Behemoth, Watain + More Confirmed for 2012 Decibel Magazine Tour

Decibel Magazine have just announced the formation of one of the most evil tours in recent memory. North America will see Watain, the Devil's Blood, In Solitude and the triumphant return of Behemoth after frontman Nergal's battle with leukemia.

Sweden is arguably the reigning champion of extreme European music (sorry, Norway), boasting an incredible heritage of metal constantly pushing the boundaries of creativity, atmosphere and brutality. With that in mind, Decibel assembled the heavily-Swedish lineup for the 2012 Decibel Magazine Tour.

Decibel editor-in-chief Albert Mudrian wrote about what the hellacious tour is all about. “Part of Decibel’s mission is to push the boundaries of what a metal publication is capable of doing,” says Mudrian. “By bringing bands like Watain, the Devil’s Blood and In Solitude to larger stages in the U.S, we create an additional vehicle to help raise their profiles. It’s another way to infect the mainstream with the power of the underground.”

“It is a joint force of artistic adversity and sinister creativity,” added Watain frontman Erik Danielsson, “which makes me think of the glorious days when bands like Venom, Metallica , Exodus and Slayer toured together like a great middle finger raised towards their sheep-minded contemporaries.”

Behemoth frontman and metal hero Nergal also shared his excitement: “Considering the fact that we’ll be sharing the stage with the most evil and uncompromising bands around -- Watain, the Devil’s Blood and In Solitude -- this already makes it a legendary bill that you can’t miss out on!” promises Nergal. “Watch out. We won’t show up -- we will ARRIVE with all the strength and might!”

Tour dates and ticket info will become available on the Decibel Magazine Tour website on Jan. 24.

The highly anticipated, Decibel Magazine Tour, came through Chicago at The Bottom Lounge. The tour featured performances by Behemoth, The Devil’s Blood, and In Solitude. You can check out our review after the break.

Sometimes people like to brag about the scary or strange things they do to celebrate Friday the 13th. Me? I got to see the Decibel Magazine tour with In Solitude, The Devil’s Blood, and Polish death metal legend Behemoth at The Bottom Lounge in Chicago. It was an intense evening of nostalgic black/heavy metal, ritualistic lyrics, and incense.

To kick off the tour package were the Swedish heavy metal group In Solitude. The thing that stood out to me the most about these guys was the feeling of being thrown back to 1981. The leather pants, the boots, the bare chests and leather vests… Did I mention the leather? Sounding like if Diamond Head and Merciful Fate had an evil love child, these guys rocked out on stage hard and didn’t stop all night. Nothing about them was tame as they powered through their entire set, hair flailing and singer Pelle Ahman’s voice sky high.

Next up were the Dutch occult rock band The Devil’s Blood. Probably one of the more interesting acts I have ever seen, the music was a moderate tempo and mostly groove/rock oriented and whenever vocalist Farida Lemouchi was not singing her head was tilted and eyes were rolled back. The best parts in their set were the Maiden-esque three-part guitar harmonies that littered every song. With their lyrical content deeply rooted in occult and Satanic themes, they were a great primer for what was to come next.

Behemoth is one of the heaviest bands that I have ever seen live. The drums, guitars, and vocals are pummeling on the albums as it is, but a live setting brings out the power and energy this band puts out more than anything. Speaking of power and energy, vocalist/guitarist Nergal was definitely operating at 100% this evening, even after the battle for his life that began only about a year earlier. The entire band was moving on the stage and windmilling the entire set with their demonic corpse painted faces and probably the most intense light show I had ever seen going on behind them.

The entire crowd left the venue that evening feeling a little more evil than before. The nostalgia of the earlier bands, the leather and cut-denim jackets with Venom patches, and the intensity and brutality of the mighty Behemoth made this night of the most memorable I have ever had. What did you do for Friday the 13th in 2012?

