KISS Announce Rescheduled Australian ‘End of The Road’ Tour Dates

Originally set to take place in late 2019, both illness and a global pandemic have seen kiss’ final aussie trek pushed back to 2022., tyler jenke, tyler jenke's most recent stories.

KISS will kick off their final Australian tour this November.

UPDATE (31/08): KISS have once again postponed their forthcoming Australian tour, with Paul Stanley breaking the news to fans amid his recovery from COVID-19.

“I am overwhelmed by the hundreds of messages of love and support that I have received from my Aussie fans and want to let you all know that I now feel great and am near my complete recovery,” he explained. “My doctors have told me that I was very smart to get fully vaccinated as that has clearly made the difference in making sure I don’t get really sick from this virus.

“I know that Australia is accelerating its vaccine roll out but, unfortunately, it won’t be in time for our November / December tour to proceed as scheduled. So, we will push the tour back a few months but, rest assured, WE ARE COMING FOR YOU!!”

Full details regarding KISS’ upcoming Australian tour are available below.

Just over 15 months on from the initial news that their Australian tour had been cancelled, hard-rock icons KISS have now announced new dates for their final tour of the country.

Having first announced their final world tour – aptly titled the ‘End of The Road’ tour – in late 2018, the veteran outfit began their last global trek in January of 2019, having planned a visit to Australia in November of that year. Unfortunately, the band’s final visit to Australia and New Zealand was unceremoniously cancelled just days before kick-off due to frontman Paul Stanley being stricken with a bad case of influenza.

While the band has assured fans the shows were just being postponed into the future, the advent of COVID-19 saw the band forced to reschedule the vast majority of their upcoming tour dates. Now, almost a year on from the last show they played, KISS are set to resume their tour in early June, with the group set to return to Australia in November.

Announcing rescheduled dates today, KISS are set to begin their last Australian tour on November 14th, performing in Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane, before wrapping things up with a show in Townsville in early December. While the planned shows remain very close to the band’s original tour dates, these rescheduled dates do feature one less Melbourne show than they did previously, while the band’s slated appearance at the Supercars Newcastle 500 is obviously no more, having been replaced by the Townsville show.

“There’s a light at the end of the tunnel and it’s BLINDING!” Paul Stanley said in a statement accompanying the news. “We are finally coming back. The tour is now official and we will deliver nights that will go beyond all expectations. We are fired up and will count the days.”

“Until we see you stay safe and be ready for us,” added Gene Simmons. “We’re ready for you!”

Tickets to the upcoming dates are on sale to the public from Friday, March 5th, with pre-sales starting from today. Full details are available below.

KISS cancel Townsville date of Australian tour, announce Gold Coast show as replacement

The gig was initially axed altogether due to a clash with the North Queensland Cowboys

KISS have updated the itinerary for the Australian run of their ‘End Of The Road’ world tour , cancelling their scheduled date in Townsville and announcing a new show for the Gold Coast in its place.

As reported by the Townsville Bulletin yesterday (July 12), the band were forced to cancel their gig in the northern Queensland city – which was scheduled for Saturday September 10 at the Queensland Country Bank Stadium – due to the venue being double-booked. On the same day KISS were due to perform, the stadium is now slated to host a rugby league match for the North Queensland Cowboys, the team who claim the stadium as their home grounds.

The  Bulletin went onto note that the Cowboys’ management had initially offered to work with KISS’ promoters to organise an alternate schedule if such a clash were to arise. At the start of the 2022 National Rugby League (NRL) season, however, it appeared unlikely that it would. The Cowboys now sit at Number Two on the NRL ladder, though, so a hometown final – either on September 10 or 17 – is all but guaranteed.

The Bulletin claims that KISS were offered Reid Park as an alternate venue for the Townsville show, but the band’s promoters ruled it out. The event space there is approximately 1.5 kilometres away from the Queensland Country Bank Stadium. The park only has a capacity of around 12,000, however, as opposed to the original venue’s 25,000.

In a statement to the Bulletin , promoter Andrew McManus said that even if the Cowboys were to hold their final on September 17, the KISS show would still be unviable as initially planned. “By the time I chop up the field with the stage and everything, the NRL won’t allow it,” he said.

