Our outfitter was Kaleb. We had a really great time during our 6 hour kayaking expedition! It really took us out physically, more than we expected but we were stoked for the challenge.

Ben took us out today pre season on a multi-generational family tour with young children. He was extremely professional and ensured our safety while also maximizing our experience! No Orcas today but we did see King Fishers, Black Cranes and seal pups!! It was a great adventure and was better than we anticipated- he even made sure there was no rain!!! Don't hesitate to book with Sea-Queat.

While we didn't spot any whales, our guide Caleb made this trip an incredible experience! He was friendly, funny, and patiently answered all our many questions with his vast knowledge of the local marine life and surrounding ecosystem. Would highly recommend to anyone looking to explore the San Juan Islands; we'll be back for an overnight trip next year

We booked a 6 hour day trip with this outfit in advance, just going off reviews online. After setting up an account, all the details about what to wear, items to bring, and what you needed to have a successful trip was all included on the website. Make sure you sign your release ahead of time (also on the website). The day of the trip, we met our Sea Quest guides (Matt, Reagan, and Ben) near the roundabout at the harbor end of downtown. After some brief introductions, we loaded up and headed out to our kayaking destination. Arriving at the launch spot, we spent about an hour unloading, going over the gear, the boats and their basic operations. We split into 2 groups and eagerly left land with Matt and Reagan. We utilized tandem kayaks with 6 in our group plus the 2 guides. Ben guided the other group. We paddled out around the southern end of San Juan Island observing lots of local wildlife. Several jellyfish, a couple of bald eagles, puffins, and harbor seals were spotted along the trip. We spent about an hour on a small island south of Friday Harbor for lunch before heading back. Unfortunately we missed out on the orca whales on this excursion, but Matt and Reagan still made the excursion loads of fun. It certainly makes a difference when the guides enjoy what they do and their passion shows on the tours. We hope to cross paths with Matt and Reagan again.

Greg and Caleb did a great job leading our group. They provided a lot of interesting facts about the area, wildlife and sea life. Very informative and fun

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review, Dana! We're grateful to have you and your family on our afternoon kayak tour. Hope to see you guys for the next kayaking adventure!

We had a group of four that was fortunate enough to go out on the bioluminescence tour with a new moon and a meteor shower. The bioluminescence was absolutely beautiful and the tour was awesome! our guide Gabriel was so easy to talk to, helped us when we needed it and let us have fun and paddle around when we wanted. All four of us were experienced paddlers and it was so fun to go out with a guide like Gabriel. It was like paddling with a friend! Thank you to Sea Quest for this awesome experience!

Aug 24, 2023

We're thrilled you had an amazing time on your bioluminescence kayak tour with our guide! Thank you, Ashley, for your review. Looking forward to sharing more kayak adventures with you in the future!

Do not use this kayak rental/tour. Owner, Ben, is an unscrupulous business owner. The business owner doesn't disclose the physical demands of requiring his customers to carry his kayaks, which weigh as much as 100 pounds, over hazardous terrain to and from the launch site. Our group's tour guide did not show any haste to get our group launched. She took 2 1/2 - 3 hours to get our group launched for a 6 hour kayak. Four other kayak groups arrived after us and launched before us. Our guide showed no sense of urgency and wasted our time and money as she sauntered between the launch Location, her trailer and the bathroom several times. We had another kayak tour scheduled for a bio-Lum tour two nights After our first miserable tour. We called on the phone to inquire if we would be asked to lift the 100 pound triple kayak again (this time in the dark) and were advised "I will need some help." Then, we were advised that the triple kayak we reserved was broken and our 5 year old would have to ride with crew. I wasn't asked but told that was what was happening. The owner, Ben, then proceeded to inquire about the nature and scope of my son's perceived disabilities- violating every ADA law out there. Ben stated to me that he felt this line of questioning was fine because I described my Son as highly sensitive as a reason that putting him in a kayak with a stranger for three hours was not a good idea. Ben wanted to know about my son's symptoms on the autistic spectrum - which my son is not on. Ben never did acknowledge a problem with his actions and comments. A business cannot ask about a person's actual or perceived disabilities. Period. We cancelled our 2nd tour due to Sea Quest not having the triple kayak we reserves available, violating ADA law on my 5 yr old son, making arrangements for my son to kayak with a stranger and demanding we possess the physical prowess to move their 100 pound kayaks in the dark. Ben has had the nerve to continue to charge my card for the complete cost of the second tour that they could not fulfill what we booked. We have had numerous emails with Ben where he has defended his business practices and line of questioning on my son that violated ADA law. Do NOT book with this company. If they are the last option open on the island, skip kayaking, and go sailing instead or do anything else. Walk the streets of Friday Harbor. They're amazing. Note: this guides on the Discovery Kayak tours were hauling ass and getting after it. I would book with them. They got people launched in the water within 30 mins on each tour that arrived during the almost three hours Sea Quest took to launch our group. Try Discovery. They looked amazing.