North America’s premier heavy metal magazine is launching the maiden edition of its annual earth-scorching tour this April. The inaugural Decibel Magazine Tour will feature not just the long-awaited stateside return of Polish blackened death metal overlords Behemoth, but support from Swedish black metal provocateurs Watain, Dutch prog mystics the Devil’s Blood and Swedish old-school occultists In Solitude. Beginning in April and laying waste through a gargantuan 26-date run, the Decibel Magazine Tour (presented by Metal Blade Records, IndieMerchStore.com, FYE, ESP Guitars and Good Fight Entertainment) not only offers four diverse European artists hand-picked by the magazine, but doubles as Behemoth’s first U.S. tour since vocalist/guitarist Adam “Nergal” Darski’s well-documented battle with—and triumph over—leukemia. Gruesome visual evidence of this tour package is forthcoming: We went all the way to Sweden to capture the frontmen and women of all four bands for our special Decibel Magazine Tour cover story, streeting in April. “Considering the fact that we’ll be sharing the stage with the most evil and uncompromising bands around—Watain, the Devil’s Blood and In Solitude—this already makes it a legendary bill that you can’t miss out on!” promises Nergal. “Watch out. [Review] A Few Simple Reasons Why You Have To Go To The 2012 Decibel Magazine Tour

' src=

With all the metal tours going on throughout the year, it’s hard to determine which are the ones that are worth your time. After all, you can’t be expected to attend them all, right? Well, BD’s Lauren Taylor just got back from checking out the 2012 Decibel Magazine Tour, which features In Solitude , The Devil’s Blood , Watain , and headliners Behemoth . Check below for her thoughts on the show!

The average fan generally does not receive an epic, theatrical stage show from their favorite musician. Luckily black metal fans are blessed with not only insane music – but amazing visuals to accompany it. Monday, April 16th marked the first show of the Decibel Magazine Tour that Swedish band Watain performed – having been forced to pull out of the first four shows due to delays in obtaining visas. The band is known for a stage emblazoned with candles and rotting, severed animal heads on stakes. Perhaps due to the delays of entering the US, their set was subdued with only skulls and inverted crosses yet their costuming still remained brilliant. Singer Erik Danielsson crept the stage like a zombie on a nautical adventure through hell as they pounded out tuneage.

Headliners Behemoth took the stage with the intense blastbeats of Ov Fire and the Void shortly after. If you’ve never had the pleasure, lead singer Nergal (aka Adam Darkski) – who battled leukemia a few years back and was thankfully saved with a bone marrow transplant – alone is worth the show. He is quite the ominous creature. Picture Pinhead having a love child with a Polish businessman and raising said child in the Thunderdome. I mean that with the utmost respect. He is incredible to look at.

While the music is entertaining in the pitch dark, the theatrics of this genre, again, add an element that everyday Joe cannot comprehend. Fans should rejoice in this gift we are given. I know I did. I honestly had an epiphany of how grand life is during Watain’s epic Waters of Ain . Seeing a sea of individuals in the harmonious union that is black metal. With a mindblowing lineup of Behemoth, Watain, The Devil’s Blood, and In Solitude, the Decibel Magazine Tour of 2012 is not to be missed.

“He Walks By Night” – Listen to a Brand New John Carpenter Song NOW!

' src=

It’s a new day, and you’ve got new John Carpenter to listen to. John Carpenter, Daniel Davies and Cody Carpenter have released the new track He Walks By Night this morning, the second single off their upcoming album Lost Themes IV: Noir , out May 3 on Sacred Bones Records.

Lost Themes IV: Noir  is the latest installment in a series that sees Carpenter releasing new music for John Carpenter movies that don’t actually exist. The first  Lost Themes  was released in 2015, followed by  Lost Themes II  in 2016 and  Lost Themes III: Alive After Death  in 2021.

