J. Cole apologizes to Kendrick Lamar for 'lame' diss '7 Minute Drill': 'I was conflicted'

'We Don't Trust You' and 'We Still Don't Trust You' vs. Drake: Diss tracks explained

Future and Metro Boomin's "We Don't Trust You," released March 22, and "We Still Don't Trust You," released April 12, unleashed grievances other rappers had with Toronto rapper Drake.

Lamar, Cole and Drake are widely recognized as their rap class' "Big Three," the most recognizable stars in the genre over the past decade. Cole referred to himself, Drake (Aubrey Graham) and Lamar (K. Dot) as the "big three" in modern rap in Drake's 2023 song "First Person Shooter."

Lamar shut down the "big three" line on the "We Don't Trust You" track "Like That." In the song, he called out "First Person Shooter" by name and said "it's just big me" when it comes to rap titans.

Following the diss, J. Cole dropped a surprise album, "Might Delete Later," which included "7 Minute Drill," where Cole alluded to hearing about Lamar's diss, rapping, "I got a phone call, they say that somebody dissing / You want some attention, it come with extensions."

"He still doing shows but fell off like 'The Simpsons,'" the North Carolina rapper continued, adding that Lamar's first album was "classic" and his latest was "tragic."

But two days later,  at his Dreamville Festival,  J. Cole told his home state crowd during a headlining set that his diss track was a "lame" and "goofy" decision, in  videos captured by attendees .

J. Cole later appeared as a guest on the "We Still Don't Trust You" track "Red Leather," a seven-minute song that features an apparent swipe at Drake.

"Kept my nose out the streets, but I love to get a whiff / Of the action, with risk comes attraction / The blicks get to blastin’, I turn into a track star,” Cole raps on the track, who also said that his "story's more clever, my similes was better."

Rapper A$AP Rocky, who is the longtime boyfriend of Drake's ex  Rihanna,  also took shots at Drake on the "We Still Don't Trust You" track "Show of Hands," saying the Canadian rapper's latest music "came and went" and he didn't "trust" him.

The Weeknd joined the band wagon on "We Still Don't Trust You," remarking on the track "All to Myself" that he's glad never "signed (his) life away" to Drake's OVO label. He also took aim at Drake's "shooters," joking that they're too busy "making TikToks."

Future didn't let his features have all the fun. On the track "This Sunday," Future seemingly interpolates the chorus of Drake’s 2016 song "Feel No Ways" by telling his former "Life Is Good" collaborator that he doesn't care if Drake "feel a way" about all the disses.

Drake has yet to issue a formal response to the diss tracks, although a rumored single allegedly called "Push Ups" was leaked on social media Saturday that seemingly addresses Lamar and Metro Boomin.

Paul McCartney’s psychedelic double-decker bus used during Wings’ 1972 tour up for auction

A PSYCHEDELIC bus used by Paul McCartney during a tour of Europe is set to go under the hammer.

The garish double-decker took Wings on the run across nine countries for 25 shows in 1972.

Paul McCartney’s restored 1972 Wings tour bus appears at Hard Rock Piccadilly Circus ahead of auction

Wanting to take their family road, the band sourced a 1953 Bristol KSW5G open-topped bus to drive them across the continent.

They asked renowned artist Geoffrey Cleghorn to jazz it up with a paint job inspired by The Beatles ' Yellow Submarine and Magical Mystery Tour album covers.

Along with a good lick of paint, the interior of the bus was also smartened up to allow the group's children to play and sleep.

It took Wings across the whole mammoth 7,500-mile road trip for the Wings Over Europe tour in 25 cities between July 9, 1972 and August 24.

Beatles legend McCartney previously said: "We knew we were going to tour in Europe and that the weather would be nice, and the idea of being stuck in a bus all the time, going from city to city, hotel to hotel, wasn’t too appealing.

"So we decided to travel around in an open-top bus and get some sunshine as we travelled from one place to another."

