THE CELEBRATION TOUR UPDATED ITINERARY

Tuesday, August 15th, 2023. Excitement has been mounting with Madonna’s post that the North America rescheduled dates would be announced shortly. Today, Live Nation is pleased to confirm that most of the North America dates of Madonna’s Celebration Tour have been rescheduled and will take place immediately following the originally announced UK and Europe dates. Updated itinerary below. Tickets for the previously scheduled shows will be honored on the new dates. This includes all dates except Los Angeles and one date in New York due to a venue change, detailed below.  Getting all shows rescheduled was the number one priority. Unfortunately, due to scheduling conflicts a few shows noted below will be canceled. Madonna regrets the inconvenience to fans and hopes to make it up to those markets in the future. The Celebration Tour will officially kick off with four sold out shows in London this October, followed by shows across Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, Spain, Portugal, France, Germany, Italy, and the Netherlands throughout the remainder of 2023.  The North American leg will begin on December 13th in Brooklyn at Barclays Center. In New York, fans holding tickets to the previously scheduled Madison Square Garden concert on August 27th, 2023, will have an exclusive opportunity to purchase tickets to the newly added Barclays Center performance on Saturday, December 16th, 2023. Tickets for the original show at MSG will be automatically refunded to the original purchaser by Monday, August 28th. Ticketmaster will then provide all affected fans with a dedicated link and a unique code based on the quality of their previous seat locations to purchase tickets to the new date at Barclays Centre.  Advance sales start Tuesday, August 29th and run through Thursday, August 31st. Madonna performs at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto Jan. 11, 2024. Ricardo Gomes/Handout

At various times at Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena on Thursday, a capacity crowd saw an AIDS activist, a Budweiser-drinking cowgirl, a cone-bra eroticist, a guitar-wielding raggamuffin, a fighter in a silk boxing robe and a proud, catsuit-wearing mom.

Ladies and gentleman, I give you Madonna, Madonna, Madonna, Madonna, Madonna and [checking notes] Madonna. The above were some of the personas presented at the first of back-to-back concerts by the pop superstar, inimitable cultural figure and devoted provocateur born Madonna Louise Ciccone.

The 65-year-old icon is currently on her Celebration Tour, a retrospective spectacle covering a four-decade career. Not a standard greatest-hits victory lap, the 140-minute show is a dance-heavy jukebox bio-musical. Future Canadian stops include Montreal’s Bell Centre (Jan. 18 and 20) and Vancouver’s Rogers Arena (Feb. 21).

“If you wanna know about me,” she said at one point, “you gotta know all about me.” Madonna, of course, is an exhibitionist. In other words, buckle up.

The concert began with an appearance from RuPaul’s Drag Race winner Bob the Drag Queen, who served as an emcee and wore an elaborate gown either inspired by Marie Antoinette – queen knows queen – or by Madonna herself at the 1990 MTV Awards. We were told that in 1978, Madonna arrived in New York as a 19 year old with $35 to her name.

She arrived on stage at Scotiabank Arena wearing all black and a halo to sing Nothing Really Matters , a song about looking back at one’s younger self with age-won wisdom. Standing alone on a multi-level circular stage, she looked like a piece of jewellery on display.

Now chicly scruffy in chains, corset and a short, black skirt, she sang Into the Groove as dancers surrounded her. “That’s right Toronto,” she said after, “I still got it.”

That was in doubt. After her hospitalization for a bacterial infection in June, the initial North American leg of the tour was postponed. Any lasting effects of her illness were not in evidence on stage. While she did dance less than she has on past tours, the singer traversed the three catwalks in a variety of challenging footwear.

There was no live band – the music, with a few exceptions, was pre-recorded. Madonna did strap on a black Les Paul electric guitar for 1983′s Burning Up . Power chords and amplifier feedback were heard. Madonna said she had debuted the song at New York’s long-gone punk club CBGB.

In general, the material was presented in forms that were altered – stripped down here, club-remixed there – from the memorable recorded versions. This was invention, not nostalgia.

The 1986 hit Open Your Heart used the same peep-show conceit as the original video. It is pure post-ABBA pop. As the concert progressed, the songs moved from bubble gum to material that marked Madonna as an innovative pop artist with a shark-like need to constantly move forward.

