😇 Conclusion
✉ tell us in comments as per you which one best moisturizer for face.
Because moisturizers are usually prepared to fulfill the demands of specific skin types, it’s a smart idea to start there.
The most common skin types are:
- Dry (will benefit from a heavier, oil-based moisturizer)
- Oily (will benefit from lighter, water-based moisturizers)
- Mature (will benefit from oil-based moisturizers to preserve moisture)
- Sensitive (will benefit from soothing ingredients, like aloe, that won’t be harsh on the skin)
- Normal/Combination (will benefit from a lighter, water-based moisturizer)
To determine your skin type, consider your shower experience and check product labels for specific skin types.
Moisturizers can hydrate, treat breakouts, soothe irritations, even skin tone, and smooth fine lines and wrinkles. Combination skin is a blend of both types.
- Ingredients: Cosmetics don’t need FDA approval, but must declare all components for buyers’ decision-making. Check EWG’s Skin Deep database for ingredient information, as it’s often difficult to read.
- Weather Conditions: Weather and purchase timing significantly influence face cream selection. Winters require thick cream for hydration, while hot or humid months require lighter lotions or moisturizers to prevent breakouts and clog pores.
- SPF Addition: For daily or morning face cream, use sunscreen with an SPF of 30-50, depending on outdoor time. Regular use of sunscreen protects skin from harmful UV rays and light reflections. For home use, use an SPF 15 face moisturizer or cream. Remember to apply sunscreen before going outside.
- Enriching Vitamins : Choose a face cream with vitamin A or E for skin healing, smoothing, and hydration benefits. These creams slow down aging, prevent wrinkles, reduce blemishes, and promote healthy skin cell growth. Choose a product that offers more than just hydration.
- Price : Product price often misleads us into seeking expensive options, but leading brands offer high-quality products at various prices. Choose a face cream within your budget, especially when testing a new brand.

The 11 Best Mini-Sized Beauty Products, According to a Beauty Writer Who Travels All the Time
Byrdie / Amelia Manley
Minis are really cute; whether it’s a toy car, a baby animal, or a doll-sized kitchen set, miniature items have a way of melting my heart every time. My favorite category of all within the “mini” genre is probably a dead-giveaway: makeup. I’ve spent hours in those dangerous check-out lanes of Sephora where exclusively-made miniature skincare, makeup, brushes, and sponges have been placed (brilliantly) for customers awaiting check-out. On several occasions, I’ve gone in for literally only one item, and ended up leaving with dozens of others because of a long check-out line; I just kept finding more of my favorite products in travel sizes.
Because I travel a lot, I dedicate a good amount of time to strategically packing. I usually bring an entire pharmacy with me because I never know what to expect from a foreign country’s drugstores or local shopping, lest I forget something. There’s also nothing worse for me than re-purchasing something I know that I already have at home. If you’re like me and you belong to the COO club (carry-on only), you’ve had your fair share of experiences with an overstuffed bag. I can’t even count the number of times I’ve had to sit on my Rimowa luggage, praying it doesn’t crack, just so that I could zip it into something shaped like an Oreo cookie (the fabric space-expanders spilling out everywhere).
After finding out that many brands make miniature versions of their beloved products, I started researching to see what else was out there. Since switching exclusively to minis for travel , my bags have gotten a lot lighter.
With travel season upon us, I decided to round up all of the best mini products. So, whether you’re packing for your trip to Mallorca, you want to try something new with less cost commitment, or you just love how cute miniature makeup looks on your vanity, I’ve rounded up all the fan-favorites here.

We're giving top honors to the Augustinus Bader The Cream . Its innovative formula is packed with natural amino acids, vitamins, and molecules to help regenerate your body's own stem cells. It's also packed with great hydrating ingredients like aloe leaf, avocado, shea butter, and more, so it certainly lives up to its claim of replacing every skin product you need after cleansing.

What to Look for in Travel Size Beauty Products
Packaging materials.
Whether you're just tossing it in your bag for touchups or traveling on a plane, you'll want to make sure the product you're buying is made of up durable materials. It shouldn't pop open or break and spill all over your bag.
Application
While minis are compact and easy to pack when you need to travel light, always consider the product's application. If you have to pack extra tools for it, then it takes up more space than its cute small size. If you aren't positive what more will be needed for products, reference all-in-one makeup kits to review what you need to accompany assorted products.
You might find yourself distracted by the shiniest and most exciting products, but don't forget to purchase and pack the everyday items you need, too. Whether your staples include brow gel, sunscreen, or lip gloss, you'll want to have a mini-version of the things you rely on the most, not just the fun extras.
When looking to travel by air, you'll need to adhere to the TSA rules for carry-on cosmetics. You're allowed to bring a total of one quart-sized clear, resealable bag filled with products. Inside this bag, each item needs to be 3.4 ounces or less.
Provided you will use up whatever is contained in your travel-size toiletries, they are worth it. That's because you were able to carry them on rather than pay extra for a checked bag, which costs more. You'll want to recycle them instead of putting them in the trash to reduce your carbon footprint.
Travel-size toiletries last about the same amount of time as their full-size counterparts; it's dependent on how long that specific product lasts. Mascara can get dried out and exposed to bacteria , and should be replaced every few months.
The TSA is pretty strict about traveling with liquids, and because of that, its rules about what counts as a liquid err on the, well, solid side. Aerosols, pastes, creams, and gels are all liquids, so makeup products like mascara, foundation, eyeline r , moisturizer, and perfume are all considered liquid.

21 Beauty Products So Good I Bought Them in Travel-Size Too
While traveling is one of my favorite parts of life, packing for travel is not. I've always found it particularly stressful as there's so much to think about: the weather, destination, activities I'll be doing, type of hotel bathroom mirror situation I'll be working with… Do I need a blow dryer? The list of questions that go through my head goes on and on.
One thing that has made it significantly less stressful for me (and given me the ability to actually travel with just a carry-on ) is that I've recently stocked up on many of my favorite beauty products in travel-size. This has revolutionized my packing experience —I no longer have to figure out which products are TSA-approved as they're already under the liquid size limit, plus I keep most of them together in my travel cosmetics case, so they're ready to go whenever I am.
Below I've outlined my can't-leave-home-without products for skin, hair, and body that purchasing in travel-size has changed my life for the better.
I'm not one to use the term "ride or die," but if I were, I would describe this texturizing spray as such. It's the perfect ratio of grit and hold, plus I always get compliments on Oribe's mesmerizing signature scent. I truly wouldn't go on a trip without it.
Anti-humidity hair spray is a good call in every climate—if there's moisture in the air, it helps keep frizz at bay. If it's on the dry side, this product simply acts as a normal hairspray to keep things in place.
I don't even have to explain why packing dry shampoo is a must. This one smells great and doesn't leave any white residue like so many do.
I spend a lot of time (and money, TBH) dyeing my hair, so I need to ensure I'm protecting the color even when I'm traveling, and not just any shampoo will do so. That's why I don't go anywhere without this color-protecting shampoo from Oribe—which is my favorite haircare brand if you haven't figured that out already.
Obviously can't overlook the conditioner either.
Another Oribe product I can't live without is the Restyle Spray because, let's face it, on vacation you're bound to be doing your hair over and over again without washing (okay, I do that in my normal life as well, but you get the point). This magical spray makes my hair feel hydrated and nourished, while also activating yesterday's products and providing heat protection.
This is my holy-grail makeup remover—it melts away even stubborn waterproof eyeliner and mascara in one easy swipe. Plus, it's clean so if you're attempting to move towards a non-toxic beauty routine like I am, this is a great addition.
I started double-cleansing per advice from my esthetician a few years ago, and it dramatically changed my skin. Bioderma's Sensibio is my go-to cleansing water for after I wash my face to ensure every speck of dirt and makeup are gone. I simply add a splash to a cotton ball and run it over my face (and am always shocked and horrified to see how much gunk is on there even after my face feels clean). I forgo washing with a cleanser and water in the morning and simply use my Sensibio again before getting ready for the day. This cute travel mini version is a staple in my travel cosmetics bag.
I use this serum every morning before heading out for the day to protect my skin from airborne pollutants while also helping soothe and heal my perpetually irritated skin . Bonus: The full-size bottle is only one ounce, so you can travel with it no problem.
If you haven't tried Caudalie's Radiance Serum, I can't recommend it enough. I find it to be much more effective than any vitamin C serum I've tried as far as skin brightening goes, without any irritation to my sensitive skin. I use this underneath my makeup and even wear it sans makeup when possible because it makes my skin look that glowy—seriously. Sadly it only comes in one size, but thankfully that size is under 3.4 ounces.
This two-in-one moisturizer contains hyaluronic acid, vitamin B5, and vitamin E to hydrate the skin, plus SPF 30 so I can skip packing a facial sunscreen and simply rely on this to protect my skin, too.
These are my bronzing secret weapon—I add a few drops to my moisturizer or sunscreen, and they give you an instant boost of natural-looking bronze glow.
Dr. Sturm's new facial mist is the ultimate multi-tasker—it has hyaluronic acid to give your skin a big boost of moisture whenever you need it. I spray it whenever my skin needs a refresher throughout the day. I also use it as the final step in my makeup routine so you can skip packing your typical setting spray.
As someone with ultra-sensitive skin and rosacea , I've never been able to use a retinol, despite its magical anti-aging properties. That is until I discovered Shani Darden 's texture reform that features a gentle retinol that works to reduce the appearance of sunspots and redness while softening fine lines and wrinkles. I've been using this product twice per week, and it doesn't irritate my skin in the slightest. Luckily you don't need a travel-size version as the full-size is only one fluid ounce—meaning it's already TSA-approved.
Another multi-tasking product I'm obsessed with are M-61's Powerglow Peel pads. Containing both glycolic and salicylic acid, vitamin K, antioxidants, chamomile and lavender, these pads help exfoliate and resurface the skin to give you a glow like no other. I use them once a week at night and wake up with clear, radiant skin. My pores are also noticeably smaller and any lines I'm starting to notice are less visible. So instead of packing eight different products to achieve these results, I simply throw one of these pads in my bag and my work here is done.
This illuminating balm can be used on your face, décolletage, legs, or arms to give skin a dewy glow. This is another one that works double duty as a full-size and travel-size, and I actually throw it in my bag when I go out now for touch-ups.
If I were to choose one thing to be stranded on a desert island with, it would be Fresh Beauty's Sugar Lip Balm. It's ultra-hydrating and gives just a subtle hint of sheen. I even got my boyfriend hooked on it, despite the sheen factor, because it's that good.
I received this kit as a gift and have never been more grateful. The travel-size body wash and lotion have been on heavy rotation recently as they work well and the scent is heavenly.
Le Labo's fragrances need no introduction (and are very self-explanatory on why I would want to travel with them). Blame it on too many traumatic TSA incidents, but carrying around my full-size bottle gives me anxiety, so I prefer to take this 15ml version with me instead.
I use this bag to carry all of my travel essentials—no mess to worry about.
Okay, so this isn't technically a beauty product, but it does help me get my beauty sleep when I travel, so I thought I'd include it (apologies for the dad joke). I truly never leave home without it.