It was then returned to service for several years, having previously been used for Chelmsford bus routes and to take holidaymakers to Butlins.

At one point, the infamous bus was put on display outside a rock-themed cafe in Tenerife.

In 2019, the bus was bought and later restored in 2022, when it was unveiled at the NEC Classic Motor Show that November.

Now the giant piece of memorabilia is looking for a new home and is being auctioned off by Car and Classic .

Wings' drummer Denny Seiwell even donated his 1972 Wings touring trunk, which comes with the bus, and each band member's name is emblazoned on the back.

The bus paintwork has been painstakingly restored, and the interior returned to how it was during the tour.

It is just one of three Beatles-related vehicles that are custom painted, alongside John Lennon’s psychedelic Rolls-Royce and George Harrison’s similarly decorated Mini.

The auction starts on April 22 - but eager Beatles fans can submit a pre-bid before then.

WEATHER ALERT

A special weather statement in effect for Val Verde Region

Here’s what happened to the double-decker tour buses downtown, city sightseeing of san antonio closed shop in january.

Spencer Heath , Digital Journalist

SAN ANTONIO – Remember the bright, red double-decker tour buses downtown? Well, they have gone out of business, and a new company has taken their place.

David Strainge, founder of City Sightseeing of San Antonio, started the trolley company in 2010, according to the San Antonio Report . He opened the company as a franchise of the international tour bus operator based in Seville, Spain.

City Sightseeing closed shop in early January. Since the closure, Strainge has branched off into other business opportunities.

This has made way for Historic Tours of America to bring Old Town Trolley Tours to San Antonio.

“The timing could not have been more perfect. We have been looking to expand and the opportunity presented itself in this amazing city,” said Historic Tours of America’s CEO Chris Belland.

Old Town Trolley Tours, featuring orange and green-style busses, offers guests a 90-minute narrated tour with 14 stops throughout San Antonio.

The 12-mile tour ride includes stops at the Alamo Plaza, Japanese Tea Garden, San Antonio Zoo, Witte Museum, Botanical Gardens, The Pearl, San Antonio Museum of Art, Veteran’s Memorial Park, The Tobin Center, Buckhorn Saloon, E. Houston Street, Spanish Governor’s Palace, Historic Market Square, Tower of the Americas, Hemisfair, The Alamo, and the Crockett Hotel.

“San Antonio is a city with incredible history, attractions, sites, and fabulous people which is what we look for when going into a city,” said Belland.

Old Town Trolley Tours also offers a ‘Hometown Pass’ to Bexar County residents, granting free access when bringing an adult paying guest, according to a press release.

In addition to San Antonio, the release mentioned Old Town Trolley Tours also operates in Key West, Boston, Washington, Savannah, St. Augustine, San Diego, and Nashville.

Triumph Over Double Tours

double 0 tour

It’s the end of the variation and you’ve just finished two minutes of jumping and turning that would make even a ballet superstar collapse from fatigue. But before you can take your bow and bask in the audience’s applause, you must do one final movement. Only this one requires you to jump and turn in the air at the same time: the dreaded double tour en l’air.

Even if you’ve never done this step, there’s no doubt you’ve seen it. Usually initiated from a fifth position, the male dancer pliés, presses off the floor, does two tight rotations in the air and changements—all before the audience has had the chance to blink. From Giselle to Theme and Variations , this step is classical ballet’s equivalent to a period at the end of a sentence.

Why then does this common jump create so many problems for male dancers? Probably because it uses every inch of the body and requires coordination, power and even a dash of personality: There’s a lot to think about while spinning in the air!

Building the Base

No need to get overwhelmed. Instead, start with your foundation. Just like a rocket, a double tour cannot blast off without a solid base to launch from. No matter what position you’re going to end in—whether on the knee, in arabesque or on your head for that matter—the key to unlocking freedom in the air starts on the ground.

