Your experienced guide will pick you up in Reykjavík and, when everyone is comfortably seated in your private vehicle, your adventure will begin! After leaving the city limits, your local guide will drive you through Hellisheiði, a lava plateau, while following Route 1. This will take us to the Golden Circle, the sightseeing route that has become a global phenomenon.
The first visit of the day is at a site that has great historic and geographic significance. Þingvellir National Park is the place where the Eurasian and North-American tectonic plates join, forming a continental rift valley that is speckled with impressive cracks and fissures. This site was also the location of Althingi, the first parliament of Iceland.
While strolling along Almannagjá Gorge, marveling at the beautiful volcanic scenery around you, you’ll literally be in the middle of two worlds. In the settlement era, this valley was where the chieftains decided amongst themselves the laws that their people would follow and also settled the biggest family feuds that the Viking Age had to offer.
After we leave Thingvellir behind, our next destination will be Haukadalur. This geothermal valley is the home of the geyser which all others of its kind are named after. The Great Geysir does not erupt as often now but its neighbor Strokkur is exceptionally active, shooting boiling water high into the sky every 10 minutes. The surrounding mud pools, hot vents, and fumaroles are sure to pique both your interest and your appetite. We’ll stop for a snack before getting back in the vehicle to visit the jewel the Golden Circle route was named after.
Gullfoss, also known as the Golden Falls, is an impressive two-tiered waterfall. The power of the water falling over this cascade into the canyon below is truly astounding. The viewing platform is perfect for seeing this spectacle up close and personal, to get a true sense of its unharnessed strength.
If the weather permits, we’ll leave the beaten path and take our SuperJeeps into the rough. This off-road adventure will take us straight into the Highlands. Here we’ll visit the area around Langjökull, which in Icelandic means the “long glacier”. At 953 km2 (592 sq. mi.), this is the second-largest glacier in Iceland. The view from the vehicle of the wild terrain will delight you while the driver stops from time to time at fantastic sights.
Once we have returned to the road, we’ll visit either Faxi, a small, beautiful waterfall, or Kerið, a 3000-year-old crater lake located in the middle of a volcano (admission not included). After that, our adventure will have ended and it’ll be time to return to Reykjavik.

The Golden Circle tour is by far the most popular tour in Iceland and a must do if you haven´t done it before.
The first stop is Thingvellir National Park , a location very dear to Icelanders due to the contribution it’s given to our history. It’s also a tremendously important place, geologically speaking, since here it’s possible to see the tectonic plates of two continents, splitting apart. And then, we return to Reykjavik and drop you off at your hotel, hoping you’ve enjoyed private tour just like kids :). It is located around 45 min a long way from the capital city, and this is the essential stop on the Golden Circle Tour Iceland.
Next we visit the mighty Gullfoss Falls . Gullfoss (Golden Waterfall) is a famous waterfall in Iceland offering a marvellous perspective of the beauty and excellence of our nature. Gullfoss is a must-visit part of the Golden Circle Tour Iceland. It is situated in South Iceland on the Hvítá (White) waterway. When you will get near to this waterfall, you will probably feel extremely little. The proportion of water slipping through the stones is astounding! The best thing about this gorgeous fall is that you can see it is overflowing from the top and get a fascinating view. This spot is spectacular, it will definitely make a place in your heart forever.
Next will visit the Geyser Strokkur , which erupts every 5-10 minutes. Have you at any point seen hot spring water spouting out of the earth and rose to a few meters high in the sky? Don’t miss the chance of taking a look at this present nature’s excellent phenomenon in your Golden Circle Tour Iceland.
Then as for other stops we call them secret stops, dependent on the time that we got and the time you have spent on each location, we will never rush you. Some times we visit the black sandy beach around a river delta. Then often we go to see the famous Crater Kerið (a small entrance fee applies), then Waterfall Faxi . Note that to visit Kerið or Faxi requires small visit fee from the land owners.
Contact us by email at [email protected] if you can’t find availability for your traveling date or if you want to discuss adjust the itinerary.