“We have to congratulate the Cowboys on their success, but I have to shift the last ever show by KISS on Australian soil out of Townsville.”

As a result of the news, KISS will now perform their September 10 show at the Cbus Super Stadium on the Gold Coast, some 1,400 kilometres south of Townsville. It will be the last date of KISS’ Australian tour – and subsequently, their final ever performance in the country – following shows in Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide, Perth and Brisbane.

All ticketholders for the Townsville show will be automatically refunded within 30 days, with tickets for the new gig going on sale at 12pm on Monday July 25 – find them here . There will be two pre-sales: one for members of the KISS fan club, running from 12pm next Tuesday (July 19), and one for Telstra Plus members, running from 10am the next day (July 20).

KISS’ ‘End Of The Road’ tour was first announced back in 2018, and has been pegged as the band’s final world tour before they officially disband. Last week, bassist Gene Simmons said KISS would be adding an additional 100 cities to the tour , admitting in the process that the band “don’t know” when the run will formally end.

“We’ve never retired before,” he said in a recent interview. “This is our first time. It’s like painting a painting or writing a book. When somebody says, ‘When is it gonna be finished?’ You’re in the middle of it; you don’t know.”

KISS Announces Final Australian Tour Dates

By Laura English

Rock legends KISS are set to bring their End of the Road tour to Australia this November and December, after kicking it off back in 2019.

They ended up cancelling the Australian leg of the tour due to Paul Stanley falling ill. Though, they did play a show off the South Australian coast.

KISS wanted to entertain the great white sharks … “As opposed to the sharks being entertainment for us, we’re going to try and entertain them,” they said at the time.

Although apparently no sharks turned up .

We’re sure their newly announced Aussie tour dates will be more popular.

The band says, “This will be the ultimate celebration for those who’ve seen us and a last chance for those who haven’t.”

Kiss Australian Dates Rescheduled For November

by Paul Cashmere on February 26, 2021

Kiss will be back on track with the End of the Road world tour in Australia in November.

Like all things rock and roll Kiss ‘End of the Road’ was stopped in its tracks by Covid before the band reached Australia. With Australia well placed for a complete reopening (and indeed with many tours already back on the road) Kiss will reactivate for 2021 in Australia, well before America mends.

Paul Stanley said in a statement, “There’s a light at the end of the tunnel and it’s BLINDING! We are finally coming back. The tour is now official and we will deliver nights that will go beyond all expectations. We are fired up and will count the days.”

Gene Simmons added, “Until we see you stay safe and be ready for us. We’re ready for you!”

KISS rock out Australia for the last time ever in a stellar Sydney show

During their last ever Australian show, one member of iconic rock band KISS shocked the Sydney crowd with just six simple words.

US superstar cancels Aussie tour

‘Shattered’: Taylor’s secret Eras Tour struggle

‘Shattered’: Taylor’s secret Eras Tour struggle

If I asked you to imagine what your life might look like when you’ve reached your 70s, what kind of future is conjured up in your mind?

Perhaps you’re reading a book while curled up on the couch, sipping a warm cup of tea, or perched on a sun lounger, blissfully watching your grandkids play in your pool.

Well, I think we should all be channelling our inner ‘Starchild’ Paul Stanley from KISS, who rocked out Sydney’s Accor stadium on Saturday night for the very last time.

The 71-year-old icon was dressed head to toe in tight studded leather and donned knee-high platform boots, before confidently launching himself at full speed via zip line from one end of the stadium to the other, mesmerising the crowd below.

I am more than four decades younger than this man and yet can barely get out of bed some mornings, let alone put my body through the insane circus-like escapades that he had made look effortless.

Amid the excitement, there was a sombre feeling washing over the audience that night, as many struggled to accept that this would be the final time KISS would ever perform in Australia.

It simply didn’t feel real.

Many in attendance had been at the band’s very first concert Down Under back in 1980, when the boys visited all our major cities as part of their Unmasked tour and cemented our love of the group for decades to come.

