Heaton and Abbott have already previewed the forthcoming ‘N.K-Pop’ with the singles ‘Still’ and ‘Too Much For One (Not Enough For Two)’ .
With the former song, the pair aimed to “raise awareness for folk who have lost a child, whether by miscarriage, stillbirth or in infancy”.
The full tracklist for ‘N.K-Pop’ is as follows:
01. ‘The Good Times’ 02. ‘Too Much For One (Not Enough For Two)’ 03. ‘Who Built The Pyramids’ 04. ‘I Drove Her Away With My Tears’ 05. ‘When The World Would Actually Listen’ 06. ‘Still’ 07. ‘I Ain’t Going Nowhere This Year’ 08. ‘Sunny Side Up’ 09. ‘Baby It’s Cold Inside’ 10. ‘New Fella’ 11. ‘My Mother’s Womb’ 12. ‘His Master’s Game’ Earlier this year Heaton spoke to NME about how he and Abbott had played a number of free concerts for NHS staff as a thank you for their efforts throughout the COVID pandemic.
He also discussed giving away free pints at 60 UK pubs to mark his 60th birthday , and why he thinks the Royal Family should be privatised.

DECEMBER 1 BRIDLINGTON Spa 2 GLASGOW OVO Hydro 3 STOCKTON Globe 5 PORTSMOUTH Guildhall 6 NOTTINGHAM Motorpoint Arena 8 BIRMINGHAM Resorts World Arena 9 SHEFFIELD Utilita Arena 10 MANCHESTER AO Arena 17 LONDON The O2 Paul Heaton & Jacqui Abbott’s new album ‘N.K-Pop’ is released on 7 th October. They have already made two songs available from the album – the poignant ballad ‘Still’, which was described as ‘ beautifully heartbreaking’ by Dawn French, and the gospel pop song ‘Too Much For One (Not Enough For Two). Paul & Jacqui’s previous album ‘Manchester Calling’ went straight to No 1 on its release in March ’20.
Paul Heaton ’s songwriting genius was recognised at the prestigious Ivor Awards 2022 where noted author/radio DJ Stuart Maconie presented him with a long overdue gong for ‘Outstanding Song Collection’. Heaton is one of the UK’s most successful songwriters with some 15 million album sales under his belt. He first came to prominence in the early 80s as front man of The Housemartins (the same group that gave us Norman ‘Fatboy Slim’ Cook). The Housemartins released two albums ‘London 0 Hull 4’ (’86) and ‘The People Who Grinned Themselves To Death’ (’87). In ’88 Heaton formed The Beautiful South, who released 10 hugely successful albums – ‘Welcome To The Beautiful South’ (’89), Choke (’90), ‘0898 Beautiful South’ (’92), ‘Miaow’ (’94), ‘Blue Is The Colour’ (’96), ‘Quench’ (’98), ‘Painting It Red’ (2000), ‘Gaze’ (’03), ‘Golddiggas, Headnodders & Pholk Songs’ (’04) and ‘Superbi’ (’06). In 2001 Heaton took a break from The Beautiful South and released his first solo album ‘Fat Chance’. The Beautiful South called it a day in 2007 citing ‘musical similarities’. Jacqui Abbott was lead vocalist in The Beautiful South from ’94 to 2000 and she sang many of their signature hits including ‘Rotterdam’, ‘Perfect 10’, ‘Don’t Marry Her’ and ‘Dream A Little Dream’. Paul Heaton went on to release two further solo albums: ‘The Cross-Eyed Rambler’ (’08) and ‘Acid Country’ (’10). In 2011 Heaton wrote a musical called ‘The 8 th ’ based on the Seven Deadly Sins and asked Jacqui to sing one of the parts. They have since released four acclaimed albums as a duo: ‘What Have We Become’ (’14), ‘Wisdom, Laughter and Lines’ (’15), ‘Crooked Calypso’ (’17) and ‘Manchester Calling’ (’20). In 2019 Paul released a career spanning compilation of his biggest hits entitled ‘The Last King Of Pop’.