Would you like to see the off-road version? This is our Golden Circle Tour Iceland – super jeep tour .
Would you like to make this tour a 2 or 3-day multi day private tour then check out our Mission Blue Ice 3 day tour .
There will be a number of secret stops as well, but we can’t tell you about it. “Only Guide knows” …
- Food We will stop for refreshments on the way and for lunch
- Optional activity: Snowmobile 3-4 hours – 29,900 ISK for double rider / Child 19.900 ISK (0-11 Yrs) Snowmobile 3-4 hours – 38,900 ISK for solo rider Tour in a Super Bus transit from Gullfoss Café

Thingvellir national park.
Thingvellir National Park is your first stop after leaving Reykjavik. Massive fissures in the Earth’s surface can be seen as you look across this amazing terrain. Thingvellir National Park is UNESCO’s World Heritage site with a lot of significance in terms of historical importance. Guess what, this site has the world’s oldest existing parliament. There are crystal-clear lakes and volcanic terrains to enjoy here.
Geysir Geothermal Area
Your next adventure will take you to Geysir, which is located in the Haukadalur valley geothermal area. The Icelandic term geysir means “gush,” and this gushing hot spring is the source of gushers all around the world. Geysir Geothermal Area is a treat for those who always dreamed of witnessing a live hot spring. Located in the Haukadalur Valley, this spot is the oldest known geyser in the world.
Gullfoss Waterfall
Gullfoss is the next location on the Private Golden Circle tour. Gullfoss (the “Gold Falls”), one of Iceland’s most famous waterfalls, is supplied by millions of gallons of frozen meltwater from Langjokull, Iceland’s second-largest glacier. Gullfoss Waterfall originates from Langjökull, which is Iceland’s second-largest glacier. There are multiple viewpoints to enjoy the view of this elegant waterfall. What else could travelers ask for in their tour?
Seljalandsfoss
Seljalandsfoss, Iceland, is our next destination. This spectacular waterfall, which is 66 metres high and allows you to walk around it, is a sight to behold. But be careful: you can end yourself drenched. On a clear day, the Westman Islands or Vestmannaeyjar can be seen from here.
Skógafoss Waterfall
Skógafoss Waterfall is our next stop. Observe the massive amounts of water cascading from this waterfall! Skógafoss Waterfall has a width of 25 meters and a height of 60 meters. Enjoy the sound of water cascading down a cliff and, if you’re lucky, rainbows generated by the spray of this natural wonder.
Black sand beach
The black sand beach is our next destination. You may encounter the raw and enticing energy of the North Atlantic and its masterfully sculpted basalt column cliffs in Reynisfjara, or Black Sand Beach. The site is both magnificent and deadly, and it deserves to be handled with a healthy sense of wonder and reverence.
Vik village
Our next stop is Vik, which, despite its small population of around 320 people, has a lot to offer. You can either eat your lunch in one of the restaurants or walk down to the beach to see the famous Reynisdrangar.

Reset password, sea kayaking, one of the most exhilarating ways to experience antarctica, the arctic and beyond..
Sea kayaking holidays in the humbling wilderness of Antarctica , the Arctic , and some of the world’s most biodiverse regions, are guaranteed to stir your soul. Paddle between brash ice and icebergs of all shapes and sizes, absorbing the majestic scenery as it unfolds before you.
In Antarctica, keep your camera on-hand for unforgettable encounters with penguins, seals and whales, and occasionally leopard seals or orcas. In the Arctic, prepare to paddle under nesting bird colonies, past massive glaciers and around large iceberg.
Led by experienced guides , you and your small group of like-minded adventurers will paddle between ice floes, brash ice and icebergs of all shapes and sizes. Paddling is one of the best ways to access and intimately explore the beautiful coastlines we visit and therefore make the most of your time in the wild and remote destinations we visit .
‘Getting out amongst it’ is our philosophy, and that is exactly what we do. Weather permitting, the sea kayaking activity is normally available anytime the other expeditioners go out. Rather than travelling large distances, our aim is to ensure you see as much as possible. We paddle between 5 to 15 kilometres (2 to 4 hours) per outing, often taking a snack and a flask of hot chocolate to enjoy on our excursion.
