This Disney Magic Cruise sails from Dover, England on September 11, 2022.

british isles cruise disney

Your Disney Cruise will start from the port of Dover which is located on the South East coast of England.

Guests traveling from overseas will most likely fly into London, with the most usual airport from the US being Heathrow.

If you are flying into London it is a great idea to add at least 2 nights (and hopefully more) to stay in this amazing city.

british isles cruise disney

There is so much to see and do in London, you really should take the chance to spend some time here if you can.

It is relatively easy to get from London to the Disney Cruise Port in Dover. The distance is around 85 miles by road, however, if you are visiting from overseas I do not recommend that you rent a car to drive that journey! There are easier ways…

Disney usually offers a shuttle from London and Heathrow Airport, although you should research if this is the most efficient and cost-effective way of traveling there.

When a major cruise ship, such as the Disney Magic is in port in Dover there are shuttles from Heathrow to the port.

Another easy way to travel is by train. You will need a taxi from the train station to the port, but it’s not too far.

Here is more information about your London to Dover Transportation Options.

A huge part of the cruise experience is the excursions and activities which are offered to explore the ports.

Here are just some of the excursions offered on the Disney British Isles cruise.

Greenock, Scotland Disney Cruise Excursions

Greenock is a small town on the Scottish west coast. Glasgow is just 27 miles away with Edinburgh a bit further, but still a very manageable 72 miles away.

There are some excellent port adventures on offer from Greenock with Disney Cruise Lines. Here are some of the best picks:

It takes around 2 hours to reach Edinburgh from Greenock in your air-conditioned bus. You will visit Edinburgh Castle – a fascinating and largely well preserved medieval castle.

You will then visit Holyrood Palace, which is the Queen’s official residence in Edinburgh. Don’t expect that she will be in residence, but the Royal Apartments are fascinating, particularly if you are familiar with any of the history of Mary Queen of Scots who lived there for some time before her forced abdication.

The cost of this excursion is $164 for adults and $89 for children aged 3 to 9. There is also an adult-only departure available.

You can also combine a visit to Edinburgh Castle and Holyrood with a tour of the Royal Yacht Britannia. This is $149 for adults and $89 for children aged 3 to 9.

british isles cruise disney

This approximately 5 hour tour gives you a good overview of Glasgow. You will spend around 90 minutes on a driving tour around the city. You will then drive to beautiful Kelvington where you will see the old university with its historic buildings and take a look at the museum.

The cost for this excursion is $65 for adults and $40 for children aged 3 to 9.

If the beautiful scenery of Scotland is on your wish list, this Panoramic Scottish Lochs excursion is a great option. You will see four of Scotland’s lochs, including the most famous one, Loch Lomond on this 5 hour tour. It is priced at $75 for adults and $45 for children aged 3 to 9.

Dublin, Ireland Disney British Isles Cruise Port Adventures

british isles cruise disney

The Disney Magic first sailed to Dublin in 2016 and it’s been a highly popular port stop since then. Dublin Port is located just about a mile from the vibrant city centre of Dublin, so it is possible to tour the city by yourself.

Unfortunately, Dublin is not a port stop on the Disney British Isles Cruise in 2022. It has been replaced with a port stop in Belfast.

However, there were also some excellent Disney cruise port adventures available from Dublin. I am leaving these in this article for the sake of completeness as I am confident there will be a return to Dublin in 2023.

This 4.5 hour tour takes you on a scenic tour of Dublin with stops at  Trinity College and St. Patrick’s Cathedral. The cost is $99 for adults and $72 for children aged 3 to 9.

british isles cruise disney

Dublin is of course famous for Guinness. If you want to learn more about this much revered and historic beer the Guinness Connoisseur Tour is for you. Well, if you are over 18 anyway!

You will experience a tour and luxury tasting in the Guinness Storehouse The cost is $199 and you must be 18 or older to participate.

If you are more of a fan of whiskey than the black stuff, this tour is the one for you. This activity will combine a city tour of Dublin with a Whiskey Shakers 60-minute master class in the art of making whiskey cocktails where you’ll try your hand at three different cocktails.

