Disney Cruise VIP Character Breakfast Review

As part of our  Disney Magic Eastern Caribbean Cruise , we did the Disney VIP Character Breakfast on our 2nd day of sea on Disney Magic. We took pictures with Chip, Dale, Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, and Pluto! Paula also made me Princess Leia buns and Miki made a Peter Pan hat out of cloth napkins! The breakfast was also be best breakfast we had during the whole cruise, except the pancakes were very dry and thick, as we had been mostly eating breakfast at the buffet.

I really enjoyed character breakfast and it’s free so I definitely recommend doing it on your next cruise if you like seeing and interacting with characters. The hardest part is having to wake up early on a sea day. I think it’s usually held at 8 am.

Character breakfast is only offered on sailings 7 days or longer with 2 or more sea days. They are held the morning of certain sea days only and require advance reservation. You can make a reservation for character breakfast when your reservation booking window opens, at the same time you can book shore excursions. Though some times additional reservations are accepted when you get onboard, I highly recommend reserving online prior to your cruise to ensure you do not miss out. As of December 2018, Disney currently offers 2 different character breakfasts:

  • VIP Character Breakfast – Featuring Mickey & Friends
  • Disney Junior Character Breakfast – Featuring Disney Junior characters, such as Doc McStuffins, Jake (from “Jake and the Neverland Pirates), Sofia from “Sofia the First”

Generally, a sailing will offer one or the other; not both character breakfasts. Exact characters cannot be guaranteed. Character breakfast is complimentary and is open to adults and kids; NOT to be confused with the Royal Tea Party, which is an extra fee and only open to kids and adults who accompany them.

Disney Magic Cruise Ship Menus and Restaurant Guide

By Kim LaPaglia Leave a Comment

We’re so excited that you’re planning a Disney cruise!

disney cruise magic character breakfast

Disney Magic

If you’re like us, you’re already wondering about the FOOD available on your cruise . You’ve found the right place to help you dig in. We’ve got a full look at the Disney Magic menus for you today!

As Disney’s first cruise ship, the Disney Magic set sail on June 30, 1998. Disney Cruise Line’s first ship introduced some innovative dining concepts at sea. One thing you should know about DCL ships before we dive into menus — Disney introduced the concept of “rotational dining” on cruises.

That means instead of one main dining room, Disney Cruise ships have three different, heavily-themed restaurants, and you rotate through dining at each one on different nights during your cruise. Your servers even move from restaurant to restaurant with you!

The Disney Magic has three restaurants for rotational dining: Rapunzel’s Royal Table , Animator’s Palate , and Lumiere’s. Now, let’s dive into those Disney Magic Cruise Ship Menus!

Disney Magic Casual Dining

  • Cabanas  is where you go for that quintessential cruise buffet experience. Find it on Deck 9.

An Overview of EVERY Disney Cruise Line Restaurant

Disney magic rotational dining.

Animator’s Palate

The  Animator’s Palate restaurant   is all about animation. The dining room nods to artists and hand-drawn designs, and  guests can watch an “innovative dinner show that celebrates the art of storytelling”  while they eat.

disney cruise magic character breakfast

The food here is  a fusion of eats from the Pacific Islands, Asia, and California . Dishes include options like smoked salmon tartar, butternut squash soup, grilled tuna steak, and Angus beef tenderloin. Leave room for dessert! You’ll have options such as chocolate fudge cheesecake and lemon icebox pie.

Lumiere’s

This restaurant is  themed after  Beauty and the Beast , and you’ll get to dine in a room inspired by the grand ballroom from that movie.

disney cruise magic character breakfast

Besides the rotational dinners,  Lumiere’s is also open for breakfast and lunch , and the tables are open-seating at that time. Breakfast options include French toast, omelets, pancakes, crêpes, and more.  Lunch is served as a three-course meal  with options like grilled chicken, barbecue pork ribs, and herb-crusted fish.

Dinner is a four-course meal , with  American and French dishes . Appetizers include a mushroom tart, french onion soup, or duck confit. Some entrée options are roasted duck breast, three-cheese lobster macaroni, or “Lumiere’s” seared sea bass. A dessert menu is also available.

Rapunzel’s Royal Table

This restaurant is themed after the Disney film  Tangled . The premise is that  you’re invited to Rapunzel’s birthday celebration , which will include  visits from Rapunzel, Flynn Rider, and the Snuggly Duckling thugs . The dining room is set to look like a ballroom with  glowing lanterns  to light the tables.

Disney Cruise Character Breakfast

Sharing is caring!

Did you know that there is a Disney Cruise Character Breakfast on select Disney cruises year-round? Learn more about the Character Breakfasts to see if this is a great option for your next Disney Cruise.

UNFORTUNATELY, THE CHARACTER BREAKFAST HAS NOT BEEN AVAILABLE SINCE 2020 AND THERE IS NO OFFICIAL WORD AS TO WHETHER OR NOT IT WILL RETURN.

disneycruisecharacterbreakfast

If you are sailing on a Disney Cruise of 7 nights or more there will be an opportunity to eat at Character Breakfasts. Unfortunately, they are only offered on cruises of 7 nights and more.

This means that if you are sailing on the Disney Dream, as they only sail 3, 4 and 5-night itineraries, there will not be a Disney Cruise Character Breakfast.

However, all other 7 night or more cruises will have this.

These special breakfasts are usually scheduled twice a week for the 7-night cruises. It will always be on a sailing day.

Disney Cruise Character Breakfast Tickets

You will need tickets for the Disney Cruise Character Breakfast. They are limited and you do need to plan ahead if you want to go to the Disney Junior Breakfast on board any of the Disney ships where it is being offered.

Even though you need a ticket, the Disney cruise character breakfast is free. There is no additional cost to attend, but you must have a ticket.

Everyone with a Disney cruise reservation can log in to their Disney Cruise Personalizer either online or by downloading the Disney Cruise App on their phone.

Depending upon your Castaway Club status you will be able to sign up for events a certain number of days prior to your Disney Cruise embarkation .

The Castaway Club is the Disney Cruise loyalty club. You automatically become a member of the Castaway Club when you have sailed on your first Disney Cruise.

IMdisneycruisecharcterbreakfastG_4669

There are 3 tiers of membership in the Castaway Club. The more cruises you have done, the higher the level you reach.

The first level is Silver when you have sailed between 1 and 5 cruises. If you are Silver you can book activities 90 days prior to sailing.

The second level is Gold. To reach Gold Castaway Club status you have to have sailed between 6 and 10 cruises. The booking window for Gold Castaway Club members is 105 prior to sailing.

When you have completed your tenth Disney cruise you will have Platinum status. This means that you can book activities 120 days before sailing.

Concierge Guests can also book 120 days before sailing.

characterbreakfastondisneycruise

If you have never sailed on a Disney cruise before you will have to wait until 75 days before sailing before you can book any activities online.

As you will see, the more Disney cruises you have sailed, the earlier you can book activities.

The Disney Junior Breakfast is a very popular activity on a Disney Cruise. The tickets do all get allocated.

As with all Disney cruise activities you should book as soon as you can. This doesn’t always work out of course. Even if you are a Platinum Castaway Club member you may book late and so not get that 120-day advantage.

What if you can’t grab a ticket online prior to your cruise as they have already “sold out”?

Don’t worry too much if you do not have a ticket. Keep checking back online as sometimes people do cancel their reservations.

However, it may be that you still can’t get a ticket before you sail.

If this happens what you need to do is go to Guest Services as soon as you board the ship. Often there will still be tickets available. If there aren’t you will be put on a waiting list and you may still get lucky.

This is exactly the same advice that we have if you don’t get tickets for the Disney Cruise Frozen Meet and Greet prior to boarding.

Disney Cruise Character Breakfast Characters

disneyjuniorcruisebreakfast

The theme is now Disney Junior for the Character Breakfasts. I am not particularly sure why this theme is chosen. I admit that it certainly isn’t my favorite.

I preferred it years ago when you had the usual characters you also get in most of the character breakfasts in the Disney parks such as Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Pluto or Chip and Dale.

However, I know that many Disney cruise guests with younger children do appreciate these characters as the kids love them.

Which characters appear at a Disney Junior Cruise Character Breakfast? Sofia The First, Doc McStuffins, Jake and Vampirina are in attendance. Mickey Mouse is also there to meet everyone.

Disney Cruise Character Breakfast Review

disneycruisecharacterbreakfastreview

What is the Disney Cruise Character Breakfast actually like? It really is a lot of fun and I would particularly recommend it if you have young children.

If you have a character breakfast in a Disney park or resort on land you will certainly be paying around $200 for your family of 4. It is really good that it is included on Disney cruises which are 7 days or longer.

The Disney Junior theme is not one that I particularly enjoy. My children are older now as my youngest is 13 so the Disney Junior theme is not one which is particularly appealing for them. However, it certainly will be for younger ones.

It is always good to see Mickey and this is a great opportunity to meet and greet him without having to stand in line.

disneycruisedisneyjuniorcharacterbreakfast

The theming of the Character Breakfast on a Disney cruise is a bit lacking, although they do have screens showing the Disney Junior logo.