Each small group of kayakers (up to 10 per guide) will have their own intimate exploration of the small hidden bays and coasts that are inaccessible to Zodiacs. Of course, we also make time for your own shore excursions and wildlife encounters.
The elements play an important role in our sea kayaking program. It is important that you have an adventurous attitude and understand that the weather can impact our kayaking time.
For all of our trips, you must be active in the outdoors and have an adventurous spirit. The level of experience differs slightly depending on the region you are visiting.
For most temperate and polar you should be an intermediate paddler. In South Georgia however, conditions can be more varied and you require solid paddling experience in ocean swell and wind.
For our tropical trips some prior paddling experience is needed. We may encounter wind on these trips, however the water is fairly protected.
You do not need to be an expert or know how to roll. However, you must be able to swim and you should have experience in a wet exit and assisted re-entry. You should also be proficient at putting on a spray skirt by yourself and be comfortable paddling on seas with up to half a metre swell. It is also important that you gain some practice getting into a kayak from a pier, wharf, or deep shoreline where you can’t step into the kayak from standing position. You can easily practice all of this at home, plus paddling in a variety of weather conditions, before your trip.
What about beginners up to the challenge?
Our guides do not offer instructional classes for beginners. Therefore, the sea kayaking option is unsuitable for complete novices. However, there is often ample time to gain the required experience before you depart. We may be able to recommend a reputable sea kayak operator in your area for some tuition prior to the trip.
Your guide will assess your ability on the initial paddle, and if you have insufficient experience, he or she reserves the right to restrict your participation in rougher conditions.
You should be fit enough to paddle for up to three hours and climb between moving Zodiacs on the water. Regular exercise is recommended, because the fitter you are the more you will enjoy the experience. The more paddles you can do before the trip, the better. We recommend at least three outings prior to your voyage.
Polar regions
During summer the air temperature in the Antarctic Peninsula, Greenland and Spitsbergen are generally above freezing but can range from -4°C to +5°C / 24.8°F to 41°F. The water temperature in the polar regions is close to freezing and winds sweep off the glaciers, making paddling a chilling experience. In South Georgia, there are stronger winds and swells than in Antarctica. Scotland, Iceland, Norwegian coasts are warmer with water temperatures of around 12 °C/ 53.6°F.
Temperate regions
The northern waters are warmer than the polar regions but water temperatures of around 12 °C/ 53.6°F mean you may opt to wear your paddle jacket on a warm, sunny day or our dry suits on a cool day. Surf landings are not likely, but you must be capable of paddling in a small swell or wind chop, with winds up to 20 knots. With that being said, we will not paddle if wind conditions are too strong and there is no sheltered area for paddling.
Tropical regions
In Costa Rica and Panama, April is the end of the dry season. The shoulder season begins in May, bringing increased humidity. Afternoon rain showers are possible in May with temperatures ranging from 26-36 °C (80- 96 °F). Winds are generally light at this time of year. The water temperature ranges from 27 -29 °C. Surf landings are not likely, but be prepared to paddle in a small swell or wind chop, with winds up to 15 knots. Again, we will not paddle if wind conditions are too strong and there is no sheltered area for paddling.
The Sea Kayaking activity is available for an additional surcharge and includes guided excursions and kayaking equipment. Fares for this activity start from US$900, AU$1,250, £460 or €550.
Prices are indicative only and are variable. They are calculated based on the days of voyage, ability to carry out the activity and exchange rates.

Have the time of your life exploring some of the wildest places on earth from the water.
Our guide to paddler ratio is 1:10 and we provide an accompanying safety Zodiac. There are 26 places available in Antarctica and tropical voyages, 20 in temperate regions, South Georgia and all Arctic trips except in Franz Josef Land where the maximum is 16 kayakers.
Kayakers must be 14 or over.
Sea kayaking is offered in place of regular shore excursions. We aim to paddle as often as possible. Depending on the voyage, we generally aim to paddle twice per day.
