DAY 1: PORT WASHINGTON, WI

Located on Lake Michigan, the charming community of Port Washington has been described as having “a New England fishing village charm.” D

DAY 2: STURGEON BAY, WI

Ascend the Port Washington Lighthouse (optional) and continue to Manitowoc to explore the Wisconsin Maritime Museum including a docent-guided tour of USS Cobia, the nation’s most completely restored WWII submarine. This afternoon, sample Award-winning wines at picturesque von Stiehl Winery, Wisconsin’s oldest winery, overlooking the Algoma Harbor. Enjoy free time in the lovely lakeside community of Sturgeon Bay and the hospitality and amenities of the waterfront Stone Harbor Resort, home for the next three nights. B, D

DAY 3: DOOR COUNTY

Take a scenic drive through Peninsula State Park, the crown jewel of Wisconsin state parks, including a guided tour of one of the five historical Peninsula lighthouses. Travel to the vibrant town of Fish Creek, the “country’s most walkable village” with amazing galleries, gift shops and casual outdoor eateries. Enjoy time to explore and eat lunch on your own; try one of their farm-to-table menus! This afternoon captures the spirit of Door Country on a “Fish Creek Boat Tour” that combines scenery, wildlife, and human history. View the beautiful homes along “Millionaire’s (Cottage) Row,” then from Chambers Island “thread the needle” between Adventure and Strawberry Islands. Learn about the unique history of Sven’s Bluff, the 1900’s girls Camp Menagha and Door County’s early European settlers. Complete the day with an authentic Door County fish boil where we’ll watch the sunset and be entertained by the famous “boil over.” B, D

DAY 4: DOOR COUNTY

Discover the Lake Michigan side of the peninsula with sandy beaches and rocky shoreline cliffs. Tour Bjorklunden’s Boynton Chapel and enjoy a leisurely walk along the shore in Whitefish Dunes State Park and learn about the limestone sea caves that are nestled along the shore. In Sister Bay, lunch at the famous Al Johnson’s Swedish Restaurant where you will find goats grazing on the sod roof! This evening is yours to relax at the Stone Harbor Resort, take a stroll along the lake or into Sturgeon Bay. B, L

DAY 5: WISCONSIN

Say farewell to Door County and stop for a behind the scenes tour of the famous Lambeau Field, home of the Green Bay Packers. In Racine, tour the SC Johnson Company HQ, including the 1939 Frank Lloyd Wright designed Administration Building, which has been recognized as one of the top 25 buildings of the 20th century. Continue for overnight in Kenosha, WI. B, D

DAY 6: RETURN HOME

Of course no visit to Wisconsin is complete without cheese! So before departing Wisconsin, visit a local cheese house for delicious samples and an opportunity to purchase favorites. Then it’s homeward bound – refreshed and rejuvenated from our Midwest Cape Cod experience. B

Orange luggage tags are provided and are to be placed on your “checked luggage” (large bag). You do not need a tag for your carry-on bag, for which you will be responsible for taking on and off the coach. There is limited space in the cabin of the coach, so unless you require your carry-on bag while traveling, we will stow it in the luggage compartment.

Important Information:

New reservations will require a $250 per person deposit unless otherwise noted. As always, your deposit is still fully refundable for any reason until final payment. We are happy to accept cash, check (preferred) or credit card (Visa, Mastercard, Discover) for your deposit.

Throughout 2021 we limited capacity on all our tours. This policy was so overwhelmingly popular by Sunrise travelers, we have made it permanent. In 2022 and beyond, we will limit the capacity on our motorcoaches to 80%. Most Sunrise Tours travel on 50-seat coaches with extra legroom, which means guests will enjoy extra legroom AND at least 6-8 empty seats. In the rare cases when we charter a 55-seat coach, there will be at least 10 open seats on the bus.

Our popular on-board refreshment service on travel days will feature a variety of soda, beer, wine spritzers, juices and sparkling water choices served in recyclable aluminum cans. This is a safe and eco-conscious way for us to deliver the ever-popular Sunrise Tours “happy hour” on tour. We do not typically serve bottled water and ask that while on tour you be responsible for your own hydration and consider the Sunrise Tours drink service a welcome refreshment.

“As I have traveled with other companies, I have made some mental comparisons. DJ Country Tours is well-organized, hotels were all average or above average and one ELEGANT. Rest breaks were well-spaced and food stops along the trip afforded enough choices.

I have found one large difference traveling with Janine compared to travel with other companies. Janine, not being only employed by DJ, she is the owner and she is the company. Janine has an investment in making a tour successful and enjoyable. She reacts on the spot when changes need to be made, when plans get changed, rest stops are closed, bridges washed out, and any other interruption that inevitably comes about on a trip. Response is timely when the ‘boss is on the bus’. When this happens with other companies it usually meant more time represented to get approval of a change, new direction from the office, etc.

DDC 2022 Visitor Guide Now Available

Destination Door County (DDC) released the Door County 2022 Official Destination Guide in conjunction with National Plan for Vacation Day on Jan. 25.

DDC has created an annual destination guide for decades to provide visitors with travel information, editorial content, travel ideas and details about Door County businesses and organizations .

“We’ve added some great new content to this year’s guide about topics we’ve not covered before and hope it inspires travelers to explore differently,” said Julie Gilbert , DDC’s president and CEO. 

Readers will find a new section on barrier-free travel , Door County’s Leave No Trace 7 Principles for traveling responsibly and information about First Nations in Door County.

Destination Door County Releases 2021 Official Destination Guide

Destination Door County (DDC), the tourism marketing & management organization for Door County, is excited to announce the release of the  2021 Official Destination Guide  ahead of National Plan For Vacation Day 2021.

One of the Midwest’s premier travel destinations offers a free destination guide to help aide visitors in planning a memorable trip to Door County. The 2021 edition has been reimagined and dedicates the first 30+ pages to engaging editorial content and breathtaking photography to show off the best of what the county has to offer. Informative stories and travel tidbits are scattered throughout the guide as well.

Detailed travel information can be found in special sections as well as business listings on the arts, history & culture, recreation, dining, shopping, lodging, services, group travel, event planning and profiles of the communities that make up Door County. The panoramic cover image of this year’s edition features the pier and North Pierhead Lighthouse at the entrance to the Sturgeon Bay Ship Canal along Lake Michigan.

Visitors will also find helpful tips to plan visits during different times of the year in Door County, such as during blossom time in the spring. Learn about Door County’s new Leave No Trace 7 Principles for traveling responsibly, find out what unique foods are in Door County, get tips for rainy day activities and even learn why that special stretch of Hwy 42 in northern Door County is so curvy.

The Door County 2021 Official Destination Guide is the primary fulfillment piece mailed and distributed outside of the county to visitors requesting information by phone and online through Destination Door County’s web site,  www.DoorCounty.com . 215,000 guides have been printed for distribution in 2021.

Guides can be found at visitor centers, travel agencies and other outlets in Wisconsin and throughout the Midwest. A digital version of the guide is available at DoorCounty.com and is great on mobile and tablet devices as well as desktop and laptop computers. Users can virtually flip through pages and will find hyperlinks and more about featured businesses and attractions.

Within the county, guides are distributed at the Door County Welcome Center, 1015 Green Bay Road in Sturgeon Bay, and at other community visitor centers throughout Door County. Local businesses are encouraged to make the complimentary 2021 guides available for their customers as well. The Paper Boy delivery service has begun distributing to area businesses and will continue delivery to businesses that are currently open over the next few weeks.  Door County businesses that would like to specifically request delivery may contact Destination Door County at 920-743-4456.