2022 saw Heaton reach a significant birthday, which he celebrated in typically idiosyncratic style by putting £1,000 behind the bar of 60 carefully chosen pubs across the UK and Ireland so that fans could have a drink on him. PHOTOS OF PAUL HEATON & JACQUI ABBOTT HERE: https://bit.ly/3JQxrR1

Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbott announce huge winter UK tour
Billy bragg will support the former beautiful south duo.
By Joe Goggins
Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbott have announced plans for a winter UK tour, with Billy Bragg joining them in support.
The pair, formerly of The Beautiful South, will take their old band’s back catalogue, plus their own collaborative one, to 12 venues across the country in November and December. The duo will take in shows in Swansea, Llandudno, Blackpool, Bridlington, Glasgow, Stockton, Portsmouth, Nottingham, Birmingham, Sheffield and Manchester, before wrapping up with a massive show in the capital at the O2 Arena. The full dates and details are below.
Paul & Jacqui UK tour announced with special guest @BillyBragg including dates at Manchester @AOArena & London @TheO2 . All tickets £30! Qualify for presale access by pre-ordering the new album at https://t.co/iXyR5p7hCq by 4pm Monday. Support will come from politically-charged stalwart Billy Bragg , who joins the duo on all 12 dates. Whilst the Bard of Barking remains out on the road in support of last October’s tenth solo studio album, The Million Things That Never Happened , Heaton and Abbott will be drawing from N.K-Pop , their fifth full-length collaborative effort, which is due for release on October 7. They’ll doubtless also air tracks from 2020’s Manchester Calling , with the COVID-19 pandemic having prevented them from taking that full-length on tour in earnest. It went to number one on the UK album chart just weeks before the first lockdown.
Tickets are on sale on September 1 at 9:30am. All tickets have a face value of £30, a modest sum in the current arena climate but one in line with the two-piece’s politics. Back in May, Heaton turned 60, and with work on N.K-Pop preventing him from his traditional birthday celebration of riding a bike cross-country in order to visit his favourite pubs, he instead drew up a list of 60 choice hostelries and put cash behind the bar for locals to enjoy a free pint on him.

Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbott have scored their second UK No.1 album as a duo with their fifth studio set N.K-Pop . It entered the Official Albums Chart at the top just 19 months after its predecessor, Manchester Calling , achieved the same feat.
The former members of the Beautiful South also have three 1990s UK bestsellers to their name as members of that group, with the 1994 compilation Carry On Up The Charts , 1996’s Blue Is The Colour and the 1998 release Quench .
Coming over 36 years after my first ever release, it’s an unbelievable privilege to reach Number 1 again,” Heaton tells Officialcharts.com. “I count this as yet another memento of my beautiful relationship with this country and its music fans.”
Adds Abbott: “I’m delighted and very proud to see the album reach the top of the Official Chart. I hope you’ve all enjoyed listening to it and I can’t wait to see you all on our tour next month!”
Ahead of the album, Heaton and Abbott released the song “Still” in July, accompanied by a lyric video. The song saw the duo teaming up with Sands UK to raise awareness for those who have lost a child, whether via a miscarriage, stillbirth or in infancy. They followed it in August with “Too Much For One (Not Enough For Two),” also featured on the new album.
The pair start an extensive arena tour on November 26 in Swansea with special guest Billy Bragg. That leg of their itinerary concludes with a December 17 date at London’s O2 Arena, then they resume with shows in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland from February 17.
The new album chart also included a No.2 debut for Leicester alt-pop outfit easy life with MAYBE IN ANOTHER LIFE… This matches the achievement of their 2021 release life’s a beach , before which the group featuring Murray Matravers, Oliver Cassidy, Sam Hewitt, Lewis Berry and Jordan Birtles reached No.7 with the 2020 mixtape Junk Food . The new album also tops the Official Vinyl Albums Chart.

England vs France World Cup game will be screened at massive Manchester gigs this weekend
Artists have been praised for 'putting the fans first'.
