Why you need to know about ANA Mileage Club as a US-based traveler

Kyle Olsen

All Nippon Airways' Mileage Club has long been regarded as one of the top options for maximizing American Express Membership Rewards points . It offers redemption rates that are often significantly lower than other Amex partners, like Avianca LifeMiles and Air Canada Aeroplan , with the peace of mind of published award charts .

Although the program has quirks and an interface that may not be the most user-friendly, the potential savings make it worthwhile. In this article, we'll cover everything you need to know about ANA Mileage Club, including earning and redeeming miles.

How to earn ANA Mileage Club miles

ana travel package

There are several ways to earn ANA miles. Here's a look at some of the most popular options:

Transfer Amex points to ANA

You can transfer American Express Membership Rewards points to ANA Mileage Club at a 1:1 ratio. Generally, point transfers from Amex to ANA take around 48 hours . Unfortunately, ANA doesn't allow for award ticket holds , meaning that award availability could change by the time your Amex points arrive in your ANA Mileage Club account.

If you don't already have Amex points, you can earn a welcome bonus on an American Express card and potentially have enough points for an ANA Mileage Club redemption. Here's a look at some of the most popular American Express cards:

  • American Express® Gold Card : Earn 60,000 points after you spend $6,000 on purchases on your new card in your first six months of card membership.
  • The Platinum Card® from American Express : Earn 80,000 points after you spend $8,000 on purchases on your new card in your first six months of card membership.
  • The Business Platinum Card® from American Express : Earn 120,000 points after you spend $15,000 on qualifying purchases on the card within your first three months of card membership.
  • American Express® Green Card : Earn 40,000 points after you spend $3,000 on purchases in the first six months of card membership.

The information for the American Express Green Card has been collected independently by The Points Guy. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.

Transfer hotel points to ANA

Additionally, you can transfer hotel points to ANA. Here's a look at this option:

Earn ANA miles on ANA flights

For ANA-marketed and -operated flights, multiply the distance flown (basic sector mileage) by the accrual rate for the booking class to calculate mileage accruals. The accrual rates typically range from 30% to 150%, though some fare classes are ineligible for mileage accruals.

If you fly from New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to Tokyo's Haneda Airport (HND) in D-fare business class , you'll earn 8,465 Mileage Club miles on your booking since the fare class earns 125% miles flown. The math looks like this: 6,772 * 1.25 = 8,465.

Earn ANA miles on partner flights

For eligible partner flights you credit to ANA, you'll earn ANA miles as you would on ANA metal. The difference, however, is that accrual rates vary by the partner airline you're flying on.

ANA is a member of Star Alliance , so you can earn ANA miles on eligible Star Alliance flights in addition to flights on its non-alliance partner airlines. Here's a look at ANA's non-alliance partner carriers:

  • Air Dolomiti
  • Etihad Airways
  • Garuda Indonesia
  • Jet Airways
  • Olympic Air
  • Philippine Airlines
  • Vietnam Airlines
  • Virgin Atlantic
  • Virgin Australia

Other ways to earn ANA miles

You can also earn ANA miles through ANA World Hotels and ANA World Car Rentals , powered by Agoda. Earning rates for hotel bookings vary, while you'll earn 1 mile for every 100 Japanese yen (around $0.72) spent on car rentals.

How to redeem ANA Mileage Club miles

ana travel package

As mentioned, ANA still uses award charts, so as long as there's award space, you can book award flights at the published rates. Some partner flights won't appear on ANA's website, so you can use another top Star Alliance site or ExpertFlyer (owned by TPG's parent company, Red Ventures) to search for availability on most of ANA's partner airlines. Once you find award space, call ANA Mileage Club to confirm availability.

There are two significant limitations to ANA Mileage Club redemptions, however. First, you can only book round-trip awards, though the program allows for creative stopovers and open jaws on most award tickets. Second, you can only use your miles to book tickets for you and your family. If you plan to travel with a friend, they'll need their own ANA miles.