The 14 Best Travel-Size Beauty Products
You won’t have to abandon your regimen with these excellent miniature picks.
Every item on this page was chosen by a Shondaland editor. We may earn commission on some of the items you choose to buy.
Few things are more exciting than traveling, especially after almost two years of doing nearly everything from home. Whether you’re heading home to visit your family or escaping the cold weather and fleeing to a sandy beach in the tropics, there’s a certain thrill that comes with packing a bag and getting out of town for a bit. Exciting as it is, though, there are a few aspects of travel that we’d rather do without — and we’re not just talking about long check-in lines, flight delays, and $7 bottles of water at the airport.
Any beauty aficionado can attest to the challenge of picking from your trusty arsenal of skincare and hair-care products that you’ve tailored to your wants and needs. You’ve likely spent years building and curating your beauty routine. So, when faced with TSA’s confining nothing-greater-than-3.4-ounces size restriction, it can often feel like leaving your beloved toiletries behind is the only real option (after all, who wants to try squeezing serums and toners into travel-friendly bottles only to end up sacrificing lots of expensive product?).
Luckily for the current and future globe-trotters among us, though, more beauty brands are offering travel-size versions of their best-selling skincare, hair care, and makeup than ever before — and their adorably miniature sizes are sure to bring a smile to your face. From individually packaged facial wipes and mini serums to petite perfumes and compact hair dryers, here are the travel-friendly beauty products we can’t go anywhere without.
The best travel-size cleanser: Youth to the People Superfood Cleanser
Between the free-flying germs at the airport and the harsh air quality during your flight, traveling can expose skin to some seriously concerning dirt and grime, so it’s important to have a cleanser you can trust to help restore purity and cleanliness when you finally arrive. The consistently popular Superfood Cleanser from industry-favorite brand Youth to the People harnesses the antioxidant powers of kale, spinach, and green tea to prevent buildup in pores and balance your skin’s pH without drying or stripping.
The best travel-size toner: Glow Recipe Mini Watermelon Glow PHA + BHA Pore-Tight Toner
Toner can be a game-changing step in any skincare routine, and going on vacation is hardly a reason to skip it. Fortunately, with this mini version of Glow Recipe’s best-selling Watermelon Glow Toner, you won’t have to. The PHA and BHA-infused lightweight toner is rich with watermelon extract to hydrate and soothe skin while delivering essential vitamins and amino acids, and it is suitable for any skin type.
The best travel-size serum: Murad Mini Vitamin C Glycolic Brightening Serum
Vitamin C is a hugely important ingredient to incorporate into your routine, as it protects skin from harmful toxins and free radicals, helps heal blemishes, and reduces hyperpigmentation and dark spots. This serum from Murad is not only rich with vitamin C, but it’s also formulated with glycolic acid to help the antioxidants penetrate more deeply and phyto luminescent extract to visibly illuminate the skin.
The best travel-size moisturizer: Augustinus Bader Mini The Rich Cream with TFC8 Face Moisturizer
In recent years, one moisturizer has risen through the ranks of the skincare world more than any other, becoming an instant favorite of celebrities and beauty insiders everywhere: Augustinus Bader. The super-luxe face cream is intensely hydrating and is powered by the brand’s proprietary TFC8, which has been clinically shown to reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and hyperpigmentation. Grab this mini version to help combat the drying effects of flying and keep your skin working overtime, even when you’re on vacation.
The best travel-size face oil: The Feelist Most Wanted Radiant Facial Oil
Although the moisturizer versus facial oil debate is alive and well, we know that the decision between the two really does come down to personal preference. With that in mind, you should have a travel-friendly facial oil at the ready, and the Feelist’s CBD-infused Most Wanted oil is just that. The best-selling oil is deeply hydrating and helps fight blemishes while calming redness and inflammation to leave you with the best glow of your life.
The best travel-size face mask: onå New York Airplane Mode Intense Hydration Gel Mask
Traveling can dry out skin like almost nothing else, and sometimes it takes more than just your go-to moisturizer to replenish its hydration, which is why the Intense Hydration Gel Mask from onå New York is such a savior. With hyaluronic acid, beta-glucan, and camellia japonica, the sheet mask restores the skin’s moisture barrier and prevents dehydration while enhancing skin elasticity to deliver a visibly plumped and energized complexion.
The best travel-size sunscreen: Supergoop! Unseen Sunscreen SPF 40
Whether you’re spending a week on the beach or heading to the snow, any dermatologist will tell you that the most important thing to have in your suitcase is sunscreen. This adorable mini from cult-favorite sun-care brand Supergoop! offers the beloved invisible and weightless sunscreen with SPF 40 protection in a travel-friendly size, and it’s a can’t-miss for your next trip.
The best travel-size makeup remover: Then I Met You Cleansing Balm
Instead of using wasteful makeup wipes, consider using a cleansing balm. There’s a reason that this luxurious balm from Then I Met You has won so many awards. The star of this show, seaberry oil, is an antioxidant and fatty acid that softens skin and gives this balm its beautiful color. Also formulated with grapeseed oil, olive oil, and vitamin E, Then I Met You Cleansing Balm will undoubtedly leave your skin feeling nourished and radiant.
The best travel-size hair-care set: Oribe #OribeObsessed Set
Many folks skip hair care when packing for a trip, instead settling for whatever generic shampoo and conditioner is at their hotel shower, but your locks shouldn’t have to suffer just because you’re on the road. Instead, reach for the #OribeObsessed Set, which features the brand’s best-selling Gold Lust Repair and Restore Shampoo and Conditioner to help heal damaged hair and protect it from future damage and the Dry Texturizing Spray to build volume and texture while absorbing oil at the source.
The best travel-size dry shampoo: OUAI Mini Super Dry Shampoo
There are some occasions when washing your hair simply isn’t an option — and then there are others when it is an option but not one that you’re choosing to take. For those times, a good dry shampoo is an absolute must, and this super-absorbent dry shampoo from OUAI is a surefire way to revive hair’s volume and body while leaving it clean and healthy. No one will ever know you didn’t just come straight from a blowout!
The best travel-size hair dryer: GHD Flight Travel Hair Dryer
Much like shampoo and conditioner, a hair dryer is often something people think to pack when traveling, instead of opting to save space and leave their hair at the mercy of a subpar hotel hair dryer. But with GHD’s Flight Travel Hair Dryer, you don’t have to sacrifice your hair’s health or valuable real estate in your suitcase. The compact hair dryer is as powerful as it is portable and features an array of speed and temperature settings, dual voltage, and a removable nozzle, and it folds up nicely to fit amongst all your other things.
The best travel-size hairbrush: Drybar Lil’ Lemon Drop Daily Detangler
A hairbrush is something you definitely can’t (and shouldn’t) live without, but the one you use at home will likely take up far more space in your suitcase than it really needs to, which is why we love Drybar’s Lil’ Lemon Drop Daily Detangler. The mini brush is suitable for all hair types and uses flexible bristles to detangle wet or dry hair with ease, and it’s small enough to fit in even your smallest purses.
The best travel-size deodorant: Megababe Rosy Pits Mini
There’s a lot of talk about natural deodorants, but if we’re honest with ourselves, we know that none of them seems to do the trick — that is, until Megababe’s Rosy Pits. Instead of using aluminum to block sweat ducts from producing sweat, the antiperspirant helps prevent odor-causing bacteria from forming on the skin without the use of baking soda, alcohol, or parabens. The deodorant goes on smooth and clear and keeps your underarms smelling of roses all day long, and now you can grab the mini size to take it with you on all your travels, near and far.
The best travel-size perfume: Diptyque Do Son Travel Spray
Perfume is often left behind when we travel because of the space it takes up in a bag and its non-essential nature, but really, who wouldn’t want to smell their best when on vacation? For the best of both worlds, try the Do Son Travel Spray from beloved fragrance brand Diptyque. The portable bottle is the ideal travel companion, thanks to its compact size and ability to be refilled with any classic Diptyque perfume. But it’s also a traveler itself, with a design that’s inspired by the vintage noticeboards that once appeared in airports and train stations around the world, and you can even customize the bottle with your own name, word, or phrase.

The 27 Travel Skincare Products You Need In Your Carry-On
As difficult as it is to whittle down your wardrobe to a few key outfits for holiday travel, most beauty enthusiasts would agree it’s even harder to settle on a travel-friendly skincare routine. Besides the whole 3.4-ounce size limit thing, there’s also the issue of space. I mean, you could theoretically pack your usual line up of cleansers, serums, and moisturizers into a separate checked suitcase, but if your vanity looks anything like mine, even that would be a struggle (not to mention a hassle). Enter the latest TSA-approved travel skincare products , which are just as easy to pack as they are effective.
To determine your ideal travel routine, experts say you should consider where you’ll be going and how long you’ll be gone. “For cooler climates in general, I would recommend seeking out treatments with peptides,” Dr. Jennifer Vickers, a dermatologist at Sanova Dermatology, tells The Zoe Report; since cold, dry air can strip moisture from your skin. Stash a few of Peach & Lily’s ceramide-spiked Original Glow Sheet Masks in your bag to rehydrate on-the-go. “I like products with hyaluronic acid to really maximize hydration,” she adds, like Peter Thomas Roth’s mini Water Drench Hyaluronic Cloud Cream . Destined for a humid or tropical getaway? “A gel cream may be more favorable,” Dr. Vickers tells us — the travel-size Squalane and Probiotic Gel Cream in Biossance’s trial set is ideal. No matter where you’re going — snowy or sunny — Dr. Vickers maintains that daily SPF is a must .