England’s next World Cup match will take place this Saturday – but clashes with some huge gigs taking place in Manchester.
Thankfully, fans with tickets for either Blossoms or Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbott will now be able to watch the game in a massive setting.
Arrangements have been made to show the quarter final game at the AO Arena and at the O2 Apollo – and Paul Heaton’s even gone a step further for fans who don’t actually like football.
He’s said that the group have arranged to have some live entertainment in the arena concourse, and are hoping to serve free mulled wine to those who don’t want to watch England vs France.
Kick off is around 7pm on Saturday, leaving many fans facing missing the start of the gigs to go and watch the action in nearby pubs and bars.
So Paul announced earlier this week that they were ‘working on plans’ to show the match ahead of their arena show.
And it’s full steam ahead, with a statement confirming a new running order for Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbott at the AO Arena.
He wrote in a statement: “Following some lengthy thought and discussion, we have decided that we will now be showing the England v France match on the screens at AO Arena Manchester on Saturday evening.
“The venue have kindly agreed to open doors from 5pm so that you can all get in on time to see the fantastic Billy Bragg who has also shown great sportsmanship by agreeing to take to the stage at the earlier time of 6:15pm. This means the match can then be shown on the screens from 7pm.
“We are mindful that there will be people that won’t be keen on watching the match (we did, unsuccessfully, look at alternative entertainment within the arena itself) and also worried about transport home, but we assure you that Paul & Jacqui will still take to the stage by 9pm, meaning the show will finish around 10:40/45pm.
Following some lengthy thought and discussion, we have decided that we will now be showing the England v France match on the screens at the @AOArena Manchester on Saturday evening. For full information please read the attached statement… pic.twitter.com/rg6T00hCF5 — Paul Heaton (@PaulHeatonSolo) December 7, 2022
“This does mean we won’t be showing any extra time if that occurs, but if it does Paul and Jacqui will be very keen to keep you updated from the stage. With the right result this could be a great night!
“Times for the evening are as follows: 5pm Doors open, 6:15pm Billy Bragg, 7pm England v France game on the Arena screens, 9pm Paul Heaton & Jacqui Abbott.”
Blossoms have made similar moves, and will be showing England vs France over at the O2 Apollo.
- The best places to watch the World Cup in Manchester
- Watch the moment Blossoms surprise fans with intimate Night & Day gig

An email circulated to ticket-holders said: “The England v France FIFA World Cup quarter final match will be shown live on the big screen prior to Blossoms’ performance at O2 Apollo Manchester on Saturday 10th December.
“Doors: 17:00. Brooke Combe: 18:10. England v France: 19:00 kick off Blossoms: 21:15*
“*In the event of extra time/penalties, times will be adjusted accordingly.”
One person tweeted Paul Heaton to say: “I’m unfortunately not going but I think what you have done is brilliant – ensuring that given the occasion people can still watch the match and watch you at the agreed time as well. As usual, you put the fans first.”

Friday night’s gig at New Century Hall was one of those where you’re so stunned by the show that you’re left wishing the act in front of you was Manc so you could claim them as you’re own – but sadly Novo Amor is a Welshman and we had to give him back.
The stage name for the highly impressive multi-instrumentalist and producer, Ali John Meredith-Lacey, in truth seeing him for the first time here in Manchester proved that the Novo Amor really is the sum of many talented parts.
Much like Bon Iver in that sense and in style, sound and approach to making music, for without Justin Vernon and co. there would be no Novo, one of our first worries was that he would be unable to carry over the level of production and sound design heard on the albums to the stage performance.
That’s where his full band came in, who ensured not only that the whole thing sounded virtually studio-perfect but took a step beyond what we ever thought we’d get to hear at a Novo Amor gig. And it all started with Ed Tullet performing under his own stage name Lowswimer for the opening act.