ANA has three types of awards: ANA domestic flight awards, ANA international flight awards and partner flight awards.

ANA domestic flight awards

The ANA domestic flight award chart lists round-trip flights within Japan from 5,000 miles.

The price of your flight will depend on the season (low, regular or high) and the distance of the flight. For example, a round-trip short-haul flight from Tokyo's Narita International Airport (NRT) or Haneda Airport (HND) to Osaka's Kansai International Airport (KIX) costs 5,000 miles during the low season, 6,000 miles during the regular season and 7,500 miles during the high season.

Longer domestic flights cost more miles. A round-trip flight from Okinawa's Naha Airport (OKA) to Sapporo's New Chitose Airport (CTS) costs 8,500 miles during the low season, 10,000 miles during the regular season and 11,500 miles during the high season.

ANA international flight awards

The ANA international flight award chart shows award prices in the various zones, cabins and seasonalities, with award rates starting at 12,000 miles for round-trip flights between Japan (Zone 1) and South Korea (Zone 2). You can book and combine Air Japan and ANA flights at these award rates.

ANA is known for having extremely limited premium-cabin award space. Still, if you find award space, you can book a round-trip flight between the U.S. and Japan for 75,000-90,000 miles in business class or 150,000-165,000 miles in first class, depending on seasonality.

Economy-class rates are between 40,000 and 55,000 miles.

At the time of writing, ANA flies from Tokyo to these American destinations:

  • Chicago's O'Hare International Airport (ORD)
  • Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH)
  • Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)
  • New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK)
  • San Francisco International Airport (SFO)
  • Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA)
  • Washington's Dulles International Airport (IAD)

Unfortunately, ANA charges fuel surcharges on its own award tickets, which currently sit at nearly $500 on round-trip flights between the U.S. and Japan. You can see the current fuel surcharges by clicking "International Surcharge Info" on the ANA fare rules webpage . Note that these surcharges apply in each direction on any class of travel, and the date ranges apply to your ticketing date. As you can see, the surcharges on a flight to Japan from the U.S. will drop from $216 each way to $173 each way as of Aug. 1.

You might be able to reduce your fuel surcharges by not starting or ending your trip in Japan, though the savings may be offset by additional costs to position to those spots.

You might also consider checking Virgin Atlantic Flying Club's award rates for ANA flights to Japan — especially since Flying Club is a transfer partner of all major credit card currencies.

Partner flight awards

The ANA partner flight award chart shows award rates on Star Alliance and non-alliance partners. While the partner award chart is zone-based like the ANA international award chart, it doesn't fluctuate on seasonality.

ANA passes fuel surcharges on to some partner airlines, including those part of the Lufthansa Group (Air Dolomiti, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Eurowings, Lufthansa and Swiss). These carriers have some of the highest fuel surcharges, with long-haul business-class taxes and fees routinely passing $1,500 per person. You can avoid fuel surcharges by sticking to partners like Air Canada, Air New Zealand, Avianca, Copa Airlines, SAS, Singapore Airlines, TAP Air Portugal and United Airlines (except on some United Asia flights).

The ANA partner chart has some bargain sweet spots. For example, you can travel round-trip in business class on Philippine Airlines from JFK to Manila's Ninoy Aquino International Airport (MNL) for just 95,000 miles plus roughly $500 per person in taxes and fees. TPG's Nick Ewen recently booked this exact award for three passengers in early 2024.

If Europe is on your mind, you can book round-trip flights in business class for just 88,000 miles (and minimal taxes and fees for carriers like TAP Air Portugal and United).

ana travel package

Another sweet spot is round-trip business class from the U.S. to South Africa for 104,000 miles. You can add a stopover in Europe on the way or in Ethiopia if you choose to fly on Ethiopian Airlines .