Just because it’s in a tiny bottle doesn’t mean it deserves a coveted spot in your carry on, though — an efficient travel routine requires downsizing in terms of both fluid ounces and skincare steps. If you’ll only be out of town for a few days, ask yourself if you truly need to pack your favorite exfoliating scrub or once-a-week mask (no shame if the answer is yes). You may also want to invest in multitasking products that fill more than one role. Peach & Lily’s Lazy Day All-in-One Moisture Pads act as a toner, essence, and moisturizer all in one; and Kopari Coconut Melt Mini can be used as an oil cleanser, lip balm, overnight cream, and even a hair mask.
Don’t forget to slip a few hydrating essentials into your purse for the plane. The recycled cabin air you’re exposed to in flight has about half the humidity level that your skin is used to, Melissa Kanchanapoomi Levin, a clinical instructor in dermatology at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, told Allure . In other words, skin can become dehydrated pretty quickly, leading to dry patches, dullness, and breakouts. To counteract this effect, why not skip the makeup and apply a hydrating face mask while en route? In-flight masking doesn’t have to be messy or awkward as it sounds — just slather on a thick layer of Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask , which moisturizes skin with natural oils and ceramides, and doesn’t need to be rinsed off.
When deciding what to pack, you might as well mix practicality with pleasure. It can’t be ignored that “travel size” is interchangeable with “trial size” these days — so travel is the perfect excuse to experiment with the pricier products you’ve been considering. Cult-favorite Vintner’s Daughter Active Botanical Serum costs upwards of $200 for a full bottle, but the travel size sample is a mere $65 — who could resist?

25 Travel-Size Skin-Care Products That Will Make You Wanna Go Somewhere
By Sarah Jacoby
Some people may see needing to pack mini versions of their skin-care products as a challenge. But, for me, it’s an opportunity.
Obviously travel sized skin-care products come with the perks of helping you maintain a solid skin-care regimen while you’re away from your usual products, whether that’s because you’re using smaller versions of the products you already use or because you’re mixing things up while you’re away.
But not only are mini- and travel-sized products great for taking on trips, keeping at your desk, or stashing in a workout bag , they’re also a really nice way to try a product you’ve had your eye on before you invest in a full-sized version. That way you can decide if you like the feel, the scent, and what it does (or doesn’t do) for your skin before spending a little more money.
As someone with sensitive skin and rosacea , I need to be extra careful about what I put on my skin, and mini products give me enough of a chance to get acquainted with a cleanser, serum, or moisturizer without spending a fortune on a fancy new product that may very well irritate my face.
One other excellent perk of shopping for travel sized products is that they often come in sets of things that are meant to work together, like two complementary serums or a cleanser paired with a moisturizer. So, even if you’re just interested in one product, you may find that the combination of everything in the set works especially well.
And you might also be surprised at how long the minis last you. I often find that being forced to use less of the product on my face at a time usually makes me realize how wasteful I can be when I have the luxury of a full-sized product at my disposal.
Here we’ve collected a bunch of our favorite products—including classic drugstore finds and luxury options—in travel-friendly sizes, sample packs, and kits. That way you can treat your skin right no matter where life leads you.

The 18 Best Travel-Friendly Beauty Products

This creamy gel cleanser is kind to sensitive skin, which is ideal for days when you spend too much time in the sun and salt water.
Tweezerman Mini Slant Tweezer
You can't stop a stray hair or two from popping up during your vacation, but these adorable mini tweezers make hotel-room grooming easy.
Neutrogena Pure & Free Baby Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 60+
Slick this sunscreen on your face and ears straight from the tube. The hypoallergenic formula won't clog your pores or sting sensitive eyes.
Burt's Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream
Even if you skip a manicure, this velvety salve keeps cuticles soft and nails looking neat.
By Angela Trakoshis
By Sarah Han
By Annie Blay
Shiseido Perfecting Stick Concealer
You can swipe this creamy compact concealer on right out of the tube and blend it in easily with your finger, so there's no need to pack a brush.
Karuna Hydrating+ Face Mask
Whether you're bold enough to go the wear-on-the-plane -and-scare-your-fellow-passengers route or would rather wait until you hit the hotel room, this ultra-moisturizing sheet mask will soothe and revive dull, dry, plane-air-ravaged skin.
Elizabeth and James Nirvana Black Solid Perfume Compact
Even if you love your signature scent, we're guessing you're not super into the idea of it spilling all over the contents of your suitcase. That's where this compact comes in: It houses a mirror and a balmlike solid vanilla-violet-and-sandalwood fragrance that's completely drip-proof.
Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray
The company took its OG salt spray for creating perfect beachy waves and put it in tiny 1.7-ounce bottles to make it both adorable and conveniently portable.
Lavanila the Healthy Deodorant in Pure Vanilla Mini
Meet the rare natural, aluminum-free deodorant that actually works—in fact, it's so good, we've given it a Best of Beauty Award. This compact version packs all the same wetness- and odor-fighting power in a less bulky package.
Su:m37 Miracle Rose Cleansing Stick
A solid cleansing balm in stick form that a) won't leak or drip and b) couldn't be easier to use. This antioxidant-packed pick, made by innovative Korean skin-care brand Su:m37, is a favorite of Soko Glam founder Charlotte Cho. Just twist the dial at the bottom (like you would a Chapstick), then massage it into your skin and rinse or wipe off. It's so simple, you could even do it on an airplane.
The Honest Company Hand Sanitizer Spray
Most hand sanitizers smell like obscenely cheap vodka. These spritz-on ones smell like lemongrass, lavender, and oranges. And if that weren't enough of a minor miracle, they're also way less drying than most other formulas we've tried, thanks to a dose of aloe and glycerin.
La Prairie Anti-Aging Eye and Lip Perfection á Porter
On-the-go skin care doesn't get much more luxurious than this eye and lip duo. It combines a creamy, superthick—but not at all sticky—lip balm that melts into lips with a lightweight yet quenching eye cream, packaged together in one mirrored compact. Both formulas are gentle, so they won't further agitate skin that's been through a lot (say, a transatlantic journey).
EOS Every Day Hand Lotion
The slim, rounded tube can squeeze into even the tiniest pocket of your carry-on. Plus, it's lightweight and nongreasy, so it soaks in in seconds, leaving a pleasant scent and softness in its wake.
MoRoCcanoil Dry Shampoo
Dry shampoo is a travel must: Who wants to waste precious vacation time washing and styling her hair? The formula in this 1.7-ounce can smells heavenly, degreases strands, and comes in two different tints, so there's none of that chalky cast other versions can leave.
Laneige BB Cushion
We've all seen that "Oh, no! My nudes leaked!" meme that's a photo of a drippy foundation bottle—and for anyone who's ever had a makeup-bag travel mishap, it's all too real. This compact contains a cushion soaked with a thin BB cream that is about as leakproof as it gets. It also hides blemishes, evens skin tone, hydrates, and offers sun protection.
Grown Alchemist Hydra-Mist+ Desert Lime & Amino-Peptide
Aerosols can sometimes do weird things in pressurized airplane cabins. And so can your skin. This non-aerosol mist is spiked with hyaluronic acid, pomegranate, and bilberry-leaf extracts to calm inflammation, as well as peptides and antioxidants to protect and bolster skin during even the longest flights.
Coola 4-Piece Organic Suncare Travel Set
This kit is basically a dermatologist's dream. It contains every kind of sunscreen you could possibly need: a spray-on natural one that smells like coconuts, a smaller bring-with-you-to-the-beach lotion, and a lip balm—all with SPF 30. There's also a tube of aloe-laced after-sun moisturizer to help rehab skin in case you (somehow) miss a spot.
Fresh Seaberry Restorative Body Cream
In case we haven't made it clear: Traveling makes your skin really freakin' dry. And that doesn't just mean your face. This buttery, paraben -free 2.2-ounce cream helps it bounce back with a blend of four different omegas, plus seaberry oil and cranberry-seed oil.
9 essential skincare items for the savviest travelers
Update: Some offers mentioned below are no longer available. View the current offers here .
If you regularly spend time 35,000 feet in the air , you're likely no stranger to things you might encounter throughout your journey: Delayed flights, airport lounge food, HSBC jet bridges — and lest we forget about Hudson News.
Depending on who you are, though, one of the most overlooked rituals of the travel experience is a solid skincare routine.
We know we're not the first ones to tell you that airplane air is incredibly dehydrating, and can send your skin into a tailspin if you don't take care of it. Factor in potential climate changes, too, and you're really putting your skin through the ringer, even for just a quick weekend trip. Take even a fraction of the amount of time you spend picking out your carry-on bag or backpack , and we promise your skin will thank you.
Even the airlines are hopping on board the skincare bandwagon. United Airlines introduced Sunday Riley products to its amenity kits early last year, and airlines such as Japan Airlines fill amenity kits with face masks.
If you play your cards right, you can earn bonus points or miles on cash back on these travel necessities, too.
First things first: You'll want to use a credit card that's prime for online shopping. We rounded up our favorites here , and by using one of them, you'll start racking up valuable points and miles that you can use to fund your next trip. As far as your skincare purchases go, the Amex EveryDay® Preferred Credit Card from American Express , Bank of America® Customized Cash Rewards credit card and Chase Freedom Unlimited will be your best bets.
The information for the Amex EveryDay Preferred has been collected independently by The Points Guy. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.
New to TPG? Read our Beginner's Guide
That's only the tip of the iceberg, though.
Take advantage of online shopping portals , and you'll also be able to rack up miles with your favorite airline. This is in addition to the credit card points and miles you're getting on your aforementioned credit card — a little something we like to call "double dipping."
Popular skincare sites such as Sephora, Dermstore and Bluemercury are all available on popular shopping portals such as Delta , United and American . Word to the wise: Check these sites before you make any purchases to earn bonus points on items you'd buy anyway.
Speaking of Sephora, the beauty giant is currently hosting its annual Spring Savings Event . Depending on your Beauty Insider level (essentially elite status at Sephora), you can get anywhere between 10% and 20% off your purchase until April 27. Just be sure to use code "SPRINGSAVE" at checkout.
If you'd rather go the cash-back route, be sure to take advantage of sites like Rakuten or RebatesMe. Installing one of the plug-ins in your internet browser is an easy, quick way to save a few dollars here and there. Rakuten, for example, is offering 2% cash back at Sephora — a nice addition to the savings you're already getting at the retailer through the end of the month.
Just note that you can't use a shopping portal or a cash back site at the same time, so you'll want choose which one more closely fits your travel and financial goals.
Now that we have that, er, foundation , let's take a look at some of our tried-and-true travel skincare favorites.
- Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask
- Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe, Herbs and Rosewater
- Drunk Elephant Beste No. 9 Jelly Cleanser
- Glossier Balm Dotcom
Bioderma Sensibio H2O Soothing Micellar Cleansing Water
- Mei Apothecary Mini Jade Facial Roller
- NuFACE Mini Facial Toning Device
- Shiseido Pure Retinol Intensive Revitalizing Face Mask
- Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Extra Strength Daily Mini Peel
SUMMER FRIDAYS JET LAG MASK
Why we love it: Once you have the Summer Fridays Jet Lag mask, you'll never want to go anywhere without it. It naturally piqued our interest because it has the phrase "jet lag" in it, so we had to try out this Instagram-favorite for ourselves — and it definitely lives up to the hype. After just one use, your skin will have an unmistakable moisturized glow. Because you don't have to wash it off, it's especially great for travel. No need to bother your seatmate and run back and forth to the bathroom — just lather it on, sit back, relax and enjoy the flight (or a movie or two ).
To buy: It retails for $48 directly through Summer Fridays , but if you use the above strategies, you can get it cheaper elsewhere. For example, it also retails for $48 at Sephora , but you can get it for at least 10% off, depending on your status level, plus an additional 2% cash back on Rakuten. Bada bing, bada boom.
MARIO BADESCU FACIAL SPRAY WITH ALOE, HERBS AND ROSEWATER
Why we love it: Whether you're on a mileage run or halfway through a 13-hour flight and need a little refreshment, Mario Badescu's facial spray with aloe, herbs and rosewater will be a godsend. It will keep your skin feeling clean and dewy, and comes in handy to add an extra level of moisture when you need it most.
DRUNK ELEPHANT BESTE NO. 9 JELLY CLEANSER
Why we love it: Everyone raves about Drunk Elephant, and for good reason. Their jelly cleanser is refreshing and lightweight, and your skin will notice the difference even after just a few uses. After spending even a little bit of time in an airport and on the plane, you'll want to get as much grime off your face and you can. Drunk Elephant's Beste No. 9 Jelly Cleanser does the trick every time.