Anyone who listens to Novo will likely be aware of the little sub-group of artists that all swim in the same circle, from Ali himself to the likes Gia Margaret, Sean Carey (part of Bon Iver) and Yvette Young, to Hailaker – Tullet being one-half opposite Jemima Coulter – as well as Lowswimmer and several others.
He might have only played a handful of songs with only a guitar, including a couple of beautiful Hailaker tracks, but it was more than enough to leave an impression of the very sincere artist who clearly has a massive influence on all of those around him.
Explaining that this would be his second to last show perform with Novo Amor due to health issues and the general toll of touring, having helped write, record, produce and play the bulk of music ever put out under that name since day dot, it was a fittingly sombre and intimate warm-up.
However, even in delivering the more stripped-back set we were already half expecting from the headliner, we almost managed to get both sides of this little mini-music community: the quieter acoustic stuff where big vocals moments are left to shine, and they did, as well as the real deal.
When Ali and the rest of his band finally walked out on stage, with Ed himself receding back into what looked to be the more comfortable position just outside of the spotlight, it suddenly dawned on us that it wouldn’t just be a few folky guitars and some nice piano playing.
After the Lowswimmer’s ironically low-lit stage had somehow managed to hide a quietly better-budget backdrop, the stage suddenly began to light up as Novo Amor wandered on to pick up their instruments and play and from here on out we were just as captivated by the lights and effects as we were the music.
Be it thin but sharp white lines tracing the borders of light boxes like a weird game of snake; solid blocks of electric blues, warm yellows and moody reds appearing on perfectly-timed musical cues or dots delicately twinkling into a slow-moving constellation, each song felt like an experience.
Not sure we’ll ever get over seeing this track being introduced in such a stunning way and in a venue as eye-catching as New Century :
Similar to Ed when he was busy tuning his guitar, Ali let on that his talent lies in bringing these intricately built-up tracks to life not only in record form but in translating them for the live shows too, choosing to ask ChatGPT for some ‘on-stage banter in the style of Novo Amor’ to fill the gaps.
Truthfully, as much as both parties said they were ‘not good at this kind of stuff’, he did a good job at handling the short lulls between songs by letting people ask questions, daft or not, as well as making sure water got to those feeling faint in the hot room. Everyone was fine, don’t worry.
In fact, when one girl seemingly passed out nearer to the front of the crowd as he came towards the end of fan favourite Halloween (you have no idea how gorgeous that song sounds with a full room of people singing it back, by the way), he still managed to check on her whilst quietly playing the outro. A total pro.
Those were the three key letters here in every sense the more we think about it; be it the effortless professionalism in recreating what you hear in your headphones down to the tee and then some live, or the production levels and simple but striking set design behind them, it was verging on surreal.
- Manc institutions Matt and Phred’s and Jimmy’s to join forces for new live gig series
Another wave of acts has been added to the Green Island Festival 2024 lineup this summer
- The timeline of Night & Day Cafe’s noise row – including a surprise offer from Matty Healy
We might not have been anticipating such a put-together set and overall level of production both in terms of sound and the often mesmerising visuals but we don’t know why, because we absolutely should’ve.
This is what you get when you put a group of extremely talented musicians and multi-instrumentalists together in one place. They might make highly complex, heavily layered and often delicate sounds with electronics and technology playing a big role, but they also know how to ramp it up for an audience.
All we can pray is that the next time Novo is back in Manchester he brings at least one half of Hailaker along again and maybe a surprise showing from another corner of this collective.
A special shout-out has to go to Ed as well; we have no shame in admitting that watching Ali looking on at his long-term creative partner and mate with a smile as he signed off his time with the live band by belting out the final tune had us welling up.

Two much-loved institutions in this city’s legendary music scene and Manchester’s nightlife culture as a whole are set to collide next month for a brand new live event series, throwing a big old party and supporting the industry in the process – who’s ready for Matt and Phred’s x Jimmy’s?
That’s right, two of the very best venues not only for live music but for booze and a bite to eat have recently announced a new collaboration which will see both Manchester city centre spots doing their bit to support local independent business as well as up-and-coming artists.