But there is no denying that we’ve heard this before.

The band said goodbye to Australia at their End Of The Road tour in 2022, promising it would be the last time they would ever set foot on our shores.

However, their love for the land down under is strong, with Stanley revealing his true feelings during the show.

“Australia is like our second home” he affectionately declared, a stunning revelation that incited audible gasps, laughs and a choir of “aww” from the crowd.

KISS simply can’t stay away, returning to rock out the AFL grand final last week in Melbourne , before their ‘final curtain’ Sydney show on Saturday, hosted by TEG Live and One World Entertainment.

But there was something different in the air that evening, a palpable sense of sadness that this was really it – the final hurrah.

However, it was this knowledge that spurred everyone into slipping on their dancing shoes and making this farewell party as memorable as it could be, both for us and for them.

The crowd was lucky enough to catch three incredible opening performances, with Aussie acts The Delta Riggs and Regurgitator pumping out some classics, before beloved American band Weezer graced the stage.

Then, it was time.

The anticipation and lead up to KISS being unveiled was unlike anything I’d seen before.

Everything went pitch black, before bright red spotlights danced around the crowd and a suspenseful track vibrated throughout the stadium.

On the giant screens, fans are given an exciting sneak peek at the musicians emerging from their dressing rooms, fully adorned with their unmistakeable attire and painted faces, as they begin their slow walk out to the stage.

Then comes their famous introduction.

“All right Sydney, you want the best, you got the best,” a disembodied voice booms.

“The hottest band in the world – KISS!”

With a deafening bang, the curtain dramatically drops to unveil the foursome slowly descending from the heavens above, encircled by billowing puffs of smoke, enormous flames and fireworks lighting up the sky.

“We thought we had said goodbye, but you asked us to come back,” Stanley announced to the enamoured crowd.

“We are humbled, we are honoured and we are here to kick some ass. Australia is like our second home. We love you!”

With his ghostly white painted face, iconic black star over his right eye and perfectly applied red lippy on his pout, the KISS frontman magically exudes the same electric energy and effortless charm that he did 50 years ago, when the New York band first formed in 1973.

Bassist Gene Simmons at 74 is somehow just as bewildering and formidable in the best possible way as ‘The Demon’, both enchanting and horrifying the crowd with his classic tongue antics and mouth-bleeding performances.

Made complete with 62-year-old lead guitarist Tommy Thayer’s expert acoustic skills as the ‘Space Man’ and drummer Eric Singer, 65, providing the beating heart for the band as ‘The Cat’.

Launching into classics like Shout It Out Loud ( 1976) Deuce (1974) and Heaven’s On Fire (1984), the crowd was amped up and hungry for more.

A KISS performance is so much more than just a concert – it is an other-worldly, unforgettable blitz on the senses.

“The first time we came here was in 1980, and you people have always been awesome,” Stanley shouts, as the camera pans out into the crowd.

There are KISS lookalikes as far as the eye can see, with both young and old getting into the spirit and reminding us of the monumental role music plays in connecting people from all walks of life.

A five-year-old boy donning Gene Simmons style face paint playfully pokes out his tongue as he bounces on his father’s shoulders, while an 85-year-old woman waves from her wheelchair, a perfect black star etched onto her face and crimson lippie painted on her pout.

Fans were dressed up as their favourite band members. Picture: Chris Huang

“We know you’re not all from here,” Stanely said, acknowledging the thousands that were flocking to the show from all over the country.

Powering through other hits such as Calling Dr. Love (1976), Lick It Up (1983) and Psycho Circus (1998), it was soon time for the unforgettable God Of Thunder (1976) act.

As a stormy scene lights up the stage, the camera zooms in on Simmons as he appears to be having an exorcist-type reaction, before fake blood cascades out his mouth as he personifies his character of ‘The Demon’.

Not one to be outdone, Stanley leaps into his pièce de résistance trademark stunt.

“We won’t be back, this is the last time. I know, it’s horrible,” he says. “And this is the last time that I can come out there and be with you.”