Live to Tell told the story of the AIDS crisis, which touched Madonna personally. Suspended screens displayed the faces of victims including filmmaker Howard Brookner, artist friend Martin Burgoyne, tennis legend Arthur Ashe and fashionista Tina Chow. More and more faces filled the screens, representing the epidemic’s relentless advance and staggering toll. A banner at the end of the song read, “In loving memory of all the best lights we lost to AIDS.”

There were other tributes: a Prince clone appeared at the end of Like a Prayer and a silhouetted Michael Jackson danced with a Madonna-like shadow to Billie Jean and Like a Virgin . The Jackson segment seemed like an odd choice, but, then, where others might not stand by the King of Pop today, the Queen of Pop deliberately chose to.

Nepotism happened – when teenaged daughter Mercy James took to a grand piano for Bad Girl , when teenaged son David Banda strummed an acoustic guitar to Mother and Father and La Isla Bonita , when preteen daughter Estere breakdanced and struck poses like a show-stealing champ on the catwalk during Vogue .

A punchy Erotica was choreographed for a boxing ring. Late show highlights included a thumping Ray of Light and a defiant Bitch I’m Madonna .

Some fans in the audience were old enough to have attended the Blonde Ambition Tour at Rogers Centre (then SkyDome) on May 29, 1990, when local authorities suggested that Madonna could risk arrest for her immoral performance. Madonna walked on stage, called Toronto a “fascist state” and didn’t tone down the show. (Nothing happened.)

She didn’t show fear then, and she didn’t show any at Scotiabank Arena, where Justify My Love was gloriously orgiastic and female dancers were topless for Hung Up . Apparently Madonna is not afraid of flying either: She hovered over the crowd in a box (while sensibly tethered to a railing, mind you).

During a costume change, we heard a snippet of her Billboard Women in Music speech from 2016. “The most controversial thing I’ve ever done is to stick around,” she said. A supernova who never left, Madonna recently dropped Gloria Gaynor’s I Will Survive from her set list. At this stage in her career, that anthem seems superfluous; its truth, self-evident.

Who Is Opening Madonna’s ‘The Celebration Tour?’

Flisadam Pointer

Madonna’s miraculous medical recovery brought a new meaning to The Celebration Tour’s name. Initially, it was a party to honor her musical legacy as she performed some of her biggest hits, including “ Like A Virgin .” For the singer and ticketholders, it’s a gathering to show gratitude for life. So, who’s the lucky entertainer taking the stage at The Celebration Tour as the official opener?

Who is Opening Madonna’s The Celebration Tour ?

Instead of tapping another musician as the opening act, Madonna found someone who could do it all. The official opener of her The Celebration Tour is activist, recording artist, comedian, media personality, and drag performer Bob The Drag Queen. The Columbus, Georgia native is wildly known as the season eight winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race reality competition show. Since snatching the crown, Bob has starred in several comedy specials, including Woke Man in a Dress. Bob co-hosted HBO’s We’re Here alongside Eureka O’Hara and Shangela Laquifa Wadley.

Back in March, Bob was added to the tour by Madonna to protest Nashville’s anti-drag legislation . “The oppression of the LGBTQ+ is not only unacceptable and inhumane; it’s creating an unsafe environment; it makes America a dangerous place for our most vulnerable citizens, especially trans women of color. Also, these so-called laws to protect our children are unfounded and pathetic. Anyone with half a brain knows not to f*ck with a drag queen. Bob and I will see you from the stage in Nashville, where we will celebrate the beauty that is the queer community,” wrote Madonna in a statement.

Unfortunately, Madonna fell ill shortly after, and the tour was ultimately postponed. Now, she’s back on the road, and so is Bob.

Anycia Isn’t Letting A Crown Change Her On ‘Princess Pop That’

Madonna will reportedly announce Tuesday that she is embarking on a 40th anniversary tour that will include her first performances in Canada in eight years.

According to sources, the Celebration Tour will see the 64-year-old performing her biggest hits at stadiums and arenas around the world, including multiple-night runs at venues in some major cities.

Madonna has not played Canada since 2015’s Rebel Heart Tour , which kicked off with a pair of concerts in Montreal and went on to make stops in Quebec City, Toronto, Edmonton and Vancouver.

