Killing Commercial Logo

You're Invited

Sup everybody??? On January 17 in Austin, Texas, at Driftwood Downtown, we are hosting a welcome reception to the One City World Tour brought to you by The Insurance Guys Podcast and the guys over at Glovebox. You don’t want to miss the conference. But I can assure you; you don’t want to miss the banger we’re going to throw in Driftwood downtown.

Listen, this place is just a little bit exclusive. It’s a private club. They’re not used to throwing bangers like we’re going to throw. You can only get in if you’re registered and have a ticket. I also recommend you look up the venue and know where you’re going. You likely want to take an Uber to get there because parking will be a little bit limited.

But once you’re there, we got the mezzanine. We got the rooftop. And if we can get 100 agents to show up, we got the whole thing top to bottom. If I can’t get 100 insurance agents to show up to a welcome reception knowing that their food and drinks are taken care of, I need to figure out what I’m doing in life, people.

But, not to be outdone. If you’re in the first 100 that show up. I’ve got a little tuxedo t-shirt for you! Gotta keep it classy for the One City! You get a Killing Commercial Tux on the front. One City World Tour with Insurance Guys and Glovebox on the back. That thing’s gonna be vintage and something that you can wear for years to come.

Come hang with us. I look forward to seeing every single one of you. If you’ve not bought your tickets to the event, go ahead and get them at http://onecityworldtour.com . But you don’t have to be going to the event to hang with us.

If you’re an agency in Austin and your week is already crammed, and you want to hang out with us, I’m not gonna keep anybody from coming and hanging at Driftwood Downtown.

Come see me on the rooftop!!!

People love our City Tour!

one city world tour austin

We did the Real Austin Tour and had the BEST EVER tour guide, Bobby. He was hilarious and an all-around interesting guy. He gave us tons of information and even bought us ice cream at a food truck park. We did this tour on our first day, and it gave us a little taste of several famous sights, which helped us plan the rest of our trip around the places we wanted to revisit.

My husband and I were in Austin from Virginia for our son’s UT MBA graduation. The 2 hour “Real Austin Tour” was the perfect overview. Our tour guide, Steven, was both informative and entertaining. We road in a comfortable Mercedes van and thoughtfully were offered complimentary bottles of water. At several stops our group hopped out to tour The State Capitol, Graffiti Park, and for a photo opp at a mural. Highly recommend for anyone wanting fun facts on Austin’s history and culture.

Just spent 2 hours on the Real Austin tour with our musician/tour guide, Jason. Jason was fabulous! And the tour took us to several cool places in Austin we didn’t know existed, like the HOPE graffiti park. Jason is passionate about Austin and shared with us tons of interesting info on Austin history, culture, and the music scene. I am a tour junkie, and this was one of the best tours we have ever taken. The tour was well designed and packed everything possible into 2 hours. And, it is evident that these people know how to run a business!

The Real Austin Tour” with Sunny was a great experience for me. Not only was the tour well-planned to include major landmarks and charming Austin spots, but everyone got to get out of the bus to taste, smell, and see these gems. By the end of this tour, I really felt like I knew the highlights of Austin and had gotten a feeling for its funky character. And I could not have asked for a better tour guide than Sunny – he was considerate to all of the passengers, organized, and obviously loves what he does!! Take this tour and request Sunny – you will not be disappointed!

So let me begin by saying that I have lived in Austin for 17+ years and have been only on one of these type of tours, and I know a little about Austin as well. My brother and friend came for a visit and we decided to take the Real Austin tour form this company. They did NOT disappoint. They hit a variety of locations, murals, neighborhoods, and had plenty of knowledge. We even got to stop by for a snack at a local food truck… bonus. I even learned some stuff. If you’re looking for a fun, quick, small, and an overview of the city…this is it. I can’t wait to do another tour from this company.

NASHVILLE, TENN.  –  Morgan Wallen  admittedly treats his tours like an athlete approaching a new season, so when the East Tennessean wrapped his wildly successful 55-city Dangerous Tour   on Oct. 8, no one expected he’d come with a line-up of more shows this soon. Yet, the ACM  Milestone Award  Winner and only country artist nominated for  Pollstar ‘s Major Tour of the Year  award revealed this morning he’s not only expanding the size of the venues he’s playing, he’s traveling around the globe to see his fans in 2023!

