motorbike tour sri lanka

The roads on this tour are usually well paved and have two lanes. On some sections of the road there are typical potholes.

motorbike tour sri lanka

Most of the route is on good, paved roads. Two-lane roads alternate with narrow, single-lane mountain roads. Riders should be comfortable with hairpin bends and narrow, winding roads. Rough surfaces, potholes and the occasional unpaved road shouldn’t be a problem.

Sri Lanka Motorcycle Tour Itinerary

Day 1: day 1: arrival day negombo.

Arrive by plane. Transfer to the your hotel in Negombo. Spend the rest of the day relaxing on the beach and in the hotel garden. The varied history of Negombo is reflected in the townscape. We still find water canals that exude a Dutch flair, Portuguese and English sacral buildings. If there is time and mood, we visit the impressive fish market early in the morning, including one of the largest markets for tuna fish in the world. The dry fish market also offers an odour intensive but very picturesque experience.

Arrival in Leh

Day 2: Negombo – Kalpitiya

In the morning we start with a leisurely ride with our Royal Enfield Bullets along the coast to Kalpitiya, a straight ride where you have the opportunity to get to know the bikes and the local driving style. The afternoon is spent relaxing on the secluded lagoon at our Resort. If someone wants to see dolphins, evening / early morning excursions can be arranged from here.

Distance covered: approx. 130 km

Day 3: Kalpitiya – Aukana – Dambulla

We ride to Dambulla mainly through lush green landscapes adorned with lakes, rice fields and hills. Halfway we visit a hidden gem, the Buddha statue in Aukana. This statute from the 6th century expresses calm and serenity in a haunting manner. Despite its gigantic size, the figure is astonishingly filigree: For example, the robe that the Buddha has thrown ruffles into such a multitude of fine folds that one might think that it would actually be churned up by the wind. The face shows a perfect expression of meditative, unearthly calm. The right hand is raised in the “gesture of blessing” Ashiva Mudra.

In the late afternoon we visit the impressive Buddhist caves of Dambulla from the 2nd century BC. When in 104 BC the second great Tamil invasion took place, King Valagama Bahu was forced to leave his capital Anuradhapura. The king fled to the rock caves of Dambulla, about 70 km south of Anuradhapura. When he returned to the capital after 14 years in exile, he left a grand cave temple complex. The granite rock of Dambulla is approx.

170 metres high, the five cave temples are located at a height of approx. 110 metres the walls and ceiling paintings show scenes from the life of Buddha and Sri Lankan history, including the arrival of Vijaya, the ancestor of the Sinhalese in Sri Lanka. Some pictures depict scenes from Anuradhapura, such as “planting the holy Bodhi tree”.

Snake Buddha statue at Likir Monastery

Day 4: Dambulla -Sigiriya – Nilaveli

We visit the famous mountain of Sigiriya early in the morning to avoid the sun and the crowds. Incredible what extravagant palace King Kassyapa, AD 500 must have lived. Spiral stairs lead up to the frescoes by the cloud girls and the palace in the sky. Don’t worry, if you don’t want to climb the mountain, you can stay in the shady garden. It continues through the tropically fertile landscape on the east coast to Trincomalee. We spend two nights in the deserted and heavenly beach of Nilaveli, overnight in beautiful Beach Villas.

Distance covered: approx. 120 km

Day 5: Nilaveli beach day: Relaxing has never been more beautiful

We enjoy miles of pristine beaches. For the restless among us there is a short trip to the city of Trincomalee or the option of snorkeling.

Across the water to Chilling

Day 6: Nilaveli – Polonnaruwa

Beautiful stage to Polonnaruwa past rice fields and small lakes full of lotus flowers and water lilies. In Polonnaruwa we visit the charming old Buddhist site of Gal Vihara, the carved Buddhas are among the most beautiful in the world. In the evening we have the opportunity to try delicious local food in the middle of rice fields and learn the subtleties of Sri Lankan cuisine.

Distance covered: approx. 140 km

Day 7: Polonaruwa – Riverstone – Kandy

Today we ride one route highlight after another. From Polonaruwa we ride into the highlands to Kandy, idyllically situated at a height of 500 m between forested hills on a lake. We take the scenic Riverstone Road with endless curves and spectacular slopes. Overnight in the cultural capital Kandy. We visit the most sacred shrine in Sri Lanka, the Temple of the Tooth. According to myth and folklore, a tooth is worshiped here by Lord Buddha. On the first floor of the temple, the Udamale, a “right molar Buddha” is kept in a shrine. It is enclosed in an elongated container, richly covered with precious stones, called “Karanduwa”, which in turn lies in a large container.