We will give you a drybag for extra clothing, binoculars and anything that needs to be kept dry. You should also carry a water bottle. We recommend bringing a waterproof camera or phone, or ensuring you have a good quality waterproof case.
If the weather changes during our outing we will head back to the ship and perhaps join a shore excursion. The ship’s captain, expedition leader and kayak guide always maintain close contact to ensure a safe paddling experience. We do not attempt to paddle too far away from the ship. The emphasis is on experiencing the destination rather than travelling long distances.
The kayaks are made with a hard plastic and are easily paddled in swell and conducting shore landings, and through small patches of brash ice. We manoeuvre around the larger ice chunks and floes.
Kayaking in the poles offers a unique wildlife viewing experience. In Antarctica, we have many opportunities to encounter penguins, seals and whales, and occasionally we may even spot leopard seals or orcas. In the Arctic, we’ll paddle under nesting bird colonies, past massive glaciers and around large icebergs, however we maintain a safe distance from polar bears and walruses. Our guides carry rifles and flare guns in the Arctic to ensure your safety against polar bears.
Kayakers in wild temperate regions will have a unique wildlife experience, with possible encounters with seals and basking sharks. You will have the opportunity to view some of the largest sea bird colonies in the northern hemisphere.
The superb wildlife-viewing opportunities are endless in the astonishingly biodiverse nature reserves we visit. Kayaks offer a unique opportunity to view marine and land mammals, coral reefs, tropical fish, sea birds and an astonishing range of rainforest birds. We will bring our snorkelling gear with us during our paddles and take advantage of any opportunities to view marine life up close.
In the unlikely event of a capsize, your experienced guide will assist by righting the kayak, stabilising it then pumping it out. Paddlers will re-enter with the guide’s help, or with a support Zodiac. With drysuits and warm clothing underneath you will be comfortable in cold water for up to half an hour. Note that the kayaks have separate compartments with bulkheads, which means they will float after a capsize.
No. Each kayaking place is for one person only. Passengers are unable to share a kayaking place as we customise the kayaks and dry suits for each individual kayaker at the beginning of each voyage.

Best 7-Hour Private Tour of the Golden Circle from Reykjavik
Description
Set on a magical private adventure around Iceland’s most popular and beloved sightseeing route, the Golden Circle. Those who want to witness a microcosm of the land of ice and fire without worrying about other tourists should book their trip while availability lasts.
This half-day excursion begins when a local guide exclusively picks your group up from a point by your accommodation in Reykjavik. Without having to collect anyone else, they will escort you into the beautiful countryside and lava landscapes of southeast Iceland. As you travel, they will be happy to answer any of your questions about the country and folklore. They will also point out the significant sites you will pass.
Your first major stop is Thingvellir National Park, located between two tectonic plates that rise sharply from the early. The broad valley in between has countless springs, beautiful forests, and moss-coated basalt fields, making it magical to explore. The cherry on top of this attraction is the millennium of history here, which you can learn about on-site.
The second site of the Golden Circle is the Geysir Geothermal Area, most famous for the geyser of Strokkur. This phenomenon is one of the most regularly erupting features of its kind in the world, ejecting a breathtaking column of boiling water and steam into the sky every five minutes or so. Strokkur is surrounded by other hot springs, one of which is currently inactive Great Geysir, which gave its name to similar phenomena worldwide.
Finally, you will come to the powerful glacial waterfall of Gullfoss. Translating to ‘the Golden Waterfall’ and thus the namesake of the Golden Circle, this beautiful feature is powerful and inspiring. In winter, its surroundings become crusted in icicles and snow, while in summer, its flow is even stronger, and you may see rainbows in the blooming spray.
You can talk with your guide about your interests so that they can schedule this adventure in a way that best suits your group. If you wish, you can minimize time at the three major attractions to include several more, such as a visit to the Kerid Crater Lake or Efstidalur dairy farm. You can also purchase lunch at either Gullfoss or Geysir if you so choose.