GLOSSIER BALM DOTCOM
Why we love it: This lip balm does everything, and that's because it's not just lip balm. Yes, it will easily hydrate your chapped lips, but it also works wonders on your skin. Think: cracked palms and dry elbows. You'll get your money out of it and then some. We'd recommend the original, fragrance-free flavor, but it also comes in a handful of others that might strike your fancy. Some other favorites are rose, birthday and mint.
To buy: You can buy Balm Dotcom directly through Glossier. A single balm is $12, but you can get a trio on sale for $30 (usually $36).
Why we love it: If you want your skin to have the best possible outcome on a plane, you'll want to keep things light and easy. Bioderma's micellar cleansing water should be a regular step in your routine, whether on the ground or in the air. It will get rid of any makeup, dirt or grease and leave your skin feeling squeaky clean.
To buy: The travel size (3.33 fluid ounces) is available on Amazon and Dermstore . If you shop at Dermstore, though, you can get an additional 15% off by signing up for emails, as well as 4% cash back through Rakuten.
MEI APOTHECARY MINI JADE FACIAL ROLLER
Why we love it: If you haven't used a jade roller yet, you're missing out. It's incredibly soothing and will take the puffiness out of your face (which, let's be real, we all need after a long-haul flight). We like this miniature roller from Mei Apothecary. It's small and compact, and does the same work as some of the pricier rollers you'll see on the market for half the price.
To buy : It sells for $12.99 directly from Mei Apothecary, but you can find it at Target for under $10.
Related: Why the Target debit REDcard makes sense to me during quarantine
NUFACE MINI FACIAL TONING DEVICE
Why we love it: There's no other way to say this: This thing is amazing. It uses microcurrent technology to contour and tighten your face in minutes. After sleeping with your face pressed against an airplane window, you'll love using this to smooth and soothe your jawline, forehead and cheeks. Vogue calls it a "desert island must-have" and once you use it, you'll understand why.
To buy: Such accolades don't come cheap. It retails for $199 on NuFACE'S website , but you can find it cheaper through Sephora . It's on sale there for $179, although it's out of stock at the moment. When it's back in stock, be sure to activate additional cash back on Rakuten. It's also available on SkinStore for $199, with 30% off by using the code "COUNTDOWN."
SHISEIDO PURE RETINOL INTENSIVE REVITALIZING FACE MASK
Why we love it: You can't go wrong with anything from Japanese skincare brand Shiseido, and this face mask is no exception. Bring brightness and color back to your dull skin either at the end of your long flight or when you first check in to your hotel. You'll be ready for a full day of sightseeing in no time.
To buy: A pack of four masks sells for $70 on Shiseido — and you can get 15% off by signing up for emails, as well as 2% cash back via Rakuten. It's also available on Nordstrom , Macy's and Bloomingdale's .
DR. DENNIS GROSS ALPHA BETA EXTRA STRENGTH DAILY PEEL MINI
Why we love it: Exfoliate all of the germs and gunk off your face faster than you can say, "passport, please" with these Dr. Dennis Gross peels. The salicylic acid will clear out your pores, and the lactic acid will help naturally encourage your cells grow back. Your face will thank you for these.
To buy: You can find the peels at Sephora for $17 — and get an even deeper discount right now, depending on what type of Beauty Insider you are.
Frequently Asked Questions
What should you look for when buying skincare for travel.
When buying skincare products you want to travel with, be sure to buy things that are under 3.4 fluid ounces so they fit in your carry-on bag and stay TSA-compliant. Since you're likely going to be away from your usual skincare routine, you'll want to make sure the products are easy and functional and aren't too time-consuming or messy to use. Above all, make sure the products keep your skin feeling fresh, clean and hydrated. No matter what, always test the products out first to make sure they work for your skin.

Be sure to take advantage of cash back offers, and use a credit card that earns bonus points or extra cash back on your purchases, too.

Holidays are glorious; packing for them, less so. How to distil your extensive skincare routine into a not comically large wash bag, or worse still into a hand-luggage friendly 20cm bag, without the faff of decanting?
These skincare sets from some of our absolute favourite brands contain standout products in mini sizes, and most are comprehensive sets so you won’t even have to think about what you need.
For those with more specific concerns, such as sun damage or dehydrating aeroplane cabins, there are smaller sets with targeted products, too.
- 8 best bikini brands for bigger busts that deliver on fit and style
- 10 best textured hair sprays for post-beach volume without the dryness
- 10 best facial sunscreens that will protect your skin all year round
- 10 best body sunscreens for SPF and UV protection that lasts
Even if you’re not jetting off this year, we’d recommend many of these sets, such as Tata Harper’s or Drunk Elephant’s, as a more affordable way to get acquainted with a new brand.
All of these contain products that are already firm favourites of ours, and we’ve discovered a few new ones too.
You can trust our independent reviews. We may earn commission from some of the retailers, but we never allow this to influence selections, which are formed from real-world testing and expert advice. This revenue helps to fund journalism across The Independent .
REN Clean Getaway: £29.75, John Lewis & Partners
Clean getaway is our go-to for a relaxing weekend in the country or a luxury hotel break: it’s the closest thing you’ll get to a spa experience in travel-size minis. The products are all focused on gentle, soothing results, with skincare (cleanser, moisturiser and mask) from REN’s Evercalm range, its & Now To Sleep pillow spray to encourage a good night’s kip, and the energising kelp and magnesium body wash and lotion for your shower come morning.
Drunk Elephant The Littles: £71, Cult Beauty
We’d recommend buying this one even if you’re not planning to leave the house this summer; it’s a brilliant way to discover the best of cult-favourite US brand Drunk Elephant, which has won us over with its no-nasties, effective products and colourful packaging. We’d be hard-pushed to choose our favourites, but B-Hydra intensive hydration serum and C-Firma day cream are both up there.
Patchology On The Fly: £18, Space NK
Patchology’s kit goes one step beyond travel-friendly minis of your usual products with its set of masks specifically designed to ward off parched post-flight skin. With two soothing, moisturising sheet masks (illuminate and hydrate) and two patch masks (eye and lip), there’s everything you need for some serious damage control.
Elemis The Luxury Travel Collection: £65, Elemis
There’s not even any packing required with this set from Elemis, which comes housed in a beautiful wash bag designed by fashion illustrator Megan Morrison. Inside you’ll find seven much-loved products plus a face cloth for proper cleansing. Our favourites are the pro-collagen marine cream and cleansing balm, and the frangipani monoi body cream, all of which we regularly use in full-size too.
Murad Travel Light Travel Bright: £25, Feel Unique
You couldn’t find a much better companion for a sunny break. Murad’s travel light kit contains minis of its Essential-C day moisture SPF 30 – which is hydrating, rich in antioxidants (to protect skin from environmental aggressors) and has all-important sun protection – and its age-spot correcting serum to help improve areas where the damage has already been done.
Omorovicza Mix and Match Travel: From £26, Omorovicza
For a personalised approach, Hungarian luxury skincare brand Omorovicza allows you to choose three travel-size products to suit you (the price varies depending on what you pick). Our dream selection features all our favourites: thermal cleansing balm, copper peel and illuminating moisturiser.
Balance Me Hydrated Skin Set: £15, Balance Me
This, from the natural beauty brand, is a no-fuss solution to both packing and skincare. Its pared-down combination of face wash, eye cream, moisturiser and a refreshing face mist is all you’ll need for a carefree holiday, no thinking required.
Tata Harper Daily Essentials: £65, Cult Beauty
Another great choice to discover the best of a cult US brand, the Daily Essentials set includes some of our Tata favourites, such as the rejuvenating serum and resurfacing mask, all in the same gorgeous, green frosted glass packaging you get with full-size. “Queen of Green”, Tata Harper’s 100 per cent natural and organic line, is much-loved by beauty editors.
Sunday Riley Flash Fix Kit: £28, Cult Beauty
A power pairing of cult products, this duo is all about exfoliating and brightening your skin. Ceramic slip cleanser uses three kinds of clay (of the kind often seen in purifying masks) to draw out excess oil and grime, and has a silky gel texture. Follow it up with exfoliating serum good genes, which uses glycolic acid to dissolve dead skin cells and revive dull skin.
Kate Somerville Face the Glow: £56, Space NK
This radiance-boosting trio would be just as good for someone needing a quick turnaround pre-party season as for getting a summer holiday glow. Containing three products from A-list facialist Kate Somerville’s ExfoliKate range – the face wash, quick wash-off exfoliating treatment and AHA moisturiser – it gives soft, bright skin.
The verdict: Travel-sized skincare sets
REN’s Clean Getaway is our Best Buy as it contains all the essentials and a little bit of luxury too. For something that is a great introduction to a brand too, we’d pick Elemis’s Travel Collection or Drunk Elephant’s The Littles .

