Nsikayesizwe David Junior Ngcobo, who is more popularly known as Nasty C, is the voice of his generation. The multi-award winning South African rapper originates from Durban in the KwaZulu-Natal Province, and has been dubbed “The Coolest Kid In Africa.” He takes this role seriously and has said: “I never chase the dream, I design it.”
Now he is amplifying that voice and embracing his global audience.
Recently signed to Def Jam Records, through a joint venture with Universal Music Africa, the 23-year-old rapper is prepping for the release of his third album, Zulu Man With Some Power. The signing sees the South African artist join a music royalty roster that includes the likes of Kanye West, Justin Beiber and Nas.
A legend-in-the-making himself, Nasty C says: “It’s powerful to be a part of the Def Jam family. It’s an iconic record label and has made the careers of many of the artists I look up to.”
For five years, Nasty C has had a singular focus: to push the boundaries of his own potential. As a result, the rapper-producer has released three mixtapes, two albums and featured on pan-African and international chart-toppers.
This hitmaker has been the most streamed South African artist on Apple Music for four years in a row. With over 120 million streams, Nasty C’s sophomore effort, Strings And Bling, was the most streamed South African and African album on the streaming platform in Sub-Saharan Africa.
The album spawned three multi-platinum singles – King, Jungle and the radio smash, SMA – as well as the platinum single, Strings And Bling. A further 14 songs off this album were certified gold.
Nasty C has the ear of the world and in 2019, he was the only South African nominated for a BET Hip Hop Award in the Best International Flow category. That year, he was also nominated for an MTV Europe Music Award. Strings and Bling won him two South African Music Awards and two AFRIMMAs.
Preceding this success, Nasty C released his debut album, Bad Hair (2016) and its re-release, Bad Hair Extensions, which featured French Montana. The seminal album earned him four Metro FM Music Awards, a South African Music Award and a BET Awards nomination.
It was proof that his breakthrough single, Juice Back, and his boundary-breaking mixtape, Price City (2014) were not just luck. Juice Back became a continent-wide smash and so followed a remix featuring Nigerian muso, Davido and South African rapper, Cassper Nyovest.
He has toured Africa, Asia, Europe, Australia and North America and brought his own live performance property, the Ivyson Tour, to Kenya, Zimbabwe, Namibia and more. Nasty C has always sought to make the globe even smaller through his music.
He has used his voice to bring the world to Africa but it speaks volumes that he now intends to take Africa to the world. One of the ways he will be doing this is through his upcoming album, Zulu Man With Some Power. Zulu is one of the cultures that originates from South Africa.
Nasty C says: “The title of my album was inspired by me openly embracing being Zulu. I am not going to pressure myself to drop a song rapping only in Zulu or to dress in traditional Zulu clothes all the time. I want to make it cool to express your culture in your own way. It feels like a big statement to make. It feels like I’m recognizing the power and influence of my people.”
The forthcoming album is preceded by a single called There They Go. The trap ditty is produced by American producer, Cxdy, and sees Nasty C reflect on writing 16s by the light and shaking off his haters.
“I sign deals, but I own my soul,” he raps on There They Go. Following his new deal with Def Jam, Nasty C says: “I have a great team that sees my vision. I am still me and no matter what deals I sign; I am not letting anyone dictate my sound or image.”
Part of Nasty C’s vision was to invite Andrew Sandler (who has worked with Lil Wayne, Chris Brown and more) to direct the There They Go music video and show his Durban hometown through a new lens. This is merely the beginning of Nasty C using his voice to present his narrative.

“About Damn Time!”: Nasty C & Cassper Nyovest collaboration finally happening
Rap superstars Nasty C and Cassper Nyovest are dropping their first-ever joint album, “Thick and Thin”, following their successful “African Throne” tour.
The holiday season just got a whole lot festive with the news of South African rap heavyweights Nasty C and Cassper Nyovest dropping their first-ever joint album aptly titled ‘Thick and Thin’. It’s safe to say the world is excited as this news comes hot off the heels of their successful “African Throne” tour, which took them to several African countries, including Nigeria, Tanzania and Botswana.
The two rappers made the big announcement during an exclusive interview on South African rapper L-Tido’s podcast, where they revealed a deluxe version of their collaboration project.

WHAT ARE FANS SAYING?
The announcement has unsurprisingly sent fans into a flurry of excitement. Many have expressed their excitement on social media, with one fan suitably stating, “About damn time…Cass was patient. Nasty was patient. ABOUT DAMN TIME.”
Their bond, which only seems to get stronger over the years, got fans remarking on their bromance, saying, “Casper and Nasty’s chemistry is unmatched. They get along so good.” And they’re not wrong to say this; after all, they go as far back as 2015 when Nasty C released his breakout single, ‘Juice Back’, featuring Cassper Nyovest and Nigerian artist, Davido.

Cassper & Nasty C Shed Light On Motivation Behind Upcoming “African Throne” Music Tour. In a much-anticipated joint press conference yesterday, South African music sensations Cassper Nyovest and Nasty C unveiled the driving forces behind their decision to embark on an expansive music tour set to captivate fans across the nation and beyond.
The two chart-topping rappers shed light on the motivation behind their collaborative tour dubbed the African Throne, which has already generated a buzz among music enthusiasts. Speaking during the interview shared on Slikour On Life, Nasty C said that this is the perfect time to go on a music tour with Cassper as hip-hop celebrates 50 years.
“It’s the perfect time to do that because we celebrating 50 years of Hip-hop globally. But you know Africa is always recognised for music in general but different sounds, Afrobeats, Kwaito, House but it has never been really hip-hop like that,” he said.
Cassper further expressed that he believes the current moment is ideal for embarking on a music tour of such a grand scale. The rapper said this juncture in his career calls for engaging endeavours and joining forces with Nasty C for this tour aligns perfectly with that sentiment.
“For me, I think I’m at a point in my career I’m trying to do interesting stuff. So I’ve never really like worked with another rapper who’s not like literally an everyday fan. Nasty I’ve always known him but never worked on anything like a project or tour. So for me, it was very exciting when TLee suggested it to me,” Cassper said.
The two are not only embarking on a music tour together, but they have also confirmed that they are dropping their long-awaited album on the same day.