Sacred Bones previews, “It’s been a decade since John Carpenter recorded the material that would become Lost Themes , his debut album of non-film music and the opening salvo in one of Hollywood’s great second acts. Those vibrant, synth-driven songs, made in collaboration with his son Cody Carpenter and godson Daniel Davies, kickstarted a musical renaissance for the pioneering composer and director. With Lost Themes IV: Noir , they’ve struck gold again, this time mining the rich history of the film noir genre for inspiration.

“Since the first Lost Themes , John has referred to these compositions as “soundtracks for the movies in your mind.” On the fourth installment in the series, those movies are noirs. Like the film genre they were influenced by, what makes these songs “noirish” is sometimes slippery and hard to define, and not merely reducible to a collection of tropes. The scores for the great American noir pictures were largely orchestral, while the Carpenters and Davies work off a sturdy synth-and-guitar backbone.

“The trio’s free-flowing chemistry means Lost Themes IV: Noir runs like a well-oiled machine—the 1951 Jaguar XK120 Roadster from Kiss Me Deadly , perhaps, or the 1958 Plymouth Fury from John’s own Christine . It’s a chemistry that’s helped power one of the most productive stretches of John’s creative life, and Noir proves that it’s nowhere near done yielding brilliant results.”

You can pre-save  Lost Themes IV: Noir right now! And listen to the new track below…

Sixth Annual Decibel Magazine Tour Announced

Since its inception in 2004, Decibel has redefined what a metal magazine can accomplish. From authoritative books and celebrated festivals to the revitalization of the classic flexi disc format and the creation of the renowned Decibel Hall of Fame series, we continue to push far beyond the accepted boundaries of print. The annual Decibel Magazine Tour -- launched in 2012 -- may very well be the finest of its ventures. For the past six years, ambitious curation has unified artists from far reaches of the extreme universe who would otherwise never have the opportunity to tour North America together. The lineup for the 2017 Decibel Magazine Tour continues that proud tradition, as German thrash metal founders Kreator align with Florida death metal legends Obituary, old-school Ohio brutalizers Midnight and celebrated progressive death prodigies Horrendous (with regional openers in select markets to be announced next year). Of 2017’s four featured acts, two will release new LPs in 2017 to coincide with the Decibel Tour: Kreator, with their fourteenth full-length album, Gods of Violence; and Obituary, with tenth effort Obituary. The latter have already been honored with an authoritative Hall of Fame feature on 1990’s landmark album Cause of Death. In 2015, Horrendous took home Decibel’s Album of the Year honor for their Anareta release. Additionally, Kreator, Midnight and Horrendous have each recorded and released exclusive tracks via the Decibel Flexi Series, and Obituary will soon join them, recording a flexi track that will appear in the annual Decibel Tour issue of the magazine that hits stands March 2017. Cannibal Corpse announced for 8th annual Decibel Magazine Tour with Morbid Angel, Immolation, Blood Incantation and Necrot

decibel magazine tour 2012

- November 15th, 2018 –

Since its launch in 2012, the annual Decibel Magazine Tour’s ambitious curation has unified artists from around the extreme universe who would otherwise never have the opportunity to tour together. The lineup for the 2019 Decibel Magazine Tour once again breaks new ground, as legendary death metallers Cannibal Corpse and Morbid Angel join forces for the first time ever in America to co-headline the winter tour. Rising Bay Area brutalizers Necrot and space-obsessed Denver death dealers Blood Incantation round out this once-in-a-lifetime bill. New York death metal icons Immolation will join the final week of the tour as main support to Morbid Angel , as Cannibal Corpse exit the tour after the New York City date.

“We’re really looking forward to our second appearance on the Decibel Tour; they always put together a killer line up and this time is no exception,” says Cannibal Corpse bassist Alex Webster. “We’re particularly excited to be hitting the road with our friends Morbid Angel . In fact, this will be the first time we’ve toured together in the USA.”

“Everyone here in the Morbid Angel camp are stoked to do this tour with Cannibal Corpse ,” says Morbid Angel ‘s bassist/vocalist Steve Tucker. “To celebrate, Morbid Angel will be performing a mean-ass set of songs that will cover the entirety of our years of kicking ass.”