The Disney Junior Character Breakfast Menu has a lot of variety and the presentation is generally well done. It is certainly a lot better than the Disembarkation Breakfast menu which now I have started to avoid as it is so limited and generally not very well cooked either.

The character breakfast food is pretty good. The whole experience does feel a little rushed as the servers are working very hard to get the food out efficiently. The whole process takes about 45 minutes to an hour.

If you get the opportunity I would suggest always trying the Character Breakfast on a Disney Cruise. It’s a lot of fun and you can get some great pictures of Mickey Mouse!

Complete Guide to Dining on the Disney Magic

' data-srcset=

Are you planning a cruise on the Disney Magic? We loved our dining experiences and the themed restaurants on the Magic. Here’s the complete guide to dining on the Disney Magic!

Disney Cruise Line Dining

The Disney Cruise Line offers several dining options for each meal: sit down, buffet style, adult only, quick service, snacks and room service.

Breakfast Options – Dining on the Disney Magic

Cabana’s-.

Cabana’s is a buffet style restaurant. Breakfast options are plentiful! Different types of eggs- scrambled, omelets, hard boiled. Plus, pancakes, Mickey waffles, toast, pastries, donuts, bacon, sausage, potatoes, hashbrowns, oatmeal, yogurt, a fruit bar and boxed cereals. I’m sure there’s more that I’m forgetting too!

Dress code is casual. There is indoor and outdoor seating available.

We enjoyed the buffet. Our favorite thing was that it was quick! We could be in and out rather quickly. Plus, there are so many options even for the pickiest eaters.

They do require everyone to wash their hands before entering.

Tip – I suggest coming when it first opens, because it will be less crowded.

Table Service Restaurant

Each day one of the main table service restaurants will offer a breakfast table service meal. It does change daily which restaurant will be open.

Lumiere’s or Rapunzel’s Royal Table

The menu changes daily as well, but usually offers fruit, yogurt, waffles, french toast and some kind of egg and meat plate. Plus coffee and juice.

We enjoyed this, because the service is always incredible. The food selections can be slightly better than the buffet. However it is time consuming.

Tip- If in somewhat of a time crunch, tell the server when you first get there so they can rush the food.

Breakfast - Complete Guide to Dining on the Disney Magic

The Cove is an adult only cafe on deck 9. It serves coffee drinks and pastries at an additional cost. This is premium coffee if you are like my husband and a coffee snob 🙂

Coffee Art on the Disney Magic

Room Service

Room service is available complimentary, but do remember to tip!

It is a limited menu only serving a continental style type breakfast. Cereals, toast, pastries, donuts, fruit, milk and juice.

There is a specific breakfast card to fill out and hang on your room door the night before.

Lunch Options – Dining on the Disney Magic

Cabana’s.

Cabana’s is a buffet style restaurant. Lunch options are plentiful! It does vary daily. Some of the food choices are prime rib, pork tenderloin, chicken pot pie, chicken nuggets and seafood. Side options are mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, green beans, soups, salads and pasta. They also offer different types of cuisine like Chinese, Indian, Thai, etc, on different days. Plus plenty of dessert options like cupcakes, ice cream, pastries and cookies.

One of my favorite dishes was the Ratatouille!

Each day one of the main table service restaurants will be open for lunch. It does change daily which restaurant will be open.

The menu changes daily, but some of the offerings were seafood, steak, salads, soups, and hamburgers. Plus a couple dessert options.

We enjoyed this, because the service is always incredible. The food selections can be slightly better than the buffet. However it is time consuming. It is a three course meal.

Tip- A sit down lunch will be available on embarkation day too! Most head to the buffet, but we loved being able to relax and sit with our bags before our room was ready.

Lunch options are salads, soups, sandwiches, pizza, and desserts. For an additional cost, soft drinks, bottled water, beer, wine and candy are available.

Snack Options

Eye Scream Treats- free soft serve ice cream. It’s a help yourself station right next to the pool!

Frozone Treats- Smoothies, frozen treats, dole whips, and adult dole whips!

Dinner Dining on the Disney Magic

Disney Cruise lines do dining a little different than other ships.

You will be assigned a dining time, usually 5:45pm or 8:15pm that will be the same every night. Disney has this worked out, so you will not miss one of their shows. If you have the first dining seating, you will watch the show after dinner. If you have the second dining option, you will watch the show first.

For example, we had the second seating for dinner at 8:15pm. All the Disney Broadway shows or variety acts for us started at 6:15pm each night. Every night we watched the show, and then still had a little bit of time before dinner.

They will also assign you a table number that may or may not include other people outside your party. This usually depends on how large your party is. Since there were only two of us, they placed us with two other couples.

You will sit at the same table number each night in the different restaurants.

disney cruise magic character breakfast

Rotational Dining

The Disney Magic offers what is called rotational dining. You will be assigned one of the three restaurants each night. Depending on the length of your itinerary, you may eat at each restaurant once, twice or a few times.

When you board the Disney Magic, you will be able to look at your schedule and see the assigned restaurants for each night. You will also be able to view the menus ahead of time.

This is how our 6 day Western Caribbean itinerary looked:

Second Seating at 8:15pm Table 70

Tuesday- Animator’s Palate

Wednesday -Rapunzel’s Royal Table

Thursday -Lumiere’s

Friday -Animator’s Palate

Saturday – Rapunzel’s Royal Table

Sunday – Lumiere’s

Monday – 8:15am Breakfast at Lumiere’s (On the last morning before debarking, you are assigned a breakfast time. Ours was the second breakfast seating, since we were second seating during dinner. This is a plus, because we got to sleep in a little more and miss some of the craziness of the peak debarking time)

One of the cool things about rotational dining is that the waitstaff rotates with you. You will have the same waitstaff every night. This is great because they get to know you, your name, allergies and drink preferences. By the second and third night, they brought us our favorite beverage automatically.

The servers are AMAZING!! Seriously incredible service. I’ve heard that they even cut up your kids food for them! One of the perks of dining on the Disney Magic!

Disney Magic Restaurants On the Rotational Dining

Animator’s palate.

This Disney Magic restaurant highlights the magic of Disney animation.

On our first night dining here, everything was black and white. There are multiple screens that showed drawings of Disney movies. Sorcerer Mickey came in half way during the meal and showed the tales of Disney and Pixar Heros. At the end of his show, the restaurant came to life and all of the screens contained colors in the animations.

Complete Guide to dining on the Disney Magic

On our second dining night, our server had us complete a figure of a person- face, hair, clothing, etc. We handed in the drawing before ordering our meal. Towards the end of dinner, he told us to watch the screens. Our drawings were animated and brought to life! They even credited us with our name at the end. We became official Disney animators!

We did have a different menu each time we dined there. Some of the offerings were Ginger teriyaki beef tenderloin, herb crusted pork chop, tuna steak, pasta, salmon tartar and much more. This is a four course meal.

Animator's Palate Dinner

Rapunzel’s Royal Table

Rapunzel’s Royal Table is inspired by the movie Tangled. It’s a fun dinner with a show including Rapunzel and her friends.

During our first dinner here, Rapunzel’s friends threw Rapunzel a birthday party. They sang songs throughout dinner and each character came around to visit each table for a brief minute. The end of the show has everyone celebrating with her and all the lanterns getting lit.

I heard the second dinner here is another type of birthday celebration, but we missed this one. We chose to eat at Palo this evening. More info on Palo in a bit.

This menu changed the two different evenings as well. Some of the options include pork tenderloin, prime rib, pasta, sea bass and more. This is a four course meal.

Overall it’s fun dinner and show.

disney cruise magic character breakfast

Lumiere’s

Lumiere’s is themed after Beauty and the Beast. The decor is French inspired with enchanted roses and a Beauty and The Beast mural.

There was no entertainment the two times we dined there. The setting was beautiful and we enjoyed the food.

The menu did change both nights we ate here. Some of the selections were caviar, shrimp, steak, rack of lamb, oysters, French onion soup, sea bass, lobster tail and more! This is a four course meal as well.

disney cruise magic character breakfast

Adult Dining

Palo’s is an elegant Northern Italian inspired dining venue available to adults 18 and older for an additional cost. They offer brunch and dinner dining times. Reservations should be made when your booking window opens, but you can always check onboard to see if there are any openings.

We had dinner at Palo towards the end of our cruise and absolutely loved it! It was the best meal we had all week! For dinner they offer a fixed menu or an ala carte. We went with the fixed menu and enjoyed calamari, an Italian salad, beef tenderloin and their signature chocolate souffle.

Palo's Adult Dining

The view is phenomenal from here, so make sure to get a reservation before the sun sets. I made the mistake of keeping our 8:00 eating time and we couldn’t see anything 🙁

Chocolate Souffle

Want to relax and grab a drink? There are plenty of options onboard!

Cove Cafe- Casual cafe for adults only on Deck 9. Coffee drinks in the morning and adult beverages in the evening.

Fathoms – During the day hosts family friendly events. After 9:00pm, it turns into an adults only nightclub with fun activities like trivia, adult game shows, dance parties, variety acts and scavenger hunts. Offers a full bar.