Applying a face moisturizer daily is one of the number one keys to healthy, glowing skin no matter what the season, your age, or skin type. Experts say that hydrating is crucial for keeping skin youthful and healthy, even if you don’t have dry skin . “Moisturizing protects the skin barrier," explains Dendy Engelman, M.D. , a dermatologist in New York City. T he healthier your barrier, the better your skin’s defense against inflammation and damage , which can protect skin from signs of dehydration, irritation, redness , and even hyperpigmentation , fine lines, and wrinkles over time.
But just because a product is called a moisturizer doesn't mean it will be effective at hydrating skin. So Good Housekeeping Institute Beauty Lab scientists are constantly putting face moisturizer formulas to the test, using both Lab instruments and consumer tester feedback to determine which really work. In the GH Beauty Lab's most recent day cream test, scientists tallied 4,434 Lab data points to find the best face moisturizers you can buy for all skin types, including combination skin , sensitive skin , oily skin and dry skin , and for all ages, whether you're looking for an anti-aging formula or one for glowing skin .
Here, read all about the best face moisturizers and creams , as tested by the GH Beauty Lab, backed by the Good Housekeeping Seal or recommended by dermatologists:

3. Neutrogena Hydro Boost Primer and Serum
Have you ever spontaneously bought a new primer or foundation and then been disappointed when you used them? Maybe they seemed to react to each other? I know I’ve had this happen. That’s because primers and foundations need to be matched. The ingredients in some gel-based foundations and mattifying formulas may flake on top of certain smoothing primers. Always test your picks together before packing your cosmetic bag for a trip.
Primer can lay down a great base for the best looking makeup however make sure you’re matching your primer to the climate as well. Using a putty-type or gripping primer in a hot destination can cause it to settle into pores and imperfections giving your skin the texture of an orange peel (yuck). We’ll give out two Bests in this category – one for hot climates and one for chillier vacays.
Why Neutrogena Hydro Boost is the Best Primer for Cold Weather
- Pulls double duty as a primer and a serum, saving room in your makeup bag
- Dropper with vial top seals tightly to prevent spills in transit
- Contains hyaluronic acid which moisturizes and gives a light glow
- Perfect for under makeup or on days you want to look healthy, dewy and fresh without makeup
4. e.l.f. Tone Adjusting Primer
This product glides on so smoothly and feels so luxurious that you would never guess that it’s a $10 bargain buy. It’s ideal for neutralizing redness and masking skin imperfections. When visiting a humid climate it’s pretty common to have minor skin flair ups or redness. The green tones will make you picture perfect despite what the sun is attempting to do to you!
Why e.l.f. Tone Adjusting Primer is the Best Primer for Hot Climates
- Good for both dry and oily skin
- Can be used as a base with no makeup on top just to even redness
- A little goes a long way! One pump is enough.
- e.l.f. as a brand has a fair trade certified factory, produces vegan products and is certified cruelty-free
- Slightly smaller travel size is available but we love that the larger size is also under 3.4 oz
5. Bonus: Too Faced Shadow Insurance Primer
While you don’t need an eyelid primer, it is a good idea if you’ll be wearing eye shadow. This primer is the superglue of the makeup world. It essentially coats your eyelid so that shadow sticks to it and doesn’t move. Looking for a version with no shimmer? This Too Faced option has a natural finish but is applied with a wand.
Why Too Faced Shadow Insurance Eye Shadow Primer is the Best Primer for Times You Might Cry
- Locks down your eye shadow – trust me it isn’t going anywhere
- A must if your plans include shimmery eyeshadow- you don’t want glitter in your eyeball
- Expecting a proposal? Heading to a big emotional event? Or going to be in the cold with watery eyes? This one step will save your eye makeup appearance in photos.
- Don’t want to do full eye makeup? Use a bit by itself, it will give lids a neutral shimmer
- Fantastic for mature or oily skin to keep shadows from settling into creases in an obvious way
6. Ecotools Retractable Makeup Brush and Eye Enhancing Set
When traveling there are two “categories” of makeup brushes that I bring with me. I take a shadow brush and angled brush to do eye shadow and liner. I also carry a large fluffy brush for powder and blush. Over the years I’ve discovered that finding the perfect travel version of each in the same set is not likely. Finding the best one individually though? Easy. These brushes work well with a huge variety of makeup. Just be sure to clean them both regularly.
Why These Two Ecotools are the Perfect Travel Makeup Brush Combo
- Soft cruelty-free bristles on the retractable makeup brush
- Retractable bristles with a cover ensure that the brush stays intact and clean during travel
- Eye enhancing set comes with two brushes that are perfect for lining and shadow
- Having two lets you bring one and save one as a backup for later
- Bristles stay in place and don’t shed on all brushes
7. RunnerUp: 4-in-1 Physicians Formula Makeup Brush
If you want one brush that does it all the 4-in-1 Physicians Formula Makeup Brush is a great pick. Personally, I like having a full handle to hold onto but this brush is one I’ll occasionally make an exception for when space is tight.
Why Physicians Formula 4-in-1 Makeup Brush is our RunnerUp
- The softest synthetic bristles ever that won’t fall out
- Easy screw-on, screw-off sections last longer than ones that snap on and off
- Great price point
- Brushes don’t have covers so grab a silicone container to carry it in, especially if it will be in your purse
8. Catrice HD Liquid Coverage Foundation
Surely I’m not the only one who seeks out makeup produced in countries with more stringent regulations than the US? This Italian-made liquid foundation adheres to EU cosmetic regulations, ensuring that more than 1,500 banned ingredients aren’t utilized. By contrast, the US only bans 11 ingredients!
Why Catrice HD Liquid Coverage is A Favorite for Travel
- Vial and dropper screws on tight preventing leaking during adventures

9. Laura Geller Baked Balance-n-Brighten Powder Foundation
Powder foundation can be a great option for travel. You don’t have to fit it into your liquids bag if you aren’t checking luggage and you don’t need to worry about the item oozing out after air pressure impacts it. This pigmented mineral-based powder allows you to build to the level of coverage that you desire.
Why Laura Geller Baked Balance-n-Brighten is Our RunnerUp Foundation
- Apply with different brushes to get different coverage levels ( kabuki for light, dense for more coverage)
- Light, silky feel for a no-makeup makeup look
- Runs a bit darker in almost every shade we’ve seen so order a shade lighter than your normal foundation
- Fantastic for people who don’t want to pack concealer and are looking for a color balancing foundation
Makeup Tip: Compacts can be messy if they get banged around during travel breaking the powder. Put a foam applicator (or several cotton rounds ) between the cover and the powder to fill the space and prevent breakage. You can also put them into small squeeze purses to protect them more. We love these ones , which are also great for earbuds and jewelry.
10. Mally Beauty Plush Pen Brightening Concealer Stick
Concealer is one of those makeup items that either makes or breaks your look. There are so many cheap concealers out there that actually impact your final look negatively! If you’re going to use concealer spend a little more for a quality formula. It will pay off in the long run.
Why Mally Beauty Brightening Concealer Stick is the Best Travel Concealer
- Sponge-like applicator tip won’t tug on delicate under eye area like a wand applicator

If your skin tone veers closer to neutral or cool, the Tarte Creaseless Undereye Concealer is a better choice. The formula changed in the last couple of years and is thicker. You don’t need much but I’d recommend dabbing it on your finger to swipe on versus using the applicator.

In travel, anything that saves space or eliminates another item is a win for us. Covergirl has been around forever. For many of us, it might even be the first brand we ever used. Their Perfect Point Plus eyeliner comes with a smudge stick on one end for those smoky eye looks on the go!
Why We Also Love Covergirl Perfect Point Plus Eyeliner
- Self-sharpening design eliminates the need to pack an eyeliner pencil sharpener
- Five color options
- Blendable formula can create both precise and smoky looks
- Super easy to apply
19. Revlon Illuminance Creme Eye Shadow Palette
Eye shadow is always one of the trickier travel makeup items, especially if you’re a traveler who loves variety. If you’ve got eye shadow palettes at home where you use only one or two colors, the space they take up can seem like a waste. In addition, the makeup cases on traditional palettes can bust open and leave a mess. Cream eye shadow can be a great choice for travel!
Why We Love Revlon Illuminance Creme Eye Shadow
- Pocket-sized and easy to pack
- Ophthalmologist-tested and good for sensitive eyes and skin
- Eight great color options including shimmer, neutral and bold
- Buildable pigmented shades- just add more layers for more saturated results
- All palettes contain a mirror
20. RunnerUp: Sephora Golden Hour Eye Shadow Palette
Sephora palettes can be a great travel option. They’re constantly putting out new color options and themed palettes. One of the other great things is that they aren’t hard plastics they’re less prone to shatter and leave you with a powdery mess. You can pop them into a ziplock bag for safekeeping.
Why We Love Sephora Eye Shadow Palettes
- Great mix of matte, shimmer and metallic shadows in one palette
- Perfect size for travel
- 6 shades to choose from
- Palette slides in and out of heavy cardboard case