When I joined American Ballet Theatre, I analyzed the technical wizards around me who had successfully tackled the tour. One thing remained constant—the men with the tightest position in the air and the most solid landing took off from the cleanest fifth position.

While pliéing before a tour, keep the body lined up from shoulders, to hips, to feet. If there is too much weight on one foot or the other, you will have an uneven takeoff, sending you on a diagonal, rather than straight up. Likewise, if you hinge at the waist while in the plié or let your upper body dip forward, you’ll have further to go in order to achieve the correct position in the air.

One thing dancers often forget in a step as difficult as a double tour is to breathe through the preparation. As with any jump, the plié preparation should be as spongy as possible while maintaining the integrity of the position. Sometimes it even helps to let out an audible breath before the jump begins; a release of energy before the gathering of energy in the air.

The setup should take place en face, or facing front. Many men end up turning the body to effacé while in the plié in an effort to start the rotation while still on the ground. That’s cheating! Instead, think of preparing croisé and chances are you’ll end up en face.

Up, Up And Away

Once a solid preparation is established, it’s time to begin coordinating the relationship between takeoff and the position in the jump.

A turn in the air requires you to free up your spot and have a strong position with your arms, just like a turn on the ground. While the arms can be anywhere a choreographer dreams up, a simple first position is most common in the classroom.

Even though this position is thought to be a very round one a little above the navel, a double tour often requires closing the arms slightly to help keep the center of rotation tight. The exact position will differ dancer to dancer, but regardless of whether you over-cross your arms (if they are particularly long), keep the shoulders open.

Because of the speed of a double tour, it’s essential to get to the position in the air as quickly as possible. This includes initiating the spot immediately, switching the feet at the beginning of the jump—helping the energy turn in the air—and bringing the arms into a secure position. This must all happen simultaneously. Don’t jump straight up and then turn, because by the time you start rotating you’ll already be on your way back down!

As for your legs, make sure to keep the position crossed as in a soubresaut. From the moment you press off the ground, scoop the feet under and think of energy extending from the top of your hip to your toenails. Even though you’ll want to anticipate the landing, don’t bend your legs too soon or the classical look will disappear.

As soon as you land in fifth, it’s time to inject a little personality! Open the arms, palms up, to second position. You can even smile! Don’t be afraid to let out a breath and sink into a well-placed fifth-position plié that’s as luscious as when you began.

The most important thing to remember is to not get discouraged. I struggled for years with double tours and had many days when it seemed impossible to just jump straight up! At times like this, it’s best to take a breath and go back to the basics. Start by doing changements, then quarter turns, then half turns, single tours and ultimately the double, building confidence along the way.

With thoughtful practice, you’ll soon be executing clean doubles. You might even be like Julio Bocca, who I watched execute triple tours on stage in front of thousands. Then you’ll really have an excuse to be tired at the end of a variation!

‘A Different World’ Hits the Road to Help Historically Black Colleges

The beloved series was set at a fictional historically Black university. Now, cast members have reunited to visit and support real-life schools.

Six people sit on sofas posing for a photo with buildings behind them

By Leigh-Ann Jackson

Picture a pampered socialite ostentatiously putting her generational wealth on display. Or an outspoken teenage activist leading a climate change protest. Or a charismatic opportunist luring people into his latest scam.

These descriptions apply equally to characters from “A Different World” — a sitcom that ran from 1987 to 1993 — and to today’s social media influencers. So it’s little wonder that the show, which streams on Amazon and Max, resonates with Gen Z.

The series began as a spinoff of “The Cosby Show” centered on Denise Huxtable (Lisa Bonet), and it became a hit in its own right .

“A Different World” broke ground by giving high visibility to an ensemble of aspirational Black young adults, following an eclectic cross-section of coeds attending Hillman College, a fictional historically Black university. There they dealt with typical collegiate growing pains — studying, partying, falling in love and stumbling into adulthood — and also with more serious subject matter, including racism, domestic abuse, gun violence, homelessness and mental health struggles.