Once you have enjoyed the three sites of the Golden Circle, you’ll head back to Reykjavik in time for an evening activity or relaxing end of the day.
Don’t miss this fantastic day exploring the sites of Iceland’s most famous sightseeing route with a private guide. Check availability by choosing a date.

What our clients have to say
Amazing experience.
Rhea D, December 2022
Deluxe Iceland was an amazing experience. Planning our itinerary with Viktor was a breeze. We didn’t have to think about anything once we decided on our trip. Our guide, Unnar, was so fun and knowledgeable. He kept us safe, got us everywhere we wanted to go, and was very flexible if we wanted to stop and check something out. The first trip where I could truly relax and enjoy the experience! Thank you!!

Golden Circle Classic
Iceland is known for its beautiful, diverse nature and on this tour you can experience some of the highlights of it in just one day: Walk down a crevice formed by the tectonic plates, watch a geyser erupt, see one of Iceland’s most beloved waterfalls and photograph a crater lake. This is the most popular day tour in Iceland, but instead of a crowded bus full of strangers this tour is in a private car with a driver guide.
Itinerary for the Golden Circle Classic
A short drive from Reykjavik is Nesjavellir and Hengill volcano where you visit a geothermal power plant, and learn about how it provides Reykjavik with hot water and electricity without polluting.
Next stop is Thingvellir national park, where the Icelandic parliament was founded in 930 AD. This is where the Eurasian and North-American tectonic plates meet, having formed a crevice while slowly drifting apart.
After crossing Lyngdalsheidi you get to Gullfoss waterfalls. The name translates to “Golden Waterfall”, and the “gold” is the rainbow that forms on sunny days over the waterfall as it cascades down the Hvita River in two steps.
After enjoying lunch you head to Geysir hot spring area. There you find Geysir, from where the English word “geyser” gets its meaning, and the geyser Strokkur which spouts boiling water 25-30 meters into the air every 5-10 minutes.
On the way back to Reykjavik you have the option to stop at Kerid Crater Lake (Entry fee not included). Because of minerals in the water it’s an opaque and aquamarine color. Once back in Reykjavik your driver guide will drop you off at your hotel or a restaurant of your choice.

What they say about this tour
Hi, we just wanted to say thank you for making our trip so special this weekend. We used your airport shuttle service and had a private golden circle tour with Siggi on Saturday and it was super. Highly recommend your company to anyone travelling to Reykjavík. Thanks for the memories, Sheelagh, Edel, Derv, Hazel & Barbara.
We were promptly met by our guide, Vidir Kristjansson, at the cruise terminal. The stunning scenery is non-stop. Vidir was knowledgable and quite eager to share his country with us. Walking through the towering cliffs of Thingvellir National Park was awesome. Having never seen a geyser before, Geysir Hot Springs put on quite a demonstration. And, the blue hue of Little Geysir was captivating. The major attraction of our trip was the magnificent Gullfoss, and it did not disappoint. I can understand why people risk their life to get the perfect picture. Our tour continued to Faxi waterfall and the geothermal overs at Laugavata Fontana. Our visit to the geothermal ovens coincided with a loaf of baked bread being dug up from it's steamy oven. We had a fabulous day with Vidir. One of our traveling companions was suffering from a nasty cold. Vidir took the time to make sure she was comfortable throughout the day and allowed her to stay in the van when she didn't feel well enough to walk from the parking lots.
Very pleased we planned our excursions through Snaeland Travel. Brynjar made the booking process simple and pleasant. Pick up from the airport to the Hilton Canopy Hotel with a two-hour Blue Lagoon stop was perfect and stress-free. Our full day private south shore and full day private Golden Circle tours were exceptional. Our tour guide Vidir was warm, knowledgeable and clearly enjoyed showing my family the highlights of Iceland. Highly recommend all around.
