Florida RV Route: Where to Stay and What to Do

While we weren’t able to go as far south as we’d wished and winter in Key West, we still very much enjoyed Florida for the entire month of January. Free camping, or “boondocking” is much harder to find in Florida and in the winter months it can be challenging to get reservations at the state parks and RV parks. So, if possible, book your stay well in advance.

Otherwise, it’s not impossible to get a few consecutive week days at the state parks. We jumped from state park to state park every 3-4 days, which wasn’t ideal but also allowed us to see a lot during the month. Anyway,  here is our Florida RV route . We hope it inspires you and helps you plan your RV adventures, too.

WHERE WE STAYED AND WHAT WE DID

Anastasia state park – st. augustine, fl.

RV and Jeep parked in lush foliage in Florida at Anastasia state park

Anastasia State Park is beautiful and surprisingly exotic feeling. The park has camp sites that are tucked between lush foliage, offering shade and privacy. Within the park are a variety of wildlife, birds and plants along the nature trails. The park is also within walking distance to the beach, which stretches for miles and miles. You can also walk or ride your bike to Highway A1A , where you can find a strip of great restaurants and local hang outs . We enjoyed lunch at Ospry Tacos paired with a beer right next door at Old Coast Ales.

Staying at Anastasia State Park will also put you within 3 miles of historic downtown St. Augustine . Anyone you ask who’s been there will tell you how incredible St. Augustine is. It’s the oldest city in the U.S., yet so vibrant and lively. The lights, the city plaza, the trolleys, and the Spanish colonial architecture make it so unique and charming. You can get lost strolling along the old city alleys, browsing through the boutique shops, and there are more restaurants than you can even imagine!

St. Augustine Bridge of Lions at sunset with sail boat

Here are a few activities we recommend near the park:

  • The St. Augustine Lighthouse
  • The Farmer’s Market (every Saturday morning from 8:30 am – 12:30 pm)
  • The Alligator Farm
  • The St. Augustine Amphitheater
  • St. Augustine Distillery
  • Castillo de San Marcos National Monument
  • Cap’s on the Water (a beautiful waterfront restaurant to enjoy happy hour and/or dinner for sunset)

Florida State Fairgrounds – Tampa, FL

We parked a few days here to attend the Florida RV SuperShow , which takes place every year in January. Here’s the website with all the details, in case you want to attend next year! It’s considered the greatest RV show in the nation and we sure had a lot of fun checking out all the new models of RVs, including our own 2018 Winnebago Navion 24D!

We didn’t stay in the Tampa area long, but we did stop by the  Manatee Viewing Center , which we highly recommend. It’s free to enter, and fun to see TONS of manatees gathered in the warm waters by the Big Bend Power Station. You can also pet stingrays, and they have a variety of other fun and educational activities.

Side note: On our way from Tampa to Fort De Soto, we stayed overnight at the Manatee County Rest Area and it was unlike any rest stop we’ve ever been to. Ocean views, quiet, night time security, and yep, FREE! The rest stops in this part of Florida are an experience you actually shouldn’t miss!

Fort De Soto Park Campground – St. Petersburg, FL

Jeep on the beach at sunset in Florida

Another thing we loved about staying at Fort De Soto was its proximity to St. Petersburg, Treasure Island, and Clearwater Beach . We took day trips and enjoyed the beautiful boardwalks, white sandy beaches, and laid back vacation vibes these areas offered. Clearwater was one of the most beautiful beaches we’ve ever seen! We will definitely return to this area!

John's Pass Village and Boardwalk

St. Andrews State Park – Panama City Beach, FL

the beach under St. Andrews pier at sunset on a cloudy night

This park is located in the heart of Panama City beach and right in the action, yet far enough away to find some peace in nature! While winter time is a little sleepy there, we enjoyed the quite and got the sense that there’s a pretty wild party scene during certain times of the year there. We were fortunate to get a waterfront site and if the weather had been a little clearer, we could have stepped outside our RV and gotten right on the water in a kayak ! St. Andrews also has two fishing piers, a jetty, a boat ramp two nature trails so there’s plenty of access to water and wildlife. Then at night, you’ll have a plethora of ocean front restaurants and bars to enjoy along the strip!