21. Rimmel Stay Glossy Lip Gloss
As a huge fan of lip gloss, I’ve tried hundreds over the years. While I prefer a tube of lip oil in my daily life, they aren’t ideal for travel. Tubes pressurize on flights and when you open them they start uncontrollably oozing. It’s not a headache you want to deal with. Wanded lip glosses are great for travel and this Rimmel one is the best of the bunch.
Why Rimmel Stay Glossy is the Best Travel Lip Gloss
- Wide range of color choices that look good on many skin tones
- Stays on for 6 hours with no touch-ups
- The wet look is great for when you want to give the impression that you did your makeup without wearing a full face
- When choosing a color, assume it’s slightly lighter than pictured
22. NYX Professional Butter Gloss in Sugar Glass
If you’re looking for the perfect clear gloss this is it! Most of us have used NYX for years. With its affordable price point, you can keep one in every cosmetic case and makeup bag you have so you’re always ready for your next trip.
Why NYX Professional Butter Gloss is the Best Clear Lip Gloss
- Smooth formula that isn’t sticky
- Cruelty-free company
- Super light scent and no harsh taste if you accidentally lick your lips
- Sheer colors are also available
23. Aquaphor Lip Repair Lip Balm
Yes, we’ve got lip gloss and lip balm on the packing list! Did you know your lips can sunburn? Whether you’re in a hot climate or a cold one, sore lips are never fun on a vacation! We swear by Aquaphor for quick relief.
Why Aquaphor Lip Repair is a Must-Have for Travelers
- Seals in moisture and provides long-lasting relief
- Slanted tip provides easy application
- #1 dermatologist recommended lip brand
24. Beauty Bakerie Flour Setting Powder
Y’all I didn’t even have to think about what my favorite setting powder was. It is Beauty Bakerie Flour powder hands down. Their translucent powder sits on top of a made-up face locking all of your hard work in like nothing else I’ve found. It’s smooth and works every time. You only need a little bit so splurge!
Why Beauty Bakerie Flour is the Best Setting Powder
- Lightweight and super smooth
- Adorable themed packaging
- Matte finish kicks your look up a notch
- Vegan paraben-free ingredients
- Wide range of powders available to match all skin tones
- Black-owned business
25. Skindavia- The Makeup Finishing Spray 16+ Hour Setting Spray
Setting spray is a makeup must-have for me. Honestly, I don’t know how I lived for so long without it. My first exposure to it was when it came in a Beauty Bakerie mystery box I ordered. Living in Texas the humidity would melt my face off on some days. Not when I locked it all in with setting spray though! Unfortunately, they discontinued theirs so I’ve had to test out other brands to find a replacement.
The best setting sprays use an even fine mist. You don’t want one wet spot on a cheek and no spray on your forehead. A lot of travel sizes have pump sprayers vs pressurized so be sure to “practice” before your trip.
Why Skindavia Makeup Finishing Spray is the Best Travel Setting Spray
- Used by makeup artists to lock in looks for long days and nights
- Great for all climates – moisturizing helps on ski trips and oil control helps with hot and humid spots
- Doesn’t settle into wrinkles and imperfections like some setting sprays
- Convenient travel size
Makeup Tip: Tropical getaway in a super humid climate? Spray after applying your foundation, concealer and contouring. Let it dry. Complete the rest of your makeup and spray it again. It will keep your makeup in place all day and night!
26. Neutrogena Makeup Remover Towelettes
An important part of a makeup routine is removing your makeup at the end of the day. However, makeup-removing wipes are usually packaged in a way that is anything but travel-friendly. They are bulky, have flaps that don’t actually reseal and sometimes leak liquid. For quick trips where you only need three or four wipes, bringing a big full-size pack seems like overkill. These individually packaged wipes are perfect to keep on hand for trips as they come up.
Why Neutrogena Makeup Remover Towelettes are Perfect for Travel
- Individual packages make it easy to pack only what you need for the trip, saving space
- Wipes remove even waterproof and water-resistant makeup
- Ophthalmologist, dermatologist and allergist tested
- Compostable
- Full-sized wipe
27. RunnerUp: Juno & Co Exfoliating Face Wash
If you have never tried a powder-to-foam cleanser as a part of your skincare product routine, you’ve been missing out! The first time I saw a powder-to-foam product was when one showed up in a subscription box. You shake a little powder into your hand, add some water and lather it into a creamy foam. It’s perfect for travel. You can dose out a little bit into travel containers based on how long you’ll be gone.
Why Juno & Co Exfoliating Face Wash is the RunnerUp Makeup Remover
- Removes makeup, cleanses and exfoliates at the same time
- Hypoallergenic and great for sensitive skin
- Leaves skin feeling clean and fresh
- Great for travel since it doesn’t have to go in your toiletry bag of liquid products
28. Majestic Bombay Fine Point & Slant Tweezer Set
Tweezers are a must-have for any trip. Whether you need to tame some eyebrows or pull out a splinter, they’re good to have with you. You may think that all tweezers are created equal, but they’re not. A lot of the generic drugstore ones don’t get the best grip on hair. We have a favorite set that locks onto any hair they find.
Why Majestic Bombay is our Favorite Tweezer Set
- Set comes with slant tweezers and point tweezers
- One of the best pair of point tweezers we’ve found, super accurate
- Fun bright colors available

Few modern sunscreen brands are as fun, innovative, and eye-catching as Supergoop!, and the brand's Triple Prep Weightless Multitasking Moisturizer is no exception. It's rich and thick, yet absorbs quickly. Plus, it contains ectoin, an antioxidant that protects your skin from the blue light emanating from your computer or phone. With both broad-spectrum protection against UVA and UVB rays, this moisturizer keeps you safeguarded from all the elements.
One satisfied customer writes: "This product has become my favorite moisturizer to use as a primer before my makeup. It has the perfect texture to use prior to makeup application. It's heavy and thick but blends into your skin really nicely without leaving a white cast while still providing SPF.
Mineral sunscreens have made significant strides over the years, and many modern formulations leave zero white cast. This mineral tinted crème from MDSolarSciences is one of our favorite tinted moisturizers because it has a silky-smooth texture, a super-sheer tint, and a matte finish that's perfect for hot summer days when a foundation is out of the question. It's also water-resistant for up to 80 minutes, making it a great choice when you're swimming (or sweating) in the heat.
One satisfied customer writes: " This product is a great sunblock plus it goes on so smooth she doesn’t have that sunblock smell to it like most sunblocks. It makes your pores disappear as it goes on with a creamy matte finish it just makes your skin look and feel amazing. No filter on my freshly washed and sunblocked skin."
Kiehl's moisturizer-sunscreen hybrids are cult favorites, and for good reason. One of the brand's most popular options is the Ultra Facial Moisturizer SPF 30, which contains a trifecta of chemical sunscreen, hydrating ingredients (think squalene and glycerin), and protective antioxidants.
One satisfied customer writes: "I have been using this moisturizer for many years and have never found anything better. Full disclosure - I'm a dermatologist. Love everything about this. SPF 30 is a must and many moisturizers only have SPF 15 or 20; this feels good regardless of the humidity or dryness in the air so I can wear year round."
Chances are, you've heard of EltaMD because it's a hit among dermatologists and beauty editors alike. Unlike typical sunscreens, it's non-greasy, non-oily, has a barely-there scent, and boasts a silky, lotion-like texture. It's suitable for all skin types–even acne-prone, as it uses niacinamide, which helps your skin from producing too much oil and prevents excess sebum. One satisfied customer writes: " Listen! If you have acne-prone or oily skin, this is literally the best sunscreen out there! It's incredibly lightweight, my face hasn't burned once in the 8 years I've been using it, and it doesn't cause me any skin irritation or aggravate my acne."
With thousands of five-star ratings, there's no denying this moisturizer with SPF is a solid contender for your next skincare splurge. First and foremost, it smells delightful with a light rose scent. It's also formulated with antioxidants, plumping hyaluronic acid, and — as promised by its name — algae sourced from the Mediterranean coast that deliver both immediate and long-term benefits with regular use.
One satisfied customer writes: " I did not think I would love this as much as I do! The smell is divine, and it absorbs so well into the skin. The spf has no white cast and does not sting at all! I even put this around my eye lids. Luxury in a jar."
We get it: Finding a moisturizer that doesn't exacerbate already-oily skin can be challenging. But this one is a fan-favorite among countless people with oily skin because of its oil-free formulation and non-greasy, lightweight texture. But its consistency isn't the only reason its beloved by those with oily skin: it also contains niacinamide (aka vitamin B3), which helps minimize oiliness without drying out your skin.
One satisfied customer writes: "I have an oily face and was concerned it would enhance my oiliness, however it didn’t. It goes on very dry but smooth, but still moisturizing. It also makes my makeup last longer! Worth every penny!"
CeraVe Facial Moisturizing Lotion may look unassuming, but its formula has garnered a devoted following over time. As its name suggests, all CeraVe products boast ceramides essential for strengthening your skin barrier, shielding it from irritants, and keeping it moisturized. It also contains oil-regulating niacinamide and hydrating hyaluronic acid, making it a dependable option that doesn't break the bank.
One satisfied customer writes: "This is my go to face SPF lotion. I have been using it for years all year round. It is a great price. It does not feel sticky and adds a nice glow to your face. It is easy to rub in and does not leave a residue on your face. I have never burned from using this product."
Hyaluronic acid is the ingredient if you're looking to subtly plump skin and diminish the look of fine lines and wrinkles, and this moisturizer uses it as a key ingredient. It also uses pearl pigments that blur imperfections for a more even-toned complexion, sans makeup.
One satisfied customer writes: "Would I consider this the next time I need to repurchase a face sunscreen? Definitely! This fresh moisture version of the Urban Environment sunscreen keeps my skin from feeling dry and I definitely notice the more plumped appearance of my skin shortly after putting it on, without ever feeling greasy or too heavy for sweaty summer weather."
Glowy products typically conjure visions of shimmer or sparkle, but this SPF moisturizer leaves skin looking dewy. While it gives your skin an immediate luminous effect, it also brightens skin over time, courtesy of vitamin C–so no need to use a separate serum beforehand.
One satisfied customer writes: "I've been using this for 2+ years and it is definitely my holy grail spf. i don't wear makeup of any sort, plus i am very pale and fair, so this just gives me that healthy, dewy glow i need & a "barely-there" subtle natural look. the texture is almost whipped and has a nice mattifying feel, really easy to apply & sets in quickly."
Retinol may be a mainstay in your nighttime routine for firming skin and reducing the look of fine lines and wrinkles, but Exuviance makes a case for pairing it with your SPF. This ingenious SPF-infused face cream, which can be used daily, combines retinol with NeoGlucosamin, an ingredient that's said to help even discoloration, for a moisturizer that's both protective and preventative.
One satisfied customer writes: " I get compliments on my skin all the time since I began using about 10 years ago. Back then I had asked a client “WHAT DO YOU USE ON YOUR SKIN?!” She could not say or spell it but sent me a photo of the name. Give it at least a month before the glowing begins. I use the foaming cleanser, toner pads, night and day cream. My skin glows and looks 20 years younger than other women my age. I highly recommend one use the product line and stick with it give it at least three months.
Fenty Skin Hydra Vizor Mineral SPF 30 Refillable Moisturizer
If buying bottles upon bottles of non-refillable skincare products gives you anxiety, it's due time to invest in a refillable product, like this bestseller from Fenty Skin. Rihanna pulled out all the stops with this one. On top of containing hydrating hyaluronic acid and chemical sunscreen agents, it also uses the superstar ingredient niacinamide to even out skin tone and brighten your complexion with consistent use.
One satisfied customer writes: "Where do I begin?! I love Fenty skincare. This mineral SPF has the perfect tint that evens skin tone for a natural, smooth look. I am always looking for more eco friendly products to use, so it’s a huge added bonus that this is a refillable product!! It moisturizes and protects your facial skin. I use it for sunny days when I need SPF, but still want my skin to look sheer and have an even tone."
Origins A Perfect World™ SPF 40 Age-Defense Moisturizer
This moisturizer has a series of antioxidants, like white tea leaf extract, birch bark extract, and wolfberry fruit extract. They play a crucial role in neutralizing skin-damaging free radicals, making them essential in any anti-aging skincare routine. It also contains hydrating hyaluronic acid, along with both mineral and chemical sunscreen agents for comprehensive UV protection.
One satisfied customer writes: "This product is extremely good. It's moisturizing and helped minimize the appearance of my fine lines. I feel like my skin is better than ever! I apply to damp clean skin and leave on overnight! I'm hydrated the next day like literally glowing."
Lancôme UV Expert Aquagel Primer & Moisturizer SPF 50
This Lancôme moisturizer-sunscreen hybrid is touted as a three-in-one skincare solution. It primes your face for makeup, hydrates with glycerin, and shields your skin with SPF 60 protection. It's a must-have for makeup enthusiasts because you can forego both primer and moisturizer for a seamless makeup application.
One satisfied customer writes: "I use this product as a primer under my makeup to protect my skin. It doesn't irritate my skin or feel greasy. It is perfect for my super sensitive skin type. I also like that it doesn't leave a residue after applying to my skin."
Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Moisturizing Face Serum
If you detest traditional sunscreen formulas, try this option, which is completely weightless, absorbs quickly, and feels undetectable on the skin. It also doubles as a makeup primer and contains the highest SPF factor on this list. (Remember, a higher SPF doesn't always mean better protection; it simply offers a slightly higher level of defense than the baseline of SPF 30).
One satisfied customer writes: "I hate wearing sunscreen because of the consistency and/or the white residue they sometimes have. This one is hydrating and creamy and doesn’t feel like sunscreen while I still get all the protection!"
Soleil Toujours Mineral Ally Daily Defense SPF 30
Who says your whole body can't reap the benefits of a moisturizer with SPF? This mineral-based formula will not only look chic on your vanity, but also uses skin-softening shea butter, antioxidant-rich vitamin E, and hydrating aloe leaf juice to give skin a healthy glow. Bonus: You can use it on both your face and body.
One satisfied customer writes: “I love the luxurious packaging that make my vanity look nice and chic. Second, after I applied on my skin, my skin feel smooth & glow. I love that it doesn’t leave my skin feel greasy. It’s a best sunscreen that I have used so far."