You need to be at least 21 or older for this tour which costs $289.

This is a great way to see the sights of Dublin. Board the  Liffey Voyager  for a 45-minute relaxing cruise along the river. The cost is $79 for adults and $56 for children aged 0 to 9. This is one of the few activities where children under 3 are charged.

Liverpool England Port Adventures

british isles cruise disney

Liverpool port is conveniently located within easy walking distance of the City Centre, but you may want to take a port adventure so that you can see things a little further afield.

When you think of Liverpool you think of The Beatles. There are a number of tours available including this one which is a 4.5 hour experience.

You will visit The Beatles Story museum, The Cavern Club, Abbey Road, Penny Lane, and Strawberry Fields. If you are a Beatles fan this is a must-do tour! The cost is $93 for adults and $72 for children aged 3 to 9.

Just a 75 minute drive away is the beautiful medieval town of Chester. You will experience a driving tour by motor coach for an hour and then get 2.5 hours to explore on your own.

Explore the 12th-century Cathedral and the Roman Walls. Browse the shops and perhaps have a traditional English Tea. The cost is $103 for adults and $87 for children aged 3 to 9.

The Lake District is one of the most breathtakingly beautiful areas of England. You can enjoy this 7 hour tour for $129 for adults and $98 for children aged 3 to 9.

The motor coach journey takes around 2 hours from Liverpool. You will then board a lake steamer boat to the beautiful town of Bowness. After some free time browsing the stores and taking in the scenery you will board the motorcoach back to the Disney Magic in Liverpool.

This amazing fortification is just under 2 hours drive from Liverpool and offers fabulous views of the mountains and the ocean. Conwy Castle is a remarkably well preserved 8 tower castle.

Enjoy a 3-course meal in the charming village of Betws-y-Coed, and enjoy free time to browse the shops for souvenirs. The cost of this port adventure is $175 for adults and $142 for children aged 3 to 9.

Belfast, Northern Ireland Disney British Isles Cruise Port Adventures

Belfast is a fascinating city, with plenty of different Port Adventures to choose from.

This gives you a great overview of the City of Belfast. This 3-hour motor coach tour will show you the highlights of Belfast including Grand Opera House, the Albert Memorial Clock, and Belfast Castle.

The cost is $39 for adults and $29 for children aged 3 to 9.

The coastal area is stunningly beautiful and well worth taking a tour to experience this part of the country,

Your motor coach tour will last approximately 9 hours and take you to see some amazing sights including Giant’s Causeway and Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge.

The cost is $149 for adults and $109 for children.

Cobh, (Cork) Disney Cruise Port Activities

Cobh is a small town that has the only designated cruise ship port in Ireland. Cobh itself is pleasant enough, but you will probably want to venture further afield.

Blarney Castle

If you have ever wanted to kiss the Blarney Stone now is your chance with this excursion to Blaney Castle. Just a short 45 minute drive from the cruise port, Blarney Castle is an amazing piece of history. Built in 1446, the Castle is set in beautiful grounds.

You will have some free time to explore the town. This is a great chance to pick up some genuine Irish made souvenirs including Waterford Crystal, Irish Linen, and Celtic Jewelry.

Ireland is of course well known for its fine whiskey. On this excursion you will first drive to Cork for a 60 minute tour of the town.

You will then drive to Midleton to visit the Jameson Distillery. Guests will taste 3 different premium whiskey samples.

You have to be aged 21 and over to experience this tour and the cost is $220.

Perhaps you may not want to think about the Titanic when are sailing on a Disney Cruise, but if you do this is an interesting tour!

Cork was the place where the Titanic set sail – and you can learn more about the history of the doomed voyage on this 3 hour walking tour around the town. The cost is $110 or adults and $75 for children aged 3 to 9.

If you want to experience something a little more adventurous you may want to try this tour which costs $130 and is open to aged 12 and over only. Board a 12-person Rigid Inflatable Boat to explore Cork Harbour, at high speed.