Topsail Hill Preserve State Park – Santa Rosa Beach, FL

Topsail Hill Preserve State Beach sunset

Another reason Topsail was one of our favorites was because of it’s proximity to Seaside, FL and Santa Rosa Beach. We enjoyed working at Sunrise coffee shop, directly across from Santa Rosa Beach, and had a beautiful walk along the water during our “lunch break”. It was some of the bluest water we’ve ever seen!

A few days later we decided to check out Seaside and had no idea what we were in for. If you only take one recommendation from this page, we hope that it’s to GO TO SEASIDE! Someone said it was “eerily perfect” and that’s a great way to describe it. The main road along the beach has an adorable strip of food trucks, some of which are in vintage airstreams, have strands of lights in all the trees, lots of great oceanfront restaurants, and everything just looks “perfect”. There’s really no other way to describe it!

Henderson State Park – Destin, FL

Couple on Roof of RV overlooking the ocean

Destin is one of Florida’s most popular cities and beaches. We had one of our most memorable nights walking along the Destin Harbor Boardwalk, where you’ll find many popular restaurants like Margaritaville, fun rides for kids, and shops. We sat along the dock and watched dolphins for almost an hour as the sun was setting! So beautiful! We will definitely go back to explore more of Destin some day. As a popular vacation destination, there is lots to do, including a variety of tours and excursions!

florida rv tour

Florida will definitely be in our plans for next winter as well! We couldn’t get enough of the beautiful beaches, sunsets, and the ability to be parked right along the water! The state parks feel like a tropical oasis and something we haven’t experienced in any other part of the country.  Tell us in the comments what parts of Florida we should check out on our next visit…

Must-see places for your florida rv bucket list.

By Kevin Mims

It’s no secret that Florida is a top destination for RVing and camping, and there’s no better place than the Sunshine State for RV nomads to explore.

From the wild rivers and caves of the  Panhandle  to the beaches of the  Florida Keys , there are seemingly endless ways to experience all Florida has to offer and places to park your home on wheels.

Here’s a list of must-see places for your Florida RVing bucket list.

Christ of the Deep Key Largo statue surrounded by blue fish and scuba divers

The waters of Key Largo are home to the famous Christ of the Abyss statue that snorkelers and scuba divers flock to 25 feet under the surface.

- Peter W. Cross and Patrick Farrell

John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park, Key Largo

What could be better than experiencing the country’s first undersea park, with its 70 nautical square miles of clear blue waters teeming sea life? Having all the comforts of home—and your home on wheels—right there with you while you do it.  John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park  is a must for any Florida traveler’s bucket list, especially for anyone traveling by RV.  Kayak , scuba dive, snorkel, or just kick back and relax on a  glass-bottom boat —the choice is yours. Spend time at John Pennekamp’s beaches and be sure to check out Cannon Beach, where you can snorkel around the remnants of a Spanish shipwreck 100 feet from the shore. The  state park’s campground  has sites to accommodate RVs big and small. Electricity, water, and bath houses are available.

The waters of  Key Largo  are also home to the famous  Christ of the Abyss  statue that snorkelers and scuba divers flock to 25 feet under the surface.

Once you’ve worked up an appetite on the water, head out for fresh seafood. Try  What The Fish Rolls & More ,  Hobo’s Cafe , and  The Fish House . After dinner, take a walk to visit the  African Queen —the boat from the classic 1951 movie by the same name—in its home port.

Children snorkeling in the ocean at Dry Tortugas National Park Key West

Snorkel the clear tropical waters around Fort Jefferson, explore the fort, and see why the Dry Tortugas are a world-class birding destination.

- Peter W. Cross

Key West and the Dry Tortugas

You’ve driven all the way through the upper, middle, and lower Florida Keys. You’ve found  Key West  and reached  Mile Marker 1 . You might think you’re almost done exploring here, but the adventure is just beginning.

While Key West is a bucket-list destination in itself, it’s also the jumping off point for a whole other adventure—one that’ll take you 70 miles over the water to a remote group of seven islands in the Gulf of Mexico. Once a home to only sea turtles, the largest island of the  Dry Tortugas , Garden Key, became the site of a Civil War-era fort that visitors can see today. Getting to the islands requires a  ferry  or seaplane, and visitors can either go for the day or pack some camping gear and stay longer. Either way, you get to snorkel the clear tropical waters around  Fort Jefferson , explore the fort, and see why the Dry Tortugas are a world-class  birding destination . The ferry service also offers meals and snorkeling gear for day travelers.

