Instead of a normal bedframe, why not glitz it up with silver metallic frame like what Mongchin has done? You don’t need to get an intricate design or a detailed form of architecture. Different materials can add texture and tone, injecting some fun and variety to a room. You could try wood or acrylic as well, for a different feel.

Everyone should be familiar with Xiaxue and what she has done to her 4-room HDB resale flat. A lover of beach holidays, she chose a vintage beach theme and mentioned that most would opt for a minimalistic or modern look, but those two just weren’t right up her alley.

Following a consistent colour scheme of blue, white and sand, her beach paradise abode was completed with oak beams on the ceilings, the beach wallpaper in the living room and various beach-related knick knacks that Xiaxue purchased at very affordable prices from Taobao, an online shopping site. For a complete view of her house, watch her house tour  here .

5. Melissa C. Koh (@melissackoh)

Melissa’s apartment is so minimalistic and stylish that it looks like it came straight out of a magazine. Her all-white apartment is decorated with plants as she believes that they help to purify the air and brighten up the interior.

The whole apartment’s original tiled flooring was laid over with light woodgrained vinyl pieces, complementing the dark wood furniture. Brass and gold accents are also commonplace for a more luxe vibe.

She also maximised space by having an open concept kitchen and toilet in the master bedroom. For a complete view of her house, watch her house tour  here .

You’ll be surprised to know that firstly, Brenda moved out to live on her own at the age of 22 and secondly, she found the apartment of her dreams on Carousell. In her open-concept one-bedroom apartment that’s around 800 sq ft, the wood panels and tiles on the wall pair surprisingly well with Brenda’s personal painting collection, resulting in a contemporary-style vintage looking abode that’s unfussy yet functional.

Despite the size of her apartment, the mix-match design makes for a rustic and homely look and feel. Psst, her diagonally-placed grey-white-black tiles (which were repurposed from the roof) are a constant feature — they serve as a cool backdrop to her Instagram posts. 7. Eng Ying Tian (@eyeletskirt)

A sleek monochrome theme like what Ying Tian’s apartment sports is easy, simple and timeless. Her apartment effortlessly exudes simplicity and elegance with its bold strokes of black, white and grey.

She jazzes it up with splashes of Tiffany blue and a bricked wall. The textured rugs in her living room also add a hint of pizzazz. Tip: Rugs can really define and spruce up an entire area.

8. Nellie Lim (@nellielim)

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Nellie Lim (@nellielim)

Nellie and her husband had their solemnisation in their new home back in December 2017 with barely any furniture besides a dining table, bed and her shoe collection (which is neatly framed in a display wardrobe).

Fast forward, their four-storey house, which boasts high ceilings and vast windows, is now adorned with brass furniture, marbled and wooden flooring and velvet chairs, a true testament to Nellie’s exquisite taste. You can track the hashtag #housefiftythree on Instagram or watch her house tour here for a complete view.

Nellie has since moved out of her matrimonial home, House Fifty Three, in January 2022 with her husband, twins, and corgi.

Lights On: Step Inside Melissa Koh's Modern Luxe Farmhouse

It is always important to design a home that matches the lifestyle of its owners. Be it a xanadu-inspired hideaway for the busy nine-to-five workers or content creators who live and breathe their jobs 24/7 while caring for their family at the same time.

As the latter, as well as an entrepreneur and mother, Melissa C Koh shares how her new home has been designed for both practicality and aesthetics.

melissa c koh house tour

Describe your home in 3 words.

Peace, energy and love.

Is the design of your home based on your work and lifestyle?

Yes, we put a lot of thought into the functionality and space planning of our home. For example, we knew we needed a proper home office but we also wanted each boy to have their own room.

Hence, we segregated the living space using a partition wall to create a small but very functional office so we didn’t need to give up one of the rooms for it.  Majority of our work involves photography and we shoot a lot with natural light. We made sure that our home had an abundance of it.

melissa c koh house tour

What's your inspiration for the new space and how is it different from your previous home?

Our previous home had more dark wood elements in it. This time, we went for lighter colours such as marble, cream and a lighter wood – mixing different textures for a more luxurious and elevated look while keeping it cosy and warm.

melissa c koh house tour

Do you have a favourite room?

James loves the dry kitchen because it’s where we prepare food, have a quick breakfast and hearty conversations together. I love the master bathroom because that’s where I spend a lot of “me time”, unwinding with a hot bath and doing my skincare ritual.