There are seven such wrappings in total. The capital of the Kingdom of Kandy, founded in the 16th century, was able to remain independent until the beginning of the 19th century and defend itself against the colonial invaders. Only the British, who replaced the Dutch in their rule, were able to integrate the Kingdom of Kandy into the crown colony of Ceylon. The Sri Lankans still refer to Kandy as their cultural capital.

Distance covered: approx. 170 km

Camel ride in the dunes at Diskit

Day 8: Kandy – Knuckles

We have a leisurely morning with a walk around Kandy Lake and some shopping if desired. Then we get back on our motorcycles and ride to a remote corner of the Knuckles Mountains. The road that leads to our resort has seen better days, but it is definitely worth the trip. Some spectacular views await us. Here we are on a remote part of the island in the middle of cardamom and spice plantations. In the evening, there is an off-road excursion deeper into the mountain landscape for all adventure riders.

Distance covered: approx. 60 km

Day 9 : Knuckles – Ella

Another beautiful and spectacular day of riding awaits us today. The ride from Knuckle to Ella goes past tea plantations, waterfalls and small villages to Ella. The impressive Ravana Ella waterfall, 120 meters high, pours south from here. According to tradition, the demon Ravana brought the captured Sita here when he was persecuted by Rama and the monkey god Hanuman. Sita is said to have bathed in the pool at the foot of the waterfall. A 2 km hike leads from Ella to the Ravana Cave, a cave in which Ravana is said to have held the kidnapped Sita. Four kilometres further on, you finally reach the Ravana Ella Rock at 1,350 metres. According to legend, Hanuman climbed up here to look for Sita. In Tea Country past endless hills lined with precious tea bushes, we will spend the night in a beautiful lodge in the small hill station Ella, with its nice hippie traveler atmosphere.

Motorcycling along the banks of Lake Pangong

Day 10: Ella

On the motorcycle-free day in Ella we take a small hike that takes about 4-5 hours. A complete change of scenery is revealed on a mountain saddle located 2134 meters above sea level, the legendary cloud forest of the Horton Plains. Tropical mountain plants and bizarre rock formations reinforce the mystical impression. We hike over the plateau to the “World’s End”, which offers a wonderful panoramic view of the 500 metre lower level.

Day 11: Ella- Haputale- Nuwara Eliya

Morning ride to Lipton’s seat and then in a tea factory we learn more about tea and tea making. We spend the night in Nuwara Eliya (1900 m) with its colonial charm. Nuwara Eliya, mostly called Nurelia for short, was only “discovered” in 1826 by some British officers who had strayed there while hunting elephants. At that time it was still a tiny sleepy village, but soon a rapid development began and the British governor of Ceylon built a residence there, today’s “Wattles Inn”. The governor recognised Nurelia’s potential as a climatic health resort, and a recovery station was opened there in 1829 at his request. As a result, many of his countrymen flocked to Nurelia. The colonial officials had English country houses built, which could also have been in Cornwall or Yorkshire.

In 1875 a racecourse was added and in 1889 a golf club. Nuwara Eliya (“Royal City of Light”) became “Little England”. Nurelia lies on a plain about 6.5 km long and 2.5 km wide and is surrounded by mountains all around. The soil, consisting of a deep layer of black topsoil over layers of yellow clay and gravel, gave every gardener euphoria. On its north side, Pidurutagala (Mt.Pedro) rises the highest mountain in Sri Lanka at 2540 metres. The springs gushing in the area brought crystal-clear, pure water to light, which one knew how to use very well: Sri Lanka’s first brewery, the Lion Brewery, was founded here in 1911.

Lake Tso Moriri

Day 12: Newark – Hatton – Udawalawe

We slowly return to the plain after thousands of turns. A real biker pleasure to ride on small private biker streets. We will rest for the night in the enchanting surroundings of the Udawalawe National Park. Here we change vehicles and drive jeeps on an elephant safari.

Distance covered: approx. 150 km

Day 13: Udawalawe – Mirissa

The last stage of the ride leads through the plain, but very scenic. We ride on good roads to the picturesque and lively beach town of Mirissa. We say goodbye to the bikes.

Distance covered: approx. 94 km

Ride over the wooden bridge to Shakti Valley

Day 14: Mirissa

Relaxation day on the beach. We also pay a visit to the UNESCO World Heritage Galle and take an atmospheric evening stroll there. Galle owes its legendary reputation as a tourist attraction primarily to its well-preserved old town, whose origins date back to the 16th century. Lying on a promontory and surrounded by thick walls, it protects the wide, curved bay like a fortress. Traders from Arabia and China met here a thousand years ago to do business with each other. Today it is a successful exotic mix of Asian present and colonial-European past. A popular destination also for the country’s local elites, many nostalgics, artists, dropouts and late colonialists bustle here. Farewell dinner with a view of the Indian Ocean. It’s time to say goodbye.