“We will be adding some of the older songs back to our set,” assures Morbid Angel founder Trey Azagthoth. “See you all there.”

Presented by Metal Blade Records, and sponsored by Silver Lining Music, Tankcrimes, Dark Descent Records and Nuclear Blast America, the Decibel Magazine Tour is once again poised to be the heavy metal tour of the winter.

Tickets for the 2019 Decibel Magazine Tour go on sale Friday, November 16 at 10 AM local time and can be found at decibelmagazine.com/tour . All dates and venues are below.

Decibel Magazine Tour 2019 w/ Cannibal Corpse (Feb. 17-Mar. 7), Morbid Angel, Immolation (Mar. 8-Mar. 14), Blood Incantation, Necrot Feb. 17 – San Antonio, TX – Alamo Music Hall Feb. 19 – Tucson, AZ - Club Xs Feb. 20 – San Diego, CA – The Observatory Feb. 21 – Los Angeles, CA – The Fonda Theater Feb. 22 – Santa Ana, CA – The Observatory Feb. 23 – San Francisco, CA – The Regency Ballroom Feb. 25 – Portland, OR – Roseland Ballroom Feb. 26 – Seattle, WA – Showbox Market Mar. 1 – Denver, CO – The Oriental Theater Mar. 2 – Kansas City, MO – The Truman Mar. 3 – Minneapolis, MN – Skyway Theater Mar. 4 – Chicago, IL – The Concord Mar. 7 – New York, NY – Playstation Theater Mar. 8 – Philadelphia, PA – TLA Mar. 9 – Worcester, MA – Palladium Mar. 10 – Baltimore, MD – Baltimore Soundstage Mar. 11 – Raleigh, NC – Lincoln Theater Mar. 13 – Atlanta, GA – The Masquerade Mar. 14 – Tampa, FL – Orpheum

Cannibal Corpse will be touring in support of their latest album, Red Before Black . Many words come to mind when you hear the name Cannibal Corpse , but one truly defines the soon-to-be thirty-year death metal veterans: Unstoppable. Produced by Erik Rutan ( Hate Eternal, Goatwhore ), Red Before Black serves to not only reiterate this but to once more raise the stakes, making it very clear who sets the standard when it comes to always compelling music that is equally brutal and complex. Moreover, the band have pushed themselves again, ensuring that it stands out from their catalog. “Throughout our career we’ve tried to improve the precision of both our musical execution and our album production, while still maintaining full-on aggression. ‘ Red Before Black ‘ continues in that direction, but might go even further on the aggressive side of things. It’s definitely precise, but it has a rawness to it that goes beyond anything we’ve done recently,” asserts bassist Alex Webster. “We really worked super hard crafting these songs, practicing them, and getting them where we wanted to be more so than on any of our previous albums,” adds drummer Paul Mazurkiewicz. “And as Alex said, musically I think it’s the most raw sound we’ve had – and at the same time I think it’s our most focused, tightest and catchiest record.”

IN WINE COUNTRY - SWING LIKE A PRO November 2008

SANTA CRUZ SENTINEL June 2004

Soquel's Nate Smith credits coach Janet Coles with fixing his swing Smith admits he was down during his fall season as a freshman. Having played both golf and baseball during the spring as a Stevenson senior, his swing was out of whack, and prevented him from cracking Duke’s traveling squad.

So when the Blue Devils were on the road, Smith headed to the driving range and worked on the things he retained from his swing coach Janet Coles, a teacher at Quail Lodge in Carmel who made all 15 cuts when she competed in the Women’s U.S. Open.” . . .

Golf for Women Top 50 Teachers & Their Top Tips The editors of Golf For Women proudly present the fifth annual list of the Top 50 female teachers in the country. To rank among the Top 50 Teachers, an instructor must have at least 10 years' teaching experience and be either LPGA or PGA Class-A certified.

We look for teachers who have been nationally recognized by their peers, who offer original programs for women golfers of all levels and who have competitive playing experience.