Keys- An adults only Piano Bar with a relaxing atmosphere and live piano music. We enjoyed coming here to relax after the show and before dinner. Offers a full bar.

disney cruise magic character breakfast

O’Gills Pub- Irish themed pub that hosts adult trivia games and televised sporting events. Offers a full bar.

Signals- Adults only bar located next to the adults Quiet Cove pool. Offers a full bar.

Promenade Lounge- lounge on deck 3 open to families to relax, enjoy a snack or take part in a game.

Tips for Dining on The Disney Magic

  • Listen to your server’s meals suggestions. They usually know what are the best options on the menu. The times that I didn’t care for my meal, I went against his suggestions.
  • If you can’t decide between two things, get both! They allow you to get as much food as you want. I only did this a couple times and it usually involved dessert 🙂
  • Mickey bars are not on the menu, but you can order it at dinner or for room service.
  • If you have second seating, order room service or get a quick service meal around 3:30/4:00pm to tide you over until dinner.
  • Go to Cabana’s as soon as it opens for less crowds.
  • If you are in a time crunch to be somewhere, let the server know so that they can rush your food.
  • Take advantage of the Drink of the Day. They are heavily discounted.

Disney Magic Ship Overview

The Disney Magic is the cruise ship that started it all for Disney Cruise Line. With its maiden voyage in 1998, the world was introduced to an entirely different kind of cruising. In an industry that seems to be increasingly focused on mind-numbingly huge mega ships boasting roller coasters, bumper cars, and casinos , the Disney Magic holds its own and offers a unique experience that – while perhaps a bit more low-key – still has something to entertain the entire family.

After stepping onboard to the applause of the Crew and your fellow passengers, you’re immediately enveloped in the grand atrium of the ship, where a statue of Helmsman Mickey makes a popular photo spot. A glance around reveals art deco touches and hints of the sea itself, all invoking the early days of seafaring ocean liners.

How is Disney Magic Different From Other Disney Cruise Ships?

As the first-ever ship for Disney Cruise Line, the Disney Magic broke all kinds of long-standing norms for the cruise industry – introducing fireworks at sea, rotational dining, and many more innovations.

Now, with five ships in the fleet and more Disney Cruise ships under construction , you might think the Magic is a relic of the past. Not so.

The ship receives frequent updates, most recently in 2023 with the addition of a new lounge onboard. Its biggest upgrades came in 2013 when the ship underwent an overhaul so massive that they actually had to put in additional buoyancy capabilities to handle the added weight!

Thanks to this kind of attention, the Magic still has plenty of innovations and unique experiences that can only be found onboard this ship. For example, it’s the only Disney cruise ship on which you’ll find the AquaDunk drop-style water slide (added during the ship’s 2013 “re-imagination”).

The Disney Magic is a sister ship to the Disney Wonder , meaning the two are relatively equal in terms of construction (though similar areas on each ship are themed differently from one another). They’re the smallest ships in the fleet, easily outsized by other Disney ships.

Does the Smaller Size Make Disney Magic Better or Worse?

There are pros and cons to both types of ships, but it’s really going to come down to personal preference.

The smaller size of the Disney Magic means it’s much easier to navigate on foot – you’re just a short walk away from virtually any point on the ship. My wife and I prefer smaller ships such as the Magic for this very reason — it’s great to know that we can get pretty much anywhere onboard with a 5-10 minute walk and not be exhausted when we get there.

On the larger ships, I feel like I have to factor in “commute time” for dinner and shows. For the Disney Magic, it feels like I’m just walking around the corner. This makes the Disney Magic a great option for your first-ever Disney Cruise — it might not feel quite as overwhelming as a larger ship could.

This smaller ship is also able to visit ports that are inaccessible to larger ships, so you’re able to experience some fun itineraries and ports you might not be able to visit on a larger ship. In years past, the Disney Magic would actually sail straight right past the Doge’s Palace in Venice, Italy! (Cruise ships have since been prohibited from doing so, but it certainly was a sight back in the day.)

The Disney Magic has never really felt “small” to me — just “small in comparison.” If you’re more-accustomed to mega ships, you might prefer other Disney ships such as the Disney Dream , Disney Fantasy , or Disney Wish ; on the other hand, you might appreciate the easier access to everything that comes with a smaller ship. It’s worth noting that while the larger Disney ships tend to upsize everything — meaning that theatres, dining rooms, and pools might be bigger — most of the ships still have relatively equal offerings. As an example, the Magic (smaller) and Dream (larger) both have three major restaurants, a night club district, kids clubs, pools, waterslides, a water ride, a spa, and live shows — just with differences in size, layout, and theming.

Disney Magic Staterooms

A bed and couch in a Disney Cruise stateroom, leading to an outdoor balcony verandah

Let’s first focus on your own private room onboard the ship. Your stateroom (passenger cabin) is essentially your hotel room at sea, so it’s an important choice to make!

The Disney Magic has 875 staterooms, most of which offer an outside view via either a porthole window or a verandah balcony. Staterooms on the ship are divided into four primary types of rooms; each of those four types is further divided into multiple categories and subcategories. The type of room you choose is one of the biggest factors in the price of your cruise , because the per-person cost changes as the stateroom category changes.

Here is a consolidated list of the room types offered onboard. They’re listed here generally from least expensive to most expensive, though there may be some price overlap. For a more in-depth look at each of these room types, see the descriptions and photos posted in our Disney Cruise Staterooms article.

Inside Staterooms on Disney Magic

Inside Staterooms have no porthole window and no balcony. They do have a round mirror that sort of looks like a porthole, but all you’ll see through it is your reflection. The standard version of this stateroom is the smallest, while the deluxe version is slightly larger.

The standard version is also the only regular stateroom category on the ship which does not feature a split bathroom configuration; a split bathroom has a toilet/sink in a separate room from the shower/sink, allowing two people to get ready at the same time.

Disney Magic Dining and Lounges

The dining room of Animator's Palate, with oversized art brushes and colorful light fixtures resembling an artist's paint palate.

It’s a well-known fact that cruises feature virtually endless food options , and the Disney Magic is no exception. With three sensational main dining restaurants, an elegant adult-only dining option, and plenty of places to grab a quick meal or a snack on the go, you certainly won’t go hungry onboard this ship.

Rotational Dining Restaurants on Disney Magic

Like all Disney Cruise Ships, the Disney Magic offers rotational dining during the nightly dinner service. This Disney Cruise Line innovation pre-schedules you to visit a different restaurant on each night of the cruise. You’ll have the same waitstaff each night, so they’ll get to know you and your food preferences.

Dinner at these three restaurants is included in the cost of your Disney Cruise .

  • Animator’s Palate

A large video screen on the wall in Animator's Palate

The flagship dining experience on the first four Disney ships (including Disney Magic), Animator’s Palate offers a fan-favorite menu along with a taste of the magic of animation.

Menu-wise, you’ll find Asian, Pacific, and California influences: wild mushroom risotto, black truffle pasta purseittes (a DCL favorite!), butternut squash soup, polenta cake with tomato and mushroom, lemon-thyme marinated chicken, beef tenderloin, and more.

Your dinner also includes a tribute to animation – Drawn to Magic tells the story of how an animated feature comes to life. Much like a cartoon goes from a pencil sketch to ink-and-paint, the entire dining room goes from black-and-white to color during your meal, thanks to a bit of help from Sorcerer Mickey.

On longer cruises, you might also experience Animation Magic , allowing you to draw your own character and see it animated as part of the dinner show! This is one of those amazingly cool experiences that really sets Disney Cruise Line apart from any other offering at sea.

The dining room at Lumiere's, with a scene from Beauty & The Beast on the wall.

Lumiere’s offers French cuisine in an elegant setting. Menu options may include a bacon and mushroom tart, French onion soup, escargot, roast duck, avocado citrus salad, sea bass, and lobster mac-and-cheese. Round out your meal with creme brulee or a delightful Grand Marnier souffle.

Outside of dinner service, Lumiere’s is also an option for breakfast and lunch on most days; you’ll find a more-Americanized menu during those meal periods.

  • Rapunzel’s Royal Table

Disney character Rapunzel reaches for a floating lantern in the dining room of Rapunzel's Royal Table

You’re invited to a special celebration for Rapunzel in the kingdom of Corona! Thanks to a little Disney magic, your night at the restaurant just happens to fall during the celebration of Rapunzel’s birthday and the anniversary of her return to the kingdom. A true royal feast unfolds… stuffed ravioli, ahi tuna tartare, smoked salmon, lemon & thyme roast chicken, prime rib, and the pun-definitely-intended angel hair pasta with sea scallops.

Dinner here includes a show: singing, dancing, the brusque yet lovable crew from the Snuggly Duckling, and a visit from Flynn and Rapunzel! All together, it makes for a fantastic meal with a hint of character dining .

Adult-Exclusive Dining on the Disney Magic

A Disney Cruise is certainly a family affair, but it’s not by any means just for kids. There are plenty of ways for adults to have fun on a Disney Cruise . One of those is to enjoy an adult-exclusive dinner while the kids enjoy the youth clubs.

Reserve a table at Palo for a delightful meal featuring memorable Italian cuisine. The stunning venue includes giant windows overlooking the ocean, providing a perfect backdrop for your meal.