Campground options include  Boyd’s Key West Campground  and  Leo’s Campground . While on Key West, be sure to visit  Fort Zachary Taylor Historic State Park , the  historic homes of Ernest Hemingway  and  Tennessee Williams , and the  Key West Lighthouse & Keeper’s Quarters Museum . Unwind with a drink at  Sloppy Joe’s  and go to the famed  Mallory Square  for shopping and dining.

Rainbow River, Dunnellon

Tubing a river is a Florida summer rite of passage, and there are few tubing destinations that compare to the  Rainbow River . Tucked away in North Central Florida southwest of  Ocala , the crystal-clear river is locally famous for being a summer tubing hotspot, as well as the place to go for year-round boating, paddling, and swimming. Tube rentals and shuttles are available through  KP Hole  and the  state park .

Aside from tubing, a visit to the main entrance of  Rainbow Springs State Park  is a must, where visitors can swim in the pristine headsprings, take in stunning views of the water from the park’s hilly, garden-like walking path, and rent a canoe. There is an  RV and tent campground  in a separate area of the park, and all sites have water and 30-, 40-, and 50-amp electric service. Canoe and kayak rentals are also available at the campground store, and campers can fish directly from the campground as well.

At night, grill your own dinner at the campground and sit around the campfire or go out and sample some of the local fare at  The Blue Gator ,  The Front Porch Restaurant & Pie Shop , or  Swampy’s Bar and Grille .

Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort, Orlando – Disney, you say? Yep, RV camping at Fort Wilderness is pretty darn nice. Of course, it’s about as family friendly as it gets – pet friendly, too – and is an affordable lodging choice if you are planning to visit the theme parks. You’ll have easy access to the Magic Kingdom and the ability to see fireworks right from the campground. Give it a shot; you’ll definitely be surprised.

The campground at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort is a top destination for seasoned RVers and first-timers alike.

- Walt Disney Resorts / Fort Wilderness

Fort Wilderness Resort, Lake Buena Vista

When you think of  Walt Disney World , camping probably isn’t the first activity that comes to mind. But when it comes to family-friendly RVing, the  campground at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort  is a top destination for seasoned RVers and first-timers alike.

Splash in the  pools and waterslide ,  dine at restaurants  within walking distance of your campsite, and see some of your favorite Disney characters in action. The resort also offers canoeing and kayaking, archery, and horseback riding for guests. Rent a golf cart, bicycle, or motorized boat, or take a ride on a horse-drawn wagon.

When you’re ready to do some park hopping at Disney’s theme parks, catch a bus right from the Fort Wilderness Campground—no driving necessary. At night, watch Magic Kingdom fireworks right from the campground or take in  an outdoor movie and roast marshmallows by the campfire .

Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park

If there’s one place you can unplug and get away from it all, it’s  Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park , 30 miles north of  Okeechobee . This is where birders flock and visitors can see the Milky Way like never before. Thanks to the park’s remote location and lack of light pollution, the night sky is dark enough to take in the Milky Way without the need for a telescope, although telescopes are a common sight around the campground at night.

The quiet and laid-back atmosphere of the campground lends itself to serene nights of star-watching and early mornings exploring the prairie that spans 54,000 acres and is home to a plethora of endangered and threatened species. Take a bike ride to see burrowing owls, swallow-tailed kites, alligators, and more.

The park’s remote location means you need to prepare ahead and shop for meals before you arrive or make the drive into Okeechobee for grocery shopping and dining options, which include  Lightsey’s Seafood Restaurant  and  Parrot Island Bar & Grill .

Ocala National Forest

To stay in the  Ocala National Forest  in Central Florida is to experience Florida wilderness in all its natural glory. The national forest covers more than 600 acres and is home to some of the best freshwater springs in the state for swimming and snorkeling, including  Silver Glen Springs ,  Alexander Springs ,  Juniper Springs , and  Salt Springs . This area offers more than a dozen  day hikes  and hundreds of miles of forest road for biking and  a 22-mile mountain bike trail .