Morgan Wallen’s   One Night At A Time World Tour , produced by Live Nation in North America and Frontier Touring for Australia/New Zealand, kicks off overseas  March 15-24  with shows in New Zealand and Australia with  HARDY  before returning stateside on  April 15  at Milwaukee’s American Family Field with HARDY, hitting New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium, Chicago’s Wrigley Field and Boston’s Fenway Park with  Parker McCollum , before wrapping on  Oct. 7  at Tacoma Dome in Washington.  ERNEST  and  Bailey Zimmerman  will support across all dates, U.S. and internationally. Thirty-nine dates in total with 17 stadiums, amphitheaters, and arenas to boot.  Tickets on sale at  MorganWallen.com  beginning Friday, Dec. 9.

Wallen named his tour after one of three new songs dropping tonight at midnight on his  One Thing At A Time – Sampler : “One Thing At A Time”; “Tennessee Fan,” paying homage to Wallen’s East Tennessee upbringing; and “Days That End In Why.” Together, these three songs serve as the first taste of what’s to come from his time in the studio and arrive on the heels of his new single at country radio, “ Thought You Should Know ,” cowritten with  Miranda Lambert  and  Nicolle Galyon , currently sitting Top 20 as his latest No. 1 “You Proof” returns to the top of the charts for a rare sixth, non-consecutive weeks atop the Country Airplay chart.

“Man, what a year 2022 has been with the Dangerous Tour. I had the time of my life, and I cannot begin to express how grateful I am that my fans connected with the  Dangerous  album the way they did,” Wallen shares. “I’ve had so many people ask me if I wanted to take some time off; but the truth is – I have been writing and making so much music in my off-time because I feel as inspired as I ever have. It feels like new songs are pouring out of me, and I love that feeling. We are going to run it back next year with the One Night At A Time World Tour. Bigger venues. New countries. Bigger memories. See y’all there.”

As one of the biggest artists in the world with  Dangerous  continuing to notch historical chart status as  Billboard’s  longest running Top 10 album in history for a solo artist  (eclipsing Adele’s  21  and Bruce Springsteen’s  Born In The USA ), the 2022  American Music Awards ‘  Favorite Male Artist  and  Favorite Country Song  winner adds, “Also, I’m not quite done making this new album, so I’m going to keep making it through the holiday break and early January to chase this inspiration. I promise I won’t wait too long to reveal the album details. To hold you over, I’m dropping three new songs today as a sampler of what I’ve been working on. Can’t wait to take it  one night at a time  in 2023.”

Wallen’s 2022 Dangerous Tour spanned over 50 shows and broke records in 30 venues across the country during its 8-month-long run. Highlights include his historic Globe Life Field show, which became the fastest sellout in the venue’s history and surpassed attendance records previously held by artists such as Elton John and Lady Gaga, and holding fastest historical sellouts at 11 venues, while simultaneously breaking attendance records with stops at XFINITY Theatre, AmericanBank Center and Darien Lake Amphitheater.

As on his Dangerous Tour ,  $3 of every ticket sold for U.S. dates benefits the Morgan Wallen Foundation which funds causes close to his heart and, to-date, has supported organizations such as  Greater Good Music  by donating over 500,000 meals-and-counting, to  Children Are People , the  Salvation Army  and  National Museum of African American Music .

There is no official pre-sale in the U.S. for this tour, so fans are advised to only purchase through verified fans. For more information, visit  www.morganwallen.com . Morgan Wallen Fan Club pre-sale for Australia and New Zealand shows begins on Wednesday, Dec. 7.

Morgan Wallen’s 2023 One Night At A Time World Tour U.S. Dates:

Morgan Wallen 2023 International Tour Dates:

One Thing At A Time – Sampler:

“One Thing At A Time”  – Ashley Gorley / ERNEST / Ryan Vojtesak / Wallen “Tennessee Fan”  – Ashley Gorley / HARDY / Mark Holman / Wallen “Days That End In Why”  – John Byron / Blake Pendergrass / Driver Williams

  • Story of One World

When Hartt Stearns was a student at UCLA, he saw a concert dedicated to the legendary jazz saxophonist, Cannonball Adderley, who had recently passed, performed by an amazing array of some of the best jazz musicians of our time, who had formerly played with him. The following day, many of those musicians gave seminars on their respective instruments. Hartt, being a percussionist himself, went to a seminar that was given by Brazilian percussionist, Mayuto Correa. Stearns was taken by the way Mayuto communicated about things like “making the drum part of your body”, and finding the “zero state”, as opposed to talking about technique.