The pop icon’s most recent tour, Madame X , was more like short residencies in cities like New York, Chicago, Miami Beach, London and Paris. It was plagued by cancellations , including more than a dozen blamed on hip and knee injuries .

“I was in tears from the pain of my injuries,” Madonna shared in a message on Instagram in December 2019. “I want to say how deeply sorry I am to all my fans.”

At other shows, delayed start times led to some fans taking legal action .

Last August, Madonna released Finally Enough Love: 50 Number Ones . Her music, though, has been overshadowed in recent years by bizarre behaviour on social media – including licking water from a dog bowl , sharing misinformation about COVID-19 and continuing to  alter her appearance .

Reps for Madonna have not addressed multiple reports about a tour announcement.

Almost one year ago, Madonna took to Instagram to confirm that auditions for her forthcoming biopic are underway. “Auditions for my film are a surreal experience,” she captioned the clip. “But I’m enjoying dancing to the Classics!!”

Madonna  said in 2020  that she will direct the story of her life. “I want to convey the incredible journey that life has taken me on as an artist, a musician, a dancer — a human being, trying to make her way in this world,” Madonna  said in a statement at the time .

“The focus of this film will always be music. Music has kept me going and art has kept me alive. There are so many untold and inspiring stories and who better to tell it than me. It’s essential to share the roller coaster ride of my life with my voice and vision.”

Montreal fans of the Queen of Pop will have to wait a little longer to get into the groove as the singer is postponing her upcoming world tour due to an illness.

Madonna has two stops in Montreal on Aug. 19 and 20 at the Bell Centre for her "Celebration Tour," which was supposed to start July 15 in Vancouver.

On Wednesday, her manager, Guy Oseary, posted a message on his Instagram account saying she "developed a serious bacterial infection which led to a several day stay in the ICU" on Saturday.

A full recovery is expected, he said, but she remains under medical care.

"At this time we need to pause all commitments, which includes the tour. We will share more details with you as soon as we have them, including a new start date for the tour in for rescheduled shows," Oseary wrote.

Tickets to Madonna's Montreal shows quickly sold out after going on sale Jan. 20. Some of them went as high as $6,000 .

Madonna says her kids' 'enthusiasm' kept her going while on tour after 'near death' hospitalization

celebration tour madonna montreal

Madonna may be the reigning Queen of Pop, but she's a mother first.

As the “Vogue” singer approaches her 80th show on her “Celebration” tour, she took a moment to appreciate how much her six children have helped her get to this point after being hospitalized last year before the tour began.

“I need to acknowledge my incredibly talented children who carried me through,” Madonna wrote on her Instagram page on Thursday, adding that each of them has brought “their own unique talent to the stage.” She also wrote that their “enthusiasm kept me going.”

  • Download the CTV News App for breaking news alerts and video on all the top stories

Her post included a series of photos of her children performing with her on stage as well as some behind-the-scenes moments.

Madonna's children figure prominently in her “Celebration” tour. Her daughter Mercy James, 18, plays the piano, delivering a beautiful mid-show rendition of her mother's song “Bad Girl” off the 1992 album “Erotica.” David Banda, her 18-year-old son, plays guitar in the show, while her 11-year-old twins Stella and Estere act as DJ and runway model during the “Vogue” sequence.

In Madonna's last tour, 2019's “Madame X,” her oldest daughter Lourdes Leon appeared as the sole dancer in a video centrepiece set to the singer's 1998 classic track “Frozen.” She also shares son Rocco Ritchie, 23, with director Guy Ritchie.

“Rehearsals began over a year ago with almost a 2-month break waiting for me recover from a near-death experience,” she wrote on Thursday. “They never stopped practicing. They never stopped cheering me on and supporting me.”

Madonna said her kids all continued going to school while they pushed through rehearsals, an achievement she is “so very proud of.” Also on Thursday, David and Mercy posted to their respective Instagram Stories in what appeared to be graduation garb, marking their graduation from high school.

“If all of them choose something different later in life, they will never forget this year of blood, sweat, and tears,” Madonna wrote at the end of her post this week. “Nor will I.”