“These things mattered, and these are issues which are still relevant today,” said Darryl M. Bell, who played the Hillman huckster Ron Johnson.

Now, more than three decades after the series finale, Bell and other core cast members, including Charnele Brown, Jasmine Guy, Kadeem Hardison, Dawnn Lewis, Cree Summer and Glynn Turman, have reunited for a campus tour of historically Black colleges and universities . Their mission is to raise awareness and enrollment for such institutions, to establish a “Different World” scholarship fund and, of course, to give newer, younger fans a chance to see their parents’ hand-me-down TV idols in person.

“The kids can watch it on their phones,” said Hardison, who played Dwayne Wayne, a gawky math whiz turned professor. “They can really tap in anywhere — that has given us a whole different life with it.” The show premiered 37 years ago, he noted, “so to think that it’s still doing good work is a bit of a dream.”

Bell said, “There’s nothing new under the sun: Everything has its cycle, and it comes back and you find it’s new again.” (That sentiment certainly holds true for many of the show’s wardrobe staples, like oversize blazers, baggy denim overalls and bomber jackets, all of which are back in style.)

The spark for the tour came in 2016, when several cast members made an appearance at Norfolk State University in Virginia. In the years that followed, Bell courted potential backers to fund a full-fledged college tour. (Guy, who played Whitley Gilbert, the show’s resident diva, playfully calls Bell the “office manager” of the group.)

Getting the stars on board was relatively easy. “This is family,” Summer said. “The majority of us hang out on purpose .” Teaming up with Cisco and Wells Fargo, and the nonprofits Student Freedom Initiative and Minds Matter , Bell lined up six tour stops this year at schools like Spelman College in Atlanta, Howard University in Washington, D.C., and, later this fall in Alabama, Tuskegee University and Alabama State University; he hopes to schedule 10 more visits in 2025. The events are free for students, faculty and alumni, and Bell said the group is considering opening some events to the public because of demand.

Jaden Jackson, a senior at Tuskegee, has seen every episode of “A Different World” and recently started rewatching them, inspired by the tour announcement. “It’s a classic,” she said. “It’s a show I’ll never get tired of.”

“When people think of H.B.C.U.s, they already have a picture of the type of people who go there,” she said. “But it’s such a diverse group of people, and the show does a good job of encapsulating that.” She has a particular affinity for Summer’s free-spirited character, Freddie: “To see someone like me onscreen — who acted like me, who I would often be compared to — that really appealed to me and made me excited to go to my H.B.C.U.”

The tour kicked off in Atlanta on Feb. 29, with cast members giving talks at Spelman, Clark Atlanta University and Morehouse College. Instagram posts from the events show crowds giving standing ovations, snapping cellphone photos and, at Clark Atlanta, greeting the cast with a marching band performance.

“The Spelman panel that we did at Sisters Chapel was off the chain,” Guy said. “I was shocked at their excitement, their verve and their vigor. I kept looking at everybody like, ‘Yo! They are treating us like rock stars or something. What is going on here?’”

Hardison likened the reception to an experience he had while accompanying his friend Lenny Kravitz on a concert tour of Japan in the late 1990s. “It took me back to when he went out onstage and the Japanese kids were screaming,” he said.

The Spelman chapel, which holds 1,000, was at capacity during the event, according to a spokeswoman. Helene D. Gayle, the president of Spelman, moderated a talk with the actors and a Q. and A. session afterward.

“When I first took on the role of president of Spelman, people would ask me, ‘What’s it like? How do you feel?’” Gayle said in an interview. “And I’d say, ‘Well, I feel like I am on the set of “A Different World” every day.’”

She said many of the students had heard of the show from older relatives and had watched it on streaming platforms. Adrian Crick, a Spelman freshman, said audience members were well versed in Hillman lore. One student serenaded the cast with her own version of the theme song.

