PARK INFORMATION

Since opening in 1997 the Mason Elephant Park has garnered a reputation around the world as the blueprint on how elephants should be cared for in captivity. Set in the misty hinterlands of Taro, this multi-award winning park is Bali’s only dedicated elephant rescue facility and is home to 31 endangered Sumatran elephants, 4 of which were born here. The park provides guests with the opportunity to interact and learn about these gentle giants while giving the elephants a comfortable and safe environment.

The Park is set in 3.5 hectares and has been carefully landscaped to mimic as much as possible the original environment of the elephants’ previous home in Sumatra. The location in central Bali was also chosen for its cooler climate and more tropical location. For those reasons the elephants are kept cool and comfortable in this lush tranquil landscape.

Our park follows the ‘5 Freedoms of Animal Welfare’ established in Great Britain in 1965. Freedom from hunger or thirst, freedom from discomfort, freedom from pain, injury or disease, freedom to express most normal behavior, and freedom from fear and distress. All elephants are under 24/7 veterinary care and are provided with the correct diet and vitamins daily.

We do not use brutal or cruel training methods, as all training is by repetition, reward and patience. Elephant rides are on specially-designed light teak wood seats that are heavily padded to cause no discomfort or injury to the elephant’s back. Riding an elephant actually helps by providing necessary exercise for its muscles, bone density, foot health and general wellbeing. In addition to our own regulations we actively support other like-minded global charities.

In our 20 years of operation, the Mason Elephant Park had been recognised by the international community and numerous animal welfare organisations such as the National Geographic Society as a Welfare Supporter and the World Wildlife Foundation as a Partner in Conservation.

Our daytime elephant safari excursions follow one route, but our evening rides on a specially created night track offer a distinct adventure, creating a magical encounter like no other.

Within the still on the misty woodland of Taro in nightfall, the elephants get you on Bali’s just twilighting elephant journey. When starting in 1997 the our Elephant Park offers garnered a brand all over the world since the blueprint on what elephants needs to be taken care of in captivity. Placed in the misty hinter lands village of Taro, this kind of multi-award successful park is Bali’s just specialist elephant recovery center and it is the place to find 31 endangered elephants, 4 that were born in our place. Displays of elephant intelligence and their capabilities can be viewed at the Park Arena and elephants can also be seen painting at selected times daily. Safari under the stars

Paid for the Safari Under the Stars package through my agent and it was such a great experience with the elephants. Our park guide, John spoke excellent English and brought us around for a tour in the elephant park. During our visit, we saw a 3 month old baby elephant and we were told they have 31 elephants in total. We get to feed, touch and see the elephants up close and watched them bathe as well :) The show and ride was good. Our package included dinner in their restaurant, it was a buffet style and I simply enjoyed my dinner. Didn't regret going for this cos I've never been so upclose with elephants before! More

We stayed here for 1 night and were so pleased we did! We had a room over looking the rice paddy fields and felt this was actually a nicer spot than some of the more expensive rooms! The experience with the elephants is amazing, washing them and going for a swim with them! Had a great meal in the park restaurant the evening we arrived and the staff were so friendly. There is always some debate about elephants in captivity but they seem quite happy and there is a lot of rotation so they are not stuck tied in one place all day. We were lucky enough to spend some time with a baby elephant which was incredible! Add this to your list!

It has been a great experience to visit the park and be able to ride, feed,touch and watch the elephants. The place looks good and the elephants seem to enjoy themselves most of the time. But I think that the chains - if there is no other way - should give them more space to move around.

My sister and I stayed at this amazing place in May 2013 for one night, it wasn't long enough, we had a hard time saying goodbye to the staff as they were the most beautiful people you could ever meet. You could see how much they loved their jobs and working with the elephants. The park is very special, you feel you are in another world. The experience with the elephants was fantastic, bathing, feeding, riding, cuddling these incredible creatures will be an experience never forgotten. Our room was beautiful and a great view of the park/gardens. The restaurants, gift shops are reasonably priced. We went crazy in the gift shop, it was so much fun, you will not leave empty handed. We could rave about this place non stop, we recommend everyone to visit this magical park. To all the staff, thank you so much and we hope to see you all again very soon. Also, Nigel Mason, thank you for rescuing these amazing animals that walk our planet, you are a very special man.

My girlfriend and I absolutely loved this place! Great value for money, beautiful area and the staff were full of smiles and laughs! They also have the best Aussie accents ever, very funny! Highly recommend going to see these gentle giants and their lovely carers. 10/10 made my lovely girlfriends trip :)

Our family of 5 visited this beautiful park while holidaying in Bali. What a wonderful experience. We loved everything about the day. The elephant ride was great. We especially loved the up close and personal time with the elephants, feeding the baby elephants was the highlight. The lunch buffet was excellent. In 2000, the Ministry of Tourism officially opened the Mason Elephant Park (formerly Elephant Safari Park) after three years of development. Official member of the WZA (World Zoo Association), the park meets international standards for the care of animals and is surrounded by the national forest in more than 4 hectares of exotic eco-tourism landscaped botanical gardens.

The class 2 & 3 rapids include encounters on vortexes of swirling and funneled waters, natural ramps and sudden drops in elevation and adrenaline pumping action which can be safely experienced by anyone from 5-65 years of age.