A Top 50 Teacher readily adapts her instruction methods to her students' needs, asking questions about their goals, observing their strengths and limitations, enhancing the former and minimizing the latter. . .

Lost in Translation? Golf is filled with swing lingo that can confuse even the most seasoned veteran. here's your guide to dubious terms such as "shanking" and "skulling" and what they really mean.

“Students come to me all the time and tell me their friends -- and even their teachers -- are critiquing their games with technical terms they don't understand. Often they're too embarrassed or intimidated to ask for an explanation. And it doesn't just happen to recreational players. When I was competing on the LPGA Tour, my teacher told me I was an "under-over" swinger. I even described my swing that way to other people. The only problem? I had no idea what it meant! (Now I know that it means my club was under the ideal path in the downswing, which made me flip my hands over through impact, causing a hook.) Here are some of the more common swing-problem terms, what they mean and the drills to correct them.” . . . .

Music | google, sap america trim dozens of bay area jobs as tech layoffs widen, music | review: taylor swift triumphs with epic concert performance at levi’s stadium, taylor swift kicks off two-night stand at levi’s stadium.

SWIFTIE CLARA — Taylor Swift’s fingers danced across the keyboard of a faux moss-covered piano, crooning through the ballad “Champagne Problems” in the midst of a bizarrely intriguing fairytale stage set, as a two-thirds-full moon hung in the sky and 58,000 fans sang along with her every word.

She softly brought the number to a close, breaking a mesmerizing lyrical spell of heartbreak and anguish, and then took a moment to bask in the towering applause from the capacity crowd on Friday night (July 28) at Levi’s Stadium in “Swiftie Clara” (the name that the City of Santa Clara has officially — and temporarily — adopted in honor of the pop star’s two concerts at the venue ).

Yet, the moment lingered far longer than expected, as chants of “Taylor! Taylor! Taylor!” echoed through the house of the San Francisco 49ers, leaving the star a bit shaken, to the point where she looked like she might shed a tear at the unbridled display of love.

“This is amazing. What are you doing?” the pop star responded in disbelief. “That was the most generous reaction to a sad, little piano song.”

You want to talk about generous? Consider that Swift — the biggest star in the pop music universe, with pretty much zero left to prove — delivered a mammoth, curfew-shattering 3½-hour performance that included nearly four dozen songs. Now, that’s generous — and amazing, especially since she surely could’ve cut both those figures in half and still delivered a show that would’ve greatly pleased fans.

Yet, this show isn’t like others. It’s part of the Eras Tour, where Swift is supporting not just one but four new (or newish) albums — 2019’s “Lover,” 2020’s “Folklore” and “Evermore” and 2022’s “Midnights.” (And that’s not counting the three so-called “Taylor’s Version” reissues of her older records.)

The show is organized by album (or era, if you will), with Swift performing a batch of tunes from one particular album and then moving onto the next. It doesn’t move chronologically, but rather zigzags back and forth through the years, with different sets and wardrobes coming into play with each era.

Swift kicked off the show in “Lover” territory, sounding great as she performed a half-dozen numbers — “Miss Americana & the Heartbreak Prince,” “Cruel Summer,” “The Man,” “You Need to Calm Down,” “Lover” and “The Archer” — from that 2019 chart-topping album.

Swift — who also had been made honorary mayor by the City of Santa Clara/Swiftie Clara — seemed to draw energy from the fans, who sang along to every number and were basically on their feet throughout the entire epic set.

“Santa Clara, California, you are making me feel incredible right now,” said Swift, who was set to perform a second sold-out show at Levi’s on Saturday.

Working in front of a massive video screen, which basically ran the entire width of the football field, Swift boogied along to her live band, joined forces with her backing vocalists and high-stepped it with a number of dancers as she moved through both new and old albums.