However, there are limitations on redeeming rewards based on the airline partner. For example, when using ANA miles, you may only have the option to book economy seats on Singapore Airlines for most flights, as Singapore Airlines typically reserves long-haul business- and first-class seats exclusively for its KrisFlyer mileage program .

Round-the-world tickets

ANA offers a surprisingly reasonable around-the-world award chart for multistop itineraries, which are priced based on the total distance you travel. There are certain restrictions to remember, but you can book up to 12 flight segments and four ground transfer segments on the same ticket, with the option for multiple stopovers. Mixed-cabin bookings are allowed, but the cost will be based on the highest booking class. Additionally, your itinerary must touch all three of ANA's around-the-world regions and return to the same zone where you departed.

While there are rules to follow, ANA's around-the-world awards are relatively easy to calculate using route mapping tools. These award tickets cannot be booked online and you must contact ANA Mileage Club to make the reservation. Fuel surcharges may also apply for certain partner flights. So it's advisable to choose carriers that don't add these surcharges if you want to save money.

You can learn more about ANA round-the-world tickets here .

Bottom line

ANA is one of the most lucrative airline loyalty programs out there. It has an excellent award chart and offers a great deal on true around-the-world itineraries, so be sure to consider it the next time you need to book a Star Alliance award ticket.

UPDATED! Exploring Japan With The ANA Experience Japan Fare

4    comments

Rob Dyer promo The Real Japan

ANA's Experience Japan Fare

By rob dyer, latest update - june 2023.

Presently, sales of both ANA’s Experience Japan Fare and their Visit Japan Fare are suspended. Of their 3 Special Fares, only the ANA Discover Japan Fare is currently on sale. The availability period for the Discover Japan Fare runs through to October 26, 2024, and you can purchase from 355 days before boarding. You can find details on that fare, and make bookings, here: https://www.ana.co.jp/en/gb/plan-book/promotions/special-fares/ .

I suspect the suspension is temporary, but I will monitor the situation, and keep this post updated on any changes to availability.

Discounted domestic flights

All Nippon Airways (usually abbreviated to ANA) is Japan's largest airline.

Their Experience Japan Fare is a special fare that can be used across ANA’s entire Japan domestic flight network. It's a service specifically designed for foreign visitors to Japan, priced to encourage exploration of Japan's diverse islands .

Prices are significantly lower than their standard domestic flights. However, it's also worth checking prices of the various low cost carrier airlines also operating in Japan.

ANA Customer Satisfaction

ANA is highly rated on review sites and social media, supporting ANA’s 5-star status. Asian hospitality is often referred to as the best, and ANA’s cabin crew are proof of this, being widely praised for their warm nature, professionalism, and attentiveness.

Onboard dining is a firm favorite for passengers as the airline serves local specialties such as Japanese Arare rice crackers and sushi. There’s even an upgrade option for economy and premium economy passengers to purchase for an enhanced dining experience.

A common criticism that passengers have with the airline is the ANA website. Customers have described the user experience as clunky and old fashioned , so let’s hope that the airline soon invests in modernizing its website in line with its 5-star status.

No official statistics can be found on Japan’s aviation authority website mlit.go.jp .

Skytrax Rating : 5 Star Airline (out of 5)

Skytrax Customer Rating : 8/10

Tripadvisor Airline Review Rating : 4.5/5 (average from 9,997 reviews)

Kayak Customer Rating : 8.3/10 (average from 4,552 reviews)

ANA has a 7/7 safety record according to AirlineRatings.com . This assesses whether an airline has an IATA Operational Safety Audit Certification, along with information from the World’s Aviation Governing Body, government, and crash data.

ANA is a first class airline when it comes to its soft product offerings, such as food and beverage and inflight service. Compared to business and first class seating on other 5-star airlines, ANA’s can look a little dated but is still comfortable and functional.

Although ANA and Singapore Airlines are currently connected via Star Alliance , their new joint venture would offer passengers joint fare products and greater alignment across their frequent flyer programs.