Choose from several RV campgrounds that offer partial hookups:  Alexander Springs ,  Juniper Springs ,  Big Bass , and  Big Scrub .   Salt Springs  has the Ocala National Forest’s largest campground and is the only one with full hookups.

Must-do activities within the national forest include paddling  Juniper Run  and hiking the  Yearling Trail  at Silver Glen Springs. Depending on which part of the forest you’re in, expect to drive about half an hour for shopping and dining options, which include  Old Crow Real Pit BBQ  and  The Mason Jar  in  Umatilla .

Florida Caverns State Park, Marianna

Florida is full of opportunities for adventures in the air and on the water, but the fun at Florida Caverns State Park in  Marianna , northwest of  Tallahassee , begins underground. Florida Caverns is the only Florida park that allows the public access to a dry cave system, and the park offers guided walking tours of the spectacular underground geological formations that make this place a Florida bucket-list item. Expect to see flowstones, stalactites, stalagmites, and even some of the cave’s live inhabitants, including bats and salamanders.

Stay at the campground at Florida Caverns or one of several other RV resorts in the area, including  Florida Caverns RV Resort . When you get hungry and don’t feel like grilling at camp, head to  Mashawy  for Mediterranean-Greek-American fusion fine dining. For something more laid-back, try  The Wharf Casual Seafood .

Along the Blackwater River State Park trails, hikers and paddlers may see: will see rare, insect-eating pitcher plants that are found only on the Gulf Coast between the Apalachicola and Mississippi rivers; lilypads and old-growth cypress; wading bird; and joyful swimmers.

Its clear, tea-colored water, high bluffs, and white-sand beaches make the Blackwater River one of the most scenic outdoor destinations in Northwest Florida.

- Florida DEP

Blackwater River State Park

Its clear, tea-colored water, high bluffs, and white-sand beaches make the Blackwater River one of the most scenic outdoor destinations in  Northwest Florida . East of  Pensacola  and about 25 miles south of the Alabama line,  Blackwater River State Park  is just the place to set up camp and enjoy all the river and surrounding areas have to offer, from  tubing  to  paddling  to  hiking  and  fishing . At the end of the day, walk from your campsite to the water’s edge and take in stunning sunsets.

The relatively small campground has 30 campsites, all equipped with 20-, 30-, and 50-amp electric service and water and sewer connections, as well as picnic tables and fire rings. Grill outside in the evenings and hang out around the fire or go and check out some of the area’s restaurants, which include  The Wild Olive  and  Emerald Isle Seafood  in Crestview.

Blue Spring State Park, Orange City

Seeing manatees in the wild tops the Florida to-do list for many travelers, and there’s nowhere quite like  Blue Spring State Park  in  Orange City  for watching them. With a 51-site campground within walking distance of the spring, it’s the perfect place for RV nomads to enjoy manatees during manatee season, which runs from November to March. During this time, manatees come to the park’s freshwater springs, which stay a constant 72 degrees year-round, to escape the cold, and the springs are closed to in-water activities. The long boardwalk around the springs provides the ideal vantage point to watch these animals, which can number in the hundreds on very cold days, as they rest peacefully under the water.

Outside of manatee season, the springs and surrounding waters are open for swimming, diving, paddling, and more. While you’re there, be sure to check out the gift shop and the historic  Thursby House  on the park grounds.

Nearby attractions include  De Leon Springs State Park  16 miles north of Blue Springs, and its famous  Sugar Mill Restaurant , where each table is equipped with a griddle for make-your-own pancakes.

Big Cypress National Preserve

No Florida bucket list would be complete without a stop in the  Everglades . The country’s largest subtropical wilderness is one of the most ecologically important areas of the state and is home to endangered species. Camping, wildlife viewing, and boating top the list of things to do here. Big Cypress National Preserve, which encompasses 720,000 acres, offers an array of  ranger-guided activities . Through  Big Cypress Institute , visitors can book a swamp buggy, hiking, biking, and birding tours. Big Cypress National Preserve has  several inexpensive RV campgrounds  to choose from.

This area is also home to the Seminole Tribe of Florida’s  Big Cypress Reservation , where visitors can stay at  Big Cypress RV Resort .