After the seminar, Hartt asked Mayuto if he could study with him. Mayuto’s Zen way of teaching became a pivotal point in Hartt’s life. He told Hartt that if he wanted to get his music together, he needed to get his life together. He told him that he needed to look deeply into himself, and cut out any things he knew he shouldn’t be doing, since these things would take him out of being in the “zero state”. The zero state being that place that everyone is born with, and allows you to be in the moment, where you can become an instrument for music to come through you. He told Hartt that if he truly disappeared into this zero state while performing, many times the entire audience would disappear into “One” with him.

When Hartt finished studying with Mayuto, he introduced him to the band, Arco Iris. From 1979 to 1992, he was the percussionist for Arco Iris, a band from Argentina that had multiple gold records. Hartt, along with musicians like Alex Acuna (Weather Report), Chester Thompson (Phil Collins), and Chris Rhyne (Santana) played and recorded with them, but along with the band, was part of the largest multi-cultural arts-in-education outreach program of it’s kind, based out of the Los Angeles Music Center.

After he moved to Austin, in 1992 Hartt met Nada Stearns (they didn’t actually become Mr. & Mrs. until 2008 ☺). Nada, born in Miami, became a professional vocalist at the age of 15. She grew up sharing the stage with musicians like Jaco Pastorius, The Four Tops and even was a vocal coach for the Cher band, but had stopped performing live. She was only teaching voice when they met. Hartt got Nada to start performing again when the two of them created a show that took kids on a journey to different countries through music. With voice, percussion and musical instruments, students were able to see how music was a language that has no borders. All shows culminated with a message that “It doesn’t matter what country you come from, what religion you have or what color your skin is, we’re all part of One World”.

These shows became very popular in Austin schools. The Austin-based non-profit La Peña contacted Hartt and Nada, and told them that they felt that the City of Austin would support these shows through the Cultural Affairs Division. La Peña sponsored shows that both Hartt and Nada created. In 1997 Hartt’s program incorporated into a 501c3 nonprofit, as One World.

The property at 7701 Bee Caves Road, which had originally been built as a private residence in 1996, stalled from lack of funding. As a result, the owner/investor at the time was either going to have to sell it, or find a partner. In 1998 Hartt became an equal partner in the property, known as Barton Creek Art Center, and the building was converted into a commercial classification. It was then that Hartt had the idea to present concerts, dance, theatrical and kid’s productions as an expansion of the service provided by One World. One World Theatre, which was green built out of 85% recycled Styrofoam (along with it’s offices which were made of straw bale and Styrofoam), opened in July of 1999. One World, with Hartt, the Executive Director of the non-profit, and Nada Stearns, the Director of Family Programming, ran all arts related programming at the theatre, as the non-profit leased the property from Barton Creek Art Center.

Hartt acquired 100% interest in the property at the end of 2007. Hartt & Soul Productions was established at that time as well, in order to run all non-arts related events at the theatre, and leased the facility to One World as well. Hartt and Nada continue to run the theatre today.

The Urban Living Tour , the ultimate insider's tour, will introduce you to three different Berliners in three different neighborhoods. You'll get to go inside their homes and spend an hour visiting and checking out their decor. The hosts you'll meet will depend on who is in town on the day you're visiting. It could be a set designer in an underground courtyard apartment or a photographer with an uber-luxe pad on a main thoroughfare built in the Stalin era. While you snoop around and see how they live, you'll hear about what drew them to the city and what they love about it.

Details : The 4.5-hour tour includes visits to three private apartments, drinks and sweets, sightseeing between the visits, transport, and a private guide. Prices vary based on how many people are taking the tour; see website for details.

Insider Tip : Keep an open mind and come with questions.

City Tour Led by Homeless Guide, London, England

City Tour Led by Homeless Guide, London, England

See London through the eyes of someone who lives on the city's streets. Unseen Tours hires and professionally trains homeless and formerly homeless people to lead its walking tours of London Bridge, Camden, Shoreditch, and Convent Garden. See the stark contrast between historical landmarks and sites where the guides have slept, hear riveting personal stories, and discover tucked-away places few others ever experience. The tour ends at either a pub or a cafe, so you can carry on with your guide or group in a discussion that ebbs between the politics of street begging and the effects of gentrification on the East End.