ANA Travel Ready Pre-flight Verification Service Streamlines Documentation Needed on International Travel

  • • From February 7, ANA will start accepting documents for pre-flight verification service, ANA Travel Ready, which will be offered on routes from Japan to the U.S., Europe, and China.
  • • By applying for and confirming the necessary documents in advance, passengers will be able to come to the airport and board smoothly on the day of travel.

TOKYO, Feb. 7, 2022 - All Nippon Airways (ANA), Japan's largest and 5-Star airline for nine consecutive years is offering a new solution to streamline the international boarding process with the introduction of ANA Travel Ready - a service that accepts and clears all necessary documents prior to departure. ANA will begin accepting required COVID-19 certifications and other documents on February 7 and the service will be available for flights from Japan to the U.S., Europe, and China that depart from February 10 and onward. Because required travel documents are subject to change for each destination, ANA will work proactively to inform passengers of any changes and take all necessary steps to improve customer convenience.

"The need to take precautions against the spread of COVID-19 has fundamentally altered international travel over the past two years, with countries mandating a range of health documents in order to gain entry," said Masaki Yokai, Executive Vice President overseeing the Operations Support Center at ANA. "We understand how the various regulations can be complicated for travelers and ANA wants to take all the steps we could to simplify the process. By submitting negative test results, vaccine verification and other documents online in advance of an international flight, passengers can be confident that they are fully approved for entry at their final destination before leaving for the airport."

ANA Travel Ready will initially be available on 20 flights on 19 routes in total from Tokyo Haneda and Tokyo Narita to the U.S., Europe and China. More routes will be considered in the future. Details of the eligible routes and the start date of the service will be announced on the ANA website. All passengers with reservations for ANA operated flights on the above routes are eligible to participate.

Passengers on eligible routes will receive an email 72 hours prior to departure containing a link to the ANA Travel Ready website . Via this link, passengers can then confirm that they have the latest versions of the documents required for overseas travel in the "Information Regarding Travel from/to Japan and Other Countries" section, and upload the documents. If any documents are incomplete or missing, passengers will then be contacted by email with a request for additional information. Passengers will be notified once all mandatory documents are confirmed, and online check-in will be available 24 hours prior to departure time. Passengers that have checked in and are flying without checked baggage can proceed directly to the security checkpoint.

ANA Travel Ready eliminates the need for document verification at the check-in counter on the day of departure. Passengers are requested to register at least 12 hours prior to departure. However, passengers who have not completed document verification at least 6 hours prior to departure will be required to bring all documents to the check-in counter for verification. In addition, those participating in ANA Travel Ready will still need to go through standard immigration procedures at your destination. Please be sure to bring all documents before departure.

Introduction

Welcome to the world of stopovers with ANA. If you’re a frequent traveler or looking to make the most of your air travel experience, then a stopover could be the perfect solution for you. A stopover allows you to break up your journey and spend a few days exploring an additional destination on your way to your final destination. In this article, we will delve into the world of stopovers with ANA and discover the benefits of incorporating them into your travel plans.

ANA, All Nippon Airways, is a renowned Japanese airline that offers a wide range of stopover options, allowing you to experience the best of both worlds. Whether you’re planning a trip to Japan or connecting through Tokyo, ANA makes it easy to add an extra adventure to your journey. So, where will your next stopover take you?

By taking advantage of a stopover, you can maximize your travel experience by exploring a new city, indulging in the local culture, and discovering hidden gems along the way. Not only does a stopover offer an opportunity to see more, but it can also help break up long journeys and alleviate travel fatigue. Plus, it allows you to add another stamp to your passport and create unforgettable memories.

With ANA, you can enjoy all the conveniences and comforts of flying with a premium airline while also gaining the flexibility to explore new destinations. Whether you’re a solo traveler, a couple, or a family, ANA ensures that your stopover experience is hassle-free and tailored to your specific needs.

