Avatar Book Summer 2022 North American Tour With Light the Torch + Otep

For the month of July, "Avatar Country" will annex parts of the U.S. and Canada. That's because Avatar are heading back to North America for shows this summer, and they're taking Light the Torch and Otep along with them.

Avatar were already booked for several summer festivals, and the newly announced dates will surround them. The tour itself kicks off July 6 in Toronto, wrapping at the end of the month on July 31 in Tucson, Arizona. As stated, in the midst of the run, the band will perform at the midwestern festivals Rock Fest, Upheaval and Inkcarceration over the course of one weekend. See all of the stops listed below.

Though Avatar have been releasing stand-alone songs of late, a new album is definitely in the works. The group has once again teamed up with producer Jay Ruston to work on the set, but did offer this statement on the upcoming dates:  "They don't let us out much while we make our albums, so this summer will most likely turn out very dangerous for everyone involved. For all the tours we've done in North America, we have spent very little time there in the summer. Surely this must have led to a lot of unnecessary suffering that we are adamant on setting straight by applying necessary suffering. We know people crave some light-hearted tunes for their make out sessions on the beach, and some sweet melodies as they watch the sun set over the lake. We are here to destroy every single moment of summer time serenity. The sun will be the second hottest thing you'll see in July. To finally do something with Otep feels great, and to once again hit the road with Light the Torch will be awesome, as well."

Swedish heavy metal band Avatar have announced a Summer 2022 North American tour with Light the Torch and Otep.

The outing launches on July 6th in Toronto and runs through the end of July, wrapping up with a July 31st date in Tucson, Arizona.

Pre-sale tickets are available beginning Wednesday and Thursday (use code ROADIE ), with the standard on-sale set for Friday (April 29th) at 10 a.m. local time. Get tickets via Ticketmaster .

“They don’t let us out much while we make our albums, so this summer will most likely turn out very dangerous for everyone involved,” remarked Avatar in a press release. “For all the tours we’ve done in North America, we have spent very little time there in the summer. Surely this must have led to a lot of unnecessary suffering that we are adamant on setting straight by applying necessary suffering.”

Avatar are currently “sequestered deep in a Swedish forest” working on their ninth studio album with Jay Ruston. Fans can expect to hear more of the band’s distinctive brand of theatrical extreme metal both on the LP and in concert.

“We know people crave some light-hearted tunes for their make out sessions on the beach, and some sweet melodies as they watch the sun set over the lake,” the band stated. “We are here to destroy every single moment of summer time serenity. The sun will be the second hottest thing you’ll see in July. To finally do something with Otep feels great, and to once again hit the road with Light the Torch will be awesome, as well.”

Avatar Announce Summer 2022 Headline Tour

Theatrical Swedish metal troupe Avatar are currently hard at work on their upcoming ninth album, the follow-up to 2020's Hunter Gatherer . But they've already got a summer break lined up. The band just announced a big North American headlining tour that will see them joined by the Howard Jones-led Light the Torch and nu-metal veterans Otep. See the itinerary below. Avatar Announces The Chimp Mosh Pit Tour

Swedish metal band, Avatar , has announced their The Chimp Mosh Pit North American Tour. The 23 date tour includes stops at the Phoenix Concert Theatre in Toronto on September 14th along with stops in Montreal, Vancouver and Edmonton.

The band’s fan club pre-sale is going on currently, and general sales start on Friday Jun 23, 10am local time.

“They don’t let us out much while we make our albums, so this summer will most likely turn out very dangerous for everyone involved,” the band says. “For all the tours we’ve done in North America, we have spent very little time there in the summer. Surely this must have led to a lot of unnecessary suffering that we are adamant on setting straight by applying necessary suffering. We know people crave some light-hearted tunes for their make out sessions on the beach, and some sweet melodies as they watch the sun set over the lake. We are here to destroy every single moment of summer time serenity. The sun will be the second hottest thing you’ll see in July. To finally do something with Otep feels great, and to once again hit the road with Light the Torch will be awesome, as well.”

AVATAR 's ninth album, "Dance Devil Dance" , was released in February via Black Waltz Records , distributed by Thirty Tigers .

"Dance Devil Dance" was recorded in the Swedish wilderness, far away from all the perceived glamor of the big city and modern studios. Jay Ruston ( ANTHRAX , MR. BUNGLE , CROBOT , STONE SOUR , AMON AMARTH , URIAH HEEP ) returned as producer. He first worked with AVATAR when he mixed "Hail The Apocalypse" , a role he reprised on "Feathers & Flesh" before taking the wheel as producer on "Avatar Country" and "Hunter Gatherer" .

Last August, Eckerström told TotalRock about AVATAR 's latest LP: "My best thing to liken it to is [ JUDAS PRIEST 's] 'British Steel' in the sense of that… JUDAS PRIEST were always great, and before 'British Steel' you had 'Killing Machine' , you had 'Sad Wings Of Destiny' and all this, but they were a great heavy metal band, a great rock and roll band, a great prog band at times and kind of eclectic. And then with 'British Steel' I find they really got laser focused, cut off the fat. And we're focused on what we feel right now metal needs — this very pompous but yet…

"Honestly, I feel like we have to save heavy metal," he continued. "Because either people are lost in the past… They did it better than we will ever do what they do. Don't do that. What's next? What's next for us? And do that without disappearing up your own asses completely.

"When people end up doing metal that is best enjoyed while sitting down and shutting up, you miss the point," Johannes added. "Metal is the music that you move to — in the pit, banging your head, dancing around, whatever, lifting weights, drinking too much, getting pregnant, impregnating someone, doing things. It's music to move with. You have drums in the band; why would you have drums if you don't move?

"We look a lot to the masters — that is wisdom from MOTÖRHEAD , from JUDAS PRIEST , from a lot of things — but then just… yeah, that, but not that . They did that. We're now and what's next with that. Where can we try to help bring it? And that is this album."

AVATAR enjoyed quite a productive summer last year, traipsing North America on a successful headline tour. They next embarked on some of the biggest shows of the career — a trek with IRON MAIDEN , supporting the band in stadiums in Brazil. AVATAR also played arenas supporting SABATON . They secured slots at major festivals globally — Inkcarceration , Summer Breeze and Bloodstock Open Air , among others.
