Marshall factory tour

noisepolluter said: Estheroid and I went to the Marshall factory tour today and thoroughly enjoyed it. You get to see every stage of the uk amp building process and it’s really well explained. There were various historical/rare bits of kit dotted about the place as well as a few owned by famous players, and at the end you also get a tour of the studio and an opportunity to crank some amps in the live room (particularly enjoyed the jcm800 and 1959), with free refreshments and 20% merch discount afterwards. Everyone was extremely friendly and welcoming and I’d thoroughly recommend going - and it’s free! Very grateful for an excellent experience today and I really hope the sale of the company works out well for them all.

Experience era-defining sound – Marshall launches the Studio JTM amplifier
Marshall introduces the all-new Studio JTM. The amp that started it all returns, now in a more compact, lightweight package.
To honour what would have been Jim Marshall’s 100th birthday and to pay homage to the first Marshall amp, our Studio series has a new addition. Inspired by the JTM first produced in 1962, the new Studio JTM brings the modern player the same legendary, warm and smooth tone that inspired generations of musicians to launch their musical visions onto the world.
The new Studio JTM range comes in four unique but equally distinguished products in the form of a 20W head, 20W combo amp, 1 x 12” and 2 x 12” cabs all adorned with period-correct aesthetics such as the famous red enamel poured “coffin” logo and luxurious fawn fret.
The original JTM45 was heavily praised by the likes of Gary Moore, Richie Blackmore and Angus Young for granting more tone, more gain and more grit to their sound. Today, this same ethos is the driving fuel behind the creation of the Studio JTM, having recreated the sound of the JTM in immaculate detail and being handmade in our world-class UK factory in Milton Keynes.
Terry Marshall, Jim Marshall’s son and creator of the original JTM45 said: “When I was demonstrated the Studio JTM it took me back to my original JTM45, it was my sound…I feel like it is going to be something special.”.
Convenience has also been put at the forefront of the Studio JTM’s design, with a smaller footprint and being more lightweight than its historical counterpart without compromising on sound quality, the amp is a breeze to transport and is suitable for playing in multiple environments.
Ideal for both home use or smaller stages, the Studio JTM boasts built-in power reduction technology, allowing players to switch between 20W and 5W settings, meaning guitarists can now achieve the defining sound of the JTM anywhere.
The Studio JTM features many of the same components that helped define the iconic JTM tone, from the ECC83 preamp values, 5881 power amp valves, ECC83 phase splitter and G12M-65 Creamback Celestion speakers, resulting in a unique blend of warm, growling and versatile sound that takes you right back to the renaissance of rock and roll.

I went there about 10 years ago and got a one on one tour. Didn't get to meet Jim he went home earlier in the day with a cold. I went from Alconbury AB. I walked, took a train, a taxi & bus I believe to get there but was worth it. I video taped it on vhs I would post it too but it's the same as the video shown already.

visited the factory, maybe 20 years ago, with my 1959 100w superlead which i had picked up in a junk shop. something wasnt quite right with the amp and they took it in and had a look at it for me. they serviced it and put it back to rights. when i collected it was invited in to the offices as someone was waiting to meet me and shake my hand, was it Jim? maybe, didnt charge me a penny did the work for nothing! Thats what i call service. Still got the amp although been stored away and not used for maybe 15 years, think it may be time to find it a new home.

they are an amazing company , i recently dug out my old early 80's purchase jmp20pa, and put some new valves in it and that got it working again but it wasn't right still , so after a chat with marshall , they put new pots on it for me , changed the ohnms to suit what i wanted to run , and didn't charge me anything because i gave them the speaker cabinets , what i had never used , because guitar doesn't work thru them very well, and paul marshall picked them up initially in his jag - that made my day , they were brilliant and i can't praise the company enough

Hi Guys, I went on a visit to the Marshall factory today. What a place and what great people too! looked after us very well. The story is this; basically I booked a factory tour and I booked my amp in for a service. A mate of mine was kind enough to give me life up there as he wanted to see the factory too. I dropped the amp in and they looked at it and after a short while I was equipped with a quote for the work that was necessary and the work that was advised was told that if we could wait the work could be done there and then. We then did the tour of the factory and its quite a place to see. What was really nice was that we got to talk to some of the guys on the shop floor and they were great guys too and seemed more than happy to talk to us and to show what they were working on. Rightly proud of what they do there as they should be. Almost all of them we spoke to were long term employees too. While that was going on I was having my amp looked at and serviced. The rather clever guy in repairs virtually rebuilt this rather knackered JCM900 4100 which was 2 1/2 hours in surgery. It went in with some seriously annoying faults and it emerged all singing all dancing with a new set of valves, complete new set of control pots as well as a complete new set of input sockets too. After the visit and after the surgery was finished I was presented with what could only be described as a brand new amp and what difference! The bets thing though was to have the engineer at Marshall say "I've tried it, it works, and just to make sure now its your turn to try it!" So with volumes and gains right up there I plugged into the demo cab and with the strat they keep nearby I proceeded to make a total mess of anything I tried to play. I think that was nerves. Playing through a Marshall in the repairs/service office of the Marshall factory is an interesting experience and one I shall never forget. The tour was great, they did my amp for me while I waited, revitalised it and restored it to its former glory, it took 2 1/2 hours to do but hey! Everything about their customer service I have read about is true. I cant fault it.

I've been to the Marshall factory a couple of times, first I took a mate of mine on the factory tour and I had my JCM 900 serviced and my 1960B 4x12 re-grilled. I also took a bunch of my guitar students on the 2nd trip. They really enjoyed the factory tour. I must say Marshall have made me feel extremely valued and welcome each time I've been there. They sorted out my amps and cabinets perfectly, and having conversations with Jim's colleagues and friends, telling us old stories about their life at the factory which usually involved well known rock bands and guitarists was just awesome to hear. It's my spiritual home lol. Thank you Marshall.