Day 15: Mirissa – Katunayake Airport – Back Home

The guided Sri Lanka motorcycle tour ends in Mirissa. If you want to extend your beach vacation, you can do so here at the Paradise Beach Club. Alternatively, there is also a good Ayurveda resort. We organise the transfer directly from the hotel in Mirissa to the airport (3 hours drive max.).

Distance covered: approx. 176 km

Questions & Answers

  • B: India General

Do I need a visa for India?

Visitors to India need a tourist visa, which you must obtain in advance. Visas are not issued on arrival. Your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond the period of your stay. The e-Tourist Visa costs around 20 to 80 euros and you can apply for it online. Important note: The terms for the e-Tourist Visa can be found here: https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/visa/tvoa.html The visa application itself can be found here: https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/visa/info1.jsp

What do I need to bring along for a motorcycle tour?

You will definitely want to bring your riding suit with protectors and a helmet. You will also need motorcycle boots or lighter riding shoes and gloves. While your gear should be breathable in hot climates, you need to be ready for anything at high altitudes and in the Himalayas. We recommend winter gloves, warm socks, liners for jackets and trousers, a scarf and face protection. Rain gear is a good idea if your riding suit is not waterproof. Please note that we do not hire out clothing. We believe that your own riding gear will fit best and thus give you the best protection. If you forget anything, we’ll find a solution, however. We often have spare gear with us, or we can point you in the direction of a shop.

Do I need travel insurance and travel health insurance?

We always recommend that you take out travel insurance to cover costs incurred if you need to cancel the trip due to illness or other reasons. When shopping for travel health insurance, make sure the policy covers the potentially high cost of medical evacuation to your home country. Both forms of insurance can save you a lot of money in an emergency and we recommend them unreservedly. In many countries, your national motoring organization can provide the coverage you need.

What should I keep in mind when riding with a passenger?

Riding two-up is almost always possible. In difficult terrain or on rough tracks, every passenger has a guaranteed seat in the support vehicle to keep things relaxed for both rider and pillion.

Do pillion passengers have a guaranteed seat in the support vehicle?

Yes, all passengers have a guaranteed seat. In bad weather or challenging riding conditions, they can switch to the support vehicle at any time – and back to the bike when conditions improve.

How big are the groups? What’s the minimum number of participants?

Groups generally consist of 8 to 14 riders and 2 to 6 passengers. The minimum number of participants is 6 riders.

What’s the Classic Bike Adventure travel team like?

Our European tour guides are skilled motorcyclists and inveterate travelers who love India. They’re resilient in the face of stress and know the history and culture of the regions they cover. Our Indian mechanics are experienced Enfield specialists who all speak English and are happy to help with any technical problem, great or small. A stand-in rider is always available. More information on our travel concept is available here .

What kind of bikes will we ride?

We ride 500cc Royal Enfield Bullets manufactured from 2014 to 2017 that feature electric starters, 5-speed gearboxes with the gearshift on the left, front disk brakes, roomy and rugged leather saddlebags, crashbars, 19” tires and twin horns.

What do I need in the way of documents?

You will need your passport, national driving license, international driving license and flight ticket. Please be sure to make photocopies of all of your important travel documents and carry them separately. They can be invaluable in an emergency.

What are the import regulations for India?

Up to 200 cigarettes and 2 liters of alcohol may be imported duty-free. All international cigarette and spirits brands are available in India. Customs checks of arriving tourists have become considerably less strict in recent years.

Do I need a driving license?

All riders must have a valid motorcycle driving license issued in their home country. An international driving license is also required. Be sure to contact the relevant authorities in your home country well in advance for more information on obtaining an international driving license.

Will I need maps?

Simple street maps are often available locally. The best road maps are available from the German publishers Reise Know How and Nelles. These are only available in specialized bookstores or online.

Where can I stow my bags?

Your baggage will be carried by the support vehicle. Please don’t pack too much – remember: less is more. From time to time, we’ll have to carry our baggage over short distances to the hotel. Baggage is not insured, so please be sure to purchase your own baggage insurance for the trip if necessary. Your personal items for the day are best kept in the saddlebags or your daypack. Tank bags – including magnetic ones – can be used on the Enfields, but we don’t provide them.

Do I need to buy an Indian SIM card for my phone?

European SIM cards now work almost everywhere in India. You’ll need patience if you want a local SIM card, as the registration takes a minimum of three days, and in some regions it is not possible at all.

How much is the deposit for the bike?

Riders must make a deposit of USD/EUR 500.00 in cash for their bikes. The deposit will be refunded when the bike is returned in good condition. The deposit corresponds to the comprehensive insurance deductible for damage to the rented bike and damage or injuries to third parties caused by the rider. (The deductible is payable in such cases!)