Hello Cassie, Thanks for your review. Apologies for the late response I have been busy in the field serving other customers. I make mention of a previous review by Sarah S. on 8/18/2022. Unfortunately, I hit the word limit for yelp so I could not paste it below. 1. Disclosure of physical demands – Our liability waiver which you signed clearly states in our “Acknowledgement of risk” section that kayak tours are demanding and may include difficult terrain or walking conditions as well as injury or strain due to physical exertion. 2. Guides sense of Urgency – Your comments in no way reflect reality. After speaking with the guide your comments are hyperbolic. The specific nuances of the situation can be properly understood in my response Sarah. S’s negative review on 8/18/2022. 3. Triple Kayak Availability – Also explain in the previous response – See below. 4. ADA Law Violation – I am not aware of any law which prohibits inquiring if clients are capable of kayaking safely. I apologize again if my line of questioning seemed invasive; however, I was simply trying to accommodate your family. See further detailed response below 5. Retention of trip funds – Our cancellation policy is such that we cannot offer refunds for last minute cancellations. Despite my best efforts to communicate with you regarding accommodations, you were unwilling to accept my suitable offer to take your family out on the water for a bioluminescence trip. We are a small family operation with very limited guide availability and when we book people, and they cancel on us last minute that means that they are dropping a seat which we could have sold to another guest. As such last-minute cancellation funds are retained in full. You agreed to this cancellation policy under the “Terms and Conditions” section during the checkout process. I also ran you card many days before your tour and not after the tour as you falsely claimed. There may have been a lag attributed to merchant processing. But the credit card was run on 8/15 and the tour was on 8/19. 6. Speed of getting guests on the water – While some people might prefer to get whisked away into a kayak with little to no training, others prefer to be properly taught how to paddle before launching the kayaks to avoid possible accidents or capsizing on the water – ESPECIALLY IN THE DARK. While it may seem like great customer service for the orientation last 30 minutes it is important to bear in mind the corners that some other outfitters cut during their safety orientations. Sea Quest has always been the leader in safety on the Salish Sea and our orientations are on average 30% longer than other outfitters. This time is well spent and leads to a safer and more enjoyable experience for our customers. Thanks, Ben Henkel – Owner

Friends and I traveled on a 3 day San Juan excision with Sea Quest last month. While I'm one of the few in my group who would do the trip again, I cannot recommend this outfitter. To their credit the guides fulfilled the most important part of their job, which is getting all passengers there and back again. However two of us were left on the island on the"layover" day through the guides' lack of clear communication regarding departure time. Clearly, being left behind was not what we had paid for. The San Juans are gorgeous and the opportunity to experience the area in such an up-close way is incomparable. That said, I would strongly encourage anyone considering the trip to also have conversations with the various operators regarding layover day expectations. My experience communicating the "left behind" issue with Sea Quest has been consistent with comments you find from others online regarding post-trip feedback. They took nearly a month to follow up with me then foisted the problems off on the guides. While the guides are the front face of an org, management is responsible for training and integrity in service delivery.

Hello Jeannine, We are so sorry to hear about your experience. Our company is under new ownership and we work closely with the guides and will ensure this never happens again on one of our kayak tours!

We took our family of five out for a sunset kayak trip and had a wonderful time. Even our 5 year old daughter was able to enjoy herself! Kids especially loved seeing the seals! Ben was a terrific guide and we will definitely take this tour again!

SEA KAYAKING ALASKA

Alaska sea kayaking, whale watching kayak trips & tours in alaska.

Join us for a vacation of a lifetime: sea kayaking in Alaska among the icebergs and whales. Sea kayaking Alaska ranks among the world’s best wilderness and wildlife adventures. Alaska is vast, rugged, and possesses astounding beauty. Alaska is truly one of the last great wild places left on our planet.

When deciding on our Alaska kayak tour routes, we looked for outstanding natural features, such as tidewater glaciers, remote wilderness islands, and stunning mountain views. After long and careful research, we decided upon these superb Alaska kayaking trip itineraries . We believe that they represent the absolute best Alaska kayak trips available!

sea quest kayak tours reviews

“Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful. I’ve recommended Sea Quest’s Alaska kayak tours to everyone. I was very impressed with how well organized the trip was. I learned a lot and had a great time doing it. Both guides were loads of fun – which made the trip! They made it look effortless but I know they were always working.” Jill Aikman, Seattle, WA

Sea Kayaking Alaska & Whale Watching Tours

Our Alaska kayaking tour routes were chosen for their superior whale watching success. Humpback whales converge by the hundreds in Frederick Sound during summer months and one of our Alaska kayak tours makes camp on its isolated shore. Orca whales also occur in large numbers in southeast Alaska. The humpback whale and killer whale are the most acrobatic and socially complicated species in the world. Our Alaska whale watching trips have been very successful over the years.

sea quest kayak tours reviews

All of our Alaska kayaking trips give you the opportunity to see abundant marine wildlife at close range. Other marine mammals we consistently see while kayaking in Alaska include, Dall’s porpoises, harbor porpoises, harbor seals, and threatened Steller’s sea lions. Sea otters gather at favorite kelp forests on one the kayak routes, and gaze endearingly at passing paddlers. Overhead, bald eagles perch on nearly every prominence as they patiently await migrating salmon. Many other marine birds gather to nest in noisy rookeries.

Going ashore, you will see tide pools teeming with fascinating creatures, and watch as they appear and disappear in the wake of enormous fourteen foot tides. Any stream will be chock full of salmon and char and if you arrive during a spawning run you will witness one of nature’s most amazing spectacles.

Upland explorations will reveal numerous game trails, and maybe even the tracks of bears and wolves. Within the ancient Tongass rainforest all sounds seem to be swallowed by the dense foliage and hanging mosses – its as if you’ve entered a towering emerald cathedral. Here survives the largest temperate rainforest in the world.

Our Alaska kayak tours are staffed by experienced guides and naturalists. We limit group size to ten participants, thereby ensuring an intimate trip and a close-up view of Alaska’s wonders. Hopefully, we can be a part of your Alaska adventure vacation plans. Please call if you have any questions.