Jetty Park, Port Canaveral

Pristine beaches, nesting sea turtles,  rocket launches —the natural and high-tech worlds collide at  Jetty Park  at  Port Canaveral  on Florida’s east coast.

Jetty Park covers 35 acres and has vendors on the beach so you can rent everything from beach chairs to kayaks and boogie boards. With a 1,200-foot fishing pier and opportunities for paddling, biking, and surfing, Jetty Park is enough to keep you busy, but a visit to  Kennedy Space Center  is a must during your stay. And if you have time, take a tour of the  Cape Canaveral Lighthouse .

The  campground at Jetty Park  has a variety of RV campsites to choose from, including waterfront sites with views of the inlet.

Grab drinks at  Preacher Bar , and for something sweet, stop in at  The Florida Key Lime Pie Company . For dinner, head out to  Florida’s Fresh Grill  in nearby  Cocoa Beach .

Sanibel Island is the perfect place to scoop up shells.

Sanibel Island is the perfect place to scoop up shells.

- Lauren Tjaden for VISIT FLORIDA

Sanibel Island

Known for its relaxing vibe and ample supply of shark’s teeth and shells,  Sanibel Island , on Florida’s west coast near  Fort Myers , is somewhere RV nomads can slow down and unwind. Whether you want to  golf, hop on a boat and go fishing, hit the spa, shop , or just collect shells at the beach, Sanibel is the place to be. Sanibel has everything from  casual to fine dining . For a great view and drinks, try the  Upper Deck Pool Bar .

Stay at the  Periwinkle Park  campground on Sanibel Island, which has full hookups and plenty of amenities, or  San Carlos RV Resort & Marina  in nearby Fort Myers Beach or  Sugar Sand Beach RV Resort  in  Matlacha .

While you’re in the area, visit  J.N. “Ding” Darling Wildlife Refuge , located on Sanibel Island, and  Matlacha Pass Aquatic Preserve .

St. Augustine

More than 450 years old and the longest continually occupied European-founded city in the United States,  St. Augustine  is rich in culture and history—and some even say parts of it are  haunted . It’s not hard to find  a good RV campground  near or on the water in this city, and the campsites at  Anastasia State Park  are some of the most popular. There is so much to see and do here that it’s a good idea to book a  trolley tour of the city  to get yourself acquainted. Can’t-miss spots to visit include  Castillo de San Marcos ,  Fort Matanzas , and the many  beaches of St. Augustine .

When it comes to  dining options , local favorites include  Casa Benedetto’s Ristorante ,  Cafe Alcasar , and  Ice Plant Bar , which is next to  St. Augustine Distillery , which offers tours and tastings.

Ben & Sheila Harlan ( Tuesday, September 12 23 11:49 am EDT )

There is no comparison with other tour companies. Yankee is THE BEST! If they weren't, we wouldn't be on our 10 tour with them. (We are aiming for 30+ tours & rallies like some of the more "seasoned folks.) Great value, knowledgeable guides, safety in numbers. and we're all able to communicate with each other on their radios.

Jim & Mary Pinckney ( Saturday, December 24 22 03:36 pm EST )

Mary and I have been on Yankee Tours since 2017 and on the competition. Hands down Yankee is 5Star for sure. The wagon mastors are very confident and professional. Entertainment was always top draw.

Spencer LaClair ( Tuesday, October 25 22 10:13 am EDT )

We just finished the Branson tour and what a great experience. The guides were the best. Every where we went it was well planned out and the best meals were provided. I'll comment again because I have more to say.

Dean and Jan Preston ( Monday, December 06 21 07:37 am EST )

We plan to be at the January, 2022, reunion. We will drive in daily from our home about 2 miles away.

Mary lou Witte ( Thursday, May 27 21 09:56 pm EDT )

My husband and I have been on 9 Yankee RV tours and it is by far the best!! Rod and his wife Helen the owners of the co. are so friendly and make you feel like you are part of their family. Margo Page ( Sunday, December 08 19 07:20 am EST )

We just love Yankee RV Tours. The trips visit beautiful scenery, take in fantastic events. The camaraderie is the best! Have done 5 caravans and 1 rally so far since I retired in 2015. Thanks Rod and Helen.