In the following sections, we will guide you through the process of booking a stopover with ANA, help you choose the perfect destination, and provide tips on maximizing your time during your stopover. So, sit back, relax, and let ANA take you on an incredible journey of discovery.

What is a stopover?

A stopover is a fantastic opportunity to extend your layover in a layover city and explore it further for a few days, rather than rushing to catch your connecting flight. It is a strategic break in your journey, allowing you to add an additional destination to your itinerary without incurring significant extra costs. Stopovers are different from layovers, which are usually shorter in duration and primarily serve as the time between connecting flights.

When you opt for a stopover, you get the chance to experience the culture, cuisine, and attractions of a new city or country. It’s like taking a mini-vacation within your overall travel plans. Whether you’re interested in exploring historical landmarks, sampling local delicacies, or simply immersing yourself in a different way of life, a stopover provides you with the perfect opportunity to do so.

Stopovers also offer flexibility, allowing you to break your journey at a convenient point and customize your travel experience. You can choose the duration of your stopover, allowing you to spend a few days, a week, or even longer in your layover city. This flexibility allows you to tailor your trip to your interests and schedule, ensuring you make the most of your time.

One of the major advantages of a stopover with ANA is that you can enjoy a taste of two destinations for the price of one flight. For example, if you’re traveling from Los Angeles to Tokyo with ANA and choose a stopover in Tokyo, you can explore the vibrant and bustling capital of Japan before continuing on to your final destination. This way, you not only get to experience the unique culture and attractions of Tokyo but also enjoy a seamless and convenient journey with ANA.

In the next section, we will delve into the benefits of doing a stopover with ANA and explore why it is a great choice for enhancing your travel experience.

Benefits of doing a stopover with ANA

Choosing to do a stopover with ANA comes with an array of benefits that can enhance your overall travel experience. Here are some of the key advantages:

  • Explore a new destination: With a stopover, you have the opportunity to visit a city or country that might not have been on your original travel itinerary. Whether it’s the vibrant streets of Tokyo, the historical sites of Kyoto, or the pristine beaches of Okinawa, ANA offers a range of stopover destinations that cater to various interests.
  • Extend your vacation: A stopover allows you to extend your trip and make the most of your vacation time. Instead of rushing through a layover city, you can take a few days to immerse yourself in a new culture, discover local attractions, or indulge in unique culinary experiences.
  • Break up long journeys: If you’re embarking on a long-haul flight, a stopover can break up the journey and help combat travel fatigue. Instead of spending hours upon hours on a plane, you can enjoy a refreshing break in your layover city before continuing on to your final destination.
  • Convenience and flexibility: ANA offers flexible stopover options, allowing you to choose the duration that suits your needs. Whether you prefer a short stopover or wish to spend more time exploring, you have the freedom to customize your itinerary. ANA also provides seamless connections between flights, ensuring a smooth transition from your stopover to your final destination.
  • Value for money: Opting for a stopover with ANA allows you to make the most of your travel budget. Instead of paying for separate flights to each destination, you can enjoy the convenience of adding an extra city to your itinerary at a fraction of the cost.
  • Experience ANA’s renowned service: ANA is known for its exceptional service and hospitality. By choosing a stopover with ANA, you can experience the airline’s top-notch amenities, comfortable seating, delicious meals, and warm customer care. From the moment you step on board, you’ll be treated to a memorable journey.

These are just a few of the many benefits of doing a stopover with ANA. The airline’s commitment to customer satisfaction and seamless travel experiences ensures that your stopover will be a memorable and rewarding part of your overall trip.

In the next section, we will guide you through the process of booking a stopover with ANA, making it even easier for you to incorporate this exciting travel option into your plans.