Paul and Gene in their younger years. Picture: Instagram / @genesimmons

Before long, he seamlessly places a single foot onto the zip line and effortlessly glides across the crowd and onto a tower in the middle of the pit.

Fans go wild, uncertain which way to turn as he busts out some killer dance moves while playing Love Gun (1977) and then flying back onto the stage for Black Diamond (1974).

#ThrowbackThursday : November 1980 - Amazing welcome at Sydney's City Hall during our first visit to #Australia . 43 years later, we'll be back in #Sydney for our final Australian show at Accor Stadium on October 7th. #KISSTORY #EndOfTheRoadTour pic.twitter.com/3v4fOdvNiz — KISS (@kiss) August 24, 2023

The perfectly-timed theatrics of it all are a testament to the band’s professionalism, and despite the hundreds, if not thousands, of times they have performed these tricks, they continue to blow the audience away and make us feel as if we are the first to ever witness such crazed antics.

After teasing the crowd by disappearing from stage, drummer Eric Singer re-emerges with his solo of Beth (1976) after desperate pleas for an encore, and the stadium is illuminated by gently swaying lights from the torches on everyone’s mobile phones.

Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley were sad to say goodbye to Australia. Picture: Jake Nowakowski

The rest of the band return and light up the crowd with Shandi (1980), a song which despite having just moderate success in the U.S. at number 47 on the Top 100 Billboard Charts, captivated Australian audiences when it was first releases, skyrocketing to number 5 here.

It is clear by the number of people singing their lungs out that the emotive tune continues to be uniquely appreciated by crowds down under.

With the end edging closer, everyone got on their feet as they busted out fan favourites I Was Made For Lovin’ You (1979) and Rock and Roll All Nite (1975).

“Sydney, we will never, ever forget you,” Stanley says with a smile, as the reality of the inevitable final goodbye sets in.

“Goodnight, we love you.”

Many refused to believe this could be their final Australian show. Picture: Jasmine Kazlauskas / News.com.au

Although the night was freezing – getting down to 14 degrees celcius with an icy wind – a warmness enveloped the crowd, as if we had all just been part of one giant hug goodbye.

During the mass exodus, I spotted a few teary-eyed fans staring longingly at the stage, clearly moved by the concert and struggling to believe it was finally all over.

This degree of emotion on such a large scale reminded me of the incredible power of music and how it can stir things up inside of us that we never even knew existed.

Although we’ve kissed KISS goodbye, the legacy of the band and the decades of memories they have created in this country will be forever etched onto the heart of their Australian fans.

Though most of us have accepted that this is truly the end, some remain hopeful they might return.

After all, how long can they stay away from their “second home”?

Only time will tell.

The Australian leg of a superstar North American artist’s world tour was in doubt but has now officially been canned. See what it means for ticketholders.

A British music icon has touched down on Australian shores just a few days after reuniting with her former bandmates.

Taylor Swift writes of being “shattered” during her Eras Tour in one of the songs on her latest headline-making album.

Queensland premier Steven Miles questioned over bringing two government jets on crime prevention tour

Live Moment Queensland premier Steven Miles questioned over bringing two government jets on crime prevention tour

Premier Steven Miles and Commissioner Steve Gollschewski

Queensland's premier has faced questions over his use of government jets, as the state government announces plans to bolster police numbers and give Cairns a dedicated chopper.

Premier Steven Miles said he believed the use of two government jets to travel across regional Queensland this week to make crime prevention announcements was appropriate.

Mr Miles, Police Minister Mark Ryan and newly minted Police Commissioner Steve Gollschewski have travelled to several regional cities a day this week, including Cairns, Townsville and Hervey Bay.

A police helicopter in hangar.

To transport the travelling parties — which also included local MPs — two government jets were used on multiple days to travel between Brisbane and north Queensland.

Steven Miles said the Queensland Government Air (QG Air) planes were needed for the busy schedule.

"It was determined that was the most appropriate way to deliver the itinerary," he said.

"It just would not be possible for me to have done that without access to those QG Air planes."

Mr Miles said he used commercial flights for travel when possible.

"That itinerary was based on my desire to make sure that I, the police commissioner, and police minster are in regional Queensland as much as we can possibly be," he said.