Jodi Shinn ( Saturday, October 20 18 10:31 am EDT )

Just visiting your website and looking at your future adventures. Was on 2018 NW expedition and already signed for future tour. I enjoyed the entire experience but even more then the the great places we went to I enjoyed the comaradeie of traveling with the group. You were so much like my dad I'm trying to convince him to take a trip with me. Can't wait to do it again.

Fay and Frank ( Wednesday, August 15 18 06:37 pm EDT )

We have been traveling with Yankee TV Tours since 2010 when we toured the Canadian Maritimes. Have taken every tour they offer and been to most of the Rallies. We have traveled with other companies and there is no comparison. Great planning, great fun. The Best!

Is boondocking legal in Florida?

Boondocking, or free camping without hookups, is a popular option among many RV travelers. However, when it comes to RV parks in South Florida and the state at large, the regulations surrounding boondocking can be quite specific.

While Florida offers some public lands where boondocking is permitted, such as in national forests, restrictions still exist. Additionally, boondocking is not generally allowed in city or county parks in South Florida. It’s crucial to check the regulations of the specific area you plan to stay in and always obtain necessary permits or permissions.

How much is an RV park per month in Florida?

The cost of staying at RV parks in South Florida can vary significantly based on the location, amenities, and time of year. On average, monthly rates can range from $600 to $2,000 or even more for luxury resorts .

South Florida, known for its scenic beauty and popular attractions, can have higher rates than other regions, especially during peak tourist seasons. Researching and contacting the desired RV parks in South Florida for precise monthly rates and any available discounts or long-term stay deals is always advisable.

Final Thoughts

The allure of South Florida is undeniable, and for those traveling in an RV, the experience becomes even more enriching. With the myriad of RV parks in South Florida, travelers can undoubtedly find a place that truly aligns with their preferences — be it the tranquility of nature, the vibrant energy of urban centers, or the luxurious opulence of premium resorts . From boondocking guidelines to the cost implications, being well-informed ensures that every RV traveler can make the most of their South Florida escapade.

Believe me, as the sun sets on the horizon, one can’t help but be grateful for the experiences that RV parks in South Florida offer, turning every journey into an unforgettable story.

  • by Julie Bennett
  • Updated: January 10, 2023

This post may contain affiliate links .

Next up in our series covering the Florida RV Supershow is a recap on four (4) travel trailers that caught our eye – for different reasons. We take you on a tour inside the brand new and contemporary Evoke by Travel Lite, the Airstream 27′ Tommy Bahama Special Edition, the Lance 2465 and the Eriba Retro.  Watch the video below to see the tour.

Read on for a little more info on each model, plus links to each unit on the manufacturer website.

florida rv tour

We were hoping to find something new and different in RV interiors at the RV Supershow and we found it with the Evoke travel trailer (Model C) by Travel Lite. These RVs sport private jet-inspired interiors and the exterior is pretty sleek too. We are very happy to see it’s very different to anything else we’ve seen in the RV market! It is outfitted with Furrion appliances, and has highly contemporary styling with a King bed.

You just have to see it for yourself. We have a feeling these are going to be VERY popular. The Evoke was also selected as Pick of the Show by RV Business Magazine and a top Pick for RV Pro. MSRP is around $43,000 and the Show Special was $29K. Learn more about the Evoke Travel Trailer and the various floorplans available  here .  Click here to watch the video tour.

florida rv tour

The Lance Camper Model 2465 RV Pro Best of Show and RV Business Top Debut. A 25′ travel trailer with a J-style couch, spacious kitchen. fireplace and even a workspace in the bedroom, with a folding chair and a televator. It has 2 slides, sleeps up to 5, and is a true 4 season RV. Lance makes clever use of the space in many ways, one of which is an inbuilt trash compartment with lid in the kitchen counter. The MSRP is around $63K and the show price was around $50k. Click here to  learn more about this unit from the manufacturer .  Click here to watch the video tour.

Airstream Tommy Bahama

Airstream offers up this beachy, breeze feeling  Tommy Bahama Special edition  travel trailer with a rear hatch. This is the 27’FB model which sleeps up to 4 or 5. The rear hatch is a great feature for open views from the dining area (with removable table) which also allows you to load gear in and out of the unit, like kayaks, surboards, SUPs etc.  It has marine type flooring and boasts bold styling, especially with the floral patterns in the decor. The MSRP is around $131K and show price was around $114K.  Click to watch the video tour .