“I hadn’t watched the show, but my mom said it’s an important cultural touchstone for Black people,” Crick said. “The level of production that Spelman, Morehouse and Clark put on for them indicated to me this is something to pay attention to, this is kind of historic .”

When the tour visited Howard last week, the campus was abuzz with “Hillman at Howard Day” activities, including step performances by fraternities and sororities and a fashion show in which students dressed as their favorite characters. (There were, of course, multiple pairs of flip-top sunglasses, Dwayne Wayne’s signature accessory.)

An estimated 1,400 attendees were at the main event at the school’s Cramton Auditorium, with many screaming and waving cardboard cutouts of the characters as the actors took the stage. Kim Coles, a star of “Living Single,” moderated a panel that included appearances by Karen Malina White, who appeared in the final season of “A Different World” (and was Miss Howard 1985), and by the “Cosby Show” actress Tempestt Bledsoe, who is Bell’s partner.

Sinbad chimed in via video and so did Debbie Allen, a Howard alumna who overhauled the series in its second season. Allen told the audience that “A Different World” mirrored her own college experiences and described the show as a vital voice for young Black America.

While the cast members were in Washington, they visited the White House to meet with Vice President Kamala Harris and appear in a video promoting the Biden administration’s student loan debt relief efforts .

Summer, who grew up in Canada, was unfamiliar with predominantly Black campuses before joining the cast at 18. She said getting the Hillman experience was the next best thing and now considers herself a champion of the schools.

“There’s a reason we’re on tour right now,” she said, noting that it was imperative to remind people that an H.B.C.U. “is an incredible place to get an education and an incredible place to secure and dive deeper into our culture.”

Gayle, the Spelman president, said that the Supreme Court’s 2023 affirmative action decision , which barred race-conscious college admissions policies, had made H.B.C.U.s even more indispensable.

“We’re at this moment where I think what we provide young people is perhaps more important than ever,” she said. “I hope that the tour can be part of that, as well — showing young Black people and their communities how important it is to be grounded in institutions that value them, that reflect who they are and reflect the excellence that is resonant within the African American community.”

‘it didn’t feel fair': max homa answers honestly (and professionally) about double bogey at masters.

  • Golf Channel Staff ,

Coming off a birdie at the 10 th hole and having survived the treacherous 11 th , Max Homa hit what he thought was a good shot into the center of the 12 th green at Augusta National.

At the time, Homa was two back of leader Scottie Scheffler. A par – at worst – at golf’s most famous par 3 and Homa was eyeing a possible second-nine run, right into the arm sleeves of the Masters’ green jacket.

But Homa’s tee shot at No. 12 bounded off the putting surface and into a bush. After a healthy search, Homa found his ball and had to take an unplayable lie. He made double bogey, effectively ending his bid at a maiden major title.

Homa tied for third, seven shots back of Scheffler. Asked about what happened on the fateful 9-iron, Homa offered two replies.

“The honest answer is, it didn’t feel fair. I hit a really good golf shot, and it didn’t feel fair. I’ve seen far worse just roll back down the hill,” he said.

“The professional answer is, these things happen.”

While he didn’t win, the 33-year-old notched his best result in golf’s four biggest events. In fact, after nine missed cuts in his first 16 majors, he’s earned back-to-back top-10s.

Not only that, he was in contention throughout the week at Augusta and got to experience a new level of pressure.

“It’s bittersweet, I guess, because I feel accomplished but I feel like it doesn’t really mean anything in the grand scheme of things. But I just feel like I learned. I feel like I took a big leap,” he said.

“The rhetoric on me, and this is from myself, as well, is I have not performed in [majors], and I performed for all four days. I didn’t throw a 65 in there and sneak my way in. I had to sleep on this every single day, this feeling and kind of this monkey on my back. For me, I think it’ll change some things, and then in other ways it’ll change nothing at all.”

In the morning, he’ll still wake up as Max Homa, the six-time PGA Tour winner, husband and father. He’ll also likely wake up with an increased appreciation for what he accomplished this past week – and, perhaps, a massive hangover.