Important note: The deductible also applies to damage or injury to third parties. In practice, the rider is initially liable for the full damages. The costs are later refunded by the insurance company, minus the deductible.

What are the specs of the bikes?

Technical specifications: Single-cylinder four-stroke, 499 cc, 16 kW (28 bhp) at 4,600 rpm, 178 kg, 80 cm seat height, 123 kph max.

Our Enfields were manufactured from 2013 to 2017 and are well-maintained. Naturally, some of them bear the minor battle scars typical of touring motorcycles. Technically, they are all in top shape and perfectly suited to the planned tours. They’re tremendous fun to ride, and their handling is safe and predictable after a brief familiarization period. Our average speeds on the tour range from 40 to 60 kph, depending on the road conditions and traffic.

On which side do you ride in India?

Indians drive on the left. The flexible and generally considerate driving style of the locals makes it easy to adjust to riding on the “wrong side” and coping with traffic conditions that initially seem chaotic. The behavior of pedestrians and cyclists, and the frequent presence of animals on the road call for considerably more attention, however. Extreme caution is required around children. Further information on traffic and riding can be found here and here .

What kind of food and drinks will we be having in India?

Western food is generally not available, so we’ll be having simple, often vegetarian meals as well as regional specialties throughout the tour. Hearty breakfasts will not always be available. We can promise you a wide range of cuisine, with a special emphasis on local specialties. In general, a lot of curry is served in India, and little meat – chicken being the most common non-vegetarian food – but plenty of vegetables, legumes and rice. Indian cuisine is generally well-spiced, easily digestible and not overly hot. Vegetarians will have no problems in India. Indian beer is not always up to international standards. The most common brands are Kingfisher, Castle and San Miguel. The local Chang beer is quite effective but requires a bit of getting used to. Wine – when it’s available – is even more of an acquired taste than Chang. Mineral water and beverages such as Coca Cola can be purchased anywhere and must be carried individually.

Should I bring Indian rupees to India, or are US dollars preferable?

You are not allowed to bring Indian currency into the country or take it out. You may bring the equivalent of up to US$ 5,000 in foreign currency into the country without prior notice. We recommend bringing euros in €50 and €100 notes. Please make a note of the daily exchange rate to avoid getting a bad rate at the airport. American Express Traveler’s Cheques are no longer in common use and will cause unnecessary hassles. Credit cards (Maestro, Visa and MasterCard) with PINs can be used for cash advances from ATMs in many towns. You will need the equivalent of around €100 to €150 for drinks, lunch and tips per week.

What’s a typical day on the road like?

A travel day normally begins at 8 am with breakfast. Around 9 am, after a short briefing by the road captain, it’s time for the day’s riding, the mileage of which can vary quite a bit. Plenty of time will be available for lunch and coffee breaks, of course. Depending on the day’s mileage, we’ll reach the destination hotel between 3 and 4 pm. Since our tours vary considerably, we may also hit the road at 8 am on high-mileage days – which is also nice, because then we have the whole day ahead of us.

What’s the time difference?

Indian standard time is 5.5 hours ahead of GMT.

Tour Name: Sri Lanka Bike Trip Tour ID: 10568 Tour type: Scheduled Duration: 08 days Distance: 890 km Maximum: 15 bikes, 20 – 25 participants Best Season: December – April

Brief about the tour: Experience the varied landscapes from Beach to Hills to Waterfalls to Wildlife as we offer you the best bike trip across Sri Lanka. The terrain changes within few km as we travel from North to South. You begin your Journey from Negombo and head towards the hills in Kandy, enroute visit Pinnawala an elephant orphanage and also enjoy the various cultural dances. As you go further you enter the dense mountain range and explore jungles with adventure on every turn in Knuckles range. Continue riding as you hit a series of waterfalls called Ramboda and Visit Tea Factory and Horton Plains National Park. Enroute you ride to visit the Ravana Ella, Buddhist rock and Yala National Park. Explore the famous Mirissa beach and spend some relaxing time there. You can also visit the historic city of Galle and explore the Dutch Fort. Continue your tour to Kitulgala and indulge in some adventure activities. Conclude your tour, and get transferred to the airport for your return journey.

Day 1 Airport – Negombo

On arrival at Bandaranaike International airport, you will be welcomed by our destination specialist who will take you to Negombo. The economy of the town and the region is mainly based on tourism and its centuries-old fishing industry which continues to thrive today – making it a paradise for seafood lovers. Here, myriad cultures mix and exist freely. The town, which is predominantly Roman Catholic, is called “Little Rome” due to the highly ornate Portuguese-era Roman Catholic churches found within it. The 100km long canal – still very much in use, runs through and a boat ride will offer a different perspective of the city. The wide beaches and the gentle surf are ideal for water sports and a few well preserved coral reefs and a 50 year old shipwreck attracts divers too. Arrive and check in to the Hotel. Dinner and overnight stay at Leighton Resort.