How to book a stopover with ANA

Booking a stopover with ANA is a simple and straightforward process. Follow these steps to add a stopover to your travel itinerary:

  • Choose your destination: Begin by deciding on the stopover destination you would like to explore. ANA offers a variety of enticing options, including Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, and more. Consider your interests, available time, and any specific attractions or experiences you want to have in mind when selecting your destination.
  • Research visa requirements: Ensure that you are aware of the visa requirements for your chosen stopover destination. Depending on your nationality, you may need to apply for a visa in advance. Visit the official website of the embassy or consulate of the country you plan to stopover in for the most up-to-date information.
  • Search for flights: Visit the ANA website or use a trusted online travel agency to search for flights. Enter your departure and arrival cities, and select the option that includes a stopover in your chosen destination. ANA’s user-friendly booking system will guide you through the available options and allow you to choose the duration of your stopover.
  • Review your itinerary: Once you have selected your flights with the stopover, carefully review your travel itinerary to ensure that it aligns with your preferences and travel plans. Check the dates, times, and layover duration to make sure everything fits seamlessly.
  • Confirm your booking: Once you are satisfied with your travel itinerary, proceed to confirm your booking by following the instructions provided on the booking platform. Enter your personal and payment details, and complete the transaction to secure your flights.
  • Plan your stopover activities: While waiting for your trip, take the time to plan your activities and research the must-see attractions, local cuisine, and cultural experiences in your stopover city. This will ensure that you make the most of your time and enjoy a memorable stopover experience.
  • Arrive at your stopover destination: On the day of your stopover, arrive at the airport early, allowing ample time for security checks and immigration procedures. Once you touch down in your stopover city, embark on your mini-adventure and immerse yourself in the unique sights, sounds, and flavors it has to offer.

Remember to keep your travel documents, such as your passport and visa, readily accessible throughout your journey.

By following these steps, you can easily book a stopover with ANA and unlock the benefits of exploring an additional destination during your travels.

In the next section, we’ll discuss how to choose the perfect stopover destination with ANA.

Choosing your stopover destination

When it comes to choosing your stopover destination with ANA, you’ll be spoiled for choice. ANA provides a variety of exciting options that cater to different interests and preferences. Consider the following factors to help you decide on the perfect stopover destination:

  • Personal interests: Think about what kind of experiences you enjoy when traveling. Are you a history buff, a foodie, a nature lover, or someone who enjoys vibrant city life? ANA’s stopover destinations offer a diverse range of attractions and activities, so choose a destination that aligns with your personal interests.
  • City or nature: Decide whether you prefer to explore a bustling metropolis or immerse yourself in the tranquility of nature. Tokyo offers a vibrant urban experience with its skyscrapers, shopping districts, and cultural landmarks, while cities like Sapporo provide access to breathtaking natural landscapes like mountains, hot springs, and beautiful national parks.
  • Seasonal highlights: Consider the time of year you will be traveling and the seasonal highlights of your potential stopover destinations. For example, if you visit during cherry blossom season, Kyoto’s temples and gardens will be adorned with beautiful pink blooms. If you’re traveling in the winter, Hokkaido’s snow-covered landscapes offer excellent skiing opportunities.
  • Duration of your stopover: Keep in mind the duration of your stopover and the amount of time you want to spend exploring. Some destinations may offer more attractions and activities that can be covered in a shorter time, while others may require a longer stay to fully experience everything they have to offer.
  • Cultural experiences: Consider the cultural experiences available in each stopover destination. From participating in tea ceremonies in Kyoto to witnessing the traditional taiko drum performances in Nagoya, each city has its unique cultural offerings that can enrich your travel experience.
  • Connectivity: Evaluate the connectivity and accessibility of your stopover destination. Ensure that the city has good transportation links, both within the city and to your final destination, making it easy for you to navigate and explore during your stopover.

By considering these factors, you can narrow down your choices and select the stopover destination that aligns with your interests, preferences, and available time. Remember, ANA offers various stopover options, including Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, Fukuoka, and many more, so there is something for everyone.

In the next section, we will discuss the duration of a stopover and how to make the most of your time in your chosen destination.