"Moisturizers with SPF are best for daily use, as long as they are SPF 30 and above," Lal says. This aligns with the American Academy of Dermatology's recommendation for daily sun protection. However, if you anticipate spending more than 60-80 minutes outdoors, he suggests using a dedicated sunscreen on top of moisturizer for enhanced protection instead.
Is moisturizer with SPF just as effective as sunscreen?
The reality is that true sunscreens have higher SPF levels compared to moisturizers, which often max out at SPF 30. Likewise, sunscreens are often formulated to bear the elements like sweat, whereas moisturizers with SPF are usually not.
Moisturizer with SPF isn't as ideal as traditional sunscreen, but it's a practical choice, especially if it seamlessly fits into your morning routine. Just be sure to apply the amount directed on the packaging to ensure you reap the full SPF protection.
Lal highlights the trade-offs between the two, noting that many sunscreens swap moisturizing properties for specific ingredients needed for UVB protection, so using a moisturizer with SPF is essentially a double-win in terms of protection and hydration.
Moisturizer with SPF offers a convenient compromise for days when your skin is particularly dry or when you don't plan to spend time outdoors. Just remember, moisturizer with SPF isn't a substitute for sunscreen during prolonged sun exposure, and you still need to reapply throughout the day no matter which method you choose. We highly recommend a product like the Supergoop! Refreshing Mist SPF 40 for mid-day pick-me-ups, especially if you're a regular makeup-wearer.
How do you find the SPF moisturizer that's best for you?
Sadly, there's no answer to which SPF face moisturizer is best because it comes down to personal preference. But to broadly answer the question, the best SPF face moisturizer is the one you'll consistently incorporate into your daily routine. (Some SPF is always better than no SPF.)
However, to maximize its effectiveness, consider your skin type, product preferences, and budget when selecting a moisturizer with SPF. Standout features to look for include broad-spectrum protection against both UVA and UVB rays, a minimum SPF factor of 30, and antioxidants to defend against free radical damage.

The Best Skin-Care Routine for Teens With Acne, According to Dermatologists
In this article
Moisturizer, spot treatment.
For teens, entering the world of skin care and building a routine can be confusing. Add acne to the equation, and the whole task can seem impossible. Not only are these teens dealing with a skin-care complaint that can seriously affect their confidence, but they’re being bombarded with hundreds of products, each of which claim to help. This abundance of choice backfires, dermatologists told me. A wide range of products actually leads to a lot of teens entering into a frustrating cycle: By buying and trying every new skin-care product, they seriously damage their skin in the process , and make their acne worse.
But I’m here to help. I’ve used my three years of skin-care writing expertise, and chatted with dermatologists, to nail down the skin-care steps and products to best help teens with acne. Now, when I say acne , I’m talking about anything from angry red pustules, to bumpy closed comedones, and pesky whiteheads and blackheads . The treatment that’s best for a teen will depend on the type of acne that they’re developing — and below I’ve made it clear which product is best suited for which type of zit.
Below, I’ve built an entire skin-care routine, from the basics that every teen (and everybody, for that matter) will benefit from using daily, to more targeted treatments for preventing acne , as well as products to use during a breakout, and to prevent acne-scars. Each step of the way, I’ve kept teenage budgets in mind. Throughout, I’ve peppered advice from my dermatologists about how to best treat acne, some common mistakes, and words of encouragement, such as their advice on when to seek help from a professional. “If you’re seeing dark marks or scarring, if it comes on very suddenly, if it’s very painful, then it’s best to see a dermatologist right away — because not all red bumps are acne,” says Carmen Castilla, M.D . “Also if it’s really affecting their self-esteem or self-confidence, it’s better to come in.”
If you already know the type of product you’re interested in (and the kind of acne that you have), you can jump straight ahead to that section. And make sure to also read my more general guide to teen skin care , as well as our pieces on dealing with acne .
Everybody should cleanse — always once at night, and potentially once in the morning, if you have particularly oily skin and feel the need. For this, you’ll want a simple, gentle product. CeraVe make my favorite: Their hydrating cleanser contains ceramides and glycerin, so it won’t dry your skin out as it cleanses. If you have oilier skin, you might prefer their foaming cleanser — it’s still hydrating, but gives the pores a bit more of a strip.
If your acne is showing up as closed comedones (tiny raised bumps on the surface of the skin), blackheads, or whiteheads, salicylic acid is the ingredient to incorporate into your skin-care routine. “This is usually the first sign of acne teens experience, and they’re very common along the forehead,” says Castilla. “Salicylic acid will help exfoliate the skin and unclog the pores.” Four dermatologists recommended this cleanser from La Roche-Posay — it contains 2 percent salicylic acid, the percentage Dr Jaimie Glick, M.D ., says she always recommends to teens as it’s effective yet not too strong.
You might be wondering, Why bother with the CeraVe cleanser as well? And that’s because although the percentage is low, using a targeted cleanser everyday is too much for young skin. “Everyday is probably too much. Anytime you’re introducing something new with an active ingredient, introduce it slowly. See how you tolerate it, and see if it works,” says Dr. Jeremy Brauer , Founder at Spectrum Skin and Laser. “If you benefit from using it only a couple of times a week, fantastic. If you find that you need to use it more often, then you can do so.” The same advice also applies to the CeraVe benzoyl peroxide cleanser I’ve highlighted below.
If your acne is red, angry, and showing up as pustules, benzoyl peroxide will be the best ingredient to introduce. Three of my dermatologists recommended this cleanser from CeraVe as an effective, non-irritating choice. “Benzoyl peroxide can be very drying but this a gentler formulation,” says Castilla. “It contains hyaluronic acid to help maintain hydration and ceramides that help support a healthy skin barrier.” Those with drier, sensitive skin types might prefer to incorporate benzoyl peroxide in the cleansing step, as opposed to a spot treating step, as it is much gentler on the skin. A ward of warning, though: Benzoyl peroxide can stain towels and bedsheets — so lock the guest towels away.
Moisturizing is another universal step, but it really becomes vital when you’re introducing acne-targeting ingredients to your routine. “For the most part, these ingredients are all drying and irritating,” says Castilla. “A good moisturizer is going to help your skin tolerate them.” If you have oilier skin, several of my dermatologists recommended a gel-based moisturizer. In fact, most of them named this one by Neutrogena as their favorite. Dr Margarita Lolis told me she recommends it as it’s simple, and kind to skin. “You want to use a moisturizer that does not have many ingredients. They can irritate or even serve as allergens since your skin barrier is already compromised,” she says. “I recommend staying away from any fragrance, parabens, lanolin, formaldehyde, etc. Look for moisturizers that contain humectants and ceramides, as this one does.”
This creamier moisturizer is suited to drier skin types. Dr Lolis, Dr Castilla, and dermatologist Vladyslava Doktor all recommend it to their acne-prone patients with dry to extremely dry skin types. “It’s good for sensitive skin, and has ceramides, which are basic moisturizing ingredients,” says Dr Doktor. The moisturizer also contains niacinamide , which is an anti-inflammatory (and should help with redness).
SPF is a universal last step, but it becomes even more vital when you’re using acne-targeting ingredients. That’s because retinoids (more on that, below) and benzoyl peroxide increase the skin’s sensitivity to UV damage. Sun damage can also lead to the darkening of any scars that acne may leave behind. So if teens haven’t been using SPF, now is the time to get into the habit.
My preferred SPF comes from Elta-MD, which is a sunscreen targeted towards acne-prone skin. It’s a mineral sunscreen that uses zinc oxide to form a physical barrier between the skin and the sun. It’s by no means cheap, but it’s been recommended to me by dozens of dermatologists, who tell me teens won’t be put off by its consistency. “It feels like silk going on, is perfectly seamless, transparent, and lightweight,” says Philadelphia-based dermatologist Dr. Nazanin Saedi .
If you want to really target a zit , use this cream after cleansing, but before moisturizing. This spot treatment has a 10 percent concentration of benzoyl peroxide, compared to the above cleanser’s 4 percent. This means it’s much more effective, but as Dr. Saedi warns “can cause irritation if you use too much and get it on unaffected skin.” Use it sparingly, dabbing it on your red angry pimples, and make sure to keep the area and the skin around it well moisturized (and again, far away from the fancy guest towels).
A piece of advice from every skin care professional that I have ever interviewed: Don’t pick your spots! Tempting as it is, picking can lead to scarring, and pesky bacteria from picking-fingers can actually make your breakouts worse. When teens feel the urge to pick a spot that has already surfaced, I recommend slapping a pimple patch on the area instead. These will work best on freshly prepped skin so use it at the very end of your routine. These ones from Hero Cosmetics will shield the pimple from potential pollution, reduce the urge to pick, and use hydrocolloid to draw gunk from within the breakout to the surface. They’re also almost invisible.
For deeper spots that haven’t surfaced yet, a patch with microdarts can speed up the process. These ones from ZitSticka deliver salicylic acid, niacinamide, and hyaluronic acid via micro darts into the skin. They help increase skin-cell turnover, reduce inflammation, and speed up the entire healing process.
Retinoids is an umbrella term for a group of vitamin a derived products that stimulate cell turnover, and help reduce the look and texture of acne. While retinoids are beneficial for all kinds of acne, it’s a particularly popular choice for those dealing with painful cystic acne , which is often triggered by changes in hormones. Retinol and retinal are both kinds of retinoids, as is adapalene, which is the retinoid found in Differin gel. Differin gel is so popular as, while it was once available only by prescription, you can now purchase it over the counter. Differin, as mentioned, is great at stimulating skin cell turnover, but it can also be very irritating, and many people using it for the first time can notice redness or a purge period. That’s why it’s important to introduce it to your routine slowly, says Dr Brauer. “We’re not racing, we’re taking the tortoise approach.” If you’re using this, slot it in after cleansing, and before moisturizing. ” I would advise that a little goes a long way, just a pea size for the entire face with moisturizer on top,” says dermatologist B rooke Jeffy, M.D . “If struggling with irritation, application on dry (not damp) skin can help as can sandwiching it between layers of moisturizer.” If retinoids simply don’t agree with your skin, you might want to chat with your doctor about starting a form of hormonal birth control — which has also been shown to help tame this kind of acne.