You will stop for a brief time to experience an Irish Coffee Making Demonstration before you head back to the harbor.

Portland (Stonehenge) Disney British Isles Cruise Excursions

stonehenge

Portland is located in the incredibly beautiful county of Dorset in England. Many guests travel to Stonehenge, but we would suggest that you think about some alternative excursions as

Take an excursion to a traditional English stately home at Minterne House and Gardens. Guests will meet the lord of the manor himself, Lord Digby, who will take them on a private tour of the house. Then relax with a Dorset cream tea in the family dining room.

This is an exclusive tour which is not usually open to the general public. The cost is $114 for adults and $84 for children aged 3 to 9.

Many people will want to visit Stonehenge and this tour combines a trip there with a visit to the beautiful city of Salisbury with its historic Castle and Cathedral.

The tour lasts approximately 8 hours and for half of that you will be in a motor coach. If I sound as though I am being less than positive about this is that you should probably do your own separate research about what you can see at Stonehenge. As obviously the stones need to be preserved, the area was fenced off quite some time ago. You can still see the stones, but the experience is not once it once was.

The cost for this tour is $139 for adults and $109 for children aged 3 to 9.

For the more adventurous you can take an exciting tour to Lulworth Cove in a Rigid Inflatable Boat. The coast is known as the Jurassic Coast Cruise,England’s first and only Natural World Heritage site. You sail to the beautiful bay of Lulworth Cove.

This area really is spectacular and this is a great way to see it. The tour costs $179 for adults and $159 for children aged 3 to 9.

Will Disney bring back the 12 night British Isles Cruise for 2023?

This was a very popular cruise and had the following as port stops:

  • Newcastle, England
  • Invergordon, Scotland
  • Kirkwall, Scotland
  • Greenock (Glasgow & Edinburgh), Scotland
  • Liverpool, England
  • Dublin, Ireland
  • Le Havre, France
  • Peter Port, Guernsey

The longer cruises do tend to sell out quickly, but it remains to be seen what Disney Cruise itineraries will look like for Europe in 2023.

Right now all of the Disney Cruise 2022 itineraries have been released, and early 2023 has also been released.

The Disney Magic has traditionally sailed from May to September in Europe. With the launch of the Disney Wish in June 2022, the Magic is expected to continue this pattern, and perhaps even extend her European dates for 2023.

Will you be sailing or have you sailed on a Disney British Isles Cruise?

The Caribbean DCL Life For Us!

  • Feb 12, 2018

What has been your experience with the BI cruise? Coming from California, were the flights to London expensive? We've never been to Europe, so this would be a whole new flying and cruise experience for us. TIA

tink1970

DCL Platinum

Alohagirl73, mouseketeer.

This is an awesome cruise. We did the inaugural and want to do it again. We too came from California but had a direct flight from San Diego on British Airways. It wasn't cheap for 3 plus an infant. I too recommend Poison Ivy's trip report. She is writing a very detailed report.

EllinK

DIS Veteran

We are also from CA. Went last year and really enjoyed it. Couldn't find a deal on airfare so we decided to stopover in Iceland and at least feel like we were getting more for our $$. Iceland was also amazing. I can give you specifics about what we did, what we liked etc. Feel free to ask questions.

tink1970 said: I don't want to come off as being sassy (because I'm not intending to sound that way) but have you been following @poisonivy's trip report? It sounds like she, her husband and son as well as others on the trip loved it! Anyway, her tr is very thorough and answers AT LOT of questions (although she flew from the East Coast). https://disboards.com/threads/disney-magic-12-nt-british-isles-cruise-2017.3623371/ Last year my family and I did the Dover to Barcelona cruise and it was our first DCL in Europe. We loved it. Hang the cost, the experience was wonderful. Just my 2 cents I'd love to do the BI cruise as well...and the Baltic...and the Iceland...and yep, all of them! Click to expand...

tink1970 said: I think @poisonivy's son is an adult but there are a couple of people posting on her thread who had children and it sounds like they enjoyed themselves...not sure what activities they did, though. In France, there's DL Paris as an excursion (actually 3 or 4 different ones) which would appeal to kids of all ages; I know in London most people hit up the Harry Potter Studios (pre or post cruise). Scotland has a fascinating (read: bloody) history so if you have the right guide all that dry history comes alive in a fun way...of course having the right guide is key I just went to the port adventures section for this year's cruise and there seem to be quite an assortment of different experiences-sort of made me wish I was on the cruise for this year Click to expand...