Duration of stopover

The duration of your stopover with ANA depends on your personal preferences, available time, and the activities and attractions you wish to experience in your chosen city. ANA offers flexibility when it comes to stopover durations, allowing you to customize your itinerary to suit your needs. Here are a few factors to consider when determining the duration of your stopover:

  • Your interests and activities: Consider the activities and attractions you want to experience in your stopover destination. If you have a long list of must-see sights and want to fully immerse yourself in the local culture, you may want to choose a longer stopover duration to ensure you have enough time to explore.
  • City size and attractions: The size of the city and the number of attractions it offers should also influence the duration of your stopover. For example, a smaller city like Kyoto can be explored more comprehensively during a shorter stopover, while a bustling metropolis like Tokyo may require a bit more time to cover its diverse neighborhoods and major landmarks.
  • Travel fatigue: Take into account any travel fatigue you may experience during long-haul flights. If you anticipate needing some rest and recovery time before continuing your journey, consider adding an extra day or two to your stopover duration to ensure you’re well-rested and ready for the next leg of your trip.
  • Seasonal considerations: If your stopover destination has seasonal highlights, such as festivals or natural phenomena, you may want to plan your stopover duration around these events. Allowing yourself enough time to attend a festival or witness a natural spectacle can greatly enhance your overall travel experience.
  • Transportation connections: Evaluate the transportation connections between your stopover city and your final destination. Ensure that there are convenient and reliable flights or other modes of transport available to continue your journey without any significant delays or challenges.

Ultimately, the duration of your stopover is a personal choice and should be based on your preferences and priorities. Whether you decide on a short stopover of a few days or choose to spend a week exploring your layover city, ANA’s flexible options make it easy to design a stopover experience that suits your travel plans.

In the next section, we will provide tips on making the most of your stopover and ensure you have an unforgettable time in your chosen destination.

Making the most of your stopover

When it comes to making the most of your stopover with ANA, proper planning and preparation are key. Here are some tips to help you make the most of your time in your chosen stopover destination:

  • Prioritize your must-see attractions: Research the top attractions and landmarks in your stopover city and make a list of must-see sights. Prioritize these attractions based on your interests and available time to ensure you don’t miss out on the highlights.
  • Plan your itinerary: Create a detailed itinerary for your stopover, including the attractions you want to visit, the activities you want to experience, and the restaurants or cafes you’d like to try. Having a plan in place will help you make the most efficient use of your time.
  • Take advantage of local transportation: Familiarize yourself with the local transportation options, such as trains, buses, or subways, in your stopover city. This will allow you to navigate the city easily and efficiently, maximizing your time spent exploring.
  • Immerse yourself in the local culture: One of the best ways to make the most of your stopover is to immerse yourself in the local culture. Try traditional foods, visit local markets, and interact with the locals to get a glimpse of the authentic local lifestyle.
  • Go off the beaten path: While popular tourist attractions are a must-see, also consider exploring off-the-beaten-path neighborhoods and hidden gems. These hidden spots often provide a more authentic and unique experience of the city.
  • Indulge in local cuisine: Don’t miss the opportunity to try the local cuisine of your stopover city. Whether it’s savoring sushi in Tokyo, enjoying ramen in Osaka, or feasting on street food in Fukuoka, let your taste buds explore the flavors of the destination.
  • Be mindful of your time: Keep track of time during your stopover to ensure you don’t miss your connecting flight. Plan your activities accordingly and allow yourself enough time to get back to the airport and go through any necessary security procedures.
  • Capture memories: Take plenty of photos and videos to capture the memories of your stopover. These visual reminders will allow you to relive your experiences and share them with family and friends.
  • Stay flexible: While it’s important to have an itinerary, also stay flexible and open to spontaneous discoveries. Leave room for unexpected adventures and opportunities that may arise during your stopover.

Remember, a stopover is a unique opportunity to experience a new city or country, so embrace the adventure and make the most of every moment.