Eriba Retro

The Eriba Retro by the Hymer Group was introduced at the Florida RV Supershow and comes with a fiberglass clamshell exterior with a popup roof for extra headroom. Very simple, cute and retro, which will appeal to those looking for a nostalgic feeling. Lightweight and a fun RV for weekends and short trips.  Click here to watch the video tour .

We hope you enjoyed this quick trip through four travel trailers we found interesting at the show.  There are of course hundreds of other models that might fit your needs.

What are Caravans and Rallies?

Fantasy RV Tours offers two different types of RV vacations: Caravans and Rallies. An RV Caravan is a professionally-guided tour that travels from destination to destination on a pre-planned route. A Rally is also pre-planned and led by professional Travel Ambassadors, but explores one area or event, e.g. Rose Parade or Washington DC. To learn more, click here .

What is a Travel Ambassador?

On each of our RV Tours, you’ll be led by professional leaders – WagonMasters and TailGunners – who are collectively known as Travel Ambassadors. To learn more and to meet our ambassadors, click here .

Will we travel caravan/convoy style or independent travel?

We often suggest scattered travel during a caravan with groups of 2 to 4 RVs traveling at a safe distance apart who may enjoy similar points of interest. Of course, you may travel independently at your own pace – enjoying sites and side trips. Your Travel Ambassadors are there to ensure safety for the entire group. It’s your vacation, so we offer options – we want you to enjoy safety, comfort and freedom. Typically, in Mexico, guests prefer to travel convoy style.

Do you limit the number of RVs?

Yes. You’ll want to make reservations early to reserve your space. Reservations are prioritized in the order received. Most of our caravans are limited to 22 RVs, while rallies are determined individually.

Do you offer an interest-free monthly payment plan?

Yes! Budget your vacation with our interest-free monthly payment program and reserve your spot with the first month’s payment. You can also secure your spot with just a 15% deposit and, no matter which payment option you choose, if you pay by check, you’ll receive a discount. For more details,  click here  or contact our Customer Support Team at 800-952-8496.

You can also build your way up to different status levels that earn you additional benefits. For full program details, click here .

Do you have a referral program?

Yes. When a new customer is referred by you and completes their tour, you’ll receive $50 in future travel credits for a Rally and $100 in future travel credits for a Caravan. For full program details, click here .

Do I need to own an RV?

Yes and no. Caravans require an RV; whether owned or rented. Some of our rallies have an option to stay in a cabin or hotel, which is indicated in the tour information. If traveling in an Overseas caravan, an RV rental will be provided.

Getting Ready for Your Tour

When will i receive the detailed itinerary.

You will receive a pre-rally information packet approximately 90 days before the tour begins, which includes the detailed itinerary, a vehicle preparation checklist, travel tips, medical forms and the contact information for your WagonMasters.

How should I prepare my RV before the tour starts?

Make sure your vehicle(s) is in top condition before you leave home. Have in your possession the warranty packet and information that came with your motorhome, fifth-wheel, or travel trailer. Know the name of the dealer and location of the original purchase, factory telephone numbers, warranty numbers, as well as year, make, and model in order to get parts delivered quickly, if necessary. Use the Vehicle Preparation Checklist (provided in the pre-rally information packet) to assure your equipment is ready for the tour. Most people travel without ever having a breakdown. In fact, you will probably complete your tour and never have any kind of mechanical problem. Your Travel Ambassadors will do a basic vehicle inspection before the tour begins and advise you of any potential problems or recommended things to do to help preclude any damage to your vehicle.

Should I bring a tow vehicle?

On traveling caravans, we recommend a tow vehicle to maximize your freedom. Most caravans have free days to explore but ultimately, it is an individual preference to tow.

Do I need a passport?

Passports are required for Canada, Mexico and Overseas tours. Please note: Some USA tours require passports if they travel into Canada.

What documents do I need for Mexico and Overseas tours?

You are required to have a Travelers Visa, but we’ll take care of obtaining and paying for the visa once we receive a copy of your passport. We’ll send this information to you a few months before the tour begins.

Is extra vehicle insurance needed in Mexico?

