptrek reserves the right to cancel tours due to inclement weather, foreseeable hazards, insufficient bookings, or events beyond our control. In these events, full refunds will be made or alternative dates offered.