Day 2 Negombo - Sigiriya (via Dambulla)

Distance: 145 km

After Breakfast, start your ride to Sigiriya. The ultimate icon of Sri Lanka’s historic past, the giant rock fortress of Sigiriya arises high above the flat landscape, surrounded by jungle on all sides. A testimony to the inventiveness of the ancient civilizations of the land, the once impenetrable stronghold of King Kassapa, ‘Sihagiri’ or Lion’s Rock as it was called then, is considered to be the 8th wonder of the world today. The feats of artistry, architecture and engineering at Sigiriya continue to impress visitors with their utter magnificence, even thousands of years on. Intricately landscaped pleasure gardens sprawl out below the rock, giant lion paws hewn in stone mark the entrance to the fortress at its foot, a highly polished mirror wall still carries the scrawled writings of ancient poets. Arrive and check in to the hotel. In the evening, climb the sky fortress of Sri Lanka. Dinner and overnight stay at Saunter paradise, Sigiriya.

Day 3 Sigiriya – Knuckles - Matale

Distance: 155 km

Breakfast at the Hotel. Check out and ride to Matale via Knuckles. Visit the Dambulla Cave Temple. The largest and the best preserved cave monastery in the island, Dambulla is a sacred pilgrimage site for followers of Buddhism for no less than 22 centuries. A cave complex comprising five sanctuaries, they were already established as important monasteries as far back as the 3rd century BC. At first, the caves were a refuge for King Valagambahu in 1st century BC. Returning from exile to his throne at Anuradhapura, he turned the caves into a magnificent temple for the monks who sheltered him. Protected and enhanced by successive kings it has continued to be a place of great religious significance up to today. A World heritage Conservation Area with a wide array of endemic fauna and flora, it is still very much an untouched zone of astoundingly rich biodiversity. With varied terrain of grasslands, rugged mountain peaks interspersed with streams and cascading waterfalls it is an 18512 hectares of paradise for trekkers and nature lovers alike. The Knuckles mountain range comprises 34 peaks between1900 meters to 900 meters in height. The five high peaks of the range looks similar to a clenched fist from a distance, hence its name. The popular hiking trails lead to a drop called ‘mini world’s end’; the high vantage point of ‘Corbett’s gap’, to the ‘Nitro’ and Augallena caves, and you can explore the rural village of Meemure along the way. Dinner and overnight stay at The Grand Mountain Hotel, Matale.

Day 4 Matale – Kandy

Distance: 25 km

Breakfast at the Hotel. Check-out and ride to Kandy. Enroute – visit to the Spice Garden in Matale, 20 minutes Head massage for the travellers visiting the Spice Garden). In the evening, walk in the Royal Botanical Garden of Peradeniya. The cultural epicenter and the hill capital of the island, Kandy is Sri Lanka’s second city and home to the Temple of the Tooth – the country’s most important religious shrine, and the traditional pageant the Esala Perahera. Although modernity and urban sprawl has changed the face of this once quaint hill station, it still carries a regal atmosphere with graceful Kandyan style architecture mingling with colonial buildings set around a tranquil lake surrounded by green hills. The kingdom of Kandy was the last stronghold of the Sinhalese, clinging to its sovereignty long after the island had fallen to the Portuguese and Dutch and the English, preserving its own unique customs and culture until the very last. Visit the Temple of the Tooth Relic in the Evening. Arrive and check in to the Hotel. Dinner and overnight stay at Gagaadara hotel, Kandy.

Day 5 Kandy – Nuwara Eliya

Distance: 80 km

Breakfast at the Hotel. Ride to Nuwara Eliya via Ramboda. On the way, visit the Tea Factory Plantation to witness the process how the world famous Ceylon Tea is being made. Hidden away high in the central mountains at an altitude of over 6000 feet, Nuwara Eliya is the resort capital of the hills – and a world away from the hot tropical beach atmosphere of the coast, not just in climate but in its character too. The British planters who flocked to the region to grow tea in the mid-19th century developed Nuwara Eliya as their summer retreat. Created as an exact replica of an English town it is often called ‘Little England’; and with its primarily colonial architecture, the stately Victoria Park, golf course, racing track, boating lake and grand period style hotels – and the cold, frequent showers of rain adding to the illusion, you could well be in an old English country town. This is the heart of the tea country, and is also a good base for excursions to discover other attractions of the hills. Arrive and check in to the Hotel. Dinner and overnight stay at Ashley Resort, Nuwara Eliya.