Germans are faster at dubbing

We were looking at this cruise, but we live in Germany and have been to London so many times. I would hope anyone planning this cruise adds on a few days before/after just for London. (Believe port is Dover). IMO London as a single day port call is not doing any justice and a shame as there’s too much to see and do. More than NYC. And who only visits NYC for 8 hrs??

I would be a long day going to DLP from the boat, but it would be super easy to visit there before or after and get the train straight from the parks to central London.

Calfan

We did the 12-day BI cruise last summer (2017) and loved it! We'd definitely consider doing it again. That was our fourth DCL European cruise (Med, Iceland/Norway/Scotland, Baltics) and maybe our favorite of the four. We live in Idaho but actually booked our flights to/from San Francisco to use United miles. I ended up scoring a saver upgrade to first class for our flights there about a week out, which was awesome. We spent three nights in Cornwall and two in London before the cruise. Cornwall was absolutely fantastic. Highly recommend. We enjoyed London too. We did the Harry Potter Studios tour, the London Eye and high tea. My kids were 12 and 14 on the cruise (although closer to 13 and 15). In Invergordon, we did the horseback riding PA through DCL which we really enjoyed. We also did a number of private tours so we could be a little more active on our excursions.

ChicosWife said: Where did you fly out of? How long did you stay in Iceland? Were 2 flights (with the stayover in Iceland) cheaper than just a direct flight to London? Click to expand...

wajones2

We did the British Isles in 2017, and are hoping they bring the 12 night back for 2019! We did 5 pre-nights in London and 2 post-nights in London. The cruise itself was by far our favorite...Family of 3 (DD was 7). If they stop in Le Harve again, we are going to stay closer to the port vs driving into Paris for the day. I think our pre-nights will be in Paris next time.

In Le Havre we went to Giverney and really enjoyed it.

Adventures by Disney Itinerary Spotlight: British Isles

With everyone emerging from their two year hibernation, many are looking to explore the world. Adventures by Disney is ready to share the world with you while providing the Disney service you expect. Next year, they will be  adding two new itineraries to their roster . Let’s take a look at what you can expect with Disney’s new British Isles 8-day itinerary.

british isles cruise disney

Your adventure begins in Dublin when you check in to your home for two nights at The Westin Dublin. This modern hotel features a 19th century facade, but elegant new interiors. After you get settled, you will meet your fellow adventurers and adventure guides for your welcome dinner which also features the added bonus of a celtic harpist.

The first full day begins with a private visit to EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum, a fully digital museum dedicated to the story of Ireland’s people as they emigrated across the world. After the visit, you will enjoy a treat of scones and tea at a local bakery. You will then move on to a Teeling Whiskey Distillery tour where interested adults will enjoy a sampling of 3 of their award winning whiskey. Others will enjoy a non-alcoholic option. It is then time for your private lunch at a local pub where you will enjoy music by local musicians where you will be encouraged to sing along. After lunch, you will enjoy an evening dinner on your own in Dublin.

You will start your journey to Belfast with a visit to Tracey’s Farmhouse Kitchen where you will be able to make your own authentic soda and potato breads. You will then enjoy that bread and other delicious items with a private lunch in the farmhouse. Next up is a tour of Belfast which features many of the sights of the city including City Hall, Queens University, Ulster Hall, the Botanical Garden and the wall murals of Falls Road and Shankill Road. Next is the Titanic Belfast experience where you will explore the full history of the reportedly unsinkable ship. You will then check-in at the five-star Culloden Estate and Spa. Adults will enjoy a relaxing dinner at the Cultra Inn at the hotel while Junior Adventurers will have their own dinner followed by fun and games on the hotel’s lawn.