“I haven’t drank in a really, really, really long time, but I’ve been planning it for Sunday after the Masters, so probably not great,” he said when asked how he’ll feel on Monday. “It’ll be all right.”

Double Dare Live Tour

  • Edit source
  • View history

The Double Dare Live Tour was a live, touring version of Double Dare , touring 1991 - 1993. [1] The tour replaced the earlier Double Dare Road Show and was itself replaced with the Family Double Dare Live Tour .

The tour was originally sponsored by Ralston Purina and sometimes called the Double Dare Double Chex Live Tour, because tickets were half off with two proofs of purchase from a box of Double Chex or Frosted Rice Chex Junior. [2] However, the sponsorship later switched over to Keebler, with tickets discounted with the UPCs from two packages of Keebler cookies. [3]

Description [ ]

Each show lasted about 90 minutes. [4] The show began with audience questions, quiz questions for the audience, and physical challenges involving about 40 participants. The second half was a full game of Double Dare . [5] [6]

Physical challenges included dumping sauce over a person in an over-sized bowl of noodles, [7] catching rubber chickens covered in chocolate syrup and feathers, catching pies in a pair of clown pants, [8] and smashing tossed eggs between cymbals while blindfolded. [9] The obstacles included The Juicer [7] and the Sundae Slide . [9] Other games included a milk chug-a-lug contest between two parents, with the loser getting pied by their kid. [8]

Participants were a combination of people selected through local promotions and people picked from the audience. [9] [5] When choosing from the audience, they looked for energetic, excited kids. [6] One local promotion used to pick participants was radio call-in contests. To win, they'd have to complete a challenge issued by Marc Summers. One women loaded her dryer with six pieces of silverware, a bottle of Lestoil, a cookie tray, and her new portable phone, and turned it on. Another woman cracked an egg on her head, put milk and chocolate in her mouth, and gargled. [8] In another radio call-in, four families won tickets for the show and competed in physical challenges at a local Burger King for the chance to play on stage. [10] In other cases, a simple drawing was used. [3]

Over the course of tour, they used 16,800 gallons of gak, 3,000 cans of whipped cream, 67,200 eggs, 1,600 gallons of pudding, and 3,520 pies. They also used 20,736 towels to clean up the mess. [1]

Three Guardians takeaways after wild cap to weekend series with Yankees

CLEVELAND, OHIO - APRIL 14: Andrés Giménez #0 of the Cleveland Guardians celebrates after hitting a walk-off sacrifice fly to right in the 10th inning to beat the New York Yankees at Progressive Field on April 14, 2024, in Cleveland, Ohio. CLEVELAND — In the 10th inning Sunday, with the New York Yankees and Cleveland Guardians exchanging haymakers in a chaotic series finale, Guardians manager Stephen Vogt turned to his bench coach and smiled.

“This is awesome,” Vogt said to Craig Albernaz.

Vogt has steered the Guardians to a 10-5 start. His club skidded through a doubleheader against the Yankees on Saturday but rebounded to salvage a wild 8-7 win Sunday. Vogt has been tested in his first two weeks as manager, navigating through injuries and inconsistent starting pitching while juggling how to deploy a cast of unproven position players. Sunday’s game pushed him even more, as Vogt cycled through relievers, emptied his bench and shifted guys around the diamond.

He relished every second of it.

“Of course it means a lot and it’s high intensity,” he said, “but it’s such a fun game.”

Comeback kids

As Logan Allen and an army of relievers cooled down in the clubhouse following their outings Sunday, they lived and died by the roar of the crowd. The fans’ reactions revealed what had unfolded on the field before the delayed broadcast on the clubhouse TVs did. The constant back-and-forth in the final few innings kept the pitchers guessing.