How did you choose your lights?

The gypsum recessed lights were a no-brainer because of how unique they were and how they complement the arch in our living room, along with all the curved edges of our furniture.  From a functionality standpoint, we worked closely with Sol Luminaire and Tid Plus to select lighting for each area in the house.

What are some elements you were looking for in the luminaires?

Design, functionality, dim-to-warm capability and smart home compatibility.

melissa c koh house tour

Anything interesting you learnt about lights that you never knew before?

I was quite intrigued by how much of a difference that the right lighting can make when you illuminate artwork or try to create a certain mood or ambience in your home.

Complete this sentence: ‘A home is ...’

A home is an extension and expression of who we are. Every single detail matters.

An Inside Look At Singaporean Influencer Melissa C. Koh’s All-White HDB Home

When newly married couple Melissa C. Koh and James Chen engaged their interior designer for their home renovation project, they didn’t have a specific design theme in mind. All they wanted was a bright and airy home that’s also cosy at the same time.

Compiling mood boards from inspiration sourced from Pinterest, the couple then engaged Richard Tay from local interior design firm SuiteWorks to turn their dream home into a reality.

melissa c koh house tour

While sharing the same space, the living and dining rooms are each characterised by their own set of cove lighting embedded within the ceiling right above, providing a subtle divide between the two zones. Meanwhile, the owners’ mutual love for herringbone patterns are accentuated through the dining table and accompanying side cabinet.

There had to be quite a few changes made to the original layout to make the home more functional for Melissa and James. Firstly, the hallway originally had an unconventional layout, where one would sort of have to employ a “zig-zag” approach when walking into the private living spaces from the communal ones.

As such, Richard recessed the front non-load-bearing wall of the corridor to match the one at the back, creating a straight and more spacious walkway.

Secondly, the whole apartment’s original tiled flooring was laid over with light wood-grained vinyl pieces, which not only complements the dark wood furniture pieces but also serves a practical purpose for the couple’s two dogs. Lastly, brass and gold accents are a central theme in the home, adhering to the couple’s request for a luxe vibe.

While the couple doesn’t spend much time cooking at home due to their busy work schedule, the kitchen features durable fittings in the form of quartz countertops and white subway tiles for the backsplash – a design element that the couple has wanted ever since the start of the renovation process.

A statement piece in the space is a kitchen island—made with quartz countertops and a base clad in marble-like laminates from EDL. Working double duty as a prep space and a storage compartment, the island keeps a dishwasher hidden from sight and has pull-out drawers embedded within for cooking equipment and utensils.

melissa c koh house tour

Providing the couple with additional food prep space is an island unit that’s made from quartz countertops and a base that’s clad in marble-like laminates from EDL. The kitchen island also doubles up as a space where the homeowners can enjoy casual meals and conversations when friends and family visit.

In addition, the unit also provides the couple with an alternative space to have casual meals when it’s just the two of them.

Along the corridor, the first room nearest to the living room is the couple’s home office. Citing the possibility of using it as a baby room in the future, the room did not see any major renovation work done.

Instead, Melissa and James filled the space with loose furnishings in the form of his-and-hers work desks, IKEA book and wall shelves and a towering house-shaped open shelving display cabinet from Commune that can be removed as and when necessary, allowing the dynamics of the space to change in accordance to their needs.

melissa c koh house tour

Loose furniture pieces make up most of the home office’s furnishings, so as to make future modifications easier should the couple decide to expand their family. Meanwhile, the house-shaped shelving unit’s lack of glass panels on the exterior allows natural light to penetrate through, preventing it from making the space feel cramped despite being the bulkiest item in the room.

Furthest into the apartment are the couple’s private chambers. The master bedroom and en suite are separated by a tempered glass sliding door that makes the overall room feel more spacious with the vast amount of natural light flowing through.

Meanwhile, a pair of hanging pendant lights frame the luxurious king-sized bed, with its brass elements complementing the dark wood furniture pieces – which were procured from Commune – in the room. Next to it, a day bed with open storage units underneath was installed along the bay window, providing the homeowners with an area to wind the day down or to relax with a good book and a cup of tea in hand.

SquareRooms-SuiteWorks-Melissa-C-Koh-bedroom-bay-window-day-bed

In the master boudoir, a pair of hanging pendant lights frame the luxurious King-sized bed, with the brass finishes complementing the dark wood tones found in the furniture. Meanwhile, the bay window was converted into a day bed, with storage underneath for miscellaneous items.