Enjoy a scenic morning drive along the Antrim Coast, which has been designated as an “Area of Outstanding Beauty.” Then see the 40,000 interlocking basalt columns that were caused by a volcanic eruption….or a giant…. Lunch will be at the Bushmills Inn, a boutique hotel located on the coast. There will then be some time to explore the village on your own, followed by a return to Belfast and an evening on your own.

Start your day bright and early with a ferry ride to Cairnryan, Scotland. Upon arrival in Glasgow, visit The National Piping Centre where you will learn about, and how to play, the bagpipes. Recover from your performance with a Scottish lunch at Piper’s Tryst. You will then check in to your Eniburgh home, the InterContinental Edinburgh The George. You will then explore the streets of Edinburgh with a Scottish dinner in the heart of the city.

british isles cruise disney

You will then visit the Royal Yacht Britannia, the former royal yacht of Queen Elizabeth II. You will get “behind-the-ropes” access and enjoy a reception of scones and coffee in the Royal Deck Tea Room. You will then experience a privately guided tour of The Palace of Holyroodhouse which is the Queen’s official residence in Edinburgh. As you head to Edinburgh Castle, you will stop at the statue of Greyfriars Bobby, who you may remember from the 1961 Disney film. Lunch will be on your own, and then you will have a privately guided tour of Edinburgh Castle. Finally enjoy dinner and an evening on your own in Edinburgh.

The next day starts with a coffee and tea reception at Floors Castle. You will then enjoy a tour of the castle and its gardens. Next is a private lunch and shortbread-making lesson taught by the private chef for the Duke and Duchess  that call the castle home. You will then return to your hotel where adults will have a dinner at their leisure at the hotel, while Junior Adventurers have their own dinner and movie night.

british isles cruise disney

After breakfast, you will head to the train station for a journey from Edinburgh to London. Upon arrival you will enjoy afternoon tea at your hotel, The Waldorf Hilton. Then there will be a change in pace as you go on a high-speed boat ride down the River Thames. It is then dinner and evening on your own in London.

Your final full day begins with a personal welcome from a Beefeater guard at the Tower of London. There you will have a private-access viewing of the Royal Crown Jewels before a private tour of the Tower of London. You will then move on to Westminster Abbey for a private tour followed by a british lunch at a local pub. Then you will stop for a photo stop at Buckingham Palace. Then enjoy some time on your own in London before a farewell dinner at the hotel. The next morning enjoy breakfast before Disney handles your transportation to the airport.

Bookings for the initial Adventures by Disney British Isles itineraries are now open.

Did you have a big crowd in Liverpool? For the 2017 sailing, it looked like the entire town was there. Many kids were in costume. The town was projecting The Lion King on the wall next to the crowd. They had confetti cannons as we cruised away. It was very lovely!

' src=

Huge crowd & great fireworks. Cobh (Cork is up the river), a small place, appeared to turn out in its entirety to say goodbye & went wild every time Mickey & friends waved from deck 4.

' src=

There was a big celebration in the afternoon along the waterfront – dancers, music, Disney characters, Disney movies and for the sail away there was a spectacular fireworks show. Liverpool knows how to throw a party!

' src=

Indeed it was the best farewell fireworks I have seen. Liverpool glowing.

Wow, fireworks too? That’s amazing!

' src=

The day 1 navigator mentions the connect at sea paid packages but does not mention a free 50 Mb package. Did they still have the free 50 Mb package on the first day onboard?

' src=

Did Disney provide a free shuttle service to Dublin Center?

I think it was Dublin rather than Disney, but yes the shuttle was free and regular.

' src=

Did have pirate night during the 7 night British Isles cruise.

What exactly was zootopia Mystery trek at open House at oceaneer lab on last day of the 7 night British isles cruise on saturday September 8th 2018. Please answer ASAP.