Last June, Madonna's friend and long-time manager Guy Oseary announced she was in the ICU after developing a “serious bacterial infection.” CNN later reported that the pop icon was released from the hospital days later, recovering at home.

She kicked off her “Celebration” tour in October in London after a delay due to the health scare.

  • Follow the CTV News channel on WhatsApp

During a December tour stop, she told the audience that she was put into “an induced coma” while hospitalized and that she “pulled through” by thinking, “I've got to be there for my children. I have to survive for them.”

Madonna will perform her 80th “Celebration” tour show on Friday in Mexico City.

Madonna is wrapping up her current concert tour over the next few days with a trilogy of shows in Mexico City. Prices have been climbing over recent days, so you'll have to be sharp if you want to buy Madonna tickets for these dates while you can for the The Celebration Tour.

Before she takes her final bow of the Celebration Tour concert series in April 2024, Madonna will have performed 52 shows across 27 cities in the US, Canada, and Mexico. While many dates earlier in the tour were available for under $100, these final dates will cost you at least $245 at the time of writing. Still, it's a few grand cheaper than the Swifties have been paying this year.

How to buy tickets for Madonna's 2024 concert tour

Madonna tickets have been on sale for a while now, so all original ones via Ticketmaster are long gone.

However, Madonna tickets are still available through verified resale vendors like StubHub and Vivid Seats .

How much do Madonna tickets cost?

The price for standard original tickets to Madonna's 2024 tour varies depending on date, location, and demand. For example, concert dates in major cities like New York City tend to be more expensive.

Standard original tickets still available on Ticketmaster a few weeks ago  were comparable to prices on verified resale platforms. However, the remaining original tickets have all been snapped up though, so resale vendors are your only hope now.

The Celebration Tour originally had VIP tickets available for premium prices. Madonna's 2024 concert series had The Immaculate VIP Package, Iconic VIP Package), You Can Dance Premium Ticket Package, and Where's The Party Premium Ticket Package. The prices for original tickets for each package on Ticketmaster started at $1,750, $895, $545, and $475, respectively.

Who is opening for Madonna's tour?

Madonna has not announced any additional opening acts for her 2024 concert dates. However, the artist is joined by Bob the Drag Queen, a special guest in each of her shows, who helps introduce the concert and interacts with Madonna as the emcee.

Madonna's 2024 tour began with the international leg in Europe, so the only remaining concerts in The Celebration Tour outside the United States are in Mexico.

In April, she'll have five performances in Mexico City, where she'll take her final bow of The Celebration Tour on April 26.

Madonna breaks down in tears during one of her concerts, what happened in Mexico?

Madonna was moved to tears by the affection of her fans.

M adonna is currently on her Celebration World tour and one of her stops is Mexico City , and as many legendary singers such as James Hetfield from Metallica, Paul McCartney, and David Gahan of Depeche Mode , there is no doubt that the Mexican public is one of the most affectionate to great stars who perform on stages in Mexico, and proof of this what Madonna experienced during her most recent performance.

Madonna has an emotional moment during her concert in Mexico

The "Queen of Pop" arrived a week before the first of her five concerts, to enjoy the most emblematic places in Mexico City, such as the Casa Azul, the house where Frida Kahlo used to live.

During the second performance at Palacio de los Deportes , Madonna was so moved that she could not hold back her tears.

Before starting a part of the concert where she sings a song with an acoustic guitar, the Mexican audience cheered and applauded the singer of La Isla Bonita, who thanked her fans for the gesture, while wiping away her tears.

Immediately, fans of Madonna took out their phones and began recording the moment and posting it online, and spread like wildfire.

Mexico City joins Inglewood and New York to be one of the few cities with 5 concert dates, followed by London and Paris which have 4, and most major cities with 2, including, , San Francisco, Chicago, Montreal, Washington D.C., Cologne and many more.

Madonna has not been the only foreign artist who has been moved to tears as musicians such as Paul McCartney and Rosalia have accepted that the energy in the Mexican venues is out of this world.

"I was in Mexico City, singing ' Hello, Goodbye', which is not a very sentimental song by any means... but the audience was so fabulous. I felt like a wave of heat full of emotions, I remember having to hold back tears because of that feeling from the Mexicans ," McCartney told CBS during an interview.