With the inaugural event in the new series set to take place at the popular jazz bar, gig venue and pizza spot Matt and Phred’s , the team over at Jimmy’s will be lending a hand to put on a great night of live music this May.
As two of the veritable tastemakers when it comes to the top tunes coming out of 0161, we can’t think of many better places to champion the Manchester music and hospitality crossover than these two.
View this post on Instagram A post shared by Jimmy's (@jimmys)
Scheduled for 10 May, the Jimmy’s crew are set to work alongside Matt and Phred’s to deliver a mint night of music and Manc nightlife at its finest.
There’s always been a bit of debate as to when the former first opened (most have settled on 1998), but they pride themselves on being “the only true dedicated jazz venue in the North West”, with live performances pretty much every night for the week.
As for Jimmy’s, while they might have had to say goodbye to their original site on the edge of the Northern Quarter and their Liverpool location late last year too, they’ve done a good job of attracting new crowds at their current home on Cutting Room Square in Ancoats .
Hosting rising stars Denver County Council , who recently joined adopted Mancs The Blinders on their UK tour along with Wigan indie four-piece, The Stanleys, we can only hope this will be just the first in a long line of collabs between various local acts and venues.

- Another wave of acts has been to the Green Island Festival 2024 lineup this summer
- The timeline of Night & Day Cafe’s noise row – including a surprise cash offer from Matty Healy
- Liam Gallagher says his son Gene’s band will be opening for him on Definitely Maybe tour
Not only are Denver County Council being tipped for big things, having recently got some airplay on the likes of XS Manchester, but the entire ethos of this new live series is something we can all get behind.
It might start with Jimmy’s x Matt and Phred’s, but backing nightlife and other independent businesses through spotlighting new artists has always been part of the very fabric of this city and the region as a whole, so we’re sure it won’t be long before more names get involved on both sides of the stage.
With tickets setting you back just a tenner, you’d be a muppet not to book this one in for a fun little Friday this April. You can grab yours HERE .
See you there.

Enjoy afternoon tea in London
Sample over 300-years of history in the simplicity of homemade scones with whipped cream and jam. This deliciously British treat is best enjoyed in the afternoon, complete with a hot cup of Earl Grey, cucumber sandwiches and a tower of sugary delights.
Explore ancient Athens
You don't need to be a historian to appreciate the significance of Athens. Your love affair with the city might begin with goddess Athena’s Parthenon temple and the ruins of Acropolis, but it’s likely to end in a quaint alleyway getting a glimpse at daily life in this ancient capital. The story of Athens continues to unfold.
Catch a flamenco show in Spain
Discover the soul-stirring emotion of a Flamenco show in Spain. This expressive art-form has an intangible cultural heritage recognised by UNESCO, merging song, dance and musical instruments into a performance that has to be experienced at least once. Finish with dinner of paella or tapas to round off your perfect evening.
View the Northern Lights in Iceland
Mother Nature’s wonders come to life with the Aurora Borealis or ‘Northern Lights’. In the frosty landscapes of Iceland, this light display offers viewers a genuine pinch-me moment as vivid colours dance across the night sky.
Spend a night at the opera in Vienna
Hear the talents of traditional opera with the ghosts of Mozart and Strauss in your presence. Though there are more than few places to catch the opera in Vienna, none can compare to the State Opera House (Staatsoper).
Our top 5 things to do in Europe & Britain
There are endless pinch-me moments to be found across the many countries that make up the continent of Europe. But where to even begin? Perhaps a Flamenco show in Spain, afternoon tea in London or a Northern Lights viewing in frosty Iceland? Here are some of the highlights of our Europe and Britain trips that you're sure to love.
Paris, France
The world’s largest gallery and the home of Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa, the Louvre is without rival in the art world and is a must see when in Paris. Allow an entire day to explore its eight departments, not missing the Egyptian antiquities, Islamic art and various halls of sculptures. End your day with sunset by the Louvre Pyramid.