Liverpool is fast becoming one of Europe’s most popular city break destinations. After being awarded European Capital of Culture 2008, the city has moved into the sights of travellers and tourists from around the world. Already famous as the birthplace of The Beatles, the city’s other cultural assets are justifiably touted as some of the finest in Europe. With more theatres, museums and galleries than any other UK city outside London, Liverpool’s history as one of the world’s great ports has left a remarkable legacy of art and architecture that gives it a distinctive look and unique atmosphere. Liverpool is also one of the world’s great sporting cities with horse racing at Aintree and Haydock, 40 golf courses – seven of which are Championship standard, including the Royals Birkdale and Lytham, not to mention Liverpool and Everton FC. So if it’s Strawberry Fields, Premiership football or Europe’s finest culture you’re looking for, it has to be Liverpool.

Cork City is Ireland's third city (after Dublin and Belfast) and has always been an important seaport. It began on an island in the swampy estuary of the River Lee (the name Corcaigh means a marsh), and gradually climbed up the steep banks on either side. Today the river flows through Cork city in two main channels, so that you find yourself constantly crossing bridges. Some of the main streets are built over channels where ships nuzzled their anchor-chains a century ago. Along the South Mall, you will see large gateways at street level, under steps leading to a higher main door. These were once boathouses, when merchants arrived at their warehouses by water. As the hilly streets go up and down, so do the voices of the citizens. They have a characteristic sing-song cadence, beloved of national comedians, and Corkonians are regarded as the most talkative of all the Irish. St. Finbarr is the founder and patron saint. He founded a monastery in the seventh century where St. Finn Barre's Cathedral now stands, and it grew into an extensive and wealthy establishment. It attracted the attention of the Viking sea-pirates who raided and burned the infant city, but returned in later years to settle and trade. The Anglo-Norman invasion in 1172 resulted in both the Danish lords and local McCarthy chiefs having to submit to Henry II, but Cork has always had a reputation for independence and stubborn resistance: it came to be known as "Rebel Cork".

Portland/England

british isles cruise disney

The Isle of Portland juts out like a bird's beak into the English Channel but is not really an island, although it is only joined to the mainland by a narrow strip of land. The road is about two miles long and runs between Chesil Bank and the huge man-made naval harbour. The land is formed from a massive block of limestone rising from near sea level in the south to over 400 ft high in the north. Portland Castle is a fortress built by Henry VIII and lost amongst the naval buildings and a prison. Almost immediately the road went up a very steep hill to Verne Yeates with immense views of Chesil Bank and the coast as far as Lulworth. Portland has been inhabited since early times and traces of occupation have been dated back 7,000 years. The Romans knew it as 'Vindilis' and Thomas Hardy wrote about it as 'The Isle of Slingers' due to the fact that Portlanders used to throw stones to keep Kimberlins (strangers) away. The isle is an austere place, densely populated, with no trees and a lot of quarries, some still producing Portland Stone and some with dinosaur footprints in the stone. The island is a Royal Manor and many of the quarries are owned by the crown. Tout Quarry contains many sculptures, some of which are easy to see while others are much harder to find. The breakwater, which forms one of the largest harbours in the world (2130 acres), was finished in 1872. The twenty-three years of construction had cost the lives of twenty-two men. Most of the construction work was carried out by convicts, who had hewn stone to form the breakwater at a cost of £1,167,852. At the Bill of Portland there is a red and white lighthouse, built in 1906 and the Trinity House Tower that is now a bird observatory. In spite of the difficulty of actually standing up in the severe wind, several people had climbed onto Pulpit Rock. The 'Races', fast flowing currents, meet here and have been responsible for many disasters. The waves are spectacular.

A unique Disney experience: Here's what you can't miss on Disney Cruise Lines

D isney Cruise Line is synonymous with family vacations at sea, so you might think that every Disney cruise in 2024 will be a good choice for families. And having sailed on every one of Disney's cruise ships myself, I can say the simple answer is yes, that's absolutely true. But some Disney cruise experiences hold an extra special place in my family's heart, and they've made me realize that certain Disney cruises can go above and beyond even DCL's usual family-friendly standard.