Dinner menu items include butternut agnolotti, seared sea scallops, dover sole expertly fileted at your tableside, tiramisù, and their signature chocolate soufflé. On sea days, a tremendously-popular brunch service is typically offered.

Dining here requires an upcharge and space is usually in high demand; book as early as your onboard booking window allows.

Casual Dining on the Disney Magic Cruise Ship

Breakfast and lunch are casual affairs onboard – and one of the best places to enjoy these meals is at Cabanas.

The buffet-style Cabanas restaurant offers a mix of American, European, and Asian favorites in an all-you-care-to-eat breakfast and lunch served from nearly a dozen food stations.

In the morning, enjoy all the expected items – made-to-order omelets, bacon, sausage, Mickey Waffles, and such – along with international offerings that might include Huevos Rancheros, rice, and miso soup. I myself don’t usually include gravlax on my breakfast menu at home, but enjoy it as a nice change on my cruise breakfast plate. And every cruise I look forward to enjoying a giant bowl of fresh muesli with dried fruits and nuts to start my day (alongside a Mickey Waffle or two).

Lunch at Cabanas is an ever-changing mix of freshly-grilled meats, jumbo iced shrimp and crab claws, burgers, sandwiches, pizza, and more.

Cabanas also offers a dinner service alternative. It’s not buffet style at night – you’ll have a server at your table – but it’s a nice alternative if you’ve had your fill of the main dining rooms on a longer cruise.

Lounges, Bars, and Snacks on the Disney Magic

There’s always a place to grab a quick bite or a refreshing drink onboard. Whether you’re looking for a nibble, just want a soda, or are seeking something with a bit of alcohol , you’ll easily find it onboard. Here are just a few highlights:

An adults-only retreat that focuses on specialty coffees and teas during the day, with cocktails in the evening.

This family-friendly venue hosts interactive events for all ages. Karaoke, trivia, game shows, and even dance parties can be found here on a daily basis.

Daisy’s De-Lites, Duck-In Diner, and Pinocchio’s Pizzeria

For a quick grab-and-go snack poolside, check out these quick service windows. You’ll find pizza, burgers, hot dogs, sandwiches, chicken tenders, and even shawarma.

Eye Scream Treats and Frozone Treats

Cool down with all-you-can eat soft-serve ice cream cones (included in the cost of your cruise!), or spend a bit for a specialty smoothie.

An undersea-themed lounge that combines cocktails with live entertainment, such as comedy, music, karaoke, and interactive game shows.

An adults-only piano lounge featuring live music in a classy 1950s Hollywood atmosphere. Enjoy beer, wine, and of course martinis.

  • O’Gills Pub

The Disney Magic’s sports bar. Live matches (when available) are beamed in via satellite to this lively venue. Try the Blarney Stone Tasting Flight, with selections of whisky and Irish coffee.

Soda Station

One major difference between Disney Cruise dining and other cruise lines is that most non-alcoholic drinks are included at no additional cost — no need to purchase a separate drink package ! Located near the pool, this soda station offers unlimited refills all day long.

  • Soul Cat Lounge

Themed to the Disney•PIXAR film Soul . It’s located along the path leading to Rapunzel’s Royal Table, making it a great spot for a pre/post dinner drink and zeppole (fried dough pastry) — all accompanied by live music.

Room Service on Disney Magic

Room Service is included at no additional charge on the Disney Magic – all you’re expected to pay for is a tip for the crew member who delivers the food (and any specialty items you might opt for).

The standard menu typically includes salads, soups, chicken tenders, burgers and sandwiches, and even hot wings.  You’ll also typically find a couple of flatbread/pizza selections and perhaps a pasta dish. Cookies and cake/pie are the standard dessert.

A favorite among Disney Cruise Line’s repeat cruisers is the All Hands on Deck , a plate of assorted cheese, fruit, and crackers. And here’s a secret menu item that’s sure to delight kids of all ages: the famed Mickey’s Premium ice cream bar – yes, the same as those you find at Disney World and Disneyland!

If you don’t mind paying a bit extra, you can add on specialty items such as beer, wine, canned soft drinks, deluxe coffees, juices, and pre-packaged snacks such as candies.

Best Bets for Each Meal on Disney Magic

Below we list each of the main meal periods onboard the ship, and your best options for each.

  • Primary option: Cabanas is the prime breakfast spot onboard with long hours, a wide variety, and all you care to eat. The downside of this location is that its popularity can make it feel a bit hectic at times.
  • Secondary option: One of the three rotational restaurants (typically Lumiere’s) usually offers a table-service breakfast, complete with a server who will bring your food and keep your drinks refilled. The menu is a bit more limited than at Cabanas, but it’s usually a much more relaxed option to start your day.
  • Other options: You can order room service, but be forewarned that the breakfast menu is extremely limited. There’s no “hot breakfast” (eggs, bacon, sausage, oatmeal) on the menu, but you can get juices, coffees, pastries, and cold cereals. Elsewhere on the ship, you can likely find a light pastry at one of the cafes onboard, but don’t expect a filling meal.
  • Primary option: Like at breakfast, Cabanas is the best lunch option thanks to its tremendous selection. Iced jumbo shrimp and crab claws are a signature menu item most days; you’ll also find freshly grilled meats, a wide variety of side items, some interesting international selections, and lots of tempting desserts.
  • Secondary option: If you’re spending the afternoon lounging by the pool, there’s no need to dry off and head inside when a craving hits. Just drip your way on over to one of the many food service windows along the pool deck to enjoy a quick meal.  Options are more limited than Cabanas, but you’ll find enough to satisfy that rumbly in your tumbly with burgers, dogs, sandwiches, and unlimited ice cream cones. These windows often offer extended hours – a great option if you missed lunch hours at Cabanas or need a snack to hold you over until a later dinner service.
  • Other options : Lumiere’s typically serves a lunch option with open seating and waitstaff at your table. Room Service is another good option; your menu options won’t be terribly exciting, but you can still get a filling meal without leaving your couch (well, except to answer the door).
  • Primary option: Your assigned rotational dining restaurant is the heart of Disney Cruise dining. Your dedicated service team follows you all voyage long and will likely become your favorite Crew Members onboard the ship. Add in special themed menus and other thoughtful touches, and you’ll quickly see why this is a highlight of each day onboard.
  • Secondary option: As an alternative to your pre-scheduled rotational dining restaurant, you might opt to experience Cabanas in a totally new way. Dinner at Cabanas is an entirely different experience than the free-for-all buffet-style offerings that are the mainstay of breakfast and lunch. You’ll be seated at a table, and a server will present you a menu that features some of the most popular selections from other restaurants. It’s typically very laid back and it makes for a nice alternative, especially if a particular themed night at your assigned restaurant doesn’t sound like your speed..
  • Other options: Many cruisers enjoy dedicating at least one night of their cruise to an adult-exclusive meal at Palo. Otherwise, you can always grab something from the quick-service windows on the pool deck, or order room service.

Off-hours Eating and Snacking

  • Primary option: For cravings outside the main meal periods, your best bet is the quick-service options on the pool deck. Their generous hours and snacky offerings make them a great choice to tide you over between meals. Individual portions tend to be “snack sized” (such as 2 or 3 chicken tenders and a few fries), so you won’t spoil your dinner. But it’s still all-you-can-eat so you can certainly fill up if you desire.
  • Secondary option: Room Service is available 24/7 (up until about 1:30 AM on the last morning of your cruise), and is the only option for overnight snacking. Whether you’re craving buffalo wings at 4:00 AM (no judgment) or just want some warm cookies and milk at bedtime, room service won’t leave you hungry.

Disney Magic Pools and Water Slides

Image of the Aqua Dunk water slide, with a large clear tube coiled alongside the Disney Magic's distinctive red funnels (featuring a white Mickey Mouse silhouette and blue wave design)

The AquaDunk is a drop-style water slide that’s only found onboard the Disney Magic – not even its sister ship the Disney Wonder has one!

Your adventure begins when you climb the steps to the top of one of Disney Magic’s iconic red smokestack funnels; there, you’ll step into the launch chamber of a 215-foot-long water slide tube. Cross your arms and enjoy the exquisite suspense before the floor drops out from beneath you trapdoor-style, sending you plummeting about forty feet straight down and careening out over the edge of the ship (still safely encased in the clear tube). Seconds later, you’ll splash down in a shallow run-out area that makes it easy to stand up, perform the necessary wedgie extraction (since we’re being honest here), and head out for more fun.

The ride is almost comically short – less than 10 seconds from trapdoor to splashdown – but it’s quite exhilarating.

There’s no additional charge to ride the AquaDunk, but you will have to wait in line (sorry, no FastPass or Lightning Lane here). Lines tend to be longest on Sea Days and shorter when the ship is in port. Riding earlier or later can also help avoid crowds – just don’t forget to check the operating hours each day in the Navigator app.

Guests must be at least 48” tall to ride.

Twist ’n’ Spout

Part of the AquaLab (see below), Twist ‘n’ Spout is a bright yellow double-looping waterslide. You’ll twist and turn over almost 250 feet before a thrilling splashdown. Guests must be at least 38” tall to ride, and adult supervision is required for kids under age 16.