Day 6 Nuwara Eliya – Kitulgala – Mirissa

Distance: 280 km

After Breakfast, ride to Hikkaduwa via Kitulgala. It is also a popular destination for outbound training programmes. This is an area of rolling hills, tropical rain forests and winding rivers, snug in the wet zone with two monsoons each year. For white water enthusiasts, the river offers enough spills for experienced paddlers and novices alike. However, it is imperative that you do so through a reputed and certified operator with qualified guides. Kitulgala offers rafting on Grade 3 and 4 rapids down the Kelani River swishing down through jungle, tea and rubber plantations. Just off the river, a small primeval forest, home to about 54 rare species of birds offers exciting explorations for the nature lover. Continue to Mirissa. Regarded as the closest point to where the giant Blue whales congregate due to favourable sea conditions. The ocean around Mirissa is popular with the giants of the sea – no less than five types of whales (blue whale, Bryde’s whale, sperm whale, killer whale and pilot whale) and four kinds of dolphins (spinner dolphin, bottle nosed dolphin, striped dolphin, Risso’s dolphin) can be spotted. There are many that offer ocean trips to see these giants but it is advisable to pick certified tour operators and guides. Off shore, the pace of life is quiet with a scattering of guest houses and simple cafes on the beach. Mirissa also offers water sports facilities such as sailing, fishing, coastal cruises, river trips, sea kayaking, snorkeling and boating for those looking for some action. Arrive and check inn to the Hotel. Dinner and overnight stay at Hotel Espirit Di Ci, Mirissa.

Day 7 Mirissa – Bentota

Distance: 95 km

Breakfast at the Hotel. Ride to Bentota. It is a destination for water sports such as jet skiing, deep sea and river fishing, banana boat rides, river cruise, etc., to name a few. It is an ideal place for a sea swim or if you just want to sit out in the sun reading a book. If you venture out of town towards the southern coast, there are plenty of things you can do during the day. It is also 56 kms north of the UNESCO World Heritage site of Galle which you could drive up for the day and return in the evening. You can also enjoy some local ‘Toddy’ (Alcohol prepared from Coconut) brewed early in the morning which might get you buzzing, fresh water sea food in a nearby restaurant, visit a turtle hatchery, witness the production of wooden masks all within a short distance from Bentota. You can also drive up and witness the beautifully landscaped property known as ‘Lunuganga’ designed by the world famous architect Geoffrey Bawa which is just 5 km inland from the Bentota town. The town is also famous for its ‘Ayurveda’ treatment which is an ancient herbal treatment for the body, mind and soul. There are hotels which specialize specifically for this treatment which requires a certain period and a special diet. Arrive and check in to the hotel. Dinner and overnight stay at Oasey Beach Hotel, Bentota.

Day 8 Bentota – Negombo – Airport

Distance: 115 km

Breakfast at the Hotel then ride to Negombo. Departure transfer to the airport. (Depending on the Departure Time)

Recent Reviews

One of the most important things on a motorcycle trip is the having trouble free motorcycles and I think they excelled at providing these. The arrangements starting from accomodation right upto support staff was excellent!

A special shot out to Akhil for overseeing and troubleshooting and adding the much needed fun and humour to the whole trip!

Shashank is by far the best mechanic I have come across with confidence to handle any and every issue of the bike ! Cheers and thanks for all the efforts !

It was an amazing experience with them specially the team management Time punctuality and all of the things which are included. I’m looking forward to go with you guys again Can’t wait

A well organized Touring company who has a group of talented people which will make your journey memorable. Also, Sufiyan & Akhil did the great job being focussed to fulfill our small & some important wishes of providing Soups to unwell in unlike weather or Hot water arrangements in Cold conditions.

All was well taken care of. Kudos to their efforts!

Thanks for everything.

The trip with them was very interesting and the tour was well organized

It was a fabulous trip. they were vry gd…. I totlly recommend them…

Its was excellent.. and they provide best services..

Our team leader Khusboo always helped us to manage the timings room issues and taking the team together. The entire group we got was like home away from home. The bikes were mostly in good shape but the mechanic needs to be better. Our mechanic didn’t had any answer when we asked bout our brakes and clutches. However due to a good management and all the things promised to us in itenary were delivered to us.. We really dnt ve any thing bad to say.

it was really nice and memorable!! best thing was management

This was a Fantastic experience with you guys. Captains were cool. Looking forward to join you soon again for another adventure & more memories.👍

It was a great experience with the group. I am glad we made good friends during the trip. Rosy has already given the feedback. Thanks to our captain Kushboo due to which we met many good friends Pan India.

This was my first trip with them and I must say the experience was wroth it. We had such wonderful time! Thank you for your attention to details and organizing so well for all of us. Food was finger licking good. And the captain were just too good and quick to action.

This was my first solo trip, without my friends and trust me ,the trip captains & the other people in the group were so considerate! I made friends out of strangers. The whole trip was so comfortable, in terms of travel, food & stay. But I would suggest them to be little strict with pre-decided itinerary. Otherwise, the whole experience was so good!