I'm thinking about when we met Disney’s "Frozen" friends in person on a Norway sailing or laughed to tears over dinner with Crush the Sea Turtle ("cha dude!"), or completed a 5K race with my daughter on Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay . That's why my picks for the best Disney cruises for families in 2024 are all about these kinds of extra special experiences, the ones that aren't just the usual level of Disney cruise line magic but will elevate your family vacation into once-in-a-lifetime "cherished family memory" territory.

Find a deal: Kids sail free: 6 cruise lines that let kids cruise for free

Start the day smarter. Get all the news you need in your inbox each morning.

There will be no shortage of these kinds of opportunities on Disney Cruise Line (DCL) in 2024. From being among the first to visit Disney's brand-new private island destination to enjoying an immersive Pixar-themed day at sea to setting sail on the maiden voyage of Disney's newest ship , here are the Disney cruise experiences I think will go above and beyond in 2024.

1. Disney Magic to Lighthouse Point, DCL's newest private island destination

One thing my family looks forward to during any Disney cruise is a stop at DCL's private island, Castaway Cay. In 2024, Disney Cruise Line will unveil its second private island destination, Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point , on the island of Eleuthera in the Bahamas. And I can’t wait to see how they plan to outdo the already incredible Castaway Cay experience.

Family cruises: 7 best cruise lines for families (and their 12 most kid-friendly ships)

Similar to when Disney created its Aulani resort in Hawaii , Disney Imagineers have been working with local artists and cultural experts to design an authentic Bahamian island experience at Lighthouse Point. Curvilinear buildings are meant to evoke scattered seashells along the shore, and a Bahamian Art and Culture Pavilion will feature special programs and local artists that celebrate Bahama traditions.

A special preview cruise to Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point on the Disney Magic departs from Fort Lauderdale in June 2024.

2. Alaska and Australia cruises on the Disney Wonder in 2024

When my youngest daughter graduated from high school, my wife and I asked where she wanted to go for our family vacation to celebrate her milestone . Her top choice was Alaska. In the summer months, Disney Cruise Line positions one of its smaller ships, the Disney Wonder, out west so families can take weeklong sailings from Vancouver to the "Last Frontier." Along the way, you can experience majestic wildlife and stunning scenery while calling on Juneau, Skagway, Ketchikan, and glacier viewing along the Stikine Icecap.

No hidden costs: 7 best all-inclusive cruise lines in the world

But that's not all the Disney Wonder gets up to! In 2023, Disney also began offering Australia and New Zealand cruises onboard the ship, and that will continue in 2023 and 2024. Disney Cruise Line has announced a new season of sailings in the region from October 2024 through February 2025.

The Disney Wonder is one of DCL's original class of ships, and with a capacity of 2,713 passengers, it remains one of the line's most intimate vessels. That's a reason to love it. Both the Wonder and its sister ship, Disney Magic, are especially great Disney cruise options in 2024 if your family is new to cruising . Far from being a drawback, the smaller size makes it less likely to feel overwhelming to first-timers.

3. European vacations on the Disney Dream

In 2023, Disney Cruise Line sent the Disney Dream across the Atlantic for the first time. The ship will head back to Europe in 2024 with summer cruises in the Mediterranean, Greek Isles, British Isles, Iceland, and Norwegian fjords. These are the best 2024 Disney Cruises for experiencing new ports of call like Valencia, Spain; Haugesund, Norway; and Hamburg, Germany, along with three Mediterranean destinations (Catania, Italy; Kusadasi, Turkey; and Valletta, Malta) that Disney will visit for the first time since 2014.

Make memories: Why a Holland America heritage cruise Is perfect for a multigenerational family vacation

In June, the Disney Dream sails from Civitavecchia (Rome) with stops in Naples and three different Greek Islands, including Mykonos and Crete. In July, the ship transitions to northern European cruises, including a 12-night voyage departing from England (Southampton) on July 24, heading through the Norwegian fjords, three days in Iceland, and an overnight stay in Reykjavik before returning to Southampton.

My family sailed on Disney’s inaugural Norwegian fjords cruise in 2015, and it was hands down our best family vacation because of the Disney-specific experiences no other cruise line can offer, such as Anna and Elsa from "Frozen" posing for pictures at a Norwegian Village museum in Ålesund.