After the Guardians pulled off another come-from-behind win — this one requiring a pair of late-inning charges — players shouted “We don’t quit!” as they retreated to the clubhouse through the dugout tunnel. It was the theme of the week: The Guardians trailed at least 3-0 in each of the final five games of their homestand. They pulled out wins in two of them, both in 10 innings. In only one game were they decidedly defeated. It’s the sort of habit that shortens the lifespan of a manager or fan.

The rotation has been Cleveland’s weak link, a primary explanation for the sluggish starts. It obviously doesn’t help when the club’s ace, Shane Bieber , is home in Arizona with his right elbow in a protective contraption. Xzavion Curry and Ben Lively will join the rotation this week at Fenway Park, starting Monday and Wednesday, respectively. Cleveland’s starters are averaging fewer than five innings per start (72 2/3 innings in 15 games), which isn’t a healthy trend. The team needs more from Triston McKenzie and Tanner Bibee .

Credit the bullpen for keeping opposing lineups at bay, granting the offense a chance to mount a comeback. Hunter Gaddis and Cade Smith have combined for 16 2/3 scoreless innings, just as everyone expected. The Guardians’ bullpen owns a 1.88 ERA as a whole.

Double duty

Vogt was beaming about the double play that ended the Yankees’ half of the 10th, a prototypical 3-2-3 twin killing to neutralize another scoring threat. The longtime catcher — who also moonlighted as a first baseman and corner outfielder — lauded the athleticism demonstrated by two catchers: David Fry and Bo Naylor .

Ever seen a double play like this to save a run? #ForTheLand | #GuardiWins pic.twitter.com/xdJqWCP7v8 — Cleveland Guardians (@CleGuardians) April 14, 2024

Fry placed a perfect throw to the plate, where Naylor applied the tag, pirouetted and whipped a throw back to Fry, who scooped the one-hopper for the second out (and third of the inning). Fry, who shifted from first to catcher back to first during the game, credited Naylor’s presence of mind to even consider a throw to first while completing the tag at the plate.

“For (Fry) to make that throw on the run,” Vogt said, “and to have the IQ to get back to first base and for Bo to sweep tag, apply the tag, spin and throw it back — the amount of athleticism and baseball IQ in that play probably won’t get talked about enough. That should be No. 1 on ‘SportsCenter,’ MLB . Whatever the top plays are, that should be the top play.”

Revenge tour

Estevan Florial entered the interview room Sunday, and Fry yelled, “Revenge tour, baby!” Florial had one home run in 48 big-league games over parts of four seasons with the Yankees. Then he socked two homers in 24 hours against his former team, including a go-ahead shot in the eighth inning Sunday.

Estevan Florial smashes a go-ahead homer against his former team! 💪 pic.twitter.com/RcTp3GmCw1 — MLB (@MLB) April 14, 2024

With those two hacks, Florial boosted his wRC+ to 154 (meaning he’s been 54 percent more productive than the league-average hitter this season). Let’s toast to tiny, early-season sample sizes. Florial has totaled only 25 plate appearances. He’s had four walks, 10 strikeouts and those two homers, an apt demonstration of his skills and deficiencies.

“He makes really good swing decisions,” Vogt said. “He does punch out, but … there’s a big reason why he’s with us: the quality of his at-bats.”

The Guardians knew this would be an experiment when they traded pitcher Cody Morris for Florial over the winter, but with so few answers in the outfield, they felt it was a gamble worth taking. Before Saturday night, they had witnessed much of what the Yankees saw in brief spurts. Then he homered in consecutive games against New York to remind everyone why he was once a top prospect, why he’s able to produce silly numbers at Triple A and why teams can’t quit him. The question is whether he can find some modicum of consistency.

This team desperately needs someone other than Steven Kwan to emerge in the outfield. Tyler Freeman and Will Brennan are off to rough starts. Aside from some walks and wielding a rocket arm, Ramón Laureano hasn’t offered much yet. There’s ample opportunity for someone to get in a rhythm and seize regular playing time. Maybe Florial will be the one.

“The swings have been better and better,” Vogt said.