Pools and Splash Pads

The AquaLab on the Disney Magic, with the giant Twist 'n' Spout slide's yellow tubes behind a shallow pool and splash zone

This multi-level water playground is a great place for kids to cool off during their cruise. It includes a small pool, a “beach” with geysers and pop jets, pouring “paint” cans and showerheads, leaky pipes, and the amusing Donald’s Boiler – a familiar-shaped contraption that occasionally drenches everyone. Intended for ages 3+; adult supervision required for those under age 16.

Goofy’s Pool

The main pool onboard the ship, Goofy’s Pool on deck 9 serves as the family pool onboard. In addition to the large main pool, you’ll also find a couple of whirlpool tubs nearby. The giant FunnelVision video screen and a large stage are nearby, so there’s always something to keep you entertained while swimming. Intended for ages 3+ (must be toilet trained), with adult supervision required for those under age 16. This pool is occasionally closed so that it can be covered and used as additional deck space for major events, such as the sail-away party.

Nephews’ Splash Zone

Tiny travelers aged 3 years or younger can splash away the day among a veritable sea of spraying water and pop jets. Swim diapers are required, and children must be supervised by an adult.

Quiet Cove Pool

A serene oasis for the grown-ups. Those under the age of 18 are not permitted in this adults-only escape, not because anything elicit happens there but rather because every age group needs a bit of time to themselves. You’ll find a pool and whirlpool tubs here, along with plenty of lounge chairs and easy access to the adult beverage of your choice.

Disney Magic Kids Clubs and Teen Clubs

DCL Oceaneer Club

You might expect a Disney Cruise to be overrun with children. And while there are certainly plenty of kids onboard, they spend a lot of time in the fantastic kids clubs on the ship so you might be surprised at how few kids you see at times. A substantial portion of Deck 5 is dedicated to those under age 12.

  • Disney’s Oceaneer Club

The Oceaneer Club is the place where your kids will likely spend a large amount of their time onboard. It’s a secure facility accessible only to kids aged 3-10 and trained youth activities staff. Inside there are tons of kid-friendly spaces and activities, and it’s all included in the cost of your Disney cruise! This amazing kids club is one of the reasons we consider Disney to be the best cruise line for children .

Andy’s Room

Kids are immersed in the world of Disney·Pixar’s Toy Story movies in this unique multi-level play area.

Marvel Super Hero Academy

Themed as a top-secret S.H.I.E.L.D. facility, this area gives kids the chance to summon their inner Super Hero (and visit with a few real ones, too!). There’s plenty of time for freeform play, and occasional structured activities.

Disney Junior Area

A favorite of younger Oceaneers, the Disney Junior area features games, characters, and more.

Pixie Hollow

In this enchanted forest realm – home to Tinker Bell and her fairy friends – kids will find everything they need for a game of dress-up, a special craft project, or storytime.

  • Disney’s Oceaneer Lab

A partner facility to the Oceaneer Club, the Oceaneer Lab offers lots of hand-on activities and experiences for kids ages 3-10.

Tweens and young teens – ages 11 to 14 – have a space all to themselves onboard the Disney Magic. Edge is the perfect place to relax thanks to its moody boiler room feel. There’s a huge video screen, a dance floor, plus plenty of video games and crafts. A mix of planned activities and unstructured free time keeps things interesting.

This teens-only retreat is in one of the coolest places on the ship – right inside one of the iconic red smokestack funnels! Those aged 14 to 17 can enjoy a specialty coffee or smoothie while relaxing with newfound friends. For techy types, there are plenty of TVs, video games, and tablets. Meanwhile, active teens will enjoy dance parties, karaoke sessions, and group activities.

it’s a small world nursery!

The tiniest cruisers are well taken care of in it’s a small world nursery! , an onboard babysitting service for infants and toddlers aged three and younger.

Disney youth counselors watch over the tykes and will also feed them and handle any necessary diaper changes.

This nursery service does require an additional (nominal) fee for each half-hour, with a one-hour minimum. Discounts are available for multiple children in the same family. Advanced reservations are strongly recommended. Note that there are no in-room babysitting services onboard.

Need Answers But Don’t Want To Wait On Hold?

Disney Magic Entertainment and Activities

Stage and seating of the Walt Disney Theatre

Disney is first and foremost an entertainment company – and that concept continues onboard its ships.

Broadway-Style Shows in the Walt Disney Theatre

Each night of your cruise, you’ll have the opportunity to enjoy a live show in the beautiful Walt Disney Theatre. This includes at least three Broadway-style shows during your cruise, along with other additions (such as family-friendly comedians, magicians, and hypnotists) on longer voyages.

Disney Dreams – An Enchanted Classic

A touching tale of a young girl at the age of not believing – follow along as she learns how to believe in herself thanks to the power of positive thinking along with some help from favorite Disney characters and memorable music.

Tangled: The Musical

A lively musical retelling of Rapunzel’s adventures. Sing along with film favorites and learn a few new songs, too! This live stage adaptation of the popular film is sure to wow you – especially when the mesmerizing puppet of Maximus takes the stage.

Twice Charmed: An Original Twist on the Cinderella Story

And they all lived happily ever after! But what happened after the end of the Disney classic Cinderella ? This comedy explores the idea of time-traveling (!) wicked stepmothers and stepdaughters (thanks to help from, who else, a wicked Fairy Godfather) trying to destroy the glass slipper and wreck Cinderella’s marriage.

Pirate Night / Pirates in the Caribbean Deck Party with Fireworks

Pirate night starts with the delivery of pirate bandanas to your stateroom – then the party moves to your scheduled dining location for the evening, where a special themed menu awaits. Then, head up to the pool deck for a raucous show with high-flying pirates including favorite Disney characters. Finally, the grand finale (and another Disney innovation) – fireworks at sea!

Note: not every itinerary offers a pirate night, and fireworks may be canceled due to weather.

Disney Movies in the Buena Vista Theatre

First-run and classic favorite Disney, PIXAR, and LucasFilm movies are shown all day long in the Buena Vista Theatre. Best of all? It’s completely free! You don’t even need a ticket – just drop in at showtime and grab a seat.

Sailing during the premiere of a highly-anticipated Disney film? It’ll be shown repeatedly in the Buena Vista Theatre, likely after a huge “PremEAR at Sea” showing in the Walt Disney Theatre.

Disney Magic Spas and Salons

Pedicure chairs face large oceanview windows at Senses Spa on Disney Magic. Senses is offered on all Disney cruises.

If you think a massage is relaxing, imagine a massage while looking out over the ocean! Disney Magic offers a full-service spa onboard the ship, plus many other health and wellness services.

Senses Spa and Salon

Pamper yourself with spa treatments, salon services, and rejuvenation procedures at this restful retreat. Experience Swedish massage, aroma stone therapy, deep tissue massage, facials, acupuncture, teeth whitening, shampoo/cut/style, manicures, pedicures, CoolSculpting, and more. Complimentary non-alcoholic beverages, showers, lockers, sandals, and robes round out the offerings.

Exclusively for guests aged 13-17, this special area of Senses offers treatments to teens. A parent or guardian must accompany the teen for the duration of the treatment ( solo and combined treatments are offered as an option).

Fitness Center

Keep up your workout routine (and burn off the four desserts you ordered at dinner last night) in the Fitness Center. Stay in shape with weight machines, cardio equipment, ellipticals, treadmills, and other equipment; participate in a yoga, Pilates, or aerobics class; or opt for personalized one-on-one training and analysis with a professional trainer.

  • Walking/Jogging Track

I don’t spend much time in the gym, but I do enjoy a nice walk for exercise. The Disney Magic offers a walking/jogging track on Deck 4 that offers close-up ocean views as well as a neat glimpse of some of the heavy machinery that keeps the ship going (should you be into that sort of thing like I am). It’s a great place to take a leisurely stroll after dinner, or take a jog if you’re so inclined. You might even recognize your stateroom host or dinner server – off-duty, of course – out for a run.

Dining on the disney magic cruise line.

Posted by: PaulaK January 20, 2019

disney cruise magic character breakfast

Dining is one of the most important parts of any Disney cruise. I recently returned from a Disney hosted trip aboard the Disney Magic, and the meals added more magic than I expected. The service was flawless, the food delicious, and the atmosphere was filled with special touches that you’ll only find with Disney. Here are the main dining options. There are also several quick service restaurants, lounges, and bars. Room service is also included in the cost of your trip.

I’ll start with the main buffet. Cabanas is open for all three meals, you can find the hours in the Navigator that you will receive daily. There are several different food stations, and you won’t leave hungry. My favorite thing about Cabanas was the view. Each time that we ate there we took our food out on the deck. I can’t tell you about dinner at Cabanas, because we enjoyed the main dining rooms too much. Breakfast and lunch were both quite good, with a nice variety for pretty much any taste.