4. Disney Cruise Line's private island trifecta on the Disney Fantasy

Many fans of Disney Cruise Line’s private island get particularly excited when itineraries include a Castaway Cay "double dip," i.e., two stops at Castaway Cay. But in 2024, the Disney Fantasy ventures on a seven-night itinerary that calls on Disney’s private islands not once, not twice, but three times with a stop at Castaway Cay and two visits to the brand-new Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point.

Splash zone: 50 best cruise ship water parks and private islands for kids

I love Disney’s Castaway Cay and have enjoyed so many relaxing stops to the island. I especially remember learning the "stingray shuffle" and holding stingrays during Castaway Ray's Stingray Adventure. I love that this 2024 Disney cruise will give families plenty of time to explore Disney’s brand-new private island destination on the southernmost tip of Eleuthera without overlooking a day at the old favorite.

5. Disney Wish theme park and cruise vacation

The Disney Wish is DCL's newest ship (for now), debuting in July 2022 and offering three- and four-night cruises to the Bahamas from Port Canaveral, Florida . The close proximity of Port Canaveral to Walt Disney World makes it easy to combine an Orlando theme park vacation with a Disney Cruise.

Know before you go: 6 things you didn’t know you could do on a Disney Cruise

Disney land and sea vacations are the best of both worlds for families with theme park lovers who want to go, go, go, and other family members looking for a more laidback experience. My advice is to head to the theme parks first, get tired out from the walking, rides, and stimulation, and then sail off on a four-night cruise to decompress. My wife and I enjoyed the most expansive stateroom ever when we sailed on the Disney Wish last summer and it couldn't have been more relaxing.

6. Themed Cruises – Pixar, Marvel, and holidays

In January, I had the opportunity to experience Pixar Day at Sea , Disney Cruise Line’s newest themed cruise, on the Disney Fantasy. In my review for FamilyVacationist, I called it an " overflowing toy box of fun " and I'm excited for more families to experience it on a Disney cruise in 2024. The cruise was packed with so many Pixar character meets, themed-activities, special shows, foods, and treats that some of it spilled into additional days at sea. In 2024, Pixar Day at Sea returns to the Disney Fantasy on seven-night Caribbean sailings from January through March.

Set sail: These 6 cruise lines offer the best themed cruises

Disney's themed cruise days aren't limited to Pixar, either. There's a Marvel Day at Sea on five-night Disney Dream cruises departing Fort Lauderdale from January through March, and when the festive season rolls around most of the ships offer holiday sailings with Halloween on the High Seas and Very Merrytime cruises.

I was so impressed with the Halloween tree in the ship's atrium when my family sailed on a Halloween cruise. Over the course of the cruise, the tree "bloomed" with spooky Jack-o-lanterns. In addition, Disney characters were decked out in costumes, there was trick-or-treating, and other special activities. And of course Very Merrytime cruises have a tree-lighting ceremony, Mickey and Minnie’s Holiday Party, carolers, special drinks and treats, and appearances by the guest of honor for the cruise, Santa Claus.

7. Disney Treasure Sets Course for Adventure

Last but not least, Disney Treasure joins the Disney Cruise Line fleet with its maiden voyage on December 21, 2024. Adventure is the theme for Disney's sixth cruise ship with spaces and entertainment inspired by "Aladdin," "Coco," "Zootopia," "Jungle Cruise," even "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea."

Before you book: Everything you need to know about river cruises in the U.S.

As a fan of the Magic Kingdom’s Jungle Cruise ride and Skipper Canteen restaurant, I can’t wait to get immersed in the kitschy 1930s adventure vibe onboard the Disney Treasure. The ship will sail seven-night itineraries to the eastern and western Caribbean and have a theater-in-the-round restaurant at the Plaza de Coco as well as a cinematic dining experience at Worlds of Marvel. Because these are longer cruises than those available on DCL's other ship in the same class (Disney Wish), you can experience two distinct shows in each of these venues during a voyage.