Travel + Leisure / Madison Woiten
If there’s one product that you should never leave for a trip — let alone the house — without , it’s a high-quality sunscreen . Sun protection factor, or SPF, represents a sunscreen’s ability to protect against the sun’s harmful ultraviolet (UV) light, preventing sunburns and potential skin damage. By using sunscreen regularly, you can decrease your likelihood of developing skin cancer and premature aging signs like wrinkles and dark spots.
And if there’s one thing to know about me, it's that I’ll never be caught outside without being covered head to toe in sunscreen, even on an overcast day. This SPF love affair started back in my beauty retail days , and I have tested dozens of sunscreen products — each with different formulas, textures, and target areas — to find the very best ones that not only provide ample protection, but look and feel good, too. I'm not one to gatekeep, so I've rounded up my picks so everyone can get one step closer to finding their SPF soulmate. Below, I've included everything from a whipped cream-like body SPF to my go-to hand sunscreen from Supergoop . Prices start at just $10, so if you have a trip coming up, you'll definitely want to stock up.
Vacation Classic Whip SPF 30
The brand Vacation calls this body SPF a “dessert for your skin,” and as someone who has been proudly wearing it since 2022, I can absolutely attest to that. If the mere thought of applying sunscreen doesn't spark joy for you, then it's time to trade in your ordinary squeeze bottle of traditional lotion for this dreamy version that dispenses the product like a whipped cream bottle. Aside from its fun packaging, the sunscreen is reef-friendly and water-resistant (for up to 80 minutes), and it feels just as good as it looks. The mousse-like texture also feels far more moisturizing than other body sunscreen products that I’ve tried, and with how much the sun dehydrates my skin, it’s something that I absolutely love about this product.
Vacation Super Spritz SPF 50
As someone who wears makeup on most days, it can be hard to reapply sunscreen once you’ve already concealed, contoured, and powdered. Most formulas are only intended to be applied under your makeup and protect you for just a few hours, so I keep this convenient sunscreen spray on me at all times to refresh my SPF coverage throughout the day (you can spray it over your makeup without disturbing your glam). It's also formulated with skin-friendly ingredients like aloe, vitamin E, caffeine, and more to give my face a jolt of hydration, energy, and brightness — things it can always use after a long travel day or sun tanning session. Even better, it's on sale for $17 at Ulta right now.
Blue Lizard Sensitive Mineral Sunscreen SPF 50
When considering which sunscreen is best for you, it’s important to evaluate when and where you are planning to use it. While some of my go-to SPF products are better suited for everyday protection, if I am preparing for an extended day outdoors or engaging in physical activities, I consistently apply Blue Lizard's fragrance-free sunscreen. This particular sunscreen is both sweat- and water-resistant, making it the perfect choice for active days. While it does give a slight white cast (nothing too stark), I don’t mind it because I know how much protection its mineral SPF 50 formula is giving me.
Tower 28 SunnyDays SPF 30 Tinted Sunscreen
While I have a plethora of sunscreens in my lineup, when it comes to travel, I love streamlining my products as much as I can. The space in my toiletry bag is disappointingly finite, so that’s why I absolutely love this tinted SPF that acts as a sunscreen and glowy foundation. It actually works so well as a foundation that I’ve routinely worn it on nights out and have been delightfully pleased with its long-lasting, flashback-free formula. And I’m not the only one that loves skin-enhancing sunscreen, one Travel + Leisure writer raved that “this product saves time and does double duty by evening out my skin tone while also protecting from the sun, no matter the season.” Its light-to-medium coverage is perfect for anything on your itinerary and it's easy to apply on the go, so give it a try ahead of your next vacation.
Tatcha The Kissu Lip Tint SPF 25
Protecting your lips from the sun is just as important as protecting the rest of your skin. UV rays can cause damage to the delicate skin on your lips, leading to issues like sunburn, wrinkles, and dryness. I’ve tried plenty of SPF lip products over the years, but few have compared to this newly released lip tint from Tatcha. With SPF 25 coverage, a luxurious-feeling formula, and a subtle tint of color, this product not only keeps my lips safe but also leaves them looking fabulous. I love that it gives me peace of mind that my pout is protected, hydrated, and dolled up.
Tatcha The Silk Sunscreen SPF 50
In my experience, few mineral sunscreens that claim to feel weightless deliver, but this lightweight formula actually feels like a veil of silk on my skin. We all know how damaging and drying the sun can be for our skin, but fortunately, in addition to its SPF 50 protection, this product is filled with good-for-you ingredients like hyaluronic acid and niacinamide for extra hydration. It’s consistently sold out — which speaks to its effectiveness — but I found a bunch of them in stock at Sephora. Whether you wear it alone for a radiant, makeup-free look or as a base under makeup for all-day protection, this product is a game-changer.
Coola Scalp & Hair Sunscreen SPF 30
Many people tend to overlook the importance of protecting their scalp, but being as it's one of the first places that the sun touches, it should be a crucial part of your overall protection routine. In an effort to be more diligent about my scalp SPF coverage, I started using this product last summer, and I’m amazed by how much more hydrated my hair feels by not being dehydrated and burned from the sun. This spray blends in incredibly seamlessly, providing protection within moments and, even better, without making your hair feel greasy or weighed down.
Sun Bum Original Sunscreen Spray SPF 70
Made without harmful chemicals like oxybenzone or octinoxate that harm our reefs, this is one of my go-to spray-on sunscreen products for beach days. It goes on easily, smells nice, and is affordable enough that I feel comfortable sharing it with large groups of people during a day out in the sun. In addition to my high praise, it's also garnered over 21,000 perfect ratings from shoppers, who gushed that its easy-to-apply formula never feels greasy .
Supergoop! Mini Handscreen SPF 40
I love nearly all of Supergoop’s effective and skin-friendly formulas , but a product that I feel is often overlooked is its hand cream. While you can (and should) be lathering your hands in your body SPF, the skin around our hands is much more delicate than the rest of our body (it's one of the first places to show wrinkles as we age). Therefore, it benefits from sunscreen with a bit more TLC. That’s where Handscreen, which is designed specifically for your hands, comes in. Formulated with SPF 40 and anti-aging antioxidants and hydrating oils, it's not only protecting your skin, but also enhancing it over time.
EltaMD UV AOX Eye Broad Spectrum SPF 30
The skin under our eyes, much like our hands and lips, is extremely delicate and requires special care — particularly in terms of sun protection. With a powerful SPF 30 and sun damage-reversing antioxidants that combat dark circles and wrinkles, this compact under-eye product is an essential addition to my travel toiletry bag. In fact, I use it in lieu of concealer on busy travel days thanks to its subtle coverage and skin-brightening ingredients. Although it may be a bit more expensive than your drugstore coverup, it's an invaluable product that goes a long way, and I firmly believe that it has had the most significant impact in terms of safeguarding my under-eyes from the sun and brightening them over time. Plus, it helps you save precious toiletry bag space.