2. Main Dining Rooms

There are three main dining rooms for dinner on the Disney Magic. You will be assigned one room each night, the restaurant and table assignment are found on your Key to the World Card. One thing that is unique about Disney Cruise Line is what they call rotational dining. Even though you will change restaurants, your serving staff will change with you. You’ll keep the same servers no matter which dining room you are in. This is a brilliant idea. Our servers quickly learned our likes and dislikes, and would make recommendations for us. By the final night we let our main server just place the order for what he recommended, because he had never steered us wrong. The best part of all about rotational dining, though, was that we really got to know the staff. They became our friends, and if we ever travel on the Disney Magic again we plan to ask for the same servers. Here are the three main dining rooms:

  • Rapunzel’s Royal Table: This is part restaurant and part show. You’ll celebrate Rapunzel’s birthday in the kingdom of Corona while you dine. Rapunzel is there, and Flynn Rider makes an appearance as well. The Snuggly Duckling Thugs are also on hand. Make sure that you listen to them when they want you to play along, because they will call you out. It’s all in good fun. The show was as good as the food. Since it was the first night of the cruise, the energy was high all around.

  • Lumiere’s: Our second night we ate at Lumiere’s. This restaurant is of course based on Beauty and the Beast . There is a mural on one wall to give you the illusion that you are in the grand ballroom from the animated classic. The lighting fixtures overhead each contained a single rose, which was a really nice effect. The food had a French flair. While Rapunzel’s Royal Table was a lot of fun, Lumiere’s was a more laid back dining experience. It was easy to hold a conversation during the meal. Lumiere’s is also open for breakfast and lunch if you’d rather skip Cabanas. Only dinner is part of rotational dining.

  • Animator’s Palate: Easily my favorite of the three main restaurants was Animator’s Palate. When you enter there are black and white drawings of favorite Disney characters on the walls. These sketches would change from time to time, and another character would take its place. Around the time that everyone was finishing up dessert the scenes changed. First the black and white started to turn to color. Then, the drawings came to life, so to speak, and the pictures turned into animated scenes. It was quite dramatic, and included music and lighting effects. To add to the fun, Sorcerer Mickey came out and spread magic throughout the room. Since the traditional meal at Animator’s Palate was the last night of our cruise, the staff all joined in as well. The whole room applauded. It was a touching way to be able to thank those who had taken such good care of us.

3. Specialty Nights

There were two specialty nights on our cruise. We got to experience Pirates In the Caribbean and Marvel Day at Sea. These two nights had special menus, which were the same at all three restaurants. We celebrated Pirate Night in Lumiere’s (this was my favorite meal of the trip) and Marvel Day at Sea in Animator’s Palate. There were no special shows or extras for the specialty nights. They were still some of the highlights of our cruise.

4. The Final Morning

If you want to see your rotational dining servers one more time (which we did), there is an opportunity the final morning. You can have breakfast at your normal table in the last restaurant that you ate at. Disney realizes that their dining staff is exceptional, and they know that guests will want to see them one more time. For us, this was the perfect way to end a near perfect vacation.

disney cruise magic character breakfast

There is one other main restaurant that you might want to try. Palo is only for those 18 and older. If costs extra, but it is also gourmet dining at its finest. You can make a Palo reservation for brunch or dinner. We chose brunch. The meal included an appetizer and an entree, plus there is a buffet. (There is no buffet at dinner.) We were also offered a complimentary mimosa or sparkling cider. The food is mostly Italian. Palo means “pole” in Italian, and the restaurant has poles throughout that are nods to the poles that the gondoliers use in Venice. The views can’t be beat, and the service was impeccable. There are also private dining rooms that can be reserved for up to 14 people. Reservations are required for Palo, and there is a dress code. Since it is an adult’s only experience, many parents will leave their children at one of the incredible Youth Clubs and then enjoy a quiet meal for two.

6. Castaway Cay

If you’re on a cruise that includes a stop on Disney’s private island in the Bahamas, you won’t go hungry there either. On Castaway Cay there are two main dining options. They serve pretty much the same thing, mostly barbecue, hamburgers, and hot dogs. Veggie burgers are available as well, and there are some salad options. If you follow a special diet, talk to your server at dinner the night before. He will put in a special order for you. You can also return to the ship for lunch if you are not in the mood for barbecue. It’s an easy walk or shuttle ride back. If some of the Cast Members at Castaway Cay look familiar, that’s because you know them already. Some of the dining staff from the Disney Magic was on hand to help out. We ran into our waiter from Palo, who still remembered our names, three days later. It’s things like that that make the service on a Disney cruise stand out.

One of my favorite things about a Disney Cruise? The mealtimes!  Dining aboard the Disney Magic is just one of the ways that families can relax and unwind and sea.  With a Disney Cruise Line sailing, there is no shortage of awesome options! Aboard the Disney Magic, you’ll find everything from full-course culinary fun to elaborately-themed restaurants with a lot of “character.”

Let’s check out some of the incredible dining experiences you can enjoy on a Disney Magic sailing!

With an eclectic variety of food choices, there really is something for everyone. Even picky little ones will have plenty of options for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

Daisy’s De-Lites (Disney Magic, Disney Wonder) – If you’re looking to eat a little healthier, this is the place. They serve a variety of salads, sandwiches, wraps, and fruit.

Duck-In Diner (Disney Magic) – This quick-service restaurant serves Middle Eastern shawarma made with chicken and lamb along with classic American food such as hamburgers and hot dogs.

Eye Scream Treats (Disney Magic, Disney Wonder, Disney Dream, Disney Fantasy) – This is the place to get unlimited soft-serve ice cream board!

Flo’s Cafe (Disney Dream, Disney Fantasy) – Here you will find Luigi’s Pizza, Tow Mater’s Grill, and Fillmore’s Favorites serving a wide selection of burgers, chicken, pizza, salads, and sandwiches.

Frozone Treats (Disney Magic, Disney Dream, Disney Fantasy) – Located poolside, here you will find frozen fruit smoothies (offered at an additional fee.)

Inside Out: Joyful Sweets (Disney Wish) – Enjoy hand-scooped gelato served in freshly made waffle cones. Treats include candy-filled chocolate “Memory Orbs” and colorful cupcakes that pay tribute to the film’s characters – Joy (lemon), Sadness (blueberry), Disgust (pistachio), Anger (red velvet) and Fear (bubble gum). Other specialties include macarons, cake pops, handcrafted truffles, designer cookies, chocolatey brownies, and assorted candies. (These sweet treats are offered at an additional fee.)

Marceline Market (Disney Wish) – Like Cabanas, this is the main dining buffet onboard the Disney Wish featuring a variety of American classics, International specialties, comfort foods, seafood, soups and salads, vegetarian and plant-based fare, as well as baked goods and desserts. During breakfast and lunch, Marceline Market offers a casual, walk-around dining experience. At dinner, guests can experience table-service dining with entrees cooked to order.

Mickey & Friends Festival of Foods (Disney Wish) – Enjoy pizza, burgers, tacos, BBQ, and other favorites including signature soft-serve ice cream. Choose from a selection of 5 uniquely themed quick-serve venues: Mickey’s Smokestack Barbecue, Daisy’s Pizza Pies, Goofy’s Grill, Sweet Minnie’s Ice Cream, and Donald’s Cantina.

Pete’s Boiler Bites (Disney Wonder) – Here you can enjoy classic American fare like burgers, hot dogs, and tacos for lunch or dinner.

Pinocchio’s Pizzeria (Disney Magic, Disney Wonder) – Available during lunch and snack times just next to Goofy’s pool, this place serves several kinds of pizza to enjoy.

Preludes (Disney Magic, Disney Wonder, Disney Dream, Disney Fantasy) – Most of the snacks here are available for an additional fee. It’s a great place to grab popcorn, beverages, and other miscellaneous snacks to enjoy during the amazing shows onboard. (You’ll also find wait staff inside the theater offering snacks to purchase just before showtime.)

Room Service (Disney Magic, Disney Wonder, Disney Dream, Disney Fantasy, Disney Wish) – Room service onboard all five Disney ships is available 24 hours a day and offers a wide range of choices. (Some of the choices are an additional fee, but much of the menu is included in the price of your cruise.)

Sweet on You (Disney Fantasy) – Here you will find specialty ice cream, cookies, cupcakes, and more (available at an additional cost.)

Vanellope’s Sweets & Treats (Disney Dream) – Similar to the sweets shop on the Disney Fantasy, this place is inspired by Princess Vanellope’s love of all things candy! (Treats are available for an additional cost.)

Wheezy’s Freezies (Disney Wish) – Inspired by everyone’s favorite penguin from Toy Story II , this poolside spot mixes up frozen-fruit smoothies.

Rotational Dining

One of the most unique dining aspects of a Disney Cruise is its rotational dining. Each night, your party rotates between three main restaurants on board, and your wait staff rotates with you. This allows you to try all that Disney has to offer while at the same time giving your waiters the opportunity to serve you better as they get to know you!

1923 (Disney Wish) – Step back in time and experience classic Hollywood glamour with a touch of Disney magic. This dining destination pays homage to the year when the legendary animation studio was founded in Southern California. With two stunning dining rooms named after the brothers who started it all – Walt and Roy, 1923 is a feast for the senses. Admire drawings, props, and other animation tools that depict the evolution of Disney animation from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs to Frozen II.

Animator’s Palate (Disney Magic, Disney Wonder, Disney Dream, Disney Fantasy) – This is definitely one of the most unique dining experiences onboard, and you can find it on four Disney cruise ships. Offering Pacific Island foods, Asian cooking, and fresh California fare, Disney animation comes to life throughout your meal.