Details : The tour runs $9 to $14 per hour and usually lasts about 90 minutes.

Insider Tip : On each tour, the company reserves two free spots for those who are either unable to pay or are accompanying someone as a caregiver. Wondering how much of the ticket sales goes back to the guide? About 80 percent. Unseen Tours was the winner for best tour operator for local experiences in the World Responsible Tourism Awards 2011 .

'Worst' Walking Tour, Porto, Portugal

'Worst' Walking Tour, Porto, Portugal

This tour in Portugal's second-largest city is the antithesis of a tourist trap. Avoiding all of Porto's polished postcard-perfect sites, it takes visitors past decrepit homes and crumbling shops. Started by three out-of-work architects who stuck around after the country was hit hard by the recession, The Worst Tours will show you the not-for-tourists sites and guides will tell stories about the old markets and abandoned buildings, helping you understand what's behind Europe's economic crisis. Learn about Porto's architecture, history, politics, and urbanism from a few people who are "OK with not being popular or cool or the best in anything, least of all touring."

Details : Tours are two to three hours and are free.

Insider Tip : Let your guide know which parts of the city you've already visited and what your interests are, and he or she will create a route that shows you things you haven't seen.

Gnawa Music Tour, Essaouira, Morocco

Gnawa Music Tour, Essaouira, Morocco

New this spring, the Gnawa Music Experience tour gives you a unique encounter with one of Morocco's off-the-charts popular trends: trance-like Gnawa music and its acrobatic dance moves. You'll be introduced to the addictive music's Afro-Moroccan culture and customs in the medina, where musicians will be jamming. Then, you'll step inside hidden domains typically inaccessible to visitors: You'll go into the home of a dancer to see him perform, watch a troupe master play a traditional lute-like instrument in his private quarters, and visit a temple where sacred rituals drive out evil spirits.

Details : The evening tour costs around $100 and lasts two to three hours.

Insider Tip : Both men and women should dress with respect, covering everything from the shoulders to the knees. At the end of the tour, your guide can recommend places to go dancing where you'll hear Gnawa music fused with Western and Latin music.

Hip-Hop Tour, New York, New York

Hip-Hop Tour, New York, New York

With a legendary hip-hop artist as your guide, Hush Tours will give you a truly entertaining experience in the Bronx and Harlem, the birthplace of the culture. Here, people on the street might recognize and give shout-outs to the Hush Tours guides—Grandmaster Caz, Kurtis Blow, and others—as they delve into four aspects of hip-hop culture: DJing, MCing, B-boy and B-girl dancing, and graffiti artistry. You'll see the important landmarks and check out where Biggie, Nas, and Jay-Z grew up on this fun tour.

Details : Tours range from two hours ($32) to four hours ($75).

Insider Tip : Wear comfortable clothes and shoes. At one point on the tour, you'll learn hip-hop moves and try them out on the streets.

Date-Night City Tour with a Photographer, Toronto, Canada

Date-Night City Tour with a Photographer, Toronto, Canada

Nothing against snapping a selfie with your iPhone, but on LiveToronto's Date Night Tour , you'll get enviable pics (without your arm) for posting on Facebook or printing in a photo book. Depending on your interests (sports, architecture, music, etc.), your personal paparazzo will plan a walking route to hit Toronto's key sites and set up photo ops. As you explore downtown's icons and hidden gems, your photographer guide will share interesting details about each landmark while capturing everything from classic poses to silly shots. Choose your own adventure: You can include the Harbourfront, the base of the CN Tower, Osgoode Hall, Roundhouse Park, and others.

Details : The 60-minute private tour is $100 to $200 per couple and includes 50 fully edited digital photos, which will be delivered within 24 hours.

Insider Tip : Don't surprise your significant other with this date-night tour—there are too many things to consider beforehand (including hair, nails, and a second outfit or pair of shoes for another look). The company runs tours for families and corporate groups, too.