She’d venture as far back as her sophomore full-length — 2008’s diamond-certified “Fearless” — for two of the best songs of the night, “Love Story” and “You Belong With Me.” Yet, the newer albums received the most attention, with both “Folklore” and ‘Midnights” warranting seven songs each in the ample setlist.

“It feels like forever since I’ve been able to play a show in the Bay Area,” she noted as moved into “Evermore” material. “It’s been five years.”

Swift was still going strong as she approached the venue’s 11 p.m. weekend curfew , having just finished up a great set of “1989” songs — including “Blank Space,” “Bad Blood” and “Shake It Off.” As the clock ticked past the curfew, Swift performed her two surprise songs — which change from concert to concert. This time around, the singer was joined by frequent collaborator Aaron Dessner for the acoustic-guitar-driven “Right Where You Left Me” and then performed a solo piano rendition of “Castles Crumbling,” marking the first time Swift had played that song in concert.

Swift finished up the show right around 11:38 p.m., having given the 58,000 fans in attendance a night truly worth remembering for eras to come. So far, no repercussions have come from the city of Santa Clara for breaking the 11 p.m. curfew — and Michelle Templeton, a spokeswoman for the city, said no noise complaints had been filed with Santa Clara’s police department about Friday’s concert.

Announcing the Decibel Magazine Tour 2014 Lineup!

With two triumphant star-studded national tours under our bullet belt, Decibel Magazine is raising the (bloody) stakes on our hotly anticipated third cross-country domination. This spring, we’re proud to bring you the reanimation of death metal demigods Carcass alongside melodeath powerhouse the Black Dahlia Murder , technical death metal heroes Gorguts and emerging death/thrash squad Noisem . The third time’s the harm, as Carcass—the Liverpool legends responsible for Surgical Steel , our number one album of 2013—embark upon their first sustained domestic tour in five years. Presented by Nuclear Blast, Peavey, Metal Blade, IndieMerchstore.com, Season of Mist and Lace Music, the 2014 Decibel Magazine Tour will fester across North America for 21 putrefying dates, once again seamlessly integrating the past, present and future of extreme music.

Ever-acerbic Carcass frontman Jeff Walker finds it difficult to contain his enthusiasm. “This is possibly the unsexiest Decibel Tour lineup yet,” he quips. “We’re all bringing the ‘girth’ back to the U.S., along with gray hair and sensible footwear. But it’s the music that matters, right? Just close your eyes and think of England. If that fails, think of Tampa.”

Black Dahlia Murder frontman Trevor Strand is a longtime Carcass superfan, so much so that he has the coolest tattoo ever: surgical instruments from the cover of the 1992 Tools of the Trade EP: “We are absolutely thrilled to be a part of this amazing tour. I will do my best to play it cool in the presence of such great and influential musicians who I have worshiped since the seventh grade—but I can’t guarantee anything. We in the Dahlia camp are elated to have been considered, and vow to do our best to impress. Nothing less for the combined might of Carcass and Gorguts!”

Luc Lemay of Canadian technical death metal institution Gorguts can’t wait to bring songs from 2013 comeback sensation Colored Sands to the stage. “Since the first day I discovered Decibel , I always saw them like an institution,” he enthuses. “So, when I got the news that we were offered to be part of their annual tour, I felt totally honored and excited as hell! It will be amazing to share the stage with Carcass, the Black Dahlia Murder and Noisem to perform our new music every night!”

As for Baltimore death-thrash upstarts Noisem—who blew minds with brutal-beyond-their-years debut Agony Defined —guitarist Sebastian Phillips keeps his thoughts on the tour perfectly succinct: “Dream come true. Period.”

We know you can’t wait for these symphonies of sickness to be conducted either, so here’s your chance to score a great deal AND avoid standing in line. There will be a number of VIP premium packages available in each market, providing you with a T-shirt, poster, “Skip the Line” pass and free digital sampler from Nuclear Blast. The price of this package is less than you would spend on a ticket and a tour shirt at the show! More details, including ticket info, are available at www.decibelmagazinetour.com