The master bath was fully laid over with marble tiles to maintain the luxurious design theme of the home, and a wall-to-wall mirror sits atop the quartz sink countertop making the bathroom appear larger. In the shower zone, the floor features Moroccan-inspired tile accents, and the wall on which the contemporary shower system is mounted was clad with white subway tiles, adorning the space with texture and character.

Sharing the same space as the master boudoir, but separated by bi-fold swing doors is Melissa’s walk-in closet that houses her extensive collection of shoes, bags and clothes. Clad predominantly in white with gold accents, the space exudes a luxurious ambience for the fashion-forward lady.

melissa c koh house tour

Injecting some personality into the master bath is the use of white subway wall tiles and Moroccan-inspired floor tiles in the shower zone, the former serving as visual consistency with the kitchen.

In their original plans, the couple had actually requested closed-door wardrobes, thinking it more practical. But as that design option would not give off the “wow” factor one usually experiences when going into a walk-in wardrobe, they went for floor-to-ceiling open shelving instead. Tucked into a corner of the room is a vanity desk, accompanied by a large mirror and chair that further adds to the luxe vibe with its striking gold frame.

melissa c koh house tour

The extensive renovation work and slight delays to some minor projects meant that it was a six-month wait before the couple could start building their new life as husband and wife in the new home. But the result was definitely worth the wait because now, the five-room flat is transformed into a luxurious abode that’s fully equipped and perfectly styled for its owners.

Marriage to James Chen (2017)

In October 2015, Melissa uploaded a YouTube video featuring her childhood friend and new boyfriend, James Chen. [11] In a 2016 interview with Her World , James revealed that he resigned as a finance analyst to be Melissa's paid photographer. [12] The couple were officially engaged at Church of the Risen Christ in September 2016. [13]

Melissa and James flew to Paris, France for their engagement shoot in collaboration with The Wedding Scoop . They were photographed by Claire Morris and filmmaker Chris from Zen Film Works. [14] In 2016, the couple held a private engagement event in Bali, Indonesia. [15]

Melissa and James were married in August 2017. Their two-day wedding comprised of a church wedding ceremony, gatecrash and dinner banquet at The Ritz Carlton, Millenia Singapore. [16] [17] [18] [19] Melissa and James faced backlash for their "sponsored wedding". However, Melissa revealed that although there were sponsorships, the couple still spent a hefty amount on the wedding. [20]

Melissa announced via Instagram that she was pregnant with her first child on 8 January 2019. [21] [22] 3 months later on 29 May, Noah Tobias Chen was born. [23]

The couple welcomed their second child, Asher Matthias Chen, on 17 June 2021. [24] On 24 June 2021, Melissa shared on Instagram that Asher had gone for open-heart surgery on June 18 to treat a heart condition, and that he has made “positive progress” in his recovery. [25] [26]

Passing of her second child, Asher Matthias Chen

In an Instagram post on 7 April, Melissa revealed that her second son, Asher Matthias Chen had passed away. Her Instagram story invited family and friends to attend Baby Asher's wake and funeral. The wake spans from 5-10 April 2023, and the funeral mass is to be held on 10 April 2023 at 2.30pm at Church of St Mary Of The Angels. [28] Prior to the announcement, Melissa had posted a cryptic photo on Instagram of her and Asher standing on a beach with a white heart emoji as the caption. Many messages of support flooded the comment section with friends and concerned netizens asking about Asher's condition. [29]

Melissa started blogging at about 15 years old and continued to do so throughout her time at Credit Suisse. [30] As of August 2019, Melissa's site consists of entries about motherhood tips based on her own experiences, home and living posts and style diaries, to name a few.

Through her social media platforms and her blog, Melissa has collaborated with brands such as Moët & Chandon, Hera Beauty, Revolve, Dior, Coach, Kate Spade, Tods, Carolina Herrera, Tiffany & Co, Swarovski, Singapore Airlines, The Belmond Group and various hotels and tourism boards. Over the years, Melissa has been featured in publications such as The Straits Times , The New Paper and Her World Singapore . In 2015, she was the cover girl for SHAPE magazine .