As we had a group of 12 and had private tours as part of our holiday package, we were taken round in a mini bus. Bjorn, our guide and driver, was always on time and couldn't be more informative/helpful - we couldn't believe the knowledge he had. The Golden Circle Tour packs much of what the area has to offer in to a day. The Reykjanes peninsula was also an interesting tour from a geographical perspective. The transfers we had with the company to and from the airport were hassle free also. All in all we had a great experience with the company and I would recommend the golden circle tour.
Skip the large buses and book a private tour. It was about $600 us dollars and the tour lasted about 8-9 hours. Our guide was Christian who was just great! He was born and raised in Iceland so had a lot of great information to share. He took us to a dairy farm as well in addition to see the Icelandic horses. I would recommend this tour and ask for Christian!
Wow. 4 bookings all on time with good drivers for 6 of us, (family with adult children and their partners), arriving at different times and combining for a private and customised Golden Circle tour with a drop off to the Secret Lagoon. None of us would have driven the snow covered mountain roads and been able to see all that we packed in on the Saturday. Thor drove us around telling us stories about growing up in Iceland and local legends. He allocated enough time at each stop so that we arrived at the lagoon in time. The bookings included pick up from the airport on the Friday and returns on the Sunday and again on the Monday. Everything went like clockwork - well done to all and Carlos and his admin. The snow covered and stormy scenery is stunning and Thor said we must return mid summer to see the difference. On the cards with Snaeland in the future.
A private golden circle tour is ideal for families and small groups of friends who simply are looking to have a great time together. Skip the part where you need to wait for a pick up and switch buses and jump right into the adventure with your own English speaking driver and comfort vehicle.
The Golden Circle is the perfect trip for visitors who want to experience the power and beauty of Icelandic nature up close in person. Iceland´s most popular day tour combines some of Iceland´s main attractions into an 8 hour tour which is ideal if you only have on day or little time on your hands.
The tour takes about 8 hours and brings you to some of the most famous Icelandic landmarks in a single day. You will see Gullfoss waterfall, or golden waterfalls at the edge of the highlands where Hvitá glacial river plunges down 32 meters in two steps. Which is considered one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Iceland. The world famous Geysir , which gives geysers world wide their name. And the beautiful Thingvellir National Park where the tectonic plates of America and Eurasia meet.
If you wish for more information during your tour we recommend you book the option with guide. This option allows your group to be up to fourteen passengers and your guide will also be your driver. He will be able to provide stories and further information on and during your stops.
Interesting stops you can add since it is a private tour are:
- The crater Kerið
- The waterfall Faxi which is not as famous as Gullfoss but worth a visit. Please add the parking fee during the booking if you want to stop there.
- Your own driver and vehicle.
- Pick up and drop off in Reykjavik.
- Guidance if you pick the more expensive option.
Tips and Trivia

Highlights
The entire area is very active and you will see a lot of water right next to your path. For your own safety be careful since the water is usually boiling hot. While the old Geysir is inactive, Strokkur, which is also located in the Geysir hot spring area spouts every 5-10 minutes, with the water reaching about 15-20 meters from the ground. So have your camera ready when strokkur erupts. The old Geysir was apparently able to reach up to 170 meters, but research done in 1846 showed that it reached about 50 meters, which still is very impressive.
Þingvellir national park has a geological significance, since you can see the Eurasian and American plate meet here. For now this only allows us to walk between the continental plates by going down Almannagjá canyon. Once you have made your way down you can find Thingvellir church ( "Þingvallakirkjan") and the cemetery of Thingvellir. If you continue walking you get to Silfra rift . The rift is part of Thingvellir lake ( "Þingvallavatn") which is Iceland´s largest natural lake with a surface of 84 km² and it is up to 114 meters deep.
The Gullfoss waterfalls, or golden waterfalls at the edge of the highlands where Hvitá river plunges down 32 meters in two steps. At Gullfoss you find two parking lots on different levels. One up high which gives you a very good overview over the waterfall. Up there you also find the Gullfoss service area, with a restaurant and cafe where you can also purchase souvenirs. From there you have a few paths bringing you closer to the waterfall and also stairs to the lower plateau. At the lower parking lot you have a different view which is not less impressive. If you have time you should read the information boards.