Yes. You must have a Mexico Liability policy for each motorized vehicle and we’ll provide you with information regarding purchasing the liability policy.

Are pets welcome?

YES! We are a pet friendly company. However, it is your responsibility to care for your pet. During Polar Bear tours – you will be away from your pet 3 nights. Canadian Atlantic Province tours with an overnight ferry crossing – you will be away from your pet 1 night. There are pet accommodations available for those tours. Pet care fees are your responsibility. Canada and Mexico require proof of rabies vaccination.

Will I get to speak with my WagonMaster before we depart?

On caravans with less than 25 rigs, your WagonMaster will make an introductory call to each guest on the tour after you receive your customer packet. On all other caravans and rallies, you will be contacted by email which will include direct contact information for your WagonMaster.

Are flights included on Overseas tours?

No. Many of our guests enjoy arriving early or extending their trip once the Caravan is over, so we want to give you the freedom to do so. We’ve also found that guests prefer traveling on specific airlines, flying at certain times of the day or booking their flights with frequent traveler miles. We want to give you the ultimate freedom to fully maximize your vacation. Any in-country flights that are listed on the itinerary are included in the price of the tour.

While on Tour

Do you provide driving directions.

Before the tour begins, we’ll provide you with a comprehensive, up-to-date, field-researched Trip Log with turn-by-turn directions and popular landmarks.

Are gratuities included?

Tips for meals, bus drivers and special guides are included in the tour price. Customers should feel free to tip any service providers they feel go ‘the extra mile’. Gratuities are certainly welcome, but not required for your WagonMaster and TailGunner – they strive to provide exemplary service, above and beyond the call of duty during your entire tour.

Are ferry fees included?

Typically, ferry fees are included unless stated otherwise on the itinerary.

Can I get special meals for my dietary restrictions?

If you have special dietary needs, notify your WagonMaster before the tour begins. Some of the vendors we use will be able to accommodate and some do not have the ability to do so. Be prepared with your own food substitution for situations in which your special food need cannot be accommodated.

What are the physical demands of your tours?

To ensure you have a safe and enjoyable vacation, each tour has an Activity Rating, which is indicated in the tour information. Most tours include walking tours and guided excursions aboard buses, boats, trains, subways and planes. This scale will help you decide if you can participate in all activities included with each tour. Guests with mobility challenges and walking limitations may not be able to participate in all activities. Activity Ratings are intended to provide information for those who do not use mobility devices. If you require a mobility device, please be aware that guests are responsible for loading, unloading and securing their device on all excursions. Some of our tours prohibit the use of Scooters, which is indicated in the tour information.

Can I bring my mobility device?

Certain tours are not scooter or wheelchair accessible, which is indicated in the tour information. On tours where all mobility devices are allowed, guests relying on the aid of walkers, crutches or other mobility devices must travel with a companion capable of assisting. Guests with mobility challenges may not be able to actively participate in all activities included in the tour itinerary.

What amp service will be available at campgrounds?

We always strive to reserve as many 50 amp spaces as possible. However, some campgrounds will not have enough 50 amp spaces for everyone. At most campgrounds, 30/50 amp power is standard. Please note that some campgrounds in Alaska, Canada and Mexico may be more primitive than in the Lower 48. Be prepared to use limited power or dry camp on a few occasions.

How will I know where and when to meet for activities?

On most days, WagonMasters hold nightly travel meetings to brief you on the next day’s activity schedule. In addition, the WagonMasters will have a whiteboard in the front window of their RV that has the daily schedule and any changes that may have occurred.

How do I keep in touch with the WagonMasters and TailGunners?

We use family radios and cell phones. Your WagonMaster will explain the best means of communication for the next day’s travel at the nightly travel meeting.

Can I book optional activities on tour?

There may be opportunities in which you may want to enjoy side trips and optional tours that are not included in the price of the Caravan. Our WagonMasters & Tailgunners are available to assist you with suggestions of popular activities in the area to make the most of your vacation.

What if I have medical emergency or mechanical breakdown?

Our Travel Ambassadors are ready to help when a mechanical problem or medical emergency arises. However, if this prevents you from continuing the tour, you may receive a credit toward a future tour less any non-refundable expenses incurred by Fantasy RV Tours on your behalf.