Live Moment

Look back at how ABC readers and other Australians responded to this live moment.

How can a Polair helicopter assist police?

  • Police say Polair capabilities can enhance police operations in regional areas
  • Polair helicopters have advanced camera, thermal imaging and night vision capabilities
  • The helicopters are used daily to help police with tracking offenders, surveillance operations and search and rescue missions

That is where we will leave our live coverage. Thank you for joining us.

If crime rates are going down in Cairns why is a police helicopter needed?

Police Minister Mark Ryan says in the financial year to date, which is about nine months, the number of offences against properties in Cairns is down 12 per cent   and the unlawful use of a motor vehicle is down 20 per cent.

He says the new helicopter will be there to complement the work that police do.

"Polair is not just about apprehending offenders, it is about saving lives. "The very first call for service the Townsville helicopter was called to was a little boy lost in the bush. "Police tell me that they may not have found that boy if it was not for the helicopter. "That is why you need Polair."

MP says a police helicopter is a 'game changer' for Cairns

"If you are a crook out there you will now be observed from a very high altitude, you won't even know that the machine is even up there, but it will see you," Barron River MP Craig Crawford says. "It can lock on to the vehicle that you have stolen, it can see your heat signature when you are running through the park in the middle of the night. "You will be caught, you will be found, you will be charged and you will go in front of a magistrate."

Wondering what this is? Join us next time we're live and be part of the discussion.

On Monday, Mr Miles travelled from Brisbane to Cairns to hold a press conference alongside Mr Gollschewski after he was announced as the new police commissioner.

Mr Miles spoke in Cairns again on Tuesday, before he travelled to Townsville then Hervey Bay to make announcements about tackling youth crime with Mr Ryan and Mr Gollschewski.

The trio went from Brisbane to Cairns and Townsville again on Wednesday to spruik a new police helicopter and funding for more police officers.

Deputy Opposition Leader Jarrod Bleijie said the premier was   "wasting valuable resources with two luxury jets flying to the same location".

"The same five locations with his police minister," he said.

"They couldn't fly in the same plane together?"

Official guidelines state the government jets should only be used when commercial flights are unavailable or inadequate.

'Aggressive recruitment campaign'

The dedicated police helicopter will be used to combat crime, as the state government announces plans to bolster the force with 900 new officers.

The ambitious recruitment target comes ahead of the looming state election and two days after Steve Gollschewski was appointed as police commissioner.

The commitment includes a boost of 500 sworn officers and 400 unsworn personnel over the next three years.

Despite a competitive labour market, the state government said an "aggressive recruiting campaign" had led to a 200 per cent jump in the number of recruits in the pipeline over the last year.

A group of police recruits, many of them women, standing around their trainer.

Nearly 700 aspiring officers are undergoing training and more than 2,000 applicants are in the recruitment process.

"The extra personnel will be allocated to areas across Queensland, ensuring we are future-proofing our police and keeping pace with population growth," Commissioner Gollschewski said.

"Despite the recruiting challenges being experienced in policing jurisdictions across Australia, the QPS is continuing to see a healthy pipeline of police recruit applicants."

A camera attached to a police helicopter in a hangar.

New police chopper

With crime shaping up as a key issue in this year's state election, the Queensland government has also committed to purchasing a police helicopter for Cairns.

The aerial asset will include sophisticated thermal imaging cameras and night vision capabilities.

Townsville received a police chopper in January, which is flown daily to track offenders and stolen cars, conduct surveillance operations and search for missing people.

So far, it has taken 110 flights and located 74 persons of interest and 41 stolen vehicles.

"We heard yesterday from the police in Townsville that the helicopter there can allow them to do some tasks that might have once taken weeks in just minutes," Premier Steven Miles said.

Commissioner Gollschewski said he was "delighted" that Cairns would be getting its own chopper.

"We've seen how extraordinarily successful these assets are both in south-east Queensland and in Townsville," he said.

"They are a game changer for our police here and they will be a game changer for the community."

The announcements are the latest in a suite of new government initiatives to combat crime.