London, England
The British Museum
With some eight million works within its permanent collection, The British Museum is an illustrious European landmark. Admire objects brought back from the voyages of Captain James Cook and walk in the controversial presence of the Parthenon Marbles.
Florence, Italy
Uffizi Gallery
The Tuscan capital is home to Uffizi Gallery, where the brushworks of art’s true masters can be found. Names like Raffaello, Leonardo, and Michelangelo fill Uffizi’s grand pink walls, whilst internal courtyards leading to the Arno River reveal the building’s architectural brilliance.
Best museums in Europe & Britain
When traveling Europe with Trafalgar, museum hopping is one of the best ways to understand the culture and history of the places you visit. You’ll find yourself critiquing ancient art and staring in awe at some of the world’s most prominent works. Here are some of our favorites.
Paella Valenciana
Saffron, snails, butterbeans and bomba rice are just some of the ingredients you might find in traditional Spanish paella. Despite originating from the coastal town of Valencia, Paella Valenciana is a variety without seafood. You'll love sitting back to enjoy a steaming plate over the sounds of Spanish jazz in a lively alfresco restaurant.
Beef Stroganoff
Now a staple dish in many parts of the world, beef stroganoff is best enjoyed in its birthplace in Russia with a vodka in hand. This simple dish of beef strips sauteed in a sour cream sauce offers a heart-warming taste of this country’s culinary heritage.
Bouillabaisse
The Mediterranean city of Marseille is where a French culinary icon can be found and devoured. The fragrant stew of bouillabaisse, commonly served with crusty white bread, boils up the finest local seafood and seasonal vegetables with the flavors of fennel, saffron and cayenne pepper.
Best food in Europe & Britain
Our trips to Europe gravitate around indulgent local mealtimes. With new cuisines and cooking methodologies found at every turn, this continent is simply delicious.
What to pack for a tour in Europe
With such a large expanse of space to explore, on some days, long journeys are unavoidable. The scenery will provide plenty of visual entertainment, while headphones can be used to listen to some local music or enjoy podcasts about European history, culture and politics when you're not enjoying the storytelling from your Travel Director.
A good book
Exploring Europe is best done at a relaxed pace with ample opportunity to absorb your surroundings. Dedicate a few days to sitting in a park or a cafe, alternating between reading and watching the world go by.
Versatile shoes
Within the space of one outing you may experience all kinds of terrain when in Europe. Pack shoes that can see you walking from an elegant restaurant to a cobbled footpath, with a stroll along the soft grass of a park in between.
A blank journal
With the wealth of inspiration tucked into every corner of Europe, you may find yourself compelled to write down notes or memories. At the very least to share recommendations with friends when you return home.
All climate clothing
No matter the time of year you travel, Europe can deliver a myriad of temperatures. From frosty cities of Scandinavia to the temperate hills of Portugal, layered clothing best suits the varying micro-climates across this continent.

The sprawling, mind-boggling metropolis of Russian Moscow has long been one of the theatrical stages on which the great dramas of Europe and Asia have been played out in grand style. Burned by Napoleon in 1812, immortalised by Tolstoy, utilised by the Bolsheviks and championed as a bastion of heroic defiance by the post-war communists, it’s almost hard to believe just how defining the historical events that found their home on Moscow’s streets have been. Moscow tour guides will easily be able to mark the major must-see landmarks on the map, from the onion-domed orthodox Saint Basil's Cathedral, to the political powerhouse of Red Square just next door, while others will be quick to recommend a ride on Moscow’s famous subterranean metro system, or a visit to the UNESCO-attested Novodevichy Convent on the city’s southern side. But Moscow is a city also in the throes of a cultural wrangling between the old and the new. Creative energies abound here: Boho bars and pumping super clubs now occupy the iconic mega structures of the old USSR; high-fashion outlets, trendy shopping malls and luxurious residential districts stand as testimony to a city that’s now the undisputed playground of the world’s super-rich, while sprawling modern art museums dominate the cultural offering of the downtown districts north of the Moskva River.