DISCOVER BEAUTIFUL SRI LANKA

About sri lanka.

motorbike tour sri lanka

Known to travelers from ancient times, Sri Lanka continues to entice visitors with its breathtaking scenery, palm-skirted beaches, cool hill country and historic monuments. Sri Lanka is one of the smallest land masses on earth to be full of such an amazing variety of experiences for the traveler.

Tropical forests harbor pristine wildlife sanctuaries, significant Buddhist relics and religious monuments are found in the undulating highlands while deserted golden sand beaches make up the southern coast.

Irrespective of their cultural background, Sinhalese, Tamil and Muslim locals will welcome you with pride. Pride in their criminally underrated cuisine, pride in their national parks and wildlife, and – especially – pride in their national cricket team.

Faced with funding a war and weathering a global financial crisis, Sri Lanka’s proud population has been doing it tough for a few years. But equipped with a stellar combination of scenery, culture, and history, a growing focus on sustainable tourism and (hopefully) a more settled society, Sri Lanka is firmly back on the radar for curious travelers seeking unique experiences. Tour Sri Lanka with HAMA and immerse yourself in this wonderful country.

when to ride

Sri Lanka is tropical, with distinct dry and wet seasons. The seasons are slightly complicated by having two monsoons. From May to August the Yala monsoon brings rain to the island’s southwestern half, while the dry season here lasts from December to March. The southwest has the highest rainfall – up to 4,000mm a year. The Maha monsoon blows from October to January, bringing rain to the North and East, while the dry season is from May to September. The North and East are comparatively dry, with around 1,000mm of rain annually. There is also an inter-monsoonal period in October and November when rain can occur in many parts of the island.

Colombo and the low-lying coastal regions have an average temperature of 27°C. At Kandy (altitude 500m), the average temperature is 20°C, while Nuwara Eliya (at 1889m) has a temperate 16°C average. The sea stays at around 27°C all year.

So when visiting in Sri Lanka, it’s highly likely you will get wet at some stage. We recommend touring from February to September, though any time is a great time to go!

Untouched by Tourism

Decades of strife and civil wars have ravaged this beautiful nation. Only recently have they been able to fully open up to the world. HAMA was one of the first there to help.

Iconic Tea Plantations

The British Empire introduced tea production to Ceylon in 1867. They have matured over the last 150 years to become an indelible part of the landscape. HAMA’s cup is never half full.

Rugged Mountains

The mountains of Sri Lanka are amongst the most stunning on Earth. Dense forests, waterfalls, and craggy peaks abound. HAMA delivers you to scenery that will leave you in awe.

Exotic Local Wildlife

The sheer variety of fauna in Sri Lanka is astonishing. Elephants, big cats, primates, bears, exotic birds and more are there to be found. HAMA gives you the chance to get face to face.

Jungle Riding

The remote jungles of Sri Lanka offer a multitude of off-road riding experiences that can delight or challenge anyone. HAMA delights in a good ride and loves a good challenge, do you?

Pristine Beaches

Sri Lanka is justifiably known as the Pearl of the Indian Ocean. Isolated beaches that would delight a postcard printer are waiting for you. HAMA can deliver you to the sand.

Colourful Local Culture

Aside from the select few, the people have historically been quite poor. They have made up for this by finding and creating beauty everywhere. HAMA brings you to this beauty.

Buddhist and Hindu Temples

The rich and varied religious history of this island nation spans millennia. Various dynasties have built temples that are true works of art. HAMA will take you on a journey through the ages.

Negombo is a town of about 121,933, approximately 37 km north of Colombo, in Sri Lanka. It is located at the mouth of the Negombo Lagoon, about 7 km from the Bandaranaike International Airport. Negombo has a small port, and its economy is mainly based on tourism and its centuries-old fishing industry, though it also produces cinnamon, ceramics, and brass ware.

North of the Hill Country, in one of the driest parts of the country, lies the original heart of Sri Lankan civilisation. During the golden age of Sinhalese civilisation, it was called Rajarata – the Land of Kings. For 1,500 years of dynasties, wars, invasions and religious missions to Asia, increasingly ambitious dams and irrigation systems supported two great cities – Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa – and many other magnificent examples of the region’s Buddhist culture. For almost a thousand years the jungle did its best to reclaim them, but major archaeological excavations over the past century have partially restored their glory. Engineers, too, have patched the irrigation system, marvelling at the skill of the original builders.