Initial launch (2015)

In 2015, Melissa launched the first collection of her fashion label 'Run After' at Digital Fashion Week Singapore. [31] Melissa partnered with ELLE for Digital Fashion Week Singapore where the 'Cruise 2016' collection walked the runway. [32]

This first collection was available for purchase on Zalora and at the Buro pop-up in Scotts Square. [33]

Relaunch (2018)

Melissa relaunched the brand in 2018 after a one-year hiatus from the business. [34] To her, the name Run After symbolises the act of pursuit and the vision of the fashion label to inspire customers to chase their dreams. [35] The fashion label prioritises high-quality fabric and textiles for its apparel range. [36] The label features a range of tops, bottoms and dresses ranging from S$79 to S$149.

As of 2023, Run After is defunct and is assumed to have been for quite some time, since their website domains are inaccessible.

Some Days at Home (2018)

Melissa launched her home and lifestyle brand 'Some Days at Home' in 2018. Described as her passion project, Some Days at Home is a site for Melissa to curate local brands and promote their products. The project is a way for her to feature smaller brands with high-quality products that she can vouch for. [37]

As of August 2019, the site features products ranging from up-cycled wood earrings to soaps made by single mothers. Melissa revealed that the profits made from the online store will be donated to The Assisi Hospice. [38]

Like Run After, Some Days at Home is assumed to be defunct and inactive for a while now, and their website domains are inaccessible as of 2023.

Little for Longer (2021 - Present)

In 2021, Melissa launched kids lifestyle brand Little for Longer with her husband James. [39] The online store sells various kids’ apparel and minimalist furniture items designed for kids. [40]

“Feeling the nostalgia of our firstborn growing up so quickly into an older brother, we wanted to cherish every bit of his growing up moments, filling his time and space with little things that help him to develop and engage, while keeping all these beautiful milestones close to heart. We hope to be able to bring the same joy of our little one’s most magical years through products that we curate and share.” [40]

1. Jamie Chua (@ec24m)

One of Singapore’s most prominent socialites and influencers, Jamie Chua lives in the house of our dreams. Her immaculately furnished mansion is a common background in many of her Instagram pictures, a perfect backdrop for her OOTDs.

With the help of Norman Yeo, creative director at One Stop Concept, Jamie’s 10,000 sq ft mansion is the epitome of stylish modernity and luxury with an edge, with touches of marble, glass and wood.

It’s adorned with her collection of contemporary art, elegant accessories and designer furnishings. Her bedroom and walk-in wardrobe (which is a full-sized room) are also a sight to behold.

You can have a better view of her mansion through her YouTube videos here .

We’re all familiar with Naomi Neo, another iconic influencer in the scene. Naomi Neo and her husband H welcomed their baby boy Kyzo last June and Baby K’s nursery is one of the cutest ever.

Following a colour scheme of white and grey (Naomi’s a lover of neutrals), Baby K’s nursery is both dreamy and cosy, perfect for both mother and child to rest in.

For a better view of the nursery, watch Naomi’s baby’s nursery tour here. Naomi’s bedroom is also simple but Instagram-worthy, with shades of brown and white dominating the colour scheme and frames of inspirational quotes found all over the space.

4. Wendy Cheng (@xiaxue)

View this post on Instagram                   My new living room!! So Dash is old enough to roam the house now and there is no need for a playpen to lock him in anymore. Since the playpen was no longer in use, I packed it up and replaced it with… This! Got some fake grass and created a little cozy campsite for Dash with a teepee tent, which was given to me by @ujubaba! Thank you so much for the adorable little tent, which Dash loves!!! He keeps running in and out and hiding inside. They have many designs and are based in Indonesia but will ship overseas. In the corner is Dash’s little piano and xylophone, with stuffed toys. The little picnic basket is filled with his smaller books. I also moved the slide here (unfortunately colour doesn’t match house’s theme but oh well dash is in love with it) because it was originally really out of place at the balcony, and when Dash plays at the balcony he is hidden behind the couch and we can’t monitor him. Now Dash has a proper little play area! I love how having a kid lets you get so adventurous when it comes to home decor. He loves his little nook and I’m a happy mama! Now I just need to get more kids to come over so they can all fully utilize my efforts!! @ripplesim @junnebae @_xf_ @bongqiuqiu lai lai lai!! A post shared by Wendy Cheng Xiaxue (@xiaxue) on Jun 18, 2015 at 4:41pm PDT
View this post on Instagram                   Dash is in love with his little indoor playground… And so is my mom, she is hiding in the tent. Lol #老少咸宜 A post shared by Wendy Cheng Xiaxue (@xiaxue) on Jun 20, 2015 at 9:31am PDT