Arendelle - A Frozen Dining Adventure | Magic in the Planning

Enchanted Garden (Disney Dream, Disney Fantasy) – Inspired by the gardens of Versailles, this restaurant is truly breathtaking. It serves a market-style menu and is one of the main dining restaurants onboard that also serves breakfast and lunch.

Lumiere’s (Disney Magic) – This Main Dining restaurant found only on the Disney Magic serves American cuisine for breakfast and lunch and contemporary French fare for dinner.

Rapunzel’s Royal Table (Disney Magic) – This restaurant is only available on the Disney Magic and currently serves dinner on Disney’s rotational dining. It serves American favorites as well as flavors from around the world. And did I mention there is also live entertainment and character appearances?

Royal Court (Disney Fantasy) – This restaurant, serving French-inspired, continental fare, is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner on board the Disney Fantasy, and its decor is inspired by several different Disney fairy tales.

Dining on Disney Cruise Line | Magic in the Planning

Royal Palace (Disney Dream) – This restaurant is very similar to the Royal Court on the Disney Fantasy. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, it serves French-inspired, continental fare, and is inspired by Disney royalty.

Tiana’s Place (Disney Wonder) – Inspired by Princess Tiana and New Orleans, this restaurant comes to life during dinner with live jazz music and character appearances while serving Louisiana-inspired, Creole and Cajun food.

Triton’s (Disney Wonder) – Inspired by Ariel and her father King Triton, here you will dine “under the sea” enjoying classic American cooking during breakfast and lunch and continental cuisine for dinner.

Worlds of Marvel (Disney Wish) – This restaurant is truly unique and takes guests straight into “an action-packed Avengers mission that unfolds around you.” It serves a menu inspired by the MCU, including Wakanda.

Making the Most of Your Character Breakfast Experience at Magic Kingdom

1. preparing for your visit.

  • Autograph Books: Bring an autograph book or purchase one at the park. Character breakfasts provide intimate moments for characters to sign autographs, creating a cherished keepsake of your magical experience.
  • Cameras Ready: Have your camera or smartphone fully charged and easily accessible. You’ll want to capture every magical moment, from the food to the decor and, most importantly, the character interactions.
  • Arrive Early: If your reservation is before the park opens or right at opening time, plan to arrive at the Magic Kingdom entrance early. This ensures you have ample time to enter the park and make your way to the restaurant without rushing.

2. Navigating Dietary Restrictions

  • Advance Notice: When booking your reservation online or through the My Disney Experience app, note any dietary restrictions. Disney is exceptional at accommodating special dietary needs, including allergies, vegetarian, and vegan options.
  • Speak with Your Server: Upon arrival at the restaurant, remind your server of any dietary restrictions. They can provide detailed information on suitable menu items and any possible modifications to dishes.

3. Celebrating Special Occasions

  • Mention Celebrations at Booking: If you’re celebrating a special occasion, such as a birthday, anniversary, or first visit, mention this when you make your reservation. Disney restaurants often acknowledge these moments with a small gesture, such as a cupcake or a celebratory song.
  • Customizable Cakes: For an extra special celebration, consider ordering a customized cake. This can be done in advance through the Disney World website or by calling the cake hotline at (407) 827-2253 . Remember, this requires additional planning and may not be available at all dining locations.

Interacting with Characters

  • Encourage Polite Interactions: Teach children (and remind adults!) to be polite and patient during character visits. Characters make their way to every table, ensuring everyone has a moment for interaction.
  • Be Ready for Characters: Characters can appear at any moment during your meal. Keep autograph books open to a blank page and pens ready, and have your camera on the table to avoid scrambling at the last minute.

10 Best Magic Kingdom Restaurants: Ranking Disney World's Best Dining Spots

Looking for the best Magic Kingdom restaurants to fill up your dining plans at Disney World? We’ve ranked our favorite places to eat when visiting Magic Kingdom so you know which restaurants to add to your list — and which to skip!

Dining is an integral part of the Walt Disney World experience. Forget all your preconceived notions of theme park food. This isn’t cardboard pizza and flavorless burgers. Nay, all of Disney World, and especially Magic Kingdom, is teeming with delicious restaurants, both Table-Service (sit-down) and Quick-Service (fast and easy), worthy of your dollars.

But what are the best Magic Kingdom restaurants, and which ones aren’t worth your time? While we haven’t had a truly  bad experience at any of the restaurants at Magic Kingdom, we do have our favorites. We narrowed down the full list of Magic Kingdom restaurants (31 at the time of publication) to our top 10.

To determine the best restaurants at Magic Kingdom, we considered the quality of the food, the menu itself, the price (and accompanying portion sizes), immersion and theming, and any extras that make a Disney experience magical, like character dining or entertainment.

What Are the Best Magic Kingdom Restaurants?

By our rankings, the best restaurants at Magic Kingdom are:

  • Jungle Navigation Co. Ltd Skipper Canteen
  • Be Our Guest Restaurant
  • The Plaza Restaurant
  • The Crystal Palace
  • Cinderella’s Royal Table
  • Cheshire Café
  • Casey’s Corner
  • Main Street Bakery
  • Liberty Tree Tavern
  • The Friar’s Nook

We also had a few honorable mentions:

  • Sleepy Hollow
  • The Diamond Horseshoe
  • Columbia Harbour House
  • Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe
  • Gaston’s Tavern
  • Aloha Isle and Sunshine Tree Terrace

10 Best Restaurants at Magic Kingdom — And Why We Chose Them

Curious about our choices for the top Magic Kingdom restaurants? We’ve broken down why we like each of our choices, including what to order and what you can’t miss about the experience.

Jungle Navigation Co. Ltd Skipper Canteen : Best Overall Restaurant at Magic Kingdom

Skipper Canteen in Adventureland is the best Magic Kingdom restaurant, hands down. Photo by Cliff Wang

  • What to order:  Brazilian Cheese Bread, Senegali Sal’s Short Rib
  • What you can’t miss:  Classic Skipper jokes and immersive theming
  • Location:  Adventureland
  • Pricing: $$

Jungle Navigation Co. Ltd Skipper Canteen — or just Skipper Canteen for short — is the best restaurant at Magic Kingdom, irrefutably. This is a Table-Service meal, which means you’ll need an Advanced Dining Reservation (ADR), but because it’s tucked away back in Adventureland and doesn’t have the same appeal to kids as other heavy hitters like Cinderella’s Royal Table and Be Our Guest Restaurant, it’s actually not too challenging to book a meal here.

The experience at Skipper Canteen is a continuation of what you’ll encounter on Jungle Cruise (did I mention that Jungle Cruise is the best ride at Magic Kingdom?). That means it’s got amazing theming, almost like a museum full of artifacts discovered by Dr. Albert Falls on his adventures. And much like the Skippers aboard Jungle Cruise, the waitstaff at Skipper Canteen are chock full of good (bad) jokes throughout your meal.

Oh, and what a meal. The Skipper Canteen menu is inspired by the cuisine of Asia, Africa, and South America. Picky eaters might struggle to find something to their liking here, but for the adventurous, there are plenty of tasty bites (like that Brazilian Cheese Bread, a secret item not on the menu!). And Adventurers Club fans will be happy to know that you can order a beer here called Kungaloosh, brewed specially for Walt Disney World. Read our full Skipper Canteen review

Be Our Guest Restaurant: Best for High-End Dining at Magic Kingdom

Be Our Guest Restaurant offers upscale dining inside Beast’s Castle at Magic Kingdom. Photo by Cliff Wang

  • What to order:  French Onion Soup, Center-cut Filet Mignon, Chocolate Tart
  • What you can’t miss:  The utter immersion that is Beast’s Castle
  • Location:  Fantasyland
  • Pricing: $$$$

Be Our Guest is one of the hardest ADRs to snag, and it’s also one of the most expensive meals at Magic Kingdom. The three-course prix fixe meal is $70 for adults (10 and up) and $41 per child, plus tax and tip. But oh, how it’s worth it. Be Our Guest is easily the most upscale dining experience at Magic Kingdom, with a French-inspired menu that includes octopus, filet mignon, and macarons. Weary parents can enjoy a long list of champagnes, wines, and beers — and Be Our Guest earned notoriety for offering the Squids Revenge cocktail at the start of the 50th Anniversary Celebration .

Fans of  Beauty and the Beast will not be disappointed by any of the three dining areas: the Castle Gallery, West Wing, or Grand Ballroom. But of course, if you have a choice, the Grand Ballroom is the place to be, as it evokes memories of that stunning scene from the film. And yes, you  can try the Grey Stuff (it’s delicious!) as part of a dessert (the Chocolate Tart or some allergy-friendly options).

The Plaza Restaurant: Best for Picky Eaters at Magic Kingdom

  • What to order:  Home-style Meatloaf, The Main Street Burger, Dark Chocolate-Banana Bread Pudding with Soy Milk Frozen Dessert
  • What you can’t miss:  Classic comfort food dining
  • Location:  Main Street, U.S.A.