Kandy is a city in the center of Sri Lanka. It was the last capital of the ancient kings’ era of Sri Lanka. The city lies in the midst of hills in the Kandy plateau, which crosses an area of tropical plantations, mainly tea. Kandy is one of the most scenic cities in Sri Lanka; it is both an administrative and religious city. It is the capital of the Central Province (which encompasses the districts of Kandy, Matale and Nuwara Eliya) and also of Kandy District. Kandy is the home of The Temple of the Tooth Relic (Sri Dalada Maligawa) one of the most venerable places for the Buddhist community of Sri Lanka and all around the world. It was declared a world heritage by the UNESCO in 1988.

One of Sri Lanka’s premier eco-tourism destinations, lies 24km northeast of Tissamaharama and 290km from Colombo on the southeast coast of Sri Lanka, spanning a vast 97,878 hectares over the Southern and Uva Provinces.

The vegetation in the park comprises predominantly of semi-arid thorny scrub, interspersed with pockets of fairly dense secondary forest. Small patches of mangrove vegetation also occur along the coastal lagoons. The park is renowned for the variety of its Wildlife (most notably its many elephants) and its lovely coastline (with associated coral reefs). It also boasts a large number of important cultural ruins, bearing testimony to earlier civilizations and indicating that much of the area used to be populated and well developed.

Sri Lanka Extreme Bike Tours

Sri Lanka is a country that seems to be off the schedule for most motorcycle tour companies, but not Extreme Bike Tours .

They will start operating tours of the temples, jungles, tea plantations and palm-fringed beaches in July and August 2016 riding classic Royal Enfield motorbikes.

Extreme Bike Tours sounds like the riders will be roughing it, but nothing could be further from the truth.

The 13-day tours offer luxury accommodation each night starting in Galle in south-eastern Sri Lanka on July 9 and August 6, 2016.

Sri Lanka Extreme Bike Tours

The personalised tour includes stays each night in deluxe, hand-picked hotels, with the itinerary taking in Sri Lanka’s beautiful Buddhist temples, tea plantations, misty rainforests, tropical beaches, abundant wildlife and ruins of ancient civilisations.

The tour costs A$7071 for riders and A$5886 for pillion passengers including accommodation along the route, all meals on the tour, fuel and motorbike hire. There are no single supplements for solo travellers. Flights to Sri Lanka are extra.

To access the offer, email [email protected] or visit www.extremebiketours.com .

Extreme Bike Tours is based in India and was started by former Englishman and adrenalin junkie, Zander Combe.

“We’re called Extreme Bike Tours because of the locations we go to, not the way we ride or anything else,” he says.

“Anyone who is a confident rider on a licence can come on our tours. It’s about the location rather than riding around trying to kill ourselves.”

Royal Enfield Bullet - himalayan

He has now sold the business to two British colleagues and a Sri Lankan.

I visited Sri Lanka for the first time this year. I’d never consider riding a motorcycle there! There’s a definite food chain on the roads there and bikes aren’t near the top of it. Very dangerous.

I would say that the 10 bikers from HOG Dubai Chapter made the first ever group ride around the Sri Lankan Island in 2013. Expanded to 15 riders in 2014 and again rode with a group of 21bikers from the UAE with the first ever CanAm to ride in Sri Lanka in August 2015. More HD groups are already on the 2016 callender to ride in Sri Lanka.

I've been fortunate enough to travel twice with Koli and Ajith and Ceylon Adventures and they are true professionals. We did a week-long motorcycle tour with Koli and always felt safe; he knows the country like the back of his hand and was a wonderful guide. Most recently we did a day tour by jeep and a morning on motorcycles and again it was a fantastic experience, mainly because of Koli's attention to detail and gentle touch.

We rented 2 Hondas xr230 for 12 days. The bikes were perfect for the sri lankan roads: light and easy to ride! Our trip was beautiful: mountains, cities, beaches... Koli gave us good tips on where to go and he was always available by phone or text. We definitely recommend Koli and his team!

They are a very good tour for renting vehicles. They're very helpful. Worth the price. Thanks again! The tuk tuk that they had rented us had enough space for 3 big trekking bags (more than enough ;) ) they recommend us a nice tour around the island. Very helpful all time.

My friend and I rented 2 Honda scramblers each for our very own motorcycle adventure tour of Sri Lanka. Before arriving, Ajith helped us arrange and prepare all the necessary documents. We rented the scramblers for 5 days. The scramblers were in good condition. But it would have been better if both the scramblers were handed to us with full tank of petrol, rather than one being almost empty and the other half full.

We rode two royal enfield around Srilanka for eight days, jungle, temple, ruins, mountains and tea plantation, beautiful beach. Everyday is enjoyable, people are extremely friendly. We highly recommend Koli and Aji from Ceylon Adventure to everyone who wants to experience Srilanka in a different way. We will be back !

I was recommended Ceylon Adventure Tours from a friend in Dubai who had an excellent experience with the company, and I most certainly had a similar experience. Looking at the other reviews for CAT, it's safe to say these guys make sure your tour is above and beyond expectations.