Longboarding Tour, Amsterdam, the Netherlands

Longboarding Tour, Amsterdam, the Netherlands

You won't find this longboard tour through Vondelpark in your guidebook or officially operated by any local tour company. But check Vayable.com and there it is: Vondelsurfing , offered by a "semi-professional amateur" longboarder named Milan V. In the new sharing economy , websites like Vayable.com connect you with a vetted local guide. Here, Milan V. puts you on a long skateboard in the middle of Amsterdam's most popular park, hands you a rope, and pulls you behind a fixie bicycle for a couple of hours. It's a chance to see the park like a true hipster Amsterdammer, says Milan V., who has hosted beginners as well as seasoned longboarders.

Details : The two-hour tour is $24 and includes all gear, a drink, and photo/video of your ride.

Insider Tip : Vondelsurfing is fun in pairs of two, so you can switch and watch how the other is doing.

In One Day in Austin

This first day of highlights doesn’t take you very far from the downtown core, but you’ll mostly be on its periphery. The first few stops are within walking distance of each other, but for the others you’ll need wheels—and parking can be a hassle in several of these popular spots. If you’re only in town for 1 day, consider ride-shares, which are not very expensive within these relatively short distances, or take advantage of the B-Cycle bike-sharing program, a great option for those willing to two-wheel it around town for at least part of this itinerary.

1. Paperboy

You can’t say you’ve been to Austin if you haven’t eaten in a food trailer, and Paperboy , just east of I-35 from downtown, specializes in breakfast, from cinnamon toast to a hash of sweet potatoes, pork belly, poached egg, and pecan mole.

Your next stop is only a few blocks to the west, but if you opt to walk, cars will be whizzing overhead on the freeway. If you’re driving, you get 2 hours of free parking in the Texas State Capitol garage (1201 San Jacinto St.), a short walk from the main building.

2. Texas State Capitol ★★★

You might expect the Texas State Capitol to be BIG and you won’t be disappointed by this grand pink-granite structure on 22 acres of immaculately tended grounds; its spire rises 14 feet higher than the U.S. Capitol building in Washington, D.C. To learn all the fascinating details of its history and construction, catch one of the frequent free half-hour tours, or pick up a self-guided tour pamphlet. Keep an eye out for such details as the decorative door hinges, so gorgeous that they kept getting stolen; now you can buy replicas in the excellent Texas Capitol Gift Shop.

3. Blanton Museum of Art ★★★

Less than a 15-minute walk north of the Capitol, the University of Texas’s Blanton Museum of Art is a must-visit for many reasons—its stunning modern architecture, its wide-ranging and in-depth holdings (everything from Dutch Renaissance masters to contemporary Latin American abstractionists), and Ellsworth Kelly’s “Austin,” the first and only building by the late abstract artist. A bonus: It’s a relatively small museum, so you should be able to get a good taste in an hour or so.

4. West 6th Street and North Lamar Boulevard

About a 10-minute drive south from the UT campus, this intersection on the west side of downtown spotlights three Austin-sprung retailers who embody the city’s spirit: BookPeople, one of the top indie bookstores in the country; Waterloo Records, a magnet for every type of music lover; and the 80,000-square-foot Whole Foods, on the site of the original upscale organic grocer (and next door to its world headquarters), which has everything you might want to consume, fresh or packaged, flesh or fowl, cooked or raw.

5. Zilker Metropolitan Park

Continue south on Lamar Boulevard across Lady Bird Lake to the liveliest green space in town, spread over 347 acres. A few top options at Zilker Park: Join the throngs splashing around the spring-fed Barton Springs Poo l;  stroll through the gracious Zilker Botanical Garden ; or visit the Umlauf Sculpture Garden & Museum , the home, studios, and garden of artist Charles Umlauf. If you’re up for some exercise, rent a kayak or canoe to take on Lady Bird Lake; the vistas from the water can’t be beat.

6. Bat Flight

Less than 10 minutes east from the park, you’ll reach the Austin-American Statesman Bat Observation Center , on the southeast side of the Congress Avenue Bridge. From late March through early November, the largest urban bat colony in North America—that’s some 1.5 million Mexican free-tailed bats—swarm out from under Congress Avenue Bridge at around dusk to go on an insect hunt.

7. South Congress Avenue

Half a mile south of the Congress Avenue Bridge, the shops, restaurants, and nightspots of trendy SoCo offer lots of shopping options and the city’s best concentration of good restaurants.

8. Live Music

South Austin—not only South Congress Avenue but also South Lamar and South First avenues, nearby—has several great live music venues; check out who’s playing at the Broken Spoke , the Continental Club , or the Saxon Pub .