The Plaza Restaurant feels like classic Disney. You’ll find it along Main Street, U.S.A., giving it a turn-of-the-century vibe replete with Art Nouveau touches. It’s a Table-Service meal, so you’ll want advanced reservations, but unlike Skipper Canteen and Be Our Guest, which boast menus that are less approachable to those who fuel themselves on chicken nuggets and mac and cheese, The Plaza Restaurant has a menu that everyone, even picky eaters, will love.

Loaded fries, anyone? Photo by Tina Chiu

The difference? Unlike other theme park restaurants serving up classic American fare like burgers, chili, meatloaf, and chicken sandwiches, The Plaza Restaurant’s food quality scores high marks. And while dining inside gives you a welcome, air-conditioned reprieve from that Florida heat, you can also elect for an outdoor table, giving you stunning views of Cinderella Castle while you eat.

The Crystal Palace: Best Buffet at Magic Kingdom

The Crystal Palace is made for fans of Winnie the Pooh. Photo by Jeff Chiu

  • What to order:  Buffet — get whatever looks good!
  • What you can’t miss: Winnie the Pooh and friends
  • Pricing: $$$

One of the biggest appeals of The Crystal Palace is the character dining . Being able to knock out a hearty sit-down meal  and meet Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, Piglet, and co. all in one go is a serious time-saver.

Meeting Tigger is a highlight here. Photo by Brett Svenson

If you’re looking for an all-you-can-eat buffet to get the most out of your budget, The Crystal Palace has you covered. You’ll find carving stations (get the prime rib), salads, fresh vegetables, and mashed potatoes. Plus all the desserts you can stomach. Read our full Crystal Palace review.

Cinderella’s Royal Table: Best Princess Character Dining at Magic Kingdom

A look inside Cinderella’s Royal Table. Photo courtesy of Disney Parks Blog

  • What to order:  Charcuterie, Magic Carpet Ride, and The Clock Strikes Twelve
  • What you can’t miss: Your favorite Disney Princesses
  • Location:  Inside Cinderella Castle

One of Magic Kingdom’s most expensive restaurants is also one of Magic Kingdom’s  best restaurants. Like The Crystal Palace, Cinderella’s Royal Table is known for its character dining. This is the best way to see your favorite Disney Princesses , including Cinderella, Aurora, Snow White, and Ariel. If you’re lucky, you may get to dine with Belle or Jasmine. Reservations for Cinderella’s Royal Table are a must (and really hard to get). You’re dining inside Cinderella Castle after all.

The major downside of Cinderella’s Royal Table is the price . With four people over the age of 10, you’re looking at a bill of roughly $336 — and that’s without tax or tip. The menu is prix fixe, and the food is decent, but if forced to choose, we’d go with Be Our Guest’s French-inspired menu when throwing down the big bucks. You’re not so much paying for the food as you are the experience. And don’t worry: Even though mussels and chickpeas crowd the menu for adults, kids can order familiar favorites like chicken nuggets.

Cheshire Café: Best Snacks at Magic Kingdom

  • What to order:  Cheshire Cat Tail and All Mixed Up Slushy
  • What you can’t miss: Alice in Wonderland  theming

You’ve got lots of options for snacks at Walt Disney World, from Mickey Bars to Dole Whip. And while Sleepy Hollow (and that holy of holy Spring Roll Cart) offers great options and Storybook Treats has the scrumptious Peter Pan Float, our must-go place for sweets at Magic Kingdom is Cheshire Café.

Why? Three words: Cheshire Cat Tail. This is the dessert of desserts at Magic Kingdom. It may not enjoy the same fame as Dole Whip or churros, but it’s colorful, quirky, and delicious. Plus, you can wash it down with an All Mixed Up Slushy. How refreshing!

Casey’s Corner: Best for Nostalgia at Magic Kingdom

Casey’s Corner caters to baseball fans. Photo by Judd Helms

  • What to order:  All-Beef Hot Dog or Walt’s Chili-Cheese All-Beef Foot-long Hot Dog
  • What you can’t miss: A piano player tickling the ivories

Casey’s Corner seemingly has limited appeal, specializing in hot dogs, hot dogs, and, well, more hot dogs. But here you can get a variety of (really good) hot dog options, even plant-based options. Walt’s Chili-Cheese All-Beef Foot-long Hot Dog pays homage to Walt Disney himself and includes Walt’s Favorite Chili Recipe. Plus, a staple of any Disney World vacation is listening to the Casey’s Corner pianist tickling the ivories. This is a can’t-miss experience.

The piano player is a hallmark of Casey’s Corner. Photo by Laurie Sapp

Fans of Disney deep cuts might even make the connection that the restaurant is inspired by the “Casey at Bat” vignette from one of the earlier Disney animated classics , Make Mine Music . Get to Casey’s Corner early enough in the day, and you might even get to take part in the “first pitch” when the restaurant opens.

Main Street Bakery: Best Breakfast at Magic Kingdom

Main Street Bakery is home to Starbucks at Magic Kingdom. Photo by Courtney Reynolds

  • What to order:  Mickey Cinnamon Roll
  • What you can’t miss: All the Starbucks

There’s no better way to start a day at Magic Kingdom than with a Mickey Cinnamon Roll in the Hub in front of Cinderella Castle. Just be prepared to stand in long lines to get it. Main Street Bakery is especially busy right when Magic Kingdom opens, given its location on Main Street and the fact that it’s the only place to get Starbucks at Magic Kingdom .

Liberty Tree Tavern: Most Filling Meal at Magic Kingdom

  • What to order:  Patriot’s Platter
  • What you can’t miss: American history on full display
  • Location:  Liberty Square

History buffs and fans of massive Thanksgiving meals will both be happy with a sit-down meal at Liberty Tree Tavern. The restaurant pays tribute to our nation’s founders with theming reminiscent of Colonial Williamsburg, with brick fireplaces, candelabra chandeliers, and wood paneling.

Salad and bread at Liberty Tree Tavern. Photo by Brett Svenson

When you dine, you’ll choose from six rooms representing six important founders:

  • George Washington
  • Thomas Jefferson
  • Benjamin Franklin
  • Paul Revere
  • John Paul Jones

And while the theming is a nice touch (and decidedly different from Disney Princesses or a cartoon mouse), it’s the food that keeps bringing us back. The meals here are so filling that you might have to be rolled out. The menu is prix fixe, with options ranging from salads and toffee cake to the Patriot’s Platter, which is ripe with turkey, pot roast, and pork (plus vegetables — yes, you have to eat them!).

The Friar’s Nook: Best Quick Meal at Magic Kingdom

Get lunch to go at The Friar’s Nook. Photo by Laurie Sapp

  • What to order:  Creamy Bacon Macaroni & Cheese Tots and the Mr. Toad Dome Cake
  • What you can’t miss: Mobile Order (it’s a major time-saver)

If your ideal day at Magic Kingdom is  go, go, go so you can fit in as many rides, cavalcades, and selfies as possible, skip the sit-down meals. Instead, put in a Mobile Order while you’re in line for Peter Pan’s Flight, then head over to The Friar’s Nook right after to grab your meal and go.

Honorable Mentions

While these restaurants didn’t make our list of the 10 best Magic Kingdom restaurants, we thought they deserved recognition for something special they bring to the Disney World experience:

  • Sleepy Hollow:  Where else are you going to get a Fresh Fruit Waffle Sandwich?
  • The Diamond Horseshoe:  The Diamond Horseshoe can be a little pricy for the quality of food, but it’s actually one of the cheapest spots to grab a beer in Magic Kingdom . And on a long hot day of toting your kids around from ride to ride, that beer is certainly rewarding.
  • Columbia Harbour House:  If you’re looking for seafood in Magic Kingdom, this is the number one spot.
  • Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe:  This opening-day restaurant serves up delicious Tex-Mex eats over in Frontierland.
  • Gaston’s Tavern:  Be Our Guest is an amazing experience, but it’s expensive. If you want a taste of the Grey Stuff but don’t have the time or money to spend on Be Our Guest Restaurant, pop into Gaston’s Tavern. We highly recommend LeFou’s Brew!
  • Aloha Isle and Sunshine Tree Terrace:  Aloha Isle is the best spot to get a Dole Whip at Magic Kingdom, but fans of Orange Bird would be remiss to skip Sunshine Tree Terrace. (Don’t sleep on that Orange Cream Soft-serve Cup!)

Full List of Magic Kingdom Restaurants

So we’ve rattled off our favorite restaurants at Magic Kingdom and even included some runners-up. But everyone’s tastebuds and preferences are different.

If you want to journey off our list, be our guest! (See what we did there?) Here’s the full list of Magic Kingdom restaurants that you have to choose from:

  • Auntie Gravity’s Galactic Goodies
  • Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe
  • Golden Oak Outpost
  • Jungle Navigation Co. Ltd. Skipper Canteen
  • Liberty Square Market

  • Plaza Ice Cream Parlor
  • Prince Eric’s Village Market
  • Storybook Treats
  • Sunshine Tree Terrace
  • The Lunching Pad
  • Tomorrowland Terrace Restaurant
  • Tony’s Town Square Restaurant

  • Westward Ho

Note: Some restaurants on this list may be temporarily closed due to ongoing COVID-19 changes. While the façade of Aunt Polly’s Dockside Inn remains on Tom Sawyer Island, the restaurant is closed.
